Tbh whatever Viktor is talking about doesn't even have anything to do with evolution. It's not even that he misunderstands evolution, he made up his own thing which is more related to transhumanism and calls that evolution.

Not only does evolution not have a destination, evolution also does not change living organisms, it's much slower than that. So when Viktor is healing people or changing into robots, that has literally nothing to do with evolution. Evolution would be if humans over a long time and many generations turned into his weird robot things because that's the best suited life form for the circumstances (nature's greatest force, forever in flux as Singed says, though I also find his statement a bit weird). Instead, Viktor decided that for humans not to suffer, they must be changed, and calls that glorious evolution, I think largely because that's his game catchphrase. Perhaps because it sounds cooler than glorious transhumanism? Glorious body modifications? Idk.

Perhaps he just calls it glorious evolution because he thought it sounded cool. It might also even be that he wasn't familiar with evolution theory at all (idk about the religious background but he is also making some more religious statements on how he believes in fate, and later he believes the glorious evolution is destined), and only singed knows about normal evolution since it's closer to his field. And then Viktor would use evolution as a much looser term for change, since linguistically evolution can be used in different contexts?

I'm not sure if he truly doesn't understand how evolution theory works (and considering Singed brings it up first, I do presume evolution theory exists in this world), or if he thinks, well, my way is better, but he really needs someone to talk sense into him because his ideas get progressively weirder over the season and letting him have such insane power with only people who worship him and a hexcore to talk to who validates all his weirdest ideas was a bad idea. Some humanities classes would also have helped, because while he understands what human suffering is like largely because of his own experiences, he doesn't understand people at all, and probably assumes what he wanted is what everyone else wants and also what they (and he) need (wrong on both counts).

Interestingly, when Viktor first brings up glorious evolution, he is still unwilling to go through with it (assuming it refers to using Vander to evolve himself, though I do think he also considered the healing he did for his followers glorious evolution), so I think he already had some of these ideas before he even died. Something that had absolutely nothing to do with evolution, but more with his own internalized ableism and believing he needed to fix himself to end his suffering/be worthy of love. He did want it at that point, he just wasn't willing to sacrifice someone else for it. He also only gave up on his hexcore research because it killed Sky. He cared it killed someone. He didn't care it turned his leg weird and purple and was willing to turn his entire body into that if it meant he was cured. (and I believe when he did sacrifice Vander, there was also no possibility of saving him anymore)

Anyway this got long but the conclusion is Viktor has no clue what he's talking about, I don't think he even knows what evolution is, and his entire ideology is shaped from his own internalized ableism and lack of understanding of humanity, and he slapped a cool catchphrase on top without knowing it actually means something else.

nothing viktor did was more peak engineer behavior than when he so confidently explained evolution wrong except for him confidently explaining evolution wrong while disagreeing with the guy who explained it correctly

So I finally started playing the Great Ace Attorney game and I love it so far. Ryunosuke's adorable, KAZUMA is something else. (Those gazes!! Hot damn) I'm genuinely upset I haven't seen more fanart of him on my dash, because holy shit. I've seen so much fanart for the Sherlock Holmes guy-- sorry, Herlock Sholmes (?? I haven't run into him in-game yet. Still dueling Swan Lady Ms Brett), but I can't remember ever seeing any Kazuma art. Outrageous.

how have i seen no one talk about how good episode 4 of stardust rhapsody is like. come on. something about mace’s ability to so clearly describe disorientation is CRAZY. all of these characters each having the same but different experiences but in the end leaning on each other for support. not only that but dandy’s fear at not just the unknown but the forgottenness, the way rexx reacts when he’s about to get caught by rett’s gun, literally Everything about that episode ruled. it also ruled that mace made them roll at a disadvantage for like the ENTIRE FUCKING SESSION

I like, have almost a bit of a pit in my stomach now, thinking about how I may have accidentally, yet again, stumbled into a Dorian-and-Bull situation (I won't even say the ship name, don't want to summon the Disk Horse again), where I'm a big fan of one of the two characters Bioware has decided to play "pair the spares" with, and I just...

I really don't want to be in that sort of a fandom space again.

like I can see how it would make sense, because sad as it is, yeah, if I just think for a second I can see how they might already anticipate the Black man and the tall, muscular woman to be among the overall less popular love interests. (Fandoms are racist and misogynistic. We know that, we get that.) I get how they might want to push the ones likely to be more popular with the audience as individual characters (Neve, Lucanis, Harding), but might want to do something else for these other characters preemptively, if only to make sure they get at least some sort of engagement and acknowledgement from the most vocal fan creators and fandom participants (who are far more likely to romance either Lucanis or Emmrich, let's be so fucking real about that).

but I just.... I really do not want to be once more in a situation where the people who superficially like the pairing so vastly outnumber the fans of each individual character that it becomes borderline impossible to even just search the name of one, without running into the ship. where even the official merch starts treating the two of them as a package deal, with the full 100+ hour player romance and the conditional NPC romance with three lines to its name being treated on the same level of relevance. (I don't think I'm going to forget that one official illustration of Dorian holding both his birthright from his own romance path, and the necklace of kadan from Bull's. Which is silly that it's still there in my head however many years later, but I'm just a person too, I'm allowed some irrational feelings lol.)

I have hope both that I'm wrong and making a mountain out of a molehill, and that since it'd be an MF pairing it wouldn't go that far (we know how fandoms at large feel about women, and about how ready some are to objectify MM pairings.....),, but I can already see so many avenues for it to absolutely suck being a fan of one or both of them, and not them as a ship.

(People erasing their canon sexualities and calling them both straight because of it. People who are fans of only one being hateful towards the other, because in some settings they can shag their blorbo. People getting upset because their romance dialogue bugs out and triggers even if their character is already dating one of them-- don't pretend that that has never happened. People openly saying shit like how they can't romance one because they hate the idea of keeping them away from the other. etc.) (all of these are things I've personally seen happen with Dorian and Bull.) (and I haven't even gotten started on the "she's a lesbian >:(" crowd that I'm sure would pop up, and be totally normal and not also startlingly racist on top of their biphobia.)

I'm hoping so dearly that I'm wrong, I'm hoping that there is a perfectly fine, unrelated explanation as to why there is a Warden shield on her wall, but I'm just...

Saw two posts recently and I disagreed with them for the same reason and that is, y’all better not be falling into the pit of dissing things bc they’re not “sophisticated” enough for you or something.

Like someone complaining about cutesy wutesy terms or like stupid fanfic writing. Some people be saying stuff like ‘no! You have to like real books! Only use real words to describe yourself!’ Who are you? The cringe police?

Actually the colloquialisation of language is kinda a complicated topic. Yeah we shouldn’t dumb down words and stuff when it comes to discussing serious things and we shouldn’t be calling anyone else things that they don’t want to be called. But if someone is using casual language to refer to themselves and they’re someone who can ‘reclaim’ (for lack of a better term) that language, then I don’t think it’s hurting anyone. Sometimes we need to use serious language and sometimes we don’t.

And let’s not make fun of hashtag weird fanfic or fandom (as long as it doesn’t actually promote harmful views or cause harm).

There’s obviously exceptions to both these points but my general rule is, let’s not attack things for the sake of ‘it’s weird’ or ‘different’. Being judgemental and shaming people to conform to arbitrary standards is the talking point of literally every single hate crimer. That mindset is used by ableists, racists, sexists, queerphobes etc etc. Lets not forget that.
