Is Blank supposed to be a sequel to GAP? Some people were saying that it is but it's not from IDOL?? Figured you'd know.

Absolutely NOT a Sequel. Do not watch this show thinking it has anything to do with Idol Factory's GAP!

I think where the confusion comes from is that the novels are a shared universe. Blank (the novel) follows Sam's older sister Nueng (the story is very controversial, at best...you can do your own research on it). The two series are completely unrelated: two different production companies, different cast, different screenwriters, different everything.

GAP being so successful as the first full length Thai GL turned out to be kind of a double edged sword. The author of the novel (who I refuse to mention by name) has written several other GL novels that are not exactly seen as positive representation amongst the Thai queer community. There have been other incidents in which they have been deemed problematic...again, you can do your own research, I'm not in the proper headspace to get into any of that. Just know that I, personally, am not a fan. With the success of GAP, though, several of their other novels have been optioned into series by other production companies. Including Blank (9Star), Dream (IDOL), and Pluto, the latter of which is being produced by QL media giant GMMtv. I'll be the first to admit that GAP is far from perfect, but what it did right was listen to feedback and took care in telling MonSam's story (from the screenwriting to the directing). Because of that, it eliminated a lot (not all) of the problems that existed from the source material. I just hope these other production companies, especially GMM, can do the same...if not better!

(though I'm not holding out any hope for Blank...the source story's a mess so I have no intention of watching the series)

The playlist is gonna end up being pretty long so let me pull out a few I'm particularly excited about right now, one per chapter

CH1: Haunted House - Sir Babygirl. To me, this song is for Kaede's doubts after they find Rantaro's body. She's scared because Rantaro wasn't the mastermind, she's fucked up really bad, but she still has to keep going despite this

CH2: Leopard - Jack Stauber. This is one of the oldest songs on my DR playlist in general. I feel like it represents Ryoma's murder really well, especially the part that goes "And the minds under the floor / Don't see the life as a chore / Though the bad is gone, and they're no longer sore / They can't feel the light anymore"

CH3: ¡Aikido! (Neurotic Erotic) - Will Wood. This one represents Tenko's feelings for Himiko, and while it's fairly upbeat there is a sense of melancholy to it I feel that fits with her desperation at the beginning of ch3. Plus the fact that it literally has Aikido in the title is just such a beautiful coincidence. This is THE Tenko song.

CH4: Snowcone - Rei Ami. Rather than talk about one of the 5+ Gonta songs I have in this section (GIVE ME A BREAK) Here's one for Miu. This song is the perfect transition from the beginning of the chapter into deadly life. The first half is the kind of confident music that absolutely fits Miu, but it ends with a self-deprecating sadder sequence that perfectly fits what Miu was going through this chapter.

CH5: Kiss me, Son of God - They Might be Giants. This one's for Kokichi's re-entrance at the beginning of Ch5. I have two songs like this for him this chapter, this kind of arrogant boasting but there's an undertone of his awareness that he's truly alone because of the things he's done. I like the kind of song for Kokichi that suits the front he puts on but you can just barely see between the cracks.

CH6: Paparazzi Murder Party - Vane Lily. This song's for the retrial of Rantaro's murder, and the revelation that it was Tsumugi who did it all along. I really like the imagery of this song, it fits well with the idea that Rantaro is kind of a celebrity already (since he was the survivor of a previous killing game). And the lyrics also fit well with the slow reveal that she was behind the killing game "'freak.' / 'You're such a freak.' / Well, sorry, but / I'm just being me"

Anti as the Pure Evil Villain Archetype

Ok guys before we start, the ground rules:

1. ANY AND ALL INTERPRETATIONS OF THE CHARACTER ARE VALID. This is just my thoughts/theories about canon Anti and the direction his character could go in. If you’re not a fan of that, that’s cool! I am not god, nor am I your mother, and my opinion only has the weight that you give it.

2. A lot of this was inspired and informed by Overly Sarcastic Production’s video on The Pure Evil Villain from their Trope Talk series. Go watch it, it’s great.

Cool? Cool.

ANYWAY-

Anti, right? We know next to nothing about his motivations, nor his backstory. What I’m arguing here is that, more or less, none of that matters.

The Pure Evil Villain is basically what it says on the tin. Throw out all of those corrupted paragons and complicated sad bois, pure evil villains are in it for the love of the game. Think basically any Disney villain, I’m gonna be using Bill Cipher as an example here. What is his backstory? Who knows! Why is he doing what he’s doing? Because it’s fun and because he can. He says it’s because his dimension is dying, but that’s barely an excuse and he knows it. Bill does what he does because he craves power and control over others. Sound familiar?

Back to this guy:

What we know for sure is that he craves two things: control and attention. Those are his ultimate goals. EVERYTHING he does is to accomplish one (or usually both) of those things. More or less all he’s done in the six or so years we’ve known him is take over people’s bodies and parade them in front of us, the audience. I argue that he pulled us out of the camera in Anomaly Found for the same purpose: to watch. He HAS to have an audience to adore and fear him.

Pure evil villains are defined by their very simple goals and motivations. Anti isn’t doing this for some ulterior motive, he’s doing this because it’s fun, because he’s a power hungry egomaniac. A lot of people seem to think that having a villain with simple goals and motivations is bad writing, but done well, it really isn’t! Tell me you aren’t entertained watching a Disney villain own the space, singing about how evil they are while cackling maniacally. These guys are FUN! They are pure charisma, pure confidence, and because of their very single minded goals, they are very dangerous.

These guys aren’t gonna have a change of heart. There is no redemption here. If the protagonists don’t get this villain out of the way, they’re fucked. However, due to their simple motivations/goals/worldview, the pure evil villain is rigid, meaning they’re liable to shatter like glass once their status quo is disrupted. Thus triggers the glorious

THIRD ACT BREAKDOWN!

Once that status quo is disrupted, all bets are off, and pure evil villain in question usually completely shatters. I think that Anti’s third act breakdown will come when someone, anyone, finally breaks through his control. So far, that hasn’t happened. Every single person he has possessed has lost that fight. As far as Anti is concerned, he is God. Thus, his breakdown would come when someone finally beats him, proves to him that he can lose.

I think Anti only has one fear: being puppeted like he does to everyone else. Being on the other end of those strings, entirely helpless, with no control over the situation. What happens when Anti truly and completely loses? For some villains, this is the end. For others, they pull themselves out of the ashes even worse and more dangerous than they were before. Which way will Anti swing here?

Art dump of some old Databrawl OCs from a computer I was working on with an ex-friend (the computer was intended to be explored through an RPGMaker game, he owned RPGMaker while I didn't) below, I still like some of these designs and I want to rework the others into something cooler (and more importantly rename the computer to something else to distance myself from him) There's also some ranting after the images, so keep in mind that

(click the weirdly cropped images in order to view them, idk why Tumblr did that) Mentioning the game thing he barely even worked on it and he completely forgot about it, I lied to him about having forgotten about it too the one time I brought it up to him since I didn't want to be harsh on him and I still feel salty about that since I'm the one who bought him RPGMaker since he had game developer knowledge from Roblox (I have never made a game before so I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do anything if I was the one with the engine)

The plot for the game I mostly forgot, but I remember that Stargazer was trying to take over the computer via controlling others, that Pluto and Eris were siblings (one of them would get controlled by Stargazer and have to get killed by the other, I forgot who), one of the spywares was the weapons shopkeeper while the other one would be hostile at first but join the party later on to help defeat Stargazer (this would've been post-death of one of the siblings), and that the story was linear with the only ending being that of defeating Stargazer. The story was super messy and disorganized from what I recall, I wanted help from the ex-friend in writing it and planning stuff out but he never really bothered

This would've been my 2nd time making an outline of a story planned to be a game (the other time would've been for a project that I don't want to name as I'd rather it be a Yume Nikki styled game now) which explains as to why it was so messy, paired with not getting any help making it so that even if my ex-friend had been working on the game rather than ditching it for his other projects I get the impression that it wouldn't have really been that good of a game

Oh yeah did I mention that said ex-friend was a big bitch when I was excited over things like wanting to write dialog or a non-outline version of the story since he was like "what if the game doesn't work out, you shouldn't move so fast" so I feel like the project in general was doomed thanks to him

But yeah since I've rambled this much you can have some old art of one of my Databrawl OCs that isn't from that computer

He's still alive and around, just VERY traumatized thanks to lore™️ and various actions he's made

This is super skewed because I orphaned a tooooon of my more popular stuff but Nuclear Option, two other vrai fics, Lent (<- should be number 1 if we're being honest and true) and a fruits basket thing that i should have probably also orphaned. the overwhelming urge to orphan things to skew the data further. you have to hold me back

4. do you respond to comments?

yes but not in a timely fashion (last round took me. over a year before i replied to anything. pensive.

5. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I dunno about actually angsty.... the fic that makes me cry every time is butterfly bridge; I wrote it after having to put a pet to sleep. if I ever got around to writing more "portal to the metro" the ending would probably also rank up there. due to. the tragedies.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

proooooobably Lent? idk I feel like I get a lot of "fuck yeah that ending ohhh the catharsis" type reactions on Lent.

7. do you get hate on fics?

I have a number of times. sometimes anon but sometimes people put their names to it?

not often... usually a crossover is a pretend thing just for me in my Imagination. however. portal to the metro... it was a roleplay between myself and a friend. and then i started writing it in earnest. and then i got tired. then i started writing primarily gw2 stuff. you understand. but someday I'll return to it. and then they'll all be sorry.

10. have you ever had a fic stolen?

um. kind of. when I was 17-18 I plotted out a fic I was working on and shared it with a couple of dear close friends. and then like a couple weeks later a massively popular person in the fandom in question posted my fic: their version. down to every little detail. 🙈 never found out which of my friends shared the planning with them.

11. have you ever co-written a fic before?

yeah, Pluto's Moon -- started 8 years ago, finished almost a year later... I wouldn't bother rereading it at this point but. it was a fun experience. we had fun. I also cowrote several chapters of a Reborn crossover fic with my long distance mmo friend when I was a freshman in high school. I don't think we ever got anywhere with it let alone posted it to FFN or anything-- I was handwriting short chapters between classes lol. I might still have those pages somewhere...

and then I think I would also consider portal to the metro a co-write in many ways. because it came from both of us :)

well. I think Canach/Alba has been too prominent for too long for me not to say it. canon/oc numero uno!!!!!!

also filling in the stuff AROUND dialogue. so often i'll be editing a fic and just (sighs) dama (me) you (i) can't just have 8 lines in a row of dialogue. what are these people doing in between talking. and then dama (me) is like alright wise guy why don't you take a crack at it if you're so smart. and i do. but in the moment of writing i'm not super good at figuring out the in betweeeeeeens.

also I feel like ending scenes and such is really hard. also getting characters from point a to point b (locations) without doing a timeskip to "well here we are at point b!"

I had someone ask to do so with one of my metro fics, to repost on a Russian fanfic site; I wasn't particularly attached to the fic so I told them go ahead. but also I have no idea if it ever happened. heart hands. so maybe. there may have been another but I don't rember.

Nico's proximity to godhood is what kept him going for years#and yet every time we see heroes praised for their deeds in pjo they are praised in proximity to their mortality#i was talking about this before and this is the first book where we sort of see Nico switch in that regard?#idk I've always thought it was interesting (tags via @the-ghost-king)

It is absolutely fascinating to me that Nico is only alive at the start of the series because of divine intervention. It's a very unique situation; Nico should by all logic be dead, both because he's from the '30s and because Zeus tried to directly blast him with lightning, but he's still alive because his father wouldn't let him die. Not to mention Hades seems to have taken an unusual amount of interest in the di Angelo kids from the start, what with how he seems to have if not actively lived with them then at least visited semi-regularly and wanted them and Maria to come live with him for their protection. The gods don't tend to show that much direct interest in their offspring! Pluto tells Marie that if she moves to Alaska he can't protect her and Hazel, but unless I've forgotten something there's no mention of her moving to the Underworld. Even Poseidon, who offered Sally a palace, only came to see Percy once when he was a baby and otherwise never said a word to him until he needed him, and even then not until Percy's solved all his problems for him. And of course Nico gets to live in the Underworld when he has nowhere else to go; as far as I remember the option of living in their godly parent's domain is never even raised with any other demigod, except for Gaea suggesting Percy run away from the war against her and hide out in the ocean at the start of SoN. Nico still considers the Underworld his home! That's a lot for a mortal demigod! He's the only character we meet who has multiple gods he can just ask for help casually; demigods can sometimes ask their godly parent for help and sometimes that godly parent will answer, but Nico basically has his dad on speed dial and it is absolutely wild before we even get into the number of gods who have without hesitation gone "Oh, you need some help, yeah, no problem, you just sit tight and let me solve your problems for you", especially in TSatS, despite the gods claiming that they can't just step in and solve their kids' problems for them. And of course TSatS ends with a Titan basically promising to fight for Nico for the rest of his life, which to be clear is Bob saying he will fight for this mortal demigod for the rest of his immortal life. Nico is clearly a special case and it's never really explained why.

I admit, I'm not sure what you mean about Nico switching in TSatS? Please elaborate, I want to know.

Zagreus!Nico posting again, because this is my life now apparently: Nyx getting mad about Nico not being all doom and gloom Underworld kid at all times and claiming he doesn't "belong" on the surface makes no sense if he's actually just a demigod. I've mentioned before that it doesn't make sense that Nyx claims that because Nico's an Underworld kid he belongs in Tartarus (short version, of the three Underworld kids we see only Nico actually lives in the Underworld at any point and there are no demigods at all—including Underworld kids—who belong in Tartarus because it's literally a hell pit for monsters), but there are layers to this nonsense.

When Nyx is talking about Bob it seems like she's mad about him changing because he's a Titan. He's Iapetus, he has always been and will always be Iapetus, Nyx doesn't think he should be allowed to change beyond being Iapetus because immortals do not change. She thinks this because she is the primordial goddess of night and has been for millennia; that's what she is, it's all she is, as far as she's concerned she cannot and does not want to change. But these two are immortal beings. Nico isn't. I can see why Nyx's belief that she can't change leads into a belief that Bob can't change, but it doesn't follow that she believes Nico can't change, because basically the only thing gods will even semi-consistently admit is an advantage demigods have over immortals is their capacity for change. Nyx has no reason to conclude that Nico can't change because she thinks she can't change, because demigods do change. That's a huge part of what makes them so valuable to gods, and while Nyx might not know that her children absolutely would, especially considering two of the three who appear in TSatS definitely have demigod children of their own (no confirmation either way for Epiales but given they're a demon rather than a god I'm going to assume no). Given Nemesis, Hypnos and Epiales are all very quick to point out when their mother is being an idiot, they have no reason not to point out that Nico is not an immortal and isn't bound to stay the same forever even assuming Nyx is right that immortals truly can't/shouldn't change or grow. It doesn't make sense for her to freak out so much at the idea of Nico changing because that's what he's supposed to do, Underworld kid or not.

Except, as my Zagreus!Nico posting always ends up saying, it does make sense if Nico is supposed to be a god. After all, a god is an immortal being who presumably, according to Nyx, should stay just as they are forever the same as she is. We know that immortals changing due to becoming temporarily mortal is considered a problem (see Apollo's nervousness that he's going to be in trouble for caring more about mortals than he used to); it makes sense that would apply even if the newly-mortal immortal doesn't know they should be immortal, and it also makes sense that a primordial goddess who's already paying a lot of attention to this kid would pick up on their former status better than other immortals would (especially since it's entirely possible that Zagreus's life and death would predate some of his cousins). Once again, I don't think this was the takeaway I was supposed to have but it is amazing how many parts of TSatS especially fit into the idea of Nico being Zagreus reborn with basically zero effort.

How do you think Ocean Dream Diamond would handle Steven's predicament?

well first what her reverse power be... instead of taking planets to turn into colonies, she could be actively working to help those affected by homeworld thrive again (imagine a gardener outfit lol) coaxing water from the atmospheres and returning life to these planets

also she could be working to overcome her personal fears and anxieties, and becoming more outgoing at her own pace because before, she was scared of failing as a leader and shoved the bulk of her responsibilities onto her court’s inner circle so it’s about time she started taking responsibility

as for helping steven... maybe she’d recommend that steven do what she’s doing: talking & connecting to others, meditation, etc like spiritual healing! but of course steven aint having none of that
