JANUARY 2021— looking ahead

okay so i was inspired by @galaxycastiel to make a post about what to expect from me/my blog come january, and i felt like it could help organize me a bit so that i don't lose track of some goals of mine and i can stick to them!! + also so you guys know what to expect 🤍

— SPN THURS as always, i'll be around on thursdays on the spn thursdays discord server (at the main time slot, if anyone wants to come hang out w/ me !!) but i also want to post some more art/sketch pages based on the eps...i think it'll help me get more comfy in posting my art + i need the practice lmao

— RAMBLE ON we've watched through season 6 for Ramble On in the last month, so come the first week of january, we'll be mapping out the bigger plots for RO, including chapter-by-chapter plot ideas and character arcs (in addition to what we've already planned). i'm hoping we'll get good direction on this, and that we can get some drafts done in the first few weeks of the month (which is!! exciting!!) and hold more meetings to reflect this

— FICS i also had an idea for another fic (an au) that i think i'll start this month. no promises, but if i go through with starting it, i think it'll end up being really cool!! do you have any fic writing advice? or just writing advice in general? i’m struggling at being a good writer lol

I could definitely give you some AO3 courtesy advice first: don’t ramble in the tags, keep that in the authors note. Don’t tag ships/characters that rarely appear, just put a “mentioned ___” in the general tags instead. Don’t tag “idk how to tag” or anything like that, it makes people think you’re a Wattpad writer.

As for fic writing in general, make sure you know the characters your writing. A fic could have horrible writing and as long as the characters are in character I’ll read the whole thing. Try to use proper grammar if possible (punctuation, capitalization, spelling, etc). Sketch out a very general idea of your plot before writing. Don’t be afraid to write out of order, if you’re inspired to write the ending of your fic and haven’t even finished the beginning then write the ending and go back to write the rest later. And don’t be afraid to deviate from your original outline.

Another bit that you don’t have to take but that I force myself to stick by is not to upload your fic until it’s finished (if it’s multipart). Like write everything out and then upload once a week or so, that way you don’t have to worry about abandoning a fic with lots of fans and feeling guilty about it or be stressed about not uploading regularly.

So...I've forgotten this blog again. Was gonna upload or at least plan some drawings that I'm actually gonna put some effort into, not just the usual lazy sketches I've always done. But my brain seems to hate me cuz I've experienced a horrendous art block/ motivation block/whatever shit my dysfunctional brain has been going through the past months.

To distract myself from this curse, I decided to watch a series that I've been meaning to start cuz of curiosity, and that is Soul Eater. At first I thought I'll just give it a watch and then move on after finishing it...boy I was wrong.

Ever since finishing it back in June, it becomes my new hyperfixation up to this day like, DAMN, I was frickin obsessed and kept thinking about it everyday, especially Crona (who happens to be my favorite character of all time!). Who would've thought after watching ep21, I became so attached to this wonderful character 💜 and I've been gushing about them ever since (not here though since this is such a desolate place and the only trace of my hyperfixation that shows here is my babey crona pfp and header quote lmao. All my gushing is on my main where I've been rbing se/crona fanarts all the time)

Anyways, I'm still, slowly but not entirely, getting out of art block. I made a few lazy sketches the past months for practice but I couldn't make a decent doodle no matter I try. It sucks though since I wanted to draw crona and se fanarts SO BAD but my brain won't let me *sigh*

Also I realized after posting some stuff back in April, I kinda gain a few followers. Idk why though, pretty sure y'all won't expect anything from this blog cuz it's pretty much 90% inactive but thanks anyway...

I'll be queueing some old sketches here so that this blog won't be so empty before I abandon it again. The SU Movie's 2nd Anniversary / Spinel's "birthday" is also coming in a few days and I only had one stupid sketch to celebrate it lol. Summary: This is the first real template Shiki’s drawn up and sewn herself. Or would it be sewing?

Beginning notes: Addendum: This was first written and uploaded on October 8th, 2020. day 7 was while really cool was also really exhausting... so, shiki sewing mr mew and meeting fashionista eri for the first time. learnt while writing this october 8 is international lesbian day, so i think this means we have to wish these two well

even if the actual sewing didn't actually make much of an appearance i went through a shitton of old plushie tutorials i used to watch and i feel like i am obligated to put some here. maybe watching stuffed animals being made is good for your mental health idk mate im not a therapist i just type words here.

Body: This is the first real template Shiki’s drawn up and sewed herself. Or would it be sewing? Its been like this for days now - finishes her meagre lunch fast, reaches into her bag for the sewing box that’s so packed with threads and needles and felt her spine will be horizontal when she’s done, pulls out the carefully straightened templates encased in a large ziploc, and gets to work. It’s a clump of black felt that spreads out flat like a Rorschach, but when her needle goes through she knows it’s going to take form into the head. If she can make sure her blanket stitch loops do go through, of course…

She’d stuff socks and make these cutesy pill-shaped things, tape googly eyes and decorate them with her (god, not even fabric) markers, stitch up small charms she found in DIY books or online and knot them to zippers. She’s had this idea in her head for some time now, a black toy cat with white socks to carry around in your arms. And after all the sketches she did of how it’d move around or sit the template finally came to her - she used up 3 hours of her weekend drawing shapes and thinking in her head of what stitches she’d be using to piece them together. She’s only really started cutting up the felt and putting together the scraps recently and made her first stitch into it days ago.

The fabric joins together roughly - she pushes down raw edges and undoes the last six stitches when she realises how the seams will stick out like a sore thumb, trying to visualise how the cheeks group up to form the face (oh, she just realised the eyes and mouth need to be embroidered) and which point to attach the body to. She hears a thump, something like the ones of sewing machines--

“Hey,” Shiki jolts up, almost losing the thread off her needle. She scrambles to pick it up from the table and sees these stylishly smooth thin navy sneakers, washed red laces that reach up to her ankles. Her eyes travel up to the school uniform, grey tartan skirt to the black blazer unbuttoned at the top to reveal the white dress shirt with the red and white striped necktie. Up top, red-streaked hair that falls under her shoulderblades topped with a dark grey newsie. She’s only okay at faces, but Shiki assumes this is the sleeper hit Eri, the fashionable, bubbly, popular, smart, the all-star girl she sees.

“Who are you?” Shiki must be staring owlishly at this girl with her hands clapped over her mouth in a dreaded shock. She swears she saw that paperboy cap jump in how fast she moved.

“Oh gosh, I didn’t mean to shock you like that!” The girl lifts out her hand, wearing this warm smile tinged with an apology. “I’m Eri, yeah. I, didn’t want to interrupt but I’ve been watching your sewing for a few minutes now and I wanted to tell you how good you are with a needle… how long have you been doing this?”

“I’ve spent a week on this,” Shiki lifts up the ziploc. “He’s meant to be a cat. I don’t know what to name him…”

“Mr. Mew.”

“Hm?”

“I said, call him Mr. Mew.” Eri points up, eyes glittering like this is her eureka moment. “It’s a cute name for a toy cat and it’s alliterative. You’ve just got his head?”

“It’s a work in progress, I haven’t even finished his head, I still need to bring it together and do the rest of him.”

“What’s he going to look in a week? A fortnight?” Eri’s eyes blow wider and wider like if she’s imagining something immaculate, sprung from golden thread and six-figure thread counts.

“In a week I think I’ll be doing his body. Or starting on the stuffing. If I really crunch in two weeks, maybe I can,” Shiki’s thoughts trail off, but Eri’s excited awe cuts the slack for her.

“He’ll be finished?” Eri claps her hands, grinning this pearlescently white smile. “Mr. Mew’s going to be a handsome little cat. Next period’s starting soon, can I visit you again? And see him again?”

Shiki stares down, lazily pulling another stitch through the loop. “Come all you like.”

End notes: i guess this didnt touch upon too heavily on the sewing thing but i tried to make shiki sound noviceish with this GOD why does mr. mew look so good i did textiles in school and i was heavily intimidated by my teacher who was this 60 something woman who's been sewing since 12 and has had a living ruler in her brain and would laugh at me when i had to count centimetres with rulers. also had a in-built centre of gravity/alignment and assured me she cannot leave any wonky frame alone even if the queen was there. i should've continued textiles alas stem/language consumes all my units

Well, I’m in a good mood that the Heizomi prologue will get ready for upload in February. I wanted to hear your opinion about the uploading possibilities.

I first thought about Heisuke & Heizomi in turns. Negative: that would lead in a break for each one for about a month before the next chapter. Positive: I’d have less stress to work on the next Episode/Chapter. 

(But how much that would affect me in reality, I can’t tell yet. Since atm I’m working on a fast pace and actually have fun working on it in every free minute.)

So I thought about like uploading them as I go. Shedule them as soon as I’m finished with a new chapter/episode. That would lead in a parallel uploading shedule (diff days though) and I don’t know if anyone would like being spamed like that or gets confused xD (though they’re on diff blogs) 

Please tell me your thoughts on this! (you can use my ask-box for anon opinion ^_^).

P.s: I’ll add Chocolate Sticks later today also on my project page to show my actual progress on the current chapter. Idk yet how many chapters it’ll have though the story is planned till the end but not scripted, so there’ll be only a tracker for the currently working on chapter and links to eventually finished ones.

Final 2020 Update: 2021 Goals!!

So some of these may be unrealistic due to my struggles with ADHD/Depression Combo but. I wanted to get these down somewhere so you guys can see them and be aware..

Please note, my executive functioning abilities are absolutely Butchered on the regular by my ADHD alone, and the various stressors of 2020 have absolutely taken anything else I might have had in that department and tossed it out the window.

Something something something, financial stressors outside of my control sends me into shut down mode and I can't do anything productive or even fun until it's handled, but because I'm not doing anything productive, I'm not making any money, and the stressors gets worse and worse and it just ends up in a horrible cycle where I constantly want to die because I'm not able to create anything to relieve the stress! Which is why you've all seen... pretty much a standstill on my productivity save one or two pieces a month if I'm lucky

That said, I'm going to start trying (hopefully with some outside help/accountability to keep me on track while I'm unmedicated) to put a system in place that doesn't make me constantly want to die while like. maybe actually getting stuff done! So I'm making some optimistic goals for 2021 regarding both my art and ability to make money, so here goes!

I'm breaking this down into 3 parts:

Changes to expect regarding my social media, commissions in general, posting, etc;

Overall Goals for 2021;

and Goals for January specifically.

Changes to expect going forward from here:

I'm going to be making some changes regarding my social media accounts, including this one, mostly concerning when, where, and how I'm posting.

I am also going to be making some changes to my commission policies, prices, and payments in the coming year, namely:

Lastly, I will be making some changes to my art discord server!

Moving forward, I am going to be MOST active on my twitter and tumblr accounts. They're just easier for me to maintain in general, and although I hate twitter's formatting, it's just easier and faster, and frankly after deviantART and Instagram fucked with their websites/algorithms, it just makes the most sense for me as an artist.

I'm also going to be making an effort to make scheduled cross-posts on all my accounts. In the past, I've been really irregular about when and where I post things (most things got posted to my old tumblr account but never here, i rarely remember to post to instagram, etc).

This is going to include commission slots, finished piece dumps, etc.

I will also be making an effort to semi-regularly post sketch dumps, both digitial and traditional. I am also considering at this time offering a monthly digital download of my sketch collections, though I am undecided as I'm not really sure how many people would be interested.

Increasing commissions prices to reflect time spent working on specific commission types, as well as my personal cost of living.

Planning and announcing commission slots in advance.

Taking and finishing regular commissions to cover living expenses on a monthly basis

Payments will be exclusively through paypal invoice, and will be broken up in halves: first half will be taken up front after I have started and given proof of start (base sketch), the second half will be paid after completion, with WIPS given between first and second payment. Fully completed art will be given after receipt of second half. This is both for my personal protection as an artist, as well as for the comfort of the commissioner as my completion time can sometimes be long due to my ADHD/executive dysfunction.

Moving forward into 2020, my discord will be SFW, but 18+ only. This is a personal comfort thing. I'm 25 years old now, and just really don't want to spend time hanging out with teenagers.

I'm also going to start trying to schedule art streams again! Since this is the only place I can live stream due to my art computer's limitations, it just makes sense to like. Schedule them so more people are able to attend. I haven't decided exactly how that's going to look, but once I have I'm going to make an announcement and formatting guide somewhere for people to see so they can make an informed decision about joining the server.

I will also be regularly posting in the server again. This may or may not be cross posts from twitter and such, we'll see, but I DO plan on being more active there since it's been kind of dead.

I may also reformat the whole server again. We'll see!

Goals for 2021

Regular Adopt Sets -- 2-3 per month. Size, price, and number in set will be decided on case by case basis.

I'll be doing a monthly prompt for myself as well. This is just to get me back in the habit of creating things I like for myself to just feel... less bad about my art in general, and about making art. Also it'll be good for my artistic development i think?

Keeping a monthly sketchbook for warm-ups and in-between pieces. May be offered as a paid download at the end of the month, we'll see.

Might start a patreon? This is EXTREMELY dependent on what my userbase looks like. Tiers and rewards to be decided at a later date

Regular traditional sketches + scan and upload of said sketches. May also be offered in the monthly sketchbook.

Draw more self portraits & self-expression pieces! I don't know if any of yall realize how repressed I've been in the last year without therapy, and I did't either until I forced myself to pursue a vent piece earlier this month, and then felt immensely better afterward so. Going to start doing that! Maybe I'll feel better weee

Goals for January 2021

Finish at LEAST 1/4 of my art queue. I'm shooting for half, really, because fully completing it might actually kill me but! We'll see! Maybe I'll surprise myself. But I'm setting the goal low to keep my mental health problems in mind.

Finish and release the base set i've been working on, on and off. It's an homage to  the old pixel doll days of 2009-2012, and the full sheet will be free to use (with stipulations, as I have some people blocked that I don't want using it). BUT! There will also be a mix and match .psd that will be pay to use (it'll be pay to use a, bc it'll be huge, and b, bc the edits to make it mix and match results in like 6 seperate bases in general so.... yeah. pay to use)

Finish the pay-to-use base pack i started in june (i may scrap and restart though, we'll see)

Possibly release all old p2u bases of mine in one pack on gumroad? price tbd but it will include old iterations as well as unreleased remakes.

Making some dainty-specific bases! One will be f2u, one will be p2u.

it’s been a while huh

over the past month or so I’ve been doing mostly practice sketches/doodles like these instead of finished pieces. looking back on my art I’m not super happy with it and I want to put more focus into improving

Right now almost everything in my province is closed due to the virus, so i’m hoping to upload more over the next couple of weeks, but i’m still doing my college courses online and that takes priority

when this is over i’m thinking of officially going on hiatus, and later probably cleaning out this account and starting over. idk yet, i’ll make a post when the time comes

Despite the circumstances my birthday was actually VERY eventful and I had a good day!!

-Okay we gotta start with last night because stuff happened

-Mom dropped off takeout and cake for dinner and dessert respectively which was a nice change of pace

-There was an online fursuit dance competition that I had submitted my entry for a week or so prior in a kind of “oh what the heck I don’t have anything prepared but I’ll enter with an improvised routine just for fun” which was super fun to watch but I somehow ended up winning the whole thing which I diD NOT expect??? but a pleasant surprise i guess??

-Fast forward to today, I woke up and ran around my castle on my two Fire Emblem Fates castles to get all of the happy birthday messages (eventful happenings: Kaden says “iT’s PaRtY tImE!!!1!” and Shigure sings “Happy birthday to you” but to the tune of “you are the ocean’s gray waves”)

-Got a rejection e-mail for a zine I applied to a while back, which wasn’t surprising, I’ve never actually been accepted to any zines where they don’t accept all of the applicants anyway so it was definitely a delete it and move on thing for me but still, on my BIRTHDAY?? fortunately i forgot about this pretty quick

-Uploaded my twin’s birthday present she really liked which was a drawing I did of her Fire Emblem Fates avatar and three of her favorite Fire Emblem characters nerding out in the library which was nice uwu

-Kindasorta gave myself a birthday present along the same lines by compiling all of the unnecessarily fluffy and self-indulgent drawings of my Fire Emblem avatar with Dimitri because cringe culture is D E A D

-Played some chill Three Houses for a few hours

-Grandma brought over a ton of delicious cupcakes! uwu

-Got lots of birthday wishes from family, friends and acquaintances across social media which was v nice!!

-Got sent on a brief errand on our mom which ultimately ended up being pointless and unproductive since she didn’t check the business hours of the place we were going to even though she said she did but that’s mom for ya and hey at least we got out of the house

-Recorded a few 90-second dance videos so I could have one to submit for the online FWA fursuit dance competition and delightfully enough I was actually pretty happy with all of them!!

-Rambled a bit on a whim and one of my old tumblr/fandom buddies interacted with it!! (i’m v pumped when people interact with my post especially people i’ve known for a while <3 and also there’s no way to possibly overstate how ready i am at all times to have a positive and/or productive/constructive conversation about dimitri, ESPECIALLY on my birthday)

-started another dimiyu sketch, idk if i’ll finish it tonight tho (see below)

-present time, currently eating dinner featuring some of my favorite comfort foods including FISH!! and after that to wrap up the night we’ll probably watch a musical or stage play or something, haven’t 100% decided yet

1. I like both, but I prefer digital. For me, it just is easier and I can more easily colour things the way I want to when I do digital art (which is why I started it in the first place). I prefer traditional art for quick sketches, though I’ve done some more finished pieces lately with markers.

2. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, since I was at least 5

3. I took art foundations 1 and 2 in jr high and high school and I didn’t really like them. I prefer teaching myself or learning from online tutorials and other artists that draw more like I do. I just hated doing art that wasn’t my usual kind of art

4. I used to have a deviantart, I hate that site now. It’s confusing as hell and it was so hard for me to grow on there. And this is my art blog I guess. I don’t have a separate blog for uploading art so that it’s easier to find, though I might make one.

1. Do you have an OC that’s basically a version of yourself?

I....do actually. I've said it a couple of times and then I get embarrassed and then delete the post. Anyway, he's a version of myself AND a version of myself I wish I was. Ya know, my ideal self. He also filled another role which I haven't had the need to put to use as hard in a very long time which is a good thing I think. He's grown, evolved, matured as I have. Any changes to him are pretty much things I've changed about myself. Basically he'll always be a WIP because I'm one too.

2. What is your favorite type of scene to write?

Ooh! Many scenes! Fight scenes are super fun! Love me a good gun fight. I think I like more dramatic and emotionally charged scenes. I think I'm pretty good at those and suspense filled scenes. Not to be mistaken for horror though.

I know it wasn't part of the question but my least favorite are sex scenes only because I am HORRIBLY TERRIBLE at them. For real. I've tried my hand at it numerous times but it sounds disingenuous and like I'm trying way too hard. I really suck at them. Got a bunch of half finished files of n///sfw stuff that I never finished because I just think I did a terrible job at it. Maybe I'll upload 'em for a laugh one of these days.

3. Do you write cliffhangers?

No. I don't like them. I think they're like jump scares in horror movies. Just cheap ways to get the reader's attention.

If I ever leave a chapter on a cliffhanger it was not intentional. Much less would I leave a story on a cliffhanger.

4. One word or phrase that you think you overuse (but probably don’t):

I overuse the word however way too much. Probably another one but can't recall at the moment.

5. Least favorite thing about writing?

Editing. Gods above I haaaaaaaate editing. Mainly for two reasons: I always think the sentence/paragraph/chapter coulda been better executed. Second reason is I waste a shit ton of time second guessing my choices in words. Listen, you don't need to tell me my vocabulary is at kindergarten level. I KNOW it is. Most times I feel like shit about it and waste even more time with the browser on dictionary.com looking for synonyms for words to replace them with so it doesn't look like a 5-year-old just tried to write a weird espionage (idk C called what I'm writing that and it's stuck ever since).

6. How much prepwork do you do before writing if any? (outline, scene breakdown etc)

I overthink it to death.

I have my plot, characters, locations and everything that goes into it. To the point of what weapons everyone will be using and why. I take a crash course on the locations, the culture, languages, take an unnerving amount of screenshots on Google Earth. Check stores and hours of business. Traffic, population, day to day activity. Check the history of the location and a refresher on what happened in the years where the story takes place. Find ways to translate the local language. Weapons! I check their history, when they were made, if they're still in service, what ammo, they're strengths and flaws, manufacturers. Same goes for the gear they wear. Why are the antagonists there. What do they want and how do they get it and how can they succeed. Should they succeed? Should they fail? Why? What motives they have. What the history and origin of the mythological creature(s) are involved is.

Take all I just said and triple the amount of work if I make up a town or city for the sake of storytelling.

Tl;dr a lot.

7. Do you use any visuals to help you with writing? If so, what?

Nowadays I have to. I don't know, I think my brain is broken or something and I can't concentrate like I used to. I can see and hear the scene in my head like a movie and I can repeat it as many times as needed but as soon as my fingers touch the keyboard I draw a blank and lose direction. I've actually resorted to doing storyboards of scenes and rough sketches of buildings so I know where to go, why and what for. I've turned all my sketchbooks into storyboards.

If there's hand to hand fighting or with bladed weapons I watch some videos on YouTube or wherever I find them and write down what I see and later edit it well.

If I was any good at it Legion would be a comic instead but I'm no good at it. So I gotta resort to writing and even then I heavily question my ability to do so. I know I'll get something written and finished someday but boy is it frustrating.

8. Is there magic or new technology in your WIP? How did you come up with it?

Yes. Both but mostly magic. I'm kinda working on implementing more technology. I do also combine both magic and technology. One example is a small sphere made of plastic that can easily break. Place it in your mouth and bite into it. Inside is a light pink mist that feels like a warm liquid (also minty sensation) that travels through your body. It's a combination of adrenaline, pain killer and healing aid. Won't magically mend broken bones, remove bullets or revive the dead but it'll help in ugly situations. There's also laser weapons that run on crystals. So long as the crystal has energy you got ammo then just recharge the crystal and you're good to go. There's some more tech but that's for another time.

The only magic I've made up for this is Astral magic and its counterpart and it's been a bitch trying to balance it out but I've gotten there.

Portals are also a thing I added in.

Honestly I really wanted to add magic. There's supernatural stuff in it anyway so might as well go all the way. I just come up with these out of wanting it there or to fill a role.

9. What are you currently reading?

Nothing. With my attention span I'm lucky to get to the third page. Last book I bought is still in a drawer gathering dust. Was a Tom Clancy I believe.

10. What would you like to see more of in Fantasy novels?

Wouldn't be fair to make demands for a thing I don't partake in now would it. Don't read anymore honestly.

The Next - A Generator Rex Fanfic

I’m here posting a fanfic on Generator Rex, especially dedicated to Noex coupling! <3 I began this love affair in 2015, and took 3 years to finish this arduous journey. I love to write as it helps exercise the ideas in my head, but I’m not much of a good storyteller. Nonetheless, I won’t be stopped by it because my love for my favorite boys demand that their story continues after season 2 of the animation. It can’t just end there. And so, here’s the birth of my labour of love, hoping that this will please other Noex fans out there! ^^ Pls also note that this is a re-post from fanfiction.net, because I would like to try peppering my stories with pictures and sketches to help build the story, which I can’t do on the other website.   So, pls bear with me as I will post the chapters slowly, as and when my images are ready for upload. FYI: All past events leading up to the worldwide Cure in Endgame has taken place in my fan fic. The story just continues on from there, fast forwarded about six years. Noah is now in his final semester in college, and Rex is still with Providence. I know the worldwide cure has deactivated nanites, so there not many chances for Rex to be jumping into action. But hey, White Knight did mention at the end that everyone was still not nanite free. And since I really enjoy the concept of rouge nanites and nanite-controlling powers, I've tried to weave that back into the story. I think it feels more like Rex's world this way. Hee hee. And on top of that, I'll be introducing new villians too, just to give a little variation. [Warnings]: If you don’t already know what ‘Noex’ is, you may be advised to hit the ‘back’ button straightaway. lol. Because the main coupling here is essentially Rex Salazar X Noah Nixon. I absolutely adore their bromance, like, idk what’s wrong with my spectacles but everytime they get all friendly and brotherly, or even competitive with each other, I just keep seeing them flirting. lol. My brain seems to be hardwired waywardly so pls forgive me in advance if this idea is a turn off for you, and feel free to turn back because moving forward, I kid you not, our boys get pretty much downright frisky later on. ;D But if you are a fan of them like me, then this will right up your alley. The backdoors will never seem more right than now, as it did for Rex and Noah here. *grins* Without further ado, here you go~ Enjoy! ^_^

HONESTLY CURIOSITY TOWARDS MY ORIGINAL STUFF IS ALL I CAN DREAM OF! Especially since I don’t get to talk about them much. If anything, “Everyday Christmas” was the last project I thought I would be able to talk about, especially because of it’s subject matter and how much I put myself into it.

But also I’ve drawn JACK on it, so here’s legitimately all I have of the project development assets that I have thus far.

I’m not kidding when I say the project has a 2% completion status over on my original project lineup list but here we go.

I remember very clearly that I drew Ange way back in 2014 during US Government class in high school, but I’ve since lost that doodle and I hope to find it. TBH tho, not much has changed in terms of Ange’s design from their current counterpart.

Now the reason why I’m at a stalemate with even CHARACTER DESIGNS is because I honestly don’t know what design style this should be animated in.

Which seems like a strange sentiment, but I’m long past explaining my feelings towards handling art styles, so you can read that explanation HERE.

I drafted the screenplay way back in 2015 under the name “DIV-IN” (short for “Divine Intervention” as a temp title) and I printed it physically for posterity’s sake recently.

Around the time I attempted to do this, I still did not understand how screenwriting worked, since at this time I didn’t think about taking taking animation seriously. Much less screenwriting , since I didn’t value myself as a writer. At all. AT ALL.

Here’s a preview of what this temp script contains:

....You can tell a highschooler wrote this lmao. This script will most definitely be scrapped and redone from scratch sometime. Hopefully.

As for design works, since I was in high school with my IRL bestie @mmhinman​ at the time I legit could not for the life of me find the appropriate faces (not design--faces.) for these characters despite having the story down somewhat so I asked her to scribble something for me during passing period. (All I asked for was that these characters need to be fun and easy to draw since the story already hurts to tell, and most of my projects are complex AF in the design department so I wanted some leeway.)

She gave me this:

So on the back, I decided to adapt it.

Here are the very first few developmental sketches of the “Boy” and “Mom” characters. (The dad, I have no idea but I have an inkling that I’ll mention in the next bit.)

And then after these sketches were done I put this project on the shelf to work on “The Fledgling.”

It wasn’t until 2017 where I started to get interested in drawing “DIV-IN” since I gained a lot of experience after “The Fledgling” and the preproduction of “Like Glass” began that I wanted to stray away from the original designated aesthetic to be more akin to the works of Yoshihiko Umakoshi (namely his stuff in Casshern Sins and Ojamajo DoReMi--the latter being a childhood favorite of mine.)

The one thing that’s holding me back on this aesthetic being the defining style for the whole project is that I’m super attached to how Ange themself looks--but the style of Ange harkins to my fascination with Lynn Okamoto’s work specifically the adapted designs of “Gokukoku no Brynhildr.” (And a little bit of “Pita Ten.”)

To this day, I’m still torn between the two aesthetics. I haven’t drawn the “Father” character yet because he will look in accordance of the mechanics of the chosen character design style.

If I go the “Umakoshi” route, he’ll probably look something akin to “Braiking Boss” from “Casshern Sins.”

And if I go the “Okamoto” route, then I might look into his other design works for inspiration

Idk if he’ll actually look like Bando specifically but the thought has crossed my mind.

The title was officially finalized this past year in 2018 when I sat down and simmered in trying to find an appropriate title to encompass the whole project on a thematic level. (Especially since I couldn’t take calling it “DIV-IN” anymore lmao.)

And that is literally all I have to “Everyday Christmas” at this current time.

My first mission if I were to deep-dive into it’s production and actually finish writing/drawing it in prep for animation I’d have to find that very first sketch I did of Ange since it’s very important to me, and then round out the final character designs of all the characters. And maybe find proper names for them unless I marry myself to the framing conceit that “this is a fairytale-like story” to heart.

And it may seem like I’m plugging this in a lot but it really is true. If you’re fascinated with “Everyday Christmas” on a writing standpoint, then I really have to mention that it’s a very....uh....straightforward in it’s character writing and themes. As in, there’s very clearly defined “categories” you can sort parties in. (PARENTS=BAD, KID=GOOD, ANGE=GRAY AREA)

Now if you’d like about the same kind of seriousness in the storytelling but crafted much more poignantly and have characters MUCH more nuanced and in grayer areas...That regard would go to the current project I’m writing, “Sow Don’t Sing.” 

I actually compare “Everyday Christmas” and “Sow Don’t Sing” a LOT because the two are the darkest stories I’ve come up with to date despite their mega differences in execution. They also both contain a lot of my own personal feelings and how I’ve come to understand them, especially with my family.

Ah, my babies~ (❁´▽`❁)*✲ﾟ* These are the lovely characters from my Kingdom Hearts fanfic series, Masked Liar, consisting of so far, 4 stories. My main girl, Ayano, followed by little boi, Haruka (left), and my friend’s OC which they entrusted me to write into my series, Akio (right). Their outfits are new (& slight wip depending on how I want to change them in the future). Mostly I’ll stick to these since I love them so much and they’ll be in the next installment of the series. The sketch on the bottom is a a more in depth version of Ayano’s new outfit. Her hair ain’t short, it’s just put up into a bun on the back, though idk if I’ll give her a new hairstyle as well.

I commissioned these from the wonderful @hvalross-art​. Her art is a beauty and it’s ever-changing into more wonderful pieces every time I see her upload more. If you guys are up to it, I’d highly recommend checking her out! Not only as an artist but as a fellow writer with the stories she’s got out. She does both wonderfully~

Also, the stories of Ayano, Haruka, and Akio are being written as we speak. I’ll link them in order next. From where we meet Ayano and her mysterious powers in Little Miss of Deceive (I’m currently thinking about rewriting that one but only after I finish my current wips), to her infiltration missions in Artificial Friend, to her fateful meeting and subsequent adventure with little Haruka in The Girl Who Cried Snake, to the most current installment where Ayano dives into dreams and meets the very antisocial and mysterious Akio in Curse of Ursus.
