For the fic prompt ask game:

Jason is getting more and more involved with the Batfamily and even they start to see how Jason isn't seeing Bruce's abuse as abuse, even though it is so obvious that it is. He brushes it of, spends more time with them, takes more and more risks. Until he dies. Bonus point if it's Bruce killing him, completing the circle back to UtRH

Oh yeah, that's an accurate one, ok. I'd write that.

And then they realize that there had been, in the beginning, some attempts of Jason reaching out to talk about what was going on with Bruce, but *they* all brushed him off, so when they realized what was happening, it was too late. Like, Jason reached out in his dysfunctional ways, but if anyone had paid a little attention, there were signs of what was going on.

It was a bit because they all went through complications with Bruce, but they never complained about it, and Jason, well, maybe he deserved some of what Bruce was doing, right??? Bruce was hard on all of them, and *they* were good, so of course he'd have problems with The Murderer™️. Something something someone telling Jason "yeah, Jason, Bruce can be an asshole, but you also don't help."

The rest goes under the cut because this got waaaay longer than I originally intended. Also waaaay angstier.

Considerable time passes, and Jason starts to be "better" - he abandons his own methods and philosophy, turns into A Good Soldier. At the beginning the other bats are actually very suspicious of him, but the thing is... Jason is convenient. If he's there with them, Bruce goes easier on everyone else because he's too preoccupied paying attention to whether or not Jason will be in line. In the beginning, Jason taking more risks is also convenient (they are all self-sacrificing, but it's good when they don't have to argue between themselves who's gonna do the most dangerous thing because Jason's already leaping into it). Except the stuff he does starts to more and more to have the vibes of "I want to die/don't care if I die" instead of "I'm doing this because I'd rather die in your place."

Something something someone realizing that Jason might not even be self-sacrificing at all. Because, you know, he doesn't see it as a sacrifice 💀 (maybe because you can't be a lamb for slaughter twice).

Someone maybe even tries to talk to Jason about it, and he just really doesn't get what's the problem. I don't know if rhato25 happened in this AU, but either way, Jason internalized shit such as this:

And if this is the kind of love he'll have from Bruce, then he will fucking take it, and if people don't want him and Bruce to be "close", then they can go fuck themselves. He's suspicious of people's worry - they never cared before, and just because he adapted better than they expected, and because he's useful in a way no one else can be, he won't let them take what he achieved from him.

Just... Jason making the most out of his expendability.

And while the other bats really didn't like Jason at first (or maybe they didn't even dislike him, it was just that he was an outsider for them), as the time passed they all got closer to him, each their own way. Not saying they are super close or anything, but Jason goes from being "a guy I know and think is kinda problematic and maybe it would be better for everyone if he was still dead even if I'm against killing" to "Jason is a guy I know and he helped with this and that, and he can be kinda funny and maybe I don't want bad things to happen to him". And it's only when he went from an outsider intruding in their lives to "huh guys maybe he's actually one of us???" that they started to pay attention to Bruce's treatment of him. As I said, by then, it was already too late.

Still, maybe someone tries to talk to him, and Jason's very aggressive to that it's actually a whiplash, because he's been playing nice with them, so why the change now that they are trying to help him???

Note: no one ever brings up the word "abuse". It's always "Bruce maybe is going too far", and "it's fucked up", but saying that Bruce is abusing Jason would imply that 1) Batman's an abuser and 2) that maybe Jason isn't the only one who went through abuse, and *no one* wants to think about that, even if they recognize the fucked-up-ness.

For this ask game

Anyway... They play to stage up a Real Intervention, but *cosmic threat happens* and they have to deal with it, so the intervention is postponed for After the Mission™️ and then Jason dies. He does because Bruce told him to do a very dangerous thing while Bruce would do Some Other Part of the Plan, but Bruce is human and makes mistakes, so he didn't account for some random factor that resulted in Jason dying a horrible and agonizing death 😊

had some time to think and watch people watch the minecraft movie trailer, and i think I've realized my main gripe with it. out of all the directions they could have chosen, why did they go with the one they did???

like. okay. i watched both phil and mumbo watch the trailer who had very different and opposite thoughts. i think mumbo was right in that it seems like it's trying to be an absurd, camp, and silly movie that makes fun of itself. the style (how ever mismatched) leans into that and the humor seems to go in that direction. and I think for what it's trying to be (camp, absurd, making fun of itself), it will probably be an okay movie! the focus won't be on minecraft, it will be on the minecraft world, if that makes sense. the look and mechanics over the feel and vibe.

on the other hand. i hate that they chose this direction. minecraft is such a game of stories, of the hidden stories, of what you make of the mysterious and wonderful world around you. you have the end poem. you have the music. you ha e the ruins. you have new expiernces and wonder and fear. yes it's a big world, but it also feels small. it's just you! in this abandoned and recovering world. and it loves you.

it just feels like that whole aspect of the game doesn't matter here. it's just the surface level appearance, mechanics, and look of the game. it honestly feels more like minecraft legends than normal minecraft, but even then it's missing the whimsy of legends.

yes it looks bad. yes it has like four different art styles. I think for what they're trying to do it will be Okay at best. but what it could've been. that's the real loss. It could've been about nostalgia. about love. about the universe. about making your own world with your own hands. about the quiet emptiness left behind you now have to live in. those raw experiences that won't be considered. whatever

I think this is one of my favorite lines from the Wraith route because of (imo) how much the meaning changes depending on if you got there via Spectre or Nightmare. For Spectre, it honestly strikes me as a genuine question. Why are you doing this to her? If you're on the Spectre route, you presumably already know the Narrator can't really be trusted, since you had to reject his reward to get here. What are you hoping to gain from continuing to hurt her? For Nightmare, it honestly just makes me sad. As the Shifting Mound describes her, "She desires only companionship, but the only thing she knows is how to hurt." This line feels like a plea from someone who genuinely doesn't understand why you keep rejecting her. She wants to be with you, but she just can't understand how to do that in a way which doesn't hurt you.
