I’ve recently rewatched dl and I wanted to find out if you had any thoughts on Pearl and Scott’s dynamic.. (double life or general idm)

BOY DO I. SIT DOWN

I've talked lots about Scott before, of how he twists the narrative the most and treats most relationships more as transactional. I will now immediately follow that sentence up with dear god please don't assume I hate Scott he's so interesting and compelling PLEASE don't think I hate him I beg of you I LIKE HIM I don't think he's evil and a villain he's just a bit fucked up like everyone else PLEASE just. believe me

Anyway now that that's out of the way. Scott I think has an innate need for connection but denies it in favor of weaving his own narrative that he is in control of, especially so in Third Life where to me, it feels like he sought out to find a tragic love story and he got exactly that, from his perspective anyway, what with the final sequence of him meeting Jimmy again in some imagined afterlife, the one part that was scripted and it shows. Love is a variable that he can't afford the risk of. I think the story with Jimmy that he weaved was more important to him than genuine affection. In Double Life he admits to having whittled Jimmy down to nothing in order to get something from him. But then along comes Last Life

In Last Life, whatever it was, something about Pearl really appealed to him if even subconsciously and he very genuinely cared about her imo. And that was a relationship that oddly enough started as purely transactional yet quickly developed into the most meaningful one I think Scott has had. Even when he faltered in returning Pearl's affection fully, Pearl didn't care and stood by him. Well exemplified by the time he kind of froze when Pearl was boogey killed by Lizzie, but Pearl didn't even think to hold his inaction against him. (Especially fun contrasted with Pearl accidentally breaking the rules in killing boogey Joel for killing Scott lol). ADDENDUM: I forgot that it was because of Scott's encouragement that Pearl ended up killing Joel, which could have been the first indication of Scott having it out for Joel, or he was just being petty (because he very much is, as are many of the others, he's just good at masking it). Nonetheless my point stands when contrasted with Scott freezing up when Pearl was killed by Lizzie whereas Pearl had defended Scott adamantly

But all of that was the variable that Scott sought to avoid, so in Double Life he immediately uses what he can as an excuse to ostracize Pearl, almost as if to punish her for the crime of. loving? And I'm not about to claim that Pearl is wholly innocent but I'd argue that was unwarranted. Cleo and Scott are a great dynamic in a vacuum but unfortunately Cleo is also quite terrible (but then who isn't. It's a death game, they all are. Sorry I have to keep making these remarks because otherwise I get labelled a hater) and unfortunately fuels all the worst traits in Scott while Scott very readily sticks to her. They remain an encouraging pillar to Scott, it's just that the things being encouraged are like. Their ritual to slice each other with axes at full force just to stick it to Martyn and Pearl. Pearl often gets compared to Scott as equally physically harmful but idk personally I don't think the snow bucket compares to start-of-every-session-near-death-axe-crit routine. That's again not to say that she's innocent

Upon Scott spreading completely unfounded claims about her being crazy and malicious, she starts to adopt those claims. What else is she to do to get by? She has been nice to most players and nearly none of them want her around because of rumors despite her causing harm on accident at worst. She comes close to finally finding friends in Jimmy (Tango as well but mostly Jimmy), but ruins her chances by briefly playing into Martyn's "prank" and giving him Jimmy's horn without realizing it's importance to Jimmy, after which Jimmy tells her that she's no longer welcome on the ranch. She's effectively lost everyone and it is 90% due to Scott, not due to her actually acting the way she's claimed to as she only starts to go down that path after repeated rejection (sure she let herself be physically hurt to get at Scott, but it wasn't because of malice or having lost her mind, her doing so was reasonable anyhow but got twisted into something it wasn't. It's still wrong on her part and I do think she goes at least a bit insane as Scarlet Pearl surfaces, but the point is that she wasn't that when Scott started painting her that way)

Even in the very end, Scott retains control. He retained control of not only his narrative but contributed to most others' as well, painting Pearl as the exact character he wanted her to be known as in every POV outside of her own. And as they stand face to face as the last two survivors, Scott denies her any chance to change things, taking his own life instead whilst painting himself as noble in doing so

Scott is incredibly self-sacrificial but only when he gets something out of it, and because it allows him yet more control. He wants to be able to control when he dies, and he also gets to turn it into utmost grandiose statements of nobleness when he does, which then changes others' perception of him accordingly and directly or indirectly allows Scott to get something in exchange. His suicide in DL is no different, it was for him, not for Pearl

In Secret Life Scott also instils the idea of Pearl being untrustworthy in Gem

Wild Life. grrrr. Wild Life.............clenches fist. Pearl's personal hell

I think you can infer I was. scared to say the least about Pearl upon seeing her alliance in Wild Life. In the end though I ended up just being immensely sad and disappointed. Just about nothing worked out for Pearl, only for her trauma to be mocked repeatedly by Scott and Cleo

Pearl imo shows so many signs of regression, and she holds onto Impulse as the one member of her team that isn't actively taunting her, making it a goal for herself to see Impulse win, and it is that: for her, for anything to go her way, not so much for Impulse as much as she does genuinely care for him. She really doesn't spend that much time with him, she just needs a goal to work towards for her own sake. Pearl being unstable, untrustworthy and especially pathetic are all things that continue to get enforced within the alliance, where she's often spoken to like a ticking time bomb and the team's destructiveness gets relegated to her specifically. She recognizes not feeling good about it but she doesn't recognize everything that's at play in the social dynamics of their alliance or the extent of it

She becomes scared of people becoming resentful of her were she to make mistakes all the while Scott and Cleo start enabling her worst tendencies, aka Scarlet Pearl. They don't do this a large degree but they do make an explicit point of it, or at least Cleo does. Cleo is also however, if even vaguely, trying to mend the relationship between her and Pearl, where they occasionally encourage and defend her although it's not to a significant enough degree for Pearl to really realize. After Gem's death, Cleo is also there to help although Pearl is too distraught to appreciate it

While Gem's largely the catalyst for the "pathetic" notion that Pearl adopts to her detriment over the course of Wild Life, it only affects Pearl as strongly as it does due to her having gone through what she has, and because she's in a largely unloving alliance that fuels and reminds her of her wrongdoing. Just compare her mental state here to the one in Secret Life with the Mounders. Although it does have importance to her because she seeks reconciliation, she isn't allowed to forget about Double Life, she's not allowed to heal and grow around the grief of what's happened to her

And the final two notable incidents in her and Scott's relationship are 1. Her being made to feel like she needs to kill Scott, which she doesn't and ends up picking her own method of killing him to retain any semblance of choice, and 2. best summarized by my friend's Pearl POV analysis: "Scott is wearing my clothes. instead of villainizing me, our “reconciliation” has encouraged him to embrace the qualities he thinks I represent. he matches me, and we don’t talk about our past"

I state again that I like Scott, I like Cleo, I don't think they're evil or villains, at the very least in no cut-and-dry way. They're flawed and compelling and although I feel sad for Pearl and see Scott as largely at fault for what's happened to her, I care about Scott too and he's easily in the top 5 of most intricate Life characters to me that I enjoy dissecting

You know like. enjoying any character in any other fandom that is morally reprehensible in any way. I don't know why that's such a wild concept in traffic but sigh. I have to disclaim this unfortunately

Life Series Alliance Analysis Session Recap:

Scars Snail cam is the best thing to happen this season.

Yes, another week means another session of Wild Life and damn did this one live up to the name. This session's Wild Card was the Infamous immortal snail, an idea originating from a meme that asked if you would press a button to get one million dollars if it meant an unkillable Snail would Chase you and if it ever touched you, you'd die.

This session's snails were far more dangerous though, resulting in far more carnage and downright Junji Ito-Esk descriptions of the incredibly ominous snails. On session 3 there are already 3 reds on the server and, had Grian not called end of session early, we would have had a first player out. So much happened and yet no progress was made, let's see what the teams were up to.

Also, 34 DEATHS WHAT THE FU

The Fast And The Furious (Gem & Joel)

I'm not calling them the family. That name is already taken. And is also lame.

The dynamic duo start the session by immediately forgetting they're supposed to be trying to shake their Villainous reputation by vowing to convince everyone to kill Pearl & Impulse, an incredibly stupid plot for many reasons:

1.Everyone they convince sucks at they're job

2. By gems own admission, Impulse barely did anything to her

3.joel literally forgot about this, since it wasn't important

4. Pearl literally did nothing to her, she was just they're as Impulse was having a rake in there chest (no the poisoning doesn't count, Pearl would do that to anyone)

5. If Pearl is to be punished for just being in the area, then why aren't Cleo & Scott also punished?

6. Gem and Impulse have no interactions this session

7. Pearl and Impulse STILL don't realise Gem hates them

8. Gem repeatedly calls what she's doing “Social Deduction”... no.

Gem actually has a lot in common with Impulse, they're both being extremely ruthless for no reason (if these two become thr final two and there isn't an AMV of there journey through teh season set to Ruthlessness from Epic I will literally eat snow.)

How will this saga end? Idk but it's very funny. keep it up.

Apart from that Gem built a wall, befriended her Snail and neither died. Well done!

(Sidenote about the Gem-Impulse beef, people forget this since he hasn't mentioned it yet but Joel makes it his mission to kill Scott every season. These teams would still be against each other regardless of what Impulse did, which is also very funny)

The Final Girls - (Pearl, Scott, Cleo, Impulse & Bigb)

Oh Deer. That's a lot of deaths very early for the faverouites to win

So to start, Impulse’s Creeper farm is a bust and likely will never be seen again. Whoopsie.

The team also decided to move a smidge closer to everyone else. Due to the snails no substantial progress could be made on this endeavour from most of the team tho, luckily Pearl (after dying to her snail, immediately proving herself as the teams crash test dummy again) was able to get a grip on her snail and get the build started, unfortunately as Pearl is building it is almost certainly going to become a tower…. Oh Pearl also died again building it. What's up with her this season?

Moving on to the perpetual drama that I'd this team’s dynamic, where once again we see the contrast between how Tumblr acts like this team is and how they actually are, with everyone just having a grand old chill time joking around and petting dogs. Crazy to think that a team made of these 5 goober would actually ENJOY when they're teammates cause chaos, Hmm?

A lot of this team's session is actually spent apart, meaning that there isn't much to talk about with them. But Pearl is on Yellow now, meaning she is definitely killing someone next session (an action the whole team is one board with btw). Once again proving herself as the attack dog of the life Series, she asks the team who to hurt. Impulse tries to convince her to attack Ren for killing him, but Pearl shoots this down, once again proving that she is NOT ruthless like impulse. Remember everyone, Pearl might be a little chaos gremlin but she does need a reason to kill or she won't do it. She isn't actually just a murder machine like in double life

That's the funny thing about double life actually. Pearl has moved in from the tower, its everyone else who is stuck in it.

Anyway, grian has a big ol target on his back, we'll see how that Pan's out next week.

Oh also SNAIL RACE HELL YEAH MOTHER FU

The Bam-Boozelers (Scar, Lizzie & Jimmy)

Lizzie thinks snails are arthropods.

Remember when I said Jimmy was the only confident one on this team? Well I guess he didn't have the confidence brain cell this week because he died. He died so much. The entire session for these guys is pretty much just trying to save Jimmy.

This doesn't go very well at all. Jimmy is able to get one life back through a deal with Ren, but all other attempts to intentionally kill someone fall flatter than Scar in session one. At least he does take initiative and blow up Joel's Hidious-Horrible-No-Good-Mobile. Great work big man!

Aslo, Jimmy admitted to being the harvester of the end! The canary curse isn't dying g first it's dying RIGHT before the Finale! That's Canon! I was right! VINDICATION!

The Tuff Guys (Bdubs, Etho & Tango)

Word of advice, if you need to constantly say your tough, your not.

Somehow despite making literally negative progress, this team still managed to do a lot. Bdubs immediately starts the episode with some light gaslighting on account of being bdubs. After this it is decided he must “do something tuff” and so he is sent to go mess with the Bam-Boozelers.

Keeping up with tuff guy tradition, bdubs doesn't do anything. Instead he enlists the Bam Gang to help him make up a story about how totally bad and evil he is. Bdubs is also allowed to come stay with them when the tuff guys inevitably fall apart. An offer bdubs is willing to accept even after Jimmy & Scar get him killed.

In other tuff news, Etho is desperate to prove that he is super tuff and shows up to kill the Bam-Boozelers cows…while they're away meaning he did not have to display any tuffness. He literally just needed to be in and out before they got back. He also takes a second shot at the final girls at gem's request again, and like the first time it goes horribly. The first time he gets distracted by the snail dance party (who wouldn't) and when he remembers what he actually set out to do, the most tuff then he can think of is empty threats and mild littering. C- for effort.

And then there's poor unfortunate Tango, not only does he go to red this session but he also loses his house after being blamed for the cow deaths etho caused. Oh but don't worry he got revenge on scar… in a way that was easily repairable and did no actual damage apart from massively lowering his own reputation.

That is the great tuffness of the tuff guys everybody! They're failing at everything and getting overly stressed about shelled gastropods!

The Spanners (Grian, Mumbo & Skizz)

Grian seemed to think this card would be easy, and I geuss it is if you k ow what to expect and have one of your mates Snail watching you all episode.

Now, Skizz, majestic failure that he is, went yellow super quickly and so the entire session is spent trying to save his but in a multitude of ways, all of which skizz manages to fail at spectacularly. Grian does manage to save Ren from Yellow for about ten minutes and at the cost of any chance he had of Impulse not killing him.

Eventually skizz gave up on all the compilated plots and just wacked Lizzie until she died.

He then immediately got killed again God damn it skizz.

OK so skizz massively lowered they're reputation with the Bam-Boozelers for nothing AND Impulse's revenge meter is full and his team won't hold him back anymore AND I think Martyn might still be peeved at the Enchanter situation AND Tango probably still wants to kill them AND despite what grian says Gem and Joel don't seem to care about them beyond nudging them to kill Impulse so yeah these 3 are super dead, I give them like a session until one of them drops.

P.S Mumbo calls the Snail meme a “thought experment” and I found that very funny and I think you should too.

Also apparently Jimmy and Grian debate what to do about the snail all the time??

Renwood (Martyn & Ren)

There will be a live Snail reaction meme over yaoi of these two I just now it.

Fallowing they're arc of being nice this season, Renwood goes on a great friend finding journey, allying with Gem & Joel on the condition of totally being super mean to Impulse promise and forming a friends to the end Pack with Jimmy at the cost of a spare life.

Ren probably regrets that particular pact as, while trying to perform a great horse search, he loses a life. And another. And so he must kill, allying temporarily with the Spanners to get a kill on Impulse, something that he immediately regrets, proving he is less of a Rottwiler and More of a Labby. Luckily for ren he avoids Impulse's revenge list for now on account of apologising, getting instant Karma for it and the other final girls desperately holding Impulse back.

Martyn on the other hand has a far better time, gallivanting I'm the Nether with etho for potions (he died doing that but shhh), organising the great Snail dance party and joining up with fellow Chaos Gremlins Pearl and Impulse to have some fun with snails and tnt.

With potions in hand the Renwood duo and Etho got up to all sorts of mischief, turning ren invisible and making Scar's Snail invisible, resulting in him almost dying twice and being out of the series…oopsie.

Also Martyn sucks at explaining the Snail meme and thinks the all spice guy and kool aid man are the same person.

Predictions?

With more information comes the first Predictions from me.

●Someone goes out and soon. Probably Skizz or Scar. Jimmy will survive tho, after all the canary curse means he's the harbinger of the end of the series… though with how it's going, next session very well could be the end of the series.

●Grian Is getting murked next session, probably by Pearl.

● The tuff guys will fall apart. Bdubs will buy with the Bam-Boozelers, Etho with Gem and Joel and Tango will be left scrabbling for someone to team up with.

● Joel will try to get revenge on Jim for blowing up the car and will fail

● Etho will continue to look like a total loser

● One of the people yet to die loses a life next session.

So uh yeah. I'm gonna go lie down for until next week.

It's been fifteen years. She knows she's not old, that at thirty-five she still has plenty of life left. She's changed a lot in those fifteen years; leaving Beacon Hills, pursing her passions, coming back after breaking off her last engagement to a man named Caden, who was nice but wasn't him. And then, after that, she began seeing him everywhere. She knew he was still in Beacon Hills, but she also knew that every time she had to double take it wasn't him. She tried to stop herself, but every time, she always had to check. Just incase. Even now, when she was in the mall, she was trying not to look at anyone and make her mind play tricks on her.

Their relationship plays out in her head constantly. Sometimes, she thinks of what may have been if he hadn't broken up with her. How different her life would be.

She wishes she could have lived with the love of her life, but that's not the way it worked out. Stiles had made it clear that he didn't want to see her again, and she still loved him enough to obey his wishes.

"Y/N?" She turns at someone's voice, and then realizes that it's Scott. His head is shaved, and his arms have more tattoos, but it's unmistakably him.

"Scott!" She pulls him into a hug, because once upon a time she was apart of their pack. She had missed the alpha, missed the way he had cared for her. She missed the whole pack; the unfortunate thing about moving to escape one person was that you miss all the people you left behind.

"I haven't seen you in forever! You look great!" He tells her as he pulls back. Y/N smiles, heart filling as nostalgia bleeds through her.

"Thanks," She said softly, feeling lighter somehow. "Do you still talk to everyone else? I'd love to have a little reunion." She was slightly nervous at asking, but Scott nods enthusastically.

"Yes! That would be great! We haven't seen you in so long." He pauses, and Y/N knows what he's going to say before he says it. "I know Stiles would love to catch up." She tries to keep the sour look off her face.

"How is he doing?" She asks. She wants to wish that he's single, but she also wants him to be happy. It's a tightrope she walks constantly.

"Good." Scott says simply, and after they exchange new numbers and set up a good day, they say goodbye. She can't help but think about the last time she saw Stiles as she walks to her car.

"I love you so much it scares me." He says it softly, but he's crying. Y/N's heart is racing, because something is clearly wrong.

"I love you too." She says, grabbing his hand. He lets her, but it's clear that this isn't going to end the way she wants it to.

"I know I don't talk about my mom a lot," This throws her off, because she had thought he was breaking up with her. "But she had frontotemporal dementia." Y/N waiting to see where this goes, because she already knew this.

"Stiles," She starts, wiping his face.

"Y/N," He shakes his head, effectively moving her hand from his face. "It's hereditary." She's still confused, because she knew this, too. What was Stiles getting at?

"I'm confused." Y/N whispers, wishing she could pause everything. She doesn't want to move forward, ever, because something inside her knows everything is about to change.

"I can't put you through that." He says, turning away, and she can't help her jaw dropping at this.

"No." She says, because she can't let this happen. He is going to break up with her.

"I've seen what it did to my dad, and I can't let that happen to you. I can't take care of you like that." He says, and she is speechless. She couldn't talk , the emotion in her throat blocking even her air to breathe and clearing all words from her vocabulary. "I know it'll hurt now, but it's the only choice I can see."

Y/N can't handle this, so she gets up and leaves. She doesn't even look back, just listens to Stiles crying until the door shuts.

She can't think about what will happen tonight at dinner as she gets ready. She tries to keep it away as Scott pulls up - he had offered to drive, and she knew she was probably going to drink a few more than she should.

"How often do you guys do this?" Y/N asks after they greet each other.

"Whenever Lydia comes back from the city. Tonight everyone will be there, but sometimes Jackson is in London, or Malia is traveling." She nods, and they both wait a minute before she speaks up.

"I need you to prepare me." She hadn't wanted to ask, but she knew she couldn't face it. "I need to know about Stiles."

"What about him?" Scott asks, and Y/N can't look at him.

"Girlfriend?" She asks it without skipping a beat. "Wife? Kids?" She feels like she wants to throw up.

"He had a girlfriend, but they're broken up now." He answers for her. "No kids. I don't think he wants any. Biological - that is." She's grateful he's answering, and she nods, still looking out the window.

"He still work for the FBI?" Y/N asks, finally looking over. They're almost to the restaurant, and Scott waits until they pull into a parking spot. He turns the car off, then turns to her. 

"He isn't showing any signs of dementia." He says, and Y/N feels like she can't breathe. She feels like she's suddenly too light.

"Okay," She whispers, nodding.

She could have been the one. He broke up with her for no reason.

"Does he still think he'll get it?" She asks, and Scott sighs.

"I think it never leaves his mind. But he doesn't seem so obsessed over it. As time goes on and he hasn't shown any signs, he's gotten less scared." He gets out of the car, walking around to open her door. She gets out, turning to see Stiles, Malia, Lydia, Liam, Mason, Derek, Kira, and Jackson all standing near the entrance. It seems Scott and Y/N are the last ones to show up.

"The Nogitsune really fucked him up." Y/N says, her gaze fixed on him. Stiles broke up with her three years after the Nogitsune had tried to take over and kill Stiles, but she knew life could have been different if it had never happened. If the monster had never put the ideas and visions into Stiles' head in the first place.

"Yeah." Scott agrees simply, and she takes a deep breath before walking over there.

Stiles' eyes meet hers, and she can't breathe. It feels like they're the only two in the entire world. She doesn't know how she continues walking, but somehow she makes it over to where the group is, eyes finally leaving Stiles' when Lydia tackles her in a hug.

"God, it's been forever! How dare you up and leave us!" She cries out, and Y/N laughs as she puts her arms around her friend. It feels good to be back with them, if a little weird because she hasn't been back in a decade and a half.

"I'm back, I promise." Y/N says, going through the hugs with everyone. When she finally gets to Stiles, she feels like she can't speak. She can barely breathe.

He's got a stubble now, his hair shorter than it was last time she saw him. Her eyes trail over every freckle, still there. She traced them all, once upon a time. She still has them memorized, as if they were on her own face. His nose is crooked; he must've broken it while on a case. He somehow feels taller, and he's definitely filled out. He's no longer the fragile teenager she met twenty-one years ago.

"Hi," She whispers finally. She knows everyone is watching, but they may as well be on the top of a mountain.

"Y/N," He says softly, and then he pulls her into his arms.

It feels like home. It's safe, and comfortable, and she never wants to leave it. She takes a deep breath, and realizes he either never changed his cologne or he specifically wore the same one that he would wear on their dates.

They pull apart, and for a moment Y/N thinks they may kiss. But he turns away, and she does too, not able to look at everyone's faces.

"Let's eat!" Liam cheers, and everyone begins to file inside. Somehow, Y/N and Stiles end up bumping into each other as they both try to go in the door last.

"You first." Stiles tells her, stepping back, she feels her cheeks heat as she walks through the doors and follows the rest of the group to a table that's been reserved due to the reservation Lydia put in.

It's way more awkward than Y/N thought it would be when everyone starts to sit down. Because Y/N and Stiles were at the end, they end up sitting next to each other at the end of the table. Y/N's heart races as she sits, looking at her menu to distract her from the fact that Stiles is right next to her for the first time in years.

It's just one dinner.

But then everyone decides that dinner wasn't enough to catch up, and suddenly they're out getting drinks. They all take a shot, courtesy of Lydia who insisted everyone needed one to get going. Y/N's sipping her lemon drop as everyone stands around a tall table, too old and not drunk enough to dance where a bunch of college kids are grinding. Y/N's sure that at least half of them are underage, but she remembers sneaking into bars using her fake or making friends with the bouncers to get into bars before she turned 21.

"What brought you back?" Stiles asks. He's next to Y/N once more, drinking a beer. She can barely bring herself to look at him.

"I was engaged." She blurts. She hadn't talked about this during dinner, despite the fact that Lydia, Malia, Kira and Scott all knew that she was engaged. She guessed that they got the hint that it ended from the lack of ring on her finger.

"Oh," Stiles isn't quite sure what to say to that.

"It ended." She tells him, trying to talk over the music. "He wasn't the one." She takes a sip of her drink to stop herself from saying that she's knows Stiles was the one. Clearly he wasn't, but nothing could stop her from thinking it. She's glad she wasn't drunk enough to lose her filter.

"I see." Stiles takes a sip of his beer, and the two listen to the music for a moment. "I'm sorry." He says out of nowhere. Y/N almost chokes on the lemon drop, but manages to swallow it before she can make a fool of herself.

"For what?" She asks, but they both know that she knows exactly what Stiles is apologizing for.

"When I broke up with you, I honestly thought that I was doing the best possible thing. I thought that it was just puppy love, that I could get over this." Just the thought of it," It sounds like he has no idea what to say now, and all Y/N can do is blink.

"It was fifteen years ago." Y/N says, but it might as well have been yesterday with the way her heart still bleeds.

"I'm still in love with you." It's like the world goes silent. She knows the music is still playing, but everyone at their table has turned. Y/N is staring at him, wide-eyed, and she has no idea what to say. "I know it was a decade and a half ago. I know that I broke your heart. But I have spent that whole time thinking about the mistake I made. And every single day, I wish I could take it back. Thinking about how much time we lost breaks my heart, and I swear I spend half my days convincing myself that you're still better off without me."

"Stiles," There's tears in her eyes from the emotions that she buried all that that time ago coming back up.

"Not a day goes by when I'm not thinking about what our life could have been. But I was too afraid to see it through, and I will regret that until the day I die."

Y/N thinks she may pass out.

She's been waiting for this apology for years. She never thought the day would come, and now she feels like her knees are week. She's shaking, and it feels like a magnet is pulling her towards him.

She grabs his shirt and pulls his lips to his. There's no hesitation on his end, he's immediately kissing her as if he has done it every day for the past fifteen years. She knew Stiles was the one.

Everyone around them is cheering, and their lips smile against each other.

"I love you too." She whispers as she pulls apart, flattening her hands against his chest. His hands are on her hips, and she leans into him. He just smiles wider and leans in to attach their lips again.

You know, I understand the hate she gets with the old x-men movies, she was...a mess 💀 but while reading Logan's memories about her in your work, I was like "omg scott is USELESS and jean is evil af" and then it hit me the feeling of making a woman bad for the sake of a mlm couple while the othet part was just as bad, but not recognized as one, but...

I am not a fan of Jean in most interpretations, especially not the movies - there may be some interpretations where she comes off better but shes not my cup of tea as a character, although she does have potential to be really interesting

However, the version of Jean in this fic is obviously something way worse than that. In the Scott pov fic it will become a lot more obvious when i get to that, but definitely was not my intention to just be like "woman bad because shes in the way of gay couple".

But this version of Jean from Logan's og universe is incredibly evil, and Logan is 100% valid in feeling that way. Scott is also Not Great and fucked up (as did Logan honestly but we'll get to that - and not to same extent) but in the story I'm creating its definitely not a case of Logan making excuses for Scott - honestly, with some of the context Logan is unfortunately missing, he may feel differently about a lot of things, but not Jean (if anything she probably will come off even worse). All 3 of them fucked up in some way, but this version of Jean is pretty easily the worst.

But like, not necessarily true of all versions of Jean, and its not my intention to have her /just/ be an obstacle! This is just a version of her, and its more because I wanted to explore how fucked up her powers could be if used by a terrible person, more than wanting to just get her out of the way or something. Like I don't like her, but I also feel like her whole deal is very under ultalised in the movies

Also just wanna say, as I post more stuff you will likely notice I have a bias towards writing mlm couples, but I wanna just be clear that that is because I am a gay man, so like thats what im naturally gonna gravitate towards reading and writing. You and Chris had a year long friends with benefits relationship. You both hated each other's guts, you were Scott's friend and he came along and made you feel like a shitty person.

At first it was a usual hate relationship, you both avoided each other and gave each other odd looks, but after one night you both had sex and it was history ever since.

You keep coming back to each other for hate sex. It felt wrong but it felt so right.

One night you both fucked up and ended up not wearing a condom. Now here you were pregnant with Chris' child.

You walked over to the kitchen with a mug of tea in your hand. It currently was 11 in the morning and you were about to get to your routine check up on the baby.

Chris walked into the kitchen, he glared at you a little making you frown.

"do you want me to go with you to the appointment?"

You sat your cup down, "yes, why do you ask? You always come."

Chris sighed, running his through his hair. Currently he was frustrated with you for no reason which wasn't even shocking.

"ok then." You swallowed, "maybe we should go now." You picked your phone up off the counter. You walked past Chris, slightly hitting his shoulder with your own. As you walked down the hall you could hear his groan and cursing. It was quite easy to piss him off at this point.

Chris drove you to your doctors appointment. You got your checkup; your baby was fine which was very amazing. After that you and Chris got back in the car and started the drive back home.

The ride home was quite. The only sound there was, was the radio play and the cars around you.

You stared out the window and looked out at the car in front of yours.

"I'm going out on a date tonight." Chris said breaking the silence. You looked over at him, frowning. "What?"

"I'm going on a date. I need to especially after all these months of not being with anyone."

You couldn't believe him. There was no way he was getting into a relationship right now. You weren't jealous of course, but you weren't feeling happy about it.

"are you serious?"

Chris Hummed not taking his eyes off the road. You scoffed, "I'm pregnant with your child. Can't you wait till after?"

Chris looked at you. "Why should I wait for you?" "I just told you Chris, I'm pregnant with your child. I'm going to need you for one and I don't need another bitch coming to ruin everything."

You practically yelled out. Chris shook his head, giving you a side eye. You laughed, but nothing was funny. Everything about Chris being in a relationship before your baby came pissed you off and you definitely aren't going to hide how much you hate it.

Once you were home you escaped to your room like a teenager after her mom pissed her off.

Chris watched as you did. He didn't get why you were being stubborn. Was it because you were jealous? Was it because you couldn't stand the thought of another girl being in your babies life? He'll never know, but he was going for the first one.

Around 7, you decided to go down stairs and grab something to eat Because your cravings were through the roof.

You stepped into the foyer to see Chris fixing his suit coat. You gave him a look for a second before walking into the kitchen.

Chris watched as you left. Suddenly he was starting to feel bad, but he was snapped out of that thought when the door bell rung.

he walked to the door, opening. "Hi emily." Chris said as he pulled her in for a hug.

You heard their light conversion and decided that you were going to be a bitch and walk in to meet her.

Chris turned when he heard your footsteps. You smirked when you saw the girl. She was a blonde, probably the same height as you were. You could very much tell her body was a fake, but let's not get into that.

"hi." You walked up to the girl and she stuck out her hand for you to shake it. Chris stood their awkwardly, you felt no shame for it either.

"you must be his sister." Emily said.

You sucked in your breath as you turned to Chris. "Oh no, no honey. I'm the girl he knocked up." You showed her your bump in your oversized shirt. "But don't worry we aren't together. We're just fucking. Anyways you two have fun on your date."

You waved before walking back up the stairs. You left a trail of destruction you were sure, but you felt no shame. You weren't lying about anything anyways.

Not to treat you like an expert on comic books but, what do you think of the Ominous Chalkboard Ramblings from flashpoint beyond #0? Idk what half of it means but… Geoffy’s little hints gotta mean smth for his other ongoings

i'd love to be treated like a comic book expert, god knows i try to read enough to warrant it! i think a lot of the chalkboard is pretty straightforward so let's take a look at it:

5G averted -> the 5G initiative, or generation five, was a rumoured reboot of the dc universe that had been set up all the way back in doomsday clock 2017 and then unceremoniously cancelled between dan didio jumping ship and the pandemic delaying books & thus putting the fear of low sales in publishers' hearts. what we have left of 5G is wonder woman #750 (which is narrated by alan scott while attending the 1939 world's fair), the flash #750, detective comics #1027, generations: shattered #1, generations: forged #1 and supposedly future state. the purpose of this potential reboot had been to unite all eras of the dcu and make sense of it all over again like zero hour: crisis in time had back in 1994. instead, we got the soft reboot that is infinite frontier 2020 and the current time-related arc starting from the new golden age 2022 #1 because geoff is clearly still set on the generations/legacy aspect (and thank god he is!).

must travel beyond omniverse etc -> this one's less clear but i'd guess it's related to dark crisis 2022 and the return of the infinite earths, we've got an upcoming tie-in (dark crisis: big bang) dealing with precisely this. geoff explains the omniverse and hypertime better than i ever could right here:

the true black adam will show no mercy -> i think the answers to this one may be found within the pages of christopher priest's black adam 2022 miniseries but unfortunately i don't keep up with that one. something to do with malik white surely?

fall of justice league/rise of legacy league -> one again dark crisis related. when flashpoint beyond first came out we were very much still in the very early stages of crisis, it stands to reason that the legacy league is referring to the generation of heroes currently at the forefront of the action (jon, yara, dick & damian, etc) after the death of the justice league in justice league #75 last summer.

why is deathstroke not acting like deathstroke? -> again early dark crisis, the fact that slade hadn't been using his usual methods is a topic of discussion more than once in the first couple issues. the answer is that he's been possessed/infected by the great darkness and he's under pariah's control!

the legions of four worlds/remember earth-3/warn earth-247 -> i suspect this one's something to keep an eye on for future developments but the original legion of super-heroes was wiped out during the continuity reboots in zero hour, giving rise to a different legion until infinite crisis 2005 when a third incarnation appeared, which means up to now we technically have the legions of three worlds -- a fourth may very well be the one seen in the new golden age #1, which showed a future justice society in the 30th century but that's an educated guess at best. worth noting here is that remembering earth-3 is likely referring to remembering its destruction during crisis on infinite earths 1985 and earth-247 (named as such in infinite crisis) refers to the post-zero hour future earth of the second legion of super-heroes incarnation.

the great darkness wants nothing -> very much true, dark crisis: the deadly green 2022 #1 reveals the great darkness to be infected by pariah's madness and grief and having no motive of its own.

beware: he'll find his son do not interfere -> this one's anyone's guess since it's kept purposely vague. one of my theories is that it may refer to the stranger seen haunting helena in the new golden age being per degaton's son to keep in line with the lost children theme, otherwise i can't think of any character currently looking for his son (flashpoint thomas has already found his son after all, while a few others -- jay garrick, roy harper -- are looking for daughters). another possibility is doctor manhattan's son from doomsday clock as he's briefly seen in the new golden age.

his daughter will rejoin the justice society to save it -> helena wayne! the new golden age and the upcoming jsa ongoing both reveal that someone's been interfering with the justice society's timeline across the ages and helena's on a quest to save the jsa, the use of 'rejoin' makes it especially obvious since she hasn't been a part of the team since all-star comics 1976.

thomas wayne will die -> flashpoint thomas wayne was going to die as rip hunter makes it abundantly clear in flashpoint beyond #6 but bruce's gambit paid off and thomas came to accept a world without his son.

who's hunting the time masters? -> the leading question in, again, the new golden age. my guess is per degaton or a possible son (see above) with access to his time-travel tech.

I recently read your mcyt god au, and got extremely fascinated, it's quite well thought out! I sketched out a couple designs (Joel and cleo) , but I added bit of my own touch to it. If you don't mind, I would wanna know more about Joel and cleo as gods like idk just them, and possibly the double life relations to the au? thank you~

I’ve talked about Joel a lot (here’s a post on it, if you haven’t seen already) so I’m not sure I have a lot more for him right now. All I can think of is that he’s soulmates with both Lizzie and Etho; the latter is a relatively new thing that happened during/after Double Life, which I’ll get to in a moment.

As for Cleo...unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of stuff planned out for her yet (and I can’t remember what I’ve already said, lol). Since she’s a zombie, a fraction of her power is constantly going towards keeping her animated, so her aura - eyes and stitches glowing green - is always faintly there. I think that in this AU, her skill with the armor stands plugin is like...she is a sculptor. She is a very good sculptor. She can make her sculptures come alive (kind of like automatons). Also, her and Joe are soulmates.

Now. Back to Double Life. 

It’s the third run of their death game (they’re gods/immortals; of course they’re gonna sometimes kill each other for fun. enrichment, yknow?) and this time Grian goes “Hey. What if I took inspiration from how soulmates are a thing and just made that really fucked up?” and then he did. Godly powers are still locked behind wards for fairness, but soulmates take on attributes of each other the longer the game goes on and the closer they get to red.

Somehow someway, Joel and Etho become actual soulmates during Double Life. They assume that any actual-soulmate side effects during the game are because of, well, the game’s mechanics, and then they don’t think about it too hard after and so don’t realize until later. Grian is the first one that realizes, since he’s in charge of Double Life and its wards, so he realizes when the soulbond becomes more solid than what he’d made for the game

Another thing about Double Life. is that, like the previous games, everyone has titles that they are referred to in stories/myths told about said games. This time around, each duo has a name that they as a collective are referred to as. Each person in a duo has a primary title that (generally) matches with their soulmate’s; after that, it’s whatever other titles they have.

You asked about Joel and Cleo, so! Joel’s title is “the Wild One” (together, him and Etho are “the Wildfire”). Cleo’s titles are “the Defiant” (matching with Scott) and “the Bitter One.” Her and Martyn are collectively referred to as “the Antipathetic”

I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Bobby and how his thoughts of Scott and Jean may have evolved over the years or vice versa because of all the Scott and Jean space soap opera? I just really like to hear your thoughts, but if you don't have any that's fine as well! Keep up the great work!!!

i love bobby drake bobby makes me emo but i don’t know that i have a lot to say about him that hasn’t been said better by other people. i think in general, especially as a teen, bobby is lonely, and repressed, and he therefore kind of latches on to the other o5 as “his people”, even as all of them grow older.

in terms of scott. bobby is the second student at xaviers and that kind of informs a lot of how i think about his relationship to scott, even if we don’t see much of that time on page. i kind of think of bobby as a surrogate brother to scott? somewhat? idk where i got the idea that he and alex are the same age, but i do think that, and i think bobby filling that role is interesting in terms of alex and is also just interesting in terms of what it means for bobby’s relationship to scott. like. scott is serious, all the time, about everything, and is constantly trying to tell people what to do, and is protective of bobby (something helped, i think by their meeting literally being scott rescuing bobby. which is also i think relevant to the scott and alex and bobby dynamic). and meanwhile bobby is annoying and immature on purpose.

i think bobby is in part annoying and immature on purpose bc literally everyone at the institute treats him like a little kid, not just scott. he is the baby. and he does not escape designated baby as an adult, the others do still treat him that way sometimes, especially when they’re making fun of him. and he is immature on purpose because everyone already treats him that way, and he’s lonely, and he also feels that being designated the baby means everyone else is disregarding him. because they kind of are. and meanwhile bobby KNOWS that he is capable, and competent, and just wants everyone else to take him seriously. especially scott! who doesn’t really seem to.

i think what happens with scott is scott sees bobby goofing off in training and thinks “iceman is going to get killed”. so scott gets upset, and bitchy, and refuses to take bobby seriously. and meanwhile bobby sees goofing off in training as something he gets to do because he is good enough. he can take care of himself and he knows how to be a superhero and he is good at this, so he doesn’t need to take everything so seriously all the time. and unfortunately scott is a “take everything seriously all the time” kind of person, especially when he’s younger i think. this is something that happens with them as kids, but it’s also a dynamic that continues into their adulthood, such as in x-factor. and as a total sidenote, one of my favorite bobby & scott quotes is “i can be your iceman”, from season one. it makes me emotional.

the rest is below a cut because i had a lot to say it turns out.

i actually care a lot more about jean and bobby’s friendship than bobby’s friendship with scott? they love each other! she still kind of treats him like a kid, but, like hank, i think jean is much more tolerant of bobby’s goofing than scott is. they’re capable of having a lot of fun together. one of my favorite depictions of their friendship is in x-factor (1986)? which is probably not surprising. jean is having a bad time in x-factor, so she doesn’t always respond well to bobby’s jokes, but she does still joke around with him! she is melodramatic and grandiose in the way jean is when she’s having fun, and its clear they both really care a lot about each other, and are supportive of one another.

i don’t think bobby and jean really have a very interesting relationship as teens in 616 canon, in large part because during the silver age writers were not really interested in jean, or a lot of her emotions, and later writers i think prioritzed other relationships. but i think based on what we do see and depictions of their friendship as adults it would make a lot of sense for them to have gotten along well, and to have been pretty close. something i think a lot about is jean kind of picking up on bobby being closeted, and bobby suspecting that she might have, and jean really being supportive of him and him taking things at his own pace, such that they never bring it up to one another directly. this is largely based off of x-men #46, where jean and bobby have a conversation where jean tells him she really admires how he takes things at his own pace, how he doesn’t give in to pressure from others. this makes a lot of sense as something jean would admire, to me, and though the conversation is about mutation and not being gay, i think it is still easy to read it as being about both. the issue also does bring up bobby and jean’s long history, and history of trust. they’ve been trusting each other with their lives since puberty!

speaking of trust! x-men the hidden years #1 shows the aftermath of jean and charles lying to all the other o5 about charles’s death. jean defends herself, and scott accepts her reasoning immediately, but bobby is extremely upset!! he says he can never trust her again, and even (briefly) quits the team over it. and he gets over it and comes back, but how upset he is in that moment really, to me, says a lot about the depth of that friendship with jean, and how much he had trusted her before he found out she had lied to him.

in terms of scott and jean as a unit, i think bobby can be kind of irritated by them somtimes? in part because they do have a lot of drama but also i personally think scott and jean are just kind of annoying about each other. and bobby is Annoying On Purpose, so he likes to make fun of them about it. he does care deeply about them both, though. recent comics have a tendency to depict young bobby as upset at the attention jean gets from the other guys, and i think this makes sense, and is interesting in the context of them having a relationship where he does personally like her, and care about her a lot.

idk those are a lot of my bobby drake thoughts! they are mostly about young bobby, so i think i didn’t really answer your question, but that’s what i had on the brain.

also i didn’t want to put this in the jean section but as an aside i think bobby and jean being friends becomes even more poignant and good to me in situations where jean is also closeted. i just think. they’re good.

Yeah, unfortunately it sounds that I’ve got the same sentiments as you about the movie🫠 Regardless, I’m still gonna watch it at some point (probably tomorrow, we’ll see) just to give it the old college try.

The main thing I’m concerned about (and what I feel is going to make or break the movie, in my opinion) is how they handle Allison coming back. (Rofl, I’m in such a HOTD mind state, I wrote “Alicent” at first and didn’t realize this until I read it back.) Like I get it’s a shock value thing, but I feel that all of our main crew had some major character development that resulted directly from her death. From where we left Scott (and everyone else) at the end of the show, it really seemed that they had all accepted Allison’s death, and learned the true value of each other because of it. And bringing Allison back, and keeping her back/alive, sort of seems to be lessening or undoing all of that, which I feel is a huge disservice to the other characters.

Low (high) key, I’m hoping there’s just some weird magic whatever going on, which allows Allison to temporarily “come back”, but by the end of it, she’s actually going to be dead again. Idk what shape or form that would take, though. But if they did something like that, it could just further cement the idea of accepting the past and what can and cannot be changed.

the real problem is that at least one of these copies was a gift from my old teacher, the other I assume I borrowed from someone and forgot to give back (likely also from a teacher. unfortunately I have a couple books that I never got the chance to return)

I'd prefer to keep the copy that was a gift, but I honestly don't know which one it is- the nice, unmarked copy, or the one that's beat up but has a sticker on the inside indicating it was from the "highly capable" program, which means I definitely got it around the time of the gift

They're both the same edition of the book (published as part of the Scholastics Classics collection, with an introduction by Orson Scott Card). Idk, maybe I should donate the nice copy, and keep the one that has history (even if not my history).

I like Brettsey, but I'm not the biggest Brettsey fan because I'm not a big shipper, honestly (so I like Stellaride and Burzek as well and feel nothing for the other OC ships), but even I have to admit that they did them; the individual characters and the fans are so dirty with that break-up. I don't think the writers realise how shitty they have been with all the baiting and saying stuff they don't mean. I'm disappointed but not surprised, but honestly, this is how I've felt about OC for a while now:

Making Violet's whole storyline about two men-Gallo and Hawkins

The constant miscommunication or lack of communication with Stellaride and Brettsey

Dragging the slow burn with Brettsey on for way too long.

Replacing Mason (Chris Mansa) with a white male actor.

Saying they had no more storylines for Dylan Scott even though he's what made Med feel like it was worth watching again.

Pushing Ritter and Kevin to the background and only using Kevin for a race storyline.

Notice how it's the black characters they keep treating like crap.

The constant back and forth between Kim and Adam.

The lack of acknowledgement that Kim and Adam, two white cops, are raising a traumatised black girl (one acknowledgement isn't enough.

Having three opportunities during season 10 of CF to cast people of colour or LGBTQ individuals and instead casting 3 white heterosexual characters.

The list goes on.

I think that's when you really know that as writers when you've messed up, when people who like the characters but not really a big shipper can appreciate how dirty they've done them!!! The thing that annoys me most about all this bloody baiting and shit is that they had ample of warning Jesse was leaving, and yeah they probably wanted to see if he just wanted a year break or if it was indeed long term but there was plenty of time to do the storyline and have the conclusion be like this but in ways that actually makes sense with the bloody characters!!!

But yeah, as disappointed and frustrated it makes me, it unfortunately doesn't surprise me. But that kinda makes it more disappointing, that it didn't exceed the incredibly low expectation I have for these shows.

And YES omg the Dylan Scott thing has pissed me off so much, because I think a lot of the fandom can agree, that he brought a new life to the show and actually made med more worth it! But no, off he goes!

And don't even get me started on how they continually push Ritter aside-- literally did he have only one line (about violet's bloody love life at that!) last episode??

And pd continually just using Kevin for race storylines -- and then not even reflecting on the biases and problems poc face in every episode, just once in a blue moon when they remember Kevin is a character-- it just really pisses me off. I am hoping this season he gets a storyline outside of it, because he is so long overdue but I'm not very optimistic because I thought the Celeste storyline last season would be but nope!

I do agree they need to address the two white cops raising a traumatized black girl thing more, but that I'm even less optimistic about. The main problem is they decided to bring her in before burzek has sorted themselves out, which means, especially with too much focus on other characters, whenever any episode is on them, the writers decide to continue the insane miscommunication and conflict between them rather than idk, doing a much more interesting storyline about interracial adoption? My hope is that now it looks like burzek is sorting themselves out that we'll get more storylines around that but I very much doubt it since this is cpd after all !!

Tbh when I got into one Chicago I did get into it knowing that most likely it will not deal with race well but I am a huge shipper-- I watch things for the romance really, and that's everything -- so I accepted that but honestly it's-- ESPECIALLY fire bc pd has always been pretty damn shit and definitely has been since s5-- gone supeeeeer downhill recently and it annoys me so much!

thanks for answering! that all makes sense. i read alex did his own fighting and stunts (idk if true?) so i wondered if maybe scott did too and was worried he got hurt at that time or something. i don't keep up with actors usually i just noticed danny's absence because he's my favorite so i miss him when he's "in jersey" 😭

Alex did his own stunts for the first season, and maybe a part of the second season? However, Alex did end up getting hurt. So after or during s2 he stopped. But Alex has been doing jiu jitsu and things of that sort for years! So from what I know, it’s been a part of his life, even before h50.

As I’m sure you’ve seen, Danny had a cane in s1; for a few eps. That, I believe was an actual injury Scott had. They ended up adding that into the show.

And I miss danno too when he’s gone! I’m sure others do too. I’ve seen the show like a hundred times over and over. So unfortunately I’ve grown to expect Scott’s absence in certain seasons/eps. :(
