favorite thing about them: REALLY underrated secondary antagonist, interesting moral code, she has insane girlie guilt over her actions that doesnt get explored enough.....and shes a kitty cat :)

least favorite thing about them: her arc in the original series was like...a little inconclusive? i wish she couldve come to terms with sofdtis sentience and whatnot. the trajectory of a2z is changing her in a way im really liking so far though! im excited to see where she goes

favorite line: that whole rant at the tail end of the series where shes just like. a bunch of people she cared about almost died and she was freaking the fuck out. it hurts....i love her she needs THERAPYY

unpopular opinion about them: kizuna is probably the most divisive character ive done for this so far...all i can really say is like...i joke about supporting womens wrongs and stuff but i think introspectively she does have a lot of potential as a character that we dont see a lot of because most of the scenes with her are from zettos perspective. Welp, time to embarrass myself...

Okay, so, two things to bare in mind:

1. This isn't really a legitimate review, just my initial thoughts right after seeing the film.

2. I've never seen a Saw movie in my life up until this point, so my opinion may have been different had I seen the previous movies. All I knew were the premise of the series and a decent idea of who John Kramer is supposed to be.

This movie was fucking great. Up until this point, I've never had much of an incentive to watch a Saw film, I only went to see this one because my friend invited me and I thought why the hell not. Turns out going to see it was the best thing that could have happened. Not only did it drastically improve my mood, but it also gave me an incentive to check out the other films in the series.

First of all, I've always have a soft spot for Red & Blue Oni dynamics, more specifically, when the two of them are allies. Seeing two opposite personalities interact in a friendly manner is always fun to watch. While it's not as pronounced as the likes of Ronnie & Bull (friendly) from NFSMW 2005 or Kaito & Kokichi (unfriendly) from NDRV3, there's definitely a hint of this with Kramer (Blue Oni) and Amanda (Red Oni), with Amanda being more emotional and vengeful and Kramer being more calm and focused on his, shall we say, questionable form of redemption.

5D Chess anime moments are a guilty pleasure of mine. They're ridiculous, but always fun to watch and genuinely exciting when done well. I think you already know where I'm going with this one, so let's just move on.

Again, I haven't seen any of the other Saw movies, so I could've had a different opinion had I seen them, but I found Kramer to be a genuinely lovable guy in this movie. I am well aware that he isn't a good person, after all, removing someone's eyes and snapping their fingers is way too extreme of a punishment for thievery, but most other things he does in this movie is shit that I can support. Him being a father figures to that kid and attempting to save said kid at the cost of his own life was fucking heartwarming.

John Kramer is definitely still a villain, there's no two ways about it, but I like this movie's bad vs bad, lesser of two evils (sort of) dynamic. John Kramer, as an anti-villain extremist who thinks what he's doing is for the greater good, up against Dr Pederson, a genuinely fucked up scumbag. Again, I haven't watched the other Saw movies, so idk if this happened in any of them, but I loved it here. It's a good way of making a fucked up villain like Kramer, more genuinely heroic while keeping him in character.

I also love the (I swear there's a word for it, I just don't know what it is) of the final girl. This trope often involves the killer being a pure evil monster who only wants to kill and hurt people and the final girl being a heroic ultimate good guy. At first it seems like the movie is going with this, with Kramer being unflinching towards the brutality of his traps and being in complete control of a nightmare scenario, whereas Pederson has a friendly demeanour and is usually seen with a sweet smile and when her and her associates are put in the traps, she appears to be encouraging them to beat each trap. But near the end, John Kramer, the murderer with a brutal history, attempts to sacrifice himself to save a random child's life and is a sweetheart towards him, whereas Dr Pederson, turns out to be a selfish prick who's willing to let those close to her die for her own sake (also, let's not even forget her scamming sick and diseased people). As a franchise that revolves around the trope of "who you are in the dark" this is a great way to do its tenth installment.

So yeah, overall, nice film. Sorry if I sounded like a fucking idiot, my media literacy (if that's even the right term) skills aren't that good. I am definitely going to check out the other movies in this franchise cause goddamn!

i work in retail full time and im on my fifth (!!!) year in community college lmfao. decided to finally take a stab at a degree in my late twenties.

Do you watch anime?

lmao yeah i think it’s clear based what i’ve been reblogging recently but tbh i just only started a couple of month ago

i love 2d animation very much so it’s surprising that it took me so long to get into anime. i guess i used to have some prejudice against it, thought it weird for some reason. but so many people said aftg is like sports anime so i had to investigate. 

but first i decided to watch the most famous anime i knew (bc i erroneously thought it was the best) so i watched death note and well... idk it had its moments but ultimately i found it too convoluted and the last chunk just plain bad. 

then i started haikyuu bc people said it’s the best sports anime. as of now i’ve finished season one and it was alright but nothing special and definitely not comparable to aftg. there’s too much volleyball and not enough character stuff. i mean i know it makes sense bc it’s a show about volleyball that’s literally called volleyball but if i wanted to watch volleyball i’d just watch volleyball you know? anyway i’m gonna keep watching but not rn bc thankfully i’ve found some anime that i actually liked and now i’m obsessed with them.

first of all i had the pure serotonin shot that’s yuri on ice. it’s short, it’s interesting, it’s self-indulgent and it looks gorgeous. i can look at the animation of skating in this show non-stop, i’m mesmerized by it. no need to say i binged yuri on ice in one sitting and the very next day i made my sister watch it with me. its major rom com vibes aren’t something that i ususally like but i think the medium of anime just magically makes it work for me. if it were a book or a live action i wouldn’t have liked it as much. it really made me appreciate what anime can do, both visually and narratively.

finally, over the last couple of month i became a huge mo xiang tong xiu fan and all three of her books have been turned into anime (donghua) of various quality and i’ve watched all of them but the one that took over my mind is unsurprisingly mo dao zu shi. the thing with anime is that sometimes its visual style is too dramatic for the story being told, but if the story is as dramatic then it’s perfect. and that’s the deal with mdzs cause it’s fantasy with lots of cool magical fight scenes, it’s set in china so you’ve got beautiful nature and architecture, majestic costumes and just general cultural stuff and it got compelling characters with very attractive character designs that reflect their personalities - all of which makes the visual appeal reach it’s peak. i loved it and i think i’ll be obsessed with it (and all other things mxtx) for a long time.

i’m gonna watch fullmetal alchemist brotherhood as soon as i’m done with my uni deadlines and also i’m taking recs as usual :)

Is Grell really a trans woman? I not trying to be disrespectful, I'm just really curious. I recently bought vol. 28 (in spanish) and Grell called themself a lady but still used he/him pronouns when talking about themselfs. I thought they were just an effeminate man (I have met several gay men who sometimes call themselves women, idk they find it funny or something). So,,, has Yana confirm Grell is trans? Can you show me where?

⚠️ I generally don’t go and bother individuals regarding the pronouns and gender they choose to use for their own characterizations of Grelle, so I ask that no one give me a hard time for what I’m about to say here. I will not tolerate anyone who reads this and verbally attacks me. ⚠️

Grelle… and the Magypsies

When I first joined the fandom, I assumed Grelle to be an effeminate gay man and used masculine pronouns for the character all the time. It doesn’t help that the licensed translations tend to characterize Grelle that way. The French version of the Character Guide even explicitly calls Grelle an “effeminate transvestite homosexual”. Some characters insist on calling Grelle by masculine pronouns. Grelle admits to being “male”, but the licensed English translation even goes so far as to have Grelle say “man”.

Then I started reading really good, strong evidence in favor of Grelle being trans. Also, my growing Mother3 theory suggested I should reconsider my old stance on Grelle’s gender. I stopped using masculine pronouns for Grelle, and I honestly avoid pronouns as best I can. You might have noticed while reading this.

Yana-san has blogged and tweeted trying to explain Grelle’s gender, but she’s never said “trans woman”. That’s because the term isn’t really in her vocabulary. In Japan, they say “okama”. It’s an umbrella term for a diverse group of people. It’s a bit like saying LGBTQ… but in a less respectful way. Seriously, it can mean a gay man, a cross-dresser (like a drag queen or even potentially a straight transvestite), or a trans woman. The Japanese traditionally lump them all together… and, in the entertainment industry at least, often treat them like comic relief.

Grelle is treated like comic relief early on in the manga… and generally treated that way in the anime, so far. But Yana-san has since tried to explain Grelle this way “the body of a man but the heart of a maiden”. And she has allowed Grelle to become a more serious character over the course of the series, even if still over-the-top at times.

I talk about parallels to Mother3 quite frequently here, and Grelle’s parallel is quite telling. The most direct parallel is to a Magypsy named Ionia. Ionia’s color is green, but that doesn’t matter. Their personality matches best with Grelle. Ionia is brash and flamboyant, insists on wearing makeup, and says a thing or two that suggests an interest in sadomasochism. 👀 All the Magypsies are of questionable gender. They have been referred to at times as “genderless”, but some of them display pronoun preferences, etc. And they each look potentially trans, except Fassad, who looks more like a cis man. Oh, and each one is associated with a bright color. Except Fassad/Locria, again, who wears white.

When asked about why he included characters like the Magypsies, Itoi explained that since the real world includes such diverse people, the world of Mother3 should, as well. I like that answer. Hell, I went to PetSmart today, and my cashier was a drag queen, and I mean in full-on drag: big poofy wig, thick makeup, deep voice, blouse, polka dot mini skirt, pantyhose, heels, etc. And it wasn’t even afternoon yet. I just say “keepin’ it weird in Austin”. Art imitates life. So, yes. Games should include diverse characters, too.

If you include Fassad, there are seven Magypsies. Locria deserts the others and changes their name to Fassad (like a facade)… and looks the most masculine of the bunch; this allows Fassad to go unrecognized as a Magypsy until the character has already been truly defeated. Similarly, if you include Undertaker/136649, we have met seven reapers in the manga (we see Eric and Alan, but we don’t meet them… or even see their names in print). And we know that 136649 deserts the other reapers and changes his name to Undertaker. He goes unrecognized as a reaper until he reveals his eyes.

TL/DR: There’s pretty strong evidence that Yana-san intends for Grelle to be trans, and I do now fall firmly in the “Grelle is trans” camp. I still avoid pronouns, but yes.

Potential Ghost Game spoilers due to new DiMs that were announced?? And GG speculation

Okay so Bandai had announced these two new DiMs that’re coming out, which, okay, sure, nothing fancy, nothing unusual, they’re making lots of new DiMs after all and like, Vital Bracelets with Midoriya Izuku on them or some wild shit

But the fun thing is

This thing is branded as Ghost Game

Which means that these two might appear in Ghost Game. Which on its own may not be that wild, but like. Usually, anime-branded merch like this tends to relate to the main characters, right?

So now we have to ask... are we getting a Green Ranger* in Ghost Game? Maybe two, even??

(*Green Ranger/Sixth Ranger = Term comes from Power Rangers but is used in these kinds of kids shows to refer to new party member who joins the group mid-late series, examples include Hikari, Ken, Kouichi, Rei and Yuujin, just to name a few)

It is a trope old as time, so it’s not like it’d be unusual for GG to do the Green Ranger, it’s just that often there’d be maybe a little bit more foreshadowing for a new party member-- well, maybe not foreshadowing, but often shows like these have more minor human characters, enough that you could maybe even speculate who amongst the sidecast could join the main group.

But, right now, Ghost Game doesn’t really have minor characters like that? Like there’s Nomura, Aoi and... Mika? (I absolutely had to look up their names) But none of them really seem like potential candidates, maybe Aoi, MAYBE, but the other two..?

Like, it’s not like in Tamers where Hirokazu and Kenta made sense, or it’s not like Appmon with Ai or Watson, where had either of those become Appli Drivers, it would’ve made sense, since they would’ve been characters we had known for a long time and all. Hell, there’s a reason people like to associate the other four spirits from Frontier with the leftover kids

But GG doesn’t really do supporting cast, it’s much more focused on the MotW episodic vibes. And that leaves me a little concerned? IDK, I think I would like it if the hypotetical characters were built up more before hand, because without any foreshadowing... we’re going to end up going into an episode one day and they introduce a new member to the party and if not handled right, it’s gonna feel like wack, and I’m kind of concerned about that.

I do feel like, if the kids just kind of show up with their VBs already in hand like Uver had delivered them to the kids directly from Hiro’s dad, that could add to the whole mystery of what’s going on, but yeah, it just depends on how the writing handles it

But I’ve been just talking about the possibility that we could get a Green Ranger in GG. It’s possible we might not get a Green Ranger at all! So who/what is the deal with these two then?

Well, there’s one very Interesting Detail about the evolution tree Espimon has going on for them.

Epismon seems to tie to the Ludomon evolution tree here, like an alternative evolution path, so we have understandable shield-based Digimon and the mechs and what not

BUT THEN UVER IS RIGHT FUCKING THERE

SO, what might it be that’s happening right here?

Either there is a 6th ranger, and their partner is the same Uver we’ve seen already so many times. Hell, for all we know, it could be Hiro’s dad (although that would be anticlimactic), but yeah, the Uver we know has a partner out there somewhere waiting to be revealed

Well.

How do I put this.

What if... Gammamon had to... go away for a while... And Hiro and co have to go save his ass from his edgy side? What Digimon would Hokuto send to his son on his quest to save his baby brother?

What if Hiro is going to get another partner for this mission? What if that’s fucking Uver aka Epismon??

Hell, why not two, he could have Ryudamon too, I don’t think Kiyo or Ruri would want or need Ryudamon. Or who knows, maybe there is a Green Ranger but only for Ryudamon and Epismon goes to Hiro.

people tend to associate desires - the abstract things that motivate us to act - and happiness - a good 'desirable' state of mind. i think often it feels like the logic goes that if you want something, you at least think you'll feel happy if you get it. i don't think that's necessarily true though. wants or desires (and other modal verbs like shoulds and musts) seem to be the fundamental object, the part that... we can explain them in the sense that we have some idea how to inculcate them but when actually confronted with them, they're inexplicable, monolithic, all you get is the force pushing you towards something.

this ties into sexuality i guess in terms of the fact that things people want are only loosely coupled to the pleasurable state of 'orgasm'. many years ago i saw a clip from an animated comedy series called the venture brothers in which the villain of the week is a burglar who turns out to be a tech fetishist. one of the characters remarks that 'he can only get off when he's surrounded by machines' or something like that. so as a rational actor he puts into play a plan to achieve the desirable state. this seems to have it the wrong way round: the fetishes have motivating power even if they are unlikely to lead to orgasm, although chasing them may make it stronger and more satisfying?

i don't want to overstate this... if you feel like you want to idk, have wax dripped on you, and you try it and it sucks, you'll probably not want it so much anymore. but i guess it's like... a matter of framing. like, saying 'you generally want to achieve pleasure so you act rationally on your desires on the belief that they're signals of how to achieve that', vs 'you want certain things no matter the result and when you act on these desires, you may experience pleasure that reinforces them'.

this may sound like sophistry, but the reason i end up thinking along these lines is, i find myself constantly caught in the wind of conflicting motivations. i see an impressive animation, and i want to create a similar picture; i read an insightful piece of writing and i want to cultivate a similar insight; i think about the gacha game and i want to make the numbers go up. if my former landlord says something false to claim the deposit, i want to correct him. in many cases, there is no rational way to think this will lead to happiness. most obviously, if i play the gacha game, i will probably feel frustrated and disappointed in myself. but equally well, if one day i learn to animate as well as weilin zhang or shinya ohira or bahi jd or mitsuo iso or create independent films as well as jonni phillips or vewn or telepurte, will i be happier? would i feel satisfied at any point? it seems very unlikely. yet this does not weaken the compulsion by any means; if i imagine various possible futures the one in which i spend a lot of time animating and creating things and 'improving' seems like the one i feel most 'true to my idea of myself' if i can pull it off, but there will clearly never come a point where I'll be so good that i can pat myself on the back and relax and feel happy about it. unless i learn to do that as an entirely separate skill which i have no idea how to cultivate.

it occurs to me that the point where i felt happiest in the last few years was the month i spent in America. it felt like the pressure was off for a bit. if i was a rational actor pursuing happiness then i would pretty much just seek to earn enough money to go out there again as quickly as possible. but there are many other things i feel it's important to do to live a good life, other wants and other loyalties, not that I'm really doing a very good job at holding up any of them.

this is why i say they're inscrutable. i just have this vague inexplicable feeling of what is important and what i want to be doing, which is not considered, and often seems to actively resist conscious planning. idk if that's just the Human Condition or the brain disease they label 'adhd'. either way i can't really explain why i do anything i do. like why am i lying in bed writing about this rather than going to the shops and doing some drawing or work? i can invent stories but often it seems my 'conscious mind' is just along for the ride, a helpless observer like biwa in heike monogatari. anyway none of this is new, i guess I'll just keep itching at it, it's about as pointless as any other activity

I did, and not really impressed. 

The African special... where in Africa? It’s ultra white just to vaguely say Africa. Even the American special was specific about where it happens. Same for the South American special that’s going to be set in Brazil. Maybe its a case he doesn’t have a specific place picked out yet, but by choice of wording has issues. 

And what’s with them and having black characters associated with white/lighter colorations. The worst was the black girl in the NY special going all white. And now another hero with an all white costume, which looks like onsie pjs with a belt and bracelet how uninspired are you with girl costumes?! Also not a fan of her hair being that long. That is grabbable. Also, with their track record with black heroes, is her skin color naturally that color or is it lighter than what she naturally has? Every new black kid I gotta question that. 

And before I saw that she’s for a special, I actually thought that this is maybe Alya and a new miraculous for her; I wasn’t crazy about Alya with the fox anymore after seeing RR in action. It didn’t feel like a good fit with her in terms of her character. What I see with the fox, better with cunning and subtlety and Alya herself is far more straightforward. It’s not a bad idea for her to get a miraculous to help her learn to be more subtle, but she also needs something with a little more aggression to it, and fox doesn’t have that. Tiger or goat I was actually thinking for her but was open to roll with lion before I saw what this new character is for. 

And I am so mixed if I would’ve preferred this be Alya with a new miraculous; cause on one hand, it’s good to include more diverse characters, particularly characters with dark skin; but we also already have a huge roster of characters, and the ones they have aren’t being developed (outside Chloe who ultimately was a big waste of episodes), and that implies that these new ones aren’t really going to get attention or development making them pointless in their creation and existence. Unless we’re going to get like, spin off series of these new heroes? Miraculous Adventures in New York? Brazil? Wherever in Africa this is happening? 

Either way, at most, I’m mildly curious for Lady Lion (and why not just do Lady or Queen Lioness? Or is she supposed to be like, gender neutral or nonbinary and is going between two gender pronouns? ...though that’s probably over speculating), but over all I’m not excited. They are adding in too many characters and too many miraculouses. And a lot of these will be pointless outside the special and we can’t be certain we will see them again. They’ll have too many characters to pick from and develop; and with their track record, they’ll stick to spoiled white kids as the main focus. Making a lot of these heroes and are here to just get brownie points for making poc heroes without really caring to include and develop them. 

Alya hasn’t gotten the same amount of attention as Chloe. 

Nino is barely a character. 

If they’re not interested in their two major supporting kids of color and were more interested in the rich white bully, why should I be excited or have faith in how they’ll handle this new girl?

this post is just an amalgamation of my thoughts about the new update so.... sorry???

- the skin tone very clearly points to either hype-chan or josh, but neither of them completely line up no matter what offical art you pull from

- the photo from the site has nails, which lines up with exactly none of the offical sprites  (minus konishi but i highly doubt it's her, and her skin tone is off) or the anime versions which is odd

- the thicker lines and desaturated colours are in line with the game art rather than the anime, which spells out high probablity that it's not anime related news- but it could also be another port which would suck there's also the (very small) chance that it's a new character + a sequel but hhhh i am doubting more and more every day

- considering that the hand is holding a cell phone + not a flip phone, it's most likely meant to be hype-chan but it also means that square could just drop a phone game and call it a day, leaving it just as big a disaster as the 2012 countdown (which,,, egh)

- taking into account the (supposedly plot important idk i haven't finished the game) things that happened at the end of khmom, it could very well be a kh/twewy crossover, and the hand could be a kh character, but then why would they be in the twewy drawing style as opposed to kh’s fancy 3d models like they were in khddd?

IDK what he’d be with Elena, but realistically, I think it would maybe be a friendship of sorts? I think that covers that. I don’t have any ships that are official in threads. However, I do think our Kikyo and Sesshomaru would eventually get down to being a ship.

In fandom, I support Inuyasha/Kagome and Sango/Miroku as it’s canon. In regards to what I like, I do like Sesshomaru/Kagome and Sesshomaru/Kikyo (GET FUCKING REKTED INUYASHA! Don’t be mistaken, I love Inuyasha but I am biased). Sesshomaru and Kagura would be an interesting dynamic to explore more on. I think I’ve seen people state Sesshomaru already loved Kagura when she died and I just-- don’t feel the vibe tbh. I personally think he would’ve needed more time to come to terms with such an emotion. I think it was interest, respect, and familiarity at best at that time. Anyways, I think their dynamic would be very fun as a ship. I’ve seen Sesshomaru and Sango as well and i’m like LE KEK, SURE WHY NOT? Me casually making my muses a ship magnet in fandom? Yes. In RPC? Trash of the Count’s Family

Cale- I am biased, I love the main character, obviously. I just really like Cale. He has some sassy thoughts in his head and I LIVE for that. Additionally, I just find him to be fascinating as a character. I can’t really go into it because it goes into severe spoiler territory, but basically, the way he was integrated into the world he was isekai’ed into is so fascinating to me, especially when you realize there is more to this isekai than we, the readers, are initially led to believe. In regards to emotions, he’s more stagnant than I’m used to in a lot of characters I like, but I don’t hate it? Rather, it fits him well. He’s an ‘unlucky’ dude and I laugh at his misfortune. When you consider angst material—Ohhhh CHEF KISS.

Alberu- BIG BROTHER CROWN PRINCE ALBERU!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love him so much. AHHHHHH He’s such a fun character to me. This sly Prince. He really does care a lot about Cale and it makes me cry. He takes his role as a Prince seriously and puts so much care into the common-folk and he doesn’t discriminate against those of the dark species (Necromancers, dark elves, vampires, etc) which is almost unheard of especially since the most prominent religions are those of the Light. He has a reason for it which I won’t spoil. AHHHH I love him. //sob

Raon Miru- BABY DRAGON!!!!!!! The cutest lil thing who I love to pieces. He was introduced as an abused baby and it hurts me to think about. He hates humans but he sticks around Cale because he’s the human that saved him from being tortured daily. He slowly becomes acclimated to being around humans and grows to trust some. He still hates humans but the ones he’s close to aren’t ‘humans’. They are ‘his people’. I cry. This all-mighty dragon is amazing and can do everything. Bow before his might. I love him. Fite me.

Legend of the Sun Knight

(Lesus) Judgement Knight- Okay, he’s not the main character, but--!!! He’s great. Even though he’s supposed to be at odds with the Sun Knight as they embody different philosophies, they are actually the best of friends in secret. He deals with a lot of Grisia’s (Sun Knight) BULLSHIT, getting him out of trouble. His dynamic with Grisia is just hilarious to me. He’s a calm and collective type. Very serious, not very talkative. He’s the head of the ‘cold-faction’ and his role is to punish sinners in grotesque ways so many fear him but HE’S. A. GOOD. BOI!!!!!!! He just—is so dedicated to his role but mostly Grisia, his best-friend-who-is-not-his-friend. I���M CRY.

(Grisia) Sun Knight- The actual main character of the series. He’s so… HE’S AN INSUFFERABLE LIL TWAT—BUT I LOVE HIM. So sassy and just a lil shit in general. He’s very clever and he’s also what you could consider a genius. I love competency, mmm. He’s HELLA petty. To put it simply, he’s the Sun Knight, who is like the head of the Sun Church. You could say he’s the leader of an entire religion, who worship the God of Light. (If you ever see me type OMGOL, it’s bc I’m typing Oh My God of Light. Fax) There are select knights who are spokespeople for the church and he’s the head of them. All such knights are considered to be ‘brothers’ and he’s very protective of them all. Princess? King? Liche? The world? He don’t give any flying fucks. You touch his knights and he’ll get revenge. BET. I love that level of savagery.

(Neo) Sun Knight- I must say, he doesn’t show up much, but he is just //chef kiss. The special knights I mentioned earlier are roles that get passed down to a new generation. There are 12 in total, and the Sun Knight is the topmost knight. Neo Sun is said to be the best knight in HISTORY aside from the original. His sword skills are legendary and he raised Grisia, the… uh… ‘weakest’ Sun Knight in history. He’s the weakest in sword skill and horse riding skill, but Grisia is the strongest when it comes to magic proficiency. Just Neo’s name can send Grisia into a panic. He is somewhat of a Father for Grisia. A scary one, but one that Grisia cares deeply for. The sacrifices that Neo has made for Grisia is just //sob. He and Lesus both have done so much for Grisia behind the scenes and I’m just--- //cries harder.

Ye Xiu- He is the main character of this novel and ughhh I love him so much. He too, IS A LIL SHIT!!!! He is so insufferable sometimes to his opponents and I LOVE IT. He’s very smart and skilled in what he does. He’s a professional gamer and I don’t understand a thing about games but I only need to know that he’s wicked good lol. He’s very dedicated to Glory, the game that he was a professional gamer for. He kinda… got ousted out by the team he FOUNDED. He says that he’ll get back into the professional association and take another championship. The novel centers around him and you watch as he sets out to complete a specific goal in mind in honor of a certain someone.

Huang Shaotian- A talkative dumbass. I love him. He is such PUPPY ENERGY. He bothers Ye Xiu a lot with his highkey energy. He’s extremely talented and he is known for his trash talking. He talks ridiculously fast and he’s just so--- insufferable in another way lol. I love him for it. He doesn’t always think before he talks and it gets him into trouble. Even though they are on opposing teams, he is quite fond of Ye Xiu and after finding out Ye Xiu suddenly retired (ie he was forced out of his team), he was very concerned for him. He even travelled to come talk to him and do him a favor. He was like: Old Ye, if you ever need anything, just ask! I’ll help! THIS. GOOD. BOI!!!!!!!!!! He’s really just a big idiot sometimes. “Hey, Shaotian, where are you?” “Oh, I’m xxxxxx.” “Oh? That’s where a boss spawns. I’ll be there.” Who just—he legit just gave intel to Ye Xiu about a boss monster spawn to an enemy guild. He is just too honest and ready to answer to Ye Xiu. You can tell he really respects Ye Xiu despite what trash talk he spouts. Ye Xiu IS the God of Glory, after all.

Han Wenqing- IN COMING YE XIU’S OLD RIVAL FOR YEARS!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH They just--- I’M CRY. They have such history with each other, constantly butting head with each other in game/tournaments. They don’t have a dynamic where they look at each other and just cuss each other out or what have you. They genuinely respect each other and wouldn’t mind hanging out with each other in private. They are both captains of their own respective teams and the fans of their teams are mortal enemies lol. Han Wenqing and Ye Xiu are both older players and you really get to see the struggles older players face in the tough gaming industry. He’s a responsible captain and he is so respectable. He’s so great. I love him too. The dynamic he has with Ye Xiu is--- //crying

Haki Headcanons

Observation Haki = Variations of Blue = I know that the use of Observation Haki on the One Piece anime is typically cued by a flare of red in the characters eye. But that’s only when the Haki is being consciously used.

Example A:

Idk, but for some reason Red doesn’t seem like the eye color that would indicate an affinity for/predisposition for Observation Haki.

When I think of the reason why I have this headcannon, I think of Sanji. I read somewhere that Oda has given each of the Monster Trio a speciality in terms of Haki. Luffy would be capable of all three types of Haki, but he would be especially proficient in Conquerors Haki. Just as Zoro would have a proficiency in Armarment Haki and Sanji would have proficiency in Observation Haki.

All that is to say, when I think of Observation Haki, I think of Sanji, and when I think of Sanji, I think of the color blue. Why do I associate him with the color blue? Multiple reasons. There’s the Baratie, that pastel-painted restraint on the sea. There’s the various Blue-collared shirts he wears pre-time skip (I’m particularly partial to the lavender-blue pinstriped shirt he has, but that’s neither here nor there).

But more than his background and general aesthetic, blue just seems to fit his personality. That cool, level headed intelligence he has when faced with a difficult problem. No matter the heightened emotions around him, Sanji maintains a clear-sighted focus on his goal, and is therefore able to engineer a clever, multi-faceted plans with effective resolutions. His ‘Mr. Prince’ ploy in Alabasta is the most prominent example that comes to mind, as well as his forethought in following CP-9 to the Puffing Tom and his ensuing, unwavering resolve to save Robin on the train ride to Enies Lobby.

The only exception I can think of to this Headcannon is Usopp. If I remember correctly, he is also capable of using Observation Haki, but that’s the only form of Haki he has. It makes sense with his skill as a sniper, but for some reason I can’t see Usopp having blue eyes like Sanji, or any of the other Observation Haki users I HC having blue eyes. Who knows? Maybe that’s another thing that could make him special—that he is stupidly good at Observation Haki, despite everything about his background, aesthetic and personality pointing to the contrary. Yet another way for Usopp to defy expectations. In that case—Go Usopp!

Armament Haki = Variations of Black = because of the Steely-black Sheen that appears most frequently when a character is using Armament Haki.

And what I mean by variations of black is...black with a certain sheen to it, like the iridescence you’d see in a Raven’s wing.

For example: if you are born with both the capacity for Armarment and Observation Haki, but you’re more proficient in the former, then you would have black eyes with a blue sheen to them. Or, ina more complex example—If you were capable of both the types of Haki mentioned above, but you also have a family history of green eyes (in my mind a non-Haki, but versatile eye color), then you would have black eyes with a blue-green eyes. The distinction is subtle, but there.

If a person has proficiency with or an affinity for Armarment Haki, then in my mind that’s gonna be their foundational eye color. Any other Haki they are proficient in, or whatever other eye color features prominently in their family history—that’s only gonna affect the sheen, which is something that only appears under certain emotions/circumstances/lighting.

Now, oddly enough, even though Zoro is stated to be especially proficient in Armarment Haki—I don’t HC him having Ink-black eyes with a blue sheen (which would most likely be the case in this scenario if he were just proficient in Armarment and also capable of Observation Haki). I actually believe he has dark grey eyes with a sharp black outline and a blue sheen.

Now, this is partially due to a screen cap I saw of Zoro when one of the Anniversary episodes/films of the anime was revisiting the Shell Island Arc—his eyes were shone to be almost exactly as I described. (The pic below is the closest I could find to what I’m talking about):

But another component to this HC is because I believe that Zoro also has Conquerors Haki. (As of Sept. 2020, this has not been confirmed). If y’all are interested, I’ll link a video that cites all the reasons I believe Zoro will have Conquers Haki—and be pretty damn good at it too.

Conquerors Haki = Variations of Grey = Speaking of Conqueror’s Haki, part of my explanation for why Zoro has dark grey eyes instead of absolutely black eyes, is because of how the black color signifying proficiency in Armarment Haki would blend/coexist with the grey that I HC represents proficiency in Conquerors Haki—as a sort of dark, steely grey with a prominent ring around the iris (see above).

And honestly? Grey is basically the best explanation I could come up with for when a One Piece character (who typically has nondescript black eyes at first glance) suddenly has a stark ring around their pupil with NO COLOR IN THEIR IRIS!

Seriously, the first time we see Conqueor’s Haki in the series is Shanks doing this:

I don’t know about y’all, but I have never heard of a case (genetic mutation or otherwise) where someone somehow has WHITE IRISES. EVER!!

(Feel free to correct me if it exists, tho. Love to learn new things.)

And so, this Headcannon was born! If you are proficient in Conquerors you are most likely to have grey eyes.

But! Just like with the other sections, If someone is born with the capacity for more than one type of Haki, then the possibile varieties of eye color become a bit more complicated.

Take Luffy, for example. He is shown most frequently with black eyes. The only time this changes is when he’s using Observation Haki (signified by the red flare) or when he’s using Conquerors (in which his eyes appear similar to Shanks).

Granted, with how many times Luffy’s vehement emotions affect the appearance of his eyes, it would make sense if His Conquerors Haki is triggered more frequently on a subconscious/instinctual basis than most other users. But that’s beside the point. (I mean, Luffy is basically a creature of instinct with maybe 2 brain cells to his name. And most of the time he’s sharing custody of said brain cells with Zoro and his brothers).

The point is, Luffy is proficient in Conquerors Haki. He’ll probably be the strongest Conquerors Haki user on the Straw Hat crew, if not eventually the strongest in the world. (The man’s gonna be Pirate King, for Yod’s sake! Gotta be willing to Conquer if you’re gonna be King if anything!)

That being said, seeing how he isn’t shown with Grey-ish irises as frequently as other multi-Haki users in the series (Zoro being the first example that comes to mind) and with how his Armarment Haki has been rapidly improving through Dressrosa, Whole Cake and especially Wano, I would say that Luffy has a high proficiency in Armarment Haki as well. As feisty and physical as he is, Armarment Haki probably makes a bit more sense to him anyway, in some respects. It’s more concrete and he knows its helpful in a one-on-one fight. Meanwhile, extering non-physical will on someone is a more abstract concept to try and wrap his head around.

So, as long as he has a greater understanding/focus on the physical rather than the mental/emotional side of a fight, his eye will probably appear black more often than grey. Despite his inevitable mastery of Conquerors.

If I were a month, I’d be : I have a soft spot for December cause it’s my birth month but, October also has a place in my heart. I love Halloween. My problem is that I love American weather assigned to months. December is Summer in Australia but I love the idea of Winter December and snow. October in my country is Spring so allergy season and also what we call swooping seasons. I adore the ideas of falling orange leaves, pumpkins and soft greens. I think the slight chill in the air and softer colour palette match the kind of month I’d be. So, in short I’d be American Autmn. 

If I were a flower, I’d be: I’ve always adored blue and purple flowers so I’ve been researching flower meanings and also considering the general look of the flowers themselves. So far I appreciate Forget-Me-Nots for their well fairly obvious meaning (remembering those we love who are lost). Cornflowers are my favoutire minecraft flower but the historical association with Nazi’s have kind of pushed me away from picking this one. I evetually decided that based on the meaning of the flower I’d be a blue rose (not a natural rose colour), meaning  “ mystery, the impossible, or the unattainable”. As for looks I’d be a  midnight plum mini calla lily, which is said to symbolise fertility, faithfulness and the part I like rebirth. Best of all the website I used told me that blue roses and midnight plum calla lillies compliment each other. 

If I were an album, I’d be : I have a wide taste in music but I’d say I’d be a dramatic/depressing album, maybe with some hopeful songs but not many. I’m torn between Your City Gave Me Asthma by Wlbur Soot, which while I’m not completely in love with all the songs on that album the general soft vibe matches what I want to acheive and also any Cavetown album, I’m leaning towards Sleepyhead but literally Aminal Kingdom and Lemonboy also call to me. 

If I were a mineral, I’d be : I was intending to do a lot more research but, one caught my eye almost immedietly with both the meaning, the historical significance as well the meaning amonst those who deal with crystals and the look of the gem itself. Technically it’s not a mineral but a rock but, I’m putting it down anyway. The most common term for them are apache tears, which are rounded pebbles of obsidian. Spiritually they are apparently used for overcoming depression, bringing greif to the forfront to be dealth with and allows people to  reach a “state of self-realization”. Historically they are named for a tribe of Native Americans who rather then be captured ran after losing a battle, rode their horses off a cliff. 

If I were a sound, I’d be :  the gasping breath before a sob

If I were a colour, I’d be :   #7f1734 ‘Claret’ A deep shade of red that pairs well with darker colours or greys. Interestingly enough my shade and colours I associate with my friends don’t quite fit but neither do any of their colours with the others and yet I love that. 

If I were a drink, I’d be : Something cherry flavoured that’s an acquired taste. If I were an alchohol I’d be, not by choice but if I just were one, I’d be sambuca (a strong flavour that only certain people like). 

If I were a fruit, I’d be : I was stuck reading into fruit appearing in myths but I’ll settle for plum. 

If I were a quote, I’d be :  I don’t remember a lot of quotes particularly long ones.   have a bad memory. I’d like to say I’d be a Pride and Prejudice quote but I don’t think I’m worthy of Austin. I was trying to think of a suitable fandom quote maybe “It was never meant to be” from the Dream smp or “I don’t want to go” from Doctor Who but I think I’ll pick a song lyric. Of course I went straight to Cavetown. “ I wanna make a colour that no one else has seen before. I wanna be so much more.” This is the one that I picked. Though there are so many. He just makes me feel things, sometimes I am so calm listening to him but then sometimes I’m balling my eyes out. 

If I were a television series, I’d be : I want to pick a good one but I don’t think I’m worthy. Maybe a non problematic Gotham but that’s just me projecting. Actually maybe I’d be ‘I Am Not Okay With This’, a beautiful show cancelled for budget cuts after covid but has beautiful representations of mental health, non toxic masculinity and lgbt teens. I think I’d be something that has brillaint gay characters at the very least because that’s very important to me. 

If I were a movie, I’d be : Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It’s brilliant and just my niche. 

If I were a fashion brand, I’d be : Probably a really cheap one that makes sizes for bigger people cause I know the pain of nothing pretty ever fitting.

If I were a mythological creature, I’d be :  I love Medusa but creature wise I’d be Bastet from Merlin. I’ve been obsessed with the winged panther creature for years. here’s what Gaius says about the species  “ The writers of old called this creature a Bastet. A monster of nightmare that inhabits the twilight world between the living and the dead”. 

If I were a taste, I’d be : An acquired one

If I were a scent, I’d be :  Sweet and floral, just enough to entice someone into asking about it but not overly sickly sweet

If I were a fabric, I’d be :  I want to say silk but I think I’d be leather or velvet. Like the pretty leather that one can make pants out of. 

If I were a body part, I’d be :  Back cause I carry a lot of stress

If I were a song: This is difficult. I might pick a Cavetown song but I lean towards She by Dodie Clark. I do like many Cavetown songs but I’ll put down Fool (I am currently listening to it and I just adore it both lyric wise and music wise). Idk either I’d be song about anxiety or being closeted.

If I were a god/goddess, my four attributes would be :  Comfort (I’d want to be Goddess who is there for the vunerable and able to both provide and inspire comfort in self), Attachments (I’d like people to pray for strong platonic attachments to people and animals), Anxiety (I’m a firm believer in the devine having positive and negative traits, I feel like this is a defining traits and the opposite of comfort but that doesn’t mean that people can’t take aspects like overanalysing.) and my final trait would be loss (the other foil to my trait. When to let go of attachments and dealing with loss whether death or other causes).

And so, another year has come to pass.....almost. ^  ^

Remember when i said i was branching away from Digimon back when i drew up Venom fanart? y’know, “I wanted to be more than what i used to be.” that being “a Digimon artist.”

2019 was basically just that. lots and lots and LOTS of fandom hopping.

If last year was me recovering from the pain and crippling anxiety of 2017, then this year was me finally getting up again, learning to stand up and live for myself rather than in fear of those i shouldn’t care about anymore. life still hasn’t been too kind to me even though, compared to last year, we’re in a better space. but i’ll get into more detail about that while i go through everything month by month on the clock.

January: On the Web

Coming out of 2018, things were pretty ok if i remember. i don’t remember much from this month aside from a few doodles i did like this one from when Spiderverse was the hottest thing. this was one of the last things i drew in my old style. before i decided to officially change things up in the next month.

February: Gotta Kick it Up

Pokemon Sword & Shield were announced and things were hype! oh, how things soured as the months went by. lol

But yeah, this was me taking that experimental sketchy pencil style from that Smash Bros. drawing and rolling with it all the way! it’s become my new go-to style and even though it’s still hella sketchy at times, i feel like it looks better in comparison to my old ink outlined drawings.

March: The Overdrive Dweebanoids

Oh right. my old Ben 10 phase that lasted for a millisecond in 2016 returned with a vengeance. and it was glorious. lmao

It spawned an AU that i didn’t delve into much, but if i ever get that spark for my favorite alien watch bearer, i’ll get back to it.

April: True Blue Lizard Bois

My Ben 10 streak continues and i was crankin’ out art left and right for it. i luved all the “doodle dumps” i made, but this drawing was wholesome and i picked it because of that.

To some extent, this could be a comparison between my past and my present. that being Overdrive!Ben being what, at the time, was my current obsession while Digimon!Vivi was a representation of where i used to be, back when i was starting out and entering Digimon OCTs on Deviantart.

May: Return to the Realm of Sleep ~HD ReMIX

Now THIS i feel was one of the grandest drawings i’ve done this year. hell, i even made a wallpaper out of it.

like, it was just a redraw of an old drawing from 2017. but to me, it was a way to tell me just how far i’ve come since then. and i couldn’t be happier.

This was also the month i rebooted my DA after a long time of inactivity!

....Iiiit didn’t really work much, but i’m still working on it. though i highly doubt it’s worth it considering most of the ones i used to hang with there are either people i don’t wanna associate with or people who left while i was gone. seriously, it’s a ghost town there.

June: Art Fight 2019 ~Dreams Vs. Nightmares~

Ahh, my second year of Art Fight. for this year’s event, i wanted to be a tad more grandiose. like drawing up this banner. i like being extra and stuff even if it kills my drawing hand, so yeah. lmao

Florida thunderstorms are friggin’ terrifying. idk HOW anyone can get used to that.

July: - BREAK DOWN -

Oookay, it was hard picking my favorite attack this year cuz i pretty much was satisfied with all of them. but i had to go with this attack because the artist i drew it for was someone i really admired for years and i’m just happy i could finally have an opportunity to draw them something. like, i luv how it came out, so yeah.

This was also the month i forced myself to finally do the thing and let go of the constant fear i felt towards certain people i used to hang with. while remembering 2017 will never NOT hurt, i can’t let that fear rule over me forever. i have to take control and not let it stop me from doing what i want. and that’s exactly what i did.

August: Ricky ~Sapphire, Emerald and AlphaSapphire

Oh yeah! after Art Fight ended, i returned to Pokemon randomly cuz i wanted to go back to my roots for a moment. revamping Ricky, formerly Ragna, and Yagami was something i’ve been meaning to do for awhile and it reignited a waning love for a series i started growing distant towards since Gen VII.

I used to really like Ricky’s old design even though i barely ever used him. but i guess this just shows how much more original i’ve gotten in terms of character design. ^  ^

September: Heartbeat Inferno

Now, i haven’t really talked much about what’s been going on life wise for most of this post, but trust me when i say irl, things weren’t really.....happening. like, it’s hard when you live (or rather, lived now) in a place with little job opportunity and you have NO experience whatsoever. the lack of progression must’ve hit something in me, so the week i drew this was me just....shifting moods, feeling everything at once. one day i’d be agitated as hell, the next i’d be so depressed i took a some odd hour nap and didn’t wanna get out of bed. like, for most of this year, i haven’t felt this stressed out and frustrated with myself. so this sudden crash was kind of....unwelcome.

But this drawing was a fresh change though, if i’m being honest. i’m not usually this uncaring about how clean the coloring job is, but i like it! i’d choose that other drawing i did for my friends’ birthdays, Skirmish at the Cable Club, but this one had a more personal drive behind it.

October: - PAPERMOON -

Continuing with my Pokemon shenanigans, i drew this big piece which was something i had in my head for years now, but never actually acted upon it cuz i always felt it was too big of an idea to work on. i’m happy i’ve managed to capture what i envisioned originally.

As for interests, i’m sure most of my current followers can deduce that i quickly shifted gears to Beastars as soon as the anime was released and so far, i regret nothing. it’s spawned a metric butt ton of new art from me and the way i see it, this phase ain’t stopping as long as this series continues. brace yourselves fam, i believe i’ve finally found the successor to my Digimon phase. lmao

Like, damn, i had a tough time choosing art for this month. i was stuck between this, - SMILE/WILD SIDE - and Slip Into Madness. so many good drawings i was satisfied with, y’know?

November: The Future is Now

I was SO planning on putting something else here, but then suddenly i just kinda had this urge to redraw that uggo gouache painting of Miyagi from highschool. and it turned out so good that i had to. like, really. lmao

As with the redraw of Dream Drop Digital’s key art, it was a reminder of how far i’ve come since then art wise. and i feel like i’ve accomplished so much this year because of it. ;w;

December: Winter Lights

And now we’re back to the present time. after over a year or so of living in Florida, we’ve moved once again back up north a bit. yet another clean slate, but things seem to be looking up despite the rather large bumps in the road the past week or so. lately i’ve been feeling that seasonal depression starting to set in, but i think i’ll be fine as long as i stay positive. cuz y’know, it’s not being happy all the time. it’s just knowing that things will get better someday.

One of the other reasons i drew this drawing was cuz i REALLY wanted to have something Beastars related on this clock. this series (and Legoshi in particular) really inspired me, so i had to leave a wedge open for my boi.

Looking back at the beginning of this decade (as 2020 would mark the next one), i realized that the 2010′s were basically me becoming more artsy. finding enjoyment for a new hobby that quickly became something i’m now more passionate about than video games which i didn’t think would EVER be the case.

Funny enough, it all started in the RP section of a little forum for an MMO called Wizard101. i was only in middle school at the time and, to tell you the truth, i had no idea i’d be going at it for this long. thought i’d just do it on the side but not really delve into the art world more.

But despite all the trips and falls, fandom drama or otherwise, i wouldn’t change anything if it meant i wouldn’t have the friends who’ve stuck by me in the aftermath of those times.

I may not be really succeeding in much, but it’s the small steps in life that matter most in the end. these past few months in particular was me getting fed up with feeling sorry for myself for not doing the things i was interested in in the past, getting over my regret and making plans for starting something new even though i know i’ll suck at first and not worrying so much about how others might perceive me.

And just like how life was changing for our resident grey wolf this first season, mine seems to be doing the same. and i believe this decade ended on a better note than i thought it would during the past couple years leading up to this.
