I love both of these sketches but with uni stuff and zine work January 31 crept up on me and before I knew it the current Bingo round is almost over…
For the @cap-ironman Stony Bingo, squares “at warp speed” and “art format: redraw an old piece” (for which I chose my first Avengers Assemble work)!
I will hopefully finish these at some point, at the very least the one with Captain Americat and Iron Mouse. I can’t get over Steven’s zigzag tail. Somehow I surprise myself every time I draw this cat.
#stevetony#stony#stony bingo#sketch#I’m so mad at myself for not finishing these in time#idk how other people produce pretty sketches#my pretty sketches are almost lineart and take me ages#idk if these even fit fit the event but the minimum requirement just said no manips so I hope they do???#rest assured I spent a good amount of time on these#especially the first#cartoony is certainly not easy for me#marvel#my art#fandom event

is it chill if i show yall my yandere ocs ‼️
i have to revamp their designs and give them names, but i’ll list what/who they are rn from oldest to newest with brief descriptions priest: his name was originally fernando as a joke but i never really liked it/it never quite fit, i also made him back in like 2019; he's like kinda a cult leader who made a deal with the devil but he originally wasn't like that (think villain and violent, infant and innocent vibes). he's mostly nonchalant, but when he's around the person he loves (which is an angel in disguise as a detective trying to figure out who tf is doing all these fucked up sacrifices cause there's a little too much souls missing in heaven rn), he goes absolutely BONKERS, all teethy-smiles and giddy. he's still batshit insane though since the deal and his background made his head all fucked up lol minotaur: khristopher (yeah i'm also not into his name it's getting changed LMAO), made in 2021; he's a rancher, very hostile and antisocial so he kinda lives very isolated away from people, so yk that already makes him desperate for any sort of romantic affections. kinda has his moments of flirtiness, but it comes off as sleazy. he's rarely ever seen in public unless he's selling his farm produce in the farmer's market every sunday, but he gets some good sales in since his juice products are pretty popular. werewolf 1: sung-jae yeon (his name is being kept), also made in 2021; he's a singer/actor that got turned into a werewolf (which he hides surprisingly well as a famous person) and though he may seem to be kind, he's actually a big egotistical asshole that does whatever he wants when he wants because of the amount of fame and wealth he has. he's also kinda goofy in the way rafayel is from love and deepspace is iykwm siren/merman: pollux agineus (his name is also being kept), also made in 2021; he's a professional surfer who's seemingly the shyest and gets flustered so easily around the one he loves BUT THAT SHITS ACTUALLY A FACADE he's so mindlessly possessive that he'll literally try to cannibalize his love cause he thinks that's normal to do (in his species), and his short temper isn't something to mess with either. he's a mean mf fr
werewolf 2: this guy i had a dream about back in late 2021 after those three above and he was originally a viking werewolf, but i meshed him into sung-jae's lore and he became the one that turned him into a werewolf (on accident). never gave him a name but he's a feral werewolf (born one), meaning that he's way bigger and tougher than sung-jae's werewolf form. there's not much about him other than him being stoic and gruff, saying barely saying anything because he also doesn't know how to speak any human language, so you're basically constantly being slung onto his shoulder and doing whatever he wants you to do.
idk how to describe this one since it's like a regular dude: levyathan "levy" sampson miller YES HIS NAME IS THAT LMAO I MADE IT PURPOSELY LIKE THAT and i made him last year. COMPLETE SCUMBAG, AN MISOGYNISTIC GAMER INCEL, THE WORST OF THE WORSTTTTT AND he's in a mechanical engineering major. he's so disgustingly depraved and decrepit that if i ever post the concept sketches i did for him, you can fs tell he smells like sweat and monster energy drinks. he literally has no interest in irl women EXCEPT his best friend's (yeah it's really surprising he has one, i'll go into it later) girlfriend, that's how fucked up he is. i had to get some of my friends' opinions on how to make the worst man ever and here he is LMAO also he’s into his best friend, but he’s so in denial of being bi that it affects their relationship (not completely cause there’s other factors)
uhh yeah that's about it that i want to share, there's like a small handful that aren't mentioned but i wanted to keep those to myself since they're like sorta niche and personal ig lol i'll get to drawing them maybe next week since i wanted to try out my new drawing program 😈

Ok story time! A story how my OC Heidi came to be. Check it under the cut if you're interested, otherwise enjoy these sketches of a fantasy royal family.
Warnings: infidelity, infertility
So Mariam, as the queen, is married quickly so she can produce heirs. She choses Othos or Othos is chosen for her. The first picture is their wedding portrait.
When they're young, Otho has to go on longer trips sometimes because of his work. Sometimes, but not always, Mariam has to stay behind to take care of her duties. They do not get pregnant immediately after the wedding.
Mariam is a beautiful young queen, surrounded by a lot of people. Unlike some royals, however, she also gets time alone, and not there is not someone always following her. During her time alone, while missing Otho (and their bed), she meets a fairy soldier. He's been around before, so Mariam is not completely unfamiliar with him, but they've never talked. Somehow they have a chance. Maybe Mariam is sulking in a garden and the man is doing is rounds around the yard. Idk.
They get along really well. Mariam doesn't think anything of it to spend time with him, and as you already probably guesses, they end up in bed. Or on the grass in the garden. Or behind a convenient heavy curtain somewhere. You know.
Othos returns pretty soon and when Mariam turns out to be pregnant, it is a joy for everyone. Mariam stops thinking about the fairy soldier she had an affair with and throws herself into celebrating the coming of an heir to the throne of Rozavie.
Heidi is born. She is a pretty young girl child, with blonde hair and dark blue eyes like her parents. Nothing seems amiss.
Until Heidi grows a little, and starts showing magic. Magic she shouldn't have.
You see, both Mariam and Othos are wizards. Wizarding magic is very different to fairy magic. While wizards always need some sort of an object to channel their magic through, fairies need none of that. Fairy children especially are very carefree and easy with their magic.
It is very clear to everyone in the know that Heidi is most certainly not Othos' child. Both Mariam and Othos come from long lines, all of which have been marked down carefully. Wizardry is the highest valued magic in Rozavie, and practically everyone in their lines are wizards.
I have not thought this far yet but I think they will make up an affair somewhere up in Othos' line which would explain why Heidi is a fairy, so there is no scandal. However, that does not heal her parents relationship, and it turns chilly for years. They halfheartedly try for more children, but they do not conceive.
(The problem is Othos, unfortunately. I'm not sure if they ever find out, but there definitely are people who suspect.)
When Heidi is a teenager, Mariam and Othos finally make up. This time they throw each other more passionately into making children, in hopes of getting a boy child. While Heidi is and will be the legal heir, they are hoping to trade her with a boy. It is the latest fashion, after all. They do not believe Heidi would be a popular queen, or a strong one.
(They are wrong.)

Aforementioned long ask post please excuse me while i try to figure out tumblr's new text editor. I’ll get into the art meme questions first and then the rest at the end.
Ok first of all thank you all for sending in questions! Giving me an excuse to talk hehe. I’ll address these in number order. Here’s a link to the ask meme for reference but also I’ll restate the question for ease of reading.
1. When did you get into art?
Super cliche answer but I don’t remember a time where I WASN’T the weird art kid! I started keeping a dedicated sketchbook when I was about 12? But here’s a page from my kindergarten journal about what I want to be when I grow up.
2. What art-related sites have you ever signed up for?
LOL this is a weird question. Not sure why so many people want to know. Anyways I definitely had a dA. more than one dA account. I used to browse oekakis when I was a kid but I think I was only signed up to some small ones that internet friends owned. What else...? Mangabullet,Tegakie, Paintberri, iscribble back when that was a thing, instagram if that COUNTs, I used to post art on livejournal and dreamwidth too. Patreon, I guess. Gumroad, inprnt, bigcartel, storenvy all for selling stuff.
In terms of resources.. I have a schoolism account that I’m sharing with friends. Used to take classes on coursera for free. I signed up to textures.com for work recently haha. I can’t remember if I ever had an account on posemaniacs. Did they have accounts...? I definitely used to visit all the time.
3. Show us your oldest piece of art you have on hand.
Alright here’s me actually logging into my old deviantart account. These are from September 2008 So I was 13 years old. I don’t have a deviantart account from before then because 13 was the required age for having an account and I didn’t want to lie about my age because I wanted people to be impressed by how young yet clearly incredible at art I was LOL.
4. What defines your artistic style?
You guys are probably more equipped to answer this than me but uh... I wanna say... Focus on colors. And... a slightly heavy hand? Like confident... not always well-considered mark making HAH...
Also I think I have a pretty healthy mix of american comics/manga influences. I feel like people who are into american comics always think my art is too manga and people who are into anime/manga always think my art is too american. And I’m taking that as a good sign.
5. Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?
I like to think I switch it up a bunch! I mean, these are pretty different, right?
I think I’ve mentioned this before but one thing I really took away from art school is that, for an illustrator at least, art style shouldn’t be consistent. Your greatest weapon is changing the aspects of your style based on the task, the emotions and message you want to illustrate etc. So depending on the project I’m working on, the fandom I’m drawing for, whether I want something to be funny or serious or dramatic, I’ll change things about my style all the time.
One thing I don’t rly post on here is really tight polished work and that’s because I do that for my day job haha. If you’re not paying me... I’m probably not gonna color in the lines.
6. What levels of artistic education have you had?
I have a whole ass diploma LOL. Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. from the Rhode Island School of Design. And I had a great college experience tbh. Besides the student loans. If any of you guys are thinking about art school feel free to e-mail or message me questions or concerns, I’ll be happy to help. Be as honest as I can be.
7. Show us at least one picture you drew or sketched recently that you did not put on a public site.
heres the wandavision kids. Uhh what else do I have...I feel like I’m rummaging for loose change here...
assorted valentines prep doodles
8. What is your favourite piece that you have done?
Well, obviously this is gonna change all the time and generally it’s gonna be my most recent piece LOL. So yeah, why the hell not. I’ll say it’s this one. I have a pretty short memory which I count as a blessing for an artist. I don’t dwell that long on older work and it keeps me moving forward.
10. What do you like most about your art?
I like that it’s something that only I would make! I had this thought fairly recently and I wrote it down in my sketchbook, it’s pretty cheesy and rambling but it felt revolutionary at the time:
So yeah. I like my art best when it’s the most me and for me. And I like it least when it feels like I’m just making something for social media or for other people’s expectations or whatever.
14. What do you like drawing the most?
Kids in baggy clothing are like my go-to LOL idk if that’s obvious. but also I like being challenged so lately I’ve really loved drawing multi-character compositions, environments, weird angles, etc.
oh i LOVE drawing the underside of shoes lol. And bandages. People that are kinda beat up.. I think it comes from getting a bunch of cuts all the time. I’m always patching myself up and I want to patch characters up too.
15. What do you like drawing the least?
mmm I try to find something to like in every drawing but lets see... I don’t like doing commissions of people’s dogs. Just because it’s normally like... a family friend and my mom volunteered me without my consent and I don’t even really know what they’re expecting me to draw and I don’t even get to meet the dog. Also I’m not that great at dog anatomy. Trying to learn though.
18. What is your purpose for drawing?
This could have a million answers! Uhhh to GIT GOOD??? But also to express myself... and also to make money... I mean it depends on what the drawing IS. I draw fanart mostly to connect to people in the fandom so if you ever see me drawing fanart please take it as like an open invitation to talk to me about the character haha.
20. How would you rank your art? (poor, mediocre, good, etc.)
Good!!! I have a lot of self-confidence primarily born out of ignorance and a short attention span. If I don’t think too hard about how many other artists are mindblowingly unfathombly good... its easy to think I’m good too! LOL
In all seriousness though, I think the opinion a person has of their art is like a crazy balancing act, right? Like you have to think you suck enough to want to get better but also you have to think you’re good enough to not want to give up. I think we’re all walking that line, I know I am! But also I’m a glass half-full type of person so. Most of the time I feel good about it.
22. List at least one of your “artspirations.”
This is a good question because I’ve been trying and failing to put together one of those “influence map” memes for like a full month now. What’s giving me a hard time is I feel like none of these are actually really obvious “““influences”““ in my art? Like it’s hard to see a lot of them in the work I make...? But idk maybe you guys’ll see what I can’t.
And these are just a couple! God there’s so many more. I could talk about other artists for ages, from all different genres of art. Daumier, Rockwell like every illustrator out there, Dana Gibson, Alex Toth, Hiroshi Yoshida, a lot of the Brandywine School. Lots of current working artists too, Karl Kerschl, frikkin Masashi Kishimoto lol, Jake Wyatt, Richie Pope, Edouard Caplain, Matt Cook, Sachin Teng, - lots of big internet artists, Sophie Li, Freddy Carrasco, Milliofish, Angela Sung... like all my friends from art school too. I could just keep going but I’ll stop for now lol.
24. Do you have a shameful art past? (recolour sprite comics, tracing art, etc.)
I mean if that’s how we’re defining shameful?? sure LOL. It’s not sprite comics but I used to do pokemon sprite recolors all the time. And I used to trace manga panels and color them... Granted this was all when I was like under 12 yrs old so it’s not even embarrassing. Can you really call it shameful when a 7 year old wets the bed or whatever? Not really. In fact some of these are cool as fuck. Look
25. Draw a picture!
Man I’m so tired now but here.
I used to get a lot of compliments for drawing people smiling lol but I don’t think I’ve drawn a lot of smiling lately.. here’s proof I’ve still got it.
OK MEME DONE. onto the rest.
I read this ask first thing when i opened my computer in the morning and it made me really emotional.. I’m so glad my sketches could help you!!
I think a lot of artists on social media talk about the struggle of making art but imo not enough people talk about the joy! Like I know it’s corny but. I really meant what I said at the beginning of that sketchbook about re-contextualizing art around process and progress > product and perfection. I think its super important..! The strength of messy, unfinished, and energetic art! For the feeling of it, for the love it!
That's crazy!!! I hope you like 'em. The whole line of x-books is really good rn imo.
Hi! I totally have the answer for digital stuff on my faq lol. But in terms of drawing on paper.. it varies! I tend to use sketchbooking and any on-paper doodling I do as a way to loosen up/warm-up or experiment. But right now my go-to aresenal is:
from top > bottom
- kuretake no.55 doublesided brush pen
- tombow fudenosuke
- muji 0.38 ballpoint
- medium size poscas
- grey tombow double brush pens
- good ol bic mechanical pencil
not EXACTly sure which inking you referring to from my sketchbook but if I had to take a guess it'd probably be the kuretake no55. That's been my main inker, lately. Great for sketching with the thin end too.
You can print out and eat my art if you like. Just please don't mass produce or re-sell. <3
Thanks! I've come to accept that my art is always gonna be sort of gestural and painty naturally. It's getting it to tighten up enough to be legible that's hard lol...
uh yeah lol I agree actually. I think yolei is great.
I assume these asks are related? LOL
1) Yeah totally true. I love David.
2) I don’t take requests, sorry! But if you want to commission me to draw Legion i would be MORE than happy to. Just e-mail me at [email protected].

ok so on twitter i see a lot of sketch vs final piece posts, and they’re honestly rly cool (i LOVE being able to see the process of other artists)... but a part of me can’t help but be slightly annoyed at the kinds of ‘sketches’ that a lot of big artists share... i.e. super neat lines (it is essentially identical to the final piece just less colour or detail etc lol)
& the thing is i acknowledge that people define ‘sketch’ in different ways... some artists use ‘sketch’ to refer to a painting that took them like under an hour, or as the preliminary drawing they’re using for the final piece (which isn’t often the ‘initial’ design for the piece), whereas i would define a sketch as a messy/simple drawing of the basic composition i’m planning for a piece (often including notes as to colours i might include & various details),... and that’s fine, words mean different things to different people and it’s fine & great lol!
my ISSUE is that a lot of new and young artists who look up to these people only see ONE kind of art process... they only see these super neat preliminary drawings being called ‘sketches’ and then will look at their own creative process & their own sketches, & think ‘why are mine so messy? why aren’t mine pretty??’ & it makes me sad cos everyone has a different creative process and we should celebrate that, but it can feel really stifling when most of the ‘sketches’ shared by artists online are really neat and pretty looking...
and the thing is, the point of the sketch vs final piece trend (for me) is to show how you go from something p simple to a beautiful finished artwork, and to show that art doesnt just spring from nowhere & it takes a LOT of time and effort...
idk i guess i just wanna tell anyone who does super messy sketches like me: ur amazing and keep doing what ur doing... don’t let the way a lot of social media has made the creative process of artists seem stream lined & ‘perfect’ put u off produces some amazing artworks urself!!
#rant#idk what this is i just... wanted to ramble lol#i think also the fact that often i'll watch those process vids from big artists#and ... everyone seems to paint in a similar way??? and i'm like ?? i ?? i dont do that??#and i KNOW there r tonnes of artists who dont do that either#but idk it's like only a particularly (usually really 'neat') way of painting and drawing gets popular#which is maybe why i've never done v well pfffft#i cant help it if i'm a Mess in every aspect of my life lool

thought, i'd better ask instead of dm. so here goes: loving your posts. i read you're using a wacom and ps. how do you use it? can you give us details? where do you draw your inspiration? how do you plan/prepare your posts? how much time do you invest? a lot of studyblr focus on their photos/notes looking pretty, so i'm wondering how you draw the line between functionality and superfluity? xoxo
ok first of all wow those r a lot of questions, but i'll try my best to answer them
idk how much detail u want but i just use my wacom and photoshop to like design and illustrate
i mostly get design inspiration from behance and dribbble
i get post inspiration from
my daily life - e.g. "i'm having X problem; what if others have that problem too? let's do some research."
other people's lives - e.g. "3 people i know are struggling with Y; I think I know how to tackle Y. maybe readers can benefit from my experience."
things i read online (which is a lot but generally things i see from flipboard or medium) - e.g. "topic Z is currently trending. how do I feel about that? how does that relate to my life?"
how do i plan my posts?
make an outline of the things i wanna cover
expand on that outline with ideas of my own
do research and see what others have said about the topic
determine what format would be the most effective for said post based on given information
if it's a mostly text post
i write out the paragraphs
then make a title graphic
if it's an infographic/photoset/visual based post
i sketch out design and graphic ideas for the post
then execute in photoshop
(this is definitely a question for a much longer post so i apologize for the briefness)
how much time do i invest? it depends on how busy i am. if i have time, i might do 10 hours a week; if not, i can produce a long text post + 1-2 graphics in under 5h a week, which is less than 1h a day if spread evenly. graphics based posts take longer to make, especially when they include illustrations, so i opt for text based posts or very simple graphic ones when i'm particularly busy.
how i draw the line between functionality and superfluity? if i'm gonna be honest with you, i gave up focusing on physical aesthetic a long time ago. that's not to say i've completely given it up; i just focus on functionality and let physicality follow.
for example, take this page from my microecon notes (@ bottom of post).
why do i box and capitalize "Cournot Heterogeneity"? because it's a heading, a higher level of information than what's below it.
why are equations boxed in red? to make them easier to find among all the black text and endless equations
why do i skip lines? so i can make out the different terms/variables/numbers in each step of the solution. if not, they would appear more like a texture than actual, readable text. terms and conditions are designed like a texture of letters so that readers won't digest them. you wouldn't want that in your notes, would you? you’d rather have something your eyes can easily latch on to and your brain can easily grasp.
i guess the main principle is to do whatever makes your life easier and fulfills the purpose of what you’re doing.
if my notes were all in plain paragraph form with no formatting whatsoever, they would be very hard to read, it would be difficult for me to retain any information from them, and they wouldn’t fulfill their intended purpose.
(this also could be a much longer post so again sorry for being brief)

any tips on being a professional artist on the internet? I always love how polished your work is, and how u seem really competent with self marketing/professionalism and i'm just like, how do u do it? i wanna be a better presence on the internet/art community but i'm baffled about where/how to start
Hey! So I’m going to condense everything I know as best I can, but I don’t want to leave anything out. These are all of the things I keep in mind when posting online. I won’t really go into how to seek out employment, though, since that’s not really in my sphere.
* I asked crims via PM if they were comfortable with me posting my reply, so please feel free to reblog this as well!
Good luck and I love ya!!!
Make a Name For Yourself
Marketing yourself can be difficult enough as it is, but try to put thought into what you post and when! I do my best to avoid posting sketches onto my art blog, and save them for my personal blog and twitter.
Don’t just post on one site! It’s slow going to build a brand, which is why I regret waiting for so long to actually use my twitter.
Speaking of, register a domain! I purchased ghoultreats.com for $12 through google domains, and the url redirects to my art blog. (I’m still working on having the url display properly, but tumblr won’t let me :/)
All things considered, tumblr is a pretty good site to build a portfolio on, but the name does tend to give itself away. Wix is pretty good, too, so you could do the same thing there.
If you want to work under an alias, find an artist tag that’s snappy and recognizable, as well as one you could see yourself using for years. If you want to be taken seriously, avoid posting work under something memey, numbered, or clearly related to a fandom / intellectual property (I kept ‘ghoul’ because people usually don’t identify it as a Fallout reference.)
Understand that your tone is all people have to go by what you’re like personally when looking at your site. When you post, use concise captions--I do my best to never leave a picture un-captioned. Aesthetic stuff is fine but ‘idk lol i just drew it haha’ is unacceptable for your portfolio.
Fanart is gradually being seen as more acceptable to include in your portfolio these days, but try to gave it at a 1:9 ratio of fan stuff to original content.
Use tags, but tastefully. “#artists on tumblr” is a classic go-to and one that’s tracked by many people. Tag a few of the most prominent items in your piece for traffic visibility, especially if it’s a fan work. Same with Twitter.(also, following the Dec. 17 2018 update, it wouldn’t hurt to throw in a #sfw)
Join a Community
One annoying thing about tumblr is how unofficial the social circles are; on DeviantArt, you have groups, forums, and chat rooms, which all lend themselves to creating specific areas to share content and network. Tumblr doesn’t have that, obviously, so following tags and reaching out is about the best you can do.
So, 1. Join a discord server. If you see someone post about a server that interests you, look into it! Creative-centric discords are great for meeting new people and spreading your influence.
2. Join a zine! They’re fun collaborative efforts, you get to flex your creative muscles for the chance to create something you might not usually be able to produce (keychains, enamel pins, etc) and be featured alongside other artists! Plus, you can put it on a resume.
3. Submit your work to a convention artist alley! This does, of course, require you to have product to sell, but conventions are a FANTASTIC way to meet other artists.
Reaching out / networking / making friends can be scary, but as long as you’re respectful and friendly, things usually turn out okay! Remember, we’re all a bunch of self-conscious nerds. Reblogging/Retweeting and replying is a x2-hit combo. All artists love it.
Act Like A Professional
ie: fake it til you make it
I haven’t gone to art college. I can’t afford it, and frankly, for what I do, I don’t think I need to. This is NOT to devalue the importance of education, but to bring attention to the fact that currently, many network show runners and employees are alumni of the same school. Even Netflix’s new animation studio is run by those same people. So be honest about your education, but know that going to an art college isn’t required to become a professional.
Separate your socials from your professionals. It seems obvious, but far too often I’ve seen people use their main blogs as their portfolios. Don’t do that! However, Twitter is kind of a different beast, and it’s usually a bit more acceptable to post socially there, but I recommend linking to your portfolio right in your bio.
Periodically go through your portfolio and remove works that no longer reflect your skill as an artist. Now is the time to be self-critical. I’m not saying “DELETE EVERYTHING” but go in every few months with an eye for detail.
I also suggest not trying too hard to have A Style that you’re known for. The way we draw changes naturally over time, so please! Experiment, try new things and new mediums, and for the love of god, accept criticism. Tumblr communities have a habit of harboring a very anti-crit mentality, which stunts art growth and improvement.
Understand that critique is not a personal attack. You don’t have to adhere to every piece of advice that’s given to you, but understand that others’ perspectives of your work are valid and necessary. We create for others, so what they have to say is important.
Don’t use too many pages on your site. All you really need is an about page, contact info, and your main gallery. List your best, most recent achievements (ie: storyboard artist for x, character animator for y) on the about page.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF -- LEGIT. NOT A JOKE.
DROP self-deprecating commentary. When you feel bad about how someone is better than you, realize that you don’t know what their life is like. We’re all on different skill levels. Instead of saying, ‘wow, I’ll never be THAT good,’ evaluate what MAKES their art good. Save the pictures, study them, appreciate them!
Remember, someone thinks the same thing about your art.
I hope this has helped!

I am a FOOL how could I FORGET MIRITAMA OH MY G OD I definitely still ship it as much as I always have holy heck they’re so good
as for krmn, I definitely prefer them as friends. Well, right now I’m just really picky about my kirishima ships, lbr hahaha
Anon said:In your headcannon, does bakugo wear eyeliner (like when he's not in the hero suit)?
I don’t really have an headcanon for that! :O I think it’s not in Horikoshi’s intention to draw him with eyeliner ever, and I never draw him wearing eyeliner either, but it’s not like I mind the idea of him using it! So in general I’m like, either way it’s fine, he’s beautiful whatever he’s putting on his face hahaha
#fran answers#brush settings#gotta add this one to my faq :O#all my tools are really basic tbh#i feel like it's not even worth talking about them hahaha#anonymous

Check In
So... I got my new iPad less than I month ago, but it feels like ages. It has kind of been an emotional rollercoaster. I was so excited to have it for drawing, and well, after four days of using it, my drawing hand became very painful.
I’m no stranger to hand pain. I’m left-handed, but my right hand has been destroyed for years. It started in senior year of college when I went hard on school projects, vectoring with the (right-handed) mouse nonstop. Pain and clicking in thumb joint and wrist. I went years with that pain, and all my hobbies (sewing, knitting, gardening) and basic chores (typing, chopping food, cleaning, etc) hurt my hand. I wear braces, etc. I even eventually finally went to a hand doc and he told me I “had a loose joint” and there was nothing I could do. I wanted to punch him. Instead I went home crying.
I felt I could put up with the hand pain as long as it didn’t affect my art. I’ve never had a problem with intense pain from drawing ever in my life. I could draw for hours. Then, 4 days of using the iPad and I felt destroyed. This physical and mental road block sent me to buy literally anything I could on Amazon to help my hand. Now I’m tending to BOTH hands, and well, it’s kind of pathetic. This pain in my left hand demoralized me a bit. I want to work so hard on my comic and I feel like I fell flat on my face before really getting started.
Anyway, I’ve adjusted my workflow to improve the ergonomics (still need a standing desk situation, b/c drawing in my bed is... killing my back), been trying to be good about doing hand stretches, and am seeing a different (sister-approved) hand doc later this month. I’m trying to be proactive because I feel my right hand is a lost cause but I can recover my dominant hand and keep it from being completely destroyed. It’s just sad when something like this keeps you from something you love. I can’t even stop myself from drawing, though. For better or worse.
I have about 4 comic pages done and others in the works, a third or more of the first chapter thumbnailed. (And well, I have about 40% of the story full scripted and the entire thing planned out). I have to say, the pages are taking me way longer than anticipated. Some have taken 8 hours. Simpler ones are 6. That doesn’t include the thumbnailing stage which are fairly concrete sketches I’m bringing in, (I find I draw better on paper, plus I want to minimize my time on the iPad) which probably take an hour+ each on their own. AKA pages are taking a very long time. Whether or not they live up to my expectations or not is a different story, but.
The other night I went into a panic attack in the middle of the night. Hello, insomnia. I was already well aware that on even a fast pace, this comic will take 10 years to draw. Realizing that with a full-time job, I can’t reasonably commit to 3 pages/week...my brain always needs to figure out logistics. I’m very cart-before-the-horse, and well, it’s tiresome. 44 chapters total, let’s say average 35 pages each. That’s over 1500 pages. Yes, I’m insane, but that’s the plan. Right now, I think I can push myself to 10 pages/month. That will be 3 chapters (with breaks between for thumbnailing) a year, puts me in a good position for how I structured the story (every 3 chapters is an arc/mini-arc.) BUT. That’s legit 14 years of constantly nonstop work. FUck me. I want to go faster. There’s so much story to tell, I want to go faster.
Eventually, if things take off even remotely at all (aka with fan funding), I’d like to hire a color flatter (know one?) That way I could produce pages faster without completely destroying my health and sanity. Am I insane? I think I probably am.
Overall I feel very anxious. I don’t know if what I’m producing even lives up to my standard but I don’t want to be caught up in perfection (I’m a perfectionist but I very quickly learn to give things up when you need a finished product sooner than later. I can live with “good enough”). I’m hoping art-wise I will improve. That’s how it works, right? I don’t know what I’m doing with backgrounds and colors LOL.
I’m very anxious. I don’t know if anyone will care. What if they don’t? That will probably kill me. What if they do? I’m afraid. I’m afraid of someone trying to call me problematic for my storytelling. IDK why, but that’s a big fear of mine. Some of the topics and themes of the story aren’t very pretty, so. I’m very anxious.
Also, hahah, despite feeling like I have a pathway in life now, I’m still depressed. Imagine that. Still very empty inside. But my characters make me feel a little less lonely. Honestly, this story was built out of depression, so I guess we’ve come full circle. My deepest hope is that someone will grow attached to the characters that way I have. In retrospect, the MC shares a lot of my own experiences, hahah. He’s way more impulsive than me though. I hope people can relate to him, and the other characters, because it’s literally an extension of me, hahah.
I feel alone in this, but I’m working hard. I’m a Capricorn. We live for goals. I have a goal now. Something that makes my life feel meaningful. I hope along the line, someone will care, but all and all, I’m doing this for myself. It’s something I wanted to do since I was 10 years old. I’ve always been fruitlessly making failed comics in the background. This time is for real. Somehow this was the timeline I was supposed to be on to write this story. That’s as positive as I can be about my shitty life experiences, lol. Finally, now that I’m 30, I know the story I want to tell.
#long post#very long post#i'm sorry#webcomics#storytelling#i'm tired it's late#I have work tomorrow#pipe dream is to work full-time on my comic but that's very unlikely#I appreciate any kind of support that can be offered#I'm sorry I know I'm very selfish#I don't have time or energy for other people but still want support from others#i'm a bad person lol#goodnight

Blank meme : https://dustbunnythumper.deviantart.com/art/2017-Summary-of-Art-BLANK-718337918 ..Here we go again..Another year is nearly at it's end so I decided once again to do this meme to show how far I've come with my art this year :) Here are previous years' memes if you're interested :D 2012: https://fran48.deviantart.com/art/2012-Art-Summary-Fran48-343638908 2013: https://fran48.deviantart.com/art/2013-Art-Summary-Fran48-422621435 2014: https://fran48.deviantart.com/art/My-2014-Summary-Of-Art-Fran48-503896864 2015: https://fran48.deviantart.com/art/My-2015-Summary-of-art-578886586 2016: https://fran48.deviantart.com/art/Fran48-s-2016-Summary-Of-Art-654040723 This year, like last year has been pretty bad This year in a nutshell..but I'm hoping (and praying) that surely next year can't be nearly as stressful..maybe I'll jinx myself doing that though ^^;..I managed to fit in artwork each month though, maybe I just did it as some form of stress relief this year..idk but seeing improvements and new pieces that I was satisfied with, definitely made me feel a lot better ^^ The resources I used this year included Ms paint, Watercolour paints, coloured pencils, mechanical pencils, fine liner pens, pencils, coloured pens, chalk , charcoal ,crayons, camera, phone, video camera, felt tip pens, and much later in the year, Paint tool sai, which I also used to edit this along with Ms paint.. Even though I did a few different pictures throughout November, I started my apprenciceship then and so I drew inbetween work (though very tired) and at weekends so I wasn't as productive as previous months.. December: This month..I continued watching the current season of Rwby and drew two speedpaint fanarts from it, one that is featured in this meme Cinder fall (Youtube speedpaint :D) I drew some mechanical pencil drawings including Danganronpa, Naruto and DC comics pieces, I also saw all of the film Chicken Run all the way through for the first time and drew a picture of its main protagonist.. and finally got around to painting again after breaking up from work and managed to create this canvas piece of Rin Okumura from Blue exorcist:Rin Okumura finished Overall I feel I have got into quite a few different fandoms and series this year and tried different things with pieces such as incorporating art deco style in, using paint tool sai and livestreaming though I don't feel I have improved much this year but hope to do so in the following years.. Thank you guys for supporting me, your help has meant a lot to me ^_^ <33 Happy new year to you all

Hey I'm new to studyblr and I really wanna do graphic design when I finish high school and I saw that's what you are learning at the moment and now I'm all excited!! Can I ask how you are going with it and what you most enjoy and most dislike about it? Idk I just am really keen to learn all about how it is 😂💕
Hi! Ahh I’m so excited FOR you!! :D
I’m going to break this down into a list so I don’t ramble too long haha (but honestly now that you’re asking you’re gonna get me started and boy do I mean STARTED here we go)
What I Enjoy Most
Art... but with PURPOSE! I love to think and solve problems, so applying that love with art is so awesome to me!
Seeing good design and getting inspired (makes me excited)
Getting taught new ways to do things. Physical mediums like screen printing and how to scan in your illustrations has definitely given me more ideas for the future, hehe. Also learning new shortcuts or things in programs that make work 10x faster to produce is always helpful!
Being able to use my illustration skills in my designs!
Sometimes when I’m coding websites I lose track of time and end up going at that for half the day (and even when I’m doing sketches for concepts), and honestly I kind of love those moments. It’s just something that I really enjoy doing that I can do forEVER sometimes haha
The friends I’ve made are also fantastic. I’m sure this is for any field, but just the feeling of talking to other people about design is so neat! I’ve definitely made friends on here, too!
I love it when I put something on the board for critique and there are a few classmates that go “omg that looks so GOOD” or if my professor says “you did a REALLY good job! I love how you did [insert thing here]” because it just makes all the work feel more worth it!
I love to push concepts. It’s funny because my professors always say “PUSH IT” so now that’s just what I say all the time in reference to trying to make concepts/ideas more fun, crazy, or clever. Making that jump from “good” to “WOW” is such a great feeling.
Learning about paper choices was awesome because when you print something on nice, textured, and/or colored paper it is SO different from what you see on the screen. Or really just seeing all of the work finally fully produced is such a good feeling.
Giving feedback to other people and seeing their work/thought process. Usually what’ll happen in critique is that everyone’s work will go up on the board for everyone else to see, and then the hamster wheel in my head starts spinning for everyone else’s projects LOL. I get super inspired by my peers and I also love to give them ideas or let them know what I’m thinking, haha.
What I Dislike (just mini rants at this point)
If I’m stuck I get really really stuck. I’ll eventually get out of it, but I just hate that moment when I’m trying to figure something out (let’s say a logo) but no matter what I do it doesn’t look “right”. UGH. Hard work and inspiration digging gets me out of it but I just hate when it happens
The long nights I’ve pulled for projects lol
3-hour long critiques... okay like I don’t DISLIKE them, but when it’s a 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM class and we slowly talk about each person’s work for that long and you went near the beginning, you get pretty bored/tired pretty quickly. Most times I like to contribute feedback a lot, but if I just got done pulling an all-nighter or there isn’t much to say I’d rather just keep working on my own stuff or sleep
Working on something that I don’t have a good concept for. It just feels like I’m doing it for nothing if it doesn’t have a good concept/idea I guess.
Getting bad feedback. Not getting bad feedback as in “constructive criticism”, I mean like “oh that looks good” being my only feedback for a 3-hour class and everyone else gets 15-minute sessions of what they could do with their work. It’s technically a good thing because that means I’m going in the right direction, but it also just kind of sucks if you spent a lot of time on it and the only talk about the project is “oh good job” and that’s it I guess? I wouldn’t mind as much if they also told me WHY they liked it I guess is what it is.
Lectures on things I already know about. A repetitive lecture/tutorial honestly kills me inside to the point that I end up doing something else while in class (talking about you web design 1 class). Like there’s literally no point in being in a 3 hour class studio if the time is spent reviewing something I already know.
Drama in my tiny class-size (there’s 13 of us going into senior year of the program). Like it’s such a small class that everyone knows that there’s beef or something up with the other people when it happens. Literally can’t avoid it.
Overall Experience
I have loved everything I’ve learned.
The friendships I’ve made are fantastic
The growth that happens when your inner lightbulb goes off is almost shocking
I almost surprise myself sometimes when it comes to my own projects. Mostly because I usually build up to an idea and then when you see the beginning sketches vs. the final product you just go “WOAH, I’ve come a long way!”
I’ve literally fallen in love with Graphic Design and I feel so motivated to do anything in the field (including projects I’m involved with in the studyblr/studioblr community!)
omg I hope you enjoyed my long talk but when you get me started I am STARTED. Feel free to ask more questions and I’d be very happy to respond!

I first came in contact with Los Angeles based superhero Sama'an Ashrawi a few months back. I was at my 9-5 when he hit me up via email to talk about the Afrofuturistic web series that he was co-producing for DUST. He had found a piece I’d done on Missy Elliott’s love for spacey visuals and we soon started chatting about media, art, and futuristic Black life.
I figured out pretty quickly that Ashrawi was way more dope than I could’ve ever imagined. He’s met Herbie Hancock, Ladybug Mecca, Thundercat, and countless other legendary creative pillars. Since we’ve been in touch, he’s shared great stories about his life with me and I’m grateful that someone with his experience is that open. I mentioned that I wanted to interview him and he quickly and graciously accepted. So, without further ado, here is my chat with Sama'an Ashrawi, Trill Gladiator.
⭐️
Who are you?
My name is Sama’an, my friends often refer to me as “dad” because:
a) I like to make sure everyone stays hydrated when we go out dancing
b) my dance moves are pretty stiff (almost nailed a Milly Rock last weekend, but I’m not quite there yet), and
c) because I am very much into puns.
I also get called “William Miller” a lot because my hair and career have a lot of similarities to the kid from the movie Almost Famous. This clip = me. From a young age, I’ve been able to gain the trust of, and land interviews with, really big names. I was 20 when I interviewed Raekwon for the first time, 21 when I interviewed Kendrick Lamar and Damian Marley.
What sparked your interest in Afrofuturism?
The short answer is: a combination of things in my upbringing.
The long answer is:
Since I was a teenager, I was into the music of Hendrix and George Clinton and watched plenty of Star Trek thanks to my parents; they met in college as political activists and over the years have introduced me to their many friends who were veterans of various liberation movements. My parents and their friends taught me intersectionality before I was introduced to that term in college.
Though I can’t be sure if it happened on Twitter or in the classroom, I discovered the music of Sun Ra and Fela Kuti and the idea of Afrofuturism as I pursued a minor in African Diaspora Studies. The Af Am classes I took were hugely important in shaping my understanding of the uniqueness of the psychology of the African American experience, but I think it was my parents’ homegrown education that gave me the foundation to be aware of and open to those ideas.
(shot by Sarah Jasmine Montgomery)
College changed my life. It’s where I paid my dues. It’s where I met so many of the people who would open doors for me and help me set my sails. Many of them I still work with to this day. But I think the two most important things I did in college were: becoming a producer at, and eventually entertainment director of, Texas Student TV (our student-run TV station) & minoring in Africa & African Diaspora Studies.
I think when people try to downplay the history of racism in this country, pointing them to Sun Ra is a great rebuttal because it’s like… things were really so bad that Sun Ra wanted to take black people to a whole new planet. That Sun Ra’s escapism was so heavy and yet he could still present it in such a beautiful amd melodic way still blows my mind. In general, I think art that comes from marginalized communities has the ability to cut through the static in a way that is unparalleled— more than a speech ever could.
Have you learned anything in the last week?
Hmmmm what have I learned in the last week? I learn so much from my friends every day, you’re making me want to start a journal dedicated to the things my friends teach me. Some wisdom that my big brother Gary Clark Jr just imparted to me is: when you’re collaborating with someone, it’s like a dance; if you’re moving at two different speeds, you’re gonna trip each other up. So if you feel like you’re moving faster than the other person, pump your brakes.
(shot by Marco Torres)
How did you meet Bun B?
I just had the treat of witnessing him tell this story last time I was in Houston. It’s way more cinematic when he tells it, but, we met almost exactly 7 years ago, in July of 2010. It was the summer after my sophomore year at The University of Texas and I had just been handed the reins to produce the hip-hop show at our school’s student-run TV station, Texas Student TV. The show had formerly been called ATX Most Wanted, but our entertainment director at the time, the now Emmy-winning Tabitha Lipkin, said she wanted me to come up with a new name.
I had driven to Houston from Austin to cover Trae Day— underground legend Trae Tha Truth’s city holiday and its corresponding concert. (PS Trae gave me a lot of my first looks, and for that I am forever grateful—later, when I became entertainment director at the TV station, I would get his videos and cartoon sketches played on the station. PPS I may or may not have a cameo in this music video, I’ll let you find it though)
At any rate, Lupe Fiasco happened to be at Trae’s concert and so I went right up to him and introduced myself; my sister was with me and she got a great, sweaty picture of us together that I need to dig up. (As the years have gone by, Lupe has been a sort of enigmatic mentor figure, appearing a few times a year to give me encouragement or advice, and whenever I’ve needed to do an interview, he’s always said yes.)
Anyway, at Trae Day I also met a rapper named Troublesum; she and I struck up a conversation and she asked, “Are you going to Bun B’s album listening session tonight?”
I was like, “I had no idea that was even a thing.”
So she gave me the deets and a few hours later we met back up there. This was Bun’sTrill O.G. album which has the distinction of being the last album given 5 mics by The Source. Troublesum introduced me to one of Bun’s managers, Bone, I gave him my spiel and asked if I could interview Bun. He said, “Once we’re done listening to the album, I got you.”
You’ve gotta know that growing up in Texas, Bun is looked at as a Greek God, mythical and omnipotent. I thought it would take me years to meet the man, let alone interview him. Here I was, just a few months into my “career”, and I was in a studio sitting next to Lupe Fiasco and Young Buck (lol) waiting to interview Bun.
The new name for the show I had come up with was simple and to the point, “Longhorn Hip Hop”; Our school mascot is the Longhorns, so it made sense. I told myself, okay, if it sounds good coming out of Bun’s mouth, it’s gonna stick (Bun would tell me I should say “pause” here, but this isn’t his interview so I’m not gonna say it!) So we did the interview, it went well, and Bun said something like, “Shoutout to Longhorn Hip Hop; Hook ‘em Horns, baby,” and I was like, “Yup, that’s it.”
Then I ended up at a lot of events over the next few months that Bun also was at and built up a good rapport with the people around him; I think understandably Bun is wary of letting new people into his circle, so he kept his distance from me at first to see if I was a genuine person. But the way Bun likes to tell it is that the breakthrough moment was when I showed up to his bodyguard Truck’s birthday party the next year, that was what made him initiate me into the Trill Gladiators. When Bun tells the story he always emphasizes the fact that, “Sama’an came allll the way to the HOOD” haha but for me it was more about supporting the people who supported me. And to this day, Bone, Truck, and Bun, among others, have always been there for me.
Do you feel lit? You’re pretty poppin in my opinion, but how do you feel about yourself?
Haha you know, I’m not sure I’ve ever used the term “lit” un-ironically mainly because I’m not sure it’s for me to say. I think I’ve done a lot of cool stuff, can’t deny that, but I’ve still got a lot of growing to do. One person who inspires me a great deal is Hannibal Buress; I look at how long he grinded it out before he caught his big breaks and it motivates me to keep going.
How do I feel about myself? Truthfully, maybe this says a lot about me, but I never take selfies. Is that weird? Like if you follow me on snapchat, you’ll rarely if ever see me post selfie pics/videos. What does that say about me? Idk.
What’s the most important part of your creative process?
Movement. Going for a walk, or a drive to a far away place, or playing basketball. Something about taking in new surroundings helps me get my ideas out, especially if I’ve got writer’s block.
Write three sentences. One for the past you, one for the current you, and one for super duper grown up you.
Past – Maybe don’t tweet so much.
Present – Sometimes growth is stressful and crying is okay.
Super Duper Grown Up – Please tell me I grow up to be a late night talk show host.
That’s all folks! Thanks for reading~

The biggest WTF in design right now
What are user flows and why you need to use them. An illustrated guide on going from “WTF, am I looking at”, to a clear design of how your app works.
Mylife-long goal is to spread the word about user flows… Nah, not really, but I do care deeply about technology and the way we communicate how it works.
I like to think about what tools and methods we use to get our ideas across among other designers.
I also like think about how we communicate with people outside of our professions, away from the comfort of our jargon and familiar tools. This is why I care about user flows and I guess because I’m building this.
In this article we’ll go through the big WTF in design: “What’s the flow!”. Answering what user flows are, the fundamentals of user flows, and then we’ll finish with a few examples.
Contents:
WTF are user flows? 🤷
WTF am I looking at? 👀 ⁉️
The fundamentals of user flows 📖
Putting it all together with examples 🔥
WTF are user flows?
What are user flows in a nice neat sentence?
A user flow is a series of steps a user takes to achieve a meaningful goal.
And why are they used?
They are used to communicate the intended flow of a user through various pages and actions in an app or website.
Great, and what are they made of?
A User Flow usually includes a name, steps, users, and a description of what happens at each step.
And where did you pull that 💎 of a quote from?
Alex Handley, just then, Primary Co-founder
Others have progressed the adoption of user flows and offered their own definition. Tools like Overflow and Flowmapp exist to help you create user flows. Ryan from Basecamp invented a great short-hand for user flows (what he calls UI flows):
Nice and simple. Source here
(Now I can cross off “referencing an OG Signal v. Noise article in a Medium article” from my bucket list).
User flows are another method to segment and define your digital product, customer experience, website, or app.
So it’s just another method, except, the beautiful thing about user flows is their ability to define sections of something gnarly, abstract and technical like “cross-platform mobile experiences” from the perspective of the user.
Not the underlying technology’s flow. ❌
Not the development methodology’s flow. ❌
Not the person implementing the design’s flow. ❌
It’s the user’s flow. As in, the people that you’re designing for. ✅
If you remember one thing about user flows, it’s to define them by the goal your user achieves by completing the flow.
For example, a User Flow could detail how website visitors create an account, order a flamethrower or subscribe to a mailing list.
Here’s a stock-standard example of a user flow:
And for something a bit more interesting:
WTF am I looking at?
I’m lucky enough to help and receive help from over a dozen startups this year alone. In every conversation I think “WTF”, you know “what’s the flows”.
Here’s the reconstruction of a few typical conversations and why they highlight the need for user flows.
Startup founder
Product designer. I forgot to include the 2.1gb Sketch file.
Business Analyst AKA UX designer (well kinda, not really, what do you think?)
Okay, this one wasn’t a helpful example more just an opportunity to vent.🕊️
Technology is wonderfully free. Free like H1N1 in an international airport. Free like a team independently creating the different parts of a rubric’s cube where the colours and number of sides is decided in progressive sprints.
Dear Agile coaches, please feel free to tell me in the comments that my non-positive view on Agile stems from my inability to do Agile or insufficient application of all Agile principles. 🙃Photo by Alvaro Reyes (sorry to drag your harmless picture into an Agile debate)
This freedom works for software but it has it’s side-effects. I think that user flows are best antidote we have for the “wtf am I looking at” issue we have in communicating anything tech. They help our audience orient themselves on jargon-free and sensical questions:
What is the goal of this thing (app/website/product/digital kiosk future customer experience)?
Who is doing it?
and How do they do it?
Let’s go through a simple system to create these (overly?) hyped user flows.
The fundamentals of User Flows 📖
I think there are three foundations that make up great user flows. Some other people think differently, they are proponents of the “free-flow”movement (that I just named) and advocate for free-form, infinite scroll, chose your own adventure, snakes, ladders and navbar flows.
After witnessing enough software project blowouts, I’m a stickler for structure.
Fundamental 1: User flows show their purpose 🏆
A user flow has a name which describes it’s purpose: the goal your users achieve by completing the steps. Naming your user flows is an important factor and is often missed.
Name your flow after the user’s goal and get bonus points by saying who the user is.
Fundamental 2. User Flows go in one direction ➡️
By sticking to one direction and limiting the decision points in your flows you separate it from sprawling sitemaps and free-form clickable prototypes.
Both have their utility, but for conveying distinct behaviours, user flows work best. (So user flows ≠sitemaps or high-res prototypes).
User flows can have multiple paths but only to show different states, not different goals.
Why do user flows work? The main reason seems to be that they tell a story. Our brains are hardwired to remember stories and the people involved.
Although the “Create an account” user flow may not be the most interesting story, it is far easier for the reader to remember than a sprawling map of possible flows. And easier for the non-tech folk than “Ticket #678: Asset 47 (non-staff account) activation”.
Fundamental 3. User flows represent a complete task ✅
In order to keep your app (or any digital product’s) design organised the scope of each user flow should be a single task or goal of your user.
If your user flow is only a fragment then it loses the power to tell the story of your users. If they go on for too long they lose their meaning.
If you have interfaces (wireframes, mockups) show them! Describe each step and detail why there are alternate paths.
User flows, out of all of the artefacts produced in your digital project, should be the unambiguous model of your app or website design.
Make sure you include all of the information you need to show the reason for the design of the User Flow.
Putting it all together with examples
Now let’s put those fundamentals into practice.
1. User flows show their purpose 🏆
This user flow may be pretty but it’s vagueness hides potential complexity and doesn’t communicate enough information back to the viewer.
By naming your user flows you’re able to design from the user’s perspective and split your flows based off their goals.
2. User flows go in one direction ️️️➡️
This works as a good sitemap or to show navigation.
It is better to split your user flows into distinct flows.
3. User flows represent a complete task ✅
Idk who Pam is but they could be getting a lot of emails.
Avoid adding in detail that doesn’t help to communicate the flow and actions of the user.
In this example anyone can read and understand the User Flow.
All together now!
Let’s say you’re a billionaire and want to use your massive marketing and PR team to come across as a bored polymath who funds his crazy ideas with novel products like roofing torches. WTF!? Say it with me: what’s the flows?
Toasty!

Troll Hamilton
@dreamwaffles and I have sketched out the basics of Troll Hamilton!
So, the Summoner’s rebellion was pretty big, yes? And he couldn’t possibly have been on every front at once. So on one less-than-central front, the rebels managed to overthrow the regional governor -- a laughably out-of-touch seadweller called George George -- and settled in to try to govern their area non-autocratically. Obviously (almost) all of them got killed when the Condesce arrived to put down the rebellion, but the main character died before that in a duel.
Writing this musical is political suicide (it doesn’t help that it’s all in slam poetry, trespassing in clown specialties). A lot of the original creators were executed. Producing or attending or listening to or acknowledging the existence of this musical would be political suicide. Except.
Her Imperious Condescension loves the music. And what HIC wants, HIC gets, even if it’s the continued existence and popularity of a frankly seditious musical.
In the play, Alxand Hamilt and Aarron Bursur are both olive, to play up the parallels between them, and both had lusii who died when they were young, but Bursur has a famous Ancestor of some description. (In history, Hamilt was mustard.) Bursur and Hamilt flip between ash and pitch a bunch of times, and never really find a good enough middle leaf. At the end they flip dangerously unstable pitch, and then there’s the duel. Hamilt also had a torrid pitch affair with Jefers somewhere in there.
Hamilt’s matesprit Elizah never flipped on his even after his publicized cheating. Elizah’s moirail is Angela. There’s unresolved-quadrant-tension of SOME sort between Hamilt and Angela. Angela is teal; Elizah’s in the high-jade-low-teal ambiguity zone, and doesn’t want to end up stuck in the caverns. At the end of the show, however, she escapes the slaughter of the rebellion by seeking shelter in the caverns, because she’s the only one who can live, and someone has to tell the story.
Discussion giving rise to all this:
dreamwaffles
hi hello I am interested in discussing troll Shakespeare
also I have Thoughts about Troll Hamilton
ceescedasticity
Tell me about Troll Hamilton
dreamwaffles
so Burr and Hamilton flipped between ash and pitch a few times.
their most successful middle leaf was George Washington during the war.
there was a while where they didn't cross orbits so much and Hamilton and Jefferson had a TORRID pitch relationship
flush with Eliza, pale(?) with Angelica
dreamwaffles
anyway Washington stepped in ash a few times for Hamilton and Jefferson but really those two were born to politically brawl all the time
(ash in the Cabinet, pitch in the ....I can't make 'bedroom' rhyme with Cabinet)
but at the end of Hamilton's life he and Burr flip pitch again
and it goes sour
dreamwaffles
Itemized list of disagreements! Duel! Bam.
He and Eliza don't ever really flip black when he cheats flush
(she and Angelica are like the Scourge Sisters but also pale)
this gives Angelica reason to ....???!!! when he hits on her pale
ceescedasticity
Hee
dreamwaffles
probably he and John Laurens were a flush fling in youth
dreamwaffles
I had a six-hour drive, what can I say. :P
I bet you can guess what my soundtrack was!
ceescedasticity
Maybe, maybe!
dreamwaffles
Hamilton's caliginous quadrants are a huge huge mess
really only Washington was able to last as a middle leaf. Everyone else gave up after like. a few days.
ceescedasticity
Do you have any idea of what the framing plot would be - is it actually a revolution, or what?
dreamwaffles
that I didn't devote much time to, though it's definitely fun.
maybe like
a tribute world so that King George can be a SUPER overdramatic violet
I was thinking probably most of the cast would be at most, like, cerulean
dreamwaffles
except George
dreamwaffles
Alexander might be, say, bronze or yellow
ceescedasticity
Hmmm, that sounds right
dreamwaffles
the Schuylers could be jades? I don't know if this is a universe with +1 mother grub, I've read a few aus where some colonies take one along
Or maybe teals.
George Washington and Jefferson are as high blue as Equius
ceescedasticity
yeah
King George is a seadweller who has never been on land and knows about as much about it as the little mermaid
dreamwaffles
Burr should be the same color as Hamilton
TOTES
ceescedasticity
that's a little difficult since Burr did have those antecedents...
same color, but knows about an Ancestor?
dreamwaffles
hmm true
Yeah, famous Ancestor
I just think the whole mirroring one another is important
though maybe step him up to 'famous olive'
ceescedasticity
agreed
dreamwaffles
I guess there's no reason Hamilton couldn't be busted down to rust, but that just gets a little more classist than I was going for
yellow still has the class thing but it's less pronounced
ceescedasticity
I think olive might be best
dreamwaffles
though if he's rust it makes the 'why do you write like you're running out of time' lines of Eliza's rather more heartbreaking
for Burr?
yeah
ceescedasticity
I think Hamilton and Burr both olive, Burr with a famous ancestor, could work
Like with Thresh Prince, olive is low enough to do caste-clashing, but not TOO low
dreamwaffles
You have a point
and he did go into law, so I that does bump him up
class-wise
ceescedasticity
Now, if I were designing a Alternia AU for Hamilton, Hamilton would probably be yellow
dreamwaffles
oh, most definitely
ceescedasticity
Either set it a very, very, very long time ago so it can have an analogous ending - gov they set up lasts a while - or during the Summoner's rebellion and everything goes bad at the end
But Eliza escapes
dreamwaffles
YES
like, among the troops.
ceescedasticity
which troops?
dreamwaffles
oh, the summoners' troops. Not a focus on the main part of the rebellion, but like, what was going on on the ground while the Summoner brought in the dragon?
ceescedasticity
yes, that's a good idea
dreamwaffles
I guess that's still pretty major.
dreamwaffles
But if there were two parts to the rebellion, the one fighting the sea forces and the one fighting the clown forces
then maybe whichever one the dragon wasn't with :P
ceescedasticity
King George would make a terrible subjugglator
dreamwaffles
I was thinking put him with the seadweller troops
that way HIC doesn't have to be involved
also the musical is v subversive because IT'S ALL SLAM POETRY?!?
(iirc that's associated with the clowns?)
(and thus highbloods)
ceescedasticity
Yes, I think so, too
dreamwaffles
but the highest blood in the cast is, like
dreamwaffles
usually honestly a blue who they tape fins on
unless they can find a really chill seadweller
(Fef would probably do it.)
(no, Fef would totally do it. Eridan would NEVER)
ceescedasticity
Snerk
dreamwaffles
(It has to be a blue otherwise people get EVEN More OFFENDED by someone pretending to be a seadweller)
(though there was a very well-rated all-rust production)
dreamwaffles
(probably honestly they were all culled)
ceescedasticity
Really, it's unavoidably subversive enough it would probably be banned -- except HIC took a liking to the music
dreamwaffles
Yeah. Awkward. It's not advisable to perform within 500 miles of subjugglators
ceescedasticity
A lot of seadwellers are also highly offended by it, but pretend not to be in an effort to suck up to HIC
dreamwaffles
Linman Mirnda was posthumously honored (the clowns got him)
dreamwaffles
A very small number of trolls know that HIC likes to enter war briefings to a remixed track of 'Here comes the general'
(fix it for troll standards)
ceescedasticity
And then she does her own version of the "we are out___ed", insulting her audience in some way
dreamwaffles
*SIGH* ".....what."
because it's call and response and she WILL fork you
dreamwaffles
Kurloz is SUPER not pleased about her love for this musical
but
he can't do anything about it
ceescedasticity
Easy way for upper-ranking subjugglator to die is share some slam poetry identifiably inspired by it
dreamwaffles
which is a problem, because Mirnda sampled A LOT of classic slam
so even if the subjugglator isn't *trying* to reference Mirnda....
(how do we trollorize 'Hamilton'
ceescedasticity
Hamilt? Xander Hamilt?
Alxand Hamilt?
dreamwaffles
and Burr is gonna be ridiculous.
Aaronn Burrsr?
ceescedasticity
Aarron Burrrr?
dreamwaffles
Ehehehe

Aarron Bursur?

Elizah is easy enough... Angela?
dreamwaffles
Close enough.

(and Peggie!)
ceescedasticity
lol

(you are, btw, welcome to add this to your crossover stuff if you are inclined, just tag me. :P )
(idk if this is the kind of stuff you collect but I'm not gonna do anything with it.)
ceescedasticity
I may post a transcript of the conversation if that's okay?
dreamwaffles
Totally fine!
So if this is Summoner-era, where does Jefferson come in?
dreamwaffles
Also, Lafyet is East Alternian, I guess
because the play's like Act 1: war Act 2: LEGISLACERATORS (kinda)
ceescedasticity
Hmmmm... true
ceescedasticity
Maybe the second act takes place inside the period between when they broke the imperial forces on Alternia and when HIC the Fleet arrived to Ruin Everything -- could be weeks, months, even a sweep or two
HIC AND the Fleet
dreamwaffles
Oooh, I like it
so, like, it ends with a duel and Eliza's final song is a song of escape as everyone else dies
ceescedasticity
"We're all about to die in the imperial counterattack and you two are trying to shoot EACH OTHER?"
Not sure who says that
...Probably Karkat the first time he saw a video of a production
dreamwaffles
He definitely cried though
The background is maybe, like
engines or something? You can see HIC in the distance
or, no, better, there's a projection of ships coming in
as the pitch romance goes sour, their auspistice (the general in the last war) dead
it's a tragedy, naturally
ceescedasticity
some people just watch the first half
(lol that would be me. i would only watch the less tragic half.)
dreamwaffles
one of the ones Karkat recommends for the cultureless aliens
Tavros only watches the first half
Sollux prefers the second half but pretends he has never seen it
ceescedasticity
when Aradia was little she dug up a skull she was SURE was... idk who
dreamwaffles
Nepeta is in it for the Laurens/Hamilton and the Schuyler/Hamilton, which I guess they'd need to devote a song to before they settle
Maybe Lafyte? I can see Aradia liking him. He's swashbuckling.
ceescedasticity
yes, good
sadly I need to attempt to get some sleep
dreamwaffles
the horns were JUST RIGHT
ceescedasticity
blech worknights
dreamwaffles
fun talking to you though!
sleep well

Hello World! It’s been a long ass time, and for that I’m sorry. I fell behind on writing for a few days and then I just kept getting busy so this got put on the back burner, but I’m back! Here’s a (somewhat) brief synopsis of every day since I wrote last...
8/30 - Went over to Parker’s house and drank for the first time! It was ok. His roommate got supper drunk which was amusing. I stayed the night.
8/31 - There was a home game (1st one of the season) and Parker went to that while I went back to my dorm and listened to the game. I ended up feeling kinda sick and stuff, so I took a nap in the middle of the game lmao. Later Parker’s dad took us out to supper and I had a massive pretzel. Later that night I asked parker to go get me some allergy meds and some ice cream, which he kindly supplied. I then passed out for 12 hrs!
9/1 - Mostly just hung out in my dorm and did a little bit of homework. I called all of my parents and told them about my first week of classes. It was nice to tell them about it.
9/2 - It was labor day so I didn’t have anything to do, and my roommate was still out for the weekend. I did more drawing homework, cleaned up a lil, and went on a nice walk around campus with Parker. I read him some letters I had written for him and we talked a bit about marriage and shit. I gave him a gold turtle pin as a token of my love or whatever. We crossed paths with a fat raccoon and a kid showed us a ~ magic trick ~ where he split a stick using his forehead. College is wack. All in all a good day.
9/3,4,5 - I can’t remember much from these days. Mostly just doing class work and shit. I had planned to go home the coming weekend so I was trying to get as much done as possible before I went. I spent a shit ton of time in the studio on Wednesday night and had a great time with the buses (I did not have a great time). I hoped on a bus thinking that it would take me to one of two places close to my dorm, and I’d just get off at whichever stop came first. Neither of them did. I rode the whole route for like 30 min and got off one stop from where I had originally gotten on. I hadn’t eaten supper yet, and it was 9:50. The dining halls close at 10, and I was 10min away from my dorm. I managed to stop by a little shop and get a sandwich 5 min before they closed, and I angrily walked my way home. I sat in the common room, ate my sandwich, and then promptly returned to my room and fell asleep after a shitty 16hr day. Thursday I just spent more time in the studio getting shit done.
9/6 - I didn’t have class until noon so I spent my morning packing and getting laundry done before I went home for the weekend. I tried to get the washers to work but they wouldn’t take cash or debit, so I had to download an app, put a minimum of $10 worth of credits into it, and THEN I could start my laundry. I was going to eat breakfast while my clothes were being washed, but the dining hall closed right when I got there, and I almost had the gate shut on my head. Instead, I went to my room, read the book Parker let me borrow, and had some granola bars. When my laundry was done I went to put it in the dryers, only for the dryers to not fucking work. I drug my still wet clothes up 4 flights of stairs and got to let everything air dry in my room. I went to class, came back, folded as much as I could, ate some shitty dining hall food, folded the rest of my clothes, got my bags, found my car, and headed out. On my way back home I happened across a dinky little town called Stanhope that apparently has ‘watermelon days’ every year in July. I took a bit of a scenic route compared to the interstate and I greatly enjoyed my tiny bit of isolation. I made it home just before 4, talked to my dad for a bit, refueled my car, got groceries, and made it back in time for some pork burgers for supper! Afterwards Chance and I talked about movies and shit for a long as time before we finally picked out a movie for family movie night. We ended up watching Heathers, and after that we all went to bed.
9/7 - The next morning my dad got the whole house donuts, and he and I went to the farmers market to pick up eggs and banana bread. Upon returning home he gave me a whole bunch of art stuff for me to use, and I packed it all into a little leather messenger bag he gave me. So now I have an art bag! I worked briefly on some of my studio homework, and just hung out at home. I watched netflix briefly and cuddled with my cat for a bit, which was nice. A little before 4 my dad and stepmom left for a concert, leaving me alone in the house. At 4 I headed over to my mom’s and talked about college with my stepdad for a bit. Then my mom came down from taking a shower and we talked further about college stuff. After that we went to supper with my grandparent’s in a nearby town. When we returned home I got to pop open my senior yearbook that my mom had picked up for me. It mentioned some of my big accomplishments of the year, and it felt really nice to be recognized for the hard work I did. When I was done I headed to bed.
9/8 - On Sunday morning my family went to our town’s local flight breakfast at the little airport just outside of town. Idk what it is about mass produced pancakes on a supper old griddle, but they SLAP. I got to see some kids I graduated with and some coworkers too. After breakfast I made energy bites for a while, and around mid-afternoon we went to my grandparent’s house. My grandma had made me scotcharoos and rice krispie treats which was really sweet. We got to check out a room in the basement that my grandparents had redone, and it looks pretty good! We also got to look at some old pictures my grandma was going through. After that we all returned upstairs to watch NASCAR and talk about everything under the sun. When suppertime was rolling around, we returned home so my mom could get started on the spaghetti. After supper was done and stuff was being cleaned up, I packed my stuff up and got ready for the 2hr drive back. I listened to the Heathers musical soundtrack and now I can’t stop listening to it. Whoops. When I got back I started the 2 block ‘trek’ back to my room with 2 bags and a heavy laundry basket full of snacks because I ain’t no bitch who takes two trips. I should’ve taken two trips. I had to take a break 3 times before I got to my room. It’s important to note that while I was walking down the hall to my room a guy stopped me and told me to vote for him as treasurer and another guy for hall president (which I did). As I finally made it into my room and set down all of my shit, I realized I couldn’t really move my arms. I ended up asking Parker if he could come help me unpack, which he kindly did, and I repaid him with some energy bites. We sat and talked a little bit about our weekends and the coming weekend, and then we parted ways and went to bed.
9/9 - Waking up for class was a bitch but class was alright when I got there. I didn’t do much other than attempt to catch up on the homework I didn’t do over the weekend for my studio.
9/10 - Tuesday was pretty ehh. I wore a super cute outfit and got complimented on it by a lot of people which was really nice. I would’ve had a supper shitty day without it, and I truly appreciated it. I was freaking out a lil all day because I hadn’t completed a drawing yet that was due the next day, so I spent a few hours working on that. I went to my studio lecture and had a small panic attack and a bit of an identity crisis. I also thought heavily about if I’m actually capable, worthy, and skilled enough to be and do what I want to be. That was fun. I was finally able to calm myself down enough to go eat quick, finish up my drawings, and then go visit Parker. It was really nice to see him again and it really helped just being with him for a lil bit. I returned to my dorm, showered, and went to bed.
9/11 - It was pretty rainy and gross all day, but I luckily missed most of the rain and stuff. My studio took a bit of a toll on me mentally. I guess I hadn’t realized just how stressed I was and that I really wasn’t giving myself a break. For the past week I had been stuck on a ‘if I don’t stop working I’ll die’ kind of mindset. I broke down a little in class which was great. It doesn’t help that it’s my period week either. It was basically just my eyes constantly dripping tears and me being unable to stop it without going somewhere to cry for a bit (which wasn’t an option). This carried on until like the last 10 minutes of my next class (so 1.5 hrs of crying). After class I went to lunch, went back to my dorm to do homework, and went to the College of Design to work on a sketch for like an hour. I couldn’t focus so I said fuck it, went and got myself some half priced sushi from hyvee + some other little things, returned to my dorm, and watched Natural Born Killers. I honestly had a really nice night just sitting for a bit and relaxing briefly. When the movie was over I showered and went to bed.
9/12 - On Thursday I had a plan for the whole day + Friday. I was determined to get everything on my list started at the time I had listed, and finnish everything around the time I wanted to be done with it. I got up and got breakfast at 8:30, had class at 9, lunch at 11, did math homework at 11:30, went to class at noon, did more homework in the CoD, worked on a sketch there, went to my lecture at 3:20, and had a meeting at 4:30. My meeting got over at like 4:50, and I booked it back to my dorm as I could see a storm coming and I didn’t have a rain coat or umbrella. I made it back to my dorm shortly after it had started sprinkling, and had 2 min to spare before the heavens opened up and it POURED. I took a lil shower so I could keep on track with my schedule without getting off track.I went to supper at 6ish, left for the CoD at 6:30, and made it there a little before 7! I had snacks packed for when I would inevitably get hungry, and was fully prepared to finish my first sketchbook assignment. I left the CoD at like 9:30 and returned to my dorm at 10ish. I had another snack and started a book my dad had given me before I went to bed.
9/13 - Today I attempted to wake up at 6:30. This did not work, and so I slept in until 7. I didn’t have a class until noon, but I wanted to spend the morning in the studio. I went to breakfast with a former classmate, and then got to the CoD just after 8am. I spent from 8-12:20 working on sketches and taking little breaks every hour or so. I received an email at like 10am from my math prof. telling us class was canceled, which was fucking stellar. At around 12:50 I met up with my dad to go out and eat sushi. I had a pretty good time talking with him and the food was spectacular as always. After that we took a brief trip to the Earl May across the street before he dropped me off at my dorm. I had hoped to get back to work on studio stuff, but I decided not to since I had already done that all morning. I instead went to the Club Fest thing held in a building near me and I signed up to hear more about a bunch of clubs such as birding, film making, theatre, and even fencing! I’m excited to join a club and actually meet people. After that I went back to my dorm to grab some cash so I could then return to that same building and do a pottery painting workshop! It was Stranger Things themed, and I got to paint a mug with some cute lil shapes on it. I’ll have to wait until next week to see what the finished product looks like, but I’m excited. While I was painting I got to talk to a couple of girls next to me who seemed cool. We didn’t exchange info so I’ll probs sadly never see them again. Oh well. After painting I returned to my dorm again and read a couple books on the outside steps leading into the building. When I felt like I had had enough, I went to supper and had some cereal. I came back to my dorm and listened to music for a little bit and sang to myself and just did fun weird shit that I can’t do when someone else is here. I then showered, and started writing this big ass post! I’ve currently been writing for like 2 hrs, but It’s so worth it. It feels really nice to finally have this crossed off my to do list and to just write about stuff. I really do enjoy writing, and I think I’ve been needing this. I’m kinda figuring out how to balance work with play in a healthy way that works for me, and I think I’ve partially gotten the hang of it. I’m hoping to finish most, if not all of my homework sometime on Sunday so I can give myself time to relax tomorrow. I’m so ready to let loose a little and have some fun. I think everyone else is too lol. It’s like 11:52pm and it seems like everyone in my dorm is still up and doin shit. It’s fine with me though. I’m ready for a batshit crazy gameday. I’ll likely catch y’all up to speed on Sunday. Until then, Bye for now!
