For the animatic I straight up used cap cut on my iPad. There’s a lot of tutorials online for how I made the art moved you can look up ‘tweening CapCut’ tutorials and they’re probably more helpful than how I’d explain it.

In theory using after effects or a better video editing program would probably be better and more efficient but I’m lazy. Tbh CapCut gets the job done and it’s free but I recommend using whatever you feel comfortable with

For computer I use a... idk what type of computer I have, I bought it at the end of last year but idk the name LOL sorry

For tablet, I use a Wacom Intuos Draw CTL-490 white tablet, I have had this bad boy since 2018, this things are very good and durable! 10/10

And for program, I use FireAlpaca! (it's free and very complete imo) for editing I use CapCut and sometimes Filmora

I did Part 1 (this one) and Part 15

Part 1 is The Internet graveyard but Halloween themed. Terrance has returned from the dead :O (which doesn't make sence since he evaporated but whatever, REBORN FROM THE ATOMS LMAO 💪), Smg3 turned into a vampire (loosely inspired by Coralalala64's vampireAU), and eggdog is a wolf 🐺 (I used the irl model I created of him instead of drawing him lol)

I drew the assets traditionally and edited them and drew backgrounds on krita, then animated it all together on capcut, idk how either, lots of trial and error thats for sure :')

I want to make an edit for the first time but I'm kind of overwhelmed by the scope/not sure where to begin. answering the software question is easy: I recently started using capcut, it's free and I like it a lot! (I used to use clipchamp which has less features, but is maybe a bit more straightforward)

getting ideas is the hard part lol. I think I only have lame answers :/

for normal compilations I usually have a clip (or a few) and a theme/joke/vibe/meme I really want to use and i do some research(search it on Tumblr) or rewatch the videos (or look through the clips I have already saved) to find other moments that follow the same theme. (I try to make them funny, I'm not sure it works, but they are funny to me lol)

for song edits i usually have the song and at least one clip that are already linked in my brain lol like rush by Troye Sivan and the poppers jokes, they just go together lol. sometimes I read the lyrics and try to remember or search for clips that work with them. idk it's something that just clicks in my head lol. this sounds so 💀💀💀 I'm sorry lolol.

so idk the only advice I have is:

1.if you're using a song, working on it first makes things so much easier (cut it/choose the parts you want/read the lyrics) and then add the clips

2.adjust the audio levels (even if there's no song) (especially if you're using clips from dystopia daily lol it's super quiet for some reason)

3.try to build some kind of database of clips, so you don't have to go back and rewatch the videos a million times to find a 2 seconds clip (speaking from experience) (save them or make a list idk) (also I screen record and don't download, I know someone from another fandom that says that screen recording is bad but personally i never had any issues w it lol)

4.follow your heart, follow your brain, look at the software's filters, transitions, effects and sounds and text and use them all lol. I think ultimately most people have their own style and their own humour and sensibility. there's no right or wrong, so try to find what works for you, what you find funny or pretty or interesting, you know? it's kind of a bad answer but that's all I can think about, you need to find what you enjoy first and then build on it

I'm sure phil was better at giving editing tips lmao, but I hope this helped in some way! I never get to talk about editing, so my thoughts are all over the place lol.

All of this is so GREAT omfg. YES absolutely, there are many edits of these rockstars.

Micah would absolutely eat it up. He THRIVES on attention, and he'd obsess over the latest trends for his edits.

Xander would act indifferent, knowing this sort of thing comes with the territory. BUT as a former teen heart-throb (think former teen Disney Channel star vibes), he does get embarrassed and annoyed if any clips of his previous acting roles are ever used KSDLFJ. He does not like that time in his life to be brought up (unless a certain someone (Grayson) is the one to bring it up. I may be working on a short of this LOL.)

After chatting about it with @marydublinauthor, here's more Fun Facts.

Micah absolutely makes his own edits of himself too. Everly sees them and thinks they're weak. She makes even better ones that got tons of hits on a secret account.

In retaliation, he records her doing electrical work and just generally existing, and proceeds to make private edits. They laugh over homemade and fanmade edits together, and it gets very romantic and they make out.

There are ABSOLUTELY fanfics about them too. Everly thinks the Micah Tate x Xander Dalton smut is the absolute funniest thing ever. She reads those out loud to them in a sexy voice. She probably perches somewhere high where they can't reach her.

Micah loves it, Xander rolls his eyes, and Grayson blushes in the corner somewhere and pretends he's not hanging on to every word.

ANYWAYS. uhh well for one i pretty much always do my transitions like this now so shoutout to this tiktok you are doing the most for me. idk i feel like i do pretty simple edits for what it’s worth my steps are like find audio -> add clips -> trim clips -> agonize over the order of my clips -> twixtor (but only sometimes. you can tell when i don’t do it) -> transition effects -> then i do the intro which is usually like. halo blur or fps lag. and if i’m feeling like i hate myself i’ll do text

oh then velocity uhh i do this one. i think there’s more than one way to do velo on capcut idk i’ve always done this (and this is the tutorial i watched thank you youtube)

Learning Outcomes

Sound editing :

I got to navigate Adobe Premiere Pro more comfortably. I have a basic idea of which tool does what like how to lower the tone of a voice, keyboard shortcuts, and knowing how to avoid issues that may come up while exporting and saving. Example : when creating a new project, the location/folder we choose is where the Premiere Pro file saves into. So if you want to be able to find the autosave files and the premiere file in order to continue editing where you left off have to be mindful of where we save. The location we choose when exporting the file in whichever format we need is also important. If we forget to specify the folder it's hard to find it especially when in a hurry..... (totally not speaking from experience here).

My experience with Adobe Audition was messy. Like I've mentioned before, the effects I want to apply to just one clip keeps getting applied to all the clips. It took me a few attempts to realize this. I did not have time to check for any tutorials either. Anyways I prefer to learn on my own since my actions autosave into my brain when compared to following a tutorial where I have to manually save the info to my brain.

Observation :

Learning how sounds are connected to visuals and how much attention we should give to the soundtrack of any media. Learnt how to focus on sound design rather than moving images as we usually do. For example I realize that the podcast module from semester one has taught me how important sound is and how much of an impact it has on the audience. I should be able to imagine the visuals from just the audio if I edit it right and find the right audios.

Final thoughts :

I know I still have a lot to learn and improve but hopefully I have some sort of progress in comparison to the first semester. I feel more comfortable with using Adobe software when during the first semester we were inclined to keep using Capcut.

I didn't know what the word "foley" was before but now I know and I can add the word to my "Animation Industry" vocabulary. I have seen videos of sound designers from disney adding life to the visuals from a bunch of simple tools like sticks and drums but I didn't realize how hard it is to record.

I had fun recording all the audios (idk how to put emojis on laptop so -insert LOL emoji- ). We were all laughing while recording the screaming parts. Good thing we used the 13th floor. Last time we screamed inside the bathroom area and gave everyone a heart attack.

I also learnt how to not be stuck in one place trying to perfect one thing and move on. Come back and work on it only if I have time. This applies to all the modules.

Also idek if I told y’all but the entirety of season 1 and up to maybe episode 20 of season 2 were all edited on my phone. All I used was the CapCut app. I used to have to upload the videos to Dropbox and then download them onto my phone. It was a whole thing lol. Idk I thought it was easier at the time.

The way I’d love to redo the first season of Lykaia one day. I think about it often. We would’ve seen more of Imogen’s life in Nevada. I think I would’ve included Cale’s backstory in the first episode too. If I knew what Lykaia would’ve turned into then I would’ve done things so differently. First season really was just a test to see how filmmaking would worked in the sims. I just made things up as I went based off my gameplay save. Now that I have an actual story in mind, that changes everything.

How do you make your edits? Is there a software you use? Asking because I was watching your Bill Finley edit and it's amazing!!! I love how you matched up him saying 'What happened' in Sisters to the 'what's happening' lyric. Idk how new you would be to editing so here’s a mini kinda tutorial I guess lol

My process is that I either download the song I wanna use with a YouTube to mp4 downloader site (idk why I do mp4 and not mp3) or screen record the section of song I wanna use on my phone or tablet from either YouTube or Spotify. If it’s a tiktok audio I just save the video directly from the app. Then I put the video of the audio into whatever software I’m using. 99% of the time it’s just iMovie on my computer because that’s what I’ve used since I was a kid, although I’m also trying out CapCut, which is for mobile devices. It’s a bit finicky to use but has a greater capacity for flashy, trendy looking edits. Both programs are totally free. For video clips I also just screen record on my tablet (current favorite 🏴‍☠️ site to find clips for movies being lookmovie2.to, but obviously use caution on these sites).

I’m sure there are plenty of people who could give you way better advice on how to do it, so I’d also encourage you to look for that. Cuz yeah, like you said, I mostly make my little video edits because not because I’m trying to become internet famous, I do it because they are what I want to see, so I’m not that worried if they’re perfect or not. Anyways, how this helped and happy trails :).
