Thanks for the prompt, anon! I'm sorry this took me soooooo long to get to! Under the cut are ~500 words of jealous!Dan with a bit of fluff at the end.

Dan is quick to jealousy. He always has been - ever since he was a kid. If his brother got the ice cream flavor he was eyeing, if he had to share his toys with another child, if his friends made plans without him. 

Dan’s never wanted anything as badly as he’s wanted Phil, so of course he’s had his moments of envy over the years. He’s bad at hiding it, he knows. Phil, the perpetual lurker, tells him that their fans are very much aware of it. 

Today, Dan’s in a terrible mood. He woke up in his tiny tour bunk with what felt like the weight of the world on his shoulders and it’s made him snippy and short with Phil all day. Dan had wanted to go get coffee alone to try to clear his head but Phil insisted on coming with him. To make matters worse, Phil has been making eyes at the barista and it’s starting to piss Dan off. Dan’s not stupid - he knows some random barista isn’t going to steal his partner, knows that flirting is just something Phil does for fun - not out of any real desire to be with someone else - but today it’s getting under his skin. Dan’s feeling impulsive so he ignores his therapist’s voice in his head, taking the opening when he sees it. 

“Keep the change,” he tells the barista with a flirtatious smirk, biting his lip in a way that he knows Phil likes. The barista matches his smirk. 

“Thanks…”

“Dan.”

“Thanks, Dan.” He picks up a Sharpie and scribbles something on Dan’s coffee cup. The barista hands it back to him and Dan grins when he sees it’s the man’s name and number. He is never going to call Jeff but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t feel a sick jolt of triumph. 

“Really?” Phil asks when they’ve walked away from the counter, drinks in hand. 

“Really,” Dan says. He’d expected Phil to roll his eyes, to sigh, but Phil just seems amused. 

“Well I’m excited to watch Dan and Jeff Games. What’s your ship name? Deff? Jan?”

Phil’s eyes are crinkled at the corners and he’s doing his endearing tongue biting smile as he holds back a chuckle. God, he’s beautiful. 

 “I think he thought you were cuter,” Dan finds himself saying. He doesn’t know if it’s true or not but he’s sick of fighting and has always loved complimenting Phil. 

“Probably,” Phil says with a smug grin that makes Dan laugh. 

“I’m still mad at you,” Dan says even though he’s not, not really. 

“No, you’re not.” 

Dan sighs. “Fine. I’m not. Sorry for being a jealous prick.”

Phil touches his arm, letting his fingers linger. “I can stop the flirting if it really bothers you.”

“No, no. Today’s just…”

“A bad day,” Phil supplies, squeezing his arm. 

“Yeah. But it’s a bit better now.” He doesn’t elaborate, trusting Phil to fill in the blanks - now that you’re smiling at me, now that you’re touching me, now that you’ve reminded me you’re always on my side.
