I just got the weirdest hate comment. Basically, this woman who has loved all my stories and commented on them for months found out I'm a cis man. And now she hates my F/F stories. She's now decided they're "fetish fuel" for "your lesbian kink" and "you probably write with one hand down your pants".
None of these stories have steamy scenes. One, I suck at writing those. A lot. A lot a lot. Two, the women are busy saving the world. That's stressful and stress makes some people's horniness go way down, so I always assumed they wouldn't be in the mood until the villain is defeated, you know? Three, some of these stories have middle school aged characters and I find people older than me hot, so I have literally, truly not thought once against their sex lives. I assumed they were going on dates like I was at 13 - movies, hang out at the mall, playing video games, that stuff. Nobody I knew was getting laid at 13. (I didn't get laid until I was 20, personally, but idk what the statistics on that are.)
So it's really weird that she's suddenly angry at me. I know most of the fans of the show are women. I get why she assumed I was one. Totally valid. Statistically that makes sense. It's the jump from "you are male" to "you're getting off to this" that I don't get. Don't get me wrong, I know some guys like F/F and some women like M/M. But liking writing/reading something doesn't mean you get off to it.
(Also utter side tangent but I don't like her using lesbian to refer to bi characters. That's... not how that works. Bi people don't become straight or lesbian or gay depending on who they date.)
Can someone explain to me? I think my neurodivergent ass is missing a lot here and I'm lost.
--
Radfem nonsense.
Look up lesbian separatism as a political thing to find the sorts of women who think all men are inherently suspect, dangerous, predatory, etc. Some of them are also TERFs and think trans women are men and predators, but this general attitude on gender happens even without the transphobia.
Basically, she thinks you snuck into her exclusive clubhouse and got your cooties on it.
Some femslash fans do view this type of fandom as an expression of their identity, not just a thing they enjoy, and being confronted with the reality that it can also just be a fiction taste and the space isn't all people like them making a space for people like them can be upsetting. She's being a jerk and not responding to your actual work or your actual self, but if you want to know why, that's why.

Izzy doesn't even have a coming to terms with his sexuality arc in season 2 it's much closer to gender, and I've seen a similar gender expression journey to Izzy in season 2 on the middle aged straight dads of queer children. I'm gonna gear my description of what happens towards a father and son example because Izzy's hang ups are very much about toxic masculinity, but I'm a transgender man and I'm on the journey I'm about to describe with my formerly borderline terf mom, so it can apply to other genders.
Anyway: At first the dad who I'm positing is like Izzy punishes his son for putting on a skirt or holding hands with a boy, then he realizes how badly trying to suppress his kid's sexuality is hurting his kid, who he loves in spite of the way he's treating him, so he does his best to change his mind and learn about the queer community and then eventually he goes to a pride event in an I love my gay son shirt and then the son feels like he can finally bring his boyfriend over for dinner and maybe someday the dad apologizes even though its awkward or maybe they let it go unspoken. I've even had a friend who put his reformed homophobic dad in drag makeup for TikTok content.
I'm not saying that's exactly what happened to Izzy, I suppose if we mapped this onto Izzy's journey Ed would be the son but a big part of Izzy getting better was him having a bunch of gay coworkers do something nice for him in a way that had nothing to do with Ed, which doesnt usually happen with the reformed parents, or maybe it does idk I've only experienced it as the queer child or as friend of the queer child so I wouldn't know. Also they usually don't perform in drag shows. But I would also say that they aren't usually pirates on boats where every single other person is queer in some way. The places where Izzy diverges off this path have nothing to do with Izzy coming to terms with any lust for men he may or may not have and everything to do with the setting he's in.
Also to be clear I'm not saying Izzy is straight, I'm just saying the jury is still out. He could have been out the whole time or he could have come out in 2.02 when he said "I have love for you" or he could have meant that platonically and died in the closet or he could have meant that completely platonically and been straight or aro/ace, but whatever way you slice that his season 2 arc is way less about coming out and coming to terms with his own sexuality and way more about learning to accept Ed for who he is and every other queer person around him by proxy.

I saw a post the other day about someone being pissed that people were calling Eddie gay instead of bi only because they couldn't handle more than one bisexual person on a show. Now, I didn't make Eddie gay/demi, he was born that way, BUT it got me thinking, because the whole crew feels very fruity? SO, I want to get your guys' opinions on what you think the rest of the characters are. (JUST the characters. We're not speculating on the actors. We all know this.) I'm going to put mine below & I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts :) These are by vibes only. As a definite demisexual and probable bi woman, idk how great my gaydar is, but sexuality is a spectrum & straight isn't the default, so let's go!!
Bobby - 0% fruity. That is a straight, middle aged white man (affectionate) if I've ever seen one.
Athena - Also straight.
Chim - Chim feels very straight to me, but that scene with the bachelor had me peering at him a little closer, because I've never watched the Bachelor, but it looked like Joey (I think that was the bachelor's name, right? I've never watched a single episode of that show so I have no idea) had been around before, so I couldn't tell if he was like, starstruck, or "Wow that's a pretty boy and it's making me feel things" -struck 😂
Maddie - I don't get many vibes from her either, but I also have a vague fic idea of Madney breaking up in s4/s5 and her ending up with Shannon instead, so idk, maybe she's just unlabeled but somewhere on the spectrum of queerness?
Shannon - Bi vibes
Taylor Kelly - 100% bi, I refuse to hear any other argument.
Lucy Donato - This is a pansexual woman if I've ever seen one, you cannot convince me otherwise. (Also, the most interesting AND likable of Buck's female LI's, argue with the wall. Lucy, they'll never make me hate you bby 🩷💛💙.)
Lena Bokso - Lesbian vibes, for sure. I don't think there was ANY romantic undertones with her and Eddie (Which, I'm not saying that's the only reason I think she's a lesbian. She can like men and not like Eddie. Even if she did, Eddie wasn't in a place to do anything with those feelings, but I saw a post about that pairing recently & wanted to throw my 2 cents in)
May Grant - May also gives off queer vibes, and I've seen other view her as full wlw, but I think she gives off more bi/pan vibes?
Ravi - This man is soommmeee kind of queer that I just cannot put my finger on. I've seen him HC'd as gay, pan, & ace in some way, and I can honestly rock w/ any of the 3 of them. All I know is that he is not a straight man lol.
Albert - Also unsure about him, but if someone were to tell me that he was bi, I could definitely see it. I think that's influenced by the fic that had him, Ravi & May in a throuple, which was genuinely so cute.
Ana - Dr. Flores doesn't give off queer vibes for me, but that could be bc she was criminally underdeveloped & we know practically nothing about her.
Natalia - See above ^^
Ali Martin - Same ^^ although I could see her just being queer and not being more specific than that. Maybe she's straight, who knows. I literally forgot about her until I was looking up actor/actress names 😂
M*risol - straight & homophobic lmfao
Abby - Literally could not care less about her, but I wanted to include her so I could talk about her possibly being Tommy Kinard's ex-girlfriend and her coming back to LA for whatever reason and finding her ex-boyfriends happy & having totally forgotten about her predatory ass.
Also, obviously not speculating about any of the children, bc they're still children, even if they're fictional. It's icky.
I think that's all the main/reoccurring characters that we don't already know about, let me know if I missed any.
Talk about being the gay firefighter show, how accurate lmfao.

So I did a thing (extra rare)
I ended up moving to the US for college, so I watched some fucking movies during my flights (so fun!!). I legit texted my friends the same things about these movies, but like, who tf cares actually, right???
First plane: Frankenstein theme apparently cause after watching the first movie, my brain went, "heY, how funny would it be to watch another movie with this specific aspects in commoN, but the vibes are COMPLETELY different?" 1. Poor Things: uH it was interesting, though there was a ton of sex lol, which I either skipped or spaced out during cause I wasn't interested in that, though I get why they put it. This specific movie left me sorta conflicted since it's interesting to see a character like Bella gain her independence through the course of the story due to her mental age rapidly changing from infant to adult woman and gaining experience through exploring the outside world. However, I also see how the "born-sexy yesterday" troupe can be used to describe her, even though the point of the movie was for her to find herself sexually and intellectually. Most of the men in the movie, even her father figure, who implanted the infant brain in her, has referred to wanting sexual relations (her father/creator does say it as a passing comment) or sexually takes advantage of her (Mark Ruffalo's character legit "touchs" her within a minute of meeting her cause of his rakeish nature) and the original person's whose body she's in's husband is one of the people of all time 🤠. However, that was probably part of the point to show her discovering herself. Maybe her father's assistant "Max" was the most chill outta them, but I feel like I'm missing something about him idk. Overall, it was a polarizing movie, but unless most ppl who either loved or hated this movie, I'm somewhere in the middle. 2. Lisa Frankenstein: Lisa Frankenstein was just a fun movie, like it didn't take itself seriously plus Cole Sprouse being the love interest working better since he has to keep his yap shut for most of the movie until the last scene is so funny to me. The main girl is really good at being the lead of campy horror, like her delivery is really good man - and I probably should watch more movies she's in- Second plane: pride month mF / Rachel Sennott IS the theme actually- 3. Bottoms: insane as fuck, like maN, I can't begin to explain it, like whoA- uH, comedy of the fucking century, the one liners and fucking HAZEL JESUS IM GAY 😭 4. Shiva Baby: anxiety the movie fr, like brUH?? Rachel's character kept making mistake after mistake but people always asking her to do stuff within the movie at random points and her using them them as ways to escape consequences temporary is jusT- not her sending her nudes to the guY when his WIFE and BABY were there and when his wife found out, OHHHHH BOYYYY, not her forcing Rachel's character to hold the baby when she was basically the side chick (which she didn't know about until that day, but still continued, but I support women's wrongs iG 🤷‍♀️) and the gAYS in the CAR, I will take that hand holding at the end as a happy ending fuck EVERYTHING-

EP 3 aka the Trent Crimm Manifesto. Lessgo
-- Ultimate Girlboss Rebecca is such a fun opener
-- i know fanfic ppl make fun of Ted for not exploring London but he went visiting Big Ben this ep so idk man. Tho i do love the trope of his British beau showing Mr Kansas the sights so I'll let it slide. This time.
-- Ted's hair keeps falling into his face so kudos to everyone who's called him 'boyish' yallre so right
-- and the start of the Coach Nate arc begins!
-- 'flattering silhouette' this episode, with the soft shoeing last episode.......no straight man from Kansas talks like this babe
-- the Ted/Keeley friendship really falls off at some point but my god is it entertaining
-- Colin and Isaac were right dicks in this episode holy hell. Colin i kinda get, hyper masculinity allows him to stay in the closet but Isaac??? For shame
-- ah Trent. The suit-converse combo, the big dick swagger, the little bemused self-satisfied smile whenever Ted makes a stupid joke........ I've said it before and I'll say it again, what I wouldn't give to peg that man
-- Roy loving Step Brothers is such a funny detail
-- Keeley wolf-whistling a shirtless Roy is iconic. Also Roy's impression of Ted is Fucking Hilarious
-- the chemistry with Roy and Keeley is palpable and i love it
-- there was actually no reason for Ted to be changing in his office with Trent right there. Not one.
-- Bi Keeley literally starts so early why was anyone surprised? She begged to see a pic of Rebecca's tits before they were even friends, then said multiple times that she couldn't stop thinking about them
-- Trent was forced to sit amongst the school kids at the school award ceremony which is fucking hilarious
-- he also knows the plot of A Wrinkle In Time off the top of his head and loves it. Trent is my fav character for a reason y'all.
-- i forgot their little date was to the restaurant of the chauffeur from ep 1 that's so cute 🥺
-- 'Trent, what do you love?' and Trent's face of absolute panic.... No one's ever asked him that before 🥺
-- Trent's slow realisation that Ted really is just so refreshingly earnest all the time... Poetry
-- 'I can't help but root for him' like i know the point is that Trent is the layman viewer, contextually as a standin for the average community member but in meta as a standin for the viewer of the tv show, someone who's most likely familiar with sports dramas, so Trent falling in love with Ted is actually a great allegory for fans of the show. Also I'm gay and want those middle aged men to fuck nasty on screen even if i know it's never gonna happen. That's simply my cross to bear 🫡

My Thoughts After Re-Watching Season 2
Tumblr media
Hiya everybody. Sorry for the long times between posts. Working two jobs and keeping a social life, while also trying to sleep, eat healthy and get hydrated is taking a toll on this account. Bright side is, that because of the whole Corona situation, I might spend a lot of time home soon. So head-up, another headcanon/theory is coming this week, but just to break the hiatus, I decided to write today.
Every now and then, I decide to re-watch one of the three seasons of the show, just so I could have something to fill my time. So, recently I decided to watch season 2 again, and, as I like, pick up on some details, ideas or thoughts I didn’t get during previous binges. I’ve watched this season, like the others, around four or five times now since release, maybe more - and yet I’m still genuinely surprised at the things I notice or realize every time. So I figured I might turn it into a list of the good, the bad, and the plain interesting.
This list is in no particular order, I just write my thoughts as they go.
1. I am still BLOWN AWAY by how good the writing is on this show. It may not be an Oscar-winning script, but for a teen show of the early 2000′s it’s amazingly deep and well thought of, from every angle. That what makes my theories so fun to make, because they planted so much information throughout the shows that I genuinely enjoy picking out details and information from it.
2. To go into more depth, I really enjoyed all the different storylines they brought in throughout the 26 episodes. Look, twenty-six episodes is a lot for a TV series. Most shows release around 10, since long storylines are hard to follow and are easy to get messy. But while they added so many side stories (Max and the original mermaids, Ash and Emma, Cleo and Lewis’ breakup and Charlotte getting in between),. each of these stories merged with the main plot so well, and actually added depth to the story, making it more complicated for the characters, and more interactive for the viewer.
3. While the main focus for the season was the Cleo-Lewis-Charlotte  relationship, both Emma and Rikki had their romantic paths taken as well. But unlike season 1, where the couples fought for screen time, this time those relationships were put to the side in favour of the main plot, which made them more slow-paced and interesting to watch. I enjoyed the fact that Emma and Ash stayed in the dark throughout the entire season, and that Zane only appeared when he was needed. Both are good characters, but not needed every time.
4. On the other hand, Cleo and Lewis’ relationship was handled very maturely all through the season. From when they dated, through the post-breakup, and all the way to managing being friends, the relationship was very well looked into and explored.
5. Might be a side thing, but I loved that Ash was actually figuring out something was off about Emma. One of my favourite lines by him was, “You realize none of this is natural. But you already knew that.” (Ep. 26) Mostly in shows like these, the character either never questions the weird occurrences around them, or the curiosity fuel the storyline (like Zane in season 1). The writer really wrote out of pure logic and not out of plot requirements, and I dig that little detail.
6. This one is felt throughout the entire show, but was most dominant during this one. The show is not about mermaids at all. This is written as a show about three girls and their coming of age process, and the things they have to deal with, one of them being turned into mermaids. But it’s far from being the only problem these girls have, and it’s showing when some episodes really struggle to squeeze in scenes of the girls in their tails for pure rating, even when the plot is not in need of any mermaid action. The girls have a very full and normal lifestyle aside from being mermaids. They go out, go shopping, have other friends, work, study and fail, deal with personal issues at home or with partners. The tails are just another part of their lives and I love it.
7. Episode 23 is a turning point for Charlotte’s character arch. I’ve spoken greatly before about how I feel like Charlotte is seen in our minds as the “bad guy” while she was a nice character most of her time on the show. And she was! Up until episode 23 when was never trying to hurt the girls. She may have acted out of jealousy before towards Cleo, but she was insecure and worried about her boyfriend. What should she think when her boyfriend spends a whole lot of time with his ex and fails to explain to her exactly why? The show did a great job showing the point of both sides in the argument between the girls and Charlotte, and showed the entire process of how their relationship turned into what it was.  A lot of ego, assumptions, and false worries, and a lot of unfortunate events. Episode 23 was really a turning point because that’s where both sides of the fight were really right in different ways, things that led Charlotte to want to go on her own, and the girls to stay away from her. Charlotte acted the way she did because she felt like the girls were treating her badly (which she was wrong about sometimes, but they too hold the blame, mostly Rikki). From episode 24 and on, she started acting as the “bad guy” the show built her to be, and even then I can see her side. But enough on that.
8. Lewis is hot. Idk what’s up with Charlotte’s eyebrows.
9. One thing that feels off every time is how quickly Lewis started dating Charlotte. I don’t blame a guy for moving on quickly, I do find it weird that during the post-breakup from Cleo, he not only protected Cleo’s respect and jealousy by not flirting with any other girl, but also didn’t really seem like he was into Charlotte at all. She was a good friend at the beginning, then Cleo got in the middle, and for some reason, Charlotte did her best to rub it in Cleo’s face that she wants Lewis. But he never, for once, showed interest back until Cleo gave him permission to move on, and all of a sudden they’re dating. What I'm saying is that Lewis never seemed to like Charlotte romantically, like she liked him. So that was weird, they just never felt right together.
10. The reason Charlotte mastered her powers so quickly, at least in my eyes, is because that a) she had the girls to explain her at least the basics, and b) she didn’t put herself into a box of ‘this is what I was given’, bc she wanted to be better than Cleo at every cost. Her will power helped her master her powers. While the girls dealt with learning their boundaries and abilities and adjusting into the new life they got, Charlotte learned about mermaids before her transformation and knew what she was getting into.
11. The show never shied away from real-life issues, that may be considered inappropriate or harsh to the audiences the show is targeted at. Handling with divorce (and the outcomes of it!) and parents starting dating again (true story, Cleo’s way to handle with Sam’s introduction into her father’s life helped me cope when my mother started dating men a couple of years ago), while also showing signs of LGBT references (Nate mentioned people think Lewis is gay, in other words) or even sexual harassment and consent (both when Rikki was mad at Zane for kissing her against her will, and when Ash’s apology to Emma when he believed Lewis thought he was trying to have sex with her/spy on her showering, which to remind y’all, she was 16 while he was 18). It’s so brief I never noticed it before, but once I did, it was hard to miss.
12. And lastly, I just love how this show treats science. So much real life and true scientific information is included in the lines of the story, mainly by Lewis, but also by other characters like Will, Cleo, Lowrey, Max and Dr. Denman. When they wrote the entire base to what mermaids are and how they exist, they didn’t care it was a show for goddamn 9-year-olds, and that what makes it so interesting. If you’re not into science, let me tell you that every scientific blurb or word you hear on the show is 100%% real and makes sense within its context. From talking about marine biology, to referring to mermaids groups ‘pods’ (which is a group of marine mammals in scientific terms), to the science of “magic” and mermaids as a whole, the show knows what it’s doing is within the realms of possibility from a scientific point of view, meaning none of it is real, but it could be, in another life.
Anyways, if you have anything else to add, feel free! This is your list as it is mine. I just really love this show and I wish people appreciated it the same way we do. When I tell people I like this show they remember it as just another kids TV show, and it’s so much more than that.
Hope you’re having a great day, be safe, and wash your hands (just not in front fo people, keep the secret safe!)
Until next time, maybe not as far as you think. xx

how did you know for sure that you’re gay and not bi because lately i’ve really been thinking like: do i ever want to be with a guy? I find guys physically attractive and all but sometimes I’m like Idk am I just gay? It’s weird because in the beginning I felt kind of uncomfortable even seeing girls kiss, let alone have sex on tv shows, and now I just find myself thinking about having a gf much more often than a bf... first world teenage problems amirite? 🤪
I think I started to realize that I wasn't bisexual when I thought back to how I used to fantasize about dating/being with girls when I was dating my high school boyfriend. I dated that guy for almost two years and never kissed him once and I would rarely hold his hand. Tell me if I'm wrong, but that’s not exactly heterosexual or bisexual behavior. I am 100% certified lesbian but there are men that I find physically attractive but that doesn't invalidate my sexuality. We can’t help noticing when people are attractive but what matters in terms of sexual orientation is if you’d want to be with that person (sexually, romantically, whatever).
When I was a lot younger probably elementary to middle school age I used to get very uncomfortable at the sight of wlw on tv. It might've been some internalized homophobia or sumn.
Just because you’re thinking about wanting a girlfriend more than a boyfriend currently also doesn’t make you any less bi. Some bi people have a romantic preference to one gender and sexual preference towards the other. Sexuality and gender is all over the place and you’re young so you shouldn’t sweat it. As you grow older and gain new experiences as well as learn more about yourself things will fall into place and make sense. Maybe you’re not bi, maybe you’re a lesbian or maybe you’ll decide to live without labels. None of it truly matters as long as you’re happy with who you are and who you love.
xoxo

Straight into the heart (2020) by Per Alexandersson
Why are the characters talking like old people? Why is the narrative so hateful? This short story is about a junior high student named Jonas, who is secretly into guys. When he one day is invited to his friend Eddy's place to play a car racing game, Jonas instinctively accidentally kisses Eddy on the shoulder. Eddy has a homophobic fit and Jonas runs home to spend the rest of the day worrying about being outed at school and bullied.
Instead this bizarre scene plays out, where Eddy approaches him the next day, to admit that the explosion was because he just hate losing in games. He won't tell anyone about the kiss. Totally ignoring the homophobic rant he had? But Eddy also tells Jonas that ANOTHER guy once touched him inappropriately too, their classmate Sebastian. Jonas hearing this, now knowing Sebastian might be gay too, instantly falls in love and talks about pursuing him next. Just.. ????? no.
This is actually a re-published novel, originally called "You creep!" from 2013. The words "fag" (bög) and "faggot" (bögjävel) is heavily used as a slur. The protagonist describes himself as a creep. Idk, the script feels really outdated, as if my grandparents would tell a story about homosexuality and thinking it was romantic somewhere. Yikes. 1/5 stars

Tim (1974) by Colleen McCullough
Such a small font, but reached page 37 before calling it quits. Got this book for free, and the plot sounded sweet on the backcover. But after reading the first 6 chapters, i mostly just felt appalled.
Mary watches the freelance maintenance workers at the neighbors house, and notices Tim. He's described as looking ripped as heck, or as the protagonist puts it - "like a greek statue". But Tim has a mindset as a five year old.
We are directly introduced to him after Mary's long thirsty description, and he's being picked on by the other men. They trick him into eating excrement. Poop. They put poop on a sandwich (because they're helping with the neighbors outhouse as well), tells him it's sausage sandwish and Tim eats it without noticing. 🤮 He's obviously upset when they tell him, and the lady of the house quickly makes him a banana ice cream cake to wash it down while he wail as a kid, but the image of him is forever tainted imo. The lady says he's a "big man" for not puking (showing weakness) infront of the other men, but maybe idk he should puke though ?! Let him puke, good god.
Mary learns of this and eating poop apparently doesn't waver her, and she hires him alone to care for her garden. Mary is described as middle age woman with gray hair (Tim is 25 or something, he was the youngest of the maintenance guys but bigger than them body-wise) and talk with Tim as if he'd be a child, which is strange as we also listens to her continue to sexually thirst for him.
The book is described as a "Pygmalion romance" which i had no idea what is meant until writing this review. According to google "The term Pygmalion effect comes from Greek mythology where Pygmalion fell in love with the sculpture he himself had created according to his own wishes. Sometimes the phenomenon is also called the Rosenthale effect."
So it's like those anime series where the guy shapes young girls to be their future waifus? And with that, i'm out! 0/5 stars
