phantom hourglass >:3
Ok y’all know that this is like, one of my top three fav Zelda games. I ADORE phantom hourglass. I’m gonna talk about it more in detail.
This game is incredibly flawed, but my gosh the good stuff stick out for me. The story is really good to me and very unique compared to other Zelda stories. Taking the ghost ship idea was so neat and I find Bellum a very cool villain despite not having much of a personality. Oshus is an underrated and neat character, and seems to be one of the only characters to do not ask you to defeat the evil villain cuz it’s too dangerous and he doesn’t want you to be responsible for his own problems. And Ciela and Link going to try to head to the ocean king temple despite his protests makes it feel like Link wanted to willingly do it himself is just, very unique to me. I’m not against characters asking Link to fight the battles despite being so young because he’s the main character and you want to be able to play as him so 🤷♀️ however having Oshus not act this way really makes me a benevolent kind man and I really like his character a lot. I think Ciela is cute at times and is the best fairy companion to me. Linebeck is my wife like do I even need to talk about him any further? I’m obsessed with this man, his theme song is amazing, his character development is amazing, and he’s just amazing.
The story to me is very cool and natural, and when you’re not in the ocean king temple, the dungeons are very fun! Phantom hourglass has some of the most unique and fun puzzles ever, and it utilizes the DS in such a creative way! The ocean king temple, imo, is more fun second time around with no guide, and the bosses are SO cool and so different from other bosses! And then the ghost ship part, man not enough people talk about that dungeon! The sisters are so obviously suspicious and evil and it’s cool going through the ship seeing terrifying reaper monsters and different traps. It’s a very unique dungeon and I wish the other dungeons were just as unique. The progression through the storyline at this part is good and after the ghost ship, the game just gets better. The temples are far more unique and creative with amazing items. I love the whole thing with the Anouki and the Yook, and having to find the imposter is challenging but so fun. The Goron Chief’s son is yet another underrated character to me and I love how you can control him in the Goron temple! And the different mini dungeons before the main one with the cobble kingdom was so cool! It’s very good that this game may have a very big temple that seems overwhelming, but it’s linear enough that as long as you move forward, you’ll be fine and be able to get to everything! And then heading to the last levels of the ocean king temple are so amazing. You have the phantom sword and you kill phantoms, the guys that you couldn’t kill before!! And the Bellum battles are so awesome with GOOD music. Any song involving Bellum is good. And y’all know my thoughts on bellumbeck, it’s truly one of the best final bosses to me. It’s so desperate and stressful to do such a thing to such a character, and it was also Bellum’s last desperate attempt to defeat Link. It’s just SOOOOO good and this game is underrated and I love it
Now it’s definitely flawed 💀💀 the world is pretty empty with boring islands before the ghost ship. The npcs on these islands aren’t super interesting and the music makes the dungeons feel too samey to me. Like, this game has GOOD songs, but the mid songs take up too much of the game where it’s kinda lame :/ and I cannot stress this enough, Tetra deserved better. She always deserved better. She has been done dirty in every game she’s been in. Always reduced to a damsel in distress, which there’s nothing wrong with those characters, but did it need to be done with Tetra’s character? It sucks the life out of her for me and I just, hate how she’s always needing to be saved. Like come ON Bellum got her TWICE. And lastly, I wish Neri and Leaf got more attention 😔 I have fun playing with three fairies bullying Linebeck.
All in all, I love this game. I really really love it

Namalin
Namari x Falin

Easy short rarepair spotlight post for prosperity~ This one I didn’t think of on my own for once, I don’t know if it’s just I forgot the decided-on ship name or what but I remember seeing really nice art and a couple posts about it that I can’t find again 💔 Namalin warrior you are out there and not forgotten ty for making me see the light
I like that Namari’s critical of Falin! I have a whole character analysis on Falin if you’re interested, but it’s generally well noticed that people around Falin idealize her a lot. Laios, Marcille and Toshiro all put her on a pedestral of ultimate goodness in the world, a saintess if nothing short of perfection. Sounds like Chilchuck felt sort of creeped out by her vibes, uncomfortable because he couldn’t read her, so unlike Namari it seems he preferred steering clear of her rather than debate opposed ideologies like he usually does. Makes sense if unlike Namari his issue is with her cryptic aura rather than the stances she does show. "… The dungeon is no place for soft hearts" my ultimate namalin scene <333 It’s fun because while this scene is there to show us a lot of things, mostly to establish Falin’s characters better as it’s the first flashback of her we get, the conflict in it is more than anything else Falin vs Namari in how they contrast and clash and approach situations differently. Namari wants security in swift effective violence and thinks Falin too soft for her own good when she prefers a pacifist approach and promotes compassion even for the "undeserving" in Namari’s eyes. Falin steps between the battle ready Namari and the ghost, fearless. Falin effortlessly gently exorcises the ghost without one step back, quickly. Falin proves someone wrong. Falin proves someone wrong.
I love thinking of Namari being surprised when she learns new aspects of Falin. I like Falin having the power to shape people’s views on her. With Falin ships the most fun part for me is usually that point where Falin/the relationship becomes a clean slate: the person realizes they haven’t been seeing all of her, realizes there’s more of her they hadn’t noticed or that she hadn’t shown, that there’s change, a shift in the views on each other and the dynamic a bit.
Namari often feels like an external view looking in to me… I need to make a proper analysis on her but like. I made a lamari post once (analytic more than personally invested rip sorry) and I go with the same Namari take here, I think she’s someone who tends to have an outsider view on people and relationships if that makes sense, she’s a coworker before anything else and she’s content staying at a distance, she’s not objective per se but she tries to keep feelings out of her choices and how she sees people (her lil arc on not staying to save Falin despite the existing camaderie but in the end asking to work for the Flokes more because she wants to stay with them). She’s serious no nonsense on the job but friendly off the job and likes having casual friends, but she’s not… She doesn’t really feel connected to the group. She’s so focused on doing her job, even if she does get impulsive and passionate and too assertive for her bosses’ tastes, so focused on working her reputation and life from the ground up that that professionalism and attitude limits her social life. It doesn’t help that her reputation makes her widely judged, so she probably enters social spaces on the derensive. The closest person she was to pre-canon as far as we knew was Chilchuck and even they have a very "coworker I get along with" dynamic more than friends, with a similar sense of boundaries, humor and world view. Also like canon says a few time, the party didn’t really try to get to know each other well pre-canon, didn’t hang out after work often no one knew where Marcille was from and no one thought that was weird (also how no one had the instinct to ask about Senshi’s past) etc, the notable exception is we’re shown Namari and Chilchuck hitting taverns together and having a grand time. Everyone’s fine with things as they are, they get along decent even if not everyone considers each other friends exactly. Where I’m getting at is that to me, it feels like she tries keeping emotional distance. Emotional distance from people in general being something which in my interpretation of Falin is also present, which would make it a theme and common thread interesting to explore imo. But yes like, Namari looking at Falin, and how everyone treats her, and being more skeptical, seeing her for what she is a little more, maybe even uncharitable. "Why is everyone treating her like she’s all that? She’s gentle sure but seems like a doormat to me" and then one day she comes running up with her mace ready to cave in someone’s face to protect Laios. So yeah… Keeping her distance but one day Falin offering her some gentleness that feels very too personal for someone who’s not used to being genuine and simply showing that they care… Them talking a bit which leaves her stumped and mindblown in a quiet way when Falin defies her expectations. Namari growing on Falin when she stays and decides to open herself up more, or when Falin ends up reading her really well like she’s shown to do with her parents and Marcille’s worries. She’s very attuned to worrying and why and when different people do it especially when it comes to when they worry for others, perhaps because she does a lot of that too, so I think she’d nail down how Namari does care for the rest of the party and it’d make Namari feel seen both in a warm validating way and in a scared naked way.
We see in the tentacles chapter that she’s someone’s who’s very protective and looks out for her peers in a tough love way. She’s overbearing but it’s because she wants everyone to have the best chances. I like that she’s very confrontational and somewhat pushy and rude, but it’s tough love, it’s protective care: asserting herself to better protect and defend. The opposite of Falin’s type of care, quiet and self-sacrificial devotion. They’re barbarian x healer but they’re also bodyguard x bodyguard in their attitude and role. … What I want for them is slow burn slice of life of being coworkers and slowly getting to know each other better, pretty fluffy, but god, put this way they’d have the potential to be such a hot layered mess of insanely mutually devoted codependence… Falin taking a hit for Namari and Namari being scarred by it forever, lots of arguments about it, my god.
I like that she’s the fighter to Falin’s healer. I looove thinking of scenes of Falin healing Namari, necessitating touch and like, a moment of slowing down and sitting together in silence, too intimate, the perfect opportunity to connect that neither truly want to take until one day they do. I love how onesided I imagine the relationship would be at first. Again, as per my interpretation of Falin, I think Namari would have all these little observations and opinions on Falin meanwhile Falin really doesn’t think of Namari much at first. So Namari thinks a lot about Falin and thinks she’s got her pinned down but hasn’t (not that she’s fully wrong, she’d have credit and confront Falin on some of her flaws like the doormat thing), while Falin is very passive about Namari and doesn’t think deeply about her or anything but she read Namari’s insecurities and logic well. Not unlike how Laios was the one who seemed to understand Namari’s way of care the best in the party in the tentacles episode, and how he was very understanding of her choice and reasons. In Falin’s case it’s more like, the objectivity of passivity… She cares about Namari less than Laios who generally seeks to form bonds, so her lack of investment allows her a neutral perspective. In that way another parallel with Namari that I’m drawing, except Namari lets feelings from her opinions seeps in more… Onesided beef my beloved. I’m going insane save me this post was a mistake. I think Falin takes the crumbs of friendship and love where she can without expecting or asking for anything more than what’s offered, and I think her relationship with Namari (or anyone really) would start out the way it did with Marcille: the other takes the initiative and they end up spending time together, Falin is friendly but unattached until the bond gets gradually and wordlessly strenghtened through regularly spending moments together. So! I think Namari would need to take a lot of the first steps, which since again she’s confrontational & argumentative and doesn’t hold herself back on that front that could spark a lot of conversations I think. Ooor since Falin cares about Namari less than Laios and Marcille she allows herself to be bolder herself lol. Or also circumstances force them to spend time together like dungeon party getting separated shenanigans.
I think their personalities match cutely, I think falin would try to protect namari like she does others but also Namari simply doesn’t need protection, just support. And I think they’re complementary in that way that Namari’s friendly but also won’t sugarcoat things, and I think if she takes an interest in Falin it could go from there and she could develop some understanding of her and idk like an intrigued crush….
Namari wants stability & security & to, like, not be judged and rejected and exiled lol, to find her nest her pack the place where she feels good and wanted in. I think having a fitting partner would help in that (similarly to how the found family with the Flokes seemed to. Oh another parallel, Falin’s top priority is protecting Laios her brother and what Namari are a family figure) and I think Falin would fulfill that cozy protection and that warm ‘being seen and not judged’ feeling. But also Namari would run up to her and yell about her trying to sacrifice herself ever.
Another fun thread to explore: post-canon guilt for not having gone to save her. Sure, they weren’t close, but they had some nice memories, didn’t they? Namari cares, and it stings despite herself when it feels like people think she doesn’t. Oh it wasn’t a lost cause after all, oh it’d have worked out, oh I could have stayed loyal and it wouldn’t have compromised myself in the end. Wanting to apologize to Falin, or just ahnging out with her and sharing a moment after she wakes up. And tangent but that’s interesting to think about… Narratively, I think the purpose of Namari and Toshiro in the story, beyond strenghtening the theme of "seek to understand what is different from you and promote unity despite them" and fleshing the cast and worldbuilding, is Toshiro’s purpose was being a foil & tool in Laios’ arc (trouble connecting with people) while Namari’s was being and a foil & tool in Marcille’s arc (standing up for ideals without being out of touch with harsh realities and needs). They are the conflict that push our protagonists to grow— and they explore different ways of dealing with a situation or topic, different ways of growing into themselves on that end: Laios needing to listen to others more and Toshiro needing to focus on voicing himself more to be able to connect, Marcille needing to learn ideals sometimes cost too much and Namari needing to internalize that ideals are sometimes worth risks (not only to be able to find a reasonable but fulfilling life balance, but also to get in touch with their compassion: Namari restricts her own too much and Marcille is too harsh on people she deems to be breaking values, like Namari not risking her life and career for a friend with no promise of success, or even like how Namari is harsh on Falin’s way of doing things : too gentle, too soft, too idealistic) (similarly to Chilchuck’s arc with Marcille too, and he also plays a hand in advancing that arc in the Namari chapters). We are getting far from namalin sorry ummm preview for future analyses like Toshiro’s contrasting approach to grief and accepting loss.
More post-canon namalin! Thinking about a timeline where… Namari is fond of Falin finding herself and going off to do her thing. "Finally!" she thinks. If she’s still for hire, maybe Falin would want her to come along, either as guide or bodyguard <3, she knows Namari has a lot of good avice on a lot of things to give, plus they’ve worked together before. She hires Namari and they travel for a bit. Travel would do Namari good too I think, even if her end goal is to settle and I think Falin’s would be too eventually. Seeing sights that light her wonder for the world and going places where people don’t know her story, don’t recognize her face or her name. Them, feeling free. Finding a companionship that feels uplifting instead of stifling or charged. Namari having been too in her head about reputation and social games and money that they hit the roads and spend time in nature and it’s like, woah. I’ve been living in a small world with made up rules.
Ahh yes romance, Namari and Falin kissing after 3 years of not really knowing each other despite seeing each other every day then 2 months of wanting to spend more and more time together until they’re an inseparable duo! Workwives. I want them to stand next to each other during campire time and Namari cracks little jokes and Namari laughs. I want Namari to gift Falin a bug caught in amber and for it to be their wedding/promised to each other thing.
TLDR
Rowdy but levelheaded barbarian x gentle healer that will also cave your face in with a mace I like it…… They’re an interesting duo of mixed stuff. Protection being your purpose and what you’re worth for, literally being a meat shield (Laios, Tansu), finding your individuality recognized and validated through a growing bond with the other. Sticking around as a love language. Also bug immortalized in amber and it being beautiful.
Nevermind this wasn’t short. Um! Anyways.

animal jam is a lot more fun when you're rich
#seriously notp is making me RICH on ajpw#i can get like. one corruption orb per hour of playing dungeons. the super sweets prizes?? got an alpha after like 5 rounds. got soo many#rares from that too.....#and now i'm like. oh i want to play as a dragon? don't have to wait two weeks to save the sapphires! i can buy it now!!#looking for a cool specific piece of clothing for my outfit? i can just buy it right now!! without worrying about the price!!!#i'm seriously considering buying an alpha. just like. snooping on explorer looking at the different wizard hats for when i sell mines#(i'm not That rich lol)#kind of disappointing anyways. like. it's easy to grind this stuff when you're not a kid but it must take so long for kids to do this!!#most of the people in this game get rich by paying money!! and like#i was always a nm on classic and while they are definitely more pay to play it was like. you could have so much fun and still be poor#play wild it's like. you do get all these features but so much of it is focused on Buying. like the only non purchase stuff i can think of#is crafting ???? and the phantom dungeons.. and the minigames. and talking to people i guess.#but like honestlyyy people only really care about the items and getting items and what items are coming out next month?? and what animals??#what new effects can i get for my pets for my items??? AUGHHHHHHHHHHHH#idk. idk. i know animal jam is far past its glory days and it needs to do this to survive. and i definitely do not want this game to die.#but it is really going full capitalism mode. and i think the content and the players and the devs are really suffering from that. idk.#jamblr#i do really enjoy doing the nonogram puzzles and i absolutely love the dungeons. i'm glad they give me stuff to sell. but man. i kind of ju#t wish it wasn't so much like this yknow#ramblings#bangers

i really do appreciate laois doing things that are absolutely bonkers. Like i did have a thought wrt him going So Ham on the dog impression but it occurred to me thinking about a shapeshifter who can read your thoughts you really would have to Go All In, and while it is still presented as being comical (bc it is objectively funny to watch him get on all fours and bark like a dog while the camera's doing barrel rolls) it didn't feel like Just A Joke. This is unsaid, maybe it wouldn't be necessary, but i think it demonstrates the strength of laois's convictions. It's what makes him so good at what he does. he really does have that dog in him....
#fishes rambles#dungeon meshi#it esp made me think about w kitsune a lot of the legends about defeating them having to do w the fear of hunting dogs specifically#interfering w their magic which was neat#also wrt to him stimming before going into Dog Mode touched me really bc i remember so often b4 shame was hammered into me#about doing silly things like pretending to be an animal bc some aspect of how they moved or acted was soothing in some aspect? or somethin#i wanted to emulate bc i thought it was cool bc b4 years of karate i had extremely bad coordination and athleticism in general#and idk it was just so. it gave me some feelings.

You know that moment when you kinda wanna draw something for much older audiences but you're not sure if it'll count as NSFW or not...?

I've been thinking about the hot tub scene with Sayrose#And after watching Dungeon Meshi for a while with the Falin and Marcille stuff...#I think I might wanna try#They're much older though and their relationship for being aged up isn't primarily sex related that's- ick#I only did once scene that was slightly risky#And maybe just an upper body part but hide the upper chest possibly???#Idk I just want them to cuddle in water is that too much to ask for?!#... Sorry. Probably rambling. Idk why I'm posting this just...#Into the winds you go post! Whoever this may reach I am NOT a weirdo!

I honestly think we could do with less "a good DM would do [whatever it is a good DM would do]." A lot of the time that type of advice boils down to "a good DM would realize that this particular part of the system actually sucks ass and ignore it," which is actually a statement I'm not sure I agree with most of the time: it has basically emerged from a D&D culture of play that puts a certain type of play on a pedestal and considers the type of play that D&D produces natively to be pedestrian. A lot of the time when you hear "A good DM would ignore the rules in order to produce a better experience" it does, to an extent, come from a place of understanding what sort of experience the game of D&D produces but with a preconceived notion that said experience is dysfunctional and bad.
But also a lot of the advice given kind of sucks ass. I don't think you need to be able to redesign a system on the fly to be a good DM. I actually think the specter of the "good DM" is somewhat harmful, because it lets game design off the hook and furthers this idea that there aren't any good games and games are only "good" once a good DM has had a chance to tinker with it.
Anyway, in my opinion you shouldn't need to be "a good GM" to run a game. The ideal game would actually take a lot of the pressure off the GM (or Storyteller or Narrator or MC etc.) so that they can simply run the game as is and if the game has been designed well get a consistent good experience out of it. We shouldn't saddle GMs (or DMs) with the expectation that they must somehow elevate a game above itself to make it produce a "real" roleplaying experience befitting us distinguished nerds. I think D&D is cool and I think dungeon-crawling is cool and I think all the nerds who think dungeon-crawling is beneath them and D&D needs to be "saved" by making it not about dungeon-crawling should go. Idk I don't even want them to go play other games because I like other games and frankly those people sound exhausting to play with regardless of game.
Anyway so the point of this rambling post is: you should not need to be "a good DM" to run a game. A good game would take your hand and help take the pressure off running the game. Putting the onus on "a good DM" is letting the game off the hook. Anyway here are a few realizations that I think can make anyone a good GM:
Realize that games are designed for a purpose and that if a game is designed well you should not need to modify it on the fly.
Following from the above, realize that if a game is not doing what you want it to do it's not necessarily the game being bad but your desires not matching up with the game's.
Realize that it's usually much easier to just play or run a different game instead of trying to tinker with a system to make it do something it wasn't designed to do.
None of these things will turn you into the mythical "good DM" who can run the best kind of games, but they might turn you into "a good GM" who knows that there's a game out there that better serves their needs and whose style of running games better jives with a different game.

Alright, so I just read through that language barriers post of yours and had a Blast Tm, BUT! Now I have several thoughts that need to be spoken. Firstly, what with english being this really ancient language now, yn‘s basically got a free phd in hyrule, don‘t they?? Predestined for exploration because of their „excellent skills with the language used in the ruins and temples of old, as well as their familiarity with the mechanisms“ or something. The ruin researchers probably beg to have them in their team.
Secondly, apparently accents are really appealing to some people? The chain already finds yn‘s morning voice really hot, but how would they even react to the way they sort of mispronounce the words? Idk too much about how japanese sounds, but maybe they emphasize the consonants too much which makes them sound harsh all the time, or the opposite, too much emphasis on vowels and sounding very soft. Just… brainrot about rambling and not trying too hard to speak perfectly accurately being all it takes to have the boys smitten and kicking their feet.
Thirdly!! What about a yn that knows multiple languages? The chain tries their best to learn english, and then yn comes around the corner like SIKE. THAT‘S NOT ALL OF THEM. YOU WILL NEVER COMPREHEND IT ALL. (That‘s what I‘d do at least.)
sorry for late reply i have a hectic life rn and i got hit by hurricane helene lol
ao3/writing blog author curse is so real u guys, this was like a 100 year not anticpated flood or smth, also we're in the mountains??
anyway gonna assume u mean masc/male reader bc of the reference to this post!! if u want context or a sorta part 1
this is just gonna be a quick reply so i can share anons ideas w/the world tho since ive been hoarding asks 😔
at the very least Wild's Zelda is harassing you
at the very most, every time u guys get near a town or city, u are kidnapped by hylian researchers
just the image of a bunch of nerd hylians mobbing u and fangirling while the rest of the guys, in full armor and swords just stand awkwardly behind lmao
(they get lowkey jealous after awhile i mean what who said that-)
the way Legend, Hyrule, Four, and Twi hover a little closer when you talk
Wild and Twi are practically like excited dogs whenever you speak, perking up when they hear your deep voice, u know, bc u tried randomly talking in the evenings abt nothing and watched them pavlov respond and look to you every time
even when u just started talking about the grass or some flowers
lowkey you accidentally almost mess up their dungeon exploring bc theyre just so used to your accented voice in their heads, just around them, or smth guiding them along, that when they all split up into smaller groups in the dungeon,
each Link pair accidentally starts following a man's voice echoing in the dungeon until they all accidentally converge in a main room and the Link equivalent of the point spiderman meme happens with you in the center with Time, who had been your dungeon buddy (he's laughing at them as every Link goes a little red after realizing they just followed you unconciously)
ur favorite thing to do is leaning down to whisper in each of the pointed hylian ears randomly, just talking about mundane or random things and watching it twitch, some trying to stay still like Time/Twi/Wars/Wild, while others leap away like u burned them lmao Legend/Hyrule/Four, and Sky managing to do both, trying to maintain composure before he inevitably breaks out all red and hides in his hands lmao
(Wind dared you to do it originally, and he snickers every time he sees you doing it again lol)
-
ok but the multiple languages is endless comedy gold
bc everytime a Link thinks he's got it or starts to listen then realize ur actually speaking smth completely different language
u get the most memeable faces of his confusion
like these gems
(four's blue is showing, he's offended u switched languages every other word one time)
they're actually so fed up lmao
☆
anyway sorry for late reply!! I hope u guys are having a good week so far, and ill try to post some more, tho cant guarantee when as the holidays close in for me
(rip my class is also getting near the end too im Stressin)
peace out anon,

Just saw that one ask you just totally posted.
Given that Cliff and Ford are.. somewhat the same person, but different times different personalities (clearly, they aren't the same person, but they have the same soul) It wouldn't be so.. weird to find them a common ground?
For example, if you pay attention, Cliff has a similar enthusiastic behavior to what Ford had when he was younger, in his college years. The older (and trauma he went through) changed him to what we see of him. (Honestly idk if Bill ever hurt Ford) However, there are times you could see him getting 'excited' like with that dungeon game.
I think it would work just fine with Clifford slowly settling to an intermediate ground, like halfway. Y'know what I mean-?
Like, you take 2 traits from that ford and gice them to cliff. After all, they are still the same soul and Cliff keeps himself as himself while ig.. maturing?
Because thats basically what it is. (This is just a thought of mine. I yap too much..)
—duckling....
TW // SH
Like I actually more like that ending where Cliff accept himself while have a Ford's memory he knew he are this person's on the past but still embracing his own self now , he have struggles with his own identity his own life cuz he wasn't supposed to Remember it affecting him too hard . So he be he own self is him healing Afterall all those years
Clifford still young , he just freshly 27 he study his whole childhood and pretending to be someone's else . let him spend his time doing wutever he want
I can't really describe what I want here cuz this is a very difficult decision to make lol , but I will read you guys rambling about this

Hi i saw your art summary thingy, what was ur art for december? Idk if ive seen it yet (it looks rrly good)
........ h have I NOT?? kajsdnkjasd
kasjdnakjd ok i just checkked I thought I post it with the other doodle dump
It's kitsune AU~
was thinking about like... how would Danny connect with local population people after he got back Danny helped local old woman tm and the grandma instinct to feed everyone sth sth Danny got to eat actual human food after a... while
this is just rambling and me thinking too much into it
An empty house means there aren't any food that aren't just packages or cans even if they left any before moving out
And I'm just thinking even tho he was fully human before, now he's part yokai with the whole fox thing, so maybe he didn't even need to eat to survive. Which would be great considering the food situation
but dungeon meshi had the whole spiel of "to eat is to live" and all. So even if Danny didn't need to, the act of eating food (lovingly cooked food even) itself would bring him closer to being or feeling human
Anyway, that is one hell of a big concept to put down into drawings and I just want to get it out so I went the direct danny eat food n cry a bit bc it's the closest he'll get to a home cooked food right now
(He'll get more later. with Sam and Tucker.) (Or maybe from other adults from the town/village that simultaneously adopt Danny too lmaoo)

A long and meandering post about Adachi and the Investigation Team
I have no idea what to title or describe this as. This is a long ass rambling 2.5k+ word post that consists of like 5 drafts I had sitting around that all felt somewhat related. It starts with the part where the Investigation Team tells Adachi to get over himself, then devolves into talking about Adachi punching himself in the face repeatedly (metaphorically), before ending by exploring the idea of Adachi as the Investigation Team's collective Shadow. it rly is tl;dr.
Adachi will remember that
At one point in Magatsu Inaba, the Investigation Team takes turns responding to Adachi in verbal turn-based combat. They all have varying responses and levels of understanding of him.
Chie doesn't understand why Adachi even became a cop, Rise thinks he's full of shit, Kanji tells him a 2008 version of "go kys" (tbf, he's never been eloquent with words), Yukiko tells Adachi that he sounds like a kid, Naoto calls him out for finding life annoying while being a damn annoyance, and Yosuke tells him he's just a criminal.
What Yukiko says to him in particular appears to sting Adachi, evident by how he "!" emotes in reaction to her. Or idk maybe he's secretly into getting bullied by women. I think Yukiko has Adachi's number here, and he knows that. After all, part of his schtick is that, "Oh, you stupid fuckin' kids, you don't know what I've been through or how I feel! Get off my dungeon lawn!!!" And yet, one of those stupid kids is able to tl;dr his life, and even says, "no u -- you're the stupid kid" back at him. He later even repeats what she said back at Sho during Ultimax.
What Yukiko says here, I think, stands out in particular not just because of Adachi's reaction but also because it resembles a sentiment found in other media: The contradiction of being alive while not "truly" being alive. This often goes like so: A character can be alive in that they are most certainly physically living and breathing, but they are largely closed off from the rest of the world and going through the motions. Thus they are said to not truly "be alive".
In the context of Persona 4, I believe Adachi fits in with this trope. As Yukiko has assessed, life sucks, but it's not like he's in any hurry to die. From what we see of Adachi in the plot, he's going through the motions. He wakes up, goes to his job, goes to Junes to bum free air conditioning, and sometimes gets dragged over to Dojima's house.
I don't think it's bad that people fall into these routines by default. Some find them comforting, some appreciate the simplicity, and some make up for the monotony of adult life with the more fascinating things they do outside of work.
But this doesn't feel like it applies to Adachi because he openly groans about his life and job. He seems to want to live and fit in with society, but he wants to do so with more than what he has right now, yet he also seems unwilling or unable to get what he wants. He also seems unwilling to put in the effort - he tells us he's lonely and wants a girlfriend, but when the old woman from his Social Link tries to hook him up with a girl, he finds it all annoying. He thinks of himself as an elite detective who is above Inaba, but he is regularly made out to be incompetent, sloppy, and careless.
It's like he's stuck but not doing anything to become unstuck. Following the tropes, Adachi would move from being a character who is "alive without really being alive" to "Truly Living" once he figures out how to get himself un-stuck. If he truly wants to be a hotshot detective in the big city with a smokin' hot wife, then something needs to change because he won't get those things as he is now.
But how does Adachi approach the subject of "change"? (Spoiler: Not well.)
Maybe the world really is just a shitshow?
Adachi being exposed as the murderer is a major turning point for the murder investigation. And after the Investigation Team chases him into the TV, one of the many things he talks about is "change", or rather a lack of change.
As far as Adachi is concerned, the world can't / won't / doesn't change. He criticizes the world and its inability to change, how society works, and how people will latch to whatever you tell them as the truth.
Some things he says might resonate with us, especially nowadays with the spread of social media and misinformation. However, despite these criticisms, it sounds like he still desires to be part of society. (Yes, I know, this sounds like that one "We should improve society somewhat" comic, but Adachi did not want to "improve society" lbr LOL.) He has been trying to blend in as a normal guy since April despite being a murderer. I think it's worth reiterating that his complaints about his life weren't anarchist but more like, "I don't have a cute girlfriend who cooks for me." Furthermore, he was trying to take advantage of misinformation to get away with murder by pinning it on Namatame.
Adachi doesn't like the current world and doesn't think it will change. Thus, he is forcing it to change in a completely catastrophic way. He really is throwing a tantrum: Like, what, you can't get away with murder? All right, throw the whole world away. With this approach, it is not Adachi who must change to fit in with the world, but rather the world that must change to fit Adachi.
Change isn't a good subject with him, which, honestly, is relatable. Change is easier said than done. Even within Persona 4 itself, after getting Magical TV Powers, an event that feasibly might add spice to one's life!!, the same old routine still runs Adachi's life. What has changed is that he's now waiting for Namatame to kill someone. Showing up looking for a dead body in the shopping district is simply a new part of his routine.
This topic of Adachi and change gets wrapped up after the fight against Amenosagiri. Adachi challenges the Investigation Team: >>>If<<< they think they have the power to change the future, then do it.
After entering the TV World, Amenosagiri responds to Adachi's wish and makes his wish come true as the dungeon deadline bad ending shows. That was Adachi's own so-called power to change the future. So what is the Investigation Team's?
Yosuke then replies that everyone has the power to change their future. As in, you don't need special powers from a gigantic disco eyeball inside of a TV to do that. In context, Yosuke is telling Adachi, "This is a 'you' problem," or "Skill issue." And tbh, I think Yosuke is more or less correct here.
In which we revisit the topic of "dumbass" and effort
In some ways, this topic might seem odd to approach. Everyone on the Investigation Team - besides Chie - seems to have a better life situation than Adachi had when he was their age. Are they punching down? Perhaps it feels like a hollow reflection of the collectivist culture that the solution to these antagonists who go "BUT SOCIETY IS WHAT IS WRONG" is always to beat them up and force them to conform--
…..but hold on. That line of thought would be giving in to what Adachi says before his boss battle. And, based on how he quits talking about how "waaah society is unfair" afterward, I find it difficult to think that is what he genuinely believes about his situation.
When I suggest that Yosuke is correct, I don't mean this in a "You aren't special, Adachi, everyone else's life sucks too, just deal with it" kind of way. What I have in mind is how the game seems to support that this is an Adachi problem, not an everyone else problem. Throughout Adachi's Social Link, his other interactions, and what Atlus has said as meta / Word of God answers, you get the idea that people were trying with Adachi, but he wasn't meeting them halfway.
For example:
This entire post is about the effort the MC puts in just to get called a dumbass (though I'd bet that the protag considers Adachi calling him a dumbass to be like a Badge of Honor). Even their gay ass Fever Time in P4D tells the story of Yu trying to reach out and Adachi going, "No!!!"
The old woman in his Social Link is trying to wingwoman for him and hook him up with women in Inaba, but Adachi seems unwilling. Instead, he tells Nanako and the protagonist that he's never getting married. Despite his loneliness, he justifies himself by saying, "Marriage is the graveyard of a man's life."
The Dojima family and Adachi interact briefly throughout the game, both in the story scenes and in his Social Link. As his letter at the end of the game shows, Adachi felt lukewarm about their interactions because he wasn't quite aware of what he had with them until he no longer has their company.
The way I see it, when Adachi rants about the world not changing, he is not actually bitching about the world. Rather, this feels more like a form of projection. He says the world doesn't change, but perhaps he is talking about himself and his own inability to change. Which would reframe it as more like… He knows he's the issue that holds himself back - his own worst enemy, perhaps - but he says the world is wrong to justify himself.
You learn a bit about Adachi through his Social Link. During rank 6, in dialogue that can tragically be missed, Adachi will admit that he is lonely, but he also thinks it's easier that way. And really, easier is just another way of saying "less effort".
On one hand, this might show Adachi's annoyance with other people. But at the same time, for him to call the protagonist a dumbass for investing so much in him and their relationship, for him to pass up the matchmaking from the older woman at Junes while complaining about being single....... I think the unspoken bit here is that Adachi does not think he is worth the time or effort to begin with. His lack of effort isn't just him being annoyed with people or not giving a shit about things, it's a lack of effort into himself. I'm no expert, but I think the majority of us would wager that this is depression.
As the game's timeline unfolds, we really only know Adachi as the pathetic, silly murder guy. Did he start distancing himself from people and quit caring about the effort he puts into himself because of the "oops, I murdered someone" part? Or was he like this even before then?
When he talks more about his past, he doesn't go into a great amount of detail. But, going with my gut here, I get the feeling that Adachi's obsession with Mayumi - something from before he became a murderer - suggests his distance from people is not a new thing for him.
Consider: Meeting people? Forming relationships? Possibly getting rejected? Having to make someone else happy? Wh-What if he has to ch-change something about himself? Like, even before we talk about romance, how the hell do you even make friends as an adult? (The answer is BL btw. Go find some girlies who ship the same pairing.) I think Adachi said fuck it to all that bullshit. It'd be easier - less effort - for him to just be alone and not have to change anything about himself.
But… What if the magical TV just tells you exactly who your soulmate is? Well, shit, that's easy. For the lonely guy who just got transferred to Inaba and generally keeps his distance from people, I imagine it would be quite convenient to just be told, "This is who your soulmate is; the person you're meant to be with".
And that wouldn't be the last time Adachi gets a freebie from the TV. It happens again in December, as Adachi finds an again "easy" solution that does not involve changing himself or doing something annoying that requires effort from him. Having been enabled by the magical TV, Adachi is something of a static character.
Adachi is the Investigation Team's Shadow
In the P4G Premium Fan/Fun/Fsomething book, Atlus defines the Shadow by the Jungian definition, then talks about how the Shadows in-game represent "alternate possibilities" for the characters. The specific example it gives is how Chie's Shadow holds a great deal of animosity towards Yukiko. The real Chie doesn't feel this way towards Yukiko; in fact, she treasures her. Thus, Chie's Shadow is an alternate possibility.
When you look at Chie and what she says about accepting her Shadow, her Shadow seems to be born from a real insecurity (her jealousy of Yukiko) and part of it really does resemble Chie. But part of her Shadow is also this… caricature-esque thing. Hence why Atlus calls it the "alternate possibility". In turn, Chie accepts that she is jealous of Yukiko, but she does not accept the Banana Hat Dominatrix trying to exert control over Yukiko. She even realizes that rather than Yukiko needing her, it was actually her who needed Yukiko.
(I refuse to carry on with this train of thought further than talking about Atlus's own example with Chie because it would inevitably mean having to talk about how Atlus sees Kanji and Naoto's issues/Shadows/dungeons, and I'd need like bottles of wine to get in the mood to even type a paragraph of that.)
During her P4G winter Social Link scene, where her Persona evolves, Chie brings up Adachi and how she could have become him. She continues that anyone could have turned out like him.
Indeed, Adachi very much feels like a, "this could happen to anyone" character. He is an everyday normal guy who accidentally gets involved in something beyond him: a Like a Dragon side story NPC stuck in a game about high schoolers and friendship. Based on how you see these characters, you can correlate many of their issues to Adachi's own issues.
Really, in some ways, he feels like he was written to be the sum of the Investigation Team's insecurities, all bundled into one guy. In the case of Chie in particular, just as she was jealous of Yukiko and other girls, Adachi is jealous of what others have (especially Namatame, it seems), and he reflects that aspect of Chie.
As Chie's Shadow twisted her jealousy of Yukiko into a desire to control Yukiko and showed an alternate possibility for who Chie could have become if she had let jealousy consume her, perhaps Adachi shows an alternate possibility for who all of them could become.
As Amenosagiri later reveals, the truth torments the Shadows. Your party identifies that is what causes the Shadows to attack people.
When we consider how the game has gone until now, then those moments where the Investigation Team told their Shadows, "You're not me!" must be the moment that Amenosagiri was describing. The members of the Investigation Team come face to face with a being who claims to be them and seems aware of the same issues that gnaw at them. But these beings pervert their issues issues in a direction that doesn't reflect who the Investigation Team really are. And so they challenge that this being is truly them. They, sigh, "reach out to the truth", and it causes their Shadows to go nutso and attack.
And, of course, these repeated scenes where they tell their Shadows all lead up to the last time we see this kind of sequence...
Just as the Investigation Team had to face themselves and pick apart the truths from the caricature, they, too, come to face Adachi and cut through the bullshit, deny his attempts to justify why it's okay for him to merge the TV World into reality and screw everyone over, and reject him just as they did their Shadows.
That said, though, if we are to compare him to their Shadows, then we must acknowledge that, much like how the Investigation Team's Shadows come from their own real insecurities, Adachi's frustrations with the Investigation Team and with the world at large must also come from something real.
On this screenshotted line in particular, he even uses the more masculine "ore" as his pronoun in Japanese. He usually uses the more boyish "boku", but he seems to swap to "ore" to indicate that he is speaking quite genuinely--or perhaps speaking from the heart.
While he is a whiny murderer throwing an apocalyptic tantrum, I'm sure there are circumstances that made him the person that he is as an adult. Tbh, I've already made a lot of posts talking about the factors that might have contributed to *why* he feels like this, so I won't drag this out further.
By Arena Ultimax, Adachi has come to accept the murder case as the inciting incident that causes him to change as he finds himself finally owning up to his actions from the previous year. He's no role model lol, but life now has more meaning to him than just something you go through every day. Perhaps it's at this moment that he can be said to have gone from merely being alive to living.
(Let's be real tho, jail gives you 3 non-cup noodle meals per day? Damn. It's like he's living his best life. Speaking of which, food feels like such a fitting metaphor for his emotional nourishment.)
In the aftermath of the dungeon and the almost-end-of-the-world, Adachi agreed to start playing by the rules, and became more of a dynamic character. At the beginning of Ultimax, Adachi's commitment to this gets questioned as Yu, Yosuke, and Chie find him allied with Sho (like 5 cutscenes after Yu is so confidant he's behaving himself too, tsk tsk). But Yu reaches the roof, hears Adachi's cringe ass dialogue (I'm pretty sure that Adachi would not have said half that shit if he had known Yu was standing around the corner), and reaffirms his belief that Adachi was genuine about his promise to play by the rules.
The Investigation Team are not on the best of terms with Adachi. Regardless, they went into his dungeon, called him out on his bullshit that had been mixed in with his own real shortcomings and insecurities, punched him, and as we can tell by Ultimax, came to accept him in their own ways as they did their individual Shadows. As Yu says, perhaps they have strangely enough decided to trust in Adachi.

long rambly post-endwalker wolund analysis post (so kind of a reflection on what they're going for the WoL from 6.1 onward, but with lots of oc nonsense so i'm not tagging it that way) (edit: i lied he's basically not in this it's just my notes on MSQ reread) structured around the dialogue options offered (all praise as always to xiv.quest)
right off the bat we've got a weird one with tataru asking you your future plans, and your options are more adventure, idk, or just not answering (with tataru's response implying it's because you're still emotionally processing the events of endwalker). interesting stuff that you're not allowed to explicitly say: that you want a break, that you're thinking of settling down, that you're done with adventuring or violence or war. they easily could have written in a consistent option for the WoL to be like "guess there's never a break, huh?" but the sentiment only comes up occasionally.
hits a lot of the same points as above but this is also The Moment we turn into The Adventurer and is worth flagging on that level. fun fact: the last time anyone called you the warrior of light in-game was hoary boulder, back in the post-Endwalker scion dialogue wrap-up.
No one has used the title since 6.1 began. it does show up in the abyssal fracture trial description i suppose
i think it's decently likely that in the next arc we won't be the WoL anymore but we might be The Bearer Of The Crystal. there's precedent!
anyways i find this moment very interesting because this is the one time in the patch series the warrior of light Makes A Decision. tataru suggests new possible places to adventure, and her reference to the Bounty sparks your memory of Emet-Selch and sets you going.
what i really like about this from a wol characterization perspective is that the warrior of light immediately transforms the call to new adventure into a duty. like literally by the text tataru is like "why not be a simple adventurer traveling in search of wonder?" and you think of THE BEST FRIEND OF YOUR PRIOR INCARNATION GIVING YOU A MAJOR POST-MORTEM DUTY TO HONOR BOTH HIM AND YOUR PAST INCARNATION, maybe the weightiest and lore-heaviest thing you could do. those two lines from emet are not near each other in the actual dialogue, they're from opposite ends of his speech! real "warrior of light, could you lighten up?" energy on immediately turning to that one, but it dovetails very nicely with my read that dawntrail is partly about the warrior of light trying and miserably failing to escape the demands and strictures of protagonism. you should stop feeling bound by duty. instead you should adventure, because it's your duty. GOD.
note to self: go back later and check if estinien ever calls alisaie by name. might need to check dungeon dialogue too.
pushing back lightly on the duty narrative above, the game DOES textually assert that the only reason everyone's in alzadaal's legacy in the first place is because you wanted "to see if the legends were true," or using estinien's phrasing were "chasing tales of underseas ruins." you don't get to displace the blame on this one!
here's one of those instances of the wol getting to be like "wow thought i was gonna get to chill" but i feel obliged to point out it's in a moment where everyone knows your involvement is a fait accompli. the wol never really gets to be like "I Would Like To Stop," but they LOVE giving you a wry "well, if i MUST save the world, i suppose i can" option (see: shadowbringers finale: "if you had the strength to take another step, could you do it? could you save our worlds? "what, all by myself?")
this is just a crazy y'shtola moment. "the dank cave i studied in was about as far from the bright, airy halls of academia as one could get. but it was a wondrous, magical childhood nonetheless." she's being so emotionally open with you because she trusts and cares about you i'm gonna *remembers you're not supposed to say it* cast superbolide
in keeping with the 6.X campaign to make y'shtola hashtag relateable, it's interesting that they have her read your silence as amused.
one of those fun moments where they just give you the same option dressed up in different language according to your roleplay desires. interesting to me because it elevates "the warrior of light is kind of just winging it" to the level of text, which makes sense! it's very rare that a fight in FFXIV takes place with full knowledge of what you're up against, and way more common that what wins the day is keeping alert and willing and able to change plans, as most clearly demonstrated in the ktisis finale with your improvised cooperation with emet, hyth, and venat around the issue of the aetheric convergence.
they really went the full gamut with these options (imo a strict reading of the third answer plainly implies that you DO consider zenos a friend, so imo all options are represented)
i love the early zero moments where nothing you do ever lands properly with her because she is an alien predatory intelligence in the shape of a person (who of course gradually reawakens to her full personhood)
there's the sliiiiightest defensive hint to both these options that i really love. yes, estinien, OBVIOUSLY i didn't know this. c'mon man JEEZ.
another entry for the "can't win with zero" pile, but also really interesting because this is such a fun example of the exposition and characterization blending. like, sure, the void does operate a lot on deals and agreements and contracts, befitting its nature as the place the mages of etheirys summon demons from to strike bargains with. but it works that way because everyone else DOES want something. most other voidsent have to want something, or the idea of a contract-based society wouldn't work, because a contract only works if each party has or can do something the other party wants. that's also why they're constantly fucking each other over (they want stuff really bad) and why they need a strong culture around honoring agreements (so people don't just break them, because they want stuff so bad). zero on the other hand claims to not want anything and is instead doing the insane depressed alien version of the saul goodman "put a dollar in my pocket so we have attorney-client privilege" thing, but for her revealing she's a memoriate.
skipping a lot of the alphinaud and alisaie dialogue bc it's either boring or fodder for my future "alisaie still deserves her own complete arc and here's why" post
i must've taken the second choice here bc i don't remember the first, which is cute. brb making a powerscaling tier list of scion research capabilities
the rest of the void stuff doesn't really actually have any interesting dialogue which more or less make sense because it's also not really your story
just remembered they made the leader of the radiant host a brocon for no reason. sometimes ffxiv really knocks it out of the park in terms of absolute left-field character choices
again, interesting that they don't let you NOT be interested in explicitly the golden city itself. you can be interested, skeptical of the rumors, or like "oh word?" but you can't be like ehhh.
a couple interesting things here. first, again, no option to be disinterested in adventure. you can be undecided, you can be like "idk i'd rather stay out of politics," but you can't be opposed to adventure or seeing new things, you can't at this juncture say you want to take a break (versus when you could with y'shtola in a situation where it didn't matter).
i'm also, in retrospect, very interested in the idea g'raha raises at this pretty critical and highlighted point in the plot. "what's important is to be true to yourself as you walk [the long road of life's journeys]." that's a kind of specific sentiment! like, some other easy generic sentiments the game could have slotted in: never lose hope, remember the beauty of the world, hear feel think, etc.
i would not describe FFXIV in the zodiark and hydaelyn saga as a game very concerned about being true to oneself as one walks life's long road. it's broadly in favor of it, but when you literally watch venat walk the long road of human existence, the wisdom she imparts is that life is a journey about finding yourself and your purpose, which is also about finding the strength to continue and also about finding joy even as darkness descends and also about finding light everlasting amidst deepest despair. then ultima thule's conclusions end up being about how suffering and adversity are part of life but cannot be either defeated or redeemed but must merely be accepted because they are simply part and parcel of all that life has to offer, which also includes free will and new experiences and human connection and the beauty of nature (which includes all things that are), which are good in themselves, and though joy is transient suffering is also transient. meteion basically spells it out at the end
there's not a lot of room in this particular paradigm for like, deviation from the self.
but you know who bursts in at the end of the expac to be like OKAY are we done talking HERO SHIT can you acknowledge there is MORE TO YOU THAN SAVING THE WORLD can i TALK ABOUT DESIRE AND PERSONAL PURPOSE NOW
and then of course, being true to the self ends up being a major throughline of dawntrail. it's wuk lamat's struggle (how best to be queen? in the end, by not letting herself be swayed by false desire or hidden resentment as the other claimants are, and instead to live honestly and thereby honestly connect with other people), it's also her big heroic moment (getting endless sphene to live and die as herself, thereby elevating their final battle past the realpolitik struggles of two states competing for limited aether and turning it into a space for two people from unfamiliar cultures to understand each other, recognize their similarities, and come to terms with reality). it's what koana has to do, it's what BKJJ has to do, gulool ja is doing his own little baby bildungsroman right now, new sphene is figuring out what it MEANS to be true to yourself if your purpose seems to have disappeared from beneath you...all this to say it's interesting to have g'raha set it up so explicitly here
something that really interestingly sets up dawntrail again here imo: not only are both your options here about adventure (and hey, fitting for cosmic exploration release time, that's another star trek ref up top), but neither is about the threat to eorzea. wuk lamat is very explicitly in eorzea for a political purpose: she needs you to back her claim to the throne to help her defeat zoraal ja and put an end to his policy goals before they can come to fruition, and she emphasizes that in her pitch to you. and you're like "yeah i'll come, seeing new stuff sounds awesome". you CAN'T say "i don't really want to, but i cannot abide the threat you described", which is a very common sentiment the game allows you to express in other situations! see, e.g., zenos. just a neat note here.

Pairing: Theodore Nott
Theodore Nott is the king of sarcastic assholes. Not much that comes out of his mouth isn't dripping in sarcasm.
He's also one of the more resigned of the Slytherin boys, often just watching what trouble the other boys will get themselves into, observing from a far.
The first time he really notices you, you're sitting in front of him in class and Mattheo has pulled another one of his stupid little stunts. Theo is watching it all unfold when he hears you mutter the snarkiest little comment under your breath and he can't help the snort that escapes.
After that, he can't help but notice you more, you just match his energy perfectly.
The first time he asks you out, it's just a simple library date where he lets you drag him around, rambling on about different books you love and the stories you've written.
Theo is a listener, and he loves hearing you spout on, knowing it's because you've grown comfortable around him.
Of course Theo isn't one to let others know he's gone soft. (Can't have people thinking he's gone and found emotions.) And so he's all stoic and aloof around others.
But the moment he's alone with you again, his shoulders relax and his eyes soften.
Your favorite type of dates are ones where you both sneak out of your respected houses late at night and meet at the astronomy tower, always seeing who had the more difficult journey up to the tower.
(It's often Theo since Ms. Norris loves patrolling the dungeons since that's where all the mice are.)
Theo is also very possesive. While he may not show his emotions to the world, he still wants everyone to know who you belong to.
And that means you're sitting front and center at every single one of his quidditch matches, wrapped in green and silver.
And as soon as the match is over, you're wrapped in his arms, sweaty uniform be damned.
No one is shocked or surprised the two of you go so well together. You just compliment each other perfectly whether it's the fact that you two just get each other's humor, or push each other to be the best in every class.
Theodore is simply obsessed with you, and you have him wrapped around your little finger.
