Ranking Every Wolfwood!!

happy wolfwood wednesday! i've ranked every wolfwood and it very quickly got out of hand and turned into more of a character analysis/meta. it was really fun and helped me better understand why i love this guy so much!

yes, really!

i hope you guys enjoy and that my autistic rambling makes sense!

1. trimax wolfwood. yeah he’s perfect. nothing else to say. god bless

while i can’t fit everything i love about him into one post, just know that i’ve written almost 30,000 words in wolfwood (and vash) character studies. so when i say “i like trimax wolfwood” that really means “i am fucking obsessed with trimax wolfwood”.

he’s the perfect mix of silly and heartbreaking, funny and serious, annoying like an older brother, deeply kind, so so painfully human; and a PERFECT foil to vash. simply phenomenal writing.

my only complaint would be that his tits are not on display like they are in the 1998 anime. but i can appreciate the subtly, so this doesn’t detract from his otherwise flawless score.

2. 98 wolfwood. omg hiiiii hehe twirling my hair ohh he’s so handsome what an absolutely beautiful design for him. his nose, his spider-esque shape, his TITS…… they even kept his little whiskers!

on top of an amazing design, he’s a very good balance of silly, irritable, playfully annoying, and serious! he fits pre-trimax wolfwood to a T!

but, as trimax progressed…

he’s cool. too cool. he has too much pull. wolfwood should NOT have swag. genuinely it is imperative to his character that he is, and i say this as lovingly as possible, a fucking loser with no friends.

wolfwood is a deeply traumatized man. he isn’t nearly as charming as we, the audience, thinks he is. no one laughs at his jokes, his insults are crude and immature, he embarrasses himself in front of literal children…

god, he is so painfully awkward. and who wouldn’t be in his situation? to have your childhood stolen and forced to grow up as a weapon? not allowed to interact casually with anyone else during the most important developmental stage of your life?

he's just not suave like tri98 wolfwood is. so, while 98 wolfwood is an excellent character, he doesn’t entirely read “wolfwood” to me. similar to how 98 vash is good on his own, but he’s just not “vash”. this is, of course, the result of making an anime out of a manga that wasn’t even 30% finished at the time. while i don’t understand the reasoning behind this, i know that nightow desperately needed the funds the anime brought in, as well as the motivation to keep making trimax, so i have to simply make peace with the dated characterizations tri98 has.

but don’t get me started on the milly situation. really a godawful writing decision, idk who approved that mess.

3. tristamp wolfwood. he is so bullyable. he’s like a sopping wet cat. absolute fucking dweeb.

i debated this for a long time—whether i should rank tristamp wolfwood above tri98 wolfwood. and i asked myself, do i love tri98 wolfwood because he’s a good character and is similar to trimax wolfwood? does he even remind me of trimax wolfwood at all? well, not really, he’s very clearly based on pre-trimax, just like tri98 vash is.

ultimately i decided i do genuinely just prefer tri98 wolfwood, but i felt the need to defend tristamp wolfwood because i see a lot of fair criticisms but also really dumb discourse throughout the fandom about him. so here’s my attempt at trying to address these:

so, there are some things i really enjoy about him and some things i really dislike; and, unlike vash, most of these criticisms are not a result of time/pacing issues. they’re easily fixable.

like, for the love of god he NEEDS to get sillier. they got the loser part down, but he’s a bit too overtly sad in tristamp. i think he will be more like his trimax self in season 2, but wolfwood’s humor is in-part a coping mechanism and important to his character. he’s an older brother! he’s fucking annoying! he thinks he's funny when he isn't! we do get a little bit of this with him and meryl, when he's tormenting her at the campfire, and that’s what i want to see more of. even if he’s playing it up, he should be working on getting their guards down, convincing them he isn't going to betray them.

since tristamp takes place in a weird prequel sort of canon, i get that he would look/act younger than he is in trimax. i think he was modeled after the teenage wolfwood we see in the flashback scenes of him training for the eye of michael, where he’s noticeably less outgoing and more reserved.

however, this doesn’t change the fact that he WAS silly as a kid in trimax, before his “teenage angst phase” (hate to call it that when it’s more like a “realizing he’s going to die by the gun and not being able to do anything about it” phase). but he’s still a lot quieter and reserved in tristamp as a kid, so i think we really need to find a good balance here in the trigun adaptations.

another example of an easily fixable issue—i really hate how they did the “vash sees how kind wolfwood is” scene, in which wolfwood gives money/snacks to children. in tristamp, wolfwood already knows the kid is zazie, which tells us absolutely nothing about his character. this scene is almost entirely worthless, only good for reminding vash that he should eat, which gives tristamp its own not-as-good hospital yuri scene.

and, so, about the elephant in the room… i don’t think he was whitewashed. let me try to explain my thought process.

tristamp, as far as i can tell, doesn’t seem to be taking any inspiration from tri98, whose wolfwood is very explicitly a brown man. trimax wolfwood i feel is a bit more ambiguous in his skin tone, which alternates between dark screentones and completely uncolored pretty much at solid 50/50 odds. just fairly inconsistent overall, even on the official manga covers.

but this doesn’t mean wolfwood is white in tristamp, and it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have his aquiline nose. the notorious scenes of him in the suns, looking white as a fucking sheet, shows us how a 3D environment can diminish a character’s silhouette and distinctive features.

compare this to scenes of wolfwood in a dim environment, or to the 2D scenes of child wolfwood and livio that i can't include bc i'm only allowed 10 pics. he looks MUCH better, much darker than vash, and as they both should appear in such lighting. it just doesn't add up—he should be much darker in strong light if they followed the same color values:

SO, even though i feel like all of this is more of a technical issue rather than malicious whitewashing, that doesn’t mean i think it’s acceptable. it looks fucking awful, and the lighting system needs major improvement to work with darker skin tones.

and, like, at the end of the day, wolfwood isn’t canonically latino, and he doesn't really have a consistent skin tone either. it’s a great headcanon, one i partially share, but it’s not canon. the only ethnicity that could technically be considered somewhat canon is japanese, as wolfwood was based off a japanese singer named tortoise matsumoto. you can see this resemblance best in early trigun!

and i really need to defend his nose!!! a lot of people say he lost his nose but he didn’t!! i promise it’s there!!! another victim of his 3D model, you can only see his nose from the side or in the 2D frame after he gets his shit wrecked. see how clearly he has a very well-defined nose when he’s hand-drawn? this is what i mean when i say a 3D environment can drastically alter a character’s important features, as much as i otherwise adore the animation for this show.

also, if you think nightow would let studio orange get away with not including his nose, you got another thing coming.

in conclusion, while i think tristamp wolfwood is a great start, he’s just not quite there yet. but i have immense faith that the next time we see him, he’ll look and act a lot more like he does in trimax!

i know this is true, because there are already some shots in tristamp where i’m just like. oh yeah. there he is. that’s wolfwood. there's the guy i love so much

4. badlands rumble wolfwood. ah, now here’s a great example of overt whitewashing. no lighting excuses this time, just blatant colorism.

even if he wasn’t ghostly white, there's just something about his design that makes me viscerally uncomfortable and i can’t pinpoint what it is exactly. he’s just so… angular. he has no scruff, no kitty cat mouth, his eyes are very oddly shaped, almost no eyebrows... i just really hate looking at him!

his ONLY saving grace is how mentally ill he acts in this movie. and his tits. otherwise i don’t really have much to say about him!

So the reason why I haven’t posted the chapter yet is for a few reasons 💕 One, from a writing standpoint this one is quite longer, and I want it to be amazing for you guys! When I was writing the first chapter I had a friend to help me with the dialogue (which is why I feel I really struggle) and rn I don’t, so I think I’ve been nervous about that a bit.

But also, because in my real life there’s been a lot of major changes recently. In September I found out that I have CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) which, is basically like mold sickness but, like, permanent. So I’ve been trying to find somewhere safe to move/detox from the mold w meds bc my body can’t on its own, and I’m actually just finally moving into my new apartment on Sunday! 💖🙌🏻 so that’s cool.

Besides that, I also got diagnosed with, like, idk, I guess it’s a disability, technically, and the fact that I’ve been struggling my whole life with it but never knew has been… kind of mind blowing tbh? Like I haven’t told anyone except one person about it—not even my best friends yet—bc it’s been a lot to work through since… I guess I’ve technically had this my whole life but only now know at 25? 😅🤯

So it’s been a lot of working on my health both physically, mentally, and with moving, my family, Christmas coming up, and trying to find a job/support myself even day-to-day, it’s been kind of taxing tbh balancing everything. And that’s not even mentioning the little social life I do have 😅😭🙈 So while I know it’s frustrating waiting, and I’m sorry that it’s taken so long, I do want to be open and tell you guys what’s going on behind the scenes 💕 Granted, I know not everyone necessarily cares, and that’s okay! If you did read all this, though, I appreciate you and hope you have an amazing day!

Collecting some thoughts on veilguard cause tbh I really don’t know how to feel lmao so. Unstructured ramble time

I’ve watched the trailer and the demo and I feel very. Idk? Still ‘wait and see’ mode for me. It’s been 10 years. Inquisition imo was the weakest of the 3. And while I have kind of moved on from DA there is a part of me that wants this to just blow everything out of the water and be amazing. I’m just not sure if that’s what I think will happen. Right now, I just think it doesn’t feel dragon age-y enough (in terms of what I, personally, consider the defining traits of the series) but I don’t want to jump to conclusions with so little information

The trailer was. Fine. Vibes were a little off but given its Varric narrating, it makes sense (also. Unpopular opinion lmao. I love Varric but I don’t think he should be a companion again. If there’s a carry over companion, it should have been Dorian. And tbh he could still be there, considering they said 7 companions but Varric is not included in that. So did they mean 7 *new* companions and maybe a few others? Advisors again maybe? Idk. Maybe Varric is a temporary companion, but I don’t think he should be there except maybe as a cameo. Scout Harding is an unexpected but fine carry over though). I don’t really have an opinion yet on the companions themselves cause there’s just. Nothing to base an opinion on other than the character designs

Gameplay demo shows that they’re definitely going very Inquisition-y. As in, continuing further down the path it started. Which isn’t unexpected, but is a bit disappointing, though not necessarily a dealbreaker as of yet. It’s probably smart tbh to go more in an action rpg direction than back to the crpg roots given it’s going to be compared to bg3 no matter what they do - better to differentiate as much as possible. Though I don’t think that’s why they did it, probably more a happy accident. I just. Idk, I found inquisitions combat a bit boring and I haven’t been impressed by what I’ve seen yet. But a 20 minute demo is probably not enough to really form an opinion

I feel like you can still see the echoes of this being a live service game at one point too. Healing potions coming from pots found in the environment (I never got over healing spells being cut btw lmao, bring back spirit healers already), the “ability wheel” (unsure about that too, given it sounds like we can’t control companion characters anymore? Kinda really don’t like that :/), stuff like that. I still feel like DA2 combat was the perfect balance between fluidity and strategy but it is what it is. It performed badly, so they’ve disregarded it wholesale rather than consider that some aspects of it may still be worth exploring. It sucks, but that’s capitalism I guess

As for all the other little things, idk, I really am not sure what to think yet lmao. Some sound good. Some less good (why only 2 companions, I don’t like that at all - also weird that the demo shows you won’t have a tank for the initial bit of the game. That’s a weird choice). Nothing to make me go aaaaaa either positively or negatively yet. I don’t even know what to say. My feelings are just so complicated about it, but also kinda empty at the same time. Like. It’s a bit of kombucha girl meme but also muted? I would like to feel just. More about it. But I don’t yet. I’m too unsure. Not quite numb, but almost tbh

At this stage, I feel like I’m gonna wait till it comes out and see what happens. No pre-ordering until I get a better idea. It’s like. With origins, I’ve played it a lot. DA2, even more - countless times lmao. Inquisition though, I played 2.5 times immediately after release and have tried to play it multiple times since but. I only ever get 10-20 hours in before I get bored and can’t make myself continue. I’ve tried many, many times and idk why but I just can’t do it. I never even played any of the DLC, so like. I kinda need to do that first if I’m gonna play veilguard but I have never succeeded before so idk how I will now lmao. But I feel like at least trespasser is necessary and I have genuinely never played it. And I gotta play the rest of the game first to get there and I genuinely don’t know if I can sksksjs

And with that in mind like. If inquisition is that unappealing to me, a game that feels very inquisition-y, potentially leaning even more into the stuff I didn’t like about it, is. Definitely not what I was hoping for. It’s still possible it’s leagues better than inquisition and actually playing it will be a great experience. But right now I just don’t know. I probably won’t be able form any kind of opinion until it comes out and I start getting info from trusted folks that I know have good DA opinions lmao

Idk. I’m not trying to be a wet blanket or a hater, and I genuinely don’t think I am being a hater at all, but I am just. Very tired and nervous. But also cautiously hopeful. I’ve said ‘idk’ a lot lmao but I truly don’t know at this stage. I guess we’ll see. Hi i just wanted to say I love your works and profile sm, I love how you represent fireafy and coinpin and each of their respective characters, and I especially love how you represent Coiny. I feel like from what I've seen people don't see how Coiny really is, they usually just reduce him to a jerk or a firey slapper. But he's so much more and so different from that lke in canon he's so driven and serious but then fun and chill when needed, and how he can be fun and silly but then empathetic and sweet when given. and I feel like the way you represent him is so accurate and takes evey aspect of him in canon as well as headcanons that just FIT HIM SO WELL and idk it just makes me so happy. I also LOVE your headcanon of him being able to pull both masculinity and femininity, I love it so much it emulates the essence of him so well so be so comfortable in himself and not have a shred of toxic masculinity or anything like that. And I love how you make him adore pin like YES HE ADORE AND LOVES and does whatever pin wants it just makes me so happy esp with how gorgeous she is and as someone who is also plus sized and having issues with self image seeing coiny adore pin like that makes me believe in myself more idk how to explain it but YEA hahah just really like how you depict his charcater as a whole

coiny is one of my favorite characters he’s sooOOO FUNNY AND CHARMING! i love expressing his silly side and how dumb he is sometimes so i do it in most of my work (because it’s lighthearted almost every time) and it makes me so happy to see him being so.. coiny! he is genuinely such an amazing character and the perfect balance of cool, kind, and idiotic(affectionately) he’s so nice and so compassionate and i appreciate that about him so much and I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU CAN ENJOY MY PORTRAYAL OF HIM BECAUSE HE IS SO AWESOME! you’re the only person i feel comfortable saying this to. but i feel like a fake fan for not wanting to/not engaging with tlou2 content. i don’t like the story and i don’t like the characters/characterizations. it makes me really sad and uncomfortable at times. i won’t be watching season 2 when it comes out. i’m sure the making of it and the actors will all be incredible it obviously has nothing to do with them.

i know there’s like a whole thing where you don’t have to engage with content you don’t like blah blah but it just feels like *some* (emphasis on some, not generalizing here) tlou fans really get mad with people who don’t like tlou2, they think that they don’t understand it and are just mad there isn’t a happy ending and just hate abby. which, idk, i would never expect a happy ending of an apocalypse story. but there are so many problems with the story that i cannot get over. and yeah. i don’t really think **** should have died (asterisks for spoiler). honestly these people make me want to engage with tlou2 even less.

i love tlou1 and it’s been such an outlet for me and for so many others with parental trauma. i think it’s okay to want to protect that.

i wonder if you think it’s okay and still good etiquette (for lack of better word) to not engage with tlou2 for these reasons?

i know you’ve spoken about tlou2 before and your take on it. i wouldn’t ask you to go through this all again, but i just felt like this was a safe outlet to say all this. i’m sorry if this was a bother!!!

I've watched the show and played both games, and it is always okay to dislike any aspect of a canon universe, no matter what your reasoning is.

A tiny part of me is still riding the denial train and hopes that Craig will at the very least vastly improve the plot if not change it, but since Neil is also involved I doubt it. The first game was perfect as a stand-alone, and just like you, the characters and the world helped me work through a bunch of issues.

It didn't need a part 2, especially not one that demolished everything they had built. The one we got also destroyed some of the comfort the first game had simply because once you know how the story ends, you will never be able to see it again like you did before.

Pedro and Bella will be amazing in season two, that am sure of, and I hope Kaitlyn can shield herself from the hate she will undoubtedly receive.

The fandom is, like you said, very. sensitive about part 2 opinions that aren't "I loved it and want Abby to rail me", and it would be hilarious if it weren't sad and didn't involve those people harassing others. After playing part 2, I realised that 90% of the tlou content I see anywhere is so removed from what is actually happening in the game that I cannot take anyone who praises it seriously.

For some reason, many seem incapable of separating themselves from people's opinions about the game. If you told me you liked the game and constantly talk about it, sure, fine, I am not a toddler, I can co-exist or even be friends with someone who has a different opinion on a video game. 99% of the tlou2 fandom just cannot do the same and I have no idea why, they take any and all non-positive takes and treat them like I personally insulted their mother.

The pure game mechanics of it, the infected, the environmental designs, the details—all of that is beautiful and I genuinely enjoy playing Ellie's Seattle Days because of that; I just try not to think about why she's there. But for a story-driven game, good mechanics and nice graphics aren't enough to balance out the shit writing.

Even if we ignore the Death tm, there are so many other issues, including various flavours of homophobia and transphobia (that I also never saw anyone talk about??? and I mean transphobia in the writing itself, not the characters), plot issues, pacing issues, horrible character development, and much, much more.

Not liking the game and feeling uncomfortable watching/playing it makes perfect sense, and you 100% have the right to block any and all content related to part/season 2. I know you know that, but sometimes it really does help to have someone else tell you something you technically already know (half of my therapy sessions consist of me and my therapist talking about stuff I already know).

No one—and I mean no one—gets to decide that for you. Anyone who demands you expose yourself to something that makes you feel like shit is an asshole and has no validity.

I hope this wasn't too rambly and turned out somewhat coherent. My inbox is always open for you (or others) to talk about anything tlou related. I've weathered several waves of hate from those people and I couldn't give less of a fuck about it.

The tone is much more mature. The themes are different in a good way - they haven't changed much of what exists in the canon, just shifted focus. Adult side characters are getting more story. Stakes feel higher. Violence! Grittiness!

Firebenders are really fucking evil so they need to balance it with more morally gray/evil earthbenders and more upfront sympathy/development for Iroh and Zuko

This show could be enjoyable to someone who has never seen the cartoon before but it is definitely written for us, those who had our hearts broken by the movie

Sokka is not overtly sexist and honestly I'm okay with it. I like that arc for him in the animated tv show but with the tone of the live action, he couldn't just be funny sexist, he would have to be dark sexist and that just wouldn't be Sokka. Plus I like how they focus more on Sokka's sense of duty because it creates a good foil for Aang.

I was never really a big Sokka/Suki shipper but DAMN.

can I say a confession. I kinda lost all my interest in the MCU not even the prospect of zendaya and tom returning in sm4 is exciting to me obviously I would eat up a press tour but not the movie. I dont post end game this MCU has been rather flat and dull. No hate to people who love the MCU, I really hope the MCU delivers yall some magical stuff. Its just watching other major blockbusters and seeing their quality like top gun or mad max or dune or spiderverese like Im reminded at what cinema can be when creators are given time and freedom to build their own worlds and create unique moments story telling or when we see great cinematigraphy and sound design.

Like Im glad I opened myself to see smaller things or films I've never thought I would watch like poor things, american fiction, la chimera, all of us strangers, past lives and just being transported and experiencing something amazing and emotional and feeling rewarded as an audience member. I dont know I feel like mcu is kinda lagging behind and I feel lile audiences deserve better products and the MCU just dont deliver anymore.

Anyway.....

I'm definitely a self-proclaimed "Marvel Girl" (always have been 😊), but I also love DC comics as well. I'm not one of those who feels like fans HAVE to choose btwn one or the other. 👀

With that said, Marvel to me is like the fun, exciting, "junk food" of cinema. Like eating junk food, watching Marvel movies is fun to digest, it's enjoyable, it's exciting, you feel GREAT while watching it, and you can't wait until you see some other new films coming out.

But, you can't exist SOLELY on junk food and be healthy, just like if you're truly a fan of film, you can't ONLY watch Marvel films and be 100% satisfied in your movie-viewing life. 🤷🏾‍♀️ You need a balance.

While I love Marvel, I too have noticed that some of their more recent films have left some fans a little disappointed, and just feeling a little "Marvel Fatigue".

I honestly think that they got worried that after they killed off most of the OG Avengers, that fans would lose interest, and so they started just churning out more and more films and series in order to put out the "next phase". But in all honesty, I kinda feel like after NWH and Wakanda Forever came out, I sort of feel like Marvel should have taken a little bit of a BREAK, and allowed the fans to miss them (sometimes, absence makes the heart grow fonder), and really taken their TIME in writing better films going forward after resting for a few years. 👀

Cuz you're right, some films are feeling a little sloppy and rushed, and honestly, when you compare some of the newer Marvel films to films like "The Dark Knight" , or even "The Batman", or shooot.... even "Spider-man 2" lol 😆, you can kind of see the STARK difference. (No pun intended lol)

Obviously, Marvel films aren't going to be like "Poor Things" or "All of Us Strangers", so I wouldn't even compare them to those types of films rofl 🤣

But yea, like when you even compare some of the Marvel films to a movie like "Top Gun: Maverick" (which was AWESOME and brought back old school style Hollywood filmmaking), you can tell the immediate difference in how you feel when watching it, the writing, the cinematography, the MUSIC, everything....

I think Marvel reigned Supreme for many many years (over a decade), and so maybe they got lazy or felt that MORE content more OFTEN was "better", but I actually think the opposite. 👀 🤷🏾‍♀️

ditya annisafira titled birthday of jakarta. i don't really like this look. i think the pattern on the dress is kinda tacky. i'll give this a 6/10

reina ramadhani & laila nur ramdaniah titled pavo maticus. this is really clean i really like bot of the looks its not too loud n not too quiet. it's the right amount 7.5/10

alaika sugih katresna & rosenna may titled the feminine energy of bugis this is sooo good omg the detail is amazing like holy shit. this is what i want to see 9.5/10

hana gresilia purnawan & istiqamah alam titled sukma dahayu estungkoro. it looks clean but the temple motif is kinda ruining it. it feels out of place. if it just the stripes motif with purple without the temple motif, i genuinely think it will make it better. 7/10

lidya tetangena sinulingga & nadia mutiara meiyefi titled paradise in bali. i like the design of the right one. but, its too loud with all the motif. the second one im not so crazy about. man another one ruined by the motif on their design. 7/10

alifya ainur islamiati & zahra deffi alfandy titled eccedentesiast dar neira. i love the volume of it the colour the red string accent that made it like the wearer is bleeding. i'll give it a 7.5/10

regina simamora, listya kurnia illahi & hanifah muffidah titled a sawalapattra from a queen. i like the first n the third one. n the second one. feels out of place like it wasnt suppose to be in the collection. 7/10.

nagita putri maulida & siti fairunisya zahra titled suka dan duka. this is really good. i love the shoulder pad n armor thing it really give a shape. n the detail on that it's immaculate. 9/10

gina naura aliyyah & naswa kayla adristi titled metaverse: the new age of timun mas. idk why theres metaverse on the title its really cringe ngl n without it, it'll be a better title like just why. anyway, the collection is really good i love how in one of the look the sleeves is full of hole. it elevate the looks. 8/10

sherly ersaputeri & elvia alda yuvada titled magnificent of ntt. the macrame detail is so umfff. it's really strong n the asymmetry is still proper. it still have balance 8/10

annisa tri wulandari, suci hayati permata firdaus & nur halida rusmayanti titled lurus. this looks really clean. everything looks good n easy on the eyes. i really love the metallic accent on the bottom of the second one. 8.5/10

errina agnes ambarwati titled alterego. at first i was like if the right one is also black n white it'll look like a cohesive collection. n then i realize that the collection titled alterego n now i get it. i love the layer of fabric works on the right one. n the black n white on the left one is also looks good. 9/10

brigita joan van room & muthya riza fadlillah titled 15th of krakatoa. the clothes is appropriate to the title but its kinda too basic maybe playing with layer will elevate it. anyway 7.5/10

gaitsa nurfalah azzahra & rifa rifdah titled dreamy beta. trans a bi colour omg omg omg. on the serious note i love how the fabric interact with each other it looks beautiful n easy on the eyes. 8/10

irna dwinisssa hidayati & hafizha ulya titled dusk in palembang. this is how u do thing with traditional fabric in modern age. it looks amazing. it's modern n it's classy. 8/10

clara alicia putri hendrawan & divantya abeerah titled tenun palembang. n this is a down grade to the last one. it's boring. 6/10

cut fadhiya titled beauty of ulos. this is a complex look it have beading. it have embroidery n it have a traditional fabric that takes time to make. but it's too loud sometimes less is better. 7.5/10

dara salma tunggal iko & syarifah awaliyah titled fascination of gayo. i love the use of orange n green on the right one i wish the left one done that too. 7/10 it's nothing crazy

aqilah audira & rania setiawan titled pleasant dayak. it have a good silhouette but the transition of colour on the right one doesn't feel right it's kinda off putting. 7/10

farizka shobrina adzania & fita ghonnia titled batari srikandi. it looks good but nothing really crazy. 7/10

melia puspitasari & sarah pongmasangka titled lombok's treasure. this is giving rich ppl. it's elegant the ruffles looks amazing. 8.5/10

evalina permata febrianti & ayesha tazkia ar rahny titled elita. this is amazing the wavy embossed pattern is perfect. 10/10 everything is perfect from the idea to the execution.

nabila dwi rezky maramis & azka auliya rissandy titled the ethereal of flores. love it but the asymmetry on the sleeve on the right one is not really balanced. the right one is really good tho. 8/10

I'm gonna be a hater under the cut acc

my beef with this movie is fr that people inflated my expectations too much by comparing it to atsv and the last wish and I think yall need to get your eyes and ears checked. the animation is fine - I don't mind the character designs and you can lowkey tell there might have been some budget issues but the facial animations are v good and the second part of the movie has some amazing bits. I hate the 50/50 design of the modern elements with medieval fantasy but that's personal preference

but I'm throwing hands over the writing quality, structurally and thematically this movie just does not work. it struggles heavily with balancing tone - that goofy ass scene where the director kills nimona disguised as ambrosius almost made me close netflix like girl... it just doesn't work tonally. a lot of the jokes fell flat and the story constantly trips over characterization trying to tie everything together but confusing itself in the process and walking circles around its themes. in the end it barely interacts with most of them and character relationships suffer for it - ambrosius and ballister made so little sense it's actually impressive how much they can run around the plot getting nowhere

everybody who compares nimona to jinx owes me $20 for lying to me 🙏 because this movie struggles tonally so much it doesn't strike a balance in her character at all, she's an annoying little chaotic agent of starting the plot and wacky shenanigans majority of the time and then has lil tidbits where we're meant to be like she just wants to be understood :< but it honestly feels like befriending someone in high school who has no friends and then finding out exactly why nobody can stand them. also ngl the amount of structural damage nimona commits only to then be like they think I'm a monster </3 is hilarious like bitch you threw my car across the city that's pretty fucking monstrous to me. I get that it's like she became a monster because they treated her like one but lord, the clunkiness of her character doesn't make it easy not to be a hater

the whole institute thing isn't a particularly complex idea so it's not hard to figure out what they were going for but despite being the main drive of the movie it's like it's scared to touch its own implications so the whole thing feels unexplored and flat - I did hear that's done much better in the novel so idk what went wrong here, I do remember spop was equally clunky when it comes to the whole brainwashing/deprogramization aspect of the story

overall, an averagely enjoyable movie, I won't rewatch but it was okay. the most annoying part is that it was almost there, the story just needed some work, something to balance it out

watched nimona today and while I did not like this movie overall, I have to say I still wholeheartedly support queer people's right to make mid ass movies the way straights do

Okay so I’ve decided I’m gonna take some time to watch the x-men movies but even that can get messy

So which movies do you suggest I watch and in what order?

ok babe so there's of course there's plenty of lists floating online if u don't like my version, but let's go! I am going to sort the films into three categories 1. pls watch 2. eh it doesn't really hurt either way 3. avoid until u wanna or forever idk

what's important to know is that the xmcu has two timelines. there's a lot of continuity issues in general (something that never bothered me much), but essentially there is the original timeline (stewart and mckellan) which mcavoy!charles and fass!erik were apart of until 1974 when the branch occurred

1. x men first class (2011): this one is just fun. I watched the original x men when I was a kid, but If you are a new fan i'd suggest starting here to give u a taste of the x men

2. x men (2000): listen! no this is not in chrono order! no I don't care! chrono barely matters in the xmcu anyways soooo..... you've gotten a taste of the newer stuff, I want u to dive into the og!

3. x men (2003): as a cherik fan I think its important to see charles & erik's relationship and how far its deteriorated/how willing they are to use each other so you can really appreciate the newer films

4. x men last stand (2006): don't

5. wolverine origins (2009): personally I don't find this one as offensive as everyone else seems too? the plot isn't great but I love logan

6. x men days of future past (2014): we've reached it. my all time fave x men movie. it is a time travel film, which I know we can all be wary of, but everything in the past is new content and the costume design is amazing! if u want to watch this one after x men first class go for it, I just think its important to see the x men's relationship dynamics in x men 2000 bc the film balances past and present

7. x men apocalypse (2016): all u need to know about this one is erik has a flashback memory about charles and cries. that's literally it.

8. dark phoenix (2019): the only part necessary is the last three minutes when erik and charles are on a coffee date playing chess

9. &10. deadpool 1 and deadpool 2: these are also so fun! they're also so violent, so if that's not ur thing def pass. but there's a canon lesbian relationship, there's a main character with vitiligo, deadpool kills a p*do, he flirts with men and women, overall good time

11. logan (2017): listen. this is one of the best x men films. but its also so painful. its a post apocalyptic western and logan is dying. the wolverine is on his last days. and it hurts.

12. I don't want u to end on a sad note so just watch the cherik chess date in paris scene again <3

Atsushi Nakajima:

he’s definitely the kind of guy who still had no idea what he’d take up in university even after he was accepted 

either wants to not major in anything at all or just major in everything because he’s also scared that he’ll eventually not like what he’s majoring in

so for his first two years you’d probably find him jumping around different classes 

also he still calls the professors ‘teacher ____’ like a high school student and everyone laughs but thinks its cute

eventually, because of his *cough cough* traumatic childhood he decided he wanted to help children by becoming a guidance counselor

he ends up taking Child Psychology and bOY does he love it so much

well he actually just loves all of his classes because Learning is Fun

although because of his *cough cough* traumatic childhood he’s the one in class that people are all like 👀👀

atsushi: *talking about children’s responses to fear and emotional abuse by talking about his own emotional abuse*

the professor, under their breath: wait, do you need help?? 

i can definitely see atsushi as a Roommate of the Year kind of guy. he’s just so polite and tidy with his room. also he’d definitely be the type to take care of plants inside the dorm room and put them on the windowsill

in terms of extracurricular activities, he’s definitely a sporty type of person so i can see him joining a varsity (something like Frisbee because he likes things that go whoooosh) but he’d probably join a student org that does stuff like community outreach

because of all this, he is a Very Busy Boy but his friends do manage to drag him out to parties once in a while

although atsushi would probably sit in a corner and drink only one beer for the entire night 

he’s notorious for helping drunk people though. most of the time he’ll be putting blankets on people and making them drink water

if he knew how to drive he’d definitely be the designated driver

Akiko Yosano:

omg i’m so excited for this i love yosano so much 

she’s the friend who’s just effortlessly awesome all around and a fricking MED STUDENT to top it all off

she gets a bit too excited when it’s dissection time but it’s alright she has good intentions 

probably the only one in your class who doesn’t go and throw up whenever a cadaver is being used (actually do they still use cadavers i have absolutely no idea)

she also interns at the local hospital as part of her degree program but OMG yosano will not stop telling disgusting stories about the patients she’s had

everyone: *eating lunch peacefully in the dining hall*

yosano: so i pulled a guy’s toe out of a meat grinder this morning

everyone: sHUT UP

for some reason she still has a social life despite being a med student and it’s one of the mysteries of life i guess

yosano LOVES going out clubbing on friday nights. if you have the fortune of being her roommate, be prepared for make-overs and being dragged with her out to the city

she’s such a social butterfly like at every bar you go to, the bartender knows her name and her regular order. she’d probably end the night befriending a couple more people

also she’s amazing at karaoke i kid you not

as for extracurricular life, i don’t think yosano’s the type to join an org that’s related to her major cause like ‘what’s the point?’

instead, she’d probably go wherever her friends are because to her, she’ll enjoy any activity as long as she’s with people she loves

but when it comes to her own interests, i can definitely see yosano as someone who loves the outdoors, especially hiking after having to be cooped up inside clinics

it just makes her love and appreciate the value of life more

Kunikida Doppo:

ok, i KNOW he was a math teacher before he joined the ADA bUT i can’t help but think of him as a political science major ??

i can definitely imagine kunikida as someone who’d want to become a lawyer someday and would take political science as a pre-law

he does like the idea of following in the footsteps of great men but omg kunikida would absolutely hate the exclusivity of white, male political theorists

he is such a good student except for when his professor has some sketchy values then kunikida will !! fight him !! every !! chance !! he gets !!

raises his hand constantly to contradict his professor if they even tRY to defend thomas hobbes and authoritarianism

but other than that he’s probably the most diligent student out there. kunikida genuinely enjoys doing the readings for class and writing essays

also has such a balanced schedule that he can make time for anything and everything

except for when his friends dazai drag him out to parties and get a social life

despite how rigid he is, kunikida has absolutely no problem helping out others with learning. he often holds study sessions in his dorm room or in the library before exams

he also likes to volunteer in tutorial centers because he’s just like that

OH OH some of his ‘students’ suggested that he make crash-course type videos for political science and it took some convincing but eventually kunikida decided to go for it

he’s not the most tech savvy or photogenic person so it took some time for him to get used to things but after seeing all the comments from people who benefited from it, he decided to continue with his crash course videos

whether or not he’s the best or worst roommate is completely up to you. if you like someone who’ll basically micromanage your life from your daily schedule to your study habits, you’ll absolutely love him

he doesn’t like to go out for parties that much but he will if his friends convince him enough (kunikida’s an utter lightweight when it comes to drinking though)

Osamu Dazai: 

i genuinely have a hard time thinking about what this guy’s major would be and tbh even his friends have been wondering what dazai’s major was for TWO YEARS

that’s because he keeps taking the most random ass classes like Basic Pottery or Intro to Molecular Biology in the same semester

idk how he even plans to graduate at this point

although to be honest, i can definitely see him as a philosophy major despite the fact that i LOATHE every male classmate i’ve had who’s a philosophy major (idk they’re always so condescending)

i feel like dazai’s just taking that because it’s somewhat challenging for him but to him, university life is just more of crazy experiences rather than learning

and oh my god has he gotten up to the weirdest shit

the number of times he had to climb gates or sleep on benches at three a.m. is too many to count

dazai also loves volunteering for random things like people’s thesis projects (once, he offered to be a snake venom tester to a bio student and they told him that was illegal) or even being the school’s mascot in games

also he and kunikida probably met each other in freshman year at an intro to philosophy class and oh my god did dazai get on his nerves

what’s worse was that they had to work on a group project together and dazai was MIA most of the time and it drove kunikida crazy

that is until dazai showed up last minute to pull an all-nighter with him for their paper and kunikida just couldn’t help but be impressed by dazai’s ~~intellect~~

they don’t exactly get along but they do have some mutual respect for each other enough to work on projects well

omg if dazai ends up being your roommate I WISH YOU LUCK 

the first time you walked into your room dazai was microwaving a metal bowl and you had to run to stop it in time

also he has a tendency to wear his headphones and sing his favorite double suicide song out loud

Edogawa Ranpo:

i love this one man so much i swear to god 

ranpo is definitely the kind of person who just didn’t like school so when college applications came around he was just like ‘why bother though ???’

his friends did convince him by saying that he wouldn’t have to do subjects he wouldn’t like and just focus on his major (this is a lie btw)

is it a surprise that ranpo would choose forensic science ?? NO

he thinks its cool that he can learn about something he’s already super good at and it just gets him really pumped up to show off how good he is

LOVES getting praised by his classmates and professors

ranpo probably thinks lectures are boring as hell so sometimes he just,,, doesn’t,,, come,,, to class

if attendance IS required you can bet he’s bringing snacks and game consoles with him and sitting WAAAAY in the back of the room

his classmates think its cute that he puts on glasses before doing exams or answering his prof’s questions as a way to hype himself up

everyone calls him ‘The Greatest Detective’ and ranpo LOVES IT

despite that, he’s not too overly social he just likes being with his close group of friends UwU

he’s also someone you can drag around to places like the fair or an aquarium, but he’s not into clubbing or drinking for that matter

he DOES enjoy seeing his friends get drunk and mess with them though

ranpo isn’t into joining student organizations BUT he gets scouted a lot by detective agencies and he likes interning for them

i’m saying detective agencies because police are gross

ranpo did end up joining a baking club with the assumption that he would just be EATING the cake and not BAKING the cake

yeah he was just there for less than half a semester

Not really?

Season 2 is still my favourite season I think, when I relisten to the show it’s always the part that gets me the most excited and has me watching episode after episode. But damn does season 3 have some amazing episodes. Episode 35, 37, and 38 are probably my favourites in the entire series. I think episode 38 is probably the scariest piece of horror media I’ve ever experienced. it’s such a special and unique episode that genuinely has effected me.

I think having the show feel much larger is just a natural progression, and I think the worlds politics are absolutely fascinating. Do I miss the season 1 dynamic? Yes but I think the way this show changes it’s dynamics allot is so exciting. This show keeps suprising me in ways I didn’t expect and I think that’s because it’s not scared to change its statues-quo. My love for Faulkner and Carpenters dynamics couldn’t nearly be as great as it is if their relationship didn’t have THAT MANY layers.

Idk I’m happy this show is fully exploring everything the shows concepts has to offer, and doesn’t just stick to one status quo for a whole series. It’s allowing itself to evolve and really go deeper into the world. I love that.

Allot of times with shows I always have this “oh I wish they did this, or use this plot hook” and then they don’t because it’s too out there and it’ll just stay a fun scenario in my head. And whenever I think that with the silt verse, THEY ACTUALLY GO FOR IT. Everytime I think of a fun idea for the show, the writers come up with something WAY cooler and better then I ever could.

There’s one thing I do really miss and that’s the narration. I always loved the silt verses for their perfect balance of narration and action. And now we have episodes that are sometimes completely without any narration. I know that’s because they now can do allot more with the sound design, BUT I WANT MY COOL PRETTY PROSE. Plus some episodes can be bit more a collection of scenes then an episode with a monster of the week. But they try to balance it with still having those ‘typical monster of the week’ stuff. (Season 2 again kept that balance between plot and horror the best in my opinion.) but yeah the loss of narration is a slight loss of its own identity :(

(season 3 still does have the best monologue in the entire series by val in episode 37 so the narration doesn’t drop completely but I miss it sometimes)

Anyway, the show hasn’t ended yet. The plot hooks they have hanging out have me so excited. There’s allot they still need to resolve and that does worry me a little. But up until this point these writers haven’t disappointed me yet, so I’m putting my full faith in them.

Oh and season 3 introduced Rane, who is a definitive win for series. Ten out of ten, adore them.

is anyone else a bit disappointed in tsv s3? it's good on its own but it's just straying further and further away from the story I fell in love with. I saw someone describe it as the plot zooming out too far and I think that's exactly what it feels like to me as well unfortunately. like I miss the characters I've grown so close with, I miss the atmosphere and themes and style of a very specific kind of beautiful horror. I don't really care about the government or val or shrue, I want carpenter and faulkner to get lost in the woods somewhere lol. hope you know what I'm talking about

MY OPINION ON ;

character in general : you have quite the muse list there & i could ... honestly ? talk about only tifa , but you actually have a few other muses that i would be more than interested in interacting with because i LIKE them & know them very well . so i suppose i will give you a brief summary of those muses .

TIFA - honestly ... i originally started playing the game as a means to see if i could pick her up as a muse because i REALLY just love & adore her character . like yes , she’s really REALLY pretty . gorgeous honestly . but she just looks like she’s sweet but has that no - pushover personality . really though . she’s quite independent & means well . she has a tender touch but also can balance it out with strength . she’s beautiful , honestly . everything about her is just ... UGH . i would love to date her ngl . & even then , i think i would just be happy with being her friend . there’s just something about her that makes me go 🥺 like the more i played the game , the more i realised that she’s not really my muse type in terms of what i am able to write - at the very least , i dont think i would EVER do her any justice . she’s .... just .... too perfect for me . not to mention that she seems like a bit of an empath , and while i have plenty of muses that are ( i think they’re all OCs though ) , i would STRUGGLE with tifa . but i fell even more in love with her as the game progressed . which ended up with me shipping cloti HRNGH . 

RENO - look this man is a shit . no doubt about it . i have posted my thoughts about reno already before . so i will keep this a bit on the short side , but please understand that i fucking LOVE but also HATE him . i have a thing for assholes i suppose , but like ... it’s weird . also i like his character design ngl . idk . like i dont think i would enjoy his company but .... reno pretty .... T^T

DOROTHEA - i am actually very familiar with khalid & sylvain as well , but i will NOT go into depth about them as i unfortunately do not discuss them with others ( i have this weird reverse dupe anxiety about it since one of my very close partners ships sylvix with me & i , unfortunately , don’t have any interest in seeing another sylvain . but this also extends to khalid as well ) . i know that i have mentioned that FE3H is a bit of a nauseating topic for me just given personal history in that fandom , but i still REALLY enjoy the game & the characters . i do have to admit that i have fallen in love with dorothea recently due to her presence in a dimiclaude fanfic she is in . i am more than HAPPY to link you to the fic , but understand that it’s not complete ( & it’s not revolving around her ) . her role in the fic , though , is enough to make me go . damn . i love her . like A LOT . i think she is a character that some people sleep on at times . i know i did HRNGH please forgive me . honestly though . she’s such a diva - in more ways than one - but i just go ... mmmmm strong & powerful bi vibes . coupled with the fact that ... i adore mercie , & my go to ship for mercie is with dorothea . though that perhaps has to do with the fact that , again , this fic & discussion with a couple of people as got me all doe eyed for them . anyway .. dorothea is lovely . she’s amazing . she deserves nice things . 

KISUMI SHIGINO - lol i actually write nagisa ! though honestly free ! was one of the few animes that i really just got into but never had been able to get a strong foothold in general about talking about it to others . but it was the only sports anime i got into HRNGH . i do have to say , though , that i really do like kisumi . i liked how he looked & his personality & all . idk i just value & support supporting characters a lot ! im sorry i dont have much more than this for you T^T 

how they play them : uhhhhhhh .... honestly i will go with tifa & dorothea since i’ve seen them the most .

TIFA - yes hi so um ?????  fucking love her so much ????? man oh MAN . i have to like sometimes pull back & tell myself that i need to NOT make it sound like im wanting to ship them ( eventhoughishipthemsohard ) . but like even on a platonic level . i get so SOFT ... like ? i get so excited whenever i have something to write for you because my cloud muse just immidiately goes ‘ tifa ... 🥺🥺🥺 ‘ so yea ... i eat up ALL of your tifa content so much because it makes me so T^T she’s so soft & gentle & sweet & AHHH !! ( i am editing this & fallen started playing by gert taberner & im getting so soft again omfg ) honestly though its so clear & evident that you have such an amazing grasp in her voice & as a muse . it makes me REALLY thankful & lucky to have an opportunity to write with you . i know that we haven’t really talked lately but just know & understand that i appreciate you so much . thank you for writing her . my heart goes doki doki for your tifa .

DOROTHEA - i know you tag it appropriately ( for which i am VERY grateful for because sometimes i just need that warning due to having very little spoons ) but sometimes i do read what you have to write for her . not ALWAYS but enough to be like . ‘ oh i like this . i like this a lot ’ . i get a very healthy amount of dorothea content from you & it makes me really happy to see it . i’d like to see a little more , or , at the very least , get to talk to you about her cause i do technically have a FE3H verse for cloud dhsadshl LOL but i’m also just happy & content to just see her as well . she’s pretty ! i also would like to say that , it’s pleasant seeing dorothea written by you . it’s def helped me be a bit more comfortable seeing content & sometimes it makes me want to go back to felix to attempt to write with more FE writers instead of just flat out ignoring the fandom HRNGH .

Predictions, speculations rumors and hopes for Spider-Man no way home

Cause I’m so excited!!!!

(To comeback to this once we have footage and then once the movie is out and watched)

- Both Andrew and Tobey will appear as their Spider-Man versions. I’m sure of it. I want them to have more screentime than iron man did in homecoming but not enough to overshadow tom’s spidey. Idk what’s a good balance. I kinda feel like in spiderverse, miles was way to overshadowed by the other spider people.

- It’s a sinister 6 movie. Doctor octopus and electro are back. Misterio was not confirmed dead. The Scorpio was teased in homecoming. I think that 3 spideys is enough to fight 6 villains. I heard the sinister 6 members varies sometimes in the comics and the mcu is known for having teams will different members than the ones in the comics but we’ll see. I wasn’t at all counting on the vulture to comeback, but I found out yesterday about Adrian on the vampire movie trailer so now I’m counting on him. Liz gonna be so disappointed in you old man

- Some people are saying that mj or ned will die... I think the movie will be way to dark for that and it’s already crowded af with the 3 spideys and at least 2 confirmed villains. But then I thought about aunt may... people complain a lot about the absence of uncle Ben or how it was a plot given to tony but what if marvel switches it for aunt may?????? I’m not ready

- Other rumors include Ned being transformed in whatever he becomes in the comics.... but this also just seems way too much for the movie.

- At first I was thinking that Peter was gonna be transported to tobey’s world where he is fighting doctor oc and then andrew’s world were he is fighting electro but I think they will do like spiderverse and everything will happen in the mcu dimension

- Daredevil will appear, for court scenes

- Doctor strange will have more screentime than he did in ragnarok but not as much as tony in homecoming

- Peter’s identity reveal as Spider-Man will be shown to us handled by the school via a midtown high news will all the main classmates being interview and shit kagdiegfidgfkdjod can’t wait for flash’s reaction!!! I wish they’d show us Liz but I don’t think she will appear

- This movie better be long and I mean at least 2h30min long. AT LEAST

- Tom said this was the most ambitious solo superhero movie ever. In my opinion, that title presently belongs to Captain America civil war, so I’m freaking excited!!

- The movie will start with a villain scene like the previous ones. I love how the mcu spidey movies always start with the villain. Then, after the marvel logo, it will pick up right where the credits scene left of cause I think someone shared a photo of the set that had that lamp post

- Some people are saying he will get a new suit, but I’m not sure.

- The movie is set during Christmas. So, if the movie starts of where it left, then we will either see a time jump of some months, or the movie will progress fast. I don’t want a time jump cause I wanna see Peter deal with the consequences of not having a secret identity

- Which brings me to the next point: I don’t want the identity reveal to be erased. I don’t want time travel, mind erasing, illusions. I really want this identity reveal to be serious in his life. I also don’t want the movie to be mostly set on other realities. I want the characters to come to his. But I mean.... it’s called no way home so he will most likely spend a big part of the movie trying to get home aka his dimension......

- also... what does that mean for mj and ned’s screentime?? I want quality trio scenes

- Some rumors said kristen’s mj and Emma’s Gwen will be back and as much as I want Gwen back I don’t think this rumor is true... not even because she’s dead, cause electro will comeback with a completely new design so gwen might still be alive in that dimension but I don’t think they will be in the movie

- I think it would made sense to include prom and graduation in the last movie but idk since that would make the movie take place during a whole year since I expect it to begin where it left of in the summer vacation time and we know for sure about Christmas time scenes. Maybe this one won’t be the last mcu spidey movie... I’m praying

- I hope happy is in this! I loved his relationship with may and Peter

- It would make a lot of sense for pepper to appear but the actress is done with the mcu so..... this is the problem with many marvel movies that we have to accept. Some actors just don’t wanna participate in more than 1 movie and some have been doing this for so long that they don’t wanna do it anymore. It’s understandable but so frustrating sometimes 😭😭😭

- The people in the movie will be devided between team spidey and team misterio (also proven by set pics)

- I can totally see this "who side are you on" being played in a news montage. And mister Del Mar being interview cause he knows Peter and he’s been saved by Spider-Man

- I hope brad appears. He’s the real villain of far from home

- I want this movie to be action packed. I imagine it like infinity war where stuff happens and the heroes react. Like a ton of action from start to finish.

- some rumors explained why electro isn’t gonna be blue by saying cause he is todey’s electro and not andrew’s

- I watched a YouTube video about a leak from someone saw the storyboards. The beginning was very solid but then it got just too weird for me to believe. But they said Peter will go to the New York sanctum (?) in search of a spell to rever the identity thing and doctor strange doesn’t have such thing so he tells him to get a lawyer. This makes me believe that those photos already released of the trio, Peter, mj and Ned, are in this part of the movie. Maybe they arrive at the sanctum and search a lawyer on the computer. Tho idk if the location looks like a sanctum to me.... some people were thinking Hawkeye’s basement or something but I don’t think so

I think this is all I can think about rn.

I’m super excited for the movie.

I’ll probably keep updating this as long as we get rumors or news or footage and eventually the movie, just to see how right or wrong I was in the end

SPOILERS for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #2!

This is a comic where, the longer I sit with a particular issue, the more I’m like, ‘yeah. Yeah. YEAH.’

It’s dense in a way that invites the reader to go through it multiple times, and rewards additional readthroughs.

Also, it helps that the art is FREAKING AMAZING.

Seriously. Evely and Lopes should draw and color everything, forever, always.

(I will honestly be shocked if they don’t get an Eisner nom for this book.)

Anyways, all of this to say: Another issue that I enjoyed. It has one of the most genuinely sweet Supergirl moments I’ve seen in the comics in a good long while.

So, if you’re looking for a quick thumbs up/thumbs down rating, thumbs up!

If you’d like some SPECIFICS, though...

THE STORY

King is an evil genius because we don’t pick up where we left off--rather, we start in the midst of the Space Bus journey.

There is technically a Big Action Scene, but I was honestly surprised by how...casually? the story progressed.

Essentially: Kara and Ruthye are forced to travel by bus because 1.) Krem stole Kara’s rocket and 2.) this corner of the universe doesn’t have the right stars, so Kara’s still recovering from being under a red sun for an extended period of time.

The bus makes occasional stops; they encounter a space dragon; Kara takes some Red Kryptonite and saves the day; they eventually arrive on a planet with a yellow sun. 

And again, all of this occurs with a kind of...breezy ease that I was not expecting at all.

I assumed that the space dragon fight would make up the final moments of the issue, after having built up the problem to a point where Kara needed to intervene.

But, noooope. The space dragon happens somewhere in the middle, which helps sell the central idea that this is simply Kara’s life. She’s been there, done that. She’s a badass who takes it all in stride.

But! Important to note! Ruthye still marvels at the sight of Kara taking out the space dragon, as well she should, because:

OH MY GOD. THE aRT.

There’s only so many times I can say, ‘it’s phenomenal, it’s gorgeous, it’s stunning’ before sounding like a broken record.

But it is. It truly is. This is the prettiest monthly book on the stands right now.

(Realizing I’ve been spelling Ruthye wrong this entire time, maybe? IDK. Apologies if I have.)

It’s in the final moments of the book that we learn what transpired after Krem shot Kara and Krypto and fled: Kara managed to get Krypto and Ruthye to a healer, and then passed out for a week. 

Ruthye and Kara recovered, buuuuut...

Krypto is still very near death because the arrow was poisoned.

The healer can’t treat him until he has a sample of the poison.

Which Krem has.

(See where this is going?)

So! Kara regains her powers! Ruthye has a super on her side! KRYPTO’S LIFE HANGS IN THE BALANCE!

Gimme. Issue. 3. STAT.

THE CHARACTERS

Very much enjoyed Ruthye in this issue!

There’s a really tricky balancing act you gotta pull off when writing child characters; you don’t want to just write them as tiny adults, but you also don’t want to be obnoxious or cloying in trying to write ‘true-to-age.’

King gives himself a bit of a cheat, by setting her up as a rock farmer from a...what would you call it. An old-fashioned planet? And thus the kind of character who had to ‘grow up fast’ and behaves more maturely than your typical pre-teen might.

BUT! IMPORTANTLY! This is tempered by placing Ruthye in situations where her (understandable) ignorance is challenged/put to the test. Like, yes, she is mature, and well-spoken, and utterly tenacious, but she’s also out of her depth, and still in need of help and guidance.

(Which is how we get to The Best Scene which I’ll get to in just a sec.)

TL;DR - this issue has really sold me on Ruthye as our POV character and I am officially Invested in the relationship between her and Kara.

Speaking of...

It’s KARA-CTERIZATION TIME!

So, okay. There’s some ‘eh’ stuff in this one, but, BUT!

We got the goods again.

And by ‘goods’ I mean this:

Whatever other nitpicks I have (and I do! Have one! Which I’ll get to!) THIS. This right here! This is Supergirl. This is Kara.

And what a beautiful line to introduce this moment:

“And it began--as most things begin when you’re dealing with Supergirl--with a moment of kindness.”

It’s the same gentle concern we saw in the previous issue, where Kara knelt down to address Ruthye eye-to-eye. 

Here, Kara’s facial expression, and the way she takes Ruthye’s hands and shows her what to do...

It’s just. SO SWEET.

Ahhhhh it’s so good. :D

So good! In fact! That the above scene offsets my one complaint, which is that Kara came off as harsh, IMO, when addressing the bus passengers, looking for Red K. 

Other good stuff from this particular portion of the book: we get Kryptonese (maybe? I think?) And a mention of Kara’s mother being strict about certain things, which is in keeping with the 2000s series version of Alura.

Ruthye also asks if Kara ever tried to avenge the death of her family/culture and she says no; Ruthye says that she heard a lifetime of regret in Kara’s response, which I suppose could be read one of two ways:

1.) That she regrets her choice not to avenge them, or 2.) that she regrets not having the option to avenge them, as there was no one person to punch, no single action that could rectify the destruction of the entire planet.

I personally prefer the second reading.

Which I suppose contradicts the recent-ish “Killers of Krypton” arc, but who knows what is and isn’t canon anymore, honestly. XD

As for the rest of the issue! I found myself thinking of a Grant Morrison interview, actually.

Morrison apparently met a Superman cosplayer at a con and that’s when the character clicked for them: “[The superman cosplayer] was so in the character, but what really got me was the way he was sitting. It was this absolutely relaxed pose with one knee up and the arm bent over, and that’s what broke Superman for me. Suddenly I realized that Superman wouldn’t be a poser, he wouldn’t be a Muscle Beach steroid guy; he’d actually be completely relaxed because nothing could hurt him. He could be so open and friendly to everyone because no one can punch him or hurt him. He can’t get a cold, or be damaged by anything you’re carrying or wearing. For me that was the power of that, whether you want to frame it as magical or not, it actually informed the stories I wanted to write. I felt I understood him in a way I hadn’t until that moment.”

That’s always stuck with me, the idea that Clark would be the most at-ease, chill guy you'd ever talk to.

And THAT, I think, is what we’re seeing here with Kara. That at-ease-ness.

But in a way that is distinct from Clark! In the above quote, it’s clear that Morrison thinks it’s Clark’s powers that are the reason he can be so relaxed and at ease.

But Kara is de-powered here. So why is she so chill?

Because Kara is an alien.

Kara’s in her element, here. She’s used to space travel, she knows the ins-and-outs, she’s not shocked by any of the weird stuff they encounter on their journey. 

Love it. LOVE. IT.

I am SO GLAD that King decided to go with Kara being the wizened mentor, as opposed to the naïve kid learning to be tough. It’s a much more interesting angle, IMO.

Also NO MENTION OF RIVALRY BETWEEN KARA AND CLARK. WOO. LET’S KEEP THIS ROLLIN’.

Alright, last, but certainly not least:

THE GOOD BOY! KRYPTO!

When I tell you I stress-read this entire comic first thing in the morning...XD

And I am STILL stressed. And a little sad that Krypto doesn’t get to go on another space adventure but! This is MIGHTY PREFERABLE to what I *thought* was going to happen, which is that Krypto would die from his injuries, and Kara would likewise be out for revenge. 

Fortunately, that is not the case! 

So like, the stakes?!?! Suddenly sky high. Find that dirtbag Krem and GET THAT POISON BACK TO THE HEALER!!

ART and MISC. STUFF THAT I LOVE

I generally don’t like to post entire pages of a comic, or panels without context, but the...reach? of this blog is extremely limited so. I think we’ll be okay. XD

Okay, 1.) VERY COOL SCI-FI DESIGN and 2.) that line is great. “Can you feel it, Ruthye? We’re getting closer. The stars are changing.”

Mmmm, them good cosmic Kara vibes.

Kara’s attitude about the Red K here is fun, like, ‘WELP, sometimes you turn into a monster, sometimes you don’t!’ but again, the line is what gets me.

“Did my hair move?”

“I do not believe so.”

Honestly? I could post the whole comic here. Evely’s vision of ‘public transit, but space’ is just so immediately...not ‘real’, necessarily, because there’s such a fantastical element to it all, but it is fully realized. I think I used the phrase ‘lived-in’ and that’s it--this world feels like it has always existed; every grimy nook and cranny, every rando space bus traveler.

And Mat Lopes’ colors!

There are like, five distinct color palettes at work in this issue, and Lopes handles them all masterfully.

I think my favorite is the...I’ll call it ‘ethereal space aquarium’ lighting in the bus as they view the space dragon.

The glow and the shadows and the blues and pinks...

GGGGGGGGAAAHHHHHHHHHH so goooooooood

I am very much enjoying this weird, wild ride with small, precocious Ruthye and wizened, crusty Kara. XD There’s some stuff that I don’t *love* but my goodness, it could be a lot worse!
