Just shy of 31 and in the best shape I have ever been.

I was always a bit if a bigger kid, through middle school and even in high school and I hear people say all the time that the want to get back to their high school weight--not me.

I can still vividly remember how uncomfortable in my body I was and it lasted until just a few years ago. (Of course I still have my off days now and again)

My journey to where I am today was not a straight line, and it may not be the same journey that will work for you, but man am I glad I took the first step. I can't wait to see what you are able to accomplish.

I fought hard to look like the picture on the left. Daily workouts, containers to measure food, group support. I did everything right and still couldn't succeed at weight loss. Then I changed my relationship with food, moved to a low carb, low sugar lifestyle and lost 71 lbs without working out. 80% of weight loss really does happen in the kitchen. I struggled with whether or not to post this. I worried about my image, about what people would say, good and bad. I worried that it was inappropriate, that it was vain, that it was too revealing, that it sent the wrong message...but here's why I decided to post it and also why I didn't. I am NOT posting this to brag, to make anyone feel bad, to shame anyone, especially other women or moms. I am not part of the "what's your excuse" campaign which I think is AWFUL. I am not trying to flaunt myself or my body, I am not fishing for compliments to boost my own ego. I posted this because I am proud of myself. I am proud of the hard work I did to get here. I am proud, not only that I can wear a bikini for the first time in 12 years, but I am proud of the reason why. I am proud of my body for the first time in my life...And not because of how it looks and not because of my size (and though it is a nice perk to be in the best shape I've been in for years). I am proud of my body for what it can do. How I was able to do what I never thought I could, what others told me I could never do. I have always struggled with my self image, my self concept, and my weight. I have always felt and been told I was weak. In the past 12 years, I would have felt incredibly self concious posting a picture of myself in any bathung suit at all, let alone a two piece. But now....I am proud. I am proud that this body could carry and birth a child, the most awe-inspiring thing I have ever done in my life. I'm proud that I could labor without intervention, drugs or epidurals, completely naturally...not because I think it's the only way or its superior, but because I was told I couldn't do it...that it would be too hard. I am proud because despite 6 different setbacks and struggles over the course of weeks and months, I was still able to breastfeed my daughter. I am proud of the woman I have become as a mother. I am proud of my perseverance.
