still registering the fact that im graduating this summer but have already walked graduation two weeks ago. also starting a new job at a surgery clinic and i feel so so nervous, but excited bc this is what i’ve been dreaming for since i can remember. this week was my first week starting my new job and i literally was a lost puppy bc i don’t know anything!!!(and thats okay!!!) first day was on tuesday, i was standing in the surgery room overseeing two patients standing for 5 hrs straight in heavy lead gear...this transition of closing an era of my life and starting a new one feels so surreal !! like how is this my life! ? !

Heyyy i actually really loved the first Throne of Glass book back when the book first came out, I was rereading and rereading it before the 2nd book came out it was so good imo

Assassin girl who loves shopping but then who also has morals? Hot guys in the opposing side? Evil guys idek why they're evil for now (then)? Mystery and magic? Sure! Premise any 17 year old would love!

No my innocent 17yr old mind couldn't comprehend the killing off of the one poc character was totally unnecessary for the drama effect. Not yet by then but my senses were tingling. I was learning.

And then the 2nd one came out and she just began butchering the story. Look I'm not saying I'd be a better writer but the way she just ripped apart the characters that were supposed to have been on the mc's sides in the first book, blaming them for everything, moves on...and then uses the conflicts to basically make them into the bad/gray characters?

....then in the same breath just meets these new characters who's cooler (?) have more powers, and then she keeps unlocking more names (??) and became infinitely more powerful like a pokemon,

...her choices were All Right and the people she left became the Enemies?? It could've been sm more interesting to have the mystery and magic actually have had terrible cause and effect, an actually Good magic system instead of basically plummeting the mc into....magicdom of rightness

This is why HB magic series is so much better

ToG was just....it reeked of something like...a child's story, like if a teenage girl had a writing idea and then became too hormonal to write an actually good story. If we can rename an entire series, I think I wanna rename ToG as 'She Was Always Right'.

I'm not saying we can't have characters make bad decisions but to totally dunk them to make the mc look good?? No accountability on the mc because she's just All That?

And so I began hating on the series. I kept following up on the rest of it tho to see if it gets better. Spoiler, or not, it doesn't.

Then Acotar came out and i heard more things about it. What I picked up on was that the main male character Rhysand kept coming back to the bad guy to just rip him apart even when he's not doing anything to them. Rhysand is also a hot fae (im gonna vomit) similar to Rowan who's basically the Best male main character there is compared to anyone else

And it made me theorize, of how...this may have been venting of some sort by the writer from their own experiences lmao like what if sjm had an actually bad breakup that she keeps using as the punching bag in her mind for the characters that she dislike? just like Chaol that she hates sm to the point she had to cripple him, then make it like all was his fault? And then whoever this guy in Acotar is? Who's basically the placeholder for bad bad guy because now...that seems personal the way her main characters are always right.

I can't be the only one who thinks she's projecting herself into her characters, and not even in a good way

And so now i stay away from her books. You could've been cool, SJM, I'm sorry I thought you were

I think for me and my bestie who adored the first book, and now can't and won't touch sjm books with a 1000ft pole, we were just really disappointed with how it turned out. And hate as we know is sm stronger when it actually started with loving something a lot. It Could've Been Good. Lots of magic stories are good in a way that her stories aren't. She just takes alllll the magic system and make it the mc bitch because she buffs them up sm her mcs are basically untouchable beautiful powerful ladies, it's Stupid. It became a fanfiction of selfprojection and self-righteousness and no accountability. If other people think we don't like her books because Sex. Then they're wrong. I couldn't care less about the sex. I read lots of books that have em that don't annoy me. Ok I'm gonna stop now sorry lmao

She has a tendency to discard the initial cast and write a whole new one for the MC and this romance/friend group is the bestest and the most powerful and the coolest found family in the WORLDDDD!!!! Years ago there was a supposed interview where she said she names characters she dislikes after her ex boyfriends, but I can't find a source for that so take it with a grain of salt. BUT I do have to say that in ToG she at least tries to fix it, giving Chaol an entire 600 page solo book and allowing Chaol, Dorian and Aelin have their entire "besties who have forgiven each other" conclusion in the final book. And also I didn't mind that retcon all that much bc all of my fave characters showed up thanks to it, and I really disliked Chaol from the get-go so I liked how everyone kept clowning on him bsdjakbaksfk. But it is totally a valid complaint, it is understandable that seeing characters you're interested in be discarded and character assassinated is really annoying.

So since the Library is, at this present moment in time, mostly centered on Reader fics since I'm pretty active in that part of the fanfic community, the tags I usually check first are (Pedro character name) x Reader or (Pedro character name) x You. Then I do a check through the tag for the character name itself, but that tag can also usually be pretty heavy with non-fic posts so it's not my personally preferred method. not really a fact but a fun anecdote: i transferred schools in first grade, just a few months into the school year and, on the first day at my new school, went home with a random girl. apparently sabrina had invited me to hang out, so we went to her house and spent the afternoon watching cartoons and eating candy. we were both latchkey kids (quite common where im from). my mom finished work around noon and obviously shat a brick when she came home to an empty apartment. my parents freaked the fuck out, called everyone they knew and eventually a major police operation was launched within hours of my disappearance... like friends and family were searching all over town for me, police were sweeping fields and the forest next to our neighborhood and 6 year old me was just chilling at this girls house lmaooooo... her mom came home later that night and asked me if my parents knew where i was BECAUSE SHE HAD HEARD A RADIO ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT A MISSING BOY. the weird thing is that sabrina had TWO older sisters who were obviously supposed to watch her (us?) but neither of them had the wherewithal to ask "hmm do the parents of this new kid you dragged in from the street know where he is?"

- first meeting outside the restaurant. ohh how I love how awkward yet endearing they both were when they finally introduced themselves to one another. rewatching it made me realize that JY was already smitten by SA since the start. (like literally since the start y'all!!! he didn't even know her yet and wanted to stop the car to get SA an umbrella and this was in the first ep!!)

- when JY switched coffee cups with SA bc she spilt her cup and he started drinking it so she can’t refuse even though he doesn’t like coffee. - when the lovebirds fought who was gonna clean up the broken glass at JY apartment. - Their lil day trip to JY’s hometown. I like how JY was so open to SA here. When he proclaimed that he never felt “this way before”  I screamed!! It was at that moment you clearly knew as a viewer that JY never really loved JK. He might have he loved the idea of her, yes. But he never truly loved her the way he loves SA. And his realization of this in that particular episode just made me so so so happy

- Handholding in the bus scene. That shit was so freaking tender bc you can tell how content JY was. He was beyond smitten- homeboy was IN LOVE AT THIS POINT

- when JY dropped SA home. I mean everything about this scene really makes ur heart soft right?? How both of them were beaming? How SA feet probably hurt bc homegirl was wearing heels the whole day and walked another 30 min just so she can spend more time with JY? How SA said something along the lines of JY having somewhere to belong to now and you can tell this had a double meaning for him bc at this point he prob considered SA as his home..I was literally mush oh my god. 

-break up scene. I know, v painful- but this was a rare one in kdramaland where I actually thought it was necessary for them to split (still wish it was done earlier but alas I'll take it) It was a graceful and needed breakup. Also when JY pulled out that umbrella for her.... bish it was over for me

- SA’s recital. I MEAN HOW IN SYNC COULD THEY BE. I normally skip the musical performances whenever I watch dramas that are music related- but this show makes it so magical I simply could not. PEAAAKKK ROMANCE

- JY’s recital- when he played that last song I was a big mess cuz we all knew it was dedicated for SA :’’) (I listen to this piece all the time now and im so emo when I hear it bc like god WHEN)

god I love this entire interaction between cyclonus and drift, I'm so glad we got it. bc like, cyclonus is basically everything drift is trying so hard to be - cool stoic religious sword guy who used to be a bad guy, except cyclonus is still firmly not an autobot, while drift is hardcore leaning into being an autobot in an attempt to get people to forget that whole ‘murderous decepticon’ thing

and drift seems like the type of guy who cares The Most about how he’s perceived by the people around him, but he tries to act like he doesn't care, even tho its pretty obvious he does. cyclonus, meanwhile, ACTUALLY doesn't care about what people think of him, and that probably irritates drift, along w/everything else cyclonus has going on 

cyclonus is so iconic...he just smacks the sword out of drifts hand like ‘yeah we’re not doing this.’ 

aaand then he just pins drift down effortlessly...I feel kinda bad for drift cause he’s trying so hard but also, cyclonus is such an icon

JESSICA i remember i wanted her to have ~powers~ bc she started as a sleepy hollow oc and sleepy hollow’s magic system is Weird And Fun (and calling it a ‘system’ is probably being kind)

CALLIOPE i wanted a bard bc bards are Fun

CECILIA she’s a monster of the week oc so i chose her class (the flake) first

4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?

JESSICA definitely how sleepy hollow deals with magic in addition to how it’d be if it actually cared abt its characters of color (*cough cough*) she’s bisexual and puerto rican & cuban and has adhd on top of all her Magic Nonsense so there’s a lot of intersectionality going on with. everything, really, so fitting that into sleepy hollow’s lack of it was major (does any of that make sense idek if *i* understand wtf i just said)

CALLIOPE lmao the idea i have for her backstory is a lil out there even for dnd, and allowing it would totally be up to the discretion of the dm. as a result it relies a lot on the world the dm built and especially the pantheons of gods they choose

CECILIA the campaign is suppsoed to take place In Space so of course i was like “okay how can i make this The Most Difficult for everyone involved” and anyway she’s a botanist in space how fucking cool is that lmao

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation? 

JESSICA not quite. i knew i wanted her to be some flavor™ of lgbt bc of sleepy hollow’s aforementioned lack of representation but i wasnt positive on it until later in her development

family background:

she is daughter of the chairman of Myungwoo Hospital, a cardiothoracic surgeon (yes i used the hospital name that is in doctor stranger)

she has two older brothers. 

she is closer with the older one meanwhile she often fights with the second one because he tends to bully her a lot.

she is actually an illegitimate child, but no one knows of this fact except her family of course and a few from their hospital. 

her biological mother died when she gave birth to naomi. so she really didn’t know much about her real mother. 

that’s why the chairman and his family adopted her and eventually welcomed her with open hands. his wife wanted to have a daughter but cannot give him anymore due to some complications so the couple were really happy when she came in their life.

childhood:

naomi doesn’t have much memories during her childhood days.

she doesn’t have that much friends even since she was pretty much a homebody.

her family kept her inside their house most of the time.

so she never played in parks, swings and doesn’t even know the games before.

her step-mom was being super attentive to her. dressing her up, bringing her to her meetings, outings, etc.

she was a very smart kid. 18 months and she can already count from one to ten? yes! well that’s because of her step-mom’s meticulous attention in baby naomi’s progress.

she was two years old when her father started teaching her human anatomy.

she may be smart when she was a kid but wasn’t really the friendliest to other kids when she started going to school.

a bit of a brat, maybe bec her family spoiled her too much bUT she grew from that already.

why medicine?

coming from a family who are in the medical field and with both of her older brothers are doctors now, she’s expected to follow their steps as well.

she also idolizes her father, who is a cardiologist and her brothers; a cardiologist also and a neurologist.

she knew she wanted to be just like them- she really wants to be a anesthesiologist someday.

however, she’s insecure when it comes to this.

she tends to get compared a lot by her classmates back in middle and senior school, telling her that she will never be just like her brothers. her fam knew about this and reassured her that she’s smarter and all and that she can do it and be one of the best someday.

however, as times goes by and she’s growing up, she got the chance to get out of her bubble and try new things. she then discovered that she actually like to become a chef.

she grew up liking cooking a lot, as she likes to look at her nanny every time she cooks until she also tried to learn cooking, etc.

but she knows that her fam wont agree with this choice of path so she sticks to the medical field. focusing more on this destined path.

still, she enjoys cooking and exploring new recipes when she has some time.
