Based on your last post- how would you handle a villain Adrien arc? Would it be from the get-go, or would you have him change sides somewhere along the line? Would it be of his own choice and motivations, or would he be coerced into it? (Or some mix of the two where he disagrees with the method his father does things but goes along because he has the same motive, his mom?)

Villain Adrien is an incredibly hard sell for me. I can only think of one fic that felt reasonably in character and I think it only worked because it starts after Gabriel's defeat, so you don't have to actually see Adrien being evil. Anything that actually tries to show Adrien willingly hurting others just doesn't work. It doesn't feel like Adrien. Lashing out in the moment might* fit him, but prolonged villainy? Nope. You'd have to take his character through a damnation arc to make it fit. While canon has set him up for one, I don't particularly want to see that. Canon Adrien has suffered enough.

So why would I suggest villain Adrien as a solution?

I have actually spent a good deal of time trying to figure out how to make Adrien work as a villain because it's a semi-popular premise and I enjoy a writing challenge. After a lot of thought, I have a solution that I think would work. I will probably never write this fic, but the basic ideas are simple enough that I can explain the first act and why I think it would work as a way to take Miraculous beyond the Gabriel conflict.

The story would start in much the same way we already see in Origins. Gabriel activates the butterfly, leading to Fu choosing Marinette and Adrien. The big difference is that, this time around, Gabriel and Emilie tell Adrien almost everything. Adrien knows that his mother is in a coma, that the miraculous exist, and that a wish can fix everything. He just doesn't know that the wish has a downside because Gabriel didn't share that little detail. So, when Adrien gets his miraculous, he sees this as a way to fix everything. Just like in canon, he doesn't let Plagg explain everything. Instead, Adrien immediately transforms and seeks out his partner only, this time, he tries to get her earrings off of her. She knows that's a bad thing and runs away, leaving him confused. He goes to his father who is able to get his hands on the ring long enough to command Plagg's silence about the wish's downsides, ensuring Adrien is kept in the dark.

This leads to a short arc where Gabriel uses akumas to draw Ladybug out so her and Chat Noir can "talk" or something along those lines, but it doesn't go well and Adrien isn't okay with attacking the city. It isn't long before he switches sides and Gabriel is defeated, but the damage is done re Ladynoir. Marinette gets to do her "Adrien is evil" first impression, but while it's still a misunderstanding, it's not a minor one that can be solved with an umbrella in the rain. Fu is much more understanding and forgiving, so he doesn't take the black cat back, leading into a wider story where Adrien and Marinette have to fight a new evil while Marinette struggles to see past her first impression. So it's not so much evil Adrien so much as misguided and manipulated Adrien who has to win his Lady's trust and prove that he really is a hero while also working through his own guilt about everything that happened with his father.

*Quick note: canon has Adrien lash out in anger, so I can't say it's wrong to write him like that, but I think it's a massive misstep writing wise. The black cat's power set needs to be in the hands of someone who doesn't lash out in anger. Harsh words, sure, but cataclysms? Hard no. Season five made Adrien come across as totally unsuited to his powers.

Behold: an idea!!

I call it a “writeback race” (title pending) & here’s the quick gist so yall dont scroll too fast like em gen alphas with negative attention span

Combination of a writing prompt and writing challenge, though more linked and bouncy

Responding-based; a ‘writeback’ system where yall react to stories/poems made in conjunction with or in reaction to yours

Setting parameters for the writebacks! Def not full creative control but a lil touch to warn off iffy genres/topics or challenge those ppl or jus be funky

1 prompt to rule them all… at least for 3 weeks. Then a 1 week break before I chuck out another piece and prompt

Ergo a big beautiful collection (suck it orange man) where works that got at least a couple writebacks will be collated & posted on a website; ofc w/ permission & creds

So i crunched up all the big parts but for youse who got more time, here’s an explanation of the (theoretical) process!!

Exhibit A: how it starts

Say, on a Tuesday, I post a short story. 2k wc. Before the piece, there’s the prompt i used (eg pinterest, tumblr, random thought) & parameters I set for myself. Ofc trigger/content warnings. And then, the story proper!

The end aint the end. Prompt will be the same for mine and every writeback, but I’ll put new parameters for the ones who’ll write something as reaction to my 2k short. Maybe i’ll add a lil challenge of “insert a dad joke” or warnings “no incest” or just a note to have fun~

Exhibit B: how it goes

And then… it’s yalls turn! Just like everyone else, i’ll have 3 writeback chances. Here, maybe 5 peeps react with their stories, and i can—do whatever combo i want; i’d writeback to two separate stories… and then surprise, a writeback to my writeback is smtg reaaally fun, so i use my last chance on that!

3 weeks a is a long time and while u could go at it on guesswork, collab is great! Communication’s great. Sliding into dms to ask about idk, how the economy works in their fictional world. Aint just the stories reacting to ea other, but writers to the stories and writers to the writers

Exhibit C: how it ends

At the end, wow great, the last work i reacted to ended up with three more works, one branching out to two more. This is all messy. Cross platforms, posts lost to the social media void. Solution—i’ll do the heavy lifting and tie those writeback series up & neatly organised on the race’s site

Ofc, permission from all involved writers is important. Dont have to be all or nothing—say, with 5 stories and story #3 opted out of the collation; there’ll just be a link to yeet you over to the og post

Then i rest. We rest. Maybe we hang out on discord with new buds or maybe yall disappear till the next race starts up again

All of this is hypothetical. This challenge race idea’s mainly an excuse I can write and actually have ppl interact with it. But this is a plan very very very much focused on active collaboration—and even if i get to duplicate my ass, we aint getting along as well or as fun as with actual people and actual other writers and creatives

Idea Pitch: Splitting Sun's Fantasy World

The sun has a hole in it. From there, all shall face reckoning.

This world has had a growing problem for two generations now. The black spots that were always visible in the sun have been coalescing and minorly eclipsing it. However, that has not damaged its rays. It has made them harsher, stronger. Then they all jumped into one spot in the middle and like how the edges of a sun that is covered by the moon are actually some of the most dangerous for your eyes, this caused the rays to only become more extreme.

This shifted the balance of power in the world. A race of nomadic, peaceful and somewhat preyed upon people made of crystals suddenly found themselves making cities as they realized they could use their familiarity with light magics and crystal to create wards and containers for the harshness, helping shield other towns and people from this catastrophe. In two generations, they have gone from the oppressed to the strongest kingdom in the land. Their new prince must soon deal with that fact as letters and gifts from other kingdoms seek influence over the young kingdom and the wrong choice could easily lead to an invasion and crushing of his still peaceful people.

The forests could only be saved in small pockets though, forcing the once proud and territorial elves to go underground, using their nature magic to now force open caves, tunnels and more. Their desperation grew so wild as to make them start taking the elementals of the planet, that had always roamed wild and free, and trapping them. Torturing them. Enslaving them. The elements were always theirs to conquer after all, like they made the trees bow to their whims. They still do not have a voice and so there are no cries to go on deaf, long ears. From an opulent, traditional society, they have become more brutalist and fatalistically progressive, with many of the new generations believing that if they do not embrace technology, they will vanish altogether. The princess of the elves is known to be one of the few who use a technology called a Ripper, a specialized glove that allows one to reach into the very core of an elemental, destroying anything that was before to simply be an energy source for the machine that it will become.

The only race known to the others who was not either erased by this change or forced to radically change were the dragons. They already lived in grand, fortified towns that rose up like mountains and flaunted their wealth, giving them places to hide from the sun and valuables to trade for the crystals that would further protect them. They are also known for arrogance and hubris so their styles match their walls with fine drapery, gold and more. At least, for those who cannot match those who are the best of the kingdom. Dragons like the crown princess who tower over any man in her court and could fight an entire squad on her own wear barely nothing, deciding to show off their superiority in breeding rather than worry about hiding themselves. Unfortunately for her, she is not the heir to the throne, the blessing of white scales having seemingly skipped her, even if her blue scales still make her a noble fire dragon. Instead, her baby brother is the one to be next in line and many worry the severe, warrior-like nature of the princess may lead her to thoughts a noble dragon should never have, even if it fits how their decadence has only survived through pillaging and subjugation of others. That is a tradition too being tested though as the world has taken many of whom they would have once upon a time hurt for those goods and made their easiest target now an ally they must capitulate with.

It is a fracturing point for the world and a time where many are hoping in another decade or two, they may have the chance to take it all. To be the one kingdom in place. To bring together a split world. Whether that be by brokering a peace that will see them all happy, bending the entire planet to themselves because all will need to do so to survive, or simply by conquest now that the rules have been laid out, all are waiting with baited breath as peace settles.

It's simply a shame that much like the growing tumult of the elementals who grow fiercer by the day, who even seem to be coalescing more into more than simply free spirits, something else has already put into place a plan. A whole planet? No. That would be ambitious.

But they have already proven that they can take from the greatest source of light there is so if they could just find a way to open a crack, splitting the fractured lights of the crystalline people would be no trouble, wouldn't it? And then maybe they would have a place to truly call home besides the shadows.

This actually stems from a CRPG concept I once upon a time wanted to do. It will never be that, even if I still would love to learn a bit of game programming someday, but I have been humming it over as potentially an audience driven story. Each chapter people would get the chance to pick something to help drive where the plot may go. It wouldn't by any means be the first time I've done such a thing but it would potentially be the most ambitious due to scale and scope.

Which also probably means it will never see the light of day. It's been a real rough time for me lately and my brain is constricting on itself about how I haven't finished a project in over a year and a half now. I know that can just be how my brain is sometimes but it makes how ambitious my brain so often it is more painful than aspirational. *sigh* So with this rattling in my head again, I decided to share some. Location is a blend of a circus, moving carnival, fun-house school full of clowns training to kill other Halloween monsters. They have a variety of tools in order to help kill them:, outside pf the typical weapons you’d see, they’d have woopie cushions that alert anyone nearby, stink bombs and water spraying flowers that stun opponents, balloons that can create functionsl makeshift weapons and guard animals, sticky hands and those tied together blankets, allowing versatile movement, FUCKIN CLOWN CARS.

The circus school itself is full of defenses as well, funhouse mirrors and mirror mazes that identify vampires, bouquets that have wolfsbane, large open spaces with multiple floors accessible, leaving room for acrobatic manoeuvres against grounded and aerial enemies. Possibilities are quite literally endless because clowns are associated with so much things it’s insane.

And the monsters, who in the show will be absolutely visually horrifying compared to the clowns. Vampires that can suck you dry of all your blood, Werewolves that will tare you limb from limb, Witches that can burn you into a chicken in one second and cook you alive in the next. Ghosts that can invade the circus’s walls and aren’t affected by the same corporeal tools other monsters are. The corpses of your classmates reanimated from the dead that have the basic muscle memory to use the same tools above against you. Again, possibilities are endless.

The show has both action and horror elements that lend well to well written angst. It’s a school setting that forces character proximity, meaning interpersonal drama and more character interactions.

Phantom and his council were finally in the end processes to a peace treaty with Earth,

As years went on from what was once only the USA with their Ecto-Acts got worse. The GIW began opening in other countries without them truly realizing what they were allowing, until the Infinity Realms were at the point of declaring war on all of Earth itself.

The only reason that managed not to happen was because of Phantom finally being able to contact the Justice League and sit them down to have an actual conversation about everything that was going on.

That's where they were right now the world leaders, the 3 founders of the JL , and High King Phantom with his council arguing back and forth the peace treaty.

Phantom turned as one of the men stood up

" And just how are we supposed to truly trust you and yours to not take over or cause harm to our people?"

Others began chiming in, arguing that there was no true guarantee in what Phantom was saying.

Until a voice towards the back called out an idea

" Marriage! To truly unite our worlds in peace King Phantom must marry one of our own!"

Phantom subtly tensed the idea of a loveless marriage to a complete stranger made his core tremble with rage.

He glanced around seeing the looks of the people around him, he saw their greed for his power and status, their point for the marriage would be to control him or at least give them an advantage.

Phantom tuned out the arguing between the JL and the rest.

Thinking of what to say to get out of this situation without risking the treaty.

Snapping back to attention holding back a sharp smirk.

" Gentlemen if what you fear is the safety of your people then do not fret I have protected and saved your people and world since my creation, as for your request of a marriage to unify our world then I have wonderful news for I am already married to one of your people and even have children with him."

Phantom looked at the shocked faces around him, a couple grimacing or frowning at their missed opportunity to have control and access to him by one of their chosen.

A rather stupid man for what else could he be with what he said next.

" Then divorce him and marry someone that we find more suitable!"

Phantom's form distorted around him as he processed what he had just heard.

" Divorce? You wish for me to Divorce my husband, the one who I cherish above all else, the one I have shared my core the very being of myself with. The one who I gave my very being and soul to create our children. The one who is half my being, the one who if not for him we wouldn't be speaking at this moment because it was only his word that kept me from declaring war on your world."

"Make no mistake I do wish for peace between our worlds, many of my people are from this world and would like to continue to stay or visit especially for their loved ones, and I would like that for them without the danger of being hunted and torn apart."

"For if I wished war your planet would not stand a chance for what is a few million of your soldiers compared to my infinite soldiers that only would continue to grow as yours died."

"For him I fought and won against the previous tyrant King for daring to to cause him pain, the very King who only was defeated previously by the combined efforts of the strongest in the Infinite Realms, The very same King I defeated alone."

"So please do continue talking against my husband."

it's always crazy reading any description of how to get hired by the Big Two as a writer nowadays knowing that Jim Shooter was a whole 14 years old when he sent in a Legion of Superheroes pitch he wrote during recess and became the book's main writer
