I had no idea how well David could sing until I found this song on Apple Music, recorded for a charity event.

Honouring Lord Apollon by listening to David Tennant sing "Sunshine on Leith" is the best of both worlds to be honest

Public service announcement for fans of David Tennant's voice. If you're not already aware, he sang "Sunshine On Leith" for a charity album in 2019.
It's bittersweet and wonderful. Highly recommend.

The other song on the jukebox in the Resurrectionists pub
So, I've been listening to the songs playing in the background in the second season of Good Omens a totally normal amount of times, as one does.
The song Gabriel interrupts when he miracles Buddy Holly's Everyday to always play on the jukebox in Edinburgh, is Letter From America by Scottish duo The Proclaimers.
youtube
Letter From America is about the heartbreak of emigration, and the pain of separation from your loved ones runs through the whole song.
We should have held you, we should have told you
But you know our sense of timing we always wait too long
When you go will you send back a letter from America?
This bit in particular stuck with me. I think it's the way it echoes Crowley's sentiment that "it's always too late", on top of the heartbreak and loss of the final fifteen.
David Tennant and The Proclaimers
I'm not sure it's relevant, but. David Tennant is a huge Proclaimers fan. And I mean huge!
He wrote the sleevenote for their 25-year anniversary collection. He interviewed them for a BBC documentary about their career. And he's said, repeatedly, that The Proclaimers' music is the soundtrack of his life.
Tumblr media
This is from an interview with David Tennant, about his cover version of The Proclaimers’ Sunshine on Leith for BBC Children in Need in 2019.
My point is... My point is. Do I have a point? I must have, why would I post otherwise?
Is it merely coincidence that a song that seems to be picked as part of Crowley's S2 soundtrack is by the band David Tennant calls "the soundtrack of my life"? That's m'point.
Bonus: David Tennant singing Sunshine on Leith. It's quite lovely.

So we're all aware that like Abba got a musical, so did the Proclaimers, probably the Beatles, hell Green Day did, right? Well, my wondering is where is the 2 part musical in which we see the entire world of My Chemical Romance's stories, a grimdark world with a devastating war for Black Parade and then the scrambling through the Cyberpunk wasteland that followed in Danger Days? I mean you can do 2 shows but the idea of this flowing world would be neat to look at

Beautiful episode of Children in Need Got It Covered of the behind the scenes of the recording of the album that David Tennant, Jodie Whittaker, Olivia Colman etc sang on.
An absolutely beautiful moment where David gets emotional singing Sunshine on Leith and another sharing how he walked down the aisle to a Proclaimers song.
Link
Very big thank you to @belpheg0r-luna for the link!!

David Tennant’s Cover of Sunshine on Leith Is Actually Really Good
So I actually listened to bits and pieces from the entire Children In Need- We’ve Got It Covered album, and… David is kind of one of the only people on there who sounds like he knows what he’s doing? For one thing, he’s one of the ONLY people they don't autotune to high heaven, AND he doesn’t sound like he’s bored! Like the album is full of fantastic actors but most of them don't really know how to translate their acting abilities to singing. But David genuinely puts a lot of heart and emotion into his cover, and his voice has so much texture and character- he’s got a lovely vibrato and the perfect folksy, unpolished timbre for a song like this.
David’s a huge proclaimers fan, so clearly this is a song he loves. It’s actually a rather difficult song to make engaging, because it’s quite repetitive, but david does a great job giving each repeated phrase a slightly different flavor. He’ll do a soft, gentle “my tears are dryin,” then when he sings it again, his voice will tremble as he raises in volume- it’s a genuinely moving vocal.
This isn’t just me being a biased fangirl- I’m a musical theatre major, I know my shit! And I love this cover, I listen to it all the time! In terms of actors who aren’t trained vocalists, I’d give David around a 7.5- what he lacks in technical skill he’s more than capable of making up for in feeling with the right material. I honestly jsut really want to see David do a musical or a role involving music in some capacity, because his performances are so like music to me!

and i finally caught up with gary innes' your requests on bbc scotland, he mentioned the baftas, and then played the proclaimers sunshine on leith. he didn't say david's name, but he played his favorite band, and he played the song david covered for a charity drive a few years ago. which has been played on your requests.
So. BAFTAs day. Britain's biggest, most important, most esteemed awards. Right?
But the BAFTAs aren't trending on Tumblr. Weird, huh?
You know who is? David "The show isn't about me" Tennant.
You know who else? Michael "DT's husband" Sheen. Was he nominated? No. Did he present an award? No. Was he in a 5 min sketch at the beginning? Yes and he was glorious. Is he David's husband? Yes and they're very happy together.
AND THEY ARE UNSTOPPABLE.
Tumblr media
Before long, good omens will be trending too, just you wait.
Also, Bark Ruffalo has all my love.
