First impression: "is this guy any good?" b/c I pulled his gacha unit before I got to Frost and Flames. I tweeted this sentiment and got a "he sucked but kinda improved" from one friend and "PERCIVAL'S SHITTY BROTHER" from Lio which was confusing to say the least

I also did his first fate ep so I was like. okay so I'm getting the vibes he fucked up but is trying to be better. love that. I can feel fine putting him on my water team

okay but to be serious I think he is one of gbf's well-written characters in his progression, backstory, actions. I love that they have a very real portrayal of grief in him, the ways it eats at you when left unhealed, the affects the fear of everyone around you would have on the psyche and how he is still unlearning some of that. how atonement is a process that doesn't just end after one big gesture, how improvement both in statecraft and in personhood is sometimes difficult and imperfect. and in all that they also managed to make it so clear that he's a doting elder brother, and also ALSO that he's definitely got some parentification to him (I swear I'm not just projecting). even small details like how his pledges in light Percy fate are the elements that ultimately lead to Herzeloyde’s death, or even how his very very funny and cute gap moe about things says so much about how isolated he became growing up. they packed SO much into this fucking guy I go insane.

Favorite moment: VERY HARD OH MY GOD but man did he truly shine to In Each His Ideal. idc that we got cheaply thrown an excuse for Grand Percy in that one, that event belonged to Aglovale and Lamorak. and while there's SO much I could say in there alone, like the moment he willingly cuts through the visages of their parents because he accepts that death cannot just be undone, even though he almost unleashed hell to try it himself like a year prior,

it's actually after that, when he finds Lamorak.

I love the display of both sheer intelligence and the clear show of love and attention in how Aglovale put together, having never even seen Lusor before, that it was Lam. because he cares and he's always been looking after his little brothers and so he remembers. and when he corners wounded Lam as Lusor he's poised like he's ready for conflict, because he is. he is cold and commanding and ready and it all snaps in a SECOND the moment he realizes his brother is hurt.

it's the way he is at Lamorak's side in a second, all the indiscretions gone from his mind because it is happening again and it cannot, he's just found the last remaining member of his family again, so he cannot die here. and he won't! it's how for all his insistence on taking the harsh road, as always, the love shines through, because he's promising everything will be okay and they'll keep him safe in Wales and they can all be together again. it's all he fucking wants and I'm so emotional

Idea for a story: this is less an idea so much as a demand but cygames show us his typical bad disguise. yukata alt sorta showed us what his "undercover" times are like and they keep confirming the headcanons that I have in fact even put in one of my fics but I wanna know so bad he's such a DORK

Unpopular opinion: I don't think he's fucking Siegfried. No, I don't think he's fucking Tor, either. also idk if it's actually unpopular or not but Aglovale is a bisexual. I know my kind.

shuichi saw gin when he was visiting Japan in the 10 years ago flashback and was like ooh long hair is cool AND it'll piss ka-san off flash forward 5 years later when shuichi infiltrates the BO and is like fUck cool long hair dude is a psycho

shuichi cut his hair off when he heard akemi was killed by gin he kinda went into the whole mental breakdown mode and was like fuck this shit because he started growing his hair out cuz of gin and also akemi really liked his long hair

shuichi used to be a band kid when he lived in England and wanted to pursue a career in music (much to the chagrin of Mary) but after tsutomu disappeared he was like fuck that and stopped playing until he entered the BO

shuichi has a really bad memory about things that dont have to do anything with his job kinda like BBC's Sherlock but not as bad

shuichi used to find dead bodies when he was a kid just like shinichi but it wasn't as often maybe like a dead body once a year or something

shuichi named himself dai because that's what Mary actually wanted to name him when she was giving birth she was screaming die die die and tsutomu wasn't there yet so she was like aight die sounds like the japanese name dai the only reason shuichi wasn't named that was that tsutomu burst in and was like FUCK NO

shuichi hates being compared to his mother but the truth is they're the most similar and they both started mimicking tsutomu after his disappearance

the only thing shuichi knew how to cook before meeting yukiko was plain white rice as that was the only thing tsutomu was able to teach him

shuichi mimics an American accent while talking in America or talking in English unless he's talking to his family or he's mentally shook up and his British accent slips out

he thinks in British accented English as well (idc if the animanga shows him thinking in japanese it makes no sense that western raised people like Jodie and camel think in japanese) but he does use some japanese like ka-san and when he's trying to get deep into his okiya persona

he tries very hard to keep the polite speech patterns of okiya Subaru since as akai shuichi he's very .. rude

shuichi's sniper skills were so good the fbi was willing to overlook his disrespect of authority and his tendency to do everything by himself without consulting everyone

shuichi slips into a British accent around James if he's feeling really comfortable

he felt bad about using shiho since she was only a year older than masumi and she hadn't done anything wrong so he vowed to get her and akemi out of the BO

he had a plan to get akemi and shiho out by convincing the higher ups to grant them immunity if they testified but akemi's death derailed the entire thing

he hates to admit it but his family is the most important thing to him he may not contact them that often but he's going to such lengths to bring his father back because he cares for his family so much

shuichi didnt really know what he wanted to do with his life once he took down his father's pursuers but after akemi and scotch he decided that if he solved his father's disappearance first he'd hunt down the BO next tho once learning that Haneda Koji’s death had something to do with the BO he's back at the thing where he doesn't know what to do with his life without revenge

he promised shukichi that he'd be the one to solve shukichi's death if what happened to Haneda kohji also happens to shukichi

he isn't a fan of dates in amusement parks but if it makes his partner happy and smile he'll have fun

dating Jodie was a quiet thing most likely from an attachment maybe due to a bad case or a loss of a mutual friend depending on the agency they might have been legally allowed to date each other but it is usually looked down upon I dont think they went out together often probably spending time together at home ... doing stuff

he identifies as bisexual it was normal to him in childhood since both Mary and tsutomu talked about their past relationships to their children he never told anyone due to the fact it would affect his FBI status since it was illegal in America shukichi and Mary know he's bi but shuichi has no idea Mary knows

shuichi learned jee kun do by watching training videos from vhs tapes/cds/YouTube depending on when you consider detco taking place I personally believe conan shrinks in 2018 meaning that tsutomu disappeared in 2001 and shuichi used a mixture of tapes and cds to learn

shuichi can read people really well but has a hard time manipulating people by being nice he can use people by being a jackass very well but trying to be a normal person is hard for him

Yukiko and yusaku remind shuichi of his parents before tsutomu disappeared but like more upbeat

akemi and shiho were both anime and romance drama fans so he knows random things about the shows and uses that info to connect with the DB and especially haibara

as okiya it makes him go wild because he desperately needs to smoke to cope but okiya cant smoke it doesnt fit his image so he smokes a shit ton at night during his nightly drives

shuichi forced himself not to smoke during his time visiting Japan when he met masumi because he knew Mary would get even more upset with him

shuichi was terrible driving American styled cars and he got so upset that he perfected his drive-in techiuque over the years just to spite the instructor that said he was barely passing

he likes to go on late night drives and speed on the high way because he's a thrill seeking idiot

he has no social media but he created on as okiya Subaru to keep an eye on haibara's higo stan account

Fourth (and Final) Impressions of Deltarune Chapter 2

Edit: forgot to put a readmore. Forgive me! Spoilers under the cut!

- So I wasn’t even in the palace very long before we got to a series of puzzles that Berdly couldn’t solve, much to his frustration. I figured Berdly was building up to something, either a boss fight or a growth moment, and it was the second one. Turns out when you thrive off of praise, you develop a bit of a dependency... good on him to be self-aware.

- In the flashback sequence with the spelling bee, I noticed the word Noelle got nervous and stuck on - “December”. See, I remember another sequence in the city where we had a character moment with Noelle while pressing a series of switches that spelled out “December.” Clearly the word is significant to her in some way, and probably a negative way considering how it made her freeze up. Either something big happened in December, or something big happened involving a person close to her named December, since I remember her mentioning a “Dess”. I’m looking forward to where this goes.

- The theme in the Queen’s palace slaps, just gotta say that before we go further.

- So backtracking a bit, Lancer has been stone-ified, and Ralsei knows exactly what’s up: the dark fountains create worlds, the dark fountains that was sustaining Lancer’s world is gone, and that’s why Lancer is stone now. He’ll be fine, though, if we can get him back to Ralsei’s castle town and the fountain there. Good of him to offer a solution, except...

- ... hold the fuck up, Ralsei. So you’re telling me that this happened to Lancer because of the loss of his dark fountain - which Ralsei encouraged us to go through - and because of that, the Dark World that Lancer comes from is no more? And what’s more, Lancer now depends on the Castle Town fountain - that is, Ralsei’s fountain - to live. He is now life-bound to your town, Ralsei. He literally cannot leave you and still live, and even if he could, the world he knew is gone. Oh, but it’s ok, because you conveniently have a place for him to live under your roof now. 

- And, hold on, who was it who told us we had to go through the Dark Fountain to get home?? I played through the first chapter just recently, that was you, Ralsei. I definitely remember Ralsei saying we had to do that, he gave us that quest in the first place, and I definitely do not remember him mentioning at any point that this would end with Lancer’s world being destroyed. This is absolutely not fine, Ralsei. Oh, and considering how conveniently us getting isekai’d in the library lines up with Ralsei suddenly insisting we had to go and do homework... Ralsei, are you the one isekai-ing us???

- *deep breath* Okay. I’m calling it now. There’s something Ralsei isn’t telling us. I joked earlier about how he wants to bake us into cakes and eat us, but to be clear, I think whatever’s going on here is more complicated than “Ralsei was the bad guy all along”. I get the feeling that Ralsei’s desire for friendship, especially towards Kris, is very genuine. It’s just... this whole situation is reminding me of Asriel’s deal in Undertale. Fitting considering the whole anagram situation... I wonder how Deltarune!Asriel is going to play into this.

- Okay, back to more current stuff in the game. I met up with Roulsx Kaard (idc how to spell it) again and he’s facing me in... the thrashing machine I made in the first chapter. I’m serious. Same color and everything, holy shit.

- And again, we return from a Susie Sequence to Ralsei apparently explaining something to Kris and finishing with a variation of “so that’s why-” before getting cut off by Susie. What are you explaining, Ralsei.

- Checked a calendar in Noelle’s palace room. “Every page is the last month, every day is the 25th”... what??

- another banger of a final battle!! let’s do this!!!

- See, I had a feeling that the Queen didn’t actually want to hurt anybody, but she has a... funny... idea of what constitutes helping. It clicks with her being basically a personified search engine - she literally wants nothing more than to give people what they want and make them happy, but she’s not always great at figuring that out based on what they search. She mentions Noelle’s “sad and lonely searches”... Noelle, honey, are you ok?

- Excuse me, Queen, this Dark World was created *today*? ... And it was created by the Knight... and I already suspect that Ralsei is “isekai-ing” us... Ralsei, are you the knight?

- New important info: “Lightners” are apparently necessary to create Dark Fountains due to their determination, and unlike Undertale, determination isn’t exclusive to humans

- BERDLY!!! BERDLY IS PUTTING THAT REDEMPTION ARC TO GOOD USE!!!

- ...

... this game just became perfect

- Oh hey, White Diamond, what’s up?

- “Oh Damn I Did Not Know That” WELL NOW YOU TELL US, RALSEI!

- Susie doesn’t have a tail? Make up your mind, game!!!

- Phew. Okay. Okay. The actual game part is over. Time to process some thoughts...

- So we’ve seen two Dark Worlds so far, Lancer’s world based on games (cards, checkers, etc) and the Queen’s world based on computers and the internet. The running theme I notice so far is escapism. During her fight, the Queen monologued about a desire to fulfill the desires of people who turn to the internet to dull their pain or look for new distractions. And as for Lancer’s world... well, it’s implied to literally be made of abandoned toys. Both of them things people turn to when they need a little entertainment or escapism to avoid their real-life problems for a bit. And I think it’s been mentioned that Darkners are essentially made to serve Lightners; perhaps helping them cope with the difficulties of life? 

Even putting aside the symbolism here, Susie and Kris literally escaped to this world to blow off their classwork, and Susie in particular seems to think the Dark World is better than anything in the Light World. In the final battle, Susie, Noelle, AND Berdly were all just about to open up a Dark Fountain themselves and make themselves better lives in the Dark World and only stopped when Ralsei very firmly informed them about the Roaring. Is this going to come up again? Are these kids going to struggle with the temptation to abandon their real lives to go play eternally in the Dark World?

And isn’t that just a perfect microcosm of the relationship that people have with video games in general - including this one? The perfect opportunity to just forget about your own life for a bit and temporarily live in a different world altogether, one with battles and magic and adventure?

Just what the fuck is going on here, Ralsei? Was I too quick to accuse him of being a secret villain earlier? Is Ralsei just trying to get us to process our shit in the Dark World, and then destroy it so we move on to the Light World with renewed hope in life? .. or is he just trying to make himself the center of our fantasies?

- HOLY SHIT THE QUEEN IS HERE! THE QUEEN IS HERE AND SHE’S GONNA BE A MOM FOR LANCER!!! (or “girldad” as Lancer puts it)

- ...have the Queen and King met? I mean, it would make sense, but they haven’t been mentioned as having a relationship of any kind or even knowing each other. Is this another Toriel/Asgore kind of situation?

- HOLY SHIT I KNEW IT SHE IS HIS MOM

- So I’m just talking to NPCs around Castle Town, right, and I meet up with Seam again. He just told me to be careful not to stay in there too late and that I don’t want to get caught when the sun goes down... DAFUQ YOU MEAN, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN???

- This is wonderful, I’m now witnessing Toriel and Sans having a joke-off in person.

- (Sees Kris going in to wash their hands) (Hears Toriel say “they do that sometimes”) ...so Kris has like... a condition? The heart-ripping thing has happened before?

- after burying everyone, you guys decided to make your way to the wisteria house to get some rest and heal up

- “no way am i going to lose. i’m hashibira inosuke of the demon slaying corps!”

- you let inosuke take the lead as you knew that he was filled with new determination to kill this demon and get you two to safety

- but when the demon got its hands on inosuke you were suddenly filled with an immeasurable amount of rage

- you lunged at the demon and stabbed your blades into both of its shoulders

- it let out a piercing scream as you dig your blades even further into its flesh

- but suddenly a flash and inosuke was on the floor with the demons arms

- you turned your head and saw the water pillar, tomioka giyuu

- “gIyUU-SAN thank god!! could you please finish him off? i need to fix inosuke up” and he just nods at you and gets crack-a-lackin

- he defeats spider daddy in a span of 2 seconds while you and inosuke are mesmerized by his skill and technique

- as he makes his way deeper in the woods he is stopped by inosuke calling out to him

- and at that point you were too tired and exhausted to listen to inosuke or to baby sit him

- so you knock him out and smile sheepishly at giyuu

- after giyuu left, all the exhaustion seeps into your bones causing you to pass out right on top of inosuke, making you unconsciously snuggle into his chest

Hakuoki Hana no Shou Hijikata After Story Translation Attempt

My attempt at translating the “ Hakuoki Shinkai Hana no shou Stellaworth Early Reservation Bonus’ HIjikata Toshizou short story [ 「薄桜鬼 真改 華ノ章」ステラワース早期予約特典　ブロマイド 土方歲三] from Chinese to English with lots of editing and mtl help...

The Shinsengumi oni-tan drama is going to take a while to translate since i’m worrying more about accuracy since the recent translations i added to my list were only available as jpgs... and none of the text extractors i’ve used have been able to extract an error-less version of all the words... also doesn’t help that the text is really small on these images so on some of the more complicated characters just can’t be replaced by me rewriting the word on google by hand... *sigh*. 

On a side note, please check out my updated tumblr page since I put together a list of some of the Hakuoki dramas that I’m looking for as I translations for them (”Stuff I’m looking for” creative title, i know.). That list will probably won’t be updated anytime soon since anything I don’t have the audio for (in relation to the dramas anyway) has a very low priority for me to work on.

Hakuoki Shinkai Hanashou Stellaworth Early Reservation Bonus Hijikata Toshizou After Story

A few months after the Republic of Ezo's surrender to the new Meiji government-

The man known as the demon vice-commander, former Shinsengumi vice-commander Hijikata Toshizou has been living in a secluded house in the mountains.

Hearing of the Meji era's turbulence, but here, such tension cannot be felt/ (Despite) hearing of the Meiji era's turbulence, such change cannot be felt here.

“Hijikata-san.... No, Toshizou-san, it's time to get up. It's almost noon.”

He heard someone calling him from beside the bed.

Her name was Yukimura Chizuru. Due to unfortunate circumstances, she lived with the Shinsengumi and had continued to follow Hijikata to Ezo, eventually becoming his partner [the translation doesn't use the word 'wife' here].

"Really, quiet down [Hijikata probably says 'shut up’ here]. It's just oversleeping a bit. It's not like (I) have anything to do anyway/there's anything to do anyway.

Hijikata did not rise from bed and bluntly spoke.

"Although that's true..." 　 Chizuru softly muttered, then quietly whispered.

"........Hijikata-san has changed."

"Really?"

Hijikata gently rolled over to her side. He glanced at Chizuru who was now looking at him with a bewildered expression.

He looked up at the ceiling, muttering to himself.

"When I was vice-commander, the schedule was full everyday, and it was impossible to sleep for a long time/sleep in."

"Because the Hijikata-san then would blame/get upset at those who overslept."

Recalling their time in Kyoto, Chizuru laughed.

"That so..."

Although it hasn’t even been a year since the end of the war, it felt like more than a decade ago.

He believed that he had done his duty as the Shinsengumi's vice-commander together/along with Kondou-san, fighting as (true) warriors until the end. (Though) Nowadays, it was not good to reminisce about the secular world.

(I don't know/wonder how the surviving members are doing now...)

He heard that Shimada, Souma, as well as Saito, survived. According to rumours Souma had surrendered to the new government as the chief/representative of the Shinsengumi.... that is to say that the Shinsengumi surrendered.

Because of the new government's surveillance, we were unable to get in touch with them and could only hope that the name “Shinsengumi" would not become a hindrance/burden to the surviving members.

(I once thought that as long as I could die in battle, I would die without regrets...)

As Hijikata thought of this, he turned his gaze to Chizuru who was at his bedside.

At least now he can still live like this, just because of her(/At least now he has a reason to live because of her).

"Toshizou-san...?"

Noticing that his expression seemed a bit lost , she worriedly called Hijikata's name.

Wanting to dispel the embarrassment he felt, he reached to put/pull Chizuru in his arms.

"Eh...!?"

With a yell/yelp, she fell to the bed.

"Tha-that, Toshizou-san!"

Because of his abrupt behaviour, she couldn't help but yell/scream/raise her voice. Although they have been living under the same roof for a few months, it seemed like she was still not used to this.

In order to hold on to Chizuru who was trying to get up/away/escape, he tightened his grasp.

"What's wrong? Is it strange for a husband to treat his wife like this?"

Hijikata secretly smiled to himself at her reaction, asking her slyly.

"(It's) not strange... but, the food is going to get cold."

"Isn't it better to heat it up later? Compared to this..."

Having spoken, Hijikata made such a suggestion as he peered into Chizuru's eyes.

In his eyes/opinion, Chizuru seemed to be embarrassed as she lowered her eyes/gaze, though he did not see any signs of rejection.

Hijikata narrowed his eyes, seemingly urging her for a kiss.

Chizuru's ears were red as she whispered shyly.

"That... Toshizou-san, it's still day time?"

"What about that? There's no one watching."

"Isn't not that there is no one watching...."

Chizuru fell silent after she spoke/after Chizuru finished, they fell into silence, Hijikata held her before him, and kissed her lips in a predatory manner. 

He then used the strength of his arms, tightening his grasp on her, to ensure that she could not escape as he deepened their kiss.

She seemed a bit bewildered at first, but then Chizuru also began responding to his kisses. Hijikata felt that she was very cute. 　 When their lips finally separated, Chizuru seemed unable to move and leaned on Hijikata.

“Really, you'd (think that you would) be used to this by now?”

His teasing words made Chizuru speak up/respond with indignation.

"That's because Toshizou-san always moves so abruptly. It wasn't like that before..."

"This is the real me. There's no burden (for me) to bear, no need to wear the mask of a demon anymore."

No matter what happens, she will not leave Hijikata - this strength and determination of hers is something that she has shown him countless times.

After, Chizuru buried her face into Hijikata's chest and spoke/replied.

....Regardless of how Toshizou-san looks/appears/is, I love it/you.

Such words/this sentence was/is the sweetest honey in the world, so Hijikata thought.

I’ve been able to translate a tad faster since I recognize more words now (though it’s a bit harder for me since i grew up learning traditional characters and the simplified ones make my head hurt at times... so i’ll be dragging my feet on some things)... but without the audio (in any Chinese dialect) my speaking ability isn’t really going to improve... *facepalm* 

i also just noticed that i made errors in the two toshizous drama subs... im going to blame the hai toshizo vid for those errors in spelling..... ah ha ha.... oh well. It was the first trial that something seems slightly off, two extra stands. Something even more unnerving was the fact that there was a portrait on it, identity unknown.

Shuichi was lucky enough to be seated right next to the portrait, deciding to look at it a little more, he found there was a smug smile on it, along with it having a cracked and seeming painted on bleeding effect. A second and third one too, Rantaro Amami and two unknown people, One seemingly waving slightly, cracked and bleeding still, another with a line across their neck and a fan symbol, and Amami, with a X across his face.

The second incident occured when Shuichi found a note asking him to meet them in the library next to a bookshelf, a map attached to it.

"Don't make the same mistake I did."

He whipped his head around, that voice.. strange. He must be hearing things. Deciding to go to the bathroom to splash water on his face, he did so and when he looked up, there was another face behind him in the mirror.

"W-What the-?!" He turned around then back to the mirror.

"Oh finally! I've been waiting for you to notice me!"

"Who.. Who are you..?"

"I'm that portrait you saw. Cracked. Bleeding. My execution hurt.."

"Y-Your what-?!"

"Shut up dude shut up! People are gonna think your crazy!"

He chose to look at them some more.

The video shows a boy about to be executed or something similar, kicking his legs while sitting on a table, before looking up and smiling before being crushed, or something it seems.

It cuts to a video recording.

"Hiya! Its me again, Aoi Kagehara! Ultimate Theorist and Strategist! You can't get rid of me! I just got crushed after all! Now I'll let you in on a secret, I'm even better in person behind the scenes, I control everything aside from somebodys actions. I am The Ultimate Mastermind. Aoi Kagehara."

It cuts again to another recording.

"Oh my god, Aishi-san, you'll be okay! Just stick with the plan! You not the Ultimate Serial Killer for nothing!"

"This is extremely risky. I would prefer it if-"

A knife is drawn, the sharp sound ringing through thw air.

"Who has your family Ayano. Who controls everything? Me."

"Kagehara-kun, you wouldn't."

"I would, just stick to exactly what I said to do."

"Well give me another run-over so I can do it exactly."

"You'll dress up as Momikano-kun and go into the gym, from there you'll take that big weight thing like 50 pounds, and drop it before running away with it to the rooftop. You'll then hide it behind the air vents and run. Make sure to blame it on him. You'll then put the note in Ponzu Komeda's locker, telling him to meet you in the Plaza. You'll drop the weight on him and crush him. Make up an alibi or something."

"..As you wish."

It then cuts to the execution again, this time showing him reaching up to the sky before getting disnembered and crushed.

It ends with a close up to his face, That iconic smug smile before he opens his eyes and his face briefly goes white, his eyes widen and tear up before he almost immediately dies.

2018 was a year of ups and downs for me. In January I went back to college at Benedictine College to work towards my bachelors in sociology. I was working full-time at night and attending school full-time during the day. Exhausted doesn’t begin to describe it.

As busy as it was, I felt such a great sense of accomplishment everyday as I worked towards such a difficult goal. I enjoyed the classes I was taking and  the challenge excited me. Then everything changed. Cancer took that all from me. The excitement, the motivation, the incredible sense of accomplishment. With three words, that all was gone.

When I was no longer able to work or go to school, I lost my sense of purpose. I laid in bed for days and weeks feeling in credibly sorry for myself. I began to give up on myself, and to give up in life in general. During this time I was talking to a friend of mine about my younger sister who had recently moved to Arizona. I was talking about how proud I was of her for moving so far away to chase a dream. It was while we were talking that my friend suggested that maybe I should take a trip to visit her. My initial response was are you kidding? I can’t even get out of bed, let alone make a trip halfway across the country. But my friend told me that it would be good for me, to get away and see something new.

Suddenly I had a goal to work towards. I began pushing myself to get out of bed, even if just to walk around the house and get my own meals. In the beginning it was incredibly hard. I was extremely weak and couldn’t walk without a walker. But I kept pushing. Soon I graduated to using a cane, and finally I was able to walk short distances unassisted. I was so proud of myself. It’s amazing how much you take for granted in life until it’s gone.

In late November I had a hysterectomy to stop my body from producing the hormones that were feeding the tumor in my breast. While this surgery was incredibly necessary, I was a little sad because I figured my recovery would set my trip plans behind but I had a goal. I decided I wasn’t going to let something as minor as surgery stop me.

I pushed myself more and more each day. I became more active. I started driving again. Surprisingly enough, the more active I became, the pain that had become a part of my life began to fade. During my worst days I had been taking as many as 24 Percocets a day without relief. Suddenly I realized I was down to as few as four during a 24 hour period. Slowly I was taking back control of my life. Cancer wasn’t winning the war anymore. I was. The sense of pride I felt couldn’t compare to anything I had ever done before. I felt as though I had just won the Boston Marathon.

I had an appointment with my oncologist scheduled for December 10th. My goal had been to leave for Arizona the Wednesday following if my doctor felt I was healthy enough to go. He was so pleased to see the progress I had made since my first appointment when my pain was so bad that reduced to using a wheelchair because I was unable to walk. Now I was walking again and had actually driven myself so my husband didn’t need to miss a day of work. Much to my delight, my doctor told me he thought the trip would be great medicine for me.

Having received my oncologist’s blessing, I began to make the final arrangements to take the bucket list trip of a lifetime. I had considered flying into Phoenix to shorten my trip, but after much deliberation I decided that driving would offer me the opportunity to see more of the world and with no real time table in my head I planned to take my time and see what there was to see.

As I left Atchison on December 12 I began to have second thoughts. Would I be able to make such a long drive after being bedridden for so long and having only been getting up and around for such a short time? Would my back hold up to the strain of the trip? I was facing a 21 hour drive, the longest drive I had ever made in myself. I almost changed my mind many times as I set out for Arizona, but I kept telling myself I can do this.

The further along on my trip, the better I felt. For the first time in months, the weight of my stress and anxiety began to evaporate. With each mile I drove, a happiness and calm settled over me. Normally when I am driving I become so focused on the road that I miss everything around me. For the first time, I opened my eyes to everything around me taking in each little detail seeing the world with a childlike wonder.

I had my first daughter two days before 19th birthday. I had spent my entire adult life caring for my children and had never really had the opportunity to travel. While my peers were traveling to Europe and going to college, I was changing diapers and burping babies. I had never really made it outside of the midwest and this was one of the few times I had ever taken a vacation that didn’t involve a soccer tournament. Normally those trips were rushed and there was very little time to relax and enjoy the sights around me.

The further I got from home, the more I saw all of the beauty in the world. As the miles passed, I began to believe in myself and for the first time I believed that cancer wasn’t going to beat me. I was going to fight with everything I had in me and I was going to live whatever life I had left no matter how long or short as though each day was my last. I decided that I refused to die with regrets.

When I reached the mountains of Arizona and my sister’s home, I was overwhelmed with everything I had seen. I was excited to see my sister, her husband, my adorable niece and my favorite floofer (code word for dog). I spent four days relaxing in the warm Arizona air, far from the cold of Kansas. The days with my sister were lazy and simple and incredibly calming. My mind was clear and free of worry over my future. I took each day as they came without thinking about whether cancer would beat me.

As my days with my sister came to a close I made the decision to head further west since I was only four hours from the sandy beaches of San Diego. I was amazed as each mile passed and I drove through the mountains and palm trees. I was amazed by the mild weather and when I reached San Diego  I fell in love with the sights all around me. I walked through the beautiful winter wonderland of Balboa Park at night, and dipped my toes in the ocean during the day. I enjoyed the tastes of authentic Mexican and Italian food, and let my mind clear from any of the negative thoughts that had held me hostage since my diagnosis.

As I returned home I had a new goal. My journey had given me a new purpose. My passion for nursing was still there and I realized just how much I missed taking care of and spending time with my patients. But I also realized that my time might be short and I wanted to experience as much as I could for whatever time I might have left. The more I thought about this, the more my mind wandered back to an idea I had a few years earlier. I wanted to move on from my staff hospital position and become a travel nurse. I realized that travel nursing would offer me the opportunity to combine my love of nursing with the ability to travel and see all that the country has to offer.

I celebrated New Years Eve by mailing my applications to Arizona and California to obtain my nursing licenses. In the weeks following I began discussing opportunities with recruiters, and began the initial process to build my file for submission to future employers.

As excited as I was, a cloud of fear hovered over me. Would my body be strong enough to return to work? When I had my appointment with my oncologist on January 10th, as terrified as I was to hear the answer I asked my doctor if my career was over. He looked at me and told me he didn’t see why. In one moment all my fears evaporated. I will be able to return to the work I love so much. Cancer didn’t take nursing from me.

2018 brought a lot of pain and fear as I was forced to accept my new reality. 2019 is going to be a year of adventure and discovery for me. Some days I am angry for all of the changes that have come to my life since I heard those terrible words ‘you have cancer.’ There are still days that I want to cry when I think about possibly not being here to watch my nieces and grandchildren grow up.

Even with all of the sadness and uncertainty cancer has brought to my life, some days I am thankful for the things I have gained. I have realized how very precious life is and how important it is to appreciate the gift of each day. I live more fully, I love more deeply, and I appreciate each moment I have. I’m living with cancer, not dying from it. I’m LIVING. Each minute of every day.

San Diego Here I Come! Chapter 3

A/N: Thank you guys for enjoying this series it means so much to me! Along with Chapter 3 I will be attempting to write the teaser for my series “Zero” which will be about my Spider-Man Homecoming OC so I hope you guys will enjoy that. BE PREPARED FOR A DRUNK READER TODAY! Just a heads up: The reader is 21. I was not planning on making the reader 20 or younger since I am 21 and I can legally drink I was already planning on making the reader 21 since I don’t want illegal drinking in this chapter.

Summary: Cosplaying was a dream come true for you and you had made your way to Instagram famous in a span of 3 months. You were so well known that even celebrities followed you and among one was your celebrity crush, Tom Holland. Preparing for San Diego Comic Con you get asked to be on the Avengers Cast Panel meaning you’ll get to meet Tom. Will sparks fly between a famous cosplayer and a famous actor? Will they realize that they are meant for each other?

You decided that instead of taking the stairs downstairs to the lobby that you’d take the elevator. Thankfully it was pretty late so the elevator was completely empty, as you pressed the button for the lobby the elevator doors closed and you started to panic a bit. You were going to be hanging out with Tom and Harrison and the fact that you were going to be drinking with your crush was making you extremely nervous. Seeing the numbers decrease on the elevator as they were reaching the number for the lobby, you took a deep breath in and out of your nose then mouth in order to calm yourself down when the doors opened and you walked right into the lobby. The lobby was adorned with beautiful flowers, amazing and expensive looking furniture, and even some little shops here and there to make it feel calming. 

You looked around the lobby to try and at least spot Tom when you saw him and who you could only assume was Harrison sitting on one of the big couches in the lobby. You smirked to yourself as you took out your phone and texted him.

Y/N: yo I see you ;) turn your ass around boy!

As soon as you sent the text he looked at his phone and turned around to see you walking to him. His eyes looked you up and down like you were the most gorgeous thing he has ever seen on this planet. The way your hoodie stopped right at your thighs, the way your leggings made your legs and thighs look like a fucking snack, and the chocker.. god the chocker made him almost lose his shit on the spot. He got up and Harrison followed behind his mate as they both made their way towards you. “H-Hello, darling. You look.. wow.” His words caused a slight blush to appear on your cheek as you smiled up at him. “T-Thank you. Oh I’m so sorry! You must be Harrison. It’s nice to finally meet you! My name is Y/N.” You extended your hand out to the tall dark haired boy as he shook your hand gently. “Harrison Osterfield. It’s finally nice to meet you. Tom talks about you non-stop so it’s finally nice to see you instead of on a phone screen.” You and Harrison both laughed as Tom punched Harrison’s arm causing you to laugh more. “Shut the fuck up, Haz. Anyways... you ready to go? There’s an amazing club near here and we can all go to the VIP lounge.”

You smiled at both of them and nodded as the three of you headed out the front door of the hotel. You looked around to see if there was going to be a car until you saw a Hummer limo pull up and your jaw dropped wide open. “I-Is that limo for us..?” You looked at the limo, then Tom, then the limo again as he smiled and walked next to you. “Yeah it is. Neither of us felt like driving so we rented a limo for the night.” Gently lacing your arm around his you smiled as the three of you entered the limo and headed to the club. There were wine glasses and expensive wine bottles in the limo and colorful lights on the ceiling. You figured it’d take you guys a bit to get there considering it is a weekend and you guys would probably hit traffic even if the club was close you’d rather be in a limo then walk. Taking three wine glasses for yourself, Tom, and Harrison you poured some red wine into the glasses as you all clinked your glasses together and loudly said, “Cheers!” as you all downed the wine really fast. You knew for a fact you were going to drink so you decided to start in the limo so that the alcohol would help you relax around the boys, especially Tom.

As soon as the limo pulled up to the club you could hear the bass of the music through the walls of the club. The name that was adorned in neon lights across the entrance of the club was called “The Onyx Room Nightclub.” This place looked fancy as hell but also extremely beautiful at night with all the lights on. Stepping out of the limo with your purse swung over your right shoulder you felt a hand lightly wrap around yours, the hand was big for sure but it was really warm. When your turned around you noticed Tom holding your hand as he lead you into the club making sure you guys wouldn’t get separated. As you entered the club you started to feel a lot of eyes on you, mainly men. They looked at you like you were some kind of a snack, a dessert, or simply just an object which caused your anxiety to start to rise. You didn’t like going out by yourself since you constantly got stared at by men and whistled at and it made you feel extremely uncomfortable and not safe at all. But with Tom and Harrison with you you felt better. As Tom noticed that you were getting stared at by creepy men he quickly pulled you close to him as he wrapped his arm around your waist making sure that you felt safe and secure, with Harrison walking on the other side of you so they’d stop staring and this made you feel like you were being protected by two knights in shining armor and made your heart race so much with happiness.

Walking away from the downstairs part of the club you were let into the VIP section which was accompanied by a small flight of stairs. The music from downstairs became muffled as Tom opened the door to the VIP section and your eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. The VIP section made downstairs look like a dumpster fire. The bar was extremely fancy, couches and gorgeous table were cascaded across the floor, the DJ booth was all the way in the back but it was decorated with colorful lights and speakers. You quickly let go of Tom’s hand as you quickly made your way to the bar and ordered yourself a glass of really expensive and delicious looking whine. Tom and Harrison laughed at how excited you got to be in the VIP lounge, they both walked over to one of the long couches as the music blasted with the song Die For You by The Weeknd playing over the speakers. You sat at the bar by yourself as you took in the sights of the place as you slowly took sips of your wine and it tasted divine. It was like the gods had made a drink that felt like your tongue was dancing in heaven from the amazing taste. You weren’t really that much of a drinker and you never really drank wine so you were quickly getting buzzed which caused your entire body to feel warm and fuzzy and your head started to feel fuzzy too but a good kind of fuzzy. 

“She is a catch mate. When the hell you gunna ask her out?” Harrison brushed his fingers through his hair as he looked at his best mate who was looking over the back of the couch staring at your back.

“Probably not for a bit. I don’t know how long she is here for and I’d like to get to know her a bit before I completely open up to her, ya know what I mean?” Tom took a small sip of a drink one of the bar girls brought him and Harrison as he swirled it around staring at the liquid in the glass. He did like you - you knew that already, but you and Tom didn’t know each other that well and before he wanted to ask you out he wanted to take you on a proper date before you left and get to know you a lot better like all your likes and dislikes, family, small things like that.

A Demi Lovato song came on and since you were buzzed enough to not care about dancing in front of people you got up and started to dance a bit. You swayed your hips back and forth a bit as you REALLY got into the song. The song Sexy Dirty Love was one of those songs that unleashed your inner stripper, or inner slut whichever. Thankfully the VIP section wasn’t that full, it was literally you, Tom, Harrison, the bar tender, the DJ, the bar girls, and a couple other people. Tom and Harrison laughed a bit at you as you danced till your heart contents, you could feel Tom’s gaze on you which caused you to smirk, you motioned him over with your pointer finger which caused him to smirk back at you as well. He put his drink down on the table as he made his way to you.

“Buzzed a bit are we?”

“Haha! Hell yeah! I don’t get to drink that much and I wanna have fun. Dance with me, Tommy.” You said his name in an almost seductive way which made him lick his lips as he wrapped his arms around your waist while you wrapped your arms around his neck. The gap between your bodies were non-existent as you were literally grinding your hips against his to the song. The alcohol made you extremely confident but also a little bit horny but that was always normal for you but when you were around Tom you felt like your senses were - as they said in Infinity War- dialed up to eleven. As the song continued Tom was now behind you and you were grinding your ass into him and you could feel his excitement through his tight black pants which caused a smirk out of you. As the song was beginning to end his chin rested on your shoulder and you could feel his warm breath against your ear and neck and it caused a small whimper to escape your lips. He was extremely close to your neck but you didn’t want anything sexual to happen yet but you did want to at least tease the boy so you slowly moved away from him as you looked back at him and licked your lips as you could clearly see his boner through his pants.

“Why don’t you go cool off. I’m gunna get myself another drink.” You walked away as you swung your hips from side to side trying to get him even more sexually frustrated as you ordered another drink and this time it was a frozen fruity drink which you loved. Tom let out a small groan as he walked back over to Harrison trying to cover his boner as best as he could as he took a sip of his drink. Harrison laughed at him as he also took a sip of his own drink as he looked at Tom. “She got you frustrated didn’t she, mate?” Harrison smirked at his best mate as he could tell that Tom was extremely frustrated. “Shut up mate.”

Half way through the night you had probably downed a bunch of fruity drinks and at this point you were completely smashed, not so smashed that you could barely walk but you were a bit wobbly. Thankfully for you there was actually a weed bar in the VIP lounge and you figured why the hell not right? You slowly sat up from the couch as you wobbled over to the weed bar but before you could make it you felt a pair of arms wrap around your waist holding you up. You looked over your shoulder and saw Tom holding you up which caused a big smile to be plastered on your face. "You are sooooooo sexy." You were completely smashed at this point and you really didn't care about what came out of your mouth, you giggled to yourself as you leaned back against Tom's chest as you gently planted a kiss on his cheek as he helped you over to the weed bar.

"I didn't know you smoked?" He gave a weird look but not one that was full of judgement. He just couldn't picture you smoking pot or let alone anything.

"Oh yeaahhhh. I've been smoking pot for a couple years now but... I don't do it a lot. It just helps me relaxxx." You let a small laugh as you asked the weed bar guy for a small blunt. The scent of the weed was so comforting for you and the alcohol in your system was gunna make you drunk and super high. As the guy handed the blunt to you you drunkingly said "Thank youuuuu," as you took a small puff from the blunt as you blew the smoke out of your nose and laughed as you gently tapped Tom's shoulder. "Hey hey look! I'm a dragon!" You took another rip from the blunt as you blew the smoke out of your nose again and rawered like a dragon. This caused both you and Tom to laugh as you started to suddenly get high and also a bit tired. You finished off the blunt as you wrapped your arms around Tom and laid your head in the crook of his neck.

"Carry me home, Tommy... I'm tired.." You gave him puppy dog eyes as you gently laid a kiss on his neck which caused him to let out a small groan.

"Alright, darling I'll take you home." He smiled at you as he kissed the top of your head as he helped you up gently. He motioned over to Harrison that you were ready to go home.

Tom carried you all the way to your hotel room and you drunkingly said bye to Harrison as he headed back to him and Toms room. As you fumbled with your room key trying to hold your purse in your other hand Tom gently took the key and opened the door to your room. You were literally leaning against his body as he helped you over to the bed as you flopped down onto it on your back. You giggled a bit as you rolled around on your bed and looked at Tom. "You are so frike cute like how?"

"You can thank my parents for that."

"Oh I will." You giggled some more as you sat up on your bed and crossed your legs a bit as you looked at Tom.

"Can you stay with me? I don't wanna sleep in here alone."

"Are you sure that's a good idea, love? I mean you're wicked drunk and I don't want to take advantage of-" You quickly cut him off by sitting up on your knees on your bed as you crawled over to him.

"I was going to ask you to stay and offer you the couch... I may be drunk off my ass but I don't want anything to happen with us... yet." You looked up at him as you bit your bottom lip as you quickly took off your shoes and chocker, gently placing the chocker on the nightstand.

"Heh. Alright love I guess I can do that." Tom smiled as he gently placed a kiss on your forehead and tucked you into the bed.

"I do like you Tom. A lot. And that's not the alcohol talking." Your face was a bit red from the alcohol but you did mean what you said, drunk or not you did like him and you knew he liked you too.

"I like you too, darling. Tomorrow after your panel maybe we can go grab something to eat?" He sat next to you as he brushed a piece of your hair behind your ear.

"I'd like that very much, Tommy." You smiled up at him as you sat up and kissed his cheek before laying back down. Sleep was beginning to take over you as you slowly closed your eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Tom smiled at your cute sleeping form as he went over to the couch and pulled out the bed. He took off his dress shirt and pants only leaving him in his boxers as he got under the blankets and looked at you from the couch as he turned off the lights.

"Goodnight, princess. Sweet dreams."
