Below i will in short explain each party and compare how many seat were gained or lost by that party between the 2019 and 2024 elections, and between the outgoing parliament and 2024 elections:

The first number refers to gain/loss compared between elections, the second refers to gain/loss compared to outgoing parliament.

EPP: centre-right (christian democracy, conservatism, liberal conservatism, pro-europeanism). +3/+9

S&D: centre-left (social democracy, pro-europeanism). -17/-2

Renew Europe: centre (liberalism, pro-europeanism). -29/-23

ECR: right to far-right (conservatism, national conservatism, economic liberalism, soft euro-scepticism). +11/+4

Hello! because you are our EU person on tumblr: any advice who to vote for on Sunday when we care about the environment?

Oof, Anon, that is quite the question.

Bear in mind that for the EU, the environment is technically a shared competence, meaning that there is a lot of push and pull between Member States and the EU regarding who decides what and when. See them more as co-deciders, rather than the EU always being "above" on these questions.

I am NOT in the business of telling people who to vote for. I'm going to slightly twist it and put it as "which European Group has the best record in supporting environment-friendly policies".

Buckle up, we are going on a quest in the European Parliament! Complete with links, sources and all you will need for the adventure, along which I try my hardest to not comment on things that drive me nuts with how European parties and groups work.

First off, this is the current EU Parliament:

These are the seven groups, from left to right:

The Left

Socialists and Democrats (S&D)

The Greens/European Free Alliance (The Greens/EFA)

Renew Europe (ex ALDE)

European People's Party (EPP)

European Conservative and Reformists (ECR)

Identity and Democracy (ID)

Now, I am not an expert in environmental policies, but other people are. What are want to look for is people evaluating the record of each of these parties regarding environmental policies.

Problem: "environmental policies" is kind of broad and vague. We are all for green policies, but parties sometimes disagree on how to get there. There is a longstanding battle between France and Germany overall regarding what is more green, in the long term: coal, or nuclear energy. There are disagreements over whether it is greener to ban some pesticide in Europe, if it means we end up importing more food from outside the EU. How to best support green policies without just displacing polluting industries outside of the borders of the EU? What about emission trading, do we want this? What I mean is that the details tend to be complicated, and multiple groups could try to claim that they support pro-environment policies.

Broadly speaking, for pro-environment policies at European level, you will be looking toward the Left. A dedicated right-wing supporter could argue that they have some green policies as well, but it is simply not their priority, and so if they have to chose between [issue that they campaign on] and green policies, then they will pick [issue that they campaign on]. Note that "issues they campaign on" can be perfectly valid issue, or it may be xenophobic garbage, but fact is, they are not prioritizing green policies, ever. Whereas groups on the left side sometimes do priorities green policies... but not always.

So: The Left, S&D, The Greens and Renew can all more or less plausible claim some record of pro-environmental policies. What you could from there is peruse their website, and look for their policy papers, official positions, etc... It can be hard to fin documents you can really compare with each other, but you could look here:

And before anyone calls me unfair: ID has no section on the environment, EPP has their green policies here and here, and ECR here.

You can find more on each group's website than what I have put here! The Greens and The Left, especially, have much more.

But, smart voter that you are, you know that this is all campaign stuff and fluff. What we may want to know is how well they did so far. What's their record, beyond their words. Well. Good thing smart people have looked into it already.

CAN had a look at that back in 2019. They looked into how each MEP had voted on key environmental issues in the EU. You can find their whole report here, but I will borrow that page from them:

[always a good idea to look into how they pulled out these numbers! They include it in the report, in the "methodology" section. There are little bits I am not suuuper happy with, but overall I think it's a really good, transparent, report.]

So, without much surprise, the Greens score the highest, followed by the Left and S&D, pretty much neck to neck. Overall, if I update the names of the different parties, the ranking goes like this:

As far as I know, however, candidates on the ground tend to market themselves as belonging to a national party, rather than a European group. Which is also why people usually don't even know about European Parliament groups [on which I also have THOUGHTS SOMEONE PLS RESTRAIN ME] For example, in Germany:

And as seen above, usually The Greens do have their logo in there, and sometimes Renew (at least the ALDE used to) but others usually just have their national party affiliations.

The good thing is, it is pretty easy to figure out where each national party stand in the European Parliament. You can google that pretty easily, and I made you a handy dandy list:

Acronyms Explained: PRC vs. ROC

PRC stands for the People's Republic of China, or just China. ROC stands for the Republic of China, or Taiwan. These names date back to the Chinese Civil War in the 1900s.

Acronyms Explained: Political Parties

The three main political parties in Taiwan are currently the KMT, the DPP, and the TPP. The majority of other smaller parties are either aligned with the KMT or DPP.

Kuomintang/KMT : This is the oldest party in Taiwan, often associated with its color blue. This is the party dating back to Sun Yat-Sen, Chiang Kai-Shek, and the single-party rule of the White Terror. Politics in Taiwan don't really follow the left-center-right spectrum of other countries, but this party would be center-right or right-wing. They are associated with being more pro-China. The stereotype from opposition parties is that they are aligned with older people, rural people, and gangsters. The KMT currently has the most seats in Taiwan's legislature, but it is important to note that they don't hold a majority of the seats.

Democratic Progressive Party/DPP : This party is associated with the color green. It was founded in 1986, a year before martial law ended in Taiwan, and has long been seen as the more progressive alternative to the KMT. It has a center to center-left lean. The current president of Taiwan, Lai Ching-Te, and his predecessor Tsai Ing-Wen are both from this party. Tsai's administration most notably saw the legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan. This party is associated with Taiwanese Nationalism, that is an identity of being Taiwanese rather than Chinese.

Taiwan People's Party/TPP : New to the scene but quite important in the legislature currently, this party is mostly associated with the color white. It was only founded in 2019, meant to be an alternative to the tired politics of the KMT and DPP. This party claims to be center-left and has been noted for mobilizing many of Taiwan's young people and students. However, the TPP has teamed up with the KMT lately in the legislature to push through the latest legislative reform bill that has been criticized for putting Taiwan's democracy at risk. The TPP's 8 seats combined with the KMT's seats in the legislature do form a majority.

O starých IDS JMK odjezdových tabulích

Jak víme, na hlaváku nyní máme dva druhy tabulí. Máme ty nové v podchodu a potom ty staré nahoře nad nimi. Můžete si poté ale často všimnout že tabule v podchodu ukazují přesnější čas odjezdu a obecně IDS tabule více "skáčou" s časem odjezdu.

Tyto tabule od kordisu vznikly v roce 2007 s iniciativou vytvoření centrálního dispečinku IDS JMK na podobu Brněnského systému RIS a tyto panely mají označení ELektrické informační Panely neboli ELP-y. Nyní jako důvody nepřestostí přímo cituji staré webstránky IDS JMK:

"Korekce časů odjezdů na ELPech má určitou míru přesnosti. Je dána intervalem odesílání informací o zpoždění z vozidel a dobou, během níž jsou tyto zprávy zpracovány. V reálném provozu jsou tak ELPy schopny korigovat čas odjezdu podle údaje obdrženého z předposlední zastávky. Pokud vozidlo během následující jízdy získá další zpoždění (např. z důvodu zdržení na křižovatce), taková zpráva již do centra pro zpracování údajů pro ELP nedorazí. Občas se proto může stát, že odjezd z ELPu zmizí dříve, než vozidlo na zastávku přijede či obráceně."

Nové odjezdové tabule již fungují na novém systému řízení dopravy RIS II (který vychází ze systému DPMB ale zahrnuje jednotné vybavení vozidel v celém JMK), uvedený do provozu k roku 2019. Tímto systémem se samozřejmě řídí i aplikace iRIS a ostatní (pravděpodobně i například IDOS).

Bonus: systém IDS JMK podle této reportáže již od roku 2009 umožnoval kontrolu odjezdů spoje pomocí internetové stránky

Puppy pinball update: These bitches played pinball in a pencil skirt and wedges.

(Ref [Img 1] for ID) We went to Belles and Chimes Toronto last night and had an absolute blast! It was so cool to get the chance to have fun playing pinball with other women. The group was so lovely and so friendly, and we felt genuinely rejuvenated by it. It was magic.

Now for the pinball part:

We placed T-7 out of 10, with 18 total points in a 4-2-1-0 scoring system across 9 games. Mathematically, that means we averaged 2nd place in our games, which is rad! Really, what happened was we won 3 games, which was a HUGE thrill. 2 fourths, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds rounded out a very delightful night! Tusk, New Democracy, Liberal party celebrate major election victory

Despite the success of right-wing and radical right-wing parties, the main pro-European parties will still be the leading force in the European Parliament following Sunday’s election results.

Tusk celebrates victory

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s centrist party won its first electoral victory over a right-wing populist party in a decade, taking the most votes in European Parliament elections, official results released Monday showed, AP News reports.

Many viewed Tusk’s return to power last year as a rare case of a democratic party winning over populist and authoritarian forces. But while Sunday’s victory strengthened his position, the results also showed his lead is slim and support for the far-right is growing.

His Civic Coalition won 37.1 per cent of the vote. The nationalist Law and Justice party, which was in power from 2015 until last year and is led by Jaroslaw Kaczyński, won 36.2 per cent of the vote, showing the continued appeal of its conservative outlook to many Polish voters despite corruption scandals during its years in power.

The Confederation gets best results

Meanwhile, the Confederation posted its best result ever, coming third with 12.1 per cent – in line with an EU-wide surge in support for anti-EU nationalist parties.

One of the Confederate candidates who won a seat is Grzegorz Braun, the scandalous politician who last December snuffed out candles on a menorah lit in honour of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah in the halls of Poland’s parliament.

New Democracy wins in Greece

Greece’s ruling centre-right party New Democracy (EPP) won the election but lost more than a million votes compared to last year’s national election, with the opposition unable to catch up.

New Democracy scored 27.7 per cent, well below the 33 per cent set by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and well below the 41 per cent it scored in the July 2023 legislative elections, losing almost 1.1 million votes.

Winners and losers in Portugal

Portugal’s centre-right party (S&D) and liberal party (Renew) were the winners of Sunday’s European elections in Portugal, where, unlike most other EU countries, the far-right Chega (ID) party was defeated.

Although Portuguese voters voted for the Socialist Party, taking 11 of 18 constituencies and ahead of the Democratic Alliance (PSD-CDS-PPM, EPP), which won the general election three months ago, the party won eight of the 21 seats in the European Parliament, losing one seat compared to 2019 despite more votes.

okay, so… i know neil has replied to this question already, and he said that the costume changes for crowley are motivated by the simple idea that “he just wanted a change that day”… but like… did he, really?

i truly welcome the costume change, i honestly think it was needed, taking into consideration that there already have been 4 years between the two seasons, crowley is the man with the trends and things have changed so much in such little time. also, i'd love to see crowley with that turtleneck from now on, i like the new glasses as well, but… the turtleneck only appeared for one episode, while still using his 2019-glasses. and then, the next episode, it was the usual combo with new glasses and that's what we got for the rest of the season… something simply does not sit right with me, taking into consideration that the costume department on gomens does a phenomenal job (see: 1941 and recreating the looks perfectly).

that made me think about that mega-theory that has been circulating about the writing of this season and how it might reflect metatron's meddling and i am really questioning now, because this is one aspect that i did find particularly odd, are we sure that those costume changes aren't important like neil has said?

after all, neil does need to lie or hide details that might be revealed later, just like he hid so much about how season 2 will go, and another thing is that he also did say that he didn't include certain lines about hastur in this new season because he didn't want for people to take them as relevant or important… so, just like that meta underlines, there is intentionality in their choices. what was the intention behind these two costume changes, then?

-and maybe that's true but... no, i don't think it is. i agree with you, and think there must be something a bit screwy going on. ive got the huge theory that you mentioned bookmarked, and have skimmed through it, but need to really sit down and read it properly. in any case, i do think metatron had a bigger hand in this season that we're giving him credit for in the last half hour of ep6.

now idk if its anything or just something of nothing, but whilst i love the idea that it's aziraphale and crowley together that is the cause of the 25-Lazarii scale miracle that got heaven going into reactor meltdown (and maybe it is - id love it if that were the case), but idk how far i believe it.

and so - time to whip out the tinfoil hat.

for whatever reason, there seemed to be a lot of emphasis this season on that section of the bookshop (and again might be just because, or down to filming logistics etc and tbh now i think about it probably definitely, but i cannot for the life of me shake this from my noggin):

like, that one shot is so pretty but also feels so purposeful? and was then bookended by aziraphale in ep6 calling 101-metatron through the portal...

i just can't shake the feeling that metatron (especially given that he was very pro-armageddon in s1 and lmao aziraphale and crowley went and fucked it up anyway) might have had a closer eye on them than anticipated...

...like, he knew to approach aziraphale with 'gross matter' and encourage him to partake. knew that the archangels had gone down there to the bookshop in the first place. knew how to push aziraphale's buttons as concerns crowley. knew the true nature of their relationship (or at least suspected it), even though it was put like only hell really had any clue.

knew that aziraphale wouldn't in good conscience turn down the opportunity to change heaven if it meant he, crowley, and everyone could actually experience a heaven that befits the name. knew that he ought to dress in darker clothes to lend himself more to being 'in the grey', rather than the exclusively light clothes the archangels favour.

knew to adopt mannerisms and speech patterns that were eerily like aziraphale himself, who has spent thousands of years living amongst humans. knew to directly address crowley as the only clued-in figure in the room, "what about you demon, do you know me?".

knew to take aziraphale across the road to the restaurant where aziraphale and crowley had previous sat, aziraphale adopted the softest expressions we've ever seen. knew to say "take all the time you need" to encourage aziraphale to speak to crowley, but then hurried him out the door as soon as the argument was over and aziraphale's resolve was wavering.

now idk if any of this actually means anything. im sure it probably doesn't. but it is odd. i don't necessarily think (so far - may well change!) that metatron's been directly influencing anything from the very beginning, because i think that cheapens the season's kinda message about having agency and conviction in self... but it does bely a certain amount of peril that in many key moments, aziraphale and crowley were not alone.

now in terms of the costume? that i have no idea on. but iirc in the book, crowley was described as having bought loads of the same sunglasses - he even keeps spares in the bentley glovebox! so why would this, and his hairstyle, change so drastically? idk. i don't even have a musing on it, let alone a theory. i don't think it's a case of "that's not crowley!", i don't think someone is impersonating him or mind controlling him... but something does stink to high heaven✨

ts no secret that I'm a pro wrestling fan. But Im not sure if Ive actually uploaded the ref sheet on here or not but back in 2019 I created a character by the name of Firefly that was a fluffy raptor with a glowing tail ..

... who was a direct inspiration of the character The Fiend from the WWE. The Fiend was a character played by the pro wrestler Bray Wyatt or real name , Windham Rotunda. Ive been a huge fan of him ever since 2015 ( when I got back into being a big pro wrestling fan & fell in love with wrestlers like Cesaro/Claudio , the new day, Neville/Pac who I also have a character based on as well , Asuka, and so many others) I love horror however horror and pro wrestling never mixed well but the way Windham would do horror was ... fun. Especially his Firefly funhouse and White rabbit story. They reminded me a lot of lost tv creepypastas Id listen to during school (teachers would let me listen to stuff while I worked in 11th and 12th grade) about kids tv show hosts going crazy . The white rabbit storyline gave me analog horror and arg vibes with all the fun people could do with deep diving and exploring. It was all so much fun and its amazing that he got a chance to do such fun stories that even lead to some of my friends that never were into pro wrestling into becoming pro wrestling fans....

... to say my heart hurts is an understatement of the news of Windham Rotunda's passing. He was a big part of so many peoples lives. The fact that he was taken at 36 is even more heartbreaking, thats only 13 years older than me, thats far too young. Im not good with words or typing much, but I made this piece in my way of grieving in this time.

Alpha CC or MaxisMatch? I'm not a big alpha fan. I do have some alpha CC, but I'd say I'm 97% Maxis-match.

Do you cheat your sims weight? No, but they never really seem to change their weight, so.... ???

Do you use move objects? Absolutely! I do a lot of building and it's practically essential for building

Favourite Mod? MC Command Center. I don't actually have that many mods in my game, and I could live without most of them, but MCCC is too useful to play without at this point.

First Expansion/Game Pack/Stuff Pack? Get To Work (EP), Outdoor Retreat (GP), and I forget which stuff pack I got first. It was either Spooky Stuff or Backyard Stuff.

Do you pronounce live mode like aLIVE or LIVing? I pronounce it like "LIVing"

Who's your favourite sim that you've made? As a character, definitely Victor Nelson, but in terms of aesthetic/attractiveness (to me) I'll say Eden Seong, and Prince Makai.

Have you made a simself? Yes, I have made a simself, and I've played her in more than one save. Currently, she's living her best life in Newcrest.

Which Sim traits do you give yourself? Dog Lover, Creative, Socially Awkward, Foodie

Which is your favourite EA hair color? either ginger or black

Favourite EA hair? For both males and females, I really like the wavy hair that's tucked up in back, with wisps at the sides, that came with Eco Lifestyle.

Favourite life stage? Young Adult or Adult, simply because the majority of interactions and opportunities in the game are geared toward them. I'm starting to appreciate children a bit more, though they still leave much to be desired in terms of gameplay.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay? I would definitely consider myself a builder, although it's certainly not the only thing I do with the game.

What’s your favourite game? Unpopular opinion, but my favourite iteration of the game is actually Sims 4 (and I've played every version; original, 2, 3 and 4)

How has your « sims style » changed throughout your years of playing? I'm not sure my actual "style" has changed, but I do think my sims look better than they did when I didn't use skin details and non-default eyes. Plus, with practice, I've learned to create better faces.

Who’s your favourite CC creator? I don’t really have a favourite. I like what I like, regardless of who made it.
