"I am not alone! Today, in a letter to the editor of The Sciences magazine, I read for the very first time in my life a subjective account by an intersexual. This person identified themselves as an intersexual and spoke directly about their experience. The letter also mentioned that there is an organization called the Intersex Society of North America, and called for intersexuals and those who care about them to write.
I am blown away, it is almost too much to take in. Yes, we do exist, there are others like me, we have a shared history and shared experiences. I feel an enormous sense of relief, of excitement, of happiness. There are others like me and others who deeply desire the need to be just who they are. It is not such a rare condition after all.
My words escape me now, my universe is slowly turning, tipping up on its head, right before my very eyes. This news will surely and profoundly change me, but in ways that I cannot even guess at right now. I am still a pioneer in my efforts to come out as a hermaphrodite, but I am not the only one. There are others who feel as I do, who cry out against the torment and the unjust persecution we suffer by those who see us as freaks and monsters to be “fixed” out of existence. My own very private little world is about to have guests, not visitors from a foreign land, but long forgotten family who speak in my native tongue."

The Untold Story of Aaliyah
When considering Aaliyah’s track record, it’s befitting that her name means “The highest, most exalted one, the best.”
Her parents, Diane and Michael, decided on the name based on the high hopes and expectations they would have if they had a daughter. Her success as both a recording artist and actress actually makes the name of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Aaliyah made her dreams come true. At 22, she not only had a very successful recording career but also established herself as a motion picture actress and an accomplished business woman.
Born January 1979, Aaliyah Haughton, with her silky smooth voice, signed a record deal with her uncle in Detroit when she was just 12.
Two years later after she was signed, Aaliyah teamed with R&B singer songwriter R. Kelly to make her first record "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number." It was an instant success. The first single, “Back And Forth,” was a Top 5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a No.1 R&B song.
youtube
Billboard Magazine said Aaliyah "revolutionized R&B with her honey-coated voice and sultry mix of pop, soul and hip-hop."
Her signature style of a crop top or bandeau top paired with baggy jeans, with long hair partially covering her left eye, is emblematic of her "sweet but street" style and still emulated today.
Teen Vogue once wrote Aaliyah set the prototype for the young female artist of the ‘90s.
Meanwhile, Aaliyah became involved with Kelly and the two were secretly married when Aaliyah was just 15, in 1994, using falsified documents procured by a member of his inner circle.
R. Kelly and Aaliyah: A look at an illegitimate marriage
Tumblr media
In 2019, federal prosecutors charged Kelly with scheming with others to pay for a fake ID for an unnamed female a day before he married Aaliyah.
The revised indictment accused Kelly of paying a bribe in exchange for a "fraudulent identification document" for someone identified only as "Jane Doe" on Aug. 30, 1994.
A day later, Kelly, then 27, married Aaliyah in a secret ceremony he arranged at a hotel in Chicago.
Her parents discovered this and quickly annulled the marriage.
But the scandal tarnished Aaliyah's reputation more than Kelly's. She was portrayed as a teen seductress rather than one of Kelly's first and many victims.
In 2021, a former backup performer for R. Kelly testified that she saw Mr. Kelly engaging in a sex act with the R&B singer Aaliyah around 1993, when Aaliyah was only 13 or 14 years old.
The woman, who testified under only the name Angela, told jurors at Mr. Kelly's criminal trial in Brooklyn that she was performing with Mr. Kelly on tour when she went to visit the singer on his tour bus.
But as she began to open the door, Angela said, she saw Mr. Kelly, who was in his mid-20s at the time, and Aaliyah "in a sexual situation," she told jurors. Aaliyah was seated in a chair, she said, and Mr. Kelly was kneeling and appeared to be performing a sex act on the girl.
Angela "closed the door abruptly," she said, and never spoke with Mr. Kelly about what she saw.
Tumblr media
In 2021, at Kelly's trial, during which six accusers, including Angela, have said that Mr. Kelly had sex with them while they were underage, Angela's account stood apart from others: Aaliyah, whom Mr. Kelly married illegally in 1994, is the youngest girl that the singer has been accused of sexually abusing. And Angela became the first accuser to testify that she had seen the two engaged in sexual acts.
Aaliyah, who was one of the most celebrated music stars of the 1990s, has been a significant focus of Mr. Kelly's trial. The marriage of the two singers, using falsified documents when Aaliyah was 15 and Mr. Kelly was 27, prompted the first significant scrutiny of his encounters with underage girls.
Potential sexual crimes that date to the early 1990s would typically be too old to prosecute. But the racketeering charge, which claims that the singer, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was the head of a criminal scheme that preyed on women and underage girls for sex, allows the government wider latitude.
R. Kelly sentenced to 30 years in prison for federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges
Tumblr media
Angela said she first met Mr. Kelly around 1991, when she was between 14 and 15 years old. The singer began to have sex with her while she was underage and a student in high school, she testified.
On a separate stop in Washington, D.C., during the tour, Angela recalled that she and a group of other girls including Aaliyah were reprimanded for breaking the singer’s instructions. Angela told jurors that they had made a trip to a 7-Eleven convenience store for food, but that Mr. Kelly had told them not to leave their hotel. When he learned of their disobedience, he demanded sex, she said.
“Robert told all of us we would have to put out,” she said. “It was dues time,” she added, explaining to jurors that the singer often presented having sex with him as a form of paying their dues.
As Mr. Kelly’s conduct came under renewed scrutiny at the height of the Me Too movement, both installments of the “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary series delved into the accusations.
“If people would have protected Aaliyah, so many other girls wouldn’t have gotten touched,” a former boyfriend, Damon Dash, said during the second portion of the Lifetime series. “Aaliyah was like the sacrificial lamb for all that.”
Tumblr media
"Surviving R. Kelly", the revelatory Lifetime documentary series that has illuminated the star’s myriad horrific sex crimes, grooming, and child abuse, detailed new allegations about the end of Kelly’s unlawful marriage to the then-teenage Aaliyah. According to multiple sources in the docuseries, Aaliyah’s family agreed to an NDA after the annulment with one source saying the family promised not to press charges if Kelly sold the family the rights to his first three albums.
Lifetime series include allegations about members of Kelly’s inner circle allegedly looking the other way at Kelly’s abuse of women, girls and also young men over decades, with Pratt saying that “He [Kelly] couldn’t do this by himself… it’s clear as day there were enablers.” Variety noted that the Aaliyah NDA came up during Kelly’s 2022 New York trial, though it did not receive widespread media coverage at the time; Chicago reporter Jim DeRogatis originally broke the news of the NDA, telling the New York Times Popcast podcast in 2018 that the agreement was a “harrowing document… A non-disclosure agreement on both her part and Kelly’s, vowing not to pursue further legal claims for physical abuse. So, it wasn’t just an underage sexual relationship, he hit her, allegedly, according to that court document.”
In federal court in 2022, a Chicago jury found Kelly guilty of three counts of child pornography and three counts of enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity. Aaliyah was named as Jane Doe No. 1 in that trial. 2022 also saw Kelly sentenced to 30 years in prison in a New York court after being found guilty on all counts in a sex-crimes and racketeering case, which saw testimony from 11 accusers (six of whom were underage when the abuse began).
Aaliyah's Singing and Acting Career: Impact and Legacy
Tumblr media
Aaliyah changed the sound of R&B music and was one of the most beloved singers of the ‘90s.
Aaliyah’s sophomore album, “One in a Million,” catapulted her to fame with Timbaland’s innovative production and Missy Elliot’s songwriting. This album showcased Aaliyah’s unique style and her undeniable talent in the music industry.
Tumblr media
"One in a Million" went double platinum after its release in 1996, and her third — and final — album, Aaliyah, dropped in 2001 and peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's top 10 list.
Aaliyah’s “Try Again” beat out Britney Spears’ ““Oops!... I Did It Again” video and Christina Aguilera’s “What a Girl Wants” to win best female video at the MTV video awards in 2000, another sign she was poised for super stardom.
In addition to her music career, Aaliyah made a name for herself as an actress, starring in films such as “Romeo Must Die” and “Queen of the Damned.” Her role in “Romeo Must Die” alongside Jet Li showcased her acting prowess and led to the creation of the iconic song “Try Again.” Aaliyah was also set to appear in “The Matrix” sequels before her untimely passing.
Sadly, two months after the debut of her self-titled album, Aaliyah’s life was tragically cut short when she died in a plane crash in the Bahamas after filming her music video “Rock the Boat” on Aug. 25, 2001.
youtube
The Mysterious Death of Aaliyah: What Caused the Tragic Plane Crash?
Still, two decades later, an air of mystery surrounds what went so tragically wrong on Aug. 25, 2001, when an hour-long flight from the beachy shores of the Abaco Islands to Miami claimed the lives of the 22-year-old superstar Aaliyah D. Haughton and eight others. And, while her family and fans were still processing the sudden loss and an investigation into the crash was barely underway, Aaliyah’s death was quickly eclipsed by another tragedy, Sept. 11.
In the years since, there have been few explanations for why the plane was ever allowed off the ground in the first place. Arguments had broken out between Aaliyah’s entourage and the pilot over the plane being overweight. After the crash, it was quickly confirmed that the small twin-engine plane exceeded its maximum weight limit by several hundred pounds. Plus, the weight was not evenly distributed, which would have made the plane harder to control once it got into the air. The last significant update came in 2002, when a toxicology report found that the inexperienced pilot had cocaine and alcohol in his system.
The news adds to a long list of troubling stories implying that neither the pilot nor the plane were fit to fly, leading to lawsuits filed by the singer’s family and the survivors of other passengers on the doomed flight.
The investigation ultimately ruled Aaliyah’s death as an accident, with the coroner concluding that she died from severe burns and a blow to the head. The tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to aviation regulations, ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers and crew alike.
Tumblr media
In a 2021 book by journalist Kathy Iandoli, the unauthorized biography, Baby Girl: Better Known As Aaliyah (Atria Books, Simon & Schuster), the author describes the tragedy as one that was likely avoidable.
Iandoli also writes that according to a man who was a 13-year-old baggage handler at the time, Aaliyah, who had been resistant to flying that day, complained of a headache and was napping before being given a pill that he could not identify. The handler, named Kingsley Russell, helped deliver her water before she took the pill. She then fell back asleep and was aided onto the plane.
The Wild Conspiracy Theories Surrounding Aaliyah's Death
After Kelly's arrest, conspiracy theories have begun circulating on the Internet, shockingly suggesting that the Aaliyah's death may not have been an accident.
One of these suspicious theories claimed the singer could have met her end thanks to shady figures in the music industry.
Hinting that industry big-wigs may have become worried about her success, and feared that she might use her platform to out her ex husband's alleged actions, they shockingly suggested that her untimely death may have been an effort to silence her.
In 2024, P Diddy’s arrest sparks wild conspiracy theories involving also Beyoncé and Jay-Z in Aaliyah's death.
P Diddy, who collaborated with Kelly on the track Satisfy You in 1999, was arrested on September 16, 2024. Some of the similarities in the cases brought against Sean “Diddy” Combs this week and Robert Sylvester Kelly several years ago are evident at a glance: Both are world famous, powerful and influential musicians who were accused of sex crimes by federal prosecutors in New York City.
Tumblr media
But Combs’ case echoes R. Kelly’s in another way: In each, prosecutors relied on a novel use of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO, to indict them on allegations of using that power and fame to wield the resources, businesses and people who answered to them to commit crimes – and attempt to cover them up.
Moreover, Radar Online reportedly spoke to R. Kelly about the situation back in March 2024 (when federal officers raided Diddy's Los Angeles and Miami homes). "I don’t believe none of this s**t," R. Kelly reportedly said of the Diddy situation. "You could tell me about Puffy, you could tell me about anybody. You could tell me on the news, the weather, the sky is blue, I’m not gonna believe the s**t. 'Cause I’m in it now, and I know what they did." Kelly claimed that authorities are "hunting" him, Puff Daddy, and other celebrities because of the "flagrant" way in which they handled their wealth, success, and capacity for power.
In a shocking twist, the arrest of hip-hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs in New York City has also unleashed a whirlwind of conspiracy theories, linking some of the music industry's biggest powerhouses—Beyoncé and Jay-Z—to a shadowy underworld of criminal activities. The federal investigation into Diddy, centred on alleged sex trafficking, has rekindled long-standing rumours and fan-fueled theories about his connections with the iconic duo.
The most bizarre theory claims that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are somehow connected to the deaths of beloved music icons like Aaliyah, Left Eye, and Michael Jackson. Yes, you read that right—some theorists believe that the couple, along with Diddy, played a role in the untimely deaths of these stars, including Tupac. Well you wanna know why? Because these celebrities were “taken out” for refusing to fall in line with the industry’s so-called secret elite trio.
J. Cole's popular 2013 track "She Knows" has recently gained traction on social media, thanks to a TikTok conspiracy theory involving the deaths of Aaliyah, Lisa Left Eye Lopes and Michael Jackson.
The theory connects Beyoncé to J. Cole's song "She Knows," claiming that the rapper was referencing the singer in the title. The theory speculates that Beyoncé allegedly had knowledge of a supposed plan by Diddy and Jay-Z that resulted in the deaths of Aaliyah, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Michael Jackson.
Fans have drawn their theories from the lyrics:
"Only bad thing 'bout a star is they burn up / Rest in peace to Aaliyah / Rest in peace to Left Eye / Michael Jackson, I'll see ya / Just as soon as I die."
However, the insinuation that R. Kelly or Sean "Diddy" Combs, Jay-Z, and Beyoncé, were complicit in Aaliyah, MJ, and Left Eye's deaths is not proven by any official evidence.

An article by Linda Simensky on Ed, Edd n' Eddy, published in the summer 1999 edition of Take One magazine. Full issue here. Transcript under the cut.
One day in 1996, I got a fax at the Atlanta head office of the Cartoon Network where I am vice president of original animation. It was from Vancouver animator Danny Antonucci. Danny had sent me a drawing of threee goofy looking guys, with the title Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy, and the tagline: "They're friends because they have the same name." "What do you think?" he wrote. Hilarious, I remember thinking. I remembered that back in 1974, I used to hang out with two girls in my neighbourhood, Linda J. and Linda V. We didn't have much in common other than living in the same neighbourhood and having the same name. I immediately identified with the concept and series as a whole.
Well, actually there were several more steps before that last part happened but they were easy. I showed the fax to Mike Lazzo, the senior vice president of programming and production at the Cartoon Network, and he laughed. "Can we see more? Is there a bible?" he asked. The series bible came through by fax, a few pages at a time, over a period of the next few months. After an affirmative response from Betty Cohen, the president of the Caroon Network, the legal paperwork and deal making began. Not long after, a start-up meeting was held poolside at Chateau Marmont, the one moment of Hollywood glamoue we'd experience. "How soon can you have it ready?" asked the general manager and I watched Danny's eyebrows go up. Thus the Sisyphean task of producing the series began. Up to that point, the Cartoon Network had only produced shows through Hanna-Barbera in Los Angeles. Even shorts that were produced in smaller studios in other cities were produced through Hanna-Barbera. This would be the first show to be produced outside that system and the first to report directly to the Cartoon Network. The fate of our working with independant studios rested with this show. Nothing like a little pressure! In addition, every series we had done had started with a seven-minute short, but this time we were so sure we were on the right track that we jumped right in to serious production.
At that point in time, the Cartoon Network had been putting a great deal of effort into finding properties that weren't just animated sitcoms but were actually cartoons. Visually eyepopping, gag-laden, character-driven and most importantly, funny. Those were our cartoon goals. We were also trying to produce the cartoons by setting up units which would be creator-driven and self-contained. The old Warner Bros. "Termite Terrace" was our model since, as far as we were concerned, that's how the best cartoons were made. In the mid-1990s, Hanna-Barbera produced a series of 48 cartoons. The Cartoon Network went into series production on three of those shorts: Dexter's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, and Johnny Bravo. We were in development on our next show, Powerpuff Girls, with the Dexter unit, and were starting to put several other projects into development, when we decided the Eds should have their own series.
Antonucci's earlier projects had made him a household name among animators. Lupo the Butcher, his animated short from the lates 1980s was, to some degree, the South Park of its time. I can remember a tape of Lupobeing passed around the office back in 1988, as people told each other, "You got to see this!" A few years later, in 1994, Antonucci started up his own studio, a.ka. Cartoon, in Vancouver to produce his show The Brothers Grunt for MTV. Following that, he spent the next few years doing commercials, promos, network IDs and the opening for MTV's Cartoon Sushi.
He decided to remain in Vancouver and expand his studio to accommodate series production. After working out of a small, five-person studio, a.k.a. Cartoon moved into a loft in the Gastown section of Vancouver and began hiring a full staff to work on the first 13 episodes. Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy is the story of three best friends bound by the same name, gawky social graces and an overwhelming desire to fit in. The series takes place during summer vacation, as the Eds search the cul-de-sac where they live for adventure, acceptance and money to buy candy. Ed is into monster movies and model kits. Edd is the really smart, really quiet and the unnatrually polite one. Eddy is the ringleadrer who loves being the centre of attention. The Eds are driven by their constant quest for cash, mostly for buying jawbreakers.
Their schemes -- childhood ventures -- optimistic profit margins -- and oddball twists.
The other neighbourhood kids round out the stories. Sarah is Ed's whiny younger sister. Rolf is the first-generation immigrant of unknown origin who eats strange things and has a pet goat. Jimmy prefers hanging out with Sarah and finds the Eds too rough. Kevin, the neighbourhood cynic, finds the Eds' ideas stupid. Nazz is the neighbourhood heatthrob and the mysterious Jonny 2x4 has a best friend that is a wooden board named Plank. Rounding out the cast are the neighbourhood bullies, the dreaded Kanker Sisters. The characters are loosely based on Danny's two sons, assorted friends and people he's known throughout his life.
Each half-hour episode is comprised of two, 11-minute cartoons. Typical episodes range from the Eds crashing Nazz's sprinkler party, to dealing with cycles of fads that blow through the cul-de-sac, to Sarah's newfound crush on Edd. Each cartoon is produced "the old-fashioned way" to guarantee the maximum number of laughs. Danny works with the story editor/head writer Jono Howard and a few other writers to generate the story ideas. Each writer then produces one-to-two page outlines with the beats of the story. The outline is handed to two storyboard artists who work out the actions and the gags. The storyboards remain up on the wall for the big pitch, at which point the artists pitch the storyboard to Danny and everyone else in the studio. The receptionist, the accountant and any visitors that day are all included in the pitch audience. The gags and beats that get laughs are keepers. The ones that fall flat get feedback or are reconsidered.
Season one, which premiered January 1999, is doing remarkably well in the ratings. Every now and then the Cartoon Network produces a show that has an impact on popular culture or day-to-day life. Recently, a journalist in Tallahasse, Fla., wrote a column in his local newspaper about his search for the huge jawbreakers his kids saw on Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy. In the April 19 issue of People magazine, in the crossword puzzle, the clue for #45 down was the cartoon show, Ed, ___ 'n' Eddy. Fan Web sites are starting to spring up.
The show has started to appear in other countries via international cartoon networks. A second season has already been ordered for a November 1999 broadcast date. Apparently, puberty is as international as it is unforgiving. Will the Eds ever be shown in their own backyard? Will Canadians ever get to see the "Canadian Squirt Gun" episode in season two? Probably. While Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy will hopefully be acquired for air on one of the Canadian cable channels, for now you will have to rely on tapes from friends in the United States.

So back in July I worked on the blitter feature for the Asspull IIIx, then took a break to work on the drawing program and finally added mixed bit depths some two days ago. But one thing bothered me.
Though I know for a fact that I used some assets from Jack (Silky's, 1995) and Valentine Kiss (Silky's, 1996) for early testing, among other such sources, I couldn't for the life of me remember which PC-98 game the blitter test images came from. And I have an archive of a lot of PC-98 games' ripped graphics.
And then I remembered you can search by image size. 208 is not a common width for character art so even if there's a lot of results it can't be too hard to pick out this one character.
It was from Watashi (Pearl Soft, 1997). Load off of my mind.
For the sake of transparency and since I'm known to be a pervert already, if you grab the initial commit from GitHub you'll find test images from the following sources:
Doki Doki Vacation (Cocktail Soft, 1995, still used in my WIP Columns)
Dreamy (Megami, 1994)
Jedai (D.O., 1994)
Lipstick Adventure 3 (Fairytale, 1993)
Manami no Doko Made Iku no (Wendy Magazine, 1991)
Sex (Aypio, 1995, and yes there is a Sex 2)
Stars (Aypio, 1997)
True Love (Parsley, 1995)
Valentine Kiss (Silky's, 1996)
Jack: Haitoku no Megami (Silky's, 1995)
Wolfenstein 3D (iD, 1992)
Prince of Persia (Brøderbund, 1990)
/r/shinyporn, best I can tell.
If you don't want to grab that commit, I'm willing to pick and choose some of the safer ones and post 'em here.

[Image ID: A tweet from No Lie With Bryan Tyler Cohen @NoLieWithTBC. The tweet states, 'The red line is when Republicans ended the national assault weapons ban.' Underneath this is a chart, showing mass shootings in the US from 1980 to 2022. There is a red line at 2004. The number of shooting victims gradually increases after 2004. End ID]
requested by anonymous
RATING: MOSTLY RELIABLE
The chart is from this article in the Financial Times. The chart itself is accurate, and it is also true that an assault rifle ban expired in the US in 2004.
Source: 'Twenty five years ago, when Biden was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Congress passed the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act — commonly called the assault weapons ban.
It prohibited the manufacture or sale for civilian use of certain semi-automatic weapons. The act also banned magazines that could accommodate 10 rounds or more.
[...] Sponsors also accepted a "sunset provision" by which the 1994 ban would automatically expire after 10 years unless renewed by a vote of Congress.'
However, some context is missing. For example, the image of the graph cuts out the text underneath it, which explains that the threshold for a mass shooting was lowered from 4 to 3 deaths in 2013, and that this change is reflected in the graph.
Source: 'This database includes shootings in "a public place in which four or more victims were killed." That threshold was lowered to three victims in 2013, which is reflected in the data from then on. The data excludes shootings during "more conventionally motivated crimes such as armed robbery or gang violence."
Furthermore, evidence around the effectiveness of the 1994 assault rifle ban is inconclusive. Whether it reduced overall gun deaths is unclear, although the evidence that it reduced mass shooting deaths specifically is somewhat stronger.
Source: 'Evidence for the effect of assault weapon bans on mass shootings is inconclusive. Evidence that high-capacity magazine bans may decrease mass shootings is limited.'
Source: 'In a linear regression model controlling for yearly trend, the federal ban period was associated with a statistically significant 9 fewer mass shooting related deaths per 10,000 firearm homicides (p = 0.03). Mass-shooting fatalities were 70% less likely to occur during the federal ban period'
Source: 'Critics of the ban have argued that it violated Second Amendment rights while accomplishing little, and evidence suggests it did not do much to reduce the incidence of gun violence overall.
What it did, its defenders reply, was reduce the number of people killed in mass shootings.
Both sides of the debate claim vindication in subsequent research. Comparing the various studies is difficult because they use different definitions of "assault weapon" and mass shooting.'
The effectiveness of the ban may have been weakened due to the fact that any assault rifles already owned were not included in the ban, as well as that most gun deaths are from handguns.
Source: 'But to secure the votes for passage, the ban's sponsors agreed to allow those who already had these guns to keep them.'

The time a boxer spends inside the ring can feel like a lifetime. Three minutes can be the same as three years, depending on what happens inside the ring. But the truth is a boxer's time in boxing is finite. Despite the fighters inside of boxing growing increasingly older over the last two decades, with two of the three highest-rated pound-for-pound fighters, Terence Crawford and Oleksandr Usyk, in their late thirties, boxing is a young man's game. And each year, a boxer plies his trade shouldn't be wasted. Each year should have a goal in mind and a purpose to further along the fighter's objective or mission. Sometimes, it's a matter of timing and opportunity colliding. Yet, roadblocks are a constant, especially in a sport as volatile as professional boxing.
One year in boxing that deserves to be highlighted is 1994. This year served as a breakout year for one of boxing's biggest stars of the last thirty years, Felix “Tito” Trinidad. The 1990s are now looked upon with rose-colored glasses, but the decade was filled with some of the same issues that plague boxing to this day, such as fights not taking place due to promotional differences and ties with networks like Showtime and HBO. Trinidad would go on to have years in boxing, where he accomplished more in the ring and made more money in significant fights. 2000, he won the Ring Magazine and BWAA Fighter of the Year awards. Yet, 1994 was the first year in his career where he genuinely garnered the attention of the boxing public, emerging as the next potential star out of Puerto Rico. And one of the best young fighters in the world.
Hector Camacho UD12
January 29, 1994
MGM Grand Las Vegas
Title Defense #3
Trinidad Record: 22-0, 19 KOs
Camacho Record: 44-2-0-1, 21 KOs
The two premier Puerto Rican fighters of the 1980s were Wilfredo Gomez and Wilfred Benitez. By the time Trinidad won a world title in the summer of 1993 by knocking out Maurice Blocker in two rounds for the IBF welterweight title, both careers of Benitez and Gomez had long been over. However, perhaps boxing's most loquacious and larger-than-life character inside and outside the squared circle, Hector "Macho" Camacho, was still around the game as one of the sport's biggest names and most active fighters.
While the three-division champion, who held titles at super-featherweight, lightweight, and junior welterweight, was years behind his best days when he faced Trinidad in January 1994, he was still a formidable opponent and a measuring rod to see how Trinidad would perform against a veteran with vastly more experience.
In making the third defense of his IBF welterweight title, Trinidad, at 21, was ten years younger than Camacho. Yet, the charismatic veteran only had two official losses heading into the fight against the two-handed power-punching Trinidad.
The three-division champion never hurt Trinidad but did test him by forcing the younger fighter to remain focused in every round. Trinidad knew Camacho was waiting to capitalize on any mistake he made. In facing Camacho, Trinidad went the twelve-round distance for the first time in his career. The Puerto Rican showman would be the first to last the distance with Trinidad since Jake Rodriguez did so nine fights earlier.
Of Trinidad's three fights in 1994, the Camacho match was the least memorable; however, it showed a new wrinkle in the young Puerto Rican's game: his ability not to allow gamesmanship and an advantage in experience to impact his performance.
Luis “Yory Boy” Ramon Campas WTKO4
Title Defense #4
September 17, 1994
MGM Grand Las Vegas
Campas Record: 56-0, 50 KOs
Trinidad Record: 23-0, 19 KOs
One of the more underrated battles in the storied boxing rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico was the fight between Trinidad and Yory Boy Campas. It was a match between two of the division's heaviest punchers. At only 23 years of age, Campas had acquired over 50 fights in his short career, securing almost a 90-percent knockout ratio. Trinidad, who had less than half as many fights as Campas, wasn't intimidated in the slightest at Campas' record as the two traded blows from the opening bell.
Trinidad, not known for having the sturdiest chin, especially in the early rounds, displayed remarkable resilience. Whenever he was knocked down, it seemed to invigorate the Puerto Rican, only making him fight in a more determined manner with the goal of getting back at his opponent. In the second round, with what might be considered the smallest little uppercut seen on film, Campas dropped Trinidad on the seat of his trunks. It was the first official knockdown for Trinidad as a world champion.
In the third and fourth rounds, Trinidad unleashed a wave of attacks to the body and head, delivered with deadly accuracy. Trinidad's propensity to stray to the body in combination cost him a point from referee Richard Steele, but nothing was going to deter the Puerto Rican at that point. With less than 30 seconds left in the fourth round, Trinidad sent Campas to the ropes with a barrage of punches. One of which snapped the Mexican's head back, leaving him with a broken nose. It was a miracle he was able to stay on his feet as the Referee waved the fight off. At the time of the stoppage, Trinidad was down on two of the three judges' scorecards.
Trinidad's ability to recover from knockdowns became a staple of his career, yet what goes overlooked is the technique with which he delivered his punches. As much as power can be nurtured on the heavy bag or seemingly comes naturally to fighters, it's the technique in which the punches are thrown that can yield the most power. The way in which Trinidad threw his left hook and right hands was with his feet almost always in the proper placement as he threw from his hips. The victory over Campas is one of the highlights of Trinidad's welterweight title reign, showcasing his technical prowess and precision.
Oba Carr WTKO8
Title defense #5
December 10, 1994
Estadio de Beisbol, Monterrey
Oba Carr Record: 32-0, 20 KOs
Trinidad Record: 24-0, 20 KOs
In another fight with a fellow young and undefeated welterweight, Trinidad's fight with Oba Carr was highly anticipated. Carr, an amateur standout out of the Kronk Gym training under the late great Emanuel Steward's tutelage, was considered one of the welterweight division's next stars.
Following the same script as many of Trinidad's most famous victories, Carr's hand speed overwhelmed the Puerto Rican in the first few rounds. Carr dropped Trinidad in the second round with a perfectly placed right hand on the chin.
Like those before and after, the knockdown only seemed to wake Trinidad from his slumber. Trinidad rose and would systematically break down Carr over the next several rounds. After two knockdowns from Trinidad in the eighth round, the fight was over.
"The message is clear: don't wake up Trinidad by knocking him down in the second round," Ring Magazine's Bruce Williams said after the bout.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Highlighting Trinidad's 1994 wasn't a way to argue for him to have been awarded the Fighter of the Year. That award went to Roy Jones Jr from Ring Magazine, who defeated James Toney in what is considered his greatest victory, and George Foreman from the BWAA, who regained the heavyweight title with his upset win over Michael Moorer.
Instead, it's a glimpse into what is missing and still remains in today's boxing world. Trinidad wasn't able to capture the momentum of his 1994 and translate it into significant fights due to multiple fallouts and lawsuits with his promoter, Don King. It wasn't until 1999 that Trinidad became a household name with his fights against an aging Pernell Whitaker and Oscar De La Hoya.
Yet, compared to the current IBF welterweight champion, Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, and one of the previous holders of the title, Errol Spence, Trinidad's reign at welterweight flourished more despite having promotional issues. At the same age as Ennis, Trinidad amassed 15 title defenses compared to the handful the Philadelphia fighter has garnered. Trinidad fought inside and outside the ring for his chance to be relevant and recognized.
Ennis and others still have time, but they must be willing to fight and seize the opportunities, not wait for one to cross their path. All three of Trinidad's fights in 1994 were fought on the undercard of Julio Cesar Chavez in the heyday of Don King PPV's. The willingness to stay active in order to get exposure is sometimes missing in today's boxing landscape. At this point, it's beating a dead drum. Today's fighters simply won't step in the ring as often, but the desire to prove themselves, like Trinidad did, shouldn't be lost.

'Unfinished business': What NSW must do now after apology
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/unfinished-business-what-nsw-must-do-now-after-apology/
'Unfinished business': What NSW must do now after apology
On Thursday (June 6), Premier Chris Minns gave a formal apology on behalf of the NSW government for historical convictions of LGBTQ+ people in the state. With parliamentary debate on MP Alex Greenwich’s Equality Bill to come, more than two dozen LGBTQIA+ organisations have signed the following community statement.
In 1984 our love was finally decriminalised. Our brave elders walked out of the bars and into the streets to make this possible.
Ten years on, in 1994, we were mourning a generation, many of them young gay men, lost to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
But our community organisations grew, and we learnt to work together for our own safety, health and happiness, particularly as those who were supposed to protect us let us down (as a Special Commission of Inquiry would much later find).
We carried whistles to ward off attackers and the Dykes on Bikes kept us safe as we learnt to celebrate our resilience and pride through the grief and fear marking the times.
The 90s would mark the beginnings of significant law reform – the first recognition of transgender identities and later all our relationships.
Within twenty years, by 2004, too many same-sex partners being ignored by hospital bedsides had led to our relationships finally being recognised by law, and an equal age of consent.
Three decades later, by 2014, many of our kids were legally recognised as part of our families. A scheme was also introduced to wipe old criminal records that should never have been crimes.
Now, in 2024, so much has changed.
We can marry thanks to the millions who stood with us, having come with us on the journey of acceptance and understanding for over forty years.
And earlier this year – with welcome bipartisanship across our NSW Parliament – those who seek to harm us, by attempting to change or suppress who we are, were the ones finally outlawed.
But many would be surprised to know that gay and trans teachers and students can still be legally fired or expelled from private schools. Trans people are denied ID that matches their identity unless they have invasive surgery that many can’t access or may not want. And not all of our families are recognised.
These issues are among the unfinished business of our times.
On this historic fortieth anniversary, on behalf of the communities we are proud to call our own, we thank those who have marched with us, voted for us and stood up for us.
As you deliver this historic and gracious apology, we now call on the NSW Parliament to honour the bravery of our rainbow elders and make it better for the next generation by also finishing the unfinished business of 1984.
Let’s make 2024 the year that NSW finally removes all the remaining discrimination facing LGBTIQ+ people in our laws.
Signed,

Wolfgang Tillmans:  Adam
Wolfgang Tillmans
Trabalho

The Panavia Tornado multifunctional combat aircraft has been in service in the Italian Air Force for 40 years and so a celebration took place at Ghedi Air Base, where a specially painted Tornado was also presented to the public.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next year, the Italian Air Force will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its foundation. But this year the celebration goes to the Panavia Tornado multifunctional combat jet has been in service in the armed forces for 40 years and was acquired by Italy to complement the Lockheed F-104S Starfighter.
Tumblr media
Deliveries to Aeronautica Militare units began in 1982 when the 154th Gruppo of the 6th Stormo (Squad) at the Ghedi base near Brescia received the first fighter of this type (registration: MM7006/Code 6-01).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over the years, the Italian Air Force has received 100 Tornadoes, including 88 Tornado IDS and 12 training biplaces. In the Italian armed forces, the aircraft bears the designation A-200A/C or TA-200A/B. Between 1992 and 1994, 16 Tornado IDS were converted into Tornado ECR for electronic warfare.
youtube
Italy still has 38 Tornadoes in active service with the Italian Air Force and are deployed by the 102° Gruppo, 154° Gruppo, 155° Gruppo and 156° Gruppo. However, his days are numbered, since the service acquired the Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II as the successor to the Panavia Tornado.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Italian Air Force celebrated the anniversary of the Tornado service on September 8, 2022 with a ceremony at the Ghedi base in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Aeronautica Militare, pilots, navigators and old and active experts.
Tumblr media
The highlight of the ceremony was the overflight of ten Tornadoes, including the Tornado ECR (MM7059, Code 6-66), which was painted especially for the occasion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The special painting presents the four different painting finishes of the Italian Tornados, starting with the white and red painting of the X-586 and X-587 prototypes, passing through the two-tone gray-green discreet painting and the color used in the Desert Shield operation of the First Gulf War to the current light gray color scheme.

Asexual History in Welsh
Taken from the @Llyfr_Enfys twitter !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Image ID: A twitter thread from dark mode, the text reads when put together:
Let's take a walk through history shall we? As it's asexual week, let's have a look at something curious I came across in a RadioCymru recording from the 90s I listened to. If it is as I suspect, then we have a lot of history to repair, retrace and restore. #anrhywiol #lgbtcymru
A short asexual history (global) starts in 1896, when Magnus Hischfeld in a pamphlet writes of people who have no sexual desire, dubbing them 'anaethesia sexual'. The following year in 1897 Emma Trosse defines Sinnlichkeitslosigkeit (a kind of a-sensuality) and includes herself under that designation. By 1953, the Kinsey Scale had begun to use an X to represent nonsexual individuals on the scale. The Asexual Manifesto is published in 1972. All of this culminating into an interesting timeline for asexuals in Wales affected by these events.
The timeline of Welsh asexual history runs thus: In an 1986 Cennad cylchgrawn y Gymdeithas Feddygol medical magazine issue, asexuality is mentioned for the first time as a human sexuality in Welsh. This appears to be as a result of a 1983 paper on asexuality (the 1st) being published by Paula Nurius. It isn't known if asexuality had been referenced in Welsh before then, as it was formerly used as in asexual reproduction, but it looks like global scientific study influenced Welsh speaking scientists enough to include it in Y Gymdeithas Feddygol.
"Dyfernir, ar y naill law, ei fod yn fwy cyffredin yn y garfan ddibriod ac anrhywiol ac ar y llall..." - p7 describes cancer being more or less common in certain groups, asexual people amongst them.
By the 1990s, asexuality was becoming more and more known. The early internet allowed asexuals to connect easier than ever before. Which brings me to the RadioCymru recording. Around 8:50 minutes in, the lesbian speaking on the phone mentions asexuality. " Pobl anrhywiol".
This means that this is the 2nd oldest mention of asexuality I found in Welsh! Closely followed by a mention in the Hippocrene Standard Dictionary – Welsh-English English-Welsh by H. Meurig Evans, 1993. In 1994 Anthony Bogaert found in a study that 1/100 people are asexual.
