presenting...the Lady Tigra Collection - a collaboration between me & @sims4bradshaw 🐅

this collection is a homage to black hoochie culture and freaknik aesthetics of the 1990s/early 2000s. it was like a dream come true to finally make a maxis match version of such iconic hairs like the one worn by natalie desselle-reid’s character in the iconic movie, B.A.P.S. (1997). in-depth details are below and i hope y’all like what we made! <3

for this collection, i created 3 updos and a nail set: swing my way, freak like me, natalie baps, and my boo nails. the swing my way updo is a simple updo with a curly bun atop of the head and single curl framing the face while the freak like me updo is a longer version but with hair down the back. the natalie baps updo consists of double curly buns with a curly strand underneath each bun. the my boo nails are a 90s-inspired french tip nail set with 11 swatches for 4 different skin color options. the leopard print swatches were designed by sims4bradshaw while i did the rest. it’s my first time making nails so pls keep that mind as the quality is especially low in game when viewing them up close. sorry!

Black Femininity: Princesses, Bombshells & Dolls {Part 1}

Black American Princess 👑

A Black American Princess or BAP was originally used to refer to a girl of African-American descent who grew up in a middle or upper class family. Growing up BAPs usually attended high society social organizations such as Jack and Jill clubs, debutante balls and sororities. Due to their privileged background they were used to having the best and never settling; this sometimes came with (or some might perceive as) a spoiled or materialistic demeanor. Eventually this term has expanded to include successful Black American women regardless of their background.

The 1997 cult classic, B*A*P*S stars Halle Berry and Natalie Desselle (aka Nisi and Mickey) as two Black women who come from the inner-city with a plan of opening a soul food restaurant/hair salon; the duo travels to California to compete in a dancing contest to win the money for their plan, but end up befriending a wealthy older man who upon his death leaves a portion of his wealth to them, thus becoming BAPs.

A BAP is a girl who takes care of herself and has a taste for the finer things in life like true royalty.

Black/Bronze Bombshells 💣

A Bombshell is a stunningly attractive woman that garners widespread attention and excitement. She is considered a sex symbol. The term was first used in 1931, to describe the first known "Blonde Bombshell", Jean Harlow and remained popular until the 1960s. Even though this term is mostly associated with blonde white women, the most famous of them being Marilyn Monroe; there are some black ones as well.

Joyce Bryant, The Original Bronze Bombshell (aka The Black Marilyn Monroe) was a vibrant actress and singer who gained popularity in the 1940s. She was known for her signature silver hairstyle, which she obtained from not wanting to be upstaged by icon Josephine Baker when they appeared on the same bill; and her hourglass figure she donned in tight mermaid dresses. Her style was bold and independent and sealed her as an icon in her own right.

Bombshells are in every period from Dorothy Dandridge to Pam Grier to Nia Long to Victoria Monet.

Darling Dolls ✨

A doll is an old fashioned term that describes a beautiful woman as a sweetheart.

Burlesque legend Miss Toni Elling, the Satin Doll, who got her stage name from her dear friend Duke Ellington when she inspired his song of the same title. She broke barriers for African-American women in the show business of burlesque entertainment. The Satin Doll was known for carrying herself in a classy and elegant manner and never showing too much; she worked through 1960-1974 and was inducted in the Burlesque Hall of Fame in 2016.

The iconic rapper Nicki Minaj popularized the Black Barbie term through her artistry and fanbase.

BRATZ dolls were the best when it came to having a passion for fashion and were a style guide for young girls.

Tyra Banks starred as a fashion doll that comes to life in the 2000 film, Life-Size.

:D This is an AU where Twilight wakes up in the game Lethal Company, a co-op horror game where you and three others explore random moons, find scrap, fight/avoid a myriad of monsters, and make it back to the ship to sell items to the Company and meet your quota, or else be "terminated." It's kind of a crack taken seriously series, with 17 planned chapters (the first chapter ended up being 4, so... we'll see how that planned chapter list goes).

Here's a snippet from chapter 16!

The transmission blinked on.  “Legend, Legend, we need help! Hyrule and I need help!” Wild’s high voice crackled through the speaker. “There’s—there’s someone in here! Get us out, get us out!” Legend, cursing under his breath, rolled his chair back to the monitor and scrambled to switch from viewing Time to Wild. And sure enough, there was a medium red dot next to Hyrule and Wild’s icons on the screen. They visibly took a few careful steps back, but they were cornered in the kitchen with nowhere to go. The dot loomed, motionless and waiting, by the only door. “What do you mean, someone? Doesn’t look like you’re dealing with a Masked.” Legend started typing very quickly. Lines of the compendium flashed across the screen. “They’re not attacking you, and it’s early in the day, which means that they might not for a good while yet. What do they look like?”  Why was he taking the time to research, when the boys’ lives were in danger? He’s wasting time! Twilight crossed over to the teleporter.  “Uhhh… tall. It’s like a big man in a dark coat, but he’s… it’s not human,” Wild said. A sort of pitchy buzzing echoed through the radio with his voice. “It can’t be human.”

The tags on this series are pretty grim, and rightfully so---this isn't the kind of game that you're able to survive. But we'll see, perhaps, if Twilight can.

This week feels like it has been a hundred years long (not in a bad way). 

Somehow we joined together to balance the seesaw just right so Ava Gardner and Jean Seberg could both go through in the Hot Vintage Lady polls (percentages rounded). Like, I’m wearing the Ava jersey and even I encouraged people to vote Jean when necessary. Honestly, I just wanted to see if it could be done. And it COULD. 

Round three has begun. It is already horrific. This is the first round that’s really going to hurt because we spent the last one really getting down in the dirt and championing our ladies, or learning about actresses we’d never heard of before and getting attached to them. And now? We are reminded: memento mori. Everyone loses but one. 

(I personally pitched in for Sara Montiel. “BUT JUST LOOK AT--” Yeah, I did, thanks.)
