One thing I wished the show would talk about is racism in English Football, esp given how the Richmond team is comprised of mostly Black and Brown players. In real life, 43% of the players in the English Premier League are Black, and despite representing England, Black players are subjected to racist abuse should they fall short of spectacular. The fact that the white footballers are given more screentime and depth in the show is frustrating as fuck. But thats the product of a white writing room I suppose.

Mmm HMM.

I reblogged a Subjectify Media post yesterday that talked about this, and how it would be weird if the show had the crowds heckling Colin for being gay in a way the Black and Brown players and coach never were. It was a post I was deeply upset by because the two fans writing it were being so racist themselves, in a typical queer white fangirl way, while decrying the more obvious racism of football fans. Their take was that it was better that the show not get into spectator heckling at all, for anyone.

Which in and of itself is a valid way to tell a story. I think of my favourite sports anime Yuri on Ice, and how it just gracefully sidestepped into an AU where gay ice skaters are just normal and unremarkable and there is no homophobia at all.

It would be a logistically easier storytelling choice to limit the portrayal of bigotry to interpersonal interactions within the professional settings of the club. But here's why I know that the show won't.

Because they did already include crowd heckling. Only, the target was (presumed) straight, white man Ted Lasso. Ted is the only one we see getting yelled at by the crowd. And even though its the extremely tame insult of 'wanker', which gets cutely diffused into a term of affection, we see Ted reacting to being yelled at by the crowd with the beginnings of a panic attack.

So Ted Lasso faces the gauntlet of a hostile crowd, and pulls through it and wins them over through charm and shape-based jokes, and not once does he ever think that anyone around him might be facing hostility as bad or worse.

When I say the show gaslights fans of colour, its not just because we seem delusional for assuming that racist things are happening to characters of colour that the show never shows. The show gaslights us because none of the characters act like those things happen. Nate never says, 'yeah, the first time I was called a Paki I was...", Sam never says, "I never really thought of myself as Black until I moved to England and they were throwing bananas at me". And none of the kind, supportive people around Ted - Keeley, Roy, Rebecca, Leslie, Beard - tell him to put his heckling into perspective by empathising with what the people of colour around him must be going through.

The AU world that Ted Lasso lives in is where the the worst football heckling happens to a white man.

the fact that Nick Mohammed has not once referenced race or racism in his discussion of the character of himself is yet another example of the harm done by writing and casting that demands actors of colour 'play white' which is what supposed colourblind casting really is.

The fact that Nick Mohammed has to write this post makes me mad. And yet, Nick's situation is sadly not unique, so many actors of colour have to deal with negative fan reaction and harassment from the fandom, and often, they have to deal with it alone. (It's almost akin to a fandom initiation for actors of colour at this point.) I really do hope that the white actors and producers will address this and support Nick regarding this, but based on experience, I'm not holding onto hope.

Michael with 43 weeks but only 2 albums in the 80's is insane. There is a reason why he has two albums in the top five of the best selling albums. One of them being number one. Quality over Quanity.

On average he is doing the best out of all of them by far.

Beatles 111 weeks 14 albums = 7.9 weeks on average

Garth Brooks 50 weeks 7 albums= 7.1 weeks on average

Michael: 43 weeks 2 albums= 21.5 weeks on average

Taylor Swift 42 weeks: 8 albums= 5.25 weeks on average. She should actually be compared to the Beatles or Garth Brooks. MJ achieved his success with less releases but bigger blockbuster albums. Taylor is more like someone who releases alot of smaller albums but then manages to get on top.

If so when it comes to success Adele is much more like him.

I don't have anything else to say besides that the reason why people compares Taylor and him so much is that people want a white person to replace him so desperately. That gotta be the only motivation, because without that explanation, it becomes pointless.

So @icedsodapop and I were DMing about Nick Mohammed, and the amazing multitalented performer that he is, and I said what I really wanted in the inevitable singing episode in season 3 was to see Nathan get to sing.

She asked me which song I thought would work for him, and I said Mr. Cellophane from Chicago. But actually that's the song he should have been allowed to sing in the karaoke episode in season 1 - MISSED OPPORTUNITY, Sudeikis. In season 3 though, I want him to belt out one of those I Want Disney songs. Maybe 'I just can't wait to be king'.

ANyway, here's him playing the character of Mr Swallow, doing Eponine from Les Mis, and I just want everyone to appreciate how he keeping flipping back and forth and back from ridiculous slapstick comedy to genuine moving tragedy. This is what Ted Lasso the show wants to be when it grows up.

We have run out of cooking gas a week ago, and the price of a gas cylinder is about 480 shekels (120 € ), also there’s no flour, it’s bag price is almost (150 €) , no salt - kilo of salt is almost (5€) - , no sugar - kilo of sugar is (9€) .

In addition there is my child’s needs:

-a pack of Pampers for 180 shekels (45€ ),

-3 cans of baby milk per month for 120 shekels (30€ ),

-warm clothes for the child about (100€ ),

-and a plastic cover for the tent to protect us from the rain costs about (200€ ),

I want to buy cleaning materials , such as :

-Bottle of shampoo 80 shekels ( 20€ ).

-2 Kilo of washing powder 140 shekels (36€ ).

-Bottle of dish- washing liquid 50 shekels ( 13€) .

****So i urgently need your help to raise 1000 € more to reach 3500 € by end of Wednesday so that I can go to the market and buy these very necessary supplies.

Note : Now , we are using fire for cooking and baking , and the price of a kilo of firewood is almost (2€ )

The flour we have , contains worms and weevils and is expired.
