Could I get 31 for the kiss meme? Maybe with Vesseek/Wilde or Vesseek/Zolf? Your pick!
Anything for you <3<3
31. A kiss… after a small rejection.
They’ve been staying with Oscar in London for a couple of weeks now. The clutch are making their way across Europe to help with rebuilding where they can, and Vesseek could go join them but…
There’s safety in the familiarity here. Oscar knew Grizzop. He’s one of the few left now that did. That connection means something.
(It means they end up in his bed more often than not.)
Vesseek walks through the halls of his flat (suspiciously wide) and into his kitchen (with strangely low counters) and feela the weight of a presence on their shoulders that they don’t understand. It’s not Grizzop, they know what Grizzop feels like.
It’s different. It’s heavy.
And it’s not just them that it’s weighing down.
They fix themself a meal and put some leftovers in the icebox for if Oscar decides to eat today (they tried to feed him once and he looked at them like they’d punched him, so they’ve not actively tried since). It’s probably a good day to get out of the house and find somewhere to help - Azu offered a role for them at the temple that sounded nice enough.
But... they should stop by Oscar’s office before they go anywhere. He’s not slept. Maybe they can tempt him to bed for another reason and leave once he passes out…
“Ah, Vesseek.”
Oscar's adept at pretending. Grizzop had told them as much in one of the few letters he sent back before everything went so very very wrong. But they’re starting to learn how to see beneath the mask.
“Oscar. You busy?”
He smiles, rests his chin on his upturned palm. “I am. Always.”
“Don’t suppose I can tempt you away?”
It’s the eyes. The face? That doesn’t change. But Oscar’s eyes, they reflect his entire soul, now. Vesseek wonders if he knows. They won’t tell him. They suspect whatever (whoever) caused that to happen wouldn’t be happy if they came back and found it undone.
“I, uh…”
They watch as he takes a letter from on top of his pile of work and folds it, swiftly tucking it into a torn-open envelope.
“I don’t think so.” He says, as soft as anything. “Not today.”
They move across to him, skirting around his big desk and standing at his side. Without speaking, they put their hand on his and squeeze.
“I’m—.”
“It’s okay.” They say. “Honestly,  don’t mind. Plenty to do.”
They submit to him raking his attention over their face, trying to tell if they’re lying to him. Apparently satisfied, he nods and then leans down, Vesseek smiling and lifting their chin.
The kiss is sweet, so they nip at his lip when he pulls back. It works - Oscar chuckles, a warm sound that makes them feel a little better about walking out of the front door and leaving him to his problems.
“I’ll see you later, though?”
Oscar nods. “Oh I’ll be here. If nothing else is certain, darling, that much is.”

❛  what’s  in  it  for  you ?  ❜
meme // accepting.
Tumblr media
He'd been asked this many times since he'd been back in the city. Never really had an answer. He thumbed shells into the shotgun, click, click, click.
When the shit hits the fan, sometimes it's unspoken. Pilot fish swim in the sharks wake. They were all dead. Wet sticky in the dark dusty room. Take the money, he'd said. All of it.
He looked at the guy, adrenaline still burning in his iris, sharp greys, "sport."
They had it wrong, on the streets. This wasn't a play for power, this wasn't moves, this wasn't taking over, or financial responsibility -- the city was on fire, they were running scared, because he'd been alone for too long. Golf club in his hand, wild hair, thick beard, icebox in the cold, marching back and forth, just waiting, twitching, stewing, hoping someone comes for him. And they did. So he was back. And the city was on fire.
Of course it was more complicated than he was letting on. Associates of his dear friends, the guys in that room, he'd known them before, even back then, he wanted to see what their insides looked like.
"Take the cash."

There's a grammatical mistake I've been noticing a lot lately, and I'm wondering if it's some sort of trend or just my brain seeing patterns. It's not uncommon, but I've seen it weirdly often over the last few months.
The mistake is in knowing where to put the end quotation mark when referring to a thing by a phrase. For example, you can't remember William Carlos Williams' name, so you ask "Hey, remind me who wrote the 'plums in the icebox poem' that everyone memes?" It's more accurate to write "plums in the icebox" poem -- "plums in the icebox" is a phrase (or paraphrase) from the poem which you are quoting, and you put it in quotes to indicate that it's being used as an adjective. Same with hyphens, although I haven't seen that as much: "This is my recovering-from-a-breakup-movie" vs. "This is my recovering-from-a-breakup movie." If you hadn't used a phrase, you wouldn't normally connect an adjective to a noun with quotes or hyphens. "Who wrote that 'plum poem'" or "this is my breakup-movie" would both be odd or confusing.
It's a fairly minor error, and it's usually quite clear what you mean. It's just something I keep seeing over and over, and I'm curious if there's a reason for the trend.

POYO! Hello, esteemed and and steamed ones! Today on the cookin bracket is the last jive of the summer from the Redwall Cookbook- a royal wave to the end of the hottest days so far- Summer Strawberry Fizz.
(You may seek the original recipe at the bottom if you’d like to follow along)-
MY NAMES CROSS NOW LETS COOK LIKE ANIMALS
SO, “what goes in to a Summer Strawberry Fizz?” YOU MIGHT ASK
Strawbs
Strawb iced cream
Sugar
And all that stuff is gonna get blended face first;
Seltzer water
With da seltzer water being added after chilling and before serving!
AND, “what does Summer Strawberry Fizz taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASK
Like a hybrid between a snowcone and a smoothie. Like a kiss from a classmate that doesn't come back after summer break.
The more you stir it the more of the tangy-ness seems to come out
It fizzes SO prettily
The big bubbles at the top have small strawb seeds in them :') its cute
Drinking it has roughly the same consistency of a very fine smoothie
This would pair well with any cold sandwich or salad
This would also be a perfect candidate for picnic beverage! Bring a pitcher of this and an icebox to keep it chilled in!
Simple, playful, refreshing
. definition of 'hulling' varies by region, i left the middle intact and only chopped green parts . added another dollop of ice cream for serving . added crushed ice for serving
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Folding gently back into, the silent earth, from which they came.."
- Autumn, The Strawbs
I know people 'starting fall early' is a meme because of liking halloween and a general reaction to the absurdly early time christmas shit gets rolled out, but, the steps towards the colder months have become a tentative one for me. Bracing. Thank you decline in sunlight.
It feels weirdly bittersweet actually making it  ¼ of this project! You know the feeling, I dont know what I'm trying to communicate, but you'll know it.
That aside, the drink itself feels sentimental. Its your grandmas secret recipe handed down through the family, and then you google it and its from the back of a betty-crocker box. Through a type of eye that might seem anti-climatic, but i think a better way of looking at would be to consider that thousands of families share this recipe now- a little string connecting a ramshackle quilt. You're a part of that, yeah?
I give this recipe a solid 8/10 (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again.)
🐁 ORIGINAL RESIPPY TEXT BELOW 🐁

1 cup strawberry ice cream
4 teaspoons sugar
1 cup seltzer water

Dialogue Generator Starter Meme - Accepting
The little girl is shaking like a leaf. Rare are the moments where she’s home alone - sure, she’s lonely, between her mother and her drinks, her father and his mirrors, her grandfather and his television, but she’s not technically alone.
Still, rare does not mean never. Claire has, in fact, been left by herself in the house (in spite of her young age), and she’s very much on edge. The slightest noise makes her shiver, and anything louder than the icebox makes her whimper in fright. Truthfully, she wants to retreat to her mind - where she’s Opal, where she has a lively house and a loving family - but she can’t do that while there’s noises downstairs.
Noises that Claire has convinced herself belong to an intruder.
Hence why she’s sneaking downstairs, bolting for the door - white shoes flying over crumpled papers and cigarette boxes - and racing towards the first person she sees the very moment she clears the front porch.
“There’s someone in the house!”
{ @nurturing-starlight requested Claire and Kenny! }

hi ms emily i was wondering if you had any tips for Critical Litchrature Reading? i did an eng lit a-level a million (5) years ago so i Did know how to read critically but then i did a history degree where i had to read so much boring shit a week that when i have read for pleasure now it’s been stuff that smooths my brain over. which i know isnt always a bad thing! but i’d like to get back into big brain takes i just dont know how? like i tried reading mrs dalloway and i struggled bc subtle writing now makes my brain melt. sorry if youve answered this already and DOUBLY sorry if the answer is literally just ‘practice and experience’
oh this problem is so easily solved!! you’re starting with mrs dalloway, and mrs dalloway is a BIG one to jump right into, that's like trying to decipher Einstein after taking algebra. I'd recommend starting with some poetry, and of course now that I'm trying to think of some every syllabus I've ever written just flew directly out of my head. um. glass essay by Anne Carson. that icebox poem that’s a meme now is like the great Gatsby of poetry, it’s practically created for people learning to read literature. no joke, Richard siken? worth a revisit also. THIS ARTICLE will get your brain juice moving as well.
short stories, try drown, by junot Díaz (sorry, I know, but it’s really good at teaching you how to read). Dubliners, Joyce, specifically the dead, is very good for starting to re-learn. ahhh shit I just thought of one and forgot it. fucking...brownies, zz packer.
for novels, try Jane eyre, wuthering heights, those are less opaque. beloved, 100 years of solitude, slaughterhouse five. WAIT, do slaughterhouse five first. I firmly believe that if you can properly read slaughterhouse five you can read anything. it’s extremely simple and extremely not and very moving and I think maybe the best but least perfect book ever written but that is just me.
THEN go into like, you know, modernism (Woolf, Joyce’s novels, stein), all that. to me modernism is the last hurdle in Getting Literature and the tallest one, or maybe that’s just how my brain works. but you gotta work up to it.
other approaches include: you can pick stuff that sounds interesting and then look up book club and reading questions for them, which is the most accessible way to do this by far. you can get one of those big anthologies of short stories that come with introductory essays in them, which is how we’re taught to close read, and that could set you on the right path. you could supplement this as you keep reading, if you really want to, with like actual real theory (this is what I was taught from in my theory 101 class).
remember that what you need MOST out of this is a fellow player/interlocutor/improvisor, someone who’s read it too and says “yes and” to each of your ideas. the good news is the internet is huge and free and also I am here and also your brain is here. if you see something in a text and youre like, is that a symbol/motif/parallel/whatever, UHHH yeah the fuck it is cuz you just said so! so say “yes and” to yourself while reading, pull on every thread you find.
