The fate of the fawn

absolutely fascinated with how Honey somehow manages to haunt both the narrative AND the players themselves over the course of Icebound

she had such little screentime - barely a full session - and yet she’s their first failure. Unequivocally, Honey’s death acts as the party’s first genuine failure. Not Roland (they couldn’t have saved him if they tried), not the Captain (the Princess of Wrath took that choice from them), but it was Honey that they tried so hard to save and couldn’t.

And then they find Daisy, and she looks so similar, and they do everything they can to save her, because like hell are they going to get both of them killed, and it works!

And it’s so INTERESTING because they never forget about Honey, even when they never talk about her. They named her and they barely ever talk about her. Even in the most recent episodes - when they’ve known Daisy for 10x as long as they ever knew her sister - they’ll still slip up and call Daisy by the wrong name. It’s so painfully obvious that they still blame themselves for her death even when they’re defending themselves to Myelin.

It’s why Barnabos tries so hard to discourage Daisy from travelling with them, and why Jornir constantly reminds her she might die if she leaves her father and the other humans, and why Queenie puts such an emphasis on Honey’s bow.

(It’s also very interesting that Mikey seems to slip up the most and gets the names confused. Man’s HAUNTED haunted)

We never even get to see Honey and Daisy have a conversation - not even in flashbacks - but Honey’s been there the entire time, just off-screen.

Anytime the Icebound party accidentally calls Daisy Honey I feel like I'm being pelted with rocks and Derek is laughing at me. THEY KNEW HONEY FOR ONE NIGHT AND YET SHE IS SO ENGRAINED INTO THEIR MINDS THEY LOOK AT HER YOUNGER SISTER WHO LOOKS LIKE HER AND ACCIDENTALLY SLIP UP DESPITE HAVING BEEN THE ONES TO NAME DAISY. FUCK.

Yknow I think its so funny that we know next to NOTHING about Honey. Like literally nothing, since Daisy never talks about her. I chuckled when Queenie went on the whole rant about Honey being 'sweet' and only saying good things about Daisy when.... how can you know that? After having had a complicated conversation via drawing on the ground and deciphering hand gestures...... only to die that night later........ So im taking it up on my self to write her the complete opposite. With her father gone and no mother in sight, shes bound to have taken the mantle of older sister and be harsh as fuck towards Daisy. Maybe thats why shes so out of tune with her emotions and constantly pushing things down, not even properly mourning her. God knows an older sister will riddle you with guilt. I find Daisys reaction to her death so telling with that perspective

No but picture this for the Mermaid!Daisy Icebound AU

Daisy has been living with the Icebound crew for a while. Idk where, that doesn’t matter, what does matter is that there’s a shore. So every night, Daisy goes to the shore, and chats with Honey, who is still in her mermaid form (the way I tend to interpret mermaids/sirens is that when their lower half is submerged, they’re in their mer-form, but otherwise are in their human form—with the caveat that they can’t speak verbally in this au).

Honey knows a lot about the crew, based on what Daisy tells her. And whenever the topic of Skrimm comes up, Daisy gets all bashful, and so Honey—like an older sister would—starts teasing Daisy for her crush. One day, Honey tells Daisy that Myalin wants her to come back home, and so Daisy agrees to return home for a couple of weeks, to appease their dad.

So she tells the crew (who don’t know she’s a mermaid) that she has to return home for a bit, and they’re all sad ofc, but Skrimm asks her if he could come with her (“I want to meet Honey, she sounds cool with how you describe her.”). Daisy immediately shuts that down, and so Skrimm instead gives her his lucky dice to remember him by (aside from the ring/necklace he had given her previously).

So that night, Skrimm finds himself looking out the window or whatever, and it looks directly at the shore. He notices Daisy, and then all of a sudden he sees her just. Jump in head first.

So he runs out to save her, and when he gets to the shore, both her and Honey’s heads pop out of the water, and Daisy is trying to tell him to go back home. Skrimm asks her what the fuck she’s doing, and Daisy reveals that she’s a mermaid. He asks why she hid this from him, and she confesses that she’s thought they’d cast her out, and Skrimm points out that the entire party are “freaks of nature”, so she’d fit right in.

They go back and forth for a bit, before Honey tells Daisy that they need to go. Daisy says one final goodbye to Skrimm, says that she’ll be back in a couple weeks, and the sisters submerge themselves and start swimming away.

Except Daisy hesitates for a moment, before quickly swimming back to Skrimm, gives him a very quick kiss on the lips, one final “bye” (while she’s flushed and all smiles), shoves something in his hands, and actually swims back home with Honey.

Skrimm looks in his hand, and sees a small daisy earring that Queenie had gotten her a while ago. Skrimm smiles, puts the earring on, and returns back home.
