Thinking about Yorgrim and his fond protectiveness for children. As someone who was virtually parentified at a very young age and never got to fully live the carefree life of a child, Yorgrim's tenderness with children makes me think of someone trying so desperately to hold together the tattered remains of these traumatized childrens' childhoods and allow them for a few moments longer be that small and soft and vulnerable person Yorgrim never got to be. Trying to help them live in that carefree and soft childhood for a little longer.

Tumblr banished Histerria to the content warning realm. They cant handle his sick and parasocially toxic parasitic relationship with an evil brain worm.

Heyyy,,, idk if ypu are still up with the asks but id love to hear a bit about Hissteria! Specifically what inspired you to make the character, i love characters who know the truth but are treated as crazy plus i think mind flayers are pretty spooky…

So at the time, my parameters for making Histerria was the knowledge that I was going to play him in a horror campaign and I wanted to play a spell caster class I had never tried out before since I was and still am pretty much a full caster focused player. I had tried warlock, I was playing cleric at the time, and Unearthed Arcana just released the Aberrant Mind subclass which instantly had me locked in.

At the time, I was listening to a lot of kind of weird songs. I think every song I listened to at the time of conceptualizing Histerria actually made it to his playlist so here's a small taste of that

Most importantly were the songs by The Paper Chase (I'm not linking them in this post cause the album cover is potentially triggering but the most important song is "We Will Make You One of Us") which had audio recordings of a caller to a radio station trying to warn of a potential government conspiracy and an alien or creature invasion incurring. So I was like "Oh, someone who knows about some kind of impending doom but nobody believes them is so retro alien abduction horror." And then I was like oh, if Mindflayers aren't well known or known of at all in this world we're playing in, Mindflayers would sound exactly like aliens. Also! A super SUPER important factor in my character creation was I was just getting back into rereading Animorphs again after many years having it shelved. I was inspired by the Yeerk invasion where they were planting aliens into people's brains to try and make them hosts to amass an army to take over the world. I was like oh, Mindflayer larva could do that. So, with those two inspirations Histerria and their unfortunate brain stem companion were born.

I love Histerria because due to circumstances I won't explain rn, Histerria's body and mind are actively fighting against allowing the larva to mature and grow. Also, the larva is pulling a Sopholith from Icebound and wanting to become top dog Elder Brain so the two are in this situation where the larva cannot grow, but it psychologically and physiologically tortures Hiss by messing with his mind and body through tapping into his brain and forces them to do things for it like a puppet. It's a very weird parasitic relationship that turns codependent. It's fucked up and bad for them lol.
