it somehow twines together relationship dynamics from sunseeker, wolfstar, and andreil.
even though i've never read it, I know it is vaguely reminiscent of art heist baby simply by theme
icarus and Helios were literally born for each other everyone pls read this I am begging you

Greek Mythology Fans I have a Question
This being in regard to different types of art depicting Icarus and the Sun lovers
I promise this has nothing to do with my book (wink wink)

do you think that helios felt remorse for icarus’ death? that on some level he felt responsible for it? was he responsible for it? you cannot call it a fault for him to remain unwavering to a mortals desires. that is his place, and he stayed in it. and so did icarus. he did what we humans are all meant to do; he wanted and wanted and wanted and it killed him. one would suppose that maybe no one was at fault, save for the inevitable discord of the universe

Icarus and Helios, a Dirk Gently AU 💛
(Sorry for the poor English)
In the 80s, in Romania, a baby was born with wings, making him look like a cherub. Since he was an orphan, he was taken (abducted) by the CIA at the age of 4 to be studied as some very unique phenomenon. Turned out that there was more kids born with strange anomalies this year so they created a secret CIA division called BlackWing (in reference to that first boy dark wings) to study all those “anomalous entities” and potentially use them.
The Romanian kid was called “Project Icarus” and for decades they tried to teach him to fly. But so far he was more prone to fall than to actually fly (hence the name Icarus).
Generally, the anomalous entities were tested separately and never met, to avoid any problems (some of them having dangerous abilities). They were all locked into an underground facility where there was rooms to study, to be tested on, or train their abilities… Some areas being dedicated to some of the most dangerous entities with bigger security and surveillance.
One day around his 30s, Project Icarus heard someone trying to talk through the ventilation of his room. A person was now occupying the fire proof room which was opposite of his.
That new occupant, “project Helios”, had recently arrived in that area of the BlackWing’s facility bc his ability of creating and manipulating fire was becoming too hard to control and the division just locked him in the best fire proof room they had..
The two men started to communicate regularly through the vent line connecting their rooms and slowly built a strong relationship (they were each other’s first friend).
Ofc they were closely observed the whole time by BlackWing, which decided to have them meet in person. The only condition being that Project Icarus had to fly if he wanted to see his friend more often.
They soon realised that Project Helios could control himself better when in the presence of his friend and radiated intense warmth which was actually helping Project Icarus to hover in the air long enough to manage to fly.
So they decided to keep the duo together, their compatibility being undeniable.
After a few months of training them together, they finally let them out of the BlackWing facility to work for the CIA. So they could help the BW division find and catch other anomalous entities that were starting to be more numerous and out of control.
They gave them new names, Project Icarus became Dirk Gently (he insisted for the last name) and Project Helios became Todd Brotzman…

[Icarus & Apollo doodles]
Okay OKAY hear me out beforr yall flip ship in any way shape or form
I've said this before but my depictions of greek gods/myths are NOT accurate and I have a lot of fun with them and change a LOT of stuff (such as Helios basically being Apollo's uncle and the basically adopting him bc that's definitely not accurate to the myths LMAO)
So my Icarus was a young adult (probably around like 19-21) in this version, and he was ofc infatuated with the sun when he took flight. Ifc the wax melted (the stuff in his back is actually burns and leftover wax!) But when Helios saw him fall he was curious and saved him from death, but in USUAL greek myth style, he did basically kidnap Icarus and never give him back to his father. But Icarus isn't horribly upset because Helios is the sun he was so desperate to fly too close to (and Helios is slightly surprised and unsettled by how content Icarus is with him)
They can be seen as platonic or romantic!! I will always be drawing them in some vaguley confusing manner, as is most greek art as well..

i think orpheus and icarus are one in the same in the sense that they were both given tasks that the universe(/gods) knew they could not fulfill. orpheus loved eurydice too much to not turn around and icarus yearned for freedom too much to not fly too high. is it fair to call icarus’ love for true freedom hubris when orpheus’ wish to return eurydice to him was equally, if not more, defiant towards the gods? is it fair to call icarus selfish when orpheus’ tale is seen as nothing but love and tragedy, not deluded hubris for the laws of the world?

I doubt it was intentional in borderlands 1's case but the symbolism of Helios being Pandora's sun in the second one will NEVER fail to make me stand in horrific silence for extended periods of time.
You can't see the sun from Pandora's surface. It isn't there. An oppressive invisible heat that plagues the dirt and kills anything good that tries to thrive under it. It scorches Pandora, leaving it a desolate wasteland filled with beasts we have no conception of and brutal killers who walk the streets praised for their effort. But you can't see it.
But Helios. Helios is visible. A god among space it's the only thing that is visible in Pandora's sky. The first thing you see when you look to the sky.
In BL1 there isn't a sun, you can't see it. There's light, there's shadows, but there isn't a sun. This continues throughout every Pandora based game afterward, leaving only Helios in place of what should be there.
And that imagery is so so good.
Jack is the sun. An overbearing heat that kills any living thing it sees. A scalding plight on Pandora that scalds it's sands and the backs of it's occupants. A burning, bursting star above the rest that dies with an explosion of heat and violence.
That's why him and Lilith are such good enemies. Such good parallels to each other. Fire beating fire, neither can win, only make the problem worse and it's perfect.
Even in the end, when Lilith scarified herself to save Pandora, it still left that mark. That searing brand of her existence that causes Pandora's drought, their hunger, their need to fester.
It's so good and I never stop thinking about it.

𖤓 hi, i’m jupiter <3
𖤓 i’m fourteen (14) years old
𖤓 any pronouns (i’m genderfluid)
𖤓 worship - Lord Apollo and Lady Aphrodite
𖤓 pray to/sometimes worship - Lord Dionysus and Lord Hermes
𖤓 worshipping soon - Asclepius, Eros, Helios, (if i’m going to start hero worship) Icarus, Achilles, and Hyacinthus
𖤓 i plan to be a devotee of Lord Apollo soon (because i personally think of worshipping and devoting as two different things), but i have to work everything out in my life first
𖤓 i’ve been a hellenic polytheist for around 10 months (i started back in march), so i’d still consider myself new. so please, if you know better than i do and have more experience, correct me. i’m still young, i’m still beginning, i’m still learning, and i’m very happy to learn <3
𖤓 unfortunately i don’t post consistently, so sorry y’all :( maybe i’ll post more often soon??
