I feel like a huge part of his character's motivation is that he wanted people to respect and like him. He wanted to be looked up to, seen as a hero. He felt like if he was famous, he'd finally be safe from the ridicule and abuse he'd been facing since he was far, far too young.

Which is why it kind of breaks my heart a little that even after his ultimate betrayal, even after he gave up everything, he still isn't. Nobody at the Institution seems to respect him. He is talked down to by the Director, nobody in the public seemed particularly charmed by him anymore, the moment he's demoted all his fellow knights/guards start talking to and treating him like shit which implies they never really respected him to begin with.

I imagine he had this big dream of being a pillar in the community and being looked up to and respected, seen as an inspiration for kids like him, homeless, hungry, frightened children without futures. Only to be regarded as a pompous symbol of a bygone era.

(Surprised this hasn’t been done, from what I’ve seen).

It was going to be amazing to just let it all loose! Get payback for all the hardship and people who wanted to drive a sword through them! Nimona's face splits into a cheshire grin

❝ Now we are FUCKING talking! ❞ She exclaims as dragon wings already to morph out from behind her. Letting go, allowing for their body to shapeshift out and take on a much larger pinker form was the best feeling in the whole world.

❝ Several roasty toasty everything coming up! LETS GO! ❞ She roars and than Nimona is lifting off into the sky as a giant pink dragon.

“Hmmmmm…” Pentious leans back a touch, idly looking over the grinning, eager teenager that was all but bouncing with sadistic excitement in front of him like she was about to explode. He couldn’t help but admit that such enthusiasm was quite contagious, and he too was already growing a grin over his lips as he thought about a potential use for her very potent abilities. He had to admit, it was refreshing to see someone so eager to embrace proper villainy.

Then, finally, he snaps his fingers, his hood spreading wide as he spreads his arms in a sweeping gesture, his voice becoming a mighty boom throughout the cockpit of his airship. “How about…A dragon? To take to the skies and burn down all you see into ashes? Listen to the SCREAMSSSSS of the weak and cowardly damned as they are reduced to charred corpses in the wake of your flames?”
