my singular gripe with the magnus archives is that there’s never a statement that explores fears around the cold. there’s never a statement about the suffocation of snow and the isolation of winter as looking out over the landscape and seeing a wasteland of white. nothing about that kind of slow, agonizing death that you’re aware of the entire time. no tie in with the dark or the buried or the lonely. alexander j newall i can tell you are from a place that does not freeze

Hey friends, let’s make a list of queer media that doesn’t do harmful bullshit tropes! I’ll start:

- Yuri on Ice. It’s just pure wholesome fluff. There’s no homophobia, the main conflict is caused by gay people not knowing how to talk to each other and everything ends happily. The worst thing the happens to anyone is the main character’s dog dies off screen before the first episode. There’s some fatphobia in the first two episodes but that’s really the only issue I have with it.

- The Magnus Archives. For spooky season! Some queer folks die but it’s never in a ‘bury your gays’ kind of way. Lots of great queer characters, including an asexual main character which delights me immensely! Does NOT have a happy ending and has buckets of content warnings, but nothing related to homophobia or any kind of queerphobia. No horror related to sexual assault either. It’s oddly safe horror, despite all the shit that happens. It feels respectful to the audience.

- literally almost any D&D actual play. Critical Role? NADDPOD? The Adventure Zone? D20? Rusty Quill Gaming? All have tons of queer characters that are treated respectfully. One character in campaign 1 of Critical Role had a homophobic parent, but aside from that I can’t think of another example of homophobia being a feature in any of these stories. Some queer folks die, but it’s D&D, so they usually get better. Usually.

Things on my mind.

It's a pretty classical trope that people don't tend to be as horny as they age. Train of thoughts has its flaws, of course, but for all intents and purposes it is a trope indeed. How many times have you seen described someone's adventurous youth, promiscuous past, wild early years?

As well, people who have stuff to hide. People who try, and mostly succeed, in projecting a boring middle manager vibe.
