#ia yukari duet

Because the song was released today, I need to talk about one of my favourite Vocaloid duet ever. If my friends don't associate me with this song, then I'm clearly doing something wrong. /hj
The song? 'Ice breaker' by NejishikiP featuring Yuzuki Yukari & IA, which is now 5 years old!!
youtube
Gonna be rambling a lot, so more under the cut! It's going to mostly be about my feelings towards the song itself and my personal interpretation of its meaning! It's stupidly long because there's just so many things I love about this song so sorry in advance dfgfnhfg
Firstly, my feelings towards 'Ice breaker' overall!
While this wasn't my first Nejishiki song I listened to, after finding his channel, I quickly became invested in Nejishiki's music for a number of 5 things:
Nejishiki mainly uses Yuzuki Yukari, one of my favourite Vocal Synths of all time.
He also uses IA, another Vocal Synth I love.
His songs are mainly composed on the jazzier side, specifically jazz fusion and electro swing. I heavily lean towards jazz music, which, combined with Yukari, is meant for jazz music, this means automatic interest for me.
When it comes to duets, he often uses YukaIA. I am a huge YukaIA shipper.
One of his main themes in his music is yuri. And I fucking love yuri.
And before anyone tries to prove me wrong about Nejishiki shipping YukaIA, I need you all to know that this is in the description in English.
I'm not musically talented to really talk about the musical aspects of the song. But just listening to it, there's something that just sounds like "desire", which I feel fits the song well.
Secondly, my personal interpretation of the song.
I don't know any Japanese and I have to heavily rely on translations (the ones on Youtube and the one on the Wiki are somewhat different, but I'll be referencing to both). I also tend to miss notable details in the MV (which is a shame because I really enjoy Danjou Sora's MVs), so there might be a lot of things that I could be missing about the song's meaning. (As I'm writing this, I'm going back and forth between typing and watching the MV.)
How I see this song, I always knew that YukaIA love each other here. But it's not exactly what's considered a "typical" romantic relationship. From they are portrayed in the song, they seem to have a "friends with benefits" type of relationship where they only see each other for. Specific reasons. But with the lyrics, it feels like that they want more than that. They want to actually be together and date without just being together for sex.
The title seems to add to that. An 'ice breaker' is often referred to a thing where people do activities (play games, starting a conversation, etc) so it can "break the tension" between people. It is also a drink. In the song, it seems to refer to the drink with the Wiki translated line of 'Your tears fall into the glass and become a bittersweet cocktail of sorrow' but I think it refers to both. It feels that YukaIA haven't exactly "broken the ice" between them and with the lines 'when will we see each other again? weeping and crying', they only see each other for one purpose.
One of my favourite details in the MV is the line 'mousou wa kumo no ito' at 1:24 and 3:34, which roughly translates to 'delusion is a spiderweb'. In those moments, a thin thread snaps as if to say "the thin thread holding onto reality is broken easily".
I'm not the best as these kinds of things, so I could be wrong about these things. If anyone has any interpretations about the song, please let me know!
Overall, please, please, please listen to the original! It just recently reached a million views last year (and last year, I listened to this song at least 100 times a day to help get it there /hj), it's criminally underated. There are so many human covers that are more popular than it, and while human vocals aren't bad (I listen to utaites as much as I listen to Vocal Synth music on a daily basis!) It's the kind of song where there will be hundreds of covers, but the original itself isn't popular. And as someone who cherishes the original, it's quite saddening. So please, listen to this song as many times possible today!
Sorry, this is such a messy rambling that I wish was more organized and more well written. I have so many feelings for this song and I'm not the best with these kinds of things. (maybe I'll clean this up in the future fdgfndbg)

yukari songs...
MATA SETSUNAI SEKAI WO IKIRU'S SATSUGAI....... BELOVED. i love the softness of yukari and the whole concept of killing going beyond just the murder u might immediately think of & i love the train crossing bells & pretty noises & whatevers in the background in some parts that (to me) is reminiscent of dragging a rubber eraser across a desk really fast, but tasteful & musically. also holy shit does yukari go High Pitch in places. love it. (also. just for u. this produced almost exclusively uses yukari & has a wide style range i recommend checking out their other works if u have time)
idk how to choose a fave from sheeno mirin so i'll just go with osint. maybe its cheating since its not Just yukari but she has her solo part & i like & thats what matters.
also really like ika musume hunter's rentica. yukari ia duet..... the songs sweet & the art is SO cute what more do i need.
and seleP's story teller. its neat & fun. to me.
#asks#zinziinziiin#yukari..... everyone should love yukari. theres nothing to dislike about her#maybe im forgetting something but these are the ones in my playlist that i go to most so

hrmmm le vocaloid ask game... let's go with yukari
LET'S GOOO i wanted to talk about yukari
this isn't related to the ask but i wanted to say i own yukari's hoodie in real life. it's not the highest quality but i got it when i was 14 and it's a precious article of clothing for me. somehow despite being 23 now i still fit in it. i had to talk about this before i started talking about yukari i'm sorry. i can't find a picture of it rn and it's downstairs and i don't wanna get up but let it be knownJSDFKSFD ANYWAYS
favorite song: i died to someone's song/誰かの歌で僕が死ぬ by 36g! it is not the most polished vocaloid song, far from it, and it's rough around the edges but i got really attached to it when i was younger and for some reason it's just never left me. i love its roughness and awkwardness in full (honorable mention to cruel and pure by nejishiki because i am all about that mirror image shit babey!! and dueting two different software voicebanks of the same character is so cool)
youtube
ships: this sounds random but hear me out. flower. but specifically flower talk. why you may ask, do i ship flower talk and yukari (the vocaloid). WELL. there's this artist i used to be OBSESSED with (they dont draw vsynth that much anymore but their new art is still great!) and they drew this image of yukari and flower talk and that's it. sold immediately. i have never looked back i would die for them. this image still makes me so emotional FUCK AHHHSDFJfsdk
in childhood i shipped yukari with IA and mayu (sometimes as a poly, sometimes separately) and i still really like those ships too :]
favorite part of design: i genuinely think yukari (her original vocaloid design) has like. one of the best designs out of any vsynth period. there's just something about her man it's so good. obvious choice but my fav part is the hoodie. love the ears lmao
random headcanon: yukari doesn't smile often to the point where it's like. a privilege to have yukari smile around you. she's insecure about it and just naturally doesn't smile often in the first place so if she smiles at something you say or do, she probably really trusts you and is in a Really good mood

What are 10 things you'd like to fix in your favorite video games?
In Project Diva X I’d very much like to remove the fact that modules and gifts are random drops because that fucking sucks and I hate it.
In DRv3 I’d tone down the murders and executions so they aren’t stupid gorey
In DRv3 I’d want the plot and some of the characters improved
In DRv3 I’d remove the character Tsumugi Shirogane
In Future Tone I would own the game and be able to play it
In Project Mirai I’d change the song selection a bit because it’s really mediocre overall
in the Project Diva/Future Tone series I’d love to see Yuzuki Yukari duets in them like Gumi gets, but I think we’d get IA before we’d get Yukari. :’c (Though Yukari would be after IA I think)
In Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons I’d like better attention span so I could actually get through more than one year in the game
In Rune Factory WE’D GET A RUNE FACTORY 5
In Code:Realize Van Helsing would be a more compelling character

Hey everyone! So recently I've been going back through my posts in order to make a better ordered list for myself of what songs I've already featured, and because of that, I also started putting together some information about what Vocaloids and Producers have been featured on this blog the most so far! It was fun putting this together, so I figured I'd post the information as a little end-of-the year style thing!
Some of the exact numbers may be sliiiightly off, but they should be pretty close. And the numbers here are up to date through the song posted today (December 31st).
I'm hoping to start doing this as an annual thing, with updates to the rankings at the end of the year.
Also: as a quick secondary update- I have decided that this blog will start to feature songs using vocal synths of any kind, not just Vocaloid-specific songs. I still intend for Vocaloid characters to make up the majority of songs featured here (and I currently have a long queue lined up that still has only Vocaloids in it), but I will start to add other synths into the mix, and song suggestions are now open for solos featuring non-Vocaloid synths!
Anyway, without further ado: the rankings!
VOCALOIDS
