Helping Neuroslug help me
Admittedly it took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out and start using inpainting, but now that I've had a taste of it my head is spinning with possibilities. And so I'm making this post to show the process and maybe encourage more artists to try their hand at generating stuff. It really can can be an amazing teammate when you know how to apply it. For those who didn't see my first post on this, I've trained an AI on my artworks, because base Stable Diffusion doesn't understand what anthropomorphic insects are. That out of the way, here we go:
Tumblr media
I noticed that a primarily character focused LoRA often botches backgrounds (probably because few images of the dataset have them) so I went with generating a background separately and roughly blocking out a character over it in Procreate. Since it was a first experiment I got really generous with proper shading and even textures. Unsurprisingly, SD did it's job quite well without much struggle.
Tumblr media
Basically masked out separate parts such as fluff, skirt, watering can, etc. and changed the prompt to focus on that specific object to add detail. There were some bloopers too. She's projecting her inner spider.
Tumblr media
Of course it ate the hands. Not inpainting those, it's the one thing I'll render correctly faster than the AI does. Some manual touchups to finish it off and voila:
Tumblr media
The detail that would have taken me hours is done in 10-20 minutes of iterating through various generations. And nothing significant got lost in translation from the block out, much recommend. But that was easy mode, my rough sketch could be passed off as finished on one of my lazier days, not hard to complete something like that. Lets' try rough rough.
Tumblr media
I got way fewer chuckles out of this than I expected, it took only 4-5 iterations for the bot to offer me something close to the sketch.
Tumblr media
>:C It ate the belly. I demand the belly back. Scribble it in...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Much better. Can do that with any bit actually, very nice for iterating a character design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Opal eyes maybe?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lol
Tumblr media
Okay, no, it's kind of unsettling. Back to red ones. Now, let's give her thigh highs because why not?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It should be fancier. Give me a lace trim.
Tumblr media
Now we're talking. Since we've started playing dress-up anyway, why not try a dress too. Please don't render my scribble like a trash bag. I know you want to.
Tumblr media
Phew
Tumblr media
I crave more details.
Tumblr media
Cute. Perhaps I'll clean it up later. ... .. . SHRIMP DRESS

Trembling Essence:💙Background + poll results💙
Tumblr media
Hello hello and welcome new followers! :]
Firstly I just want to say a very big thank you to everyone that participated in the poll I did last week, I was really surprised but happy with the results and responses! This will help me a lot moving forward! :,] If you missed it and would like to say which route you preferred feel free to comment!
Anywho, this week mainly focused on art practicing again but I did work on the game and managed to get my bearings even more!
Here is the new background for the start of the game:
Tumblr media
This took a long time to draw up since I sketched out the background instead of looking at references this time. Once I got a basic idea of how I wanted it to look it felt.. too empty and flat. At first I couldn't figure out why until I added more shrubbery and grass. After that I started adding the trees and then added a few more to give it depth and adjusted some of the coloring. So far the immersive symbolism I'm going for is slowly coming together! Since it just finished raining where you're located I tried to give the background the illusion of looking tolerably humid but slowly getting colder over time with a hint of decay in the distance. This is a better look of the dreary foreboding atmosphere compared to the "fairy-forest" from last week. >:,] It took a while but I also added a parallax effect here and optimized the images to save space. I kept getting an error when it came to the middle ground so I had to find and fix the problem which delayed things. I don't have a video to show it in action but maybe next time. I do want it to be known again that these automatically happen and don't follow the cursor. :,,]
Here's a sneak peek of the new choices you can do when you're in this area now. >;]
Tumblr media
This part required a lot of brainstorming before I figured out how I wanted the explorative part to go. This was originally going to go a different way completely but a particular day caused me to just scrap it and start everything over. I have a very solid idea on how I want all of this to go better than ever so I can't wait to show some of the new areas! I didn't expect this background to take as long as it did to draw up but hopefully next week I'll have more done!
Progress doodle layout:
Tumblr media
Since certain endings are being changed I thought it would be cool to animate a progress layout to visually show how everything is going! It shouldn't take too long to finish this section up since I already have a foundation laid out.
Noah's sprite sheet update:
As far as Noah sprite sheets goes, it's still in sketch mode and I haven't messed with them yet since I've been practicing. :,,]
There are some old drawing prompts I wrote down and sketches that I'm still doodling up behind the scenes so hopefully I can get to them at some point with some attached lore. :,]
Q&A / Ask box is still open:
If you have any questions about Trembling Essence/Noah feel free to ask here please. This makes it easier for me to see and answer accordingly! I would really like to hear from you guys!
Thank you to those who have sent in asks after everything got reset! I'll try to get to them when I can along with the ones that come to mind that got deleted. I just need time to answer since I like to respond with doodles/drawings as practice. :]
Overall that's everything I have to share so far, thank you guys for your continued encouragement and support through all of this, I wholeheartedly appreciate it! :,,]

I have almost reached the middle of the sketchbook I'm using exclusively for Astarion. A lot of pages are just down right embarrassingly bad and I'm still trying to find the right style (I'm leaning more towards realistic(?), at least on paper, I think). Weirdly enough, I haven't done much digitally despite the frustration I feel when I try reaching for an undo button on my sketchbook. XD I'll be focusing on digital next though so I can color without worrying that doing so would ruin the drawing.
It's been raining (finally) nonstop for a few days now and it's put me in a very artistic mood. Nothing like sketching and hearing real rain instead of the recordings they use as the background noise in the scary story comps I listen to. I would love to sit on my porch with my sketchbook if I wasn't afraid of getting sick again. The aesthetic isn't worth it lol.
Game wise, I have robbed almost everyone in the tower, just because, and have done the trials in the gauntlet. The most frustrating was the Faith Leap Trial, especially when I realized the answer was right there on the floor. I got hella spooked when I thought it wasn't going to give me a choice on whether I wanted to go to Shadowfell or not after I accidently clicked on the portal. I'd like to think I'm not missing anything but I will do my usual wandering before entering, just in case.
there is something truly awful at the way tumblr formats asks so i read this message yesterday but had to wait till I got on my computer to format a proper response.
Every time you mention drawing Astarion I go and make a few drawings myself. I got a new phone with a little stylus thingy and I really adore the way the notes app handles the digital pencil too. It feels really authentic but I can still hit the undo button XD so we are in a similar boat! Astarion has one of those faces that I feel like I have to draw a few dozen times to get the hang of, plus i get annoyed with his hair and how swoopy it is so i just doodle a bunch of squiggles and call it good.
I've been sick the last few days so I haven't done much besides lay around and drink lots of Sprite and Gatorade. God bless antibiotics for real. I have been playing bg3, but not on my main game, but on two other multiplayer games I have with my friends. It's interesting to play different versions of Act 1 and make different choices. (Somehow, I'm romancing Astarion in all three????) I cheated just a little with the Leap of Faith trial cause you can hit the O key and put yourself in tactical mode and see the path XD cheap, I know, but I aint bovvered.
In my main game I am still overwhelmed with Act 3, but I managed to get a few things done, but STILL have not found Orin in her other disguises, but I did find a bunch of very sus toys in a creepy dude's basement. So there's that. I think the desire to explore everything is a detriment to me in this Act since it's simply so large and there's so much to do. I need to take it in little chunks and small quests at a time. I'll get there! .......Eventually!

Project: Movement.
Week 2, Days Tues-Friday. 16-19/01/24
Print.
Tuesday/Wednesday:
On Tuesday, I returned to the print room with a few fresh ideas. Since the wavy hair stamp was successful and I really liked how layered stamps looked, I was inspired to try make a few self portraits with all the different hair colours I've had in the past with a small stamp. We used a oil based ink with a water solution.
Tumblr media
When deciding what I wanted the stamp to look like, I knew it had to be simple, so I chose the word "change". I chose this word because me changing my hair was my personal movement, changing my hair gave me the clarity I needed to move forward.
First I started by doing a rough sketch, and then stamped out the different areas with flat base colours. When stamping I tried following the shape of the head, stamping along the direction of the jaw, nose, and cheeks to give the illusion of a face without any actual detail. I did the same with the hair and it reminds me of hair coils since the stamp is so compact.
Tumblr media
I didn't get it finished on Tuesday, I got as far as the hair, face, and background down before we had to clean up the print room. On Wednesday, since ccs classes hadn't commenced yet, I came in and finished the shirt in the upstairs print room.
Thursday/Friday:
Tumblr media
On Thursday I tried something similar, but with the word movement. Halfway through stamping I decided to cut off the remaining Lino on the block as it would spread ink and make my piece look messy.
I decided to use my most recent hair colour in this piece, and used a photo of myself in the fish eye perspective as my reference. Originally I was going to use striking blocked colours again, but the orange I was mixing turned out a more fleshy skin tone, so I decided to roll with it and create a more semi realistic piece.
Tumblr media
First I did my under drawing with yellow ink using monoprint, and then put down the base colours working from lightest to darkest. Once that was done, I began to add shadows, which helped define the face a bit more. It felt a bit too strong so I mixed a mid tone to blend in the light and dark tones making it look more rendered.
Tumblr media
On Friday, I came in to finish it off, and I added a black border around the head to make the colours of the face and hair pop out more. Looking at it from a distance I realised it looked like a blury face at a distance.
All was well until I added monoprint line art on top.
Tumblr media
I stamped out the rest of the page and it was looking really cool, and then I decided to do the monoprint on top. I honestly think the monoprint ruined it, I was a bit upset with how it turned out.

Hi there *puts chocolate cookies on your desk*. I adore your art sooo much and am very happy to have found your blog. I enjoy painting, but haven't done it for a while - when I had an idea I didn't have time and the other way around. Do you have any recommendations/tips how to start painting again? I would be very grateful for an answer.
Thank you, thank you so much <3 I know this message is a few days old, but I wasn't ignoring you! I was just really flattered and also trying to figure out what I wanted to say
This message means a lot to me, and thank you for reaching out.
I understand the struggle. I completely fell away from drawing for years. 5 or 6 of them if I have the count correct. between moving and the pandemic, depression and lack of time, and finally being in a fandom that wasn't all that welcoming and wasn't actually making me happy...it was difficult to find any kind of joy out of creating something for it.
Stepping back into the drarry fandom after 15 years of being away, wasn't just a breath of fresh air, but an (embarrassingly) healing experience for me. Heal Thyself was funnily enough the first fic I read because I needed a hit of astolat and that was her latest posted work.
There was so much beautiful fic and art just overflowing from the drarry community that I was inspired for the first time in years. It definitely helped that they've all been kind and welcoming :D
I feel like my main tip is going to be horribly cliche, but I would say to find a work you feel passionate about and try to create something for it. I was in the middle of reading book 4 of The Mirror of Ecidyrue and the scene where Draco is showing off his magic for Harry at the quidditch world cup was so vivid for me that I was thinking about it for hours before I finally caved and pulled out my tablet. I spent a good week on that piece just relearning how to draw and falling in love with it again. I'm entirely self-taught so it doesn't come easy sometimes.
That fic in particular has painted very vivid pictures for me, but it's also been so nice to know that it wasn't just that story, because this fandom is so talented.
Having the time is fortunately a drawback that I don't have to worry about at the moment. I am unemployed right now, so I know I have more than most on my hands. But I guess a big thing I do is put on a tv show or movie or youtuber when I draw. It's usually something I've watched before, or something I don't have to be visually engaged with at all times. Often, my husband will have Critical Role or a Dimension20 campaign playing, which can be inspiring as well.
The background noise is helpful and I don't feel like I have to give it 100% of my attention while I work or sketch.
SKETCHING. the HPtober event that bosh put together has been so helpful. I don't do enough sketching, and this has really shown me that I should engage with it more. It doesn't have to be perfect, and I don't have to throw down 100 colors of paint and make the light in Draco's hair be perfect. Sometimes, keeping it simple is not only better, but it can help you get faster and help fix problems with form or lines just with repetition. Honestly, I'd say the sketching I've done this month has probably been the most helpful tip I've used all year. Drawing Harry's hair over and over and over, has made it easier, because I find his messy hair frustrating to draw.
I'm not sure if this list will be helpful. I know it's not comprehensive, and I can't really give proper tips because I wasn't formally trained and I'm not sure what a professor might have told me...but even if it's only a little bit, I hope something might be useful.

Okay,
it's time to show the working process! While I'm having a short break from rendering \ texturing \ posing \ ripping things 😆
The amount of work I had to perform is colossal comparing to my previous posts (it is somewhere near Sally Face and Fallout 4 posts) I have extremely warm feelings towards Prototype game series since it's been with me from childhood (even though the game itself IS NOT for children that's for sure 😅)
I've started from the idea. You need to know exactly what you're going to do before actually doing anything. So I've drawn a couple of simple sketches where Alex - the main protagonist - was depicted in various situations. The one sketch was a pure action scene: a tendril barrage devastator and a lot of Blackwatch troopers around - I've decided to stick to that at first.
I've yet had to realise that I'm critically missing models needed to build a convincing city background (burned cars, banners, pedestrians, etc.). Even though I've had some of characters and vehicles, it obviously wasn't enough. That's where you start to think how to solve the problem.
Tumblr media
READ THE FULL POST BELOW, (a lot of text and pictures warning):
"I'll just rip them off the game!" me said with instant regret. I've ripped the models, yes, and then I realised how Ninja ripper works 😆 I then decided that scrolling through 1000++ ripped parts of models and again put them back into one piece is not the thing I want to spend time for.
So instead I found a map - a whole city map and was pretty satisfied even if there wasn't a single prop on it. The textures I ripped gave me a perceptible advantage - I made banners and I could now cover the ground with original ingame textures instead of trying to imitate them in Photoshop. The map is called gm_bigcity, I used Garry's mod map ported to SFM.
Tumblr media
I started to build a scene. Was fun at first, but then I've noticed something. The bigger scene grew the less FPS I had in the viewport. I ended up with being unable to finish posing. It was only 200 000 ~ vertices and it is already too much for old computers. Will I be able to finish this poster one day I wonder? I like it a lot :(
Tumblr media
It wasn't a time for sorrows so I had to give up on that idea and move towards the next - the one that did not require too much models involved. The one you can see on the posters below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before \ after and variation in more intense reddish colors that was never used.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me and my friend (whose computer was used to render all of that) did render a lot of pictures from various angles but as you can see very few of them were actually used to create a finished poster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here is the one cover image that took me eternity to complete. I took clothing and claws from 2012 game and face with spikes from 2009 game and merged them into one solid model, posed it and rendered. I don't really like what Radical Entertainment did to Alex's face in Prototype 2 (and made him an empty cliched villain in general) so the original one seemed the best choice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's it! That is how it was done. Thank you for reading to the end ❤

I have a warped mind, and a lot of spare time.
So, I tend to have really weird and bizarre dreams. Sometimes they're really funny and I hate waking up, sometimes they're so similar to real life that I wake up thinking it was real. But every once in a while, I have an unsettling nightmare.
As a kid, they plagued me and I would wake up terrified. But nowadays, I've learned to embrace them. Turns out, they give great inspiration for monsters to draw. So I'd like to share a dream, a drawing, and a painting.
The Dream
It starts out with me watching Mark, Jack, Bob, and Wade playing In Silence on Twitch. The thing was, it was like they had been sucked into the game and were playing for their lives. Then I look at my surroundings and see that I too had been sucked in.
Things were fine for a short while, until fear and hysteria set in. They were turning on each other and fighting over the car, where I had been hiding in the back seat when the fighting started. The arguing had brought the monster to us and we had to hurry and climb into the car.
We sped off, but the monster had jumped on the roof of the car. I climbed into the driver's seat and slammed the brakes, making the monster fly off. When it was in front of us, I hit the gas as fast as I could. I ran the beast over like you see in those cliche horror movie troupes.
I don't know how, but we somehow found ourselves in an abandoned asylum. And we had a whole new beast to take care of. I remember shining a flashlight at it before waking up. I remember feeling unsettled, but excited. I had a new monster to draw.
The Drawing.
Before the dream, I had been in a really bad slump. Work was draining on me, and I had no inspiration for anything. But seeing that monster in my dream had given me something to do. Something that made me happy again.
It took a few hours to get the initial sketch done, then a few more to get the colors and shading right. But I was happy. This was the finished product.
Tumblr media
I loved it, don't get me wrong, but I felt I could do better. I mean, let's face it. Colored pencils and pens can only do so much. So I set out to make it better.
It honestly took longer than I wanted to. I had painted the background and wall, but it took me at least another month until I actually had the motivation to finish it. And I did so a few days ago.
The Painting.
The final product was so much better than the drawing. It took a lot of mixing, experimenting, and an all-nighter. But it was done. And I was so happy.
Tumblr media
This is the first in a series that I want to make. Nightmares that I remember and draw. The ones that could be improved beyond paper, I will put onto canvas.

May 07 - 2024 Tuesday
10:31pm
4.5/10
Im writing on time tonight because DS went to sleep early and I did my dishes early partly because my tummy hurts.
This morning I did my whole body shave with the manscaped attachment I don't usually use which was a good idea, it's bigger than the thing I usually use. It's just not as good at trimming unless you are only going against the grain. I took my shower and for breakfast I made oatmeal using some frozen cut up apples and a side of spam. It was a light breakfast since I've been eating big meals lately. I did my monthly finances finally, just 2 days late.
For work today I warmed up by sketching human torsos but my head wasn't really in it so I didn't do a great job. That didn't bode well for what commissions were going to turn out like. It was just one of those days. I had a bit of trouble on the commission because GT, the guy paying for it, just wanted me to redraw a black and white image of a guy on a motorcycle but as a cat instead. Partway in I didn't think my usual process would be best so I decided to wing it instead and do something more like a lineless color study which turned out to be a good idea. I stopped stream halfway through because little things kept going wrong and my tablet died which required me to restart my computer. DS seemed upset at that which sucks because she's definitely my favorite viewer to have.
Off stream I asked TK if she wanted to hang out in her server VC while I worked. She said she had just showered and likes to wind down after so in a bit we could. In the meantime I worked on the commission with some music. I got distracted a few times but not too badly. She alerted me when she was good to go so I joined her and her boyfriend to chill. NJ joined as well. I mostly listened until I decided to speak up about some frustrations I had today. It turned into a big rant session to NJ who was kinda becoming my therapist for some reason. He asked some good questions but didn't have very good advice in my opinion. He also implied every thing I said was wrong which wasn't productive, I felt like I was defending myself at every turn on things I was confident I was right about. Eventually the topic was abandoned and I left briefly to start lunch. I made stir fry rice with canned ham and mixed vegetables. It came out okay, I wish I had added more jalapenos. I continued work in the call. TK asked what I was working on and I had to explain it was someone's character performing receiving fellatio. Then I worked on something of my own which was my otter giving head and I actually showed them that one since they were curious. It was a strangely classic case of showing "normies" some relatively extreme furry art, but they appreciated the quality of it. Especially the background. After an hour of working on that, I switched to my custom pony VRchat avatar. I more or less finished work on the basic body shape I think, but I'm not sure I'm sold on it yet. TK left and I hung out with the other guys until I was done working. Then I got off to decompress.
I watched episode 2 of Black Mirror this evening. I already got all my thoughts on it out to DS, but my view was trying to positive in that maybe their society would improve with the introduction of the guy's podcast on the state of the system. I think it was left open ended. I got the impression at the end that it was implied he had a LOT of work ahead of him. After watching, I booted up KSP with the goal of further figuring out a way to organize my crafts and do a couple missions. The craft organizer mod is unfortunately bugged which makes it very hard to use. I might just have to get rid of it and think of another way to organize. DS got in bed early and we called to do our usual routine of puzzles and KH2. She talked to me a bit about her struggles lately and I empathize with all of it. It's stuff I'm also working on and making headway I think. Its progress I wish I could share with her somehow without lecturing about how I'm doing it. I know the best thing I can do is support her as she figures out what works for her which I'm eager to witness and hear about. I reached the end of the game in KH2 and next is the final final boss I think. After DS fell asleep I continued KSP a little bit. I also ate the first chicken strip I've made that come un-cooked which was something I was very slightly worried about. I knew it wouldn't really be a big deal, and it wasn't. Since they're frozen it isn't very gross handling them. I just know I gotta wash my hands when I'm done. Its unrelated that my tummy has hurt all afternoon and evening and still is. I keep having to go but it's all ordinary. This has happened before, its just uncommon for me. No idea what could have my stomach like this but I think it's already passing. I getting very cozy watching a Twitch streamer play Fallout 4, I'm probably gonna watch until I happen to pass out.
I wanted to practice "self as context" from my ACT book today but I didn't out of simple laziness. I'm guilty of feeling like I already know everything I need to know but that is foolish and I know it. I turned this journal into a sort of practice by writing it from the perspective that I'm reading it which helps me provide better context for events and makes me look at my own writing style. It helps prevent rambling in a way that I ignore and forget about as soon as the words have been typed.

Questions About Art
Tumblr media
In the last couple of weeks, you've probably seen a few twitter threads like these (or their re-posts on tumblr) about the "decline" of art and architecture. Now, these kinds of posts (and people like The Cultural Tutor especially) have a lot of fascist red flags that other people have pointed out much more eloquently than I ever could, but I'd like to give my own two cents about why this view on art, architecture and their history proposes a lot of problems but also some questions that are worth getting into.
Some of the problems I'll be talking about are directly from these twitter threads, some I saw in the comments of these threads, and some I've encountered in my daily life. I'm not saying these are all fascist! In fact, a lot could just be labelled as "things you learn about art history when you don't spend years studying it". This mindset and this kind of bias are, as you will see, very very old and there are reasons why we still struggle with them today.
I kind of want people to know about arguments I rarely see talked about in non-academic spaces. Diversify the public discourse, if you will. I know some of these things tend to get complicated but I've tried to keep it as simple as possible. But if you have any questions about any of this, please ask! I can talk about art all day every day.
Also, I'm not claiming to know everything. If nothing here seems to make sense to you, that's fine, too. I'd really like to know your opinion, though! And if I've made mistakes and you know better: Please tell me!
(I also really understand that engaging with these kinds of arguments is maybe kind of pointless. People will see and like and think what they will see and like and think. Art has always been devisive. But I love talking about art and I think I do have some perspective on this topic. And the discussion is kind of the point here. Also, if you read those threads on twitter, most comments are actually saying some good stuff. Not everything is mindblowingly wrong. I'm elaborating on some of it.)
Okay, let's get this thing going!
1. What is supreme?
Tumblr media
There are several problems here: The choice of vocabulary is probably the least offensive. But this person presents their opinion (and it is simply that) as fact while assigning subjective values to the Pietá. What is extraordinary? What is beauty? Why is it surpreme? Is it because of the assumed value of marble, historically taken as a luxurious material when it isn't really any better than any other stone... Is in fact worse under certain circumstances because it really doesn't like getting wet... But I don't think this person wants to talk about that here. I think what they really mean is: It takes skill to make stone look like flesh or fabric.
Now, the problem with this is: It's a myth. Granted, we'll maybe have to leave Michelangelo out of it, because apparently he did do a lot of the work himself, but... a lot of artists did not. In fact, the artist as this unique genius working on his own, all by himself, is a narrative that's been pretty much established because of Michelangelo and the way art history has literally been built on top of his legacy. But most artists, before, during, and after Michelangelo's time, had whole workshops and teams of people working for and with them. We don't know a lot of medieval artists today because they didn't think it was important who had done the work. They shared their skills and time and resources to make and build and craft. Same goes for artists during the 17th century, because most of them still needed the help of craftspeople to make a bronze cast, for example. Sometimes we still can't decide if something is "by Leonardo da Vinci" or by one of his students or made in his workshop because sometimes an artist had an idea, drew a sketch and let other people do things like the background or details he didn't have the time for because he was busy inventing planes. And no one really cared because it was still from his workshop and having him paint the whole thing would've cost a lot more. Not only money but also time.
What we can see here, over time, is the development of the narrative of the artist as genius, and the devaluaziation of workshops and crafts in comparison to art.
2. What is an artist?
Tumblr media
This is funny because idea, concept, and intellectual work in general are initially what seperated art and craft. The male artist as genius who creates something (the Pietá) out of nothing (a block of marble) is an important narrative! Saying that Jeff Koons' works are worse because he didn't do it himself is kind of ridiculous because it's nothing new. Artists have done this for centuries. And devaluing his work because it's only an idea/a concept is even funnier because that's one of the most important aspects of art in the early modern period.
Tumblr media
For comparison: This is one of Jeff Koons' Balloon Dogs, mirror-polished stainless steel with transparent color coating (here in magenta), 121 x 143 x 45 inches (307.3 x 363.2 x 114.3 cm), made between 1994-2000.
Douglas Crimp says,
"The extraordinary status that has accrued to the work of art during the modern period is, in part, a consequence of the romantic myth of the artist as the most highly specialized, indeed unique producer. That this myth obscures the social division of labor was recognized by Minimal artists. Traditional sculpture's specialized craft and highly fetishized materials were opposed by Minimalism with the introduction of objects industrially fabricated of ordinary manufactured materials." (1)
Jeff Koons is not a Minimalist. Their works from the 1950s and 1960s looks more like this.
Tumblr media
This is Carl Andre's 4 Square 4 Void, installation 2018, 12 unit hollow square on floor, 0.5 x 160 x 160 cm.
Minimalists like Andre intended to completely erase the hand of the artist by using materials that had to be very obviously made with machines. This is where another art myth comes in as well: "I could have done that." Yes, that's the point. Minimal art is supposed to let you reflect on the way we lift artists to higher standards. Why would you treat Andre's metal squares differently than the concrete floor their lying on? You're actually even invited to walk on these! To reflect the way you experience the room around you, with the artwork and your body in it... (The Minimalists had a whole thing going on relationships between art, space and viewer as a critique of the supposedly "neutral" gallery or museum space but that's a topic for another day.)
The Minimalists (Carl Andre, Sol LeWitt, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd...) also did these high finishes like Koons, very shiny surfaces that show no traces of brushes or chisels. You're not supposed to think these have been done by one person. And if they're not done by a person but by a machine, or by a whole group of people working these machines, then who is the artist? What is an artist? And can anyone be an artist?
3. Is it art if you (don't) need to explain it?
They also wanted to make art accessible. Since the kind of art the Minimalists did was pretty much completely new and unheard of in the 1960s, no one understood it, which meant that everyone started on the same level. You're just supposed to feel their art, its position in the room and in relation to your body. Everyone can do that. No academic advantage. Some critics were furious about that.
Of course, this concept falls apart a bit when you think about art historians and critics engaging much more with art in general, talking to artists and other historians, knowing about materials etc. You'll never get a completely even playing field, if you ask me, but at least the Minimalists tried to do something.
In contrast: The twitter post above claims that the Pietá needs no explanation or context. But that's not exactly true, is it? Sure, you can appreciate it without knowing anything about it. Pain like that translates well in any case, I think. But being at least culturally Christian puts you miles ahead of everyone else already. Knowing that that's the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, who's lying in her arms, dead... otherwise these two people could be lovers, or siblings, or friends. It's also placed in a church, you can't really get close to it, which could make it hard to even see that the man in the woman's arms is dead, at first glance he could just be unconscious, even sleeping. Not having this context doesn't make this work less impressive, on a skill-level, but it does add some things.
Context matters.
Which takes me to one point in the discussion on twitter that actually makes me angry.
4. What is context?
Tumblr media
The OP says that they don't know what to think about these sculptures. Maybe you don't either, that's completely fair! Let me add some context:
On the left: Veronica Ryan's Custard Apple (Annonaceae), Breadfruit (Moraceae), and Soursop (Annonaceae), all from 2021. Now, I had to research this but it was fairly easy. I just used Google. The titles suggest that these are fruit. The fact that they are the UK's first public sculpture dedicated to the Windrush generation makes me think that they're probably culturally and historically important to these people specifically. People from the Caribbean, where the artist was born and where these fruits are common, who migrated to the UK.
I like this anecdote from an article in iNews on the day the sculpture was unveiled in London:
"On a wet October morning, shoppers wheeling trolleys nodded in recognition as they passed the work. A mother fielded questions from her young daughter, identifying the soursop for her and explaining what it was as they walked away. As Ryan posed for photographers, a young man sped past, pointed at the marble sculpture and shouted “sugar-apple!” - “That’s right!” the artist shouted back, beaming." (2)
I know what the Pietá is depicting, I've learned about it from growing up as a Christian and studying art history. I had to google what a soursop was, but other people have grown up with them and look at this sculpture, already knowing what it means.
Context matters.
I also think it's important to know that this is the first public sculpture in the UK by a Black woman. And I love that Ryan says she wants these sculptures of fruits to be a part of the community, to bring people together like food tends to do, to remind people of good things, to give them a place to sit or rest or climb on.
The Pietá sits high and mighty, untouchable, holy, and that's for a reason, too. But I like that sculpture like Ryan's, made from marble and bronze just like so many sculptures from the Renaissance, can also be like this, public and warm.
I don't have to understand everything about it. I have never eaten a sugar-apple, or a breadfruit. This is not art made for me. It does not need to be. But I can still find something in it, if I open my mind, do a bit of research, and don't expect everything to be spelled out for me.
Now, the sculpture on the right is a bit more complicated: It's Heather Phillipson's THE END, 2020, and it was placed in Trafalgar Square, London, on the so-called Fourth Plinth. The Fourth Plinth is a public art project intended to diversify the monuments in London. The other three plinths on Trafalgar Square all carry statues of white British men (two generals and one king). The fourth plinth was supposed to carry another general but the funds ran out and it remained empty until the 1990s, when it was decided that it would instead show different works of contemporary art temporarily, specifically commissioned for this place. Phillipson's work is supposed to look playful, joyful, even tasty, but with a darker twist. The drone on top of the whipped cream sculpture is recording a live feed of Trafalgar Square, a commentary on surveillance in public spaces, even - or especially - if those public spaces are places for people to come together and enjoy life and culture. The sculpture is not taking itself very seriously, just as it is poking fun at the seriousness of other (public) art, like the generals and kings surrounding it, or the paintings in the National Gallery behind it, but it's also political. Who does a public square belong to? Do we know who's watching us at any given moment? But also: Who are we watching? Everyone can watch the sculpture's live feed, all the people on the square, but also every statue of a dead white man there.
5. Do you need to be told this is art?
Tumblr media
At this point, I do think OP is arguing in bad faith here. I'm not saying you have to like any of these artworks. Or that you have to understand them immediately, or get anything out of them. But they are so much more than just "shock factor". Actually, most of modern, postmodern and contemporary art is about so much more than shock factor, especially public sculptures. I've only talked about those here because the OP on twitter only talked about those but it's also my field of study. And I still needed to research a lot to write this, so I don't expect anyone to understand anything immediately. But when it comes to art, I urge people to keep an open mind. Most artworks are much more meaningful than you'd expect and I bet I could actually tell you a lot about Michelangelo's Pietá you didn't know that would change its interpretation to you.
Here are a few just for fun:
This is the only statue by Michelangelo with a signature. We're not sure why exactly that is. Because he saw this as a great work and was proud of himself? Or because he was only at the beginning of his career when he made it and needed to build a reputation?
Mary looks much too young in this to have an adult son. It's an anachronism that's maybe pointing towards her later ascension. Or towards some kind of "beautiful people are moral and good" metaphor that was very prominent during the Renaissance. Or maybe Michelangelo just didn't want to make an older woman.
This work is a masterpiece of composition: You don't even realise that Mary is much larger than Jesus because she's sitting and because her dress is so voluminous. But it's also only brilliant when you're looking at it from the front. It's placed in a church, in front of a wall, so you can't even see behind it. That means, Michelangelo didn't need to do a full piece that's amazing and interesting from all sides - which is, incidentally, a factor that becomes very popular during the Late Renaissance.
I think that last point is interesting because sculptures like those by Phillipson and Ryan do need to be interesting from all sides, since their placed in an open space. They need to do something with the space around them, not just with one wall in a church.
These sculptures are not random. Not even when you don't know what the artists wanted to do with them. If you get something else out of THE END or Custard Apple, that's fine! That's not random, that's just one way to look at art, it's interaction, it's dialogue.
6. What is the conceptual foundation of art?
Tumblr media
We can disagree on this but I don't think the "conceptual foundation of modern art" is to question accepted standards of what art can be. (Setting aside that OP is most likely mixing up modern and contemporary art here.) There are hundreds of movements, styles, and theories in art. Andre, Koons, Phillipson and Ryan are just four artists out of thousands, and each one wants to do something different with their art. Yes, some of them want to question what art can be. Some want to question the assumed neutrality of the gallery. Some want us to think about our bodies in space. Some want to make political statements about surveillance. Some want to see their heritage represented in public.
Some of my favourite artists want to make you think about life and death and all the love we share in between. How we interact with people daily. Or how the world around us keeps moving and changing. Some want to make statements about gender and bodies, or the environment, or colonialism, or capitalism. Some want you to see all the shadows on a white canvas. Some just really like a certain shade of blue.
Art can be so many different things. I love Medieval art, and Renaissance art, and art from the Enlightenment... (I even have friends who study these periods in art history!) No work of art, no period in art history, is superior to another.
OP of the thread - as well as commenters like Mike Brook - assume that contemporary art is only one thing. They argue that idea and concept and meaning trump everything in contemporary art, that form has become meaningless. That's true for some artworks, concept art in particular, or art that can be reproduced again and again. Looking down at that art, criticizing it as meaningless or only interesting because of its shock factor, misses the point, though. And it is - and this is important - incredibly elitist.
7. What is art?
This is an argument we've had since the beginnings of art history - when one of Michelangelo's friends, Giorgio Vasari, published biographies of artists, likening them to nobles and popes and highlighting their unique skills in order to make them out to be geniuses. That meant, in turn, that you couldn't simply become an artist, but that you were born to be one.
Vasari had such an influence on art history - he's actually said to be the "father of art history" - that we still have to unravel these narratives today. Because when Vasari wrote these biographies, these stories, he only included the (in his opinion) greatest artists of all, with Michelangelo coming out on top. He's the reason we have an art historic canon, a set of artists who are considered important and great and worthy of study and admiration and remembrance. Of course, Vasari mostly included Italian artists because most art from north of the Alps was not as great. And anyone before Michelangelo couldn't be as great as Michelangelo because you needed to show progress, that art was moving forward, becoming better and better. Art made by women was always depicted as being less good than that made by men. And so on, and so forth...
The same narrative goes for understanding art. There are several instances throughout art history when people (mostly old white men) cried about the supposed "end of art". It happened with the Impressionists, with the Dadaists, with the Minimalists, with concept art and installation art and so on.
In 1967, art critic Michael Fried published an essay called "Art and Objecthood" in which he criticized Minimal art (especially in comparison to Modernist art) as being literal and theatrical. It is one of the most cited essays on contemporary art in recent decades. You might ask yourself, what about Carl Andre's metal plates on the floor could be theatrical? Literal can be understood: They are literally metal squares on the floor. They don't pretend to be anything else, like how Michelangelo's marble pretends to be Jesus, or how Ryan's bronze pretends to be fruit. In this way, they can be understood by everyone. You don't have to have read the Bible or been to the Caribbean to "understand" a metal square. You are simply supposed to experience your body in relation to it. That also means that the artwork speaks to every person differently and individually, because no one can experience art out of any body other than their own.
"Theatricality" to Fried means superficiality, deception, and emptiness of meaning. If a work of art doesn't claim to be anything else than what it is, it's superficial. If anyone can find different, individual meaning in a work of art, no one can really know what the artist wants to say, so it's deceptive. And if the artist doesn't care about universal meaning being found in their work, it must be meaningless.
Christa Noel Robbins says on Fried's essay:
In catering to each viewer in their turn, the ability of the work of art to transcend atomized taste and enter into something like a community of meaning making is foreclosed. Absent that community, Fried has long argued, a work of art has no real meaning; it is particularized, isolating the viewer in their own individuated field of experience. (3)
If a work of art doesn't transcend to give us some higher meaning, a meaning that's the same for everyone, is it art? Or is it an object?
That's basically what people who question any and all contemporary art, who ask "what is an artist?", have problems with. They don't want to see that a sculpture is just a block of marble, no matter the form. The form doesn't make it any less a block of marble, something very normal, and earthly, and not "supreme" at all. And not everyone will find (or needs to find) higher meaning in that block. Only if someone does find higher meaning in it, does it become art at all - Michelangelo's sculpture needs the viewer, just like the metal squares need the viewer to make them into art. Into more than objects. But this process is extremely subjective, for Michelangelo just as much as for Andre or Ryan.
"Anything can be art," complains The Cultural Tutor in another tweet. But that's not the real problem they have. The problem is: If anything can be art, and I don't like some of that art and I don't even think it's art, who's to say that Michelangelo's Pietá is art? If I can question contemporary art, isn't everything else in danger to be questioned as well?

Here’s an Adrian chase request! Adrian finds out the reader draws him a lot n he finds it so endearing n cute he can’t stop gushing about it to ppl n the reader n kissing them all over for being so sweet n maybe the 11th street gang make jokes about how the drawings are too good to be of Adrian
hello! sorry this took longer than intended, getting back into the mindset to write for adrian is hard and i've been working a lot. but i hope you like it :) tysm for ur request!!
Tumblr media
Adrian had no idea that an inanimate object could taunt him so much.
It's like your sketchbook, even closed and plastered with cute stickers on the cover, is screaming open me! open me! directly into his eardrums. His fingers are practically twitching.
Normally, he'd have been halfway through looking at it by now. You two share almost everything; it's just the way your relationship is, even only after a few months being together. You're like two open books.
Ha. Irony.
But the thing stopping Adrian from picking up the book is just how secretive you've been with it the past few weeks. He'd known that you drew, you did just about anything art related. He'd always admired your passion for creative hobbies. But you never showed him any, even awkwardly cover them up when he tries to peek. And it'd been even more intense lately, with you either on the other side of the room, or completely in another room, huddled with your phone next to your sketchbook. If you aren't drawing, it's tucked away somewhere Adrian hasn't discovered yet. The only reason it's now here, sitting in front of his curious eyes on the coffee table, is that you'd rushed out the door, having nearly forgotten to pick up the takeout you ordered an hour before.
You'd been gone now twenty minutes, and Adrian's spent half of that in the same spot, staring at the book. He knows he probably shouldn't open it, but he's also super fucking curious. How bad could it be? Surely there weren't any big secrets in there, right? It's just drawings. You aren't the cerebral type when it comes to your art hobbies; it's more of a way to relax or give yourself something to focus on to decompress from the rest of life.
Another five minutes passes before Adrian steels himself, finally picking up the book and flipping through its pages. A smile slowly curls up his lips once he gets a quarter of the way through various sketches of places around your apartment, little goofy cartoons of the 11th Street Kids, into a number of pages of... himself?
His heart races as he takes it in, warmth crawling up his arms and settling in his chest pleasantly. Graphite sketches, some in higher detail than others, carefully done with each stroke building a near perfect image of him. His jaw could've fallen off and dropped to the floor. Your other stuff is great, he was amazed on the first page in, but something about you spending hours-- days by the dates scribbled next to each sketch-- capturing him in such detail. His shock turns into a smile so wide his cheeks hurt.
As he continues to leaf through them, various sketches in different areas of your life together-- the sofa, your bed, Fennel Fields, Hennenlotter Video, even the van during one long roadtrip for a mission-- he finally reaches the most recent one, dated today. You have the day off, and with Adrian only having had a half-shift as well, you'd both lounged in bed longer than usual this morning. He remembers you shifting over to where he couldn't see the paper as you'd begun to draw, so he'd focused on playing a game on his phone, the TV playing some sitcom rerun in the background. The sound of your pencil weaving in and out of laugh tracks and commercials. Your legs stretched out comfortably over his thighs from your side of the bed. His hand massaging your ankle affectionately. It was so peaceful. And even he could see it now, reflected back on his own face constructed in shades of grey, careful scribbles shading the late morning light framing his face.
Adrian is so distracted by the memory that he doesn't notice you opening the door until a loud thunk makes his head jerk towards you when you drop the bag of food on the floor.
"Adrian!" Your voice turns a bit shrill in panic as you reach for your sketchbook in his hands. He pulls it just out of your reach with a smile. Meanwhile your frown nearly reaches your shoes. "Give it back, you weren't supposed to see that."
"Why not? It's just me," he smiles at you brightly. He finds the pink dusting your cheeks incredibly endearing. "You shouldn't hide these anyway, babe, you're a regular Salvador Deli!"
"It's Dali--"
"Are you sure? I always remembered his name because it sounded like Salami Deli and--"
"Adrian!" You whine, finally prying the book from his hands. You huff. "I'm just-- I guess I'm embarrassed. I don't want you to think I'm a creep or something for drawing you so much. And- and they're not that great--"
"First of all, they are great, fucking amazing, actually. Second, you could never be a creep, dude, not with skills like that, plus, we're dating, how is it any different than when I take photos of you?" He presses a kiss to your cheek, squeezes your wrist. Tugs you impossibly close to him. The heat of your embarrassment fades into the familiar warmth of Adrian's affections. "I think it's cute that I'm your muse or whatever, baby. I've never been someone's muse before. This is just like Titanic." You let out a giggle at that because, no, it really isn't, but you understand what he means. It's cute. Adrian kisses your cheek again.
"Okay, Jack." You mumble, overwhelmed with warmth as he presses his cheek to yours, practically overflowing with his affection for you. He almost prances over to the food you left on the floor, completely moving on to another conversation.
"Speaking of, did you know the first time I watched that I only saw the second VHS tape when I was a kid? I thought it was a horror movie."
--
Adrian knowing about your art was a blessing and a curse. You love having his support, his constant praises were motivation to you, and validation that nobody would shy away from. It's also nice to not have to worry about hiding them from him anymore, and sometimes he makes sure not to move for a while if he notices you're drawing him.
On the other hand, he continues to tell absolutely everyone, every single person you bump into, how talented he thinks you are, and "oh you should see, I have it right here on my phone." It's sweet, really, but sometimes it gets overwhelming. You're hoping it'll die down soon, but knowing Adrian, it might be a while before he fixates on some other quality to brag on you about. Again, he's sweet.
He especially never stops gushing to the 11th Street Kids, most often Chris and Leota, the latter who, god bless her, actually shows interest, and is incredibly supportive. Well, she was at first, now it's just to make you flustered just to get on your nerves.
Chris, however, consistently tries to convince Adrian you aren't actually drawing him, because you make him look too attractive. And every single day you are on the verge of kicking him in the nuts.
"Adrian, man, I'm telling you, they just put a pair of glasses on a random stock photo model, you are not this hot--"
"Christopher Smith, put my boyfriend's name in your mouth in a negative context one more time, and you will no longer have a dick that works."

I'm glad you like it! Very much enjoyed the description of your reaction! I was really pushing for poster vibes by the end of it. Getting a little inspiration vortex going would be fun.
Like with how much I talked it up, it has no right to actually live up to the praise I've given it, but it still does :) Don't know how I managed that.
That is Nyx's PAK. I didn't know what sorta damage it got so I just went like she's basically a symabolic ghost in this anyway so it should be fine to just like give it cracks and a few stray wires.
Intially the plan was to have her and Miyuki fade into the background a bit more with their glowing eyes/PAKs being the main thing to draw attention to them. With maybe legacy repeating behind the Tallest in irken a bunch. Then I wanted to add Red and Purple mostly for self indulgent reasons. Then I saw the post about Zim being responsible for Callie's death and her love for the earth and I was like this goes in too.
That was ABSOLUTELY the feeling I was going for with Zim! I'm glad it conveyed so well. Actually you pointed out all the feelings I was really going for so I must of done something right.
Miyuki's pose made thing just feel really loopsided for a while and there was nothing really infront of her, like how Zim and Nyx were infront of the Tallest. Which was definitely symbolic at that point. So couldn't just like flip them or anything to see if that would help. I struggled there for a bit.
Then I really struggled with Lard Nar. I couldn't figure out how to pose him or anything. He had a chair for a bit. But it just didn't fit and the perpective was off and I just started on the line art and colors of Callie and Laska to not deal with him.
But I was like if I'm adding Lard Nar and Zim has a planet... Why not add Vort? Red's just waving anyway and I don't even need to redraw his hand to just make it look like he's holding a planet. So I probed you and Verm about your thoughts on the planet and smashed them together with mine. Boom! Rough sketch for it.
If both Lard Nar (the designer) and Miyuki (the comissioner) are in this then the Massive is a MUST. (I shrunk it later cause I was trying to unloopsidify the drawing. This was a constant and continuing struggle throughout.)
Tumblr media
Thyme's bow. I have a character with a ribbon as a tie and one in her hair. I have drawn her more then anything else and that is why this bow was pretty easy for me.
Laska was super easy. Easiest aside from Zim right up until I had to shade her face. Then I could not for the life of me figure it out. There was a point where I had Callie and Thyme fully lined, colored, and shaded (and had figured out what to do with Lard Nar) where her face shadows were in a totally different style cause I just couldn't.
Doing the line art in Vectors honestly was the best decision I made for all of this. Though it did make me realize that while I hadn't really used Vectors in clip before for I kept expecting to morph lines like I did in sai and was very confused for a while.
I have drawn the Tallest a few hundred times at this point. Mostly stopped myself from finishing them out right first as a reward for myself(I love them). Look at that little bitchy hand Red's got on his chest. Cocky fucker.
Tumblr media
Moving along.
First time I actually really tried drawing Miyuki. Her head and colors was a bit of a pain, but she came out great. Just a lotta line work and I was too distracted by everything else to get her done for a while.
My favorite part with her is that arm she's snaking around her back to grab at Callie.
Tumblr media
The Massive took like three(?) days. Don't normally draw props or ships it was pretty fun though. Couldn't find a ref for a full side view so I used three angles I found on google. This is only notiable cause I really really struggle getting myself to use references. I think that's been getting a bit better since I started drawing fanart, but still.
Tumblr media
Now Vort. Very fun to do. Very much a struggle. I experimented like crazy with this planet and it's moons. And honestly I don't even know how I got the moons like that. They were green and blue. Then they were orange and purple. Then some how I got a really cool texture on the minty one after messing with posterization and I couldn't replicate it on the others. Vort still looked off.
Those three days I was working on the Massive I was still working on other parts of the drawing to just keep up progress. When I worked on Vort. I only worked on Vort. (And Zim a tiny bit cause Earth was on the same layer and I moved it and the moon so he lost his fingers at one point.) Took two(?) days.
This is around the time saving started taking a while and I was sure it I even touched clip while it was saving it would crash. And while it didn't respond a few times I didn't have to find out if that was true.
Eventually I just I think Wave Distorted it and upped the tolerence on my selection tool to block out some of the more blended colors that were bugging me. Skipping over a lot of fuckery here but yeah. It turned out well.
Used a bit of what I learned from Vort on Earth, straight up stole and rotated one of it's moons and add atmospheres to things.
Background took a bit too. I knew what I wanted out of it and didn't know how to get there. There was a lot of trial and error. So so many layers. But it turned out better then expected.
This was honestly a lot more process stuff then anything else, but still. I wanted to write it out. It was a lot of fun and I really pushed skills. Plus like I stayed focused on something for over a week with out dropping and forgetting about it. So this is kinda a huge win for me. Makes me much more confident about drawing comics in the future.
Oh, and character interaction! Another breakthrough with this piece (possible the few before it too) I've never really been able to draw characters physically interacting or like reacting to each other before. Don't know why it. I just never could seem to get over that hurdle before so this is pretty major. Not only having so many character in it, but conveying what I want them to and not looking super stiff! Fantastic!
Tumblr media
It is done! Here we got @spacegoathours Mina's ocs; Callie, Nyx, Thyme, and Laska with Lard Nar, Zim and three of the Tallest. Vort, Earth and the Massive. (I hope you like it!)
I went hard with this.
I was gonna draw 777 all week and instead I had a NEED to get this out. And it came out amazing! So thrilled! Very proud!
Imma come back and add more text later. Sleep is needed now.

I sat in my best friends garage listening to her rehearse with her band until it was time.
"Flynn's gonna love this" I said looking up from my sketch book.
"Thanks y/n/n. I honestly don't know what I would've done if you hadn't believed me"
"Well at first I didn't. But you proved your point Jules" I said remembering how I just thought they were normal boys at first. Cute normal boys.
"I just hope she forgives me" The girl sighed looking down. I looked back at the rest of her bandmates who like all guys stood there awkwardly. They all sent me a look begging me to comfort her. I rolled my eyes standing up.
"Julie we've all been best friends since kindergarten. We've been through everything together. This is just another one of those things we have to get through" I said going to pull her in for a hug from behind.
"Thanks. Again. It really means a lot"
"What are best friends for?" I smiled as she hugged back the room going silent.
“You never know how long your supposed to wait in this type of situation before you can talk again you know?" (If you know where that's from I love you) Luke said making my head whip towards him.
"Maybe a little longer" The brunette spoke making me facepalm.
I looked back at the group nervously to see them giving me a thumbs up. My gaze quickly finding the cute bass player who sent me an air kiss. I jokingly pretended to catch it earning disgusted looks from the rest of the band.
"Gross" Julie joked.
"Shut it Molina" I warned turning around to go bring our other friend in. I was startled at the sudden sound of knocking outside the doors. Hearing a few chuckles from behind me as I opened the door.
"Hey Flynny" I smiled using the nickname I gave her when we were kids.
"Y/n? What are you doing here? Where's Julie?"
"I'm right here" Said girl called from behind me.
"Thanks for coming we just wanted to rehearse the song so it was perfect which it's not but whatever"
"No if I'm gonna hear a song from your imaginary ghost band I want it to be perfect so get back in there" Flynn said waving us back.
"All of you. You too" She said pointing to absolutely nothing.
"She's not lying Flynn. They're real"
"Oh my god now you've got y/n/n in on your imaginary ghost band? Do you play air drums?" Flynn's asked placing a hand on my shoulder.
"No that's Alex. I'm not in the band per se but I watch them rehearse all the time. Plus my boyfriends in it"
"Oh so she really sucked you in. So where are they?"
"They're not out here"
"Oh I know" Flynn said patting Julie's shoulder before walking in. I looked at the girl beside me playfully rolling my eyes.
Flynn had always been the logical one out of the three of us. So no doubt this was gonna have to be good. I shut one of the doors behind us while Julie shut the other before making my way towards the boys who stood there looking excited.
"Good luck" I whispered. Placing a quick kiss to Reggies cheek.
"Oh so my best friends just kissing the air now. That's great. What's your moms number again?" She asked pulling out her phone. I playfully rolled my eyes taking a seat on the couch pulling up my sketch book once more.
I was currently working on a drawing for the guys. Something that screams were alive. As Luke put it.
"All right guys you ready? Uh actually can you go over there. Reggie needs some space to rock out and he feels kinda weird walking through you" Julie said. Flynn letting out a chuckle.
"Boy when you create a world you really live in it"
"Just sit" Julie said sitting her down in an empty chair.
"If you'll notice there's no equipment that will produce a hologram. Feel free to look around. The guys took a poem that I wrote about you and put it to music"
"Y/n helped" Reggie interrupted making me smile.
"I'm sorry. The guys and y/n"
“Aww! I wish I didn't have to talk to your parents after this"
“Come on Flynny it's a great song"
"If you say so y/n/n. So when did you go crazy?" She asked placing a hand on her knees.
"It's called Flying Solo. Hope you like it" I smiled upon hearing the opening notes of the song.
J- If I leave you on a bad note
Leave you on a sad note
I know all your secrets
You know all my deep-dish
Guess that means some things they never, they never
Change...
We both know what I, what I, what I
Mean...
When I look at you it's like I'm looking at me
I looked up from my book when Flynn let out a scream signalling she could finally see them.
All- My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo
My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo without you
Hey! yeah-e-yeah
Hey! yeah-e-yeah
My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo without you
I grinned at Flynn who gave me a horrified look.
"Are you seeing this?" She whispered. I only nodded giggling at her reaction.
J- Yeah, you know who I'm likin'
Way before I liked them, duh...
Cause you liked them first
And if somebody hurts you
I'm gonna get hurt too
That's just how we work, yeah, that's just how we work
It will never
Change...
We both know what I, what I, what I
I bit my lip watching my boyfriend sing at a close proximity with Luke. Something that I'll never get used to. But definitely enjoyed. When they finallly separated Reggie sent me a wink as he sang the chorus. Luke gradually making his was over to me sitting down on the armrest beside me.
My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo
My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo without you
I chuckled as Luke scared Flynn. Instinctively I smacked his arm. Earning a confused look coming from the girl as Julie pulled her away towards Alex and Reggie.
Hey! yeah-e-yeah
Hey! yeah-e-yeah
I watched closely as Flynn attempted to touch my boyfriend only to have her hand go right through him.
"Weird right?"
"They're ghost!" "Oh we prefer musician spirits"
"But y/n" Flynn said pointing at me.
"We don't understand it either. But she can see and touch them. It's not the same for both of us" Julie explained showing how her hand went through Reggie as well.
“Julie so does this mean you're joining the our band?"
"Umm actually I think you're joining her band"
"I'm gonna go with what she said" Julie said sticking a hand out for me. I grinned taking it.
My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo
My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo without you
Julie sang the three of us dancing along.
"You're crazy" Flynn mouthed to me making me smile wider. She tilted her head to the side pointed at the bassist who had his focus on me.
Hey! yeah-e-yeah
Hey! yeah-e-yeah
I moved away from the two girls to let them have a moment. Reggies bass playing coming to a halt. Instinctively I moved to his side. His arm finding my waist and pulling me close. A chuckle leaving his lips.
My life, my life would be real low, zero, flying solo without you
Julie harmonized coming forehead to forehead with Flynn.
"Still wanna talk to our parents?"
"No I'm good" Flynn said the two girls hugging.
"Bring it in y/n/n!" Julie said opening her arms wider. I smiled kissing Reggies cheek before rushing to engulf my best friends in a group hug.
"I'm really glad Flynn enjoyed the song today" I spoke after a long day. I was finally able to sit in at my desk and continue drawing in my sketchbook.
With Reggie present in the room as well. Like most nights.
"I did too. She seems like a cool girl"
"Oh she is Reg. She was literally my first ever friend and with Julie the three of us have been inseparable since" I explained to my boyfriend who moved his arms behind his head.
"Well then I guess I'll have to get to know her better. For your sake of course" He said the room falling into a comfortable silence with exception of my soft music playing in the background.
Ed Sheeran to be exact. He had easily become one of the boy's favorites new artist. So when they hung out in my room I played him a lot. Along with other artists of course.
It had been about 15 minutes of my pencil hitting the paper when I finally looked up to see Reggie gazing at me.
"Have you been staring at me this whole time?"
"Maybe"
"Why?" I asked.
"Because your adorable"
"Really Reg. Look at you. Your a hot teenage ghost rocker from the 90's and you think I'm adorable" I giggled.
"I love your laugh" He stated my cheeks immediately heating up.
"Thanks" I smiled shyly.
"I love you" He spoke again. My heart stopping.
That was the first time either of us had said that. Since the night I met them in Julie's garage to now. Those were the last words I never expected anyone to say that wasn't family or Julie or Flynn.
Upon not hearing a response the look on his face dropped as he pulled himself to the edge of the bed in front of me.
"I-I mean you don't have to say it b-back I was just thinking out loud but like I could have been t-talking about anything like pizza. I love pizza. P-pizzas good well except pineapple pizza kinda of sort of. Actually you know what's really good cheese pizza that's nice I really like it-" I quickly cut him off by placing a tender kiss to his lip. Feeling his hands cup my cheeks the warmth of them making me feel safe. Loved.
I wanted more of him. I wanted to feel all of him.
Finally breaking apart I smiled at the boy in front of me.
"What?" He asked as I gazed into his beautiful brown eyes.
"I love you too Reg" His small smile only getting bigger.
He quickly removed the sketchbook away from me. Placing me onto his lap.
"Are you sure?"
"I don't think I've ever been more sure of anything my whole life" I smiled as he pushed a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Kiss me" I whispered. Reggie immediately taking action.
I giggled as he began to kiss down my neck my hands flying to remove his red flannel. He was quick to remove it himself among my request. His other hand gripping my waist. I took this as my opportunity to fix myself on his lap straddling him. Like I'd done so many times before.
Our lips met in the middle as we both kissed each other with such force. Such passion. I smirked into the kiss as I placed my hand under Reggies tank top. His reaction something I hadn't expected.
"W-what are you doing?" He asked pulling away to look me in the eyes. I bit my lip giving him a look.
"Oh" He said letting out a breath.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah"
"Have you ever....." He trailed off. I nodded watching his face drop.
"If it helps I didn't really like the guy. And it was a long time ago"
"Oh" He kind of perked up.
"So? Are we good here?" I asked placing a soft kiss on his neck. And another and another. Until finally settling on a spot. Earning a throaty groan from the ghost.
"Yup" He squeaked out making me smirk. I placed my hand where it had been previously hiking it up his shirt. He quickly removed it before pulling me back in for a rough kiss.
"Reggie" I moaned as I began to grind on him only earning a soft whimper from the boy. Thankful my parents were out of town. Not for Reggies sake but mine.
"Come on y/n/n don't tease me now"
"You asked for it Reg" I smirked standing up. I smiled noticing how intently he was watching my next moves. I quickly removed my shirt and bra watching him gulp down nervously.
"Like what you see?" I asked biting my lip nervously.
I watched as he nodded eagerly before continuing. I removed my jeans as well leaving me in my panties before slowly bending down in front of him.
"N-no" He spoke stopping me from reaching toward his jeans.
"W-why not?" I asked confused.
"It's just- I wanna be with you tonight. We have plenty of time for everything else but this. This is different. It's our first time. I mean like not our first times but like our first time together and I-" I quickly cut off his cute rambling again with a kiss.
"I get it Reg. It's about us tonight" I smiled pushing him back onto my bed. Straddling him once more.
“Your so beautiful" He whispered his hands flying to my waist.
"Why thank you Reginald" I spoke bending down to meet his lips. Our bare chest coming into contact for the very first time. I moaned as he toyed with the waistband of my panties.
"Reggie please do something" I mumbled against his lips. He immediately took action flipping us over.
"Are you sure about this?" he asked waiting for my consent.
I simply nodded watching as he removed his jeans and boxers letting his hard on spring free from the contained fabric.
"Reggie" I panted digging my teeth into my bottom lip to widthold from the unholy sounds threatening to escape my lips.
"What baby? What do you want?" He teased pushing his finger against the fabric of my panties.
"You" He quickly ripped apart the thin fabric around my waist letting it fall off my body. Throwing it off to the side.
"Are you ready?"
"Wait!" I shouted pulling open a nearby drawer. I pulled out a condom from a box that had been sitting there for a while.
"Protection? Why do you have that there?"
"Well I knew this day would come Reg. I was hoping it would be with you" I said a smile forming on his face.
"Do you think we'll need it? I mean I'm a ghost"
"Safety first baby"
"Well okay then" He said slipping it on.
"Okay now are you ready?" I nodded as he slowly entered me.
Our moans filled the room as he let me adjust to his size.
"Baby your so tight" "Yeah well it's been a while" I muttered pulling at the hair at the nape of his neck.
"Okay you can move" I said giving him the go.
"If you want me to stop just say so okay?"
"Okay" I confirmed as he lent down to place a kiss upon my lips. He slowly began to move until he found a good pace. His thrust moving faster as a spur of moans left our lips.
"God I love you so much" I mumbled against my lips.
"Mmm. Faster Reg!" I encouraged him really feeling the pleasure course through me now. Getting exactly what I wanted I began to moan louder feeling him hitting my G spot at the perfect angle.
"Right there" I spoke feeling a knot forming in my lower stomach.
"I'm so close baby"
"Me too" He panted. We both released our orgasms at the same time relief washing over me as he pulled out. I laid back on the bed watching him throw the condom in the trash can under my desk.
"That was amazing" He said coming back to hover over me.
"It was" I smiled up at him. Pulling him down from behind his neck for another kiss. "I love you baby. I love you so much"
"I love you more" I said as he laid down beside me pulling the covers over us.
"Impossible"

SATIM's B-day - Day 4 - Fandom
Today theme: Events and fandom.
Bonus: Part of the Ink Demonth: Entertainment.
I've never been a particularly social person. Even though I seem to be extroverted and friendly on the web, in reality I am very shy and cannot talk to people. Therefore, even when I liked a series very much, even when I created comics or short stories about it, I could never stand out in the fandom. Currently also, judging by the attendance and the staggering amount of comments under my posts and SATIM's birthday bonuses, ha ha.
Anyway… I've been part of a lot of fandoms. One of the first was Hellsing - in which I sat for quite a long time, but only on a forum founded by a friend. Some of my works from that period made it to dA - but a relatively small number of them considering how many I did.
Fandom Xiaolin Showdown (I don't even know if there was anything like that) passed me by somehow - but traces of my fascination with this show are clearly visible on dA. I even included part of one of the several comic books I made during this period.
Then Pokemon (actually I am still there, although I take breaks from them) - it was better here, 'cause I was one of the moderators on the Pokemon Polska forum - but I was also not very involved, I was rather sticking to the departments in which I was a moderator - i.e. Fanwork and PBF.
I was and I am in the MLP fandom - but here I didn't come out of the shadow and although I created many things of this fandom, very few saw the light of day (mainly my YouTube songs dubbed, I didn't include almost any of my drawings, novels even more so).
I'm just shy, people scare me, and the louder the fandom - the more scary people in it. But yet... but yet in the case of BATIM, it was the first time that I decided to come from my shadow. For the first time, I didn't just stand aside watching others play, but decided to participate. I'm talking now about The Ink Demonth event (today’s bonus come from last year's edition), in which I took part twice, and last year's Secret Satan (this year, however, due to the flood of other activities, I think I will have to give up, unfortunately :'c).
In addition, I also try to celebrate other things - various holidays, now SATIM's birthday, I also try to take part in making people aware of the dangers of Bipolar Disorder, Depression and other related diseases. It is possible that if I was more popular, or at least had more power, I would reach more people with these actions - but I am still proud when people write to me saying that my posts have helped them understand themselves / loved ones / friends even a bit. Thank you for informing me that you have read that it has helped you… It is really important to me.
Remember this entry on the Ink Demonth 2020? This strip was originally intended to be longer and Tom and Allison were to be featured in it. But Titatotrix (my first proofrider) said "too much, you break the punch line", so I didn't even lineart those frames. Today I am giving them in this form - the form of a sketch. I still like the final joke, but in fact - the whole thing would lose its tone a lot. As you can see, I've done some more SATIM-Frozen crossover songs here :D
Tumblr media
Today's question and task are loosely related to events and fandom - 'cause there is a group of fans of movie about Bendy in SATIM, right? Of course, I'm talking about the famous Movie Club, which I personally love, although at the moment it had only a few appearances in the comic.
QUESTION: How often do the members of the Movie Club meet?
TASK: Introduce what movie they could have watched had they not been restricted by the Studio, remembering that: a) Sarah likes there are at least two female characters in the background or at least one in the foreground, b) Simon loves well-written villains, c) Jerry hates robots and androids, d) Mary is not a fan of romance, unless it's a triangle, e) Wallace isn't picky, but the movie must have a happy ending.

In honor of the impending return of Brooklyn 99, here are 99 reasons that...
Tumblr media
1. He was precocious enough to know, at 5 years old, that he wanted to change his name (x)
 2. He has a bunch of nicknames: Sandy Amberg, Young Sandwich, etc. but the most endearing one is 'Droidy', his family's name for him (x)
3. He is still super close friends with people he's known since: Elementary School (Chelsea Peretti) (x)...
4. Junior High/High School (Kiv and Jorm) (x)
5. … Summer Camp (Irene Neuwirth) (x)
Tumblr media
7.  ...and Film School (Chester Tam) (x)
8. Before he met Joanna, he dated other famous ladies but - out of respect - he never discussed it/them (x)
9. He loves turtles and tortoises. When he was a kid, he had a pet turtle that he named 'Squirt' because the first time he held it, it peed on him. His Mom, Margie, accidentally killed Squirt when Andy was at Summer camp... (x)
10. … Maybe this is why, when shooting 'Popstar', Andy fell hard for Maximus (Conner 4 Real's turtle). He says they "had a good thing going" and that he wanted to adopt him. In the end, he decided against it because there are a bunch of coyotes in his neighborhood and he was worried the little guy wouldn't be safe. (Popstar: DVD Commentary)
11. Speaking of his Mom, despite being a super private person, he appeared on 'Finding your Roots' so that he could help her track down her birth family (x)
12. When he succeeded he cried (although we never got to see it on camera) (x)
13. That's because, like all good boys, he loves his Mama which is why - as part of the same episode - he said "My mom is basically the kindest person I know… and many people would corroborate that" (x)
14. Andy's Sisters, Hannie (Johanna) and Darrow, used to make him wear diapers and put his hair in pigtails until he was 5 years old. He says he didn't mind because he just liked that they were paying attention to him (x)
15. That's why he sees his identity in comedy as being 'America's kid brother'. When he was young, he would annoy his sisters until they laughed and he claims to have been replicating that approach to entertainment ever since
16. Although a bunch of his characters have 'Daddy Issues', Andy definitely doesn't. He's super close with his Papa (Joe) and has said "he's a good man" and "the best Dad in the world" (x)
17. Joe was Andy's youth soccer coach and in one scene in 'Hot Rod', Joe's favorite photograph can be seen in the background. It shows a very young Andy posing with a soccer ball, after "scoring the winning goal against Mersey" (x)
Tumblr media
18. He's been a loyal Golden State Warriors fan since he was a little kid, living in Oakland (then Berkeley) and, in 2010, he correctly predicted that they would "win a Championship in my lifetime" (x)
19. The proceeds from his Umami Burger ('The Samburger') went to a deafness early detection program in Berkeley. This cause is close to his heart because Margie uses hearing aids and used to work in the special needs program, teaching deaf kids (x)
20. He, Kiv, and Jorm have made multiple donations to their old school district, including $250 000 to its theater program (x)
21. On the subject of The Lonely Island; Andy always goes out of his way to make sure that everyone knows how much he owes to his buddies. For instance, he told Marc Maron, during his WTF appearance, that "I get a lot of credit for what Kiv and Jorm have done" (x)
22. He makes this face when he knows he’s said something naughty…
Tumblr media
(Gif credit: @andrewsambags)
23. During his 'Wild Horses' appearance, he said that he can't watch scary movies because they freak him out too much. He told 'Complex' that he's still scared of 'The Shining' (x)...
24. … Similarly, when he was at UC Santa Cruz he worked at the Del Mar movie theater and he had a hard time coping with screenings of 'Species 2' (x)
25. He fell in love with Joanna, the moment he met her, when she greeted him by addressing him as 'Steve the C**t' (x)
 26. He listened to 'Ys', everyday for a year, before he and Joanna started dating (x)
27. He bought the original portrait that was used as the basis of the cover art for 'Ys' and gave it to Joanna as a Christmas present, so that she could hang it in her music room (x)
 28. He loves birds and goes hiking and birding with Joanna (x)
 29. Every new comment he makes about Joanna becomes an instant contender for 'most beautiful thing a person has ever said about their spouse' (x)
30. For example, he readily admits that Jake's iconic heart eyes are the result of him thinking about his amazing wife (x)
31. There are many stories about how incredibly romantic Andy and Joanna's wedding was and Jorm has said that it featured "the most magical vows I've ever heard" (x)
32. The Newsombergs now live in Charlie Chaplin's old house (x)
33. On the Emmys Red Carpet (2015), the year he hosted, they took a momentary break from posing for the world's press to whisper 'I love you' to each other (x)
34. At last year's Vanity Fair party, Andy carried Joanna's purse for her so she could grab a snack (x)
Tumblr media
35. He was a semi-permanent fixture in the audience for her recent run of shows for the 'Strings/Keys Incident' tour, even officially confirming his status as the 'President of her Fan Club' (x)
36. He used his Golden Globes monologue to call out the government for framing and murdering the Black Panthers (x)
37. On the Carpet for the Guy's Choice Awards, he called the event "a ridiculous farce", adding that "men already have it so easy - it's insane that there's a show that celebrates them". That makes sense when you consider that he, Kiv and Jorm have made an entire career out of parodying toxic masculinity (x)
38. He once said that only "idiot-ass men" think that women aren't funny (x)
39. He’s been wearing glasses since 7th Grade and he has the most heartbreakingly cute habit of nudging them up his nose, (especially when he wears his Sol Moscot frames) (x)...
40. ... and of rubbing his eyes under them (x)
Tumblr media
41. He barely ever wears glasses for roles but he also avoids contacts (because he doesn't like touching his eyeballs) which means he's almost always 'acting blind' (x)
42. He has worn his glasses in character a few times - as 'himself' ('Lady Dynamite'), as 'Paul' ('I Think You Should Leave') and during a very small number of SNL sketches (e.g. during his one appearance in a 'Gilly' with Kristen Wiig) (x)
43. He can't tolerate glare and when that makes him squint it's a sight that's too cute for words (x)
44. He owns about six outfits and has been rotating them for well over a decade (x)
45. He barely ever breaks during shooting/while performing, so when he does it's aggressively adorable. (x), (x)
46. He's a grown ass man who persuades people to come with him to the bathroom because if he goes by himself he'll get lonely (x)
47. He didn't announce he was leaving SNL, until after his last appearance, selflessly choosing not to detract from Kirsten Wiig's huge and emotional send-off (x)
48. He undertook a quest to smell like Lorne Michaels (x)
49. He's ageing like a fine wine (x)
50. To protect their daughter's privacy, Andy and Joanna never announced that they were expecting. They've never released their little girl's name or date of birth and most news outlets still report that they became parents in August 2017 (even though that's inaccurate) (x)
51. Although he's careful not to talk about his daughter often, sometimes he can't keep from gushing about her. For example, when asked about his first year of fatherhood he said: "It’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Just like a beautiful, incredible dream. It has surpassed every expectation I ever had. It’s definitely been very blissful" (x)
52. After their daughter was born, Andy and Joanna spent the first 40 days at home with her (in a practice known as 'confinement'). He's described it as being "a really special time". (x)
53. Andy is famously mild-mannered but, when asked about what triggers his 'Dad claws', he admitted that if anyone attempted to touch his daughter, without permission, he'd "probably sock them hard in the face"…
54. ...Characteristically, he went on to add that he hopes that never happens, since he hasn't been in a fight since 6th Grade (x)
55. Cyndi Lauper was his first celebrity crush and he plays her record ('She's so unusual') for his daughter all the time. (x)
56. His is the very definition of a precious laugh (x)...
57. It's made even more wonderful by the way it makes his voice go high-pitched (x)
58.  … and the way it causes his eyebrow to rise involuntarily
Tumblr media
59. It's impossible not to smile at his impression of his Mom (x)
60. And laugh at his impression of John Mulaney (x)
61. He was so convinced he wouldn't win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical, that he didn't prepare a speech. Instead, as he explained to David Letterman, he "just went… and started drinking". The resulting list of improvised 'thank yous' was perfect in every way (x)
62. As producers, Andy, Kiv and Jorm have given life to some amazing projects ('Alone Together', 'Brigsby Bear', 'I Think You Should Leave')...
63. … and gone out of their way to support women in comedy ('Party Over Here', 'PEN15') (x)
64. As well as being a comedy legend, he's a super-talented dramatic actor, who gave the performance of a lifetime in 'Celeste and Jesse Forever' but, after the movie wrapped, and it was time to do press for it, he was straight back to goofing around (x)
65. His lip bite should be illegal (x)
66. Even though he wears the same vanishingly small number of outfits, over and over, he has a vast collection of the most excellent socks (x)
67. He always gives 'editing notes' during his own interviews (x)
68. He has a super sweet and sincere way of thanking interviewers when they compliment him (x)
69. He adjusts his hoodie constantly (x)
70. The two most perfect Jake laughs in b99 are actually real Andy laughs 'https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=W38A_xuXaeg https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sVm9nYrTWRQ
youtube
youtube
71. Virtually everyone who has ever worked with Andy has talked about what a wonderful person he is. This explains why so many of them have been involved with more than one of his projects (x)
72. It's not only his colleagues who talk about what a delight he is (x), (x)
73. This lovestruck fool wore his own wife's merch when he went out to dinner (x)
74. No one else uses the word 'dinky' quite like Andy (x). The same goes for 'snacky' (see point 70)
75. He does this with his tongue (x)
76. He still likes to play soccer but his eyesight is so bad that he has to keep his glasses on for it
Tumblr media
77. When he lets his gorgeous floofy hair grow a little it sits perfectly over the arms of his glasses (x)
78. He gifted the world with Jakey's little curl (x)
79. At the James Franco Roast, he couldn't bring himself to be mean to anyone except himself (and Jeff Ross, a little!) (x)
80. In fact, he's always been willing to laugh at himself (x) and he still is (x)
81. He changes b99 scripts to make them more feminist (x)
82. Despite their humble insistence that they just benefited from 'good timing', the reality is that Andy, Kiv and Jorm (along with Chris Parnell) revolutionized digital media, when 'Lazy Sunday' popularized YouTube, increasing its traffic by 85% overnight (x)
83. He once attended the Vanity Fair party because his Mom told him to (x)
84. He has an amazing way of subtly but firmly shutting down inappropriate questions, like when this interviewer suggested that Holt being gay was something that could have been played for laughs https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=idQsYQfkR5o
85. He auditioned for SNL at the same time as Bill Hader. Hader thought he'd blown it because Andy had a bunch of props and Bill had none. In the meantime, Andy thought he'd blown it when he saw Hader and realized 'this guy doesn't need any props' (x)
86. His bromance with Seth Meyers is one for the ages (x)
87. Every single second of this video is proof of why Andy, Kiv and Jorm deserve the world (x)
88. He once dragged Mulaney up on stage for SNL Goodnights, even though writers weren't allowed to join in (x)
89. He has a hilarious phobia of pooping anywhere except his own bathroom (x)
90. His beautiful, beautiful, face: His smile (radiant), his eyes (caramel - hella disarming), his ears (adorably asymmetrical), his nose (perfect), His chin (the dimple… *swoon*), his jaw (could cut glass), The 'Sambeard' (another amazing layer of pretty) (x)
91. His body: His butt (x), his thighs, (x) his soft lil tummy (The ‘Sambelly’) (x), his hands. (x), his arms (x), his hips…
Tumblr media
(Gif credit: @amystiago /@badpostandy on Twitter)
92. All signs point to the fact that, like Jake, Andy uses his glasses case as a wallet (x)
93. Jake's "cool-cool-cool-cool-cool-cool" is an irl Andy-ism that the writers worked into b99 scripts. What's even better is that Joanna does it, too (x)
94. He has a really good arm and is low key competitive, which is super hot https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e32K_nBDy3Q
youtube

Honestly the amount of people who say artists and writers should do stuff for free, or try to rip them off on comissions still royally piss me off.
I think the worst part of it is the entitlement, I dont want to make this too much about generations but a lot of commissioners are millenial/Gen z's who grew up on the "steal and pirate everything" mentality, take everything that you can because no one else is going to hand it to you. which I can get behind, when you are screwing over MULTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES. NOT THE STRUGGLING ARTISTS AND WRITERS who are trying to keep food on the table as desperately as you probably are!
It's simple, you wouldn't walk into a restaurant, order food and tell the server "sorry I don't have any money, but I've got like a few thousand followers on social media, I can get your name out there, get the restaurant some exposure" NO! They don't need "exposure" they need you to pay the damn bill!
On top of that, most of these artists and writers ALREADY HAVE FOLLOWINGS. They already have thousands of people following them, waiting for the chance to get a commission, who are willing to pay for said commission, they don't need "exposure" when they're already out there! He'll even the artists and writers with a few hundred don't need it, they'll get more followers as time goes by, their skill alone will see to it.
And what is with people trying to get free art and writing? It's not going to work! You can't harass someone until they cave, trust me, you'll be long since blocked before you even have the opportunity. I don't do comissions, online anyways, but my own friends and family, people who actually know me STILL PAY ME whenever they ask for me to do art for them because they KNOW it takes TIME AND EFFORT.
How many times do we need to have this discussion???? Like when is it going to finally click that people who need to pay their bills just as much as you do AREN'T going to do this shit for free!?
Here's the thing about art and writing, that you've heard a billion times but still aren't getting; IT. TAKES. TIME. AND. EFFORT. TO. GET. DONE. the art isn't going to magically appear and the writing isn't going to suddenly write itself, if either were so convenient YOU WOULDNT BE ASKING AN ARTIST OR WRITER IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Look at that, you see that? The first picture I did back in 2012-13, the picture beside it? I did that TWO YEARS AGO. I didn't suddenly know exactly what to do, or had anything close to a god given talent for drawing (I'm not that talented). The first picture WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST I COULD DO AT THE TIME THAT I MADE IT. In the time between these two drawings I admittedly took a break from art, but then I got back into it four years ago. EVEN STILL that was four YEARS of starting over from the basics, relearning everything, learning new things, wanting to actually improve my art.
Which, guess what, DID NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT. It was HOURS UPON HOURS of my limited free time as an adult drawing over and over and over and over again, every single goddamn day to get to the point that I was able to make that redraw look as good as it does in comparison. He'll, my art now puts them both to shame! Because I spent the time improving my quality!!
Now look at these artists doing comissions, they've probably put EVEN MORE of their time to get that good! They've put in LITERAL YEARS of sweat, blood, tears, frustrations and dedicated hardwork. Some did the same as me, self teaching and lots of practice, others probably had to go to school, which definitely wasn't cheap. But all of us put in that time and effort TO REACH THESE POINTS. Of being better artists, developing our styles, getting faster at drawing.
And maybe you think that this is super easy, right? That I or every other artist can just fire some art off and boom its good and done in like an hour?
FUCK. NO.
Even now it takes me several hours a day OVER MANY DAYS to make something exceptionally good! It doesn't matter how good an artist is, it still. Takes. Time.
Maybe the issue is that you don't understand how much actually goes into art, let me break it down for you, the steps that most people follow to finish ONE drawing.
-Rough draft: general character outline, get a feel for what I want to draw.
-Rough sketch: I start doing a bit of pencil to start filling in details like mouth, nose, eyes, hair, clothes. Ect.
-Penciling: I go over the rough sketch and clean everything up, maybe do some editing, this is when you can start making out all the details.
-Ink: I trace over the finished pencil with a pen tool and actually have the line art, everything looks clean, presentable, it actually looks like a character now. I'll spend time editing this and possibly redoing the inking many times over to get to a point where I like it.
-Flat color: I decide on which colors to use for skin tone, clothes accessories. Ect.
-Shading/highlights: I figure out where my light source is and how strong it is, I then apply the correct amount of lighting and shadows to the color to give it depth, I also have determine the texture of skin, clothes and accessories to make everything look real and natural.
-Blending: I smooth out the shading and highlights so that it looks more natural and isn't too hard (noticeable difference between color) so that it looks as natural as possible.
-Finish: I go over last minute details, finish any editing or corrections that need to be done. Once it's good I call it a day.
Each process is longer in length then the previous, with the exception of the final editing (as long as everything looks good) and even the rough draft can take some time. Over all this is SEVERAL HOURS of work for a SINGLE DRAWING.
So is it sinking in yet? How much is put into doing even a single character drawing? God forbid if its done with background. This isn't a "scratch a pen around and be done with it in ten minutes" kinda deal, no, this is SEVERAL HOURS OF SOMEONES LIFE BEING PUT INTO THIS
And if you still have the AUDACITY to try and wrangle free art from an artist then there's no helping you, you're just a selfish piece of shit, no question and I want nothing to do with you.
Someone might say "But I got free art/writing from.-" look I don't give a shit if someone did something for you THAT ONE TIME, these other artists and writers? Totally seperate and different people. You're one freebie experience does not, and should not apply to other artists and writers.
"But what if I really want this commission but don't have the money right now?" Well, that's tough shit. Save up and properly commission them when you can, it's not their problem.
"But what if I'm in a really bad financial situation and really want it?" That sucks, and I'm sorry, but again, not their problem. Chances are this is their only source of income and they need to make money so that they don't end up in a similar situation.
"They have a gift! They should share it!" What kind of cheap ass- LOOK, just because someone is talented or really good at something does not automatically obligate them to do anything for total strangers in anyway shape or form. These are living, breathing people, the same as you. They need to eat, they need to pay rent/mortgages, they need to pay vet bills, send their kids to college, do their taxes and everything else that YOU YOURSELF need to do. Asking anyone to spend their time doing something for free, when that something is how THEY ARE SURVIVING is beyond asinine. Not only that, this obviously isn't a hobby to them, it is very clearly THEIR JOB. Would you want to do a job where you didn't get paid at all? Doing a shit ton of work for absolutely nothing? No? Didn't think so.
"It shouldn't be about the money!" Well unfortunately, as with almost every other job, it is. We live in a world where we desperately need to make money in order to survive. That's the painful fact of the matter. If money never had to be an issue ever again then this would be a very different story. But it's not, plain and simple as can be.
Look, these people are just like you, artists and writers who are just trying to get by in a shitty ass world, using the one thing they have that let's them have an income. Leave them be, don't try and trick them, guilt them, or cuss them out when you don't get your way. Either properly comission or leave them the hell alone, plain and simple.
