Art for Beautiful Roaring Scream - Chapter 4

I had originally planned to only have the photoshoot artwork for this chapter, but I couldn't resist depicting the moment that Simon's mind is blown with Baz's hoop skills.

This moment is lifted from real life. My duo trapeze coach had been casually juggling and telling my class about growing up as a circus performer in the Soviet Union. (He had been a part of a banquine act with his father.) The owner of the school chimed in with something to the effect of, "You should see him with a hoop!" But her tone made it sound as though he wouldn't be good at it. He had performed as an acrobat and an aerialist, so there really wasn't a reason to believe that he also had mad hoop skills. Naturally, he blew us all away.

It had fascinated me that artists would pick up skills that might never be performed in a show. Another one of my instructors was a silks artist by profession, but she came from a long line of jugglers, so she could still juggle nine balls even though she'd probably never use it in a show. (Bonus fun fact: she's in the opening sequence of The Greatest Showman!)

The photoshoot artwork was one of the first illustrations I'd done for this. I loved the idea of capturing this candid moment. Even though it was a huge challenge to depict them laughing and it's always difficult to strike the right balance of how detailed teeth can get before they start to look scary. I like to think that the photographer used this as part of the magazine spread.

It was also a lot of fun to put thought into what their makeup and costumes might look like. With this being a largely backstage story, it's mostly them in athleisure wear instead of the fanciful costumes. And yes, Baz would have had to shave his chest hair for the show, but I didn't have the heart to do that to him.

so now after everything people are back again at dissing him for being funny and making jokes 😭 why what's wrong with it he's a young man why do people not want him to joke also like he literally can't say anything bad like he just can't inmates are put in solitary or in active suicide watch if they say they're not doing well he literally can't say that so he always keeps assuring people he's doing fine and i sincerely hope he's actually doing as okay as he can but like why are people bothered when he jokes please let him be 😭 if he's coping with his terribly shitty situation with humour let him it's at least better than coping in other ways in fact crying there is also out of the question because he'd get bullied for being a pansy the only way dude gets to do anything even seemingly normal there is literally joking here and there why can't people just let him be 😭

Also I can finally start streaming again soon! I might be able to do it tomorrow morning (so around 7+ hrs from now). I've been digging so much abt finding ways to stream from a low-end pc & finally found a way to do it. Kinda excited to try it tomorrow even tho I'm not really sure it it'll even work smoothly :))

I get you about the hetero vibes of JD. Like there are CPs who act like they have been married for years and I am inclined to believe that and there are CPs who are just happy their job is to flirt with their homies and they lean into it. The latter is JD to me. Like no matter how much they would flirt, I won't believe they are actually together. I can belive they are best friends, even soulmates but not a couple

yep, exactly! i mean, JD also act like they've been married for years in a way, but as i mentioned in my other reply, it just feels like more of an inside joke and feels much more platonic than romantic

and they most definitely have fun flirting with each other. i think it's as entertaining for them as it is for us. especially for joong. i think it's a well known fact that no matter how insane you think you are about JD, you can be sure that joong is more insane about JD than you are. and i fully support him in that <3

(spoilers for the new update btw; this is tagged as spoilers too but just to be safe) By the way, headcanon-wise, I don't think the parasite is out of Sozo's system that easily.

like. I understand to some extent imprisoning him is forcefully sobering him up by denying him further intoxication, which would be one thing, but this is not Just Drugs . this is Drug Parasite. That is a thang inside him that is alive

Mans was resurrected . Not through our usual means. But through the mushroom. There is no way, if it is the literal Thing that brings him back to life, that he is separated from the parasite by just popping off the outward manifestation of it on his head .

Surely planting the parasite would only bring IT back. But it brings him with it when it is revived, because not only is he its host, he's the best damn host its had. Considering just how he goes to fucking town on those mushrooms (or the mushroomos)

I mean we could argue that re-education while in prison is a literal cleansing process somehow, but For Me. Personally. As someone who feeds too much on angst. I keep imagining a scene wherein Dr. Sozonius is just sprouting a new mushroom again (if not various across his exoskeleton) and just .freaking out. Because while he doesn't remember any of what he was like or what he did during that time, he knows that it fucked him UP because why WOULD IT NOT fuck him up .

he lost his family. his home. he has no idea where he is. he woke up in some strange place feeling like he was gonna vomit. because he was so full of mushrooms why wouldn't he.

but there's something still there. there's something depending on him to the point that HE depends on IT

and just gradually... as the mushroom(s) sprouts again... he starts slipping into his old mannerisms......... he starts craving..... and he knows he Should Not. he knows he's so old now it would just kill him (not knowing it already killed him once). surely he wouldn't handle it again.

but it's so . tempting. the mushrooms. he needs them. he can hear it. them. whispering. to him.

if i had a nickel for every game i played this month that was released in the 2020s where the evil aligned "fanservice vampire," character, about halfway through their romance path is revealed to be putting on the fanservice vampire act as a way to cover up their severe emotional problems, cope with centuries of sexual objectification and abuse, and manipulate the player character, then their manipulation plan then falls apart due to them catching feelings because the PC genuinely just wants to help them rather than objectify them like he assumed at first.

also that character in their bad end is willing to kill hundreds of people in an attempt to get revenge on their abuser and take on a form that they think will give them safety and freedom for the rest of their lives.

Oh my god, Possum was so fucking good. I love artsy films because you can just watch them and accept that the movie occupies a third space where the things you see may or may not be objective reality. Is this spider literally talking, is this person literally dead, did this ghost literally time travel? I just love how artsy films can evoke ideas through visuals without being constrained by the rules of reality. It's kind of like a dream sequence or an ambiguous "are you talking to a ghost" sequence in most Regular Fiction shows.

I mean, Possum 2018 is literally just an hour and a half of a man doing performance art about coping with childhood trauma that he never got over and abstract representations of CSA. I fucking love this shit.
