Okay, okay, here goes, I'll do my best to translate the music and pictures. Just put the song on a loop while I'm talking here...
It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word
And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry
I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye
Mostly I'm thinking of Peter (of course), and so like the first verse is very centred around Aslan and how Peter's faith grows, even in spite of the falterings, in fact one would argue the faltering only leads to greater strength when he choses to believe anyway.
BUT THE SECOND VERSE!!!
Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never been this way before
Just him coming back from Narnia the last time, and knowing it's time to do the same growing up in England that he did in Narnia, even if it looks different this time.
All you can do is try to know who your friends are
As you head off to the war
CRYING
This the the part that is GETTING ME
See, I've put Peter's age at 16 in LWW, so that means he turns 18 in '42, and I REALLY should write a song fic for this, because I'm just imagining him spending the summer after he graduates with Professor Kirke, studying various things with a heavy emphasis on working toward becoming a doctor (but like probably a country doctor who takes care of a whole bunch of people, and is rather like a caring king in that way), and working at a nearby farm, and working through his thoughts about signing up, and deciding in the end that yes, he will go, he might not enjoy it, but at the same time, he is still a king at heart, still a fighter and a leader, and most importantly he knows he's a lot more mentally prepared for war than most boys his age.
So after Christmas, after everyone is back home, and they've all had time together, in January, he goes and signs up, and they see him off at the station, and he and his siblings are all actually quite calm, and that quiet kind of strength and hope is catching, and Helen finds it a lot easier to say goodbye than she thought it would be.
Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light
You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say goodbye
Peter, out in a dark battlefield, huddled in the cold night, picking out stars, and he's not as good at astronomy as Ed, he knows he knew Narnia's stars much better, even if he can't remember them all, but he picks out a star to the west, back toward Britain and home and family, and he writes letters to Lucy about stars and trees, and letters to Edmund about strategy disguised as references to Narnian campaigns, as well as the cold thing that sits in the pit of his stomach on the hardest days, and sometimes theological discussions. The letters to Mother and Susan are about food and funny little experiences, and asking about what's happening back home. The letters to Dad are shortest, mostly Bible verses and simple statements that require no explanation to another soldier.
You'll come back
When it's over
No need to say goodbye
And he's somehow always sure, never afraid of how this could end (sure, he has moments, but he has a foundation that he clings to), and he does come back, he does, the war ends, and he runs across the station platform to his family, and Lucy is the first one, and then Mother and Susan, and then Dad, and then Ed, last but somehow most of all.
All that war experience just makes him more determined to pursue medicine
Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget
I dunno, this is just like him settling into building a life, and he and Ed and Lucy all staying close, even as Susan gets distant and it's harder to find things to talk about with her. (But they still love her, fiercely, Peter sometimes feels guilty that it's Susan, who he never really worried about, that maybe he should have been taking better care of her too.)
Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
'Til they're before your eyes
You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye
The wreck. The return. The death of old Narnia and its rebirth. The joy of Aslan’s country where they'll never have to say goodbye again.
You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye
(And Susan. She'll find the way. She will. The Lion is not done with her.)
There.
None of this is as good as the video playing in my head, but oh well. I tried.
I have been obsessing over that song from Prince Caspian, 'The Call', all evening, and I have so many THOUGHTS and FEELINGS, but they are expressing themselves as a music video in my head and I don't know HOW to translate that?!?!
Ahh, does anyone else want to know about this? Get me started and I might be able to make a little sense.

❛ Hold still, we may have won but you need someone to look at that wound. ❜ ( edmund )
post battle/”we survived” meme | accepting | @alderavalkyrie
the boy looked up at her from his spot on the ground, his dark eyes somewhat pained. truth be told, he HAD been injured worse before, though lucy had always been there with her cordial to HEAL him. but now it was just him, his wound, & a different dark-haired woman who seemed to have no magical healing powers with her.

“i’m — i’m okay, really.” he grunted, his hand gripping at the wound on his torso as he tried to get up from the ground. he’d never been one to do listen to others about his own well-being.

do you ever just sit and think about how the three verses in “The Call” by Regina Spektor (which was used as the credits song in "Prince Caspian") perfectly corresponds to one of the three movies because i do and i'm really not okay
It started out as a feeling Which then grew into a hope Which then turned into a quiet thought Which then turned into a quiet word And then that word grew louder and louder 'Til it was a battle cry I'll come back when you call me No need to say goodbye
obviously, we have Lucy being drawn to the wardrobe in the first movie, just by a simple feeling. There's a reason she chose that room to rush into, a reason she hid inside the wardrobe.
The entirety of the first movie, there's an underlying tension surrounding everyone whenever there is a conversation happening. Hope is HUGE in the first movie, because the prophecy, the idea that the Witch will one day be defeated, is really what is pushing the Narnians to continue on, to continue fighting.
the "I'll come back when you call me" also works as a perfect carry-over into "Prince Caspian", since Caspian was the one who called the siblings back to Narnia.
Just because everything's changing Doesn't mean it's never been this way before All you can do is try to know who your friends are As you head off to the war Pick a star on the dark horizon and follow the light You'll come back when it's over No need to say goodbye
"everything's changing" because everything has changed. the Pevensies return to a Narnia that has spent two hundred years without their kings and queens, and nothing is the same. the trees don't speak, Aslan's gone, and there are new foes and allies.
They're figuring out their path, Susan and Peter are figuring out where they're going after Narnia, and Lucy and Edmund having to now learn to navigate their lives without their older siblings around them.
(and then "pick a star on the dark horizon" makes me think about Caspian, Ed, and Lucy meeting Lilliandil and her guiding them to the other swords)
Now we're back to the beginning It's just a feeling and no one knows yet But just because they can't feel it too Doesn't mean that you have to forget Let your memories grow stronger and stronger 'Til they're before your eyes You'll come back when they call you No need to say goodbye
"Dawn Treader" ending with Edmund and Lucy, the first of the siblings to enter Narnia and the last to leave, is really so perfect. They're returning to England, they'll be leaving to be with their family, they won't experience Narnia again for a little while, so it's all about their memories of their home. We know Susan forgets Narnia (which i'm still annoyed about), so it's about the rest of them not forgetting, remembering their country, knowing that they'll be able to return one day, and again, holding onto that hope.

For some reason I feel like I need to defend myself cause I'm not a belieber by any means and I get irritated when we get an earnest and honest pop culture discussion and it will always end with "you're just a biased stan" "you're a hater." Cause you've been so objective and we were really just discussing the main pop boys around. I am not a stan of any of these boys. But I think it's fair to admit Purpose was a huge era. Bigger than any other pop boy save for Divide probably if we call Ed a popstar. Sorry was a huge single and I would argue it's the same level or may be even more impactful than Blinding Lights.
I am in no way denying Fine Line is a big era. But I will still say it's no Purpose and none of his singles touch Sorry or Love Yourself. I also think 1989, MBDTF, Purpose are on a different level because they were both quality albums and the narrative and publicity surrounding them. In short it was meant to be huge and it just needed the artist and their team to cooperate and bring out quality. 1989 was Taylor pushing herself to every single thing imaginable, creating a pr that made her reach every base, living her life on a fishbowl, a narrative of I'm an adult now and I'm a popstar. MBDTF was Kanye's comeback after America or maybe even the world deemed him a villain. It was Kanye proving he is a genius and the quality of his music will be above of any of his bullshit. It was emotional return as no matter what people try to twist, they made his stunt at the VMAs into an opportunity for racist attacks towards him. It's regarded as one or even the best album to be released on the 2010s. Purpose was Bieber's redemption arc after he was so close to destroying both his image and himself. They made the whole thing into a redemption arc, even the roast of Justin Bieber and Carpool Karaoke was meant to show oh he's got his head chilled now. People wanted him to fail, but they released singles that were undeniably bops and would be a hit to the gp one after another. In a year where Drake, Rih, Adele, Ariana all released music he had the top 2 singles on the Billboard Year End charts.
We're having an earnest pop culture discussion here and I hope it won't end with stan wars. I agree with other anons, Charlie blows them all out of the park in terms of raw talent but he just doesn't have enough IT factor and his personality is annoying. But I think a lot of people assume Bieber got here just cause of Scooter's manipulation and cause the tabloids were on him a lot. Both of those were major factors but Bieber is a legitimate talent and he was born with all the right factors to be a musician. He has both the star factor and the innate musical talent. Like your anons said he's a natural and is a white guy born with both rhythm and the melody. He had the luck of the right timing but he also undoubtedly worked hard to get where he is. We all dislike this guy's personality, but pop culture wise he is BIG and he didn't get there because of a fluke and it's valid to discuss him because he is relevant to pop culture.
“I also think 1989, MBDTF, Purpose are on a different level because they were both quality albums and the narrative and publicity surrounding them. In short it was meant to be huge and it just needed the artist and their team to cooperate and bring out quality.” I really agree with this!
Just to add, MBDTF had a roll out of a lifetime. He made G.O.O.D. Friday a thing and was dropping quality demos every Friday for a few months to tease the album and people were sitting around in anticipation every week to see what Ye would be putting out next and who would feature as well. It also doubled as a marketing tactic for Ye’s label, GOOD Music, and pushed a lot of those artist’s career i.e. Big Sean, Cy Hi the Prince, Lloyd Banks, etc. Half of those songs didn’t even end up on the album itself but anyone who was into hip-hop at the time probably still remember how iconic those tracks were and can agree that a lot of them were some of his best work (Christian Dior Denim flow, G.O.O.D. Friday, Looking For Trouble - which most hip-hope heads would agree helped launched J.Cole’s career since his verse destroyed everyone else’s except maybe Pusha T). People have never experienced an album roll-out of that level before and it truly changed the way artists, especially rappers, plan out their roll-outs. Not to mention Runaway got a feature-length film treatment for its visual, which was unheard of the time.
Ok but remember when Justin Bieber was one of the very first pop artists to hop onto the hip-hop/trap wave before it blew up? He had a feature on the G.O.O.D. Friday roll-out and a feature on Travis Scott’s Rodeo? He truly was ahead of the curve tbh. Like I think JB rightfully should get dragged for being a culture vulture but he also put a lot of black artists on and brought attention to them when most white artists would have not wanted to associate with them. Now hip-hop is hot and EVERYONE wants an eight bar on their bridge lol
