the post i reblogged about fast fashion just reminded me that

a) i have had my raincoat since 2016

b) my raincoat is significantly past its best in ways that cannot be solved with additional waterproofing spray, and also doesn't fit me very well anymore

c) my winter coat, while reasonably warm, is not waterproof, and also doesn't fit very well in a completely different way, and is black which is not good when you are a cycle commuter cos they can't see you

d) all of these combine to mean i keep looking covetously at waterproof insulated coats in tesco even though they are definitely unsustainably produced and also not that good bc that's where my substandard winter coat is from

concluded i should thoughtfully invest in a new, warmer raincoat before i get tempted into buying another shit coat or spend the whole winter cold and wet

went to passenger bc i bought a fleece and trousers from them a few months back and have basically not worn anything else all summer (and thy seem to have reasonably good sustainability credentials, as far as is possible with mostly-synthetic outdoor clothing). found an insulated raincoat in their outlet section discounted 60% to make it almost affordable. and it's partially ORANGE

remembered my rucksack also sucks because it's too small, black, and not waterproof (and doesn't have side pockets for my cane or my water bottle), and my old one that was not too small or black but also not waterproof has well and truly fallen apart after serving me faithfully since i was about 16. well, since i'm here... oh look they have a rucksack in the outlet section as well. AND IT'S ORANGE

god i love it when i can get things that are orange

anyway that's my clothing/accessory purchases for the rest of the year. i hope they're good.

#the raincoat WAS from the women's section which might mean it doesn't fit my figure very well #but as i am very small i tend to find the sleeves are too long on mens' jackets #and since it's insulated hopefully i won't need multiple layers of jumpers underneath which sometimes causes issues #(my tendency to wear men's hoodies and fleeces does mean they usually stick out the bottom tho)#ahh the challenges of having a very tiny chest and short arms but like. average-sized shoulders so proportionally they're quite wide #everything is too tight across the shoulders and again. i'm a cycle commuter. i'm leaning forward with my arms out #tight across the shoulders is not good #i would've got a size up if they had any left but bc it's in the outlet/sale i think it's discontinued so i couldn't #if it doesn't fit well i will return it rather than wear a Bad Coat. this is a promise to myself #pearsanta #note for a very specific subset of my followers: I'M SORRY I JUST REALLY LIKE ORANGE #THIS IS EXTREMELY NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT #I JUST ENJOY IT AS A COLOUR AND IT MAKES ME HAPPY #I ALSO WEAR A LOT OF GREEN

I don't know who needs to hear this but... You don't need to finish that WIP. not everything you create has to be a Work In Progress. you can just sketch something or write out a draft and then never go any farther than that. you don't have to finish everything you create. not everything is meant to be finished.

also, starting a new WIP when you have another isn't bad. it doesn't stop you from going back to the old one. sometimes you get excited for an idea, sometimes you just need to get that idea down. Do it. start another WIP. nothing is stopping you from going back to the old one later.

the only one putting these barriers up is yourself. Stop holding yourself back. You'll find yourself a lot happier if you stop forcing yourself to follow these invisible rules on what you can and should be focusing on finishing.

No need to worry, the screams of fury emanating from her room are just because she made the terrible decision to read someone else’s list of the ‘100 Best Classic Fiction Works in English’

#Usually it wouldn't bother me that we disagree on some of the items on the list- that's a good thing!#And the point in looking at lists like this is to find out other people's opinions and recommendations #And you always know they're going to be biased #And the fact that it's male dominated isn't all that surprising especially for adult literature #However #What really got to me was this particular individual this utter HAM included children's literature #And that's where the gender bias not only became obvious; but it also became clear that this wasn't a list of classic books #This was just a list of the only books this guy had read #Female writers wrote a hefty portion of what we traditionally call children's classics #I know this because I actually read fiction as a child (adulthood less so)#And unlike this journalist I was diagnosed with Little Girl and therefore expected to read books by both men AND women #I'm not angry at this guy; he's obviously made the attempt to unlearn some of his assumptions #Especially with adult fiction #I'm more saddened by how obvious it is that boys of his generation were expected to only read books about boys; by men #And then we wonder why they grow up with a bias towards works by men as adults?#I just thought children's classics had to be an exception; even if they read stuff by men in other areas SURELY they'd read classics #like the Secret Garden or the Railway Children or Black Beauty especially in cases where the woman only used initials so you couldn't tell #It was a stupid fucking idea to put children's literature on the same list as adult classics anyway as children's lit is such a huge genre #But I'm sorry I read Robert Louis Stevenson (loved it) and Jack London and Mark Twain and Kenneth Grahame just like this guy #So I don't understand how he managed to miss out on everything except Little Women (which is sometimes marketed to adults which may explain)#It's not news of course that boys are often not expected to read books that aren't about boys we know this #What really got me is a) I would have thought the books often (rightly or wrongly) marketed as 'classics' would have been exempt from this #And b) now I know this dude didn't do his due diligence when creating this list because he clearly didn't think he needed to go back #and expand his knowledge of children's literature before throwing his list together based on what he personally read as a boy #Like personally if I was going to make the controversial decision to add children's lit to an already controversial list of classics #I for one know that I should go back and read the things I missed out on as a kid #For example my knowledge of children's classics is thoroughly determined by mid-twentieth century British views #Hence I read a lot of stuff from the Edwardian era #Hence I also didn't read many books by non-white writers- something which I now know to have been dictated by outside circumstances #So I would be very hesitant to just list off as 'the best children's books' all the ones I alone had read

Remembering how good Everything Everywhere All At Once was. Like so good. Like so important on so many levels. It brought me to tears more than any other piece of art has. It made me fully realize and accept that im aromantic because it shows what love really means in so many ways. It broke my heart because in showing me how I'm not romantic it showed me how much non romantic love I had for my partner at the time. I'm forever changed by this film. And of course the general message about nihilism is something I've grappled with all my life and I truly believe in the movie's message. Go watch it right now please.

Why you all got ok mothers leave some for the rest of us

#hello?????#my mother had me exorcised when i was 16 #or 17 #my father beat my mother when i was a kid and would randomly lash out based on literally nothing #calling me (aged 3-14) and my mother cunts and whores and all kinds of slurs and threatening to beat or kill us #and every once in a while he'd just get up and leave for a week without telling anyone. we had only one car so mother had #to find alternative ways to get to work (grandparents had no car at the time) (we lived in a tiny rural village)#when he came back he never apologized and just told my mother 'you know how i am. what else do you even expect?'#he also threatened to beat me up whenever i cried or got scared or sad or embarrassed. i was not allowed to be anything but #happy. anger was also allowed but obviously not towards my parents. if i did that i would get locked in a room for several hours #if i self-harmed while locked in there i got yelled at but that just told me that i needed to self-harm more to please my parents #i think i internalised that because when i disobeyed them when i was very small (like...3-5 years) they'd spank me with a wooden spoon or #give me a strong head slap or two. i came to expect violence and when they stopped because it just made me more volatile #i felt the need to enact that expected violence upon myself.#i was unimaginably afraid for my life and for my mother's life until i was about 14. i used to pray for my father's death #but then again i prayed for my mother's death too #i had nightly night terrors about coming home from school and seeing blood everywhere and him kneeling over my mother's corpse #a lot of my good dreams revolved around killing him. i dreamed of coming home before he could kill her and stopping him #in a way i dreamed of being at least 50% safe.#both of my parents also beat me for being neurodivergent and lashes oit whenever i asked too many questions or couldn't #understand something. i always got either the r slur or i got told that I'm just playing a r*tard #to spite and anger them. everything i did in my life was specifically to anger them in their eyes.#i hated both of them so so much and i loved both of them so much and I didn't know how to put it all together #i hated that the father who took me to fairs and played football with me was the father whose touch had a 70 % chance of being violent #i flinched when seeing a hand move until i was 19 and screamed when getting hugged by anyone until i turned 17 #my mother's physical violence was something other adults found funny - if she didn't spank me with a spoon; she'd #hit my arms until they got all red and numb and my crying just made her angrier. she still does this. I'm 22.#but when i accidentally ask the wrong question - the retarded one - when i do something to set her off she just hits my #arm until it doesn't even hurt anymore because i stop feeling it altogether. i don't cry because of the pain but because I'm scared #and sorry and embarrassed and guilty. and anyway we don't have tags left for my mother's abuse

Well. I think I'll talk about my kidney cysts another day, I'm still really frustrated with my insurance but I'm trying to be patient and not catastrophize about what all could be wrong since it could be just a week or 2 before my doctor/insurance works out a way to get the CT scan authorized

Anyway, I have my labs tomorrow, and I really don't feel well (pain + exhaustion + nausea) but I don't want to reschedule them again, both because I know I'll just also not feel well next week, and because maybe the lab results would help provide more justification for the CT scan to be authorized, but

I know my uterus tilted backwards to the point it put pressure on my intestines #instead of my bladder (which caused .
