#i'm someone who can get obsessive over colors in my own art

I think 90% of my gripes with how modern anime looks comes down to flat color design/palettes.

Non-cohesive, washed-out color palettes can destroy lineart quality. I see this all the time when comparing an anime's lineart/layout to its colored/post-processed final product and it's heartbreaking. Compare this pre-color vs. final frame from Dungeon Meshi's OP.

So much sharpness and detail and weight gets washed out and flattened by 'meh' color design. I LOVE the flow and thickness and shadows in the fabrics on the left. The white against pastel really brings it out. Check out all the detail in their hair, the highlights in Rin's, the different hues to denote hair color, the blue tint in the clothes' shadows, and how all of that just gets... lost. It works, but it's not particularly good and does a disservice to the line-artist.

I'm using Dungeon Meshi as an example not because it's bad, I'm just especially disappointed because this is Studio Trigger we're talking about. The character animation is fantastic, but the color design is usually much more exciting. We're not seeing Trigger at their full potential, so I'm focusing on them.

Here's a very quick and messy color correct. Not meant to be taken seriously, just to provide comparison to see why colors can feel "washed out." Top is edit, bottom is original.

You can really see how desaturated and "white fluorescent lighting" the original color palettes are.

[Remember: the easiest way to make your colors more lively is to choose a warm or cool tint. From there, you can play around with bringing out complementary colors for a cohesive palette (I warmed Marcille's skintone and hair but made sure to bring out her deep blue clothes). Avoid using too many blend mode layers; hand-picking colors will really help you build your innate color sense and find a color style. Try using saturated colors in unexpected places! If you're coloring a night scene, try using deep blues or greens or magentas. You see these deep colors used all the time in older anime because they couldn't rely on a lightness scale to make colors darker, they had to use darker paints with specific hues. Don't overthink it, simpler is better!]

I think one of the key things to learning to appreciate art and media is recognizing intention. it's very easy to dismiss things in a day and age of just constant blasts of media to your face, and now even with machine learning ("ai") companies trying to position themselves as replacements for artists. when you learn about art it isn't done from 10 feet away, looking at the whole of the image, and asking whether it's to your tastes. it's looking at things under a microscope, each brush stroke and word, all of the little things intentionally done to create the larger piece. additionally being in a capitalist society, art is frequently impressive for its rejection of that, sometimes even to the point of the artist sacrificing their own livelihood for it. you have to go out of your way in this kind of society to make stuff that isn't economically assured, that you may have no return from. one of the most helpful things I learned re: the intentional detail was from a wacky conservative cinema professor who was also obsessed with gay subtext (like, I'm gay and he saw gay in places I absolutely did not) (never sure if this was a good or bad obsession). he told us to watch each frame of the film as if it was a written page, where every element of the frame had meaning and was intentionally placed - like a word might be in a book. the color, angle, theme, dialogue, etc. when you look at all art like that, like it's trying to talk to you in another language, intentionally created to convey meaning to people who don't even speak that language, you get a lot more out of it. and while I didn't have that framework before the cinema course, that idea was already where a lot of my appreciation for fanfic and fanart came from. someone sat down, rejected doing something else they needed to survive, wrote and agonized over every word or brush stroke in this, and then on top of that, shared it with the world. there's both the textual story and the subtextual story underneath that make it so awesome. not to say that authors or writers feel this as they do it, but from an outside perspective regardless of their own thoughts, that's certainly one way it can be analyzed. and for me personally this makes enthusing at length about a fic very easy. I have similar reactions to Van Gogh and Monet. It's just one inanimate thing, it seems maybe small and limited in its interpretation, but if you have the passion and the willingness to lean wayyyyy in, it's absolutely bigger than anything. I can easily write whole papers for my legal class or in fic comments. really understanding this way of perceiving helped me a lot with random life stuff and made it a lot fuller, I wish we could somehow do better teaching people to open up this way. art deserves that kind of understanding, fanart especially.

I FOUND A THING

So I love making book covers for fanfic I read, largely so that my shelves on Calibre have some variation to them just at a glance. One of my favorite ways to implement specific art for a fic is by using it in a cover modeled after the Penguin Paperback Classics. However, I never wanted to have the "Penguin Classics" label and the Penguin logo, because...well, because it's not Penguin.

But I still want that look, so what I've done with mine is replace "Penguin Classics" with "Archive Classics" (as in Archive of Our Own), and replaced the Penguin logo with the AO3 logo (which you can download as a PNG or SVG on Wikimedia). All variants that use the Penguin orange somewhere in the design I've replaced with the color on the AO3 logo (HEX #990000, for anyone curious). I've spent many hours manually sizing fonts and graphics and such, comparing one thing to another and having varying amounts of satisfaction with my results from project to project. I'm anal like that, and if it's a millimeter off from where it needs to be, I notice it and it's always the first thing I see later, so I try to get it as exact as possible.

But now, in another one of my link-hopping search journeys, I found the exact dimensions needed! And I'm so excited I have to share it with anyone who might see this, so if you already know about it, hush—this isn't for you.

On Jim Stoddart's website (the art director at Penguin Books), there's a section that shows the design specifications for a bunch of styles that are used with their publishing. The one I want to draw your attention to is the Penguin Classics (the 2019 template redesign).

Not only is there the specifications for all three sides of the design, but also for alternative titling layouts for both the cover and the spine. There's even a basic grid layout without all the example text/graphics, so it's easy to build off of.

I've included the images mentioned below the cut, but if you're interested in more of this kind of thing, you should also check out the pages for the Penguin Modern Classics, Little Black Classics, Penguin 'AL' Paperbacks, Lines, and the Archive. I'm obsessed and amazed I haven't found these before.

Also, if anyone is interested in my version of the template, here's the PNG version of it, which you can place over the top of your chosen art/picture, before adding the title and author on top of that. For the measurements to be accurate, the dimensions of your final cover should come out to be 1524 × 2339 px, so adjust accordingly.

I hope this is of use to someone else too, and if not, I hope y'all can appreciate my excitement for this!

Mmmmmmmmmm i dunno why I haven't asked this sooner. Who's your own current favorite OC?

currently that would probably be sichen because i love angsty guys with blood on their hands. i don't have much art for him yet tho because he's fairly new and i'm still figuring him out, so its just this so far i think.

some physical notes: one of his ears is gone, you can still see the remnants a bit from the side view, but not much from the front. he does not have an eye color and he does not show his eyes. if he flips his hair back? no he didn't. but if he does, a bird will fly by to cover them. or an avalanche will occur, or everyone will sneeze. his eyes do not get revealed, even if physics must be broken to keep them hidden.

he is. Up To Things. and a menace. and he won't stop betraying people, but i love him dearly. and he would probably not even care about that at all.

in terms of all-time though (which i know you didn't ask but. i take any opportunity to talk about him), that would be beltran. i think he's my prettiest guy ever and i'm noticing a trend between him and sichen and that's the fact that they are both consumed by an obsession that has taken over their entire life and become their reason to live.

for sichen, that obsession is originally around resurrecting someone he loves, but then it turns into revenge :)

for beltran, he is consumed by a need to find out about the past, and his ancestors place in it. his family swore themselves to serve someone, but then that person disappeared. it's been hundreds of years, but he wants to find that person no matter what.

people also often misunderstand beltran as evil i guess from vibes but he is not! he has been consumed by the ancient texts, yes, that is true, but he is really sweet. he is kind of a dick though when it matters. but in terms of overall morality he is a good guy.

beltran also can turn into a wolf but it makes him very sick and his girlfriend gets extremely worried so he doesn't do it unless its a life or death situation. if he does it too much he will die (not joking)

beltran i attempted to make in a picrew!! he is probably one of my worst picrew characters just because of the blue-black + two-tone hair and purple eyes. it's so hard to get a picrew that actually has stuff with the right shades

he is very heavily associated with the night, and the stars, he's someone you find in the hallways of the manor after dark, and you see him as a strange figure in the moonlight being cast through a stained glass window. when he's feeling well, he's in the library or the study, pouring over a stack of tattered scrolls, his wispy sleeves pulled up to keep them out of the ink which he scrawls his notes in, translating language after language. he is someone who keeps trying to work even when his body is falling apart, and the eyes of his loved ones fill with worry, but he is chained to the things he must know, and they drag him deeper into the abyss. "i'm so close to finding it." he'll mumble, the dark circles under his eyes taking more of the light from his face every day, as karina tries to get him to rest, reassuring him that there will be time tomorrow, and that it will all be easier once he's been able to sleep. watch him, he is a ghost already, he will not answer when someone says goodbye. "this is what i've been looking for." he whispers, reaching out. his fingers will run against rocks that haven't been seen in a thousand years, tracing the inscriptions that say he was right all along. and he'll see the person he's been searching for. it's finally his turn to live.

5. favorite little detail in a drawing you did

this one was kind of hard to answer because i lean so much more to simplification over 1:1 detail... that said, i really loved these ones!

the bag from the top photo is from here, minato nui on left is from some con-related draws, the ballpoint splatling on right is from a vintage draws compilation!

i just really enjoy drawing little objects and props, and as much as i'm allergic to backgrounds, i hope to overcome that next year because my friends know i love getting obsessed over random objects for a few days...

9. any new art mediums youve tried (or overall styles if you havent tried new mediums)

i haven't gotten to do much mediums outside of digital art unfortunately.... but i would say this year was the year of chibification! i turned so many characters into little guys this year (shoutout to the nui tree!). which is really ironic because i also realized this year i find full illustrations more satisfying to work on throughout the process, despite the "simplicity" of chibis.

i did some limited color styles too! (blue, purple, and red + b/w). hopefully i can do more deliberate color palette stuffs though. i think it'd be a great exercise.

stylistically wise i think i could've tried more, but. its ok! thats what 2024 is for. yipee!

it feels like a cop out answer to say this but any gift art i got of my splatoon character... this art from tin of ryomina with flowers is so. oh my god. i was SO BEWILDERED AND HAPPY!!! i was minding my own business and then saw this rt'd on one of my friend's pages... i forget who lol but i was like "WAIT TIN Kick_TheeCan DREW RYOMINA??? I LOVE THEIR ART OF THE P3 PROTAG WHAT." i feel like i got pushed down a staircase in tartarus (positive)

I'll start with @shyranno, whose art I absolutely adore. her style is so clean and expressive and colorful, and she makes amazing comics. the TBB Downtime series is exactly my kinda Clone content, filled with lots of fluff and feels. the "baby" batch ones are my favorite, but I'm also fond of this one where Tech gets teased from not being able to grow a beard 😜

another artist I really love is @zaana! she also draws a lot of really sweet and funny moments with TBB, and I'm super fond of her more sketchy style of drawing. she's got a "Crosshair defects the Empire" AU about Cross rejoining TBB sometime during season 2 that I love soooooo much. honestly, all her stuff with Crosshair (especially the ones with Omega) is top tier. although I think my top favorite is this one with Hunter and Crosshair (which @questforgalas also wrote an amazing oneshot about!); it's so simple but so sweet, and I automatically love any wholesome content between these two 🥰

then there's @lightspringrain, who makes beautiful portraits of TBB. I've been wanting to buy some of her prints (and will absolutely do so once I have the money!!) because they are seriously gorgeous. her "Crown" series is the best, it's so lovely! and she does an amazing job capturing the style of the show! to no one's surprise, my favorites are the Hunter and Omega moon crowns. the Hunter one is legit one of my favorite art piece ever; it's been my lockscreen on my phone ever since I saw it 💙

someone I recently started following is @thattoothpick! after seeing her "TBB Happy on Pabu" comics, I had to see more. the best way I can describe her style is "soft". everything is just so soft; the lines, the colors, all of it. it just makes me happy 😊 I have two favorite pieces; the first is this one about Hunter and Crosshair from the Pabu series. literally made me cry. I need this to happen SO badly 🥺 and then this one that I refer to as "the Sad Batch"... oh man. also had me crying (but also simping for obvious reasons LOL) 😭

now for a big one. I can easily say my favorite SW related artist of all time is @lornaka. her art... holy crap y'all. it's so freaking good. she makes everything from simple portraits to stunning dynamic pieces, and I'm obsessed with all of it. she even was featured during SW Celebration last year!! she's that good!! \o/ I have a few favorites of hers. which obviously includes the TBB poster she made for Celebration. still sad I couldn't get my own copy of it 💔 then there's this... lovely portrait of Hunter from behind. oh Lordy 🥵 and finally, my top favorite is actually this simple portrait of Hunter. I had it as my lockscreen for a LONG time. it's just... so good. the colors, the stars, his expression... I'm still obsessed 😍

finally, I can't talk about amazing artists without mentioning my sister @jam-n-ham. her art account is @joyjababanoid. y'all. please just scroll through her TBB art, you will not regret it. I've always adored her cartoony and expressive style, and it makes for hilarious Clone content LOL. she did a bunch of drawings for Inktober last year, solely focused around TBB. she's also done some comics that I've had a part in helping her develop (specifically the Padme pin-up art and the AZI going on a mission). but my absolute favorite is by far the Valentines collection. y'aaaaaaaall. I had the Hunter one as my phone background for over a year haha. she knows how to personally get to me, let's just say that 🥵

oh, and one last thing I wanna mention is that the one thing these folks all have in common, aside from being fantastic artists, is that I love how each of them draw my bae. seriously, y'all draw Hunter so good, and I'm smooching each of your different versions of him 🥰😘

sam x mika playlist

first tumblr post hehe. i’ve been a huge fan of seduce me for years, i remember being in high school obsessed with the game. erik was my fav at first actually but then sam became my husband for all these years after playing his route.

i have a very diverse music taste so the songs may seem a little all over the place, but i hope you all enjoy nonetheless! i’m sure with the variety there will be something for everyone

1. Therapy - Khalid

Mika is Sam's therapy, period. Although he initially tried to hide his feelings for her, he later recognizes his deep emotional dependence on her and how much he actually needs their relationship.

2. Hatefuck - Cruel Youth

"Will you love me tomorrow?" - Sam rhetorically asks Mika if he is worthy of her love, questioning whether he can live up to her expectations and fears that he may not be good enough for her.

3. Demons - Imagine Dragons

A more obvious choice, but like...c'mon. Sam is reluctant to tell Mika the truth about him and his past, however, it is impossible to do this because his past is who he is. Sam was scared to show his flaws and insecurities to Mika. Sam has a dark side to him but Mika does not get the full truth of this until Sam reveals everything about his past to her

4. Irresistible - Fall Out Boy

Sam initially had no intention of falling for Mika, seeing her as merely a source of energy. However, as they spend more time together, they develop a strong connection and unexpectedly fall in love with each other.

5. Sweater Weather - The Neighbourhood

In Sam's route, he falls deeply in love with Mika, finding comfort and solace in their intimate moments. Sam needs that feeling of warmth from the intimacy he shares with Mika.

6. Do I Wanna Know? - Arctic Monkeys

Sam trying to figure out how Mika feels about him by attempting to determine if she's showing him overt behaviour that would suggest that she has feelings for him (blushing, etc). I believe Sam would do this because of his anxiety about Mika's interest in him, specifically when she can be with a "real man" like James instead of him (Sam was seriously gonna ask James for lessons on how to be a real man and I will never, ever forget this)

7. Fell for You - Green Day

Ugh, this one. This song is actually how I picture Sam falling in love with someone, the vibe of this song just suits him perfectly. Sam fell for Mika and ever since then, his thoughts have been surrounded by her. Of course, our baby tsun tsun is gonna deny that he's fallen for her and has insecurities about their relationship because he believes Mika is too good for him ("I'm a mess and you're a work of art) and that he doesn't deserve a "perfect" girl like Mika.

8. pink bubblegum - lavi kou

First off, Sam's fav body part is the neck sooo...and Mika loves purple and kinda resembles that colour. and hickeys are usually purple so..ya i'm dumb ik. Sam may pretend not to like Mika openly, but he secretly fantasizes about being with her. Mika's love for the color purple resonates with Sam, and the idea of leaving hickeys symbolizes his hidden desire and the passion between them.

9. A Little Death - The Neighbourhood

This song makes me feel a certain type of way. I feel like Sam would want Mika to give herself to him fully at her own expense, knowing that she is participating in a relationship with a brute whose looks are "deadly" and who has an abundance of power and lethal allure, which creates that complex dynamic between them.

10. Animals - Maroon 5

This song reveals the intense passion and desire between Sam and Mika. The song depicts a raw, animalistic attraction, reflecting Sam's initial purely physical interest in Mika. It portrays his longing for her and the powerful magnetism that draws them together. As their relationship progresses, this intense attraction transforms into a deeper emotional connection.

11. Prisoner - Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa

This song reminds me of "Chained the Monster". Sam's love may make Mika feel like a "prisoner" and the other way around with Sam feeling like a "prisoner" to Mika, but neither of them can forget each other because they have a passion that is so strong. Essentially, both feel like prisoners in their intense relationship, unable to forget each other due to the overwhelming passion they share.

12. Training Wheels - Melanie Martinez

Sam is not the easiest man to love or hell, even communicate with, yet Mika still has an immense amount of patience with him and stays with him throughout the whole thing in his route. Sam does not have a lot of experience with loving and trusting another person, and Mika is able to ease him through the process of forming a true connection with another person. Mika is probably the person who understands Sam the most in his route and Mika displays immense patience and understanding towards Sam. Through their journey, Mika helps Sam learn to love and trust, taking baby steps to form a deep connection with him.

13. New Perspective - Panic! At The Disco

Sam is a strong boi, and part of the reason for this is that no matter what happens to him, he never lets it defeat him. Sam is a resilient character who refuses to let his past define him. However, as his relationship with Mika grows, he fears that his less desirable traits will affect her. Sam hopes to become a better man for Mika while staying true to his strength and identity. The song also alludes to Sam's initial awkwardness and difficulty in opening up emotionally.

14. Religion - Lana Del Rey

Sam and Mika's relationship began kind of..rough, you know, with the whole kissing without consent (Sam obviously had his reasons) and Sam's attitude. Despite this, Mika chooses to stay with him, emphasizing her dedication to him and their love.

15. Mr. Brightside - The Killers

"It was only a kiss" (literally Sam and Mika's first interaction together, I couldn't resist) it was simply just a way for Sam to get energy when he desperately needed it at the time (Although he did feel at least a bit of remorse when he found out that the kiss meant more to Mika, as it was her first kiss) This emphasis of "it was only a kiss" reveals how to Sam, this should have only been a kiss for him to acquire energy, and nothing more, but it becomes so much more in Sam's route. Sam may also experience moments of jealousy when Mika receives attention from other boys.

16. Take My Name - Parmalee

This song is just adorable, I know it's about proposing to someone you love and wanting to spend the rest of your life with them, but besides that and it reminded me of when Sam shares his demon name with Mika, "Aomaris", which then helps her in an upcoming dangerous situation with Malix. It represents the depth of their connection and how Sam is willing to reveal a vulnerable part of himself to protect her.

17. Guns and Roses - Lana Del Rey

I chose this song because it reminds me of how Sam is quite a destructive man, a "brute" who loves destructive actions and objects, he also manages to fall in love with someone like Mika. The title's oxymoron reflects the contradiction between Sam's rough exterior and his capacity for deep affection.

18. Monster - Adventure Time

Sam's tough exterior and emotional guardedness stem from his difficult upbringing, where he had to learn to fend for himself. This song also speaks to how Sam is seen as a brute by pretty much everyone around him, so he is used to feeling like the "bad guy". While he fears being seen as weak, Mika helps him embrace vulnerability and understand that she loves him despite his flaws.

19. Broken - DNMO & Sub Urban

Ending with some angst apparently lmfao. This song represents the initial phase of Sam and Mika's relationship, where Sam primarily uses her for sexual gratification and fails to appreciate her as a person. It highlights his self-destructive tendencies and their journey towards a healthier connection.

20. Love is a Battlefield - Pat Benatar

I think this reflects the tumultuous nature of Sam and Mika's relationship. The song speaks to the challenges they face, the conflicts they navigate, and the intense emotions they experience while being in love. It captures the idea that love can sometimes feel like a war zone, where they must fight for their connection and overcome obstacles together.

There you guys go. This surely isn't perfect and there's a lot of my own self-indulgence in there bc I love them but this is honestly just supposed to be for fun and honestly a good distraction from a pretty hard time in my life.

I'm currently working on a mika playlist, which i'm actually having a lot of fun with i'm ngl. I find making a playlist so much easier with Mika than Sam (maybe bc she's a more simple character than Sam) but idk, part of me thinks I just understand females more than males lol. I found myself being very picky with this one, which is what took me so long making this

What made you ship it?

Honestly? This person's art--I mean look at it. I love their style, it's gorgeous. After that, I just started seeing more official art of them and hearing about the hype for Chuuaku on Twitter (or at least I thought it was fairly popular over there). Then I began to rethink the characters and what they could have in common, which turns out is kind of a lot. To quote my anime journal, they've both been hurt by Dazai and have been lone wolves for most of their lives. They've been through so much and I want them to bond over being used by people they once trusted (Aku--Dazai, Chuuya--Shirase, Verlaine, anyone else from Stormbringer? I haven't actually read it yet). They each ponder their self-worth but admire those around them (Chuuya admires Mori's leadership but worries about his own humanity, Akutagawa admires Atsushi for being able to stand up to him but doesn't see his own strength as good enough, and obvs Dazai). Listen, so we all know Chuuya is a loyal character, it's one of his core traits. But Akutagawa has that same potential too! He's kept his promise to Atsushi not to kill anyone for six months. I believe Beast even as an alternate universe implies traits that are there in every version of a character, so Akutagawa's protection over Gin can also be seen as loyalty. Any two people being fiercely devoted to each other or having that possibility is a huge plus for me. Yeah, they haven't had any actual scenes together in the main story (ig Dead Apple kinda counts, I always forget that exists) which made me a little iffy at first, but they've had a little screentime together in Wan! which is good enough for me and I ended up loving them!

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Chuuaku's vibes are like off the charts emo autumn season and I love it. Their color schemes are so Halloween-y and I always picture them within an aesthetic collage of hot chocolate, falling leaves, and overcast skies. I also like how easy it usually is to come up with headcanons for them, like Akutagawa would be so bad at compliments (thinking about him like Kageyama saying knife instead of nice) and Chuuya would appreciate him trying yet he's so much smoother at it, they both shop at Hot Topic, love similar music, effective on missions together, find it easy to bully people together, and go on midnight motorcycle rides to help Akutagawa's lungs. Oh, I love that Chuuya is kind of the mentor Aku never had and so it's for sure just one of the most positive relationships Aku could have. Also, it seems to me they're both workaholics so it would be fun to see them realize this about each other and force the other to work out making time for fun things, not necessarily with each other. In my opinion, Chuuya needs someone calmer than Dazai and Akutagawa needs someone who's patient but still outgoing. Of course, I believe that with any Akutagawa ship, he needs to be less obsessed with Dazai to be more in tune with his partner. I think Chuuya could help him move past this because of his specific position in Akutagawa's life as a coworker and someone who knows Dazai pretty personally. Overall I like that this ship, like my other favorites, is pretty balanced power-wise, has a great aesthetic, is on opposite ends of the personality spectrum, and has room for "missing or behind the scenes" fanfictions. Also the possibilities for AUs (from mayoi alone we get detectives and bandmates)!

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Not sure since there aren't several fans I've talked to about Chuuaku, but I'm gonna use this opportunity to say that these are the top songs that remind me of them: I Will Follow You into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie, Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne, Better Than Me by The Brobecks, Easily by Bruno Major. Perhaps my unpopular opinion would be that they're actually just very domestic.

I'll definitely keep you updated on them! I wouldn't have had the courage to even make them if it weren't for you :p I haven't thought up much else for them tbh (I'm trying to give all their pokemon at least nicknames, a basic "how did they meet" kind of backstory, and vague personality before I do, and Cassia makes it HARD 😂) Though, I've developed Morada's Hisui AU a bit more! I don't really know how her main story will work out or if to make this how her story actually ends, but I've decided for the AU at least she chooses to stay in Hisui! She's found a family there - in Jubilife and in the clans - and can make and share music with her pokemon while being herself, not to mention the love and happiness she can spread in letting people see and dance with her team as they sing. She's happy there! She finally finds herself in Hisui, and I think when offered she asks Arceus to return someone who lost himself and more going to Hisui instead 😉

I'm so happy you like her though!! Morada's quickly becoming my favorite also <3 I would definitely love to do an rp or something with your ocs in the future!! Allegra and Ren are so fun, and it would be super exciting to get to interact with them both <3 Morada would be super flustered if Ren asked to take pictures of her and her pokemon, but be just as flattered 😂 I can see her giving tips on how to get them to pose or their best angles, and totally obsessing over Ren's pokemon if she ever got to see them! Cassia LOVES shenanigans >:3 She does need a bit more development (right now the only idea I have for her means creating ~2 more ocs, which I'm not sure I want to do yet 😅) but she'd happily engage in most shenanigans! I think her and Ren would have a lot of fun if they met, with both of them playing into the other's more chaotic side really well! I think they'd also have a lot of fun talking about their trips, though Cassia's didn't get her out and about as much, and overall just be a pretty fun combination :3 I'm also 👀 At Cassia and Allegra both being teachers in Paldea from Unova cksbsnsn, lowkey a school rp with the two of them sounds so fun?? Visual Novel Gush #1: Gnosia

I downloaded Gnosia on a whim mostly based on that cover art, because some part of me loves well-drawn psychos trying to ruin my day. What I found was a hidden gem that, while a bit rough around the edges, finally scratched an itch I've had since finishing the Zero Escape series. Time loops, a host of colorful characters who wouldn't be out of place in one of those games, a story evolving from deceptively simple gameplay, Gnosia has it all.

The premise of the game is that you, along with your crewmate Setsu, are onboard a starship that faces an imminent threat: several crew members have been infected and had their minds taken over by Gnosia, insane aliens that will kill everyone on board until they are the only ones left. There is no quick way to tell if someone has been infected, and anyone with the means to identify them is targeted quickly. Therefore, your crew is basically playing Werewolf (or as it was called in my area, Mafia) to try to determine who the Gnosia are and put them in cold sleep. No one is safe, not even Setsu or you.

However, this is more than just a Werewolf simulator (though you can play it as such, and it's pretty fun). You can take on a variety of roles besides just a crew member: cause chaos by being Gnosia yourself, take on roles traditional to Werewolf such as Guardian Angel, or try out some interesting new roles that seem specific to this game. One role in particular competes against both the crew and the Gnosia, though will likely ally with one of those sides to achieve their goal. Gnosia calls itself a "social deduction game", and this is because unlike Werewolf game generators you may find online, your crewmates have consistent personalities and their own sets of tactics, and learning these is just as critical to winning as logical reasoning is. For instance, one character is obsessed with rationality and is very strong there, but they have a tendency to be so rude and abrasive, the crew is quick to vote them off. Another loves to use devastating emotional pleas to deflect suspicion back onto you.

Your crew starts small, but grows to a total of 15 including you. The first handful of people you meet seem relatively normal, but as more crew members are added in new loops, they become increasingly bizarre. I won't spoil it for you, but some of them really push the definition of "human" (a recurring theme in this game). They are intriguing people, though, and even after beating the game, I found myself wanting to know more about them. You can choose to collaborate with one of your choosing, as long as you gain their trust. Some of them will be your favorite allies, and you'll be mentally shouting "noooo" when they get killed or put in cold sleep. Others seem custom built to annoy you, and you'll cheer when they go away for the round.

As for the player character, you can select your name and gender: male, female, or nonbinary. (A quick aside on this game's handling of NB: your main ally and implied love interest, Setsu, is NB, and at least one other crew member also is. I'm not NB myself so I can't speak to how good the representation is, but besides one instance of misgendering and one instance of body type phobia that are both shut down quickly, the crew widely accepts the NB members' identities. However, there are a couple romantic events (for two female crew if playing as male, two male crew if playing as female) that are pretty small, but I've read you won't get at all if you're NB. They should've added an option for choosing which gender(s) you are romantically interested in.) You also choose a star sign which is mostly aesthetic, but behind the scenes slightly affects characters' affinities for you. Most important are your stats: Charisma, Intuition, Logic, Charm, Performance, and Stealth. For instance, Intuition and Logic are great for being a detective: sussing out lies and proving your point with evidence. Meanwhile, high Charm can help keep you out of cold sleep. You do have to build yourself a certain way to gain access to all debate skills, but you can reallocate stats, and in the early and mid game it is fun to play around with your build.

The story manifests itself in the repeated gameplay loops, which you and Setsu are aware of and trying to escape. Once you play through the tutorial loops, your mission becomes gathering information about each crew member, both to get to know them better and to find a way out. These tidbits are called Notes, and they are obtained during Events, which are cutscenes that play out if certain conditions are met. Some of these notes are fun, while some are dark and disturbing. By collecting these, you get a sense of the world that exists outside your spaceship, who the Gnosia are, and the motivations driving your crew. Some of these notes require protecting certain characters, or even acting against your own interests, but getting them is usually worth it.

This gets to the game's biggest flaw: finding Events, especially during endgame. I would highly suggest using a spoiler-free walkthrough once you get stuck on finding the last few notes. There is an Event Finder in the game that will tweak your settings to make it more likely for Events to occur, but there are issues with it. 1) It does not tell you which Event it thinks it found for you or the initial pre-requisites, even if it's one you've started before. 2) It does not guarantee the involved characters will have the roles you need, or take the action you need them to do to trigger the event. 3) It does not guarantee that you or the involved characters will last long enough to complete the event, so you may fail them due to the RNG being out of your control. I think this is the main reason this game isn't more popular, especially since you will likely need 100+ loops to complete the game. My suggestion is to not restart the loop, even if you fail it, because I've noticed the game starts putting some guardrails in place if you trigger then fail the event multiple times, like having the Guardian Angel always choose to protect you or outright removing the requirement to view an initial scene you've already gotten.

Overall, I'd recommend giving this a try if you like mystery, sci-fi, logic puzzles, or even just playing Werewolf.

1. Are you named after anyone?

Yeah. I was named after Katharine Hepburn. My middle name comes from my great grandma Gertrude's maiden name, and I'm planning to legally change my first name to my great grandfather's once I get the money and paperwork together.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Ooooh fuck, I cry a lot tbh. Last seriously bad cry was probably 3 weeks ago? It was around the time I left my job, it was super stressful. Since then, I think I cried most recently a little over a week ago. April 29th marked one year since we had to put our older dog down.

3. Do you have kids?

No! Thank god. I love kids, but only in small doses. I have a little sister who's 7 who I love to absolute death, but after a week visiting her, I feel like I need to just lay in a quiet dark room for a week straight.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I exaggerate and use hyperbole more than I use sarcasm. Like I use it occasionally, but when I'm going for comedic effect I tend to use the other tools in my arsenal.

I'm gonna be real, I have never been a sports girlie. If ballet counts, I did ballet when I was little.

Hair and clothes. I guess, style in general. I'm decently faceblind, so faces don't tend to register much unless they're pretty distinctive. I'm very much a person that'll notice what you're wearing and stop to give you a compliment if I like it.

The majority of my hobbies tend to be crafty stuff, but hiking and other outdoorsy stuff is another thing I love. Fashion and style and design stuff is a big passion of mine. Right now, I've been locked in on houseplants and stuff related to them. I have maybe 20(?) or so, and I also have terrariums, and a planted aquarium.

12. Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have my sweet little Persie dog(follow us on @pomegranatepup), and I also have aquatic snails right now. I feel like all the plants I have should also count as having pets, but whatever.

13. How tall are you?

5'6"! I always try and lie and say I'm taller than that, but I'm really, really not. I'm mad about it because I feel like I definitely had the potential to be taller than I am.

14. Fave subject in school?

English! I was one of those gay bitches that'd be obsessed with their english teachers. My english teachers would have to give me advanced material because I'd finish and get bored so quickly with the english assignments we were given. I was also constantly reading books in class and getting in trouble for it. I know it's not the question, but my least favorite had to have been math, I failed algebra 1 like 3 times. Kind of embarassing, but I had undiagnosed dyscalcula, so whatever...

15. Dream job?

Right now, I want to someday open and run my own bakery or cafe, maybe a coffee shop. My current plan is to go to culinary school for pastry arts and go from there. I've been working as a baker for the past 4 years or so. Honestly, my real dream job is being a worthless layabout. If someone handed me 10 million dollars today, that would be amazing.

the taste of him lingers on her lips like a sweet and savory treat, tingling from how soft and perfect it was and it's already obvious that she couldn't get enough of him because she's going in for seconds as soon as he pulls away, making her miss his lips more than she's ever missed anything in her life.

she used to roll her eyes at those couples who were so clingy and in love because there was no way such a thing existed but now she's standing here with him by her side and she can't imagine anything more fulfilling than him and none of those other happy couples even compared to them, they would never know their love because there was nothing like it.

salem giggles, nuzzling her nose against his neck as her hands move against his frame, brushing down his nipple to his skin as she purrs. she's kind of obsessed with the idea that he likes being touched by her, having her petite fingers run along his beautiful body as if it was hers to appreciate as he presses his hand against her own to encourage her to keep going. "I get it was a different time but it's kind of hard to believe you weren't swarming in beautiful women putting their hands all over this." she purrs, pressing a kiss to his neck. "not that I'm complaining because you're all mine." she giggles before pulling her hands back to keep brushing out his curls getting the last of the dirt out as it begins to dry more.

to be loved this deeply by him was to be the luckiest girl in the entire universe. how did she go on for 18 years without him? how did she live all that time without kissing him or touching his perfect body it seemed like one of those tragic stories and she hated to think about the possibility of him never showing up in her living room.

the words might be written on a piece of paper but they still meant everything to her, his sweet little smile growing as the tears fill her light colored eyes and she can't help but laugh at herself a little."I've never cried like this before...it feels a little silly but I've also never been this happy I guess. not until you came along and ruined the whole dark brooding thing I was going for." she teases playfully, kissing his cheek once more.

she allows him to turn and face her, tugging her into his lap. she felt so small against him, cheek pressed against his chest where the little opening was on her pjs and his skin feels warm, making her eyes flutter shut for a moment so hes can enjoy his perfect embrace. she smirks a bit at the way he kisses her too, a soft giggle leaving her. the moment just seems perfect, better than her dreams and better than anything she's ever experienced in her entire life.

eyes gaze up at him as he reaches for the pen and paper again, watching him close as he writes down a few more words for an answer to a question that has already been on her mind. how did he come back? how was such a thing even humanly possible? of course she believed that crazy things could happen but coming back from the dead just didn't seem real. however, she nods at his words. "you read my mind." she says with a smile before he's taking her hand.

the pen tickles against her skin as he begins to doodle something and she waits patiently until he finishes. right there he shows her a small doodle of stars with something that looks like light rushing behind them. "a comet?" she says recognizing the symbol. "a comet brought you back to life?" she says confused as her thumb traces over the art on her hand a soft smile on her lips. "I remember that comet, it flew right past our town but...I still don't understand how a shooting star could bring someone back to life? is it like making a wish? I mean I used to make wishes when I was a little girl but none of them ever came true.." she laughs. "I once wished that I could fly far far away from my mom and never return but it didn't really work cause I'm still here and so is she...step dad included." she sighs a little, eyes looking up from the pen mark on her hand to look at him as her hands come up to cup his face. "so if a comet brought you back then so we need another comet to bring your voice back too?"

even if he had his voice, regulus isn’t sure he could articulate how much it means to him that he’s the first person she’s truly loved. it’s a relief knowing she felt it too– the pull between them, as if they were supposed to be together even before he had a body again. part of him had worried he was crazy for deciding to show up in her home after pulling himself from a grave, but she’s making him feel as if it’s the least crazy decision in the world.

especially with the way she kisses him, hands on his chest as her soft lips move against his. her pretty pink lips are even softer than he imagined, making him want to taste them for longer. it’s difficult to stop, hating himself for pulling away because he needs more.

her beautiful blue eyes shine with tears when he tells her that she’s his peace, a smile on her lips. it makes his chest soften that she looks so happy about it, even telling him she felt the same. she explains how he makes her feel safe and the way he's her home, which is everything he’s ever wanted to be for her. when he was dead he listened to her every word, longing to comfort her… to speak to her, touch her and solve all of her problems. he still can’t speak to her, but he can do everything else if only she allows him.

his heart flutters at the soft kiss she plants on his lips, wishing he could take another one. when he’s turned around, sitting between her legs, he brings her palm to his chest and urges her to touch him. her fingers brush against his nipple, but he wants more, shivering. she compliments his body, calling him beautiful, and he enjoys the praise a little too much. pressing his hand over hers, he urges her to keep touching his chest, needing it. he nods softly in response to her praise, because it is a miracle his new body looks like his old one. he’s not sure what he would’ve done if he lost his looks just as he met the love of his life…

it feels good how she combs through his hair, playing with his head of curls. his eyes flutter, leaning into her touch as it distracts him for a long moment. 

but he has to give her his note, showing her the confession he’d written, and his heart aches at the way her eyes shine with tears again. he turns around to face her, suddenly wanting to wrap himself in her. he’s never been this loved before; so loved that declaring his feelings made her shed tears. her voice cracks with emotion, making him smile warmly, his own eyes stinging a little in response.

she kisses his cheek, her soft lips making his heart race in his chest. she so effortlessly affects him; everything from his mind to his soul, completely changing him. she wraps her arms around his middle and he melts into her, gently pulling her into his lap to cradle her. one arm wraps around her waist, hugging her to him, and his other hand rests on her thigh. he nods in response to her words, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. 

he can feel her cheek against his chest, clinging to each other in a tight hug. moving his hand up her waist, he presses a soft kiss to her temple, holding her close. he wants her to know how special she is; that he would come back from the dead for her again and again if he had to.

getting an idea, he shifts forward, still holding her in his lap as he takes the pen and paper again. writing as steadily as he can with a girl in his lap, he prints, “i can show you what brought me back”. then he lets go of her waist, taking her hand and holding it steady as he uses his other one to put the pen to her skin and draw.

picking a spot beside her thumb, he doodles two stars right next to each other with a trail behind them. he glances up at her, wondering if she can tell it’s a comet even if he isn’t as good at drawing as she is.

Submitting my bachelorette application for the ship asks!!

I'm 20 years old, a Capricorn, and obsessed with all things pink and green.

I've recently taken a liking into vintage fashion and will forever be a massive proponent for sustainability. On that note, I'm also a vegetarian and have been for a majority of my life, I love cooking, although I would most definitely consider myself an amateur. Middle Eastern cuisine and traditional Spanish food are so fun and colorful to dabble in.

Banana bread is my favorite dessert to bake, and bananas happen to be my favorite fruit as well. Who could hate bananas? They're versatile and efficient, require little to no preparation and are incredibly convenient to travel with. Of course, as long as they don't rot immediately.

I'm incredibly hands on, I'm not particularly wonderful at any specific activity but I have an incentive to learn, such as refurbishing my own furniture, or painting, making jewelry for myself and friends, etc. If I can create something with the materials and tools I have on hand, I'll do my level best to do so.

I adore the arts and currently pursuing a degree in Journalism at my university. Politics and International Relations have always been a strict passion of mine that I would humbly state I'm very versed in. I would love to establish myself as someone who can incite substantial change in our community and also encourage others to do the same in whatever way they deem possible.

I've done an extensive amount of traveling over the last year or so, and it's been nothing short of beautifully chaotic fun. I hope I get the opportunity travel more and experience existence through the lens of different peoples.

Sadly, I would consider myself a procrastinator, I've been working on that facet of my persona though.

I hate, HATE modern aesthetics. Beyond sick of that shit, the next person who turns their kitchen into a white, sterile, section of their home will have to answer to me. :(

I also have very staunch opinions in case that wasn't apparent in my previous paragraph.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say you sound like Sam's dream girl. Everything you've said lines up with him and how he portrays himself. You could be the Yin to his Yang so easily. The arguments would be INTENSE though if you ever disagree on something. I see him being hardheaded about a lot of things LOL. Nothing you couldn't handle though! You'd have him wrapped around your finger babe.
