Scene II: Eijiro is a pro basketball player now

ʚɞ “So, first of all let me introduce you to everyone, quietly that is.” The cat tagged along Katsuki's commute to school. Apparently he still went to UA but instead of a hero-school it was now a higher class, yet normal highschool.

“You just do your morning routine and I'll tell you where to go and who is who. Just carry something that I can sit on.” The cat meowed and yawned, digging its nails into Katsuki's school bag. He had to pretend he didn't notice.

“Have you always been such a lil piece of shit?” The boy asked, checking over his shoulder to see if no one spotted him supposedly cursing to himself.

“Same as you. Why do you think we were paired up? Now into the school building!”

ʚɞ Some key information that Bakugo took mental notes of.

ʚɞ He was in second grade. All of his class members were the same with the exception of quirks. Looking at some of them made him shiver, especially Mineta's hairstyle. Somehow it resembled the purple balls of his superpower.

ʚɞ Eijiro was a rising star in basketball. He still dyed his hair and got shit from the teachers about it but since he was one of the school's most promising students they let it slide ultimately. He was loud and obnoxious as always, with a tight group of fanboys circling him and his manliness.

ʚɞ Racoon eyes still had eyes like a racoon. She was devoted to some weird merge of gyaru meets scene meets emo, with dark eyeshadow and contact lenses. Somehow, she also slid past the teachers, always looking down. Guess this world really was a shoyo dream with all the weird loopholes. Anyway, Mina spent most of her time around the basketball team as one of the managers. Also she was not pink, which was weird, but she still kept a pinkish colour, like she was constantly blushing all over her body. Maybe some kind of freaky body paint.

ʚɞ Denki was stupid, blonde and a perverted. No changes here.

ʚɞ Deku was the class nerd with test scores better than college students. He was knuckles down in study groups and tutoring.

ʚɞ The rest seemed to pursue interests that in Katsuki's hero world became secondary. Yaoyorozu was rich and trying to upkeep her appearances (and had a fine china fetish). Jirou played the guitar, Mr. Tight-Pants Fast Legs was school representative, Ochaco was the class (and ass) sweetheart while Icy-Hot still had daddy issues.

At least Katsuki didn’t fall too much out of the loop to draw unwanted attention.

ʚɞ Katsuki v2 (that's how he called him in his head) had a specific crush. It was a girl from a different class that the now Katsuki had yet to meet.

This girl has never held a proper conversation with Katsuki v2 and the Black Cat has no clue why v2 fell in love with her. The cat descended into v2's life when he already developed the crush but failed at achieving anything human-relations wise miserably.

ʚɞ V2 was good at studying, one of the best in class. He also played the drums (good) and was a part of the martial arts club (fucking awsome). He worked-out regularly, ate well and lived with his parents.

ʚɞ He apparently kept close with Kirishima, Denki and Mina-

-who now swarmed him in the classroom.

“Have you heard the tea?” Denki leaned closer to Mina's ear.

“I swear if you stick a wet finger in my ear.”

“Good idea but no.” Dunceface smirked. “Jirou heard that Yaoyorozu went in on Ochaco talking over the phone about how much she crushes Midoriya.”

“And then Pat told Parvatti to tell Ron, whatever. Besides, it's common knowledge that these two belong together.” Mina slumped in her seat, pissed off that Denki's gossip was not juicy.

“Yeah, but I don’t see them getting together anytime soon so it's still spicy.” The (no longer electric) blonde shrugged.

“If you told me Yaoyorozu walked like in on them, then it would be spicy.”

“Kiri, tell her something! I'm supposed to be the perverted one.”

“Well it's not good to spread gossip or invade someone's privacy like that.” The redhead scratched his scalp.

“I need a comrade, not a mum!” Denki started whining. “Bakugo!”

“You're clutching at a straw here.” Mina laughed.

Katsuki wanted to open his mouth and tell them that there are more important things than Deku's miserable love life but then it hit him. For this lot, there weren't any more important things than goofing around, sliding through tests and having crushes. They had a totally normal highschool life without villain attacks, near-death experience and murderous training under Aizawa. And such v2 also had a normal highschool life. Maybe he was more invested in all these dramas?

“They should just fuck each other already.” Katsuki resorted to… something like this.

“Wow dude. So romantic.” Denki said and everyone gawked at Katsuki only blinking. “I always thought you didn't care about these things but I guess I was wrong, Mr. Bombastic. Maybe you'll become a heart-throb by the end of the year if you keep up this attitude.”

ʚɞ In the end Katsuki learned he should just act like himself.

wait i'm curious, what makes you say that gregor doesn't like everyone else (if i read that post right)? just curious since i've never seen anyone else say that

i don't necessarily think gregor dislikes everyone else at lcb but i do think that gregor is an incredibly petty person that isn't nearly as close to the rest of the sinners and even outright dislikes some of them cough cough rodya cough cough which a lot of people just Refuse to see because he's as much of a doormat as he is. there's several examples i could get into to try and prove my point however i'll just focus on what i personally think to be the biggest ones.

additionally, this is going to be kind of long, so i'm adding a read more. read more! read it. sorry for being so wordy. i have several diseases.

Pt1. gregor is the type to try and get along at least decently with everyone, especially if he gets a good first impression from them.

this is less a point in favor of gregor's distance w/ the rest of the sinners and more just a contributing factor to it. once again there's several examples i could point to here but i think the most in your face one happened in canto I with yuri, as several people have pointed out. even before gregor comes clean about growing attached to her as quickly as he did because she reminds him of his sister, we get this interaction.

i'll go ahead and make the disclaimer now that i don't necessarily think gregor is the most reliable of narrators, especially when it comes to his feelings and interactions with most people, but from the way he acts when the topic of yuri comes up (and the way we still see him act even all the way up to c7, nearly a whole year after yuri's death) i don't see reason to question his sentiment here. gregor immediately got that aya and yuri were close, potentially even taking note of their traded belts, and went out of his way to get something nice for yuri despite hardly knowing her.

i feel like a lot of people have forgotten as much, especially since it's been so long since c1, but gregor actually spent a good bit of season 1 doing the exact same thing with the other sinners! gregor reads a connection between him and ishmael pretty quickly despite getting off to a rocky start

mostly because gregor can tell that ishmael is pretty sardonic in a very similar way to him. there's been multiple instances where ishmael and gregor have essentially expressed the same sentiment at different moments, most notably gregor's little argument after ishmael got shot with a decay ampule in c4

and ishmael's response to pilot talking about self-sacrifice in c5

i could go ahead and pull up more examples, but in general pm has gone out of their way to show us that gregor and ishmael are pretty similar, so it makes sense for gregor to assume that they're friends, right?

ishmael's only the first sinner we see gregor trying to do this with in s1, we also see him try it out with heathcliff, sinclair, and ryoushuu

he's tried to get along with charon, being one of very few sinners that we've seen actually try to establish a connection with her at all

even rodya, despite my insistence that gregor doesn't like her nearly as much as the fandom thinks he does

all of these seem pretty fine and dandy, right? sure it frequently leans towards self-degradation, micromanaging, and commiseration, but gregor can at least be pretty chummy with most of the sinners, can't he?

Pt2. hell's chicken was more than just comic relief guys please

i'm fully aware that this is quite the hot take, but i think hell's chicken deserves a lot more credit for character writing than the fandom gives it. hell's chicken gave us foreshadowing for several events, such as the donqui bloodfiend reveal

heathcliff's distortion in c6 (as well as hong lu's highly speculated distortion at some point in the future)

and ryoushuu and sinclair's continued connection by making him the odd one out on her team

which, hey! that implies something about gregor's odd one out, don quixote, too, doesn't it? yes. yes it does. that's pushpin 2. keep note of that for later.

splitting into teams is one of the major events in hell's chicken, and most of the sinner's choices are either motivated by very little, backhanded, or motivated primarily by not wanting to be on the opposite leader's side. i didn't include all of the picks, just because i feel like including most of them already gets this across, but i think gregor took one major thing from this: most of the sinners, when push comes to shove, will only side with gregor when they refuse to or can't take his opponent's side.

now, don't get me wrong, i'm fully aware that this is primarily intended to be comedic relief, but when gregor is being described as having his trust broken by ishmael or nearly crying because no one on his team properly sided with him for him, i feel like it's pretty fair to read into this.

something that i think is pretty important to remember in conjunction with this is that we know that gregor is the type to hold a grudge, both from his general attitude towards the G corp soldiers in c1 as well as his continued distaste for vergilius

even beyond the splitting into teams of hell's chicken, the sinners have given gregor plenty of reasons to feel bitter. i feel like this is something people have noticed but haven't really put a finger on, but it's kind of wild just how often the rest of the sinners make gregor the butt of the joke

and sure, we could argue that a fair few of these aren't really made with any ill intent. quite a bit of it could have been meant as harmless teasing, but with gregor being more sensitive than most, it coming from nearly all sides, and as often as it does? yeah, i think he's prone to taking it a bit personally.

Pt3. yes i do still think gregor was the third most important character in canto VII you guys gotta hear me out okay

of course, all of this leads up to the bit of the story i highlighted, doesn't it? c7? i totally get why people haven't really picked up on all the gregor things i did in it, seeing as they were mostly not *directly* said about him or by him.

personally, i think that gregor's distaste for talking about himself on any serious level and thus leading to him getting sort of "sidelined" narratively (which i take issue with that claim, but still. it's effective for getting what i mean across atm) is supposed to lead players to take a deeper look at the times gregor gets held up to other characters and compare and contrast what's being said about them by the matchup. as i showed earlier with his immediate latching onto ishmael, i think this is something gregor himself is at least partially aware of too.

so, that begs the question, who was gregor compared to in canto VII that makes me think it's one of the most critical pieces in understanding his character?

really, i'd like to avoid getting too lost in the analysis of this canto specifically, since i'd like to do a proper post about this later, but i figure i can bury the lede a little before doing it properly.

c7 features several characters being made to perform in sansón's play, acting out the relevant backstory for this segment of the plot. a lot of these characters have rather direct, degrading reasons for playing the roles they do.

outis, a character with an inflated ego who wants her journey to have a purpose, is made to play an aimlessly wandering villager with a single line.

hong lu and ryoushuu, two characters for whom families and the expectations placed upon them are likely going to play a major role, are made to play bloodfiends.

rodya, a character who resents her lot in life and is constantly shown to be eager to leave her destitution behind her and become someone special, is made to play a helpless villager that's too poor to even offer any money to the hero that saves her.

heathcliff, a character that has spent most of his life getting dehumanized by comparing him to beastly animals, is made to play a literal bear whose sole purpose in the plot is to get beat up and then quickly left by the wayside.

sinclair, a character that has two opposed parties essentially treating him as a macguffin to procure for their side, is made to play the character who was arguably the catalyst for this entire canto, not to mention playing a decently major role in ruina.

our star don quixote is made to play her father, the first kindred, but there's someone by their side the entire time, isn't there? don quixote's dear, steadfastly loyal companion. a character which don quixote has tasked themself with getting to come out of their shell?

gregor has been made to play our unreachable star, sancho. someone had to, of course. you can't really tell a story without it's main character, now can you?

now, i should once again give a disclaimer. i am not trying to say that i think adapting what happens to donqui/sancho in c7 to gregor is the road pm is going to take here, not only would that toe a bit past the line of foreshadowing, but it'd also just amount to rehashing that plotline again, which i don't think would make for a particularly exciting story.

what i DO think is that we can take a lot of the things that are said to either directly be the case for sancho and use them to inform how we see gregor.

and god, does playing sancho have some fucking implications for our favorite ossan archetype.

starting off, the earliest moment we get to see of sancho is quite literally her just waiting for death to take her in a pile of ashes.

which, i should remind everyone, is actually pretty damn close to what happens to gregor's literary counterpart at the end of the metamorphosis. gregor samsa experiences one final breaking point that pushes him over the edge and makes him decide to just wait for starvation to take him.

gregor and sancho both consider themselves to no longer be human, something which sancho goes out of her way to highlight repeatedly throughout the canto and gregor is quick to get defensive on her behalf for when outis starts really tearing into her

sancho spends quite a lot of this story denying herself the joys of community and friendship, despite knowing that, even with the rest of the sinners frequently making jokes at her expense and outright insulting her, they were things that she desperately craved.

and, while this is getting into my "outis is a red herring meant to distract us from gregor's eventual betrayal" theorizing, i also think it's worth noting for this discussion that sancho's fellow kindreds, her family, all seem to be under the impression that she dislikes them and ultimately her departure was an act of betrayal

and that, despite gregor being one of LCB's resident mood makers and attempted conflict de-escalators, one of the sinners that's most prone to making appeals to the bonds they've all forged together, only him and faust remained silent during everyone's speech

so yeah, i think there's quite a lot of little details and hints building up to the reveal that gregor's not quite as fond of everyone as he presents himself to be. i do think a lot of this ultimately comes down to gregor getting in the way of his own happiness, similarly to donqui, particularly because he's been frequently portrayed as something of a self fulfilling prophecy, especially by giving him as many christ allegories as they have by way of priest and garden of thorns. gregor is convinced that the rest of the sinners don't like him because he's not convinced anyone could like him, so he convinces himself that he hates them because why should he care if someone that he hates hates him too?

a lot of this ultimately ties back to my personal interpretation of what happens in the metamorphosis as well as my own theories regarding all the times gregor has made weird callbacks and references to lobcorp and ruina, but yeah. i think about this guy and his deeper characterization a fairly normal amount, i think.

to end this off i'll highlight one of my favorite little "gregor is fucking seething and trying so hard to keep it cool" moments, in the credits CG for c7 we see rodya teasing him by drawing a little horse on his window and actively pointing and laughing at it, which gregor really doesn't seem all too pleased about.

i personally think this ties into the other cruel part of sansón forcing gregor to play rocinante, which is the more literal "he's actually just straight up playing rocinante" side of things. gregor was quite literally made to play something less than human, less than even animal really, as he was reduced to nothing more than the shoes don quixote wore as she got to play the leading role. sansón directly makes jokes about gregor being nothing more than shoes in the play twice, which adds to this reading, i think.

this, imo, really plays into the adaptation of the metamorphosis! i've seen a lot of readings for the book that posit that, despite being the protagonist, gregor samsa can't really be considered the main character due to nearly everything he experiences in it being used to further his family's character development at his expense, which i think fits nicely with limbus gregor seemingly having the most said about him through indirect means by holding him up to other characters. also it's rodya carelessly making fun of His Big Major Insecurities™ again like she did in c1 which i always find fun. rodya i love you but god you're the worst.

What's so fun about BruJay as a ship is Jason's sheer obsessive devotion to Bruce. Jason is possessive over Bruce, to the point he doesn't care about the deaths of others so long as he has Bruce's attention. A part of the UTRH arc this isn't talked about enough is that Bludhaven fucking explodes mid-way and Jason won't let Bruce see if Dick is alive.

A lot of discussion about UTRH paints Jason as this anger-driven cold, calculating machine up against Bruce when it's so clear that his love for Bruce is what drives him at his root, even if he won't acknowledge it. He says it himself, he would've done anything if it was Bruce who'd died instead of him and his anger is rooted in that possessive devotion not being reciprocated.

BruJay as a ship always to be, to some level, unrequited. Even if Bruce loves Jason back in that way, he'll never be that obsessed with Jason. Jason will always view Bruce's love for Dick or Tim to be a distraction, proof that Bruce isn't dedicated enough to him. Jason has the need to always have Bruce's attention, even when it could come at the cost of Bruce's other loved ones. Something something cannibalism as a metaphor for love in how Jason wants to consume Bruce's whole existence. He can't let Bruce leave him again, can't let Bruce love or grieve anyone else. Forcing Bruce to choose between Jason and the Joker isn't just about confronting Jason's killer, it's about confronting the other person who exists as this duality with Bruce and consumes so much of Bruce's life. That's the role Jason wants to fill, calling himself Red Hood and forcing Bruce to look at what he's become. But still loving Bruce and wanting more than anything for Bruce to reciprocate that love in the way that Jason understands. I just think it's good soup and rife with Dynamics that are underexplored with them.

I've been replaying Professor Layton and the Curious Village and I had honestly forgotten how fucking funny this game is. None of these villagers are even remotely close to normalcy but Luke and Layton barely comment on it. They get shut off from the outside world and they carry on as if nothing's wrong. They get pursued and almost killed by a Ferris Wheel. Luke has no chill and no mercy and he's here to solve mysteries, not make friends. They don't even get beds in their rooms at the inn. It is hilarious.

This is far from my best work, but it's 1:30am, and I needed to get this down before I slept or lost my mind. So here, take a snippet of Rook seeing Zara again for the first time in 3 years.

Trying, and failing, to keep his voice from shaking, [Rook] said “Hello, Captain.” Mouth still open in surprise, [Zara] replied “Well, hello yourself.” The reality of what she was seeing seemed to hit her as she rounded the desk. “Rook, is that really you?” He nodded. “It’s me.” Zara ran towards him, stopping just short of touching him, and said “What did she do to you?” Rook’s heart stuttered and he had to brush his fingers together to confirm Sigmar’s ring was still in place. Could she possibly see through its illusion? But then he remembered what Lanny had said. She knew where you were. His throat clenched and he choked out “Two years.” A wave of grief swept across Zara’s face as she said “I’m so, so sorry.” Rook shook his head vigorously. “It’s not your fault.” Zara ignored him. “It is my fault. I failed you. As your captain, it’s my responsibility to keep you safe, and I failed you.” Rook wanted to say something, to reassure her, but she pushed on. “She sent me letters, told me all the terrible things she was doing to you. I… I let you down.” Those words hit Rook with the force of a dozen cannonballs. Lanny had said that Zara knew Wolf had him, but knowing that Zara had been aware of what Wolf was doing to him… somehow that was more painful than any wound Wolf had ever inflicted. He barely managed to force his next words out around the lump in his throat. “Where were you?” And why didn’t you come? “She said she’d kill you if I came to get you. Or if I hired anyone to get you. You’re standing here because I stopped sailing.”

this sets my brain on fire because like, it makes sense from Solas in that sense -- he calls them by their titles more than not because as someone who's been around spirit (/ possibly a former spirit himself, who "calls himself Pride" and has mostly not been using the official name that was put upon him) it makes so much sense.

Like how he can call Varric variation of "Varric" when the conversation is casual, "Master Tethras" when talking about his books, and "child of the stone" when he talks to Varric about dwarven issues or when he thinks Varric is out of his depth (re: when Varric comments on how Cole wants to become human, Solas use "child of the stone" as to remind him that as a dwarf he is in no position to know how spirits are supposed to feel)

so in a sense it's the same way one spirit can represent different emotions and purpose depending on how you approach them - it's not a black and white thing and since a spirit can change from, say, wisdom to pride, depending on how you see them, then similarly, Cassandra can be "Cassandra" as well as she can be "Seeker" depending on how Solas perceive her at the time.

If Solas was indeed a spirit once i feel like a proper role reversal in that sense.

but we also know indeed that Solas doesn't like lying and is bad at it (he just lies a lot by omission but that's a whole different thing he's still a liar. who doesn't straightly lie, but a liar nevertheless) so of course he doesn't want to refer to people as a lie. So he adjusts depending on what the conversation calls for. when he praises Cassandra for her faith, he calls her Cassandra, but when she thinks about the Order or when he talks about her strength as a soldier he talks about her as "Seeker" - it represents a version of the truth at the time, the truth he's talking about

It also puts perspective, if he was indeed a wisdom spirit, to how he calls himself Pride (and we know it's HIM who calls himself that, not others perceiving as such - because the way people perceive him is Dread Wolf. Solas is more likely to embrace seeing himself as prideful and seeing it as the truth about who he is, despite the fact we know from multiple accounts that he cares more about wisdom than pride in itself ("he wants to give wisdom, not orders").). Meaning that he considers it just a "truth" that he's prideful regardless of the fact he represents wisdom more. (in fact he confirms it in Tevinter Nights: "I am not a god, Charter. I am prideful, hotheaded, and foolish, and I am doing what I must." he doesn't have a single positive thing to say about himself) (also sorry this is an honest to god teangent but the rest of this rant: "When you report back to the Inquisitor . . .” His voice faltered. “Say that I am sorry.” oh im so going to *yells in hands*)

BUT it made me suddenly stop in my tracks because i first mumbled "you still stopped calling me "vhenan" when you first broke up with me" but then i suddenly got hit by multiple things at once:

1°, that during the relationship during private prompted conversation he'll only call you "Vhenan" or "My Heart". Inquisitor is reserved to professional statement or banters (mostly because they weren't going to rewrite the personal banters to change that but the wastonian explanation is that when he's serious on the field he sees you as your title more than his lover when he is talking about your job)

2°, that the switch to "Inquisitor" post break up is visibly more painful to him, he's much more strained by saying it in private, which does imply that to him it's hard to lie about what you are to him, even by masking the "truth" he wants to call you with an official name. He forces your professional persona in front of him basically.

3° yet during the break up during one of the option, after he breaks up, when you ask him to explain himself, he removes himself by saying "please, vhenan". even once he has broken up he couldn't bring himself to just "lie" about what you are to him. (just like he textually says, at the angry option "tell me you don't care! tell me you were just playing so i can move on with my stupid life!" and he replies "i can't do that". Even when he's trying to end it he cannot lie about what you are to him: his heart through and through)

4° how easily he ends up slipping and calling her "Vhenan", "My Heart", "My Love" in Trespasser after two years without contact, because the TRUTH is that your identity to him will always be the person he loves. He cannot bring himself to call you a lie, he cannot bring himself to put an emotional distance despite the fact it's what his body language is clearly trying to do (despite his facial journey absolutely not getting that memo). Even at the end of Trespasser where the stakes are "the fate of this world" and it would be fair for him to refer to you with your "work persona" to show distance, he still calls you the "truth" of "you are the love of my life"

so conclusion that this banter says that Solas calls people by what he believes is the truth about them, which is his logic on how he calls people by their nickname, and it's visible in the romance especially post breakup just how much the Inquisitor is, to his eyes "his heart", and that's the identity of his beloved in his mind even if he tries to force the work persona to distance himself from it, because he is best at lying only when he's omitting something and here it's how much he loves you.

my friend @shroudedinsilver has these characters who are fusions of some guardians

one of them is a fusion of og Dream and swapdream Nightmare, and the other is a fusion of their own AU's Dream and Nightmare. whimsical my beloved

and in a discord server we're in, I went "hm. i wonder what a fusion of DS Dream and Obsidian would be like"

i now have three different variants of that, and fusions of Lear & Puck, and Petruccio & Gonzalo

also one of the ds dream/obsidian fusions is actually Delusion/Obsidian. he's a problem. he's very much a problem. not as much of a problem as Petruccio/Gonzalo's fusion, but a problem. let's just hope everyone stays in their own MVs
