Cowardly Lion

There's little to no description of the Cowardly Lion in the books, so I always imagined him as rather ironically big with thick, dark mane (the darker the mane, the stronger the lion). He's mainly made of soft, delicate curves, which are incorporated into his whiskers and hair as well. I wanted to incorporate bits of 'you had it all along' in Dorothy's friends designs, so classic tail and mane ribbons were not enough. Such big and proud animal has to have at least a bit of courage to wear lace collar. Lions have darker spot on their heads, which I turned into something fitting for a magical land - star. Since lions can be identified by whisker spots, Cowardly Lion's are little hearts.

Dorothy and Toto

I have carefully noted all descriptions of Dorothy's clothing, which is as follows: sunbonnet, gingham dress with white and pale blue, silver shoes, basket with white cloth and apron. The dress should have pockets. Even though the classic illustrations suggest that her hair was blonde, I decided to go with dark brown. It just fits way better. I added lace to the apron and sunbonnet. All garments were inspired by vintage clothes from early 1900s. Toto is based on Scottish Terrier, since he's been described as small, black and hairy, especially around the nose.

Scarecrow

His eyes will kill you. No, but seriously, they're not dark like other characters, because they're painted. He's made mostly of triangular shapes. Straszek's description is the most detailed: painted blue Munchkin's hat (with little bells), head is a small sack, painted face, blue suit of clothes, old boots with blue tops (I have no idea what tops are, I hope I did well), painted ears and padded hands (that's why his hands are too big + he's the only character with four fingers). Now, I didn't stick to the entire description for various reasons (f.ex. painted ears looked weird and blue hat didn't cooperate with cape), but mainly, because I wanted to add something from myself. And here's where the Wicked part 2 spoilers begin. Fiyero is quite tall, so I have abandoned the idea of Munchkin sized Straszek. He's ragged and dirty, because he was beaten. Torns in suit are remnants of Fiyero's wounds with golden straw spilling out instead of blood. If you look closely straw on his left shoulder should look like epaulet. If it doesn't, then it's my fault. The one shoulder cape was made from what was left of his chieftain outfit and it covers a big rip in the suit (which is his 'brainy' feature). Golden ornament depicts wheat and crows. I wouldn't be myself if I hadn't put unnecessary objects on a big hat, so there you have it: wheat & Elphaba's poppy. And last, but not least: straw sticking out of his face forms light facial hair (everyone say 'thank you, Jonathan Bailey').

Tin Woodman

Standing proudly next to his boyfriend, Tin Man was created from hard, square shapes, quite summetrical as opposed to Scarecrow's absolute chaos. He has his little iconic cap and I can't really say a lot about him. The bowtie is his remarkable feature that I could never take away. It was red for a moment (just like Lion's ribbons were royal blue), but all my friends said that he looked like Freddy Fazbear, so I had to take the red away. I'm sorry, Nick. Let your husband housemate be colorful. Anyway! I might have accidentally incorporated some of Dark Cacao Cookie's armor in here, because that's the only armor I had drawn more than once. He's rusty all over and all that crying turned his eyes brown and left rusty tear marks. His jaw is hinged like it was in the books. If I remember correctly it was never stated that Nick Chopper was a Munchkin, but after Wicked turned Boq into Tin Woodman it would be such a waste to not deisgn a character sturdy, yet small. Spring hair is inspired by movie Boq's curly hair (thank you, Ethan Slater). His you 'had it all along' feature is... Less functional than others. The collar around his neck forms a heart.

ngl I think Sam should've been more involved in Civil War

abject utter rambling under the cut, this is not one of my clean posts this is brain spaghetti on the wall

mostly because it's hard for me to separate Steve and Bucky from Sam, they're hopelessly tangled up in each other thank you very much and I needed more of that from canon

I mean yes I think the final fight between Steve, Bucky, and Tony is beyond my skill to rewrite with Sam in it bc there's something powerful about Steve choosing Bucky over Tony as completely and irrevocably as he did, but on the other hand while it used to be Steve and Bucky against the world now it's Steve, Bucky, and Sam against the world, Sam literally shows up for Steve days after meeting him for the first time, lets him in his house when he's being chased by the government and does some illegal stuff to help him on his mission, but then he also dedicates himself to finding Bucky (assuming I'm remembering that right ??? I hope I am and that's not just fandom brain lmao)

and as moving as it is to see again that Steve still trusts Bucky with himself, I could've done with more of Sam learning to trust Bucky, more of a journey from he's not the kind you save, he's the kind you stop to really understanding what Bucky's been through, how it messes with his mind when the code words are used on him, and maybe Sam doesn't rest at quite the level of trust Steve does but this is the guy that pulled Steve out of a river, this is a guy whose autonomy is fragile, who's trying to rebuild some kind of life for himself, and they keep bickering but we get to see a deeper emotional bond forming between them

maybe Sam wonders where his place is with them, they've known each other longer than most people have been alive and literally nothing can come between them, but he's not between them he's with them, maybe Bucky shields him from an attack with his metal arm, puts his body between Sam and danger like he would with Steve, and Sam starts to realize that he's not a third wheel at all, he already knows Steve trusts and respects him and will turn to him for help before anyone else but he also catches a glimpse of Bucky's feelings for him, what are those feelings? even Bucky's not sure, is it just wanting to protect this person because Steve cares about him, is it just gratitude for being a facilitator in him and Steve starting to knit back together, is it abject wonder at the knowledge that this man has put himself on the line for Bucky (is that just wanting to protect this person because Steve cares about him? is it just repaying the favor from when Bucky pulled Steve out of the river when Sam couldn't get to him?) because nobody but Steve has ever really risked themself for him

just imagine how much sicker the shot would be of them sharing the shield if it was the three of them

imagine instead of Bucky trying to parkour his way out of the facility, Sam tried to fly him out, holding his hands or clutching his waist and maybe griping about how heavy he is a little bit a la Michiru and Haruka but trying so hard to get him out of there before he's killed, and it's not just the roof Tony breaks it's also Sam's wings, he and Bucky spiral back to the ground and Bucky twists them in the air to take the brunt of the landing because he knows he's better able to handle that kind of an impact

when they walk away, they're supporting Bucky between them, Steve has chosen him over the rest of his life except Sam and Sam has fully decided that wherever it goes, he's cashing his chips in with the two of them, he's choosing to stand by Steve in his love of Bucky and he's choosing to stand by Bucky for his own sake

because this movie was never just about the Avengers tearing themselves apart, it was always about Steve and Bucky coming back together, trying to find a way their lives still fit, choosing each other over pain and self-doubt and the government and the Avengers, and it could be about Steve and Bucky and Sam figuring out their places in each other's lives, where do I belong when they've been together since childhood, where do I belong when he's made a new connection without me, where do I belong except with the love I've had all my life and the love I've found lately, where does any one of them belong if not with the other two

it's Steve's undying love for Bucky and his wonder if Bucky still loves him, he knows Bucky remembers him but does he still feel anything? balanced with his new relationship with Sam, a little less hard-won but strong and so precious to him, he trusts this man with his life and the life of the other person he loves most

it's Sam's wholehearted love for Steve and his gradual understanding that loving Bucky has made Steve who he is, that Bucky and Steve are too entwined to separate them into different boxes, it's his realization that you can't love one and not the other, not these two, because they're already holding parts of each other inside of them, and his willingness to defend Bucky because there's a bit of Steve in him that leads to the genesis of loving Bucky for his own merits

it's Bucky's journey back to himself, anchored by the one person he loved when he was himself last, dragged and helped by the person Steve loves now, not knowing if he still belongs but wanting so badly to try, ready to put his life on the line for either of them because they've done the same for him when he doesn't feel he deserves it and yet desperate to live because he has them to do it with

that's the Civil War I've got in my brain, idk

It was actually fun (except for all the anger and frustration). I didn’t even notice time passing... Everything was really well-organized! Everyone sang, exercised, and chanted together.

Never vote for politicians who scurry away to protect their own party and power over the people. I watched it all live. Imagine how I felt, seeing grown politicians—several times my age—running away. Those people will definitely make their way into the history books, and not in a good way. They should have at least stayed to vote. Here in Korea, we ask politicians to vote; it’s not the other way around. The irony, huh?? God. How can this even be. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Everyone waited and called for them to come back and vote for hours. Over a million people had gathered!!! My throat hurts so much from chanting, “Come back and vote!” (By the way, the chant at the end, which sounds like too-pyo-hae, is “투표해,” meaning “vote!”) And, of course, they ignored us.

EVEN IF THEY WISHED TO STAY IN POWER, there are basic things you must do to be a decent human being in the 21st century. How can anyone defend a person who attempted a coup??? It's crazy!! If this continues, I’ll keep rejoining the protests again and again. This isn’t about being conservative or liberal—our basic rights were nearly stripped away! What are these politicians even doing? They’re too cowardly to show up and vote.

I really don’t want to talk so much about politics—I want to draw fan comics, for goodness sake! I'm an indoor person and yesterday was cold. I have to though? I haven’t been able to sleep well these past few days because of this ridiculous news.

But I have to say, Korea’s protest culture is admirable. Even in these frustrating and grim times, people managed to make the protests feel welcoming and even entertaining. I’m still proud I went—it was a positive experience. It could only be this peaceful because people fought so hard to achieve democracy, even shedding blood to get here. Even protests can be fun sometimes, things were so peaceful and everyone who joined demonstrated mature civic awareness! Being a witness to it was memorable. Def ready to do it again.

Like after all that's happened to him, you'd think he'll at least exercise some caution, he'd take a small break and stop endangering his own life, but this is Mulder we're talking about, when he's invested, he's reckless and he just doesn't stop for anything in the world, so he has no time for fear I guess.

Personally, if it were me, I'd never board a plane carrying that bag into my hands, after a person literally died doing the same thing, but look at him. He even fell asleep hugging a very much radioactive bag, not even being bothered about the people tailing him because this is just another day for him, he's used to it.
