In your opinion, what do you think are the sins of the new side characters? Since everyone is linked to a specific sin.

I've been thinking about this for a while now. Every sin has been claimed more than once besides gluttony and slot. Beelzebub and Belphegor are the only ones linked with their sins, I wonder if there are fewer demons associated with those two sins.

Thst being said, Thirteen gives me 'Pride' vibes, especially for her pranks, but I'm not sure.

Mephistopheles and Raphael are a complete mystery for me.

Bonus: He's not on the list, but Michael is giving me gluttony vibes consistency he likes his kitchen and sweets. He's the only one who fits in the gluttony category.

You know, I'm pretty sure they assigned sins to the side characters in order of the bros. Because they tend to use the same order for the side characters. So I think the initial selection was based on that, rather than because their sins were related to their actual characters or personalities. They just needed to assign a glow stick color to them in the OG.

Here's how I believe the order goes:

Diavolo, Barbatos, Luke, Simeon, Solomon

I think they went demons, angels, and human. Then they just went down the sin list: pride, greed, envy, wrath, lust. This is why there is no second character with gluttony or sloth because those are the last two sins and there just weren't enough characters.

In Nightbringer, there are no glow sticks, so we might never know what colors the trio would have been assigned. And nowadays I think most people only use this as a way to additionally flesh out and characterize some of the side characters. Especially Barbatos and Simeon.

But if we consider the pattern, it would likely go demon, angel, and then reaper. And if we go in order of the sins, it'd probably end up with Mephisto as gluttony, Raphael as sloth, and Thirteen as pride. Just because the sins would then reset.

All that being said, I don't think those are the sins those three should have if we're going on personality and characterization alone. (I could make arguments against some of the other side character sins, but this ain't about them.)

I'm not sure if I know enough about the trio to assign them sins. Every time I try to explain why I would choose one, others come to mind and I'm like okay, that could work too. Like I could see Mephisto as being pride or wrath or even envy all for various reasons.

The reason I think it's tricky is because these characters were likely created without a sin in mind, so there isn't one sin that really stands out as belonging to them. And technically, I feel like I could make arguments for various sins when it comes to all the side characters, even aside from the ones they've been assigned.

So I think you can pretty much go with whatever sin you feel fits them best. I don't think we'll get any kind of official indication on it.

For myself, I would probably give Mephisto pride or wrath. (He's prideful, but he's also ~spicy~.) I might assign Raphael wrath or greed. (Quick to rain down spears, but why does he have so many spears to begin with huh?) And I'd probably give Thirteen lust or envy. (She seems to pick up on others' emotions quickly the way Asmo does, but she also seems annoyed that MC spends so much time with the bros.)

Buuuut that's just my initial thought. Really you can go with whatever you like! And I have to say that I love the idea that Michael would be gluttony lol. Although I think gluttony could also be about overindulging in any vice, rather than just being about eating a lot, it's funny to think of Michael's penchant for sweets as a manifestation of the sin he would possess.

Er uh anyway, I apologize for this ramble, but those are my thoughts!

I had a very random idea to write something about TenTen's friendship with Bathin that leads into...other things later on. Here's a sneak peek of their BFF dynamic and some of the family drama they had to contend with.

CW: Family dynamics, social drinking. Word count: 0.7k.

Tenebris glanced up from his book when Bathin strode into his home office and slammed the door closed a little too loudly behind him. As close as they were, it wasn't unusual for his friend to come over uninvited or unannounced. However, Bathin's foul mood followed him like a cloud and Tenebris closed his book knowing his attention was needed elsewhere.

Bathin dropped onto the sofa in front of the fireplace with a heavy sigh with barely a glance in his friend's direction or even a hello. His head fell back against the plush couch cushion and he exhaled sharply through his nose.

“Uh oh.” Tenebris stood up and walked over to the side cupboard where he kept his modest supply of booze. The chances of him finishing any more work today seemed slim judging by the state his friend was in.  “Did the talk go that badly?” he asked, pouring the deep amber liquid into two glasses.

Bathin rubbed his eyes with the palms of his hands and groaned. “My father is a selfish fool.”

"Like I thought," Tenebris murmured. He handed Bathin a glass and lowered himself into the empty seat beside his friend. “I warned you it might not go well,” he said, taking a sip of the bittersweet drink and savouring the tingly burn as it went down and warmed his chest.

“Yes, you did.” Bathin tipped his head back and took a generous sip of his drink. “I tried to be reasonable. I didn’t want to accuse him of being a bad father, because he’s not, and I know Mephisto is only my brother and not my son, but…” he sighed warily. “I don’t know, Ten. It’s not right, the pressure they put on him. All these expectations, and he’s so young. I know it’s not right.”

“You’re doing the best you can do.” Tenebris stood to fetch the bottle of Demonus now that both their glasses were nearly empty. “Be there for him, speak up if your father keeps pushing him too hard. I'm sure Mephisto will appreciate it when he’s older, even if he doesn’t understand now.”

“I hope so.” Bathin didn’t sound convinced, and he took the refilled glass Tenebris offered him with a grateful tilt to his lips. He stared into the fire for a few moments and hesitated to speak. “Is this what it’s like when you and your father argue? I know you two have had your own share of disagreements recently.”

Tenebris stared into his glass while he swirled the liquid around slowly. While most of his problems with his father were about his own leisurely activities in the human world, more often not lately, their arguments centered around Diavolo's upbringing as well.

“Both our fathers have ridiculous expectations of their sons.” He glanced at his friend. “Diavolo has so many fascinating ideas: the way he sees the world, the things he dreams about achieving one day.” A small sip of his drink, a heavy sigh. “He’s very much like our mother, and I think that’s Father’s problem. I'm not sure Diavolo is old enough to understand that yet.”

After a moment, Bathin's expression perked up slightly. “Speaking of which, weren’t you supposed to visit him today?” Even though Tenebris didn't live at the castle with him anymore, he knew that he was there several times per week to spend time with the young prince.

“I wanted to take him to the market but Barbatos said they had already gone earlier this morning.” Tenebris nearly spat the demon butler’s name, and Bathin raised his glass to his lips to hide his amusement as he listened to his friend.

“We still had a visit but it wasn’t what I hoped it would be." Tenebris grumbled and glared at his drink as if it had personally slighted him the way Diavolo's new butler had. "Maybe next time I’ll go over in a butler’s uniform and see if he finds me more interesting then.”

Bathin nudged Tenebris with his foot. “We make a fine pair, don’t we? Two meddlesome older brothers, thwarted at every turn by stubborn fathers and the world's most inconvenient servants.”

“Brothers helping brothers, sons disappointing fathers,” Tenebris joked. “But I’m glad we have each other,” he added sincerely, raising his glass up. “To brothers.”

“To brothers,” Bathin agreed, clinking their glasses together.

"But Jes, I thought Bathin was Luke's age! How can he be friends with Tenebris too?" Hm, I wonder. 🤭

But i have many questions soo..

1. What is Barbatos’s role here? Im still gonna guess he’s still Diavolo’s assistant but what’s the story here?

2. Would it be right for me to assume that Solomon had started his friendship with Mephisto because of his connection to Diavolo’s dad but now with Diavolo’s dad dead, Mephisto is probably on the run due to the lawsuits?

3. Lucifer is a lawyer so Ace Attorney shenanigans? OH WAIT MAMMON CAN BE HIS ASSISTANT or we have could the brothers take turns being his assistants?

4. Wait does that mean Simeon is the prosecutor here? (Wait why the hell am i making this so ace attorney, this isnt the right AU)

5. Would it be interesting if Zhao is the Devildom king but because he’s too busy, he accidently neglected Ik like JTTA? Would be cool parallel to Diavolo..

1. barbatos - in this au the equivalent of the chronodae are the 'believers'; barbatos is hired as diavolo's tutor, which is a cover for him being tasked with keeping him from finding out about all the demon stuff. barbatos ends up having second thoughts over the years, and he's the one who first clues diavolo into looking into his dad's weird cult stuff after he dies, and promises to assist him in making things right

2. solomon and mephisto - similarly to barbatos, mephisto was originally in on the whole thing, but (as in jtta) he got more of the dirty work - sourcing the things they'd need, covering up their tracks, so on. he's a lot more taken in by sonno's stuff than barbatos, and such he only starts having second thoughts towards the end of sonno's life before that though - solomon does notice that he seems very in on the company's inner dealings, even though mephisto doesn't seem to have any good business sense, so he does befriend him to try and get some secrets out. mephisto sees right through him, but he's sort of intrigued anyway, so they end up in a sort-of-friendship, with a lot of back n forth and song n dance once mephisto does get cold feet though, he confides in solomon very cryptically and vaguely, then just disappears - soon after this, sonno suddenly starts deteriorating and dies, because it turns out he's BAD at managing the demon stuff without an assistance. solomon assumes mephisto vanishing was him running away, like a coward (similar to how he assumes he was abandoned in jtta)

3/4. the lawyers- i'm not at all clued into the lawyer world, but afaik it's not generally a "this firm is for defence attorneys, and this firm is for prosecutors"? i think (especially since they're an independent and very new firm) lucifer's firm is doing business consultations and such, and they partner with diavolo's company as per his agreement with lucifer

i reckon lucifer and satan are the only ones who genuinely see law as their career path (which could be a source of the luci-satan conflict), the others see it more as something they're helping with while trying to figure out what they really want to do

the celestial law firm is like a family business, so the brothers grew up accepting they'd take that path - since they followed lucifer when he got kicked out though, now they have a lot more freedom (as for simeon, he really just wants to be a writer, but he's also very dedicated to the family business)

but i reckon there'd be at least one big dramatic trial against diavolo - potentially as the Big Turning Point that might reveal the secret of ik's nature - and simeon would be the prosecutor, and lucifer the defence! so we can still have ace attorney shenanigans in that respect

5. zhao - i find it so hard to imagine zhao as a genuine demon king, but maybe that's because i associate the role so much with sonno in jtta? i imagined that ik-the-demon is born from some past ik-the-human, and zhao is human-ik's father. maybe he turns up as a genuine ghost in the office building later on (which could make for big big drama, because ik doesn't remember her life as a human)

6. newspaper club - paranormal investigators! solomon joins forces with them at some point, but somehow never gets to meet their elusive fourth member, despite that fourth member being the main source of all their information

7. phineas and ferb - Yes

(This has been gathering dust in my queue so most of these may be a bit outdated but I'm posting it anyway for future reference too, hehe ^^;;)

To give you the short answer, my current top faves are: Solomon, Simeon, Barbatos, Luke, Raphael, and Satan.

I'm a HUGE side character enthusiast so most of my faves are among them. It's pretty obvious that Barbatos is one of my faves but despite all the tiny barbs I've been posting, my most favorite character is actually Solomon, which is also why I proposed a tiny sol series in this post. As for why I like him, I once sent @/everlasting-elegy an excruciatingly long ask about it so here's a link (Though you probably already know the extent of my simping XD)

For the others (just some crumbs because it would get way too long otherwise):

• Diavolo may be the next in line to the throne but he's someone who has the heart of a child and just wants to have fun, which is why he appreciates that you wouldn't walk on eggshells around him

• Barbatos has this air of mystery around him which makes you want to investigate what's beneath the surface and his formal facade, where you would find a sense of longing for your presence

• Luke is an innocent ball of sunshine who'd immediately brighten up your day once you see him smile

• Now where do I even begin with Simeon— he has the ability to smoothly deescalate difficult situations, his writing career is admirable, he's funny especially when it comes to dealing with technology, and he's literally an angel

If you were to ask me about the demon brothers, I think they're all charming in their own ways, too. Here are some of the many stuff I like about them below:

Lucifer often refuses to admit it, but he cares a lot for his brothers (and you, of course)

Mammon is probably the sweetest and most loyal despite occasionally being a blockhead (which also makes him more endearing in a way)

Levi is that one friend who you can share your interests to (and I relate to him because I tend to ramble a lot about stuff I like when I get the chance, too)

Satan, being the only pure demon among them, is painfully aware of the fact that you and him are of different worlds and races yet he loves you anyway (His HDD '21 UR card says it all)

Asmo has the ability to see the best traits in people even back when he was an angel and he'd probably be the one to pamper you the most whenever you're feeling down

Beel is a pure sweetheart who probably gives the best bear hugs and always makes sure that you're eating well

Belphie would make a great napping buddy and I don't really hate him for what happened in Lesson 16 because 1.) he's a demon after all and 2.) he did it out of a snowballed resentment towards humans since they lost Lilith in the Great Celestial War (I'm still a bit bitter about the fact that things somehow immediately went back to normal when they found out that we're Lilith's descendant, though)

As for the 3 future dateables:

• Thirteen seems like the type of friend you'd spill all your tea to and her chaotic energy makes her fun to be with (she's also quite the tsundere!)

• Mephisto has a caring side to him; likely because he has a younger brother of his own and I'd love to see the character development on how he'll accept us as a human in the Devildom

• Raphael, despite often being sarcastic and aloof, is a dedicated angel and always looks out for everyone, especially Simeon (he's also pretty funny at times)

They're all lovable in their own ways and I don't really despise any of them.

My Ranking of their Demon forms

As someone who is a Monster lover, I want to do a ranking list for their form from my least to favorite form.

Satan (Sorry Han, Sya, and Shio.... Please don't be mad)

But his form is my least favorite out of all of them. The all button up shirt and the spotted pants. Its just so....not work well with each other for me at least. I like the idea of the feather boa as a reference to Lucifer's third pair of wings.

The horns and tail I like, especially the idea that Satan keeps his tail wrap around his leg is because it dangerous having it swing around like Levi's and Belphie. Due being more sharp and bone like.

And Demon marking (Where's the character sheet showing it!!!)

Asmodeus

For being the avatar of Lust, their doesn't seem to have a sex appeal. Maybe because how the sleeves cuts, Freaking Mammon and Diavolo are showing more skin then Asmo. The cups on his wrist I like (its the same with Raphael's arm warms? I don't what to call them.) And his pants with the right leg has small part that show skin.

I like his horns with the pink tips, but the wings.... I'm indifferent they look rubbery to me and I don't think that he can fly or stay airborne for too long.

And the demon markings... Their cute and fits with his sin.

Barbatos

His form looks great.... But I don't have strong feels about it. As a suits girl (aka I fall for men in suits and uniform) He's has a point with me. other then that he's okay.....

The tail is unique, and I notice something, all the 'pure' demons has tails that aren't animal like. (so maybe Mephisto's will be the same?) and the horns, their cool and creepy at the same time. But I feel like they can be break.

And just like Satan, where are the character sheet for his demon markings.

Diavolo

Now where getting to my favorites.

With Diavolo's form, this would be more believable in the past to have. Elephant in the room. Diavolo's form is the only one that can seen at anytime. When I say that, is when you imagine all these demon 13th BC and have these outfits? Diavolo's attire is timeless. You can see him during the fall of the roman empire and still have him in the modern era. The reason his lower is because of the gold broch? in his chest. Its too detailed for me.

The horns is *chef's kiss* perfect for him, and the wings.... Their at the complete opposite with Asmo and that he can fly with them. With his size 😏 the wings should be big and they are.

And the demon markings.... Are okay.

Leviathan

Levi's form.... is perfect for him, in relation with his name. The snake skin design on his pants, the rain/scales pattern on his jacket, and skin tight shirt that is covering his swimmer abs, all give the idea of water demon. My only problem is why purple is the color that stand out? Like with the Mammon, Satan, and Asmo you can see the color of their sins. But with Levi and the three other demons their sin's color is either doesn't stand out or there's nothing at all.

Now with the horns, like it coral or like the sea dragon seahorse scream underwater. And the tail perfect with his animal/familiar.

And his demon markings are beautiful.

Belphegor

This is my guilty pleasure demon form. So bias thoughts here.

I love that it's an emo like style (That's the first thought that pops into my head when I first saw this) The hoodie and bagging pants I'm really digging it. My only problem is the color blue. Like Levi, why the color different from his sin.

The horns... Maybe a little too big for him. But the tail I love it😍 Also I can't see this form being scary even though he kills us in this. (its just me, when I read others fic depicting the incident)

And his demon markings, are cute.

Mammon

Oh this I like! Mammon's form gives Rockstar vibes. The boots, shirtless jacket, and the belts/restrains(?) give that vibes. Like this subconscious idea that they choice for the Rockstar look is some parents in the early days associates heavy metal and Rock n' Roll music to being the devil music. Plus you can see his sin color.

The horns are cute, while his wings are one of my favorites! Since Mammon is slim and the fastest one out of the brothers his wings would fit his body type. And I like how you can tell bone like style.

And his demon markings.... well hear me out. I think why they are kinda fading is because it more on being a demon rather then his sin. Think about it, Mammon might be less demonic brother, due to him not having any demonic urge. And his sin makes him bad in the eyes of others.

And maybe that's why he is targeted by his brothers because he least demonic than them, as such their demonic nature subconsciously makes them pick on Mammon.

Beelzebub

And here's my second favorite demon form.

The jacket, cowboy boots, and his black top that show his figure just makes me faint. And the gray wind like design on the top and boots just stand out to me. The only complaint I have is the orange instead of his red sin color. Don't get me wrong I like it a lot.... but when the three brothers with their sin color works with their outfit then why not with the other brothers, Same goes to Levi and Belphie. The colors look great on them but is just a shame that they have sins color but they don't have them in their demon form.

The horns looks great on Beel, and the wings..... So, I have a confession..... I like insect theme designs. As such my original series has a race which is completely Insect/arachnid monsters. So I love Beel's wings. Its just I don't picture him as a bug/insect type of demon when I started playing the game.

And I love his Demon markings.

Lucifer

No surprise here!😂 And this is another bias pick.

The check list, Suit check, his animal/familiar in his design check, covered up check and with a cape like part check!! The only thing is.... the red! I love the red color he has! all the brothers with colors that doesn't match with their sin color I love. It just you can mistake Lucifer's color for red instead of his sin color being blue.

You know what! They should have given the sin colors to the brothers that has them in their design. Blue to Belphie, Purple to Levi, Orange for Beel, and Red for Lucifer. I'm just saying.

Now with his horns are okay to me, and the wings could be a little be bigger. But overall I love them, to the point I want to sooth them.

And his demon marking, I love it and just want to give it a little kiss 😚

1.) how did you first get into obey me? personally, i was playing swd games for quite some time before obey me was released in december of 2019, so once i saw an ad for it i told myself, “well! another silly otome game from them to pass the time”, ahh i was so wrong with just how much flavor it had in all of it's terrible, atrocious glory.

satan was the first one to cause me to go into a miserable spiral once i had a revelation of what his birth actually meant, and thus, began spewing my silly little analyses to the small fandom at the time. i no longer go on longer tangents about satan as much as i do solomon (and recently, mephistopheles due to how noble his values are and how little people seem to realize it), but if i dare see someone in favor of obsessive cat-lover satan i have no issues with bashing their head against a digital brick wall and arguing that he is the least likely of the brothers to be obsessive over anything that falls into that category.

I realize we are probably not here to discuss demon biology, but... can Diavolo get pregnant?

We know that Diavolo himself was born, he had a mom and a dad and was a child at some point. But the only other demons we know about are either fallen angels, born of some kind of emotion (Satan), or just so old nobody knows where he came from (Barb). I don't think we've heard about Mephisto, but he likely isn't a fallen angel at the very least.

I'm just saying, the mechanics of demons spawning new demons seem to be rather varied, so it's completely possible that you could indeed get Diavolo pregnant.

I don't think Barbatos would appreciate it, though. Can you imagine how much more difficult it'd be to get Dia to do his work? Though I wonder if he'd finally want to eat pickles...

Oh no now I'm just imagining pregnant Diavolo asking Barbatos to get him some pickles and Barb crying tears of joy over it.
