@0-k-4 this is getting way too long so i'm putting it in a reblog under the cut bc it's. i'm insane sorry. also quick disclaimer this is maybe a bit of a harsh rant bc i really felt like this movie was treating me like an idiot so i'm just a little bit annoyed but i don't think anyone is dumb or wrong if they liked it or thought it was good. honestly i'm not even sure it's objectively bad rn i just. really really did not enjoy it. and most of my complaints are about stuff that i can see were intentional choices it's just that i don't respect most of these god bless. ANYWAY

my problem with the repetition is that it's on literally every level. the scenes themselves are unending and just doubling tripling every action or sequence when it really doesn't need to be every single time. and when you think it's done there's another one just restating the main point right after. and everything is just insisting on shit i already got like the few lines of dialogue are mostly spent restating things the completely unsubtle symbolism already told us same goes for the sound design the way it's shot EVERYTHING for example that one scene in the end where she reinjects the substance in herself and there's the line "please give me a better version of myself" which was. so unnecessary to me like i get what she's doing i get the point of this substance and why she's using it and we've heard that so many times already you don't have to spell it out like that!!! there's nothing more to this line than just restating the point!! i'm not fucking stupid just have some faith in having a scene speak for itself for once!!!!! and i can enjoy not so subtle things sometimes sometimes it's good and interesting to be on the nose but for me it really didn't feel like the themes or commentary or whatever were expanded at all outside of. plainly stating them once and then just repeating them for the entire runtime. it just constantly felt like the movie was hitting me over the head with the same shit over and over again asking did you get it? did you get the point about beauty standards and body dysmorphia and female self-hatred? the point mostly being that those are things that exist did you get that did you get that we're talking about that. also did you get how hot sue is bc if not here's another shot of her ass.

and i GET that the ass shots are there for a reason but i just don't think it was executed well sorry like the point about her repeating the same cycle of social pressure does not work very well considering how she doesn't have any interactions with female characters ever (i'll come back to this later). and it just undermines scenes that could have been way stronger like the part where she dreams (?) that a chicken leg pops up in her butt and the whole crew goes to look at the camera that was zoomed in on her ass to see if they find anything strange. and the sequence of all these men very seriously investigating a close-up of her body and going over it in slow-mo was very much supposed to be extremely uncomfortable and make it obvious just how much she's being treated like an object to be ogled but. the movie was already doing that for the past twenty minutes so personally it just didn't really hit like. who cares. they're looking at her ass ok bitch me too bc you the director put a camera there for five minutes straight right before this. again i don't think that's completely unintentional i could see that it's because you're also supposed to re-examine how her new perfect life was presented until then and interrogate your position as the audience or whatever (though i do always find that a little annoying considering that i. don't have any say in that like oooughg isn't it fucked up to sexualize the women on tv well sure but i'm not the one with the camera and editing software here.) but idk to me it's just. TOO insistent on that spends way too long just repeating it over and over again and it just ended up feeling condescending to me. and that's just to exemplify that phenomenon basically every little isolated point was like that for me just so repetitive and felt like i was being talked down to constantly. idk it pissed me off

also and that's more personal preference but i didn't like how. individualized? everything felt from a narrative standpoint. like the fact that elisabeth/sue doesn't have any interactions outside of the men who either desire or exploit her and even those are super underdeveloped. so everything she goes through feels very internalized and mostly coming from herself and. sure there's the catalyst of losing her job and overhearing what the guy says but that's really it once she comes back as sue she's unconditionally seen as perfect and that just goes on for the rest of the runtime there's not really any consistent pressure or pushback that could explain how you get to the point elizabeth got to. like again i know the extreme contrast is the point but i just don't think presenting something like this as "one day you're young and pretty and nobody says anything to you ever and the next you're 50 and basically everything's over just like that" is. the most interesting route. idk i believe in gradual shifts i think that kind of immense pressure makes itself known at more points in your career including the very beginning like being told she should smile once in a while is not. the worst it gets even when you're at the height of fame!! there's just not enough external factors for meeee and the way sue gets everything handed to her (+ as an example the scene where her neighbor comes over to complain abt the noise and then immediately walks back on it when he sees she's hot) felt really reminiscent of the whole belief misogynists have that being a young pretty woman is the easiest way to live life. and i guess it could be satire of that very idea but idkk it did not feel like the movie was really deconstructing that in any way since the very destructive consequences she gets at the end are really just because of her own actions and choices. and again i get that part of the point is about self-hatred and your own body image (+ i heard some pretty interesting stuff about this aspect so i could admit at least there's Something there) so it's normal if she's mostly doing shit on her own but idk it's just not a direction i enjoy a lot with smth that presents itself as social commentary like ok girl but where's the "social". i don't think it's bad necessarily to focus on personal responsability bc in the end it is true that she chose to do that but i just wish there was. more. about the context or whatever. more nuance and variety in characterization especially of the audience especially especially of her boss the crew all the industry stand-ins they're all such. cartoonish caricatures that for me it makes most of the criticism feel really weak and secondary to the rest that's essentially "elizabeth gets really old and gross bc her hotter self exploits her to stay rich and famous". like the plastic surgery angle is really mostly focused on how SHE's fucking up her body and never really adresses the entire industry behind that that has a very concrete financial motive to keep women insecure and make it so that having some kind of procedure done really early on is currently a hollywood standard (like you genuinely do not get anywhere without that rn. more or less everyone you see on screen has had smth done) and yeah women do participate in that in the sense that they're not literally coerced to do it but it's still. i just don't think focusing your criticism mostly on the individual really gets us anywhere! (and again the "she's perpetuating the same beauty standards bc she's currently profiting off of it" point falls flat for me bc of the lack of other female characters. i think that to really make a point about that kind of influences and interactions and projections of an ideal you need to compare and contrast at least a little bit.) especially if your movie is TWO HOURS AND A HALF you can afford to spend a little more time on different things!!!!

bc for me that lack of. well everything else ended up presenting the issue of getting plastic surgery or other "artificial" ways of modifying your body to fit strict beauty standards as mainly "if you do it too much you'll end up even uglier in the long run" which is not. a take i think is. good? and again i could see that they're trying to satirize this exact thing at least a little bit (i actually think the ending works pretty well in that regard like everyone freaking out and calling her a monster is on some points a really good representation of how people do turn on celebrities who've had things done once they're old and it gets more noticeable, the whole focus on "botched surgeries" etc that's a very real and common reaction. but again i didn't think it was executed very well bc it tries to do both that AND the moment where she gets through and is acclaimed with the fucking poster on her face for me the point once again got really muddied and it's just. a shame!!!!) but when the main horror of the movie IS how monstrous she gets in the end and how unnaturally old elizabeth gets throughout it, for me it's just. a little bit hard to really distinguish between satire and just perpetuating the very same thing. like in the end it's the same problem i had with x, how meaningful can your commentary on ageism in the entertainment industry/society in general and the lengths we go to to avoid looking visibly old really be when the aged features of your character are one of the main sources of your horror and are constantly presented as gross and scary and horrifying? tbh i don't think there's a fixed answer to that, like maybe that's just a personal hang-up i have here and i can accept that other people would think this works well but for me it was too much. straightforward hagsploitation to really make the "it's fucked up that old women get discarded like that" sound entirely sincere instead it mostly felt like "it's fucked up that 50 yo demi moore who's still super fit and hot got put under so much pressure that she ended up ACTUALLY old and gross". aynway. i don't know. maybe it just wasn't for me maybe it's really good and i just fundamentally disagreed with the angle it used to get at most things. i still think it was annoyingly condescending and that the pacing was terrible and ruined a lot of things tho <3

ok i'm FINALLY done. quick first impressions on the substance bc i need to rethink some stuff but: the actual horror was great loved the concept loved the designs loved the horrible horrible things and the general metaphor is good on paper. everything else about this movie is dumb as shit it did not work for me at ALL

❤ People from around the world come to you for commissions and you get to surprise them with your knowledge about their country and customs. It makes you even more popular. Where once you were admired, now you are loved. You make people feel at home.

❤ Morbid ass pictures hanging on the walls of your shared home. Crazy shit that both of you find beautiful.

❤ If you're the type to want a big wedding, imagine how insane the audience would appear to onlookers.

❤ Yeah he knows an interesting group of people. He never thought Hope's Peak would be able to introduce him to such a versatile group. His class holds a lot of illegal activities, fair's fair. Whenever he wanted to avoid Fuyuhiko, somehow he'd end up in your view. No matter where he turned to run, there was somebody scary beside him. But unlike him, you didn't threaten him, you were kind. The stare you gave him had compassion.

❤ Everyone involved in Japanese street fashion and alternative cultures know your name. And as a man who is usually indoors, he hadn't the clue of you.

❤ You can't be too scary with the way Ibuki keeps fawning over your medical abilities like you're a superhero. And to make your credibility even more astonishing, Sonia was thoroughly pleased to hear all of the things you've done. Class 77-B would love you srry.

❤ ^ Ibuki immediately pulls up her phone to show Hajime how you gave her friend pointed ears.

❤ ^ He's like woahh I see the vision.

❤ You have a certain glow in your eyes when you get to explain your work to him. Sure, the elf ears are pleasing, but there are so many other things you can do.

❤ At least once a week you try to convince him to get some form of body mod. You should make a argumentative slideshow.

❤ Your hands are really steady. He notices this almost instantly. You have the steadiest hands he's ever seen, very different from how shaky Mikan can appear.

❤ ^ Oooo you wanna imagine you sitting on the bathroom counter doing his eyeliner so bad oooo.

❤ ^ "You'd look good with tatted eyes."

❤ Sometimes he'll catch you staring at him, and you do this thing where you tilt your head as if you're examining his features. You have a hawk-like stare. Though, when his eyes reach yours, you look away with a small smile. In some occasions it creeps him out but in others, he finds it flattering.

❤ You are often forced to hear the life stories of your clients, depending on their modification, some of them feel the need to justify their decision to you. It reminds you of how Hajime gets along with others so well. He's such a good listener and mediator.

macbeth - the tragedy of macbeth (2021) movie adaptation starring denzel washington. this movie is fucking stunning and the way they did the witches was SO good. also i have the throne of blood (kurosawa's adaptation) also on my watchlist since i've heard REALLY good things about it

richard ii - 2013 rsc production w/ david tennant (link). he gives me catastrophic gender envy, i need to become more masculine to become more feminine etc. ben whishaw in the hollow crown series (link) is great too

romeo and juliet - romeo + juliet (1996) movie adaptation directed by baz luhrmann. this is like, the most well known romeo and juliet and you might've watched it already but i'm listing this anyway because there will never be a better mercutio and the way they did the setting is SO fucking funny and inspired

twelfth night - so far only saw this one Outside On The Grass Where They Performed This At My College but i liked it a lot... reccing the 2012 globe production with mark rylance (part 1 / part 2) (his hamlet was one of dt's favorites as an aspiring actor) (i'm putting my faith in letterboxd and david's taste for this one)

coriolanus - 2014 donmar production w/ tom hiddleston (on archive.org). this is directed by josie rourke, who also directed dt/ct's 2011 much ado! the staging and the effects are fucking awesomeeee (also peter de jersey and elliot levey are in this, i love them)

ASH: Super fucking dumb reviews. Makes hyperspecific lists (i.e. the shrek and get out one) and reviews based on how funny it'd be. Sometimes shes seen it. Sometimes she hasn't.

☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆: Justice for the grinch, to be honest. He's literally just an anticapitalist victim of racism raised by two lesbian moms. He did nothing wrong.

☆: The only part I liked was when Morbius said its morbin time and morbed all over the place

MACK: RELIGIOUSLY leaves reviews for everything he's seen. He's super positive about every film, always seeing the strengths even when he doesn't like it. They're always super detailed too, usually a paragraph or two in length. All his reviews scale from 3 stars to 5. Only one movie has ever been given a one star review.

NERVA: Only leaves reviews for her hallmark binges. Her litmus scale is based on quality in relation to other hallmark films, and puts a note before every review that in relation to any other film, they would garner two stars at most, zero if it were possible.

☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆: Surprised me. A hallmark movie has not done that since 2063. It was interesting she stayed with her New York City Boyfriend. Unexpected.

☆: Another copy-and-paste plot. The third act misunderstanding occurs at one hour and thirty-five minutes, as it does with every movie. The kiss happens twenty-six minutes later: A minute more than usual. This means I had to sit through an extra minute of this movie. Oh well.

SAMUEL: Only really updates it to say he has a letterboxd. Posts a review every so often when watching a film he enjoys, spending most of it rambling about his personal analysis than anything else. Oftentimes surprisingly good though.

VIDA: Posts a review for every single movie they watch, and there's a lot. Like, one a week, at least. They post full essay length reviews, broken down into sections. They've got it down by a science. They also regularly make organizational lists based on tone or situational enjoyment. They have more 1 and 2 star reviews than not. They've unknowingly posted Mack's reviews off site to bully the shit out of them. Their meanest reviews are towards cliché "classical" movies, because that's what Samuel made them watch.

AMATUS: Only gets into it because Vida suggested it. He has a lot of thoughts on films, but he prefers verbalizing them anyways. He doesn't care to influence peoples opinions much on this front, so he really just leaves objective reviews that are fairly short. Sometimes he does leave monster reviews if no one will entertain his thoughts, but thats few and far between (because Vida keeps goading him into rants always). Loves reviewing indie, arthouse films the most.

I can't find whatever was my previous post was about this topic because of course whatever I'm searching for is never one of the handful of things tumblr deigns to show me, but anyway: I feel like a lot of the debate around AI is focused on whether and how bots can imitate actual humans, but the fact is that a lot of people increasingly act like bots. Last time I was thinking about how whenever you see chat- or comment section-type things in movies it always feels like just a totally fake stream of randomized meme punchlines, but actually that's very much what the internet experience is like these days. People are just saying random stuff they've heard before in a bid for attention that they can't get by trying to be smart or cool or funny. I have to think about this right now because one of my Letterboxd reviews got popular enough for a number of randos to see it--a review of a movie that I really think is garbage for idiots, if you like this movie then you are the very dumb victim of an opportunistic scam, is what I said. And a guy with a HUMAN CENTIPEDE avatar left this comment that's just crybaby noises, and I'm like. Ok I see what's going on. All the movies you like share the quality of being "offensive", so you're probably used to defending your faves against pearl-clutching liberal snowflakes, and now you assume that any time someone doesn't wuv your precious, it's because of a moral problem that hurt their feelings. So you didn't really understand my review, which says you're a big dumb moron for falling for this crap that was, incidentally, cowritten by an actual confirmed and disgraced scam artist. I'm not crying because I'm too sensitive, I'm factually calling you stupid. Sorry if that hurt your wittle feelies, maybe you should go destroy something beautiful about it. I'm an INFP 9w1 and a Libra (Cancer rising) girl. I'm the eldest of three siblings and I really have that eldest sister energy (responsible but stressed lol).

I'm very introverted and I hate having to interact with people and leave my house, but when I do I can easily pass myself off as an extrovert or at least an ambivert because I really enjoy talking, even though I feel more comfortable chatting to people I'm close to. I'm also very sentimental, a bit of a crybaby and all that. I empathize and get very sensitive to other people's pain, yet I don't like showing everything I feel and think to others. I kind of prefer to keep my things to myself, I guess? Like, I'd kill and die for someone important to me, but it's not like I'm going to keep saying that to them. I think my opinions are my own and other people's opinions are other people's and I respect that and I also expect my privacy to be respected. I've always been at the top of my class, so I guess I could consider myself intelligent (or at least the people around me say), I'm usually quite funny/goofy, sarcastic (when I feel comfortable to be) and organized, but I can also be quite lazy and not even a bit proactive. I always try to be polite and friendly with others, but I won't shy away from a discussion if I have to (btw, I'm very argumentative in discussions lol) And also, as much as I'm an introvert, I don't mind "attracting attention" because I don't really care what people think of me.

About my appearance, I have light brown skin, shoulder-length curly dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. I'm Latina (Brazilian), short, around 5'2 and my body is chubby and curvy. I don't have any tattoos or piercings. My style is very much inspired by the late 90s and early 2000s (if I had to choose some reference icons, it would be Lorelai and Rory from Gilmore Girls). I'm not a big fan of makeup, usually I just wear gloss and blush at most, and I only wear earrings or rings as accessories.

Things I like are basically movies and series, music, some books, and cooking. I'm obsessed with everything that involves history and I just love A LOT the 80s (especially movies) and the regency period. My favorite color is purple, my favorite season is autumn, my favorite drink is tea and my favorite animal is dog. My Letterboxd TOP 3 movies are "Mamma Mia", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "The Breakfast Club". My dream job would be to be a writer (but I know I probably won't be one). I don't like (most of) indie artists, hot days, coffee, movies and TV shows about superheroes and I rarely like the genres of fantasy or dystopia (I'm not the least bit nerdy lol)

I'm not a fan of clingy people; I prefer those who are funny and intelligent (even a bit of an asshole if it's within the bounds of being a decent human being). For me to fall in love with someone, they'd really need to have been my best friend first, because what I prioritize in my relationship is feeling comfortable. My love language is quality time (receiving) and acts of service/gifts (giving).

I feel like you and Eddie would fit together so well!

Your personality types actually complement each other very well, with you being an INFP and Eddie fully embodying ENFP, you are pretty good at evening him out and vice versa. He kind of realised you were more of a homebody a few weeks into seeing you, even if you can display extroverted energy around others. He doesn’t vocally raise it, but instead just suggests more sweet ideas to hang out when it is just the two of you. Renting a movie to watch in his trailer, just driving around with him in his car listening to music (and yes he does let you always pick what you listen to/watch!). He is a sap over the little moments you share together, watching your face light up when you find a film you want to watch, curling up on the couch with you under his arm, the rest of the world forgotten about. He is able to read you like a book after a while, gaining the ability to know when you are overly stressed or overwhelmed. As your relationship progresses his feelings just continue to grow, he sees it as such an achievement as you get more comfortable around him and let your more goofy side show. You match his sarcasm perfectly, bantering with him and playfully pushing his buttons. He has never laughed so hard.

He is a man of many words but is always calm during these moments, knowing that his loud nature wouldn’t be favourable. Gently coaxing you into his lap and shushing you softly as you babble about whatever has been plaguing your thoughts recently is something nobody has really seen from him. It’s special to you. When the time does come for you to meet his friends, he waits until he gets the all-clear from you, not wanting to push you out of your comfort zone. He has given his friends a thorough warning as well, not wanting to make you feel even the least bit uncomfortable. He has nothing to worry about though, the way you are able to weasel your way into their hearts is almost immediate. They immediately see how gentle and kind you are to their friend and able to pull him back when he becomes too boisterous, that is tied with the way his gaze always seeks you first when he cracks a joke tells them everything they need to know. 

He won’t admit it but he was slightly intimidated by your intelligence, with him struggling all the way through school he felt he wouldn’t be able to keep you mentally stimulated, thinking you would quickly become bored of him. After a few discussions with you about your academic work he is immediately in the library, checking out a few books in an effort to understand what you are talking about, his eyebrows furrowing as his eyes scan the pages. You eventually find a few of these books tucked away under his bed, hastily pushed under to try and hide them. When he realises you have noticed he begins to stumble over his words, trying to distract you from what you have seen but you can’t hear anything over the feeling of your chest tightening. You reassure him that he doesn’t need to stress himself out over trying to match you intellectually. You chose him for reasons completely unrelated, for which he is more relieved than he would care to admit! This doesn’t stop him from asking questions in the future about whatever interesting things you are currently learning about, multiple times. You have all the patience in the world for him and will explain it ten times over if needed.

He tried to explain dungeons and dragons to you once, you asked him about it in passing out of pure curiosity, he began to tell you. However, he soon notices the way your eyes glaze over slightly as you try to follow along with the words coming out of his mouth and he has to hold in a chuckle. It’s adorable how you want to understand what gets him so excited but alas, fantasy is not exactly your favourite genre! He assures you it is no worries and instead just keeps you up to date on what his DnD group is up to, leaving out the world-building and keeping it easily understandable as to not bore you with words you will not know the meaning of! He doesn’t mind you have different interests, you both have your outlets and can focus on different things, even if you are sitting in the very same room. Spending quality time together without needing to be constantly talking.

As soon as you mention any of your favourite things to him, it’s over. You let it slip that your favourite colour is purple and he has run with that ever since! He insists on being a romantic when he can, I don’t think he is really a words of affirmation person, rather he is an acts of service or gift giving. He can’t help but get you small things here and there, absolutely getting you purple flowers when he can or random purple trinkets from vintage markets or thrift stores. Even when you scold him lightly for spending money on you he just shrugs with a small smile gracing his face, telling you the same response every time “It’s purple, your favourite”. Speaking of acts of service, he doesn’t want you to do stuff he can help with. Every morning without fail he wakes you up with a cup of tea, even going as far to have a small cabinet shelf just for the ones you like (far away from the coffee!). He just enjoys you drinking it around him, it might sound ridiculous but just allowing him to see you be pleased with something he has done for you fills him with a sappy feeling he can’t explain.

Y/N had lost count of how many dates she and Pato had been on. Although they weren't dates; neither had ever said to the other, "this is a date." They just met as friends to watch the sunset on the beach while eating pizza or to gaze at the stars in Pato's convertible or countless other get-togethers that always had a romantic tone, but never quite enough.

Y/N met Pato thanks to her sister; Y/N worked at a publishing house and was the one who edited and supported Elba's book project. Soon, they became friends, and Elba's starter pack included him.

Pato and she had been friends for two years, and they had been in love with each other for two years. It was almost love at first sight, although neither of them knew it yet.

In Pato's mind, Y/N only saw him as a friend, someone to have a good time with and laugh a lot, but nothing more. From Y/N's point of view, Pato was the most incredible person in the world, and she couldn't wait to confess her feelings.

At some point, Pato didn't see himself as enough for Y/N; she had a stable job, an amazing apartment, and a future that was not at all uncertain. While he was going from hotel room to hotel room and could be out of work at any moment. He saw himself as chaos for Y/N, almost like a problem.

That feeling worsened when, after returning from a race, they missed their flight, causing Y/N to almost get fired.

"Y/N, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I'll talk to your publishing house, I'll tell them it was all my fault. Forgive me,"

Y/N couldn't believe how much Pato cared about her. She simply smiled at him and grabbed his hands, giving them both chills.

"It's okay, Pato. You don't have to talk to anyone, really. It's all fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Absolutely sure."

"You're not mad at me?" Pato was looking at her with the biggest puppy dog eyes imaginable.

"How could I be mad at you, silly."

Y/N let out a light laugh before hugging Pato as they waited for the next plane.

The race celebrations were the worst; hugs, kisses, touches… But everything was justified by euphoria. Y/N thought that his hugs were longer and more heartfelt than the ones he gave to others, but at the same time convinced herself that she was being delusional. Pato prolonged his hugs as much as possible to remember her when he went back home.

She had been the one by Pato's side during the Indianapolis 500.

“You go,” Elba had told her, leaving her speechless. “He needs you.”

Even now, she kept thinking about that phrase. Pato needed her. The idea of being so important to him caused all sorts of feelings. He was totally devastated, and when he saw Y/N, the sparkle in his eyes was instant. She hugged him and reassured him that there would be many more opportunities to win and that he had done an amazing race. They gathered enough courage and self-esteem to show up at the gala after the race.

It was no secret that the fans were crazy about them and that no one believed they were just friends. It was obvious for everyone except to them.

In the end, that day wasn’t so horrible for Pato, but only because Y/N was by his side.

The moment when Pato gathered enough courage to confess his feelings to Y/N was terrible. They had arranged to have dinner with their group of friends, and Pato was determined to confess to Y/N. He had spent the entire afternoon preparing his speech with his sister so he wouldn’t mess it up and was anxious for the moment to come.

But all his excitement dissipated when he saw Y/N enter with a man on her arm and introduce him to everyone as her boyfriend, Matt. She seemed to be incredibly happy with him, spending the entire dinner talking about how they had met and how amazing he was and how well he treated her. Pato gradually withdrew from the conversation, under the sympathetic gaze of his sister.

“I’m going outside to get some air,” Pato announced and waited a few moments for Y/N to make the slightest movement towards him, but she didn’t even look at him. She was distracted, laughing at one of Matt’s jokes.

“I’ll go with you,” said Elba, noticing Pato’s discomfort. Again, Y/N didn’t react.

They went outside, and Pato ran his hands over his face and hair, frustrated by it all. “I’m an idiot,” he said, with a saddened and angry expression. “I knew that sooner or later someone would beat me to it, but I didn’t think it would be right now.”

Elba pressed her lips together and put a hand on her brother’s shoulder. “I know. I had no idea she was seeing someone either. I always thought she would wait for you to make a move.”

Pato sighed. This was his fault, after all. He had taken too long to show romantic interest in her, so much so that Y/N hadn’t even noticed.

“Do you want me to talk to her?”

“No,” Pato’s response was immediate. “No, no, no. She seems happy,” he turned his head a little, seeing her through the glass with Matt’s arm around her shoulders. “If she’s happy, I’m happy.”

Elba knew he was lying; she could see it in the bittersweet expression on his face. And it was true, he was lying. If it were up to him, he would get rid of Matt right then and there and kiss her in front of all their friends.

His sister didn't listen to him and talked to Y/N anyway. They were at the former's house, preparing dinner for a movie night with Norbi when Elba brought up the topic.

“How are things with you and Matt?” she asked, while taking iced tea out of the fridge.

She noticed that as soon as she asked, Y/N broke into a wide smile. “Very well, he's on a business trip. But we're great.”

Elba also smiled, trying to conceal her true intentions a bit. “I'm glad to hear that.” She paused briefly, searching for the right words. “You know, I always thought there might be something between you and my brother.”

Y/N stopped what she was doing for a moment, as if recalling a past life. She couldn't find a way to respond to that without it sounding strange or suspicious, and by that point, Elba's comment had lingered in the air for too long.

“Oh really?” she simply said.

“Yes, I guess you two had that connection.”

“That connection.”

She repeated that phrase to herself many times over the next few days, pondering and questioning whether she and Matt had the same connection she had with Pato.

Elba's words lingered in Y/N's mind, but life went on as usual. That was until one fateful night when everything came crashing down.

Y/N sat on her couch, a half-empty bottle of wine next to her, and her eyes red from crying. Her phone, clutched tightly in her hand, showed the last message from Matt: “I’m sorry, but it’s over.”

She dialed a number she knew by heart. The phone rang, and Pato’s groggy voice answered. “Hello?”

“Pato,” Y/N slurred, her voice thick with tears and alcohol. “Can you come get me?”

Pato, instantly awake, sat up in bed. “Y/N? What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

“Please,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I need you.”

Without another word, Pato was out of bed, pulling on his clothes. He glanced at his suitcases for tomorrows flight, but Y/N needed him now. Racing could wait.

He found her sitting on the front steps of her apartment building, shivering in the cool night air. Her eyes lit up with a mixture of relief and despair when she saw him.

“Y/N,” he said softly, crouching down beside her. “What happened?”

She fell into his arms, sobbing. “Matt… he cheated on me. I saw him kissing with some woman.”

Pato’s heart ached as he held her close. “I’m so sorry, Y/N. You don’t deserve that.” He could feel the shivers in Y/N's body and how fast her heart was beating.

She pulled back slightly, looking up at him with tear-filled eyes. “I feel so stupid, Pato. I thought he loved me.”

“He’s an idiot,” Pato said firmly, lifting her chin. “Anyone who can’t see how amazing you are is a fool.”

She laughed bitterly. “You’ve always been too good to me, Pato.”

Pato helped her to her feet and guided her to his car. Once they were settled inside, she spoke again, her voice barely above a whisper. “You know, I always thought there was something between us.”

Pato’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. “What do you mean?”

She turned to him, her eyes filled with a vulnerability he’d never seen before. “I’ve had feelings for you for so long, Pato. I just… I was too scared to say anything.”

Pato’s heart pounded in his chest. “Y/N…”

“I thought maybe you felt the same way,” she continued, her voice cracking. “But then I met Matt, and I tried to move on.”

Pato pulled the car over to the side of the road, unable to keep driving. He turned to her, his eyes searching hers. “Y/N, I’ve been in love with you since forever. I was just too afraid to mess things up between us.”

Her eyes widened in surprise. “You…you love me?”

He nodded, reaching out to take her hand. “I do. I always have.”

Y/N’s breath hitched, and she leaned in, her lips brushing against his. “I love you too, Pato.”

Their kiss was soft and tentative at first, but quickly deepened, years of unspoken feelings pouring out. When they finally pulled away, they rested their foreheads together, both breathing heavily.

“I know you have a race tomorrow,” Y/N said, her voice tinged with guilt.

Pato smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Nothing is more important than you, Y/N. Not even racing.”

She smiled, a real smile this time, and snuggled closer to him. “Thank you, Pato. For everything.”

He kissed her forehead, holding her close.

bootleg watching sunday!!

(here's what i watched/listened to earlier this week!!!)

JCS 2012 revival opening night

i got to listen to the jcs revival opening night audio and! oh boy! it's horrible! so we're not starting out strong here. this was the night josh young went on despite being sick (it was like a chest infection or something? bronchitis? pneumonia? he said in an interview that it got to a point where he couldn't even hear himself) and it is VERY OBVIOUS OH NO. his lower register is pretty okay in the first act, but he can not hit those high notes, baby. he's going into falsetto (and a weak one at that) every time. it's not the best look for the first number AND your broadway debut. and it goes downhill from there. he's trying his best and the acting is strong, but vocally, he didn't have the chops unfortch. i had to turn it off at superstar bc the second-hand embarrassment got too strong. it was that bad. by the end he was basically just screaming through it. paul and chilina and the rest of the cast were very good and were trying to make up for it. bless him. he was really trying. butttt on a positive note, i liked how growley and breakey his voice was in the last supper. it made for good emotion. he has to speak the "christ you deserve it" line (bc man is struggling) but mannn. that hit. that's worth the whole boot tbh. his voice was also fine in cwsap. but... it does not make up for the horrible jesus hold in superstar, but we're acting like that doesn't exist. oki dokie. poor guy. he had an off-night. it genuinely does not reflect on his talent at all because from the headlines around that time he was veryyyy sick. so moving right along

Evita (National Tour 2013)

josh young in evita! he's a cutie! i typically like my che's with more bite and glare (raul esparza is my favorite. no one will ever beat raul for me. not even josh. so it’s gonna be hard not to compare) but this was a nice spin and he's so adorable and snarky. he's not playing che guevara here but just... some dude named che. we actually get to see him smile! halfway through i realized that bluedas only smiles ONCE in jcs and it's barely a flicker. so yippee. like i usually like the money kept rolling in to be sarcastic and snappy but he was just so damn adorable looking excited with the money. I CAN'TTTT. and josh hits high notes so gorgeously and clean that they made me gasp so it's different from what i usually like but it's still so good! and lemme get sidetracked to talk about how clean his vocals are? he does a lot in jcs but you can tell he vocally improved a ton between the jcs revival boot and this tour. he's killing it. BUT CAROLINE BOWMAN. WOW. WOWOOWOWOWOW. she might have become my favorite eva. she was excellent. and stunning. and her voice was absolutely CRYSTALS. side note, i have to admit. my tennessee education, no matter how private it was, didn't educate me on the peróns all that much. so i don't know the story beyond the musical. like idk is they’re like… reallly bad. so sorry if talking about this musical is problematic. just let me know💀

Life After

PAUL ALEXANDER NOLAN!!! okay i've found that i like his voice better when it comes to modern musical theatre. and god he does quirky and dad so well. he's adorable, too. all of these actors are just so damn adorable. i had never heard of this musical actually but i received it in a trade and actually REALLY enjoyed it. it's a fun, modern, grief tale. kinda reminds me of deh a little bit stylistically (not plot wise.) it was a proshot and i absolutely loved it. AND I COULD RATE IN ON LETTERBOXD. it's very very very quirky and a nice story. it should have more life tbh. just very cutesy. i loved it. and the lead actress was very good too! and i might have related to the sister character far too much (and it's not just bc i'm a vegetarian o7) i recommend this one if you can get your hands on it.

SAVED BEST FOR LAST SO I COULD EAT MY PASTA WHILE WATCHING!! AMSTERDAM 2024 JCS AMSTERDAM 2024 JCS AMSTERDAM JCS 2024. oh lord the whump in this one. a pretty jesus. a pretty mary. a pretty judas. and oh my GOD they are suffering. i’m not going to spoil much bc it’s still a new boot and i want people to have a chance to go end blind but HOLY SHITTTTT. i literally had full body chills at the start. genuinely believe this was my fav jesus and that’s HARD (jack and ben i still adore you.) AMAZINGGG vocals from him. AND JUDAS IS TATTED WHICH IS ALWAYS A CROWD PLEASER. mary and simon were also SPECTACULAR. mary is so well done and i adore her character in this. and i never really pay much mind to simon but he was so perfect here and had more depth too. the ensemble in general was fantastic (and fruity!!) the main ships for me in this one is jesus x mary and judas x floor. annas and judas has flavor here tho 👀👀) AND HEROD?? (camera disappointed by not getting jesus during… that but it looks like someone was blocking the camera) @feerz was right everyone. it’s good food. GREAT food even.

ohmygod, in may i watched so many incredible movies. it really depends on what genre of film you’re interested in - but personally, i adored may december (2023), atonement (2007), the holdovers (2023) and about time (2013). i genuinely think i’m a sucker for cheesy found family films (the holdovers) and romance movies (about time + atonement). also may december was soooo interesting to watch and it really depicted the idea of the film so well.

also, i know ur a marauders fan too, so i’ll say one of the characters in the holdovers reminds me so much of sirius for some reason AND yk. the fancast for andromeda and ted is literally the main two in atonement.

sooooo i recommend those!
