How would you describe carnelian?? And how would you explain how it works/what it does in a simple way??

Carnelian is another MC1R mutation, so it compromises the eumelanin production just like amber and russet. The difference is that carnelian isn't fully recessive: it's intermediate, but only in tabbies. If i understand correctly, solid carnelian heterozygotes (aa Eec) are simple blacks (blues, black smokes ect), but tabbies (A_ Eec) are golden.

The authors of the paper that described the carnelian mutation introduced four different colors, corresponding with the A_ ecec ii, aa ecec ii, A_ Eec ii and A_ Eec I_ genotypes:

Carnelian agouti. This is an orange cat with darker orange pattern and lighened throat. There's no black pigment in the coat at all.

Carnelian non-agouti. Similarly orange cat with a tabby pattern (but weakened on the face). The throat has no lightening. No black pigment here either.

Gold carnelian carrier. Yellow-to-brown with some black tipping and darker brown tabby pattern. There's some brightening in color with age.

Silver carnelian carrier. The cat has silver tones on the back and golden on the underside, with a gradiant between the two. Black tipping is present.

LOOF standards also reflect this, giving heterozygotes the name "copal":

Carnelian: cats that are non particolor, non amber (E/-) with or without inhibitor gene (I/- or i/i), agouti or not (A/A, A/a or a/a), homozygous for ec carnelian mutation (ec/ec).

Copal: cats that are non particolor, non amber (E/-) with or without inhibitor gene (I/- or i/i), agouti (A/A or A/a), heterozygous for ec mutation (E/ec).

cowboy!buck !

enjoy a rough sketch of a curly haired cowboy buck with his bandana on while i yap about some hcs i have for the yeehaw 118 (mostly buck for this post)

buck was born and raised in pennsylvania, similar to his modern upbringing, except at the age of 12, right after maddie moves away with doug, he runs away from the family he feels abandoned him -- or moreso, the parents he never really felt he had in the first place.

at 13, he's adopted into the 118 gang by bobby, after narrowly escaping death at the hands of a corrupt lawman. bobby saves his life, and ends up adopting the reckless, angry teenager that is evan 'buck' buckley.

his horse is named calida! translating to hot/fiery in latin, she's a spirited and (you guessed it) fiery blonde chestnut thoroughbred, with a temperament that has always matched buck's.

the bandana he wears (although not coloured in this image) is navy blue! i plan on giving the entire gang a navy blue bandana somewhere in their design to tie them all together.

to no one's surprise, buck and eddie will in fact end up pursuing a relationship. i'm a buddie shipper 4 life. they carry out so many jobs for the gang and are a notorious duo. (which makes me think... buddie wanted posters??)

also just a small extra note: i probably won't end up writing much of this au, mostly because i'm more of an illustrator than i am writer, but if anyone ends up writing anything based on my silly little headcanons? i would LOVE to read! also would love to hear any thoughts anyone has!!

So are we going to make Haze a freak or not because I want her to collect bones from suspicious origin and wear them as jewlery.

Also I want her to know a lot about watch/clockmaking. I want her to have a collection of watches she either made, fixed or customized. Some of them have too many hands and seem to show anything but the time, but whatever logic there is behind it, Haze understands it and checks them regularly. Some are intricate and beautiful, with details painstakingly arranged so the watch becomes a literal work of art.

I want her to be a ghoulette summoned around Secondo's time, who was initially just there to take care of the many ancient clocks around the Ministry.

Idk I have many thoughts about my girl.

Simulanka fed us so well that was great....a W for the scara fans especially. The parallelism with Durin linking important pieces of the lore together while creating a heartwarming storyline with a solid message made for a pretty worthwhile investment.

The crumbs regarding Scaramouche's personal feelings and his lingering scars and insecurities, the subtle hints towards future plots that remain unresolved, and Scara's character development as overseen by traveler and Paimon were satisfying. Moments like when the traveler silently gave him a VERY loaded look after someone mentioned the hero of simulanka, and his snide and dodgy responses, his awkwardness and avoidance and Traveler's giddyness, absolutely sent me lol. The idea of making Scara act kinder to himself via extending kindness to his thematic match is pretty good, and having Durin put more words to the pain they share was nice. Scara is a refreshing hero to follow because he's self-aware and is more savvy than the other characters, so he comes off grounded and easy to empathize with in a more profound sense and he cuts through the bullshit and gets to the heart of things efficiently. I think it's cool and good writing that Scara was the hero of Simulanka because of his strong sense of compassion, one willing to show bravery in following that big heart of his. Coming immediately after the Sumeru archon all I can say is that his characterization is solid and very consistent. Plus, he's very fun when he's being mean, and while he shows that he knows what to do in his self-aware state of villain redemption limbo, he still acts in ways that make Paimon yell at him LOL.

Plus seeing scaramouche get flustered and angry because he's acting nice was like, crack cocaine, so.

It was very nice to see Navia and Nilou and Kirara as well. Surprisingly enough, this ragtag group of people worked well together. In my opinion, Kirara's presence was the weakest, but the Narrator Footnotes story was very, very fun to play through with the 4th wall breaking stuff and bright sense of humor. The themes in this event were rather interesting and heavily pandered towards some theories I've held about Teyvat its lore. I'm still confused about a lot of the lore drops so I gotta check out what the theorycrafters and meta posters are cooking up about this event. Nilou's chapter felt the weakest but she as a character came off pleasant still. Navia was gorgeous and I took a hundred screenshots wherever she was on screen.
