Do you have expectation/hopes for the rest of Deltarune? What do you expect will happen? Do you think that Gaster is related to all this? There was someone who said that the gameplay would probably be: during daytime Kris would travel to the Dark world, but then in the evening they would hang around time (and you would befriend/get to know better the people around town). What are your thoughts?
Hey there anon! I have a few expectations and ideas about what direction the game could go in that I've bounced back and forth with my brother. I'll do my best to compile them because the game has potential to go in a lot of cool directions!
First off personally I am completely on board with Gaster having an integral role in Deltarune. There are a lot of reasons why, this video in particular really made me get behind it. There's just so many hints to Gaster already in the game such as his leitmotif in most songs, the mystery man behind the tree, and the person at the opening of Deltarune that speaks in all caps, I think he is definitely involved with the game somehow.
A theory I like is that Gaster discovered/created the Dark World. In Undertale the CORE has totems that are labeled Darkness Totems.
(Screenshot from this video)
The CORE also has hints to Deltarune in it’s layout. It has two paths that both lead to The End (the room where you fight Mettaton). These two paths are the Warriors path (Susie) and the Mage's path (Ralsei). But again the sign explicitly states it doesn't matter which route you take, they all lead to The End. And Toby Fox confirmed that Deltarune will only have one ending.
With that being said I feel there's too many coincidences for Gaster not to be related to Deltarune. He did fall into his own creation (either being a machine that found the Dark World or the Dark World itself) after all, which supposedly shattered him across time and space. This could explain the nature of the Dark World, which seems like it was all just a fantasy when Susie and Kris somehow end up in the unused classroom in Deltarune. This also means he could very well be the knight that caused both the Spade King and Jevil to go crazy.
Jevil specifically told Seam before he was locked up that everything is a game and Seam states this was after Jevil met the knight. Assuming the Knight was Gaster it would imply Gaster has meta knowledge and knows the game is well, a game. This would explain why he is able to talk to the player during the intro.
So assuming Gaster is essentially playing God now that he’s been shattered across time and space and is possibly omnipotent (similar to Giygas from Earthbound who has influence on people and worlds beyond himself) he asks the player questions so he can create a vessel. But before we learn of the purpose of these questions he is cut off by someone else (I believe this person is the actual intended game or Toby if you wanna get really meta) who forces you to play Kris instead and states your answers are discarded. However, it's been discovered through data mining the files that the game DOES save your answers. Most likely this means Gaster will use your vessel later in the game for something, maybe as a vessel to house himself since the song is called ANOTHER HIM. It could also be that later in the game you will take control of the vessel if Kris rebels enough and does not allow you to play them anymore. Or you may even need to fight the vessel at some point. There are a lot of possibilities.
I think Gaster is also causing the Dark World to merge with the Hometown by throwing the fountains off balance, causing chaos basically. I believe this will cause strange events to happen in the town, specifically I think Noelle will go missing because Toby revealed her theme is called Lost Girl and stated that the song doesn't always play when she's around implying it could play when others think of her instead.
I think Gaster messing with the balance between the Dark World and the Lighteners World will cause Noelle to go missing in the Dark World. So Gaster’s tampering will begin to effect the outside world and have consequences. (It’s also possible it’ll have something to do with Noelle’s Dad as well...)
I am also hopeful the game will explain some of Sans backstory since it seems he is somehow related to Gaster (having the Gaster Blaster). There’s also the picture in his room in Undertale that shows three people and says don't forget on the back that could imply he has some relation to Deltarune's Don't Forget theme. There's also his song called It's Raining Somewhere Else in Undertale and his mentions of wanting to go back. And then of course the restaurant crossword puzzle that he has in Undertale looks like it’s from Deltarune's restaurant. There's a theory video that even explores him possibly being a Darkner that brings up some interesting points as well.
Sorry if I got slightly sidetracked there heh. I really like the idea that during the day you go to the Dark World and then get to interact with the Hometown characters in the evening. It looks like you'll go back and forth between the Dark World and the Hometown for a while so I could totally see that happening and if the Dark World does start affecting the Hometown it would be interesting to slowly see the influences it has. It might also make the Hometown less unsettling for me; when I was exploring the town it just seemed too perfect and almost unreal.
A couple other ideas/hopes:
My brother had this one - possibly having a Dark World area in Asgore’s house with a reference to Flowey or even a Dark World version of Flowey
Being able to fully play Susie and/or Ralsei at some point
Sans teams up with you as a party member in an area of the game and Megalovania plays as the battle theme during this sequence
Depending on the players actions Kris will sometimes completely rebel against you, refusing to do certain actions
Susie helps find Noelle (if she’s missing) and they get together
You can travel back to the unused classroom part of the Dark World and visit characters like Seam and Lancer again
I could totally be off on a few things here, but I'm still excited to see if any of this is confirmed in the future!
#i could talk about gaster all day lol#hopefully i outlined everything clearly thanks again for the ask anon!#deltarune#deltarune theory#wd gaster#gaster#anon friend!#tati speaks#asks
