Martha Jones - Jesus Christ parallels (never thought i'd write a sentence like this)
there's the other one who has sent me
For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say. (John 12:49-50)
Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. (John 5:24)
I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. (John 5:30b)
I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is trustworthy, and what I have heard from him I tell the world. They did not understand that he was telling them about his Father. So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him. (John 8:26-29)
[...] for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. (John 8:42b)
etc., and so on...

The State Birds Initiative: Pennsylvania (#2)
Welcome to the second official poll of the State Birds Initiative! Before the poll, though, one thing real quick. My suggestion is that you read the post below before voting in the poll below. That's especially important if you're lacking any context about the birds being presented as the new (or old) State Bird of the Keystone State, Pennsylvania. This is to be fully informed as to why these are being presented, and to make your choices appropriately. Lastly, some of these birds, you will notice, may go against some of the rules listed in the introduction post. All is explained after the jump where the explanations are, I promise you that. But with that...OK! Here's the poll! More choices this time, but that's definitely a bit deceptive. Trust me, read the stuff after the jump, you'll see why.
LET'S GO PHILLY
Kidding on two fronts. One, not a massive sports fan, and not really a fan of any Philadelphia teams (I love Gritty, though. Always and forever.). And two, this is obviously not a post about Philadelphia. So, let's talk about the Quaker State, Pennsylvania! The capital is Harrisburg, while its biggest city is Philadelphia. Pennsylvania is, of course, the first capital of these United States, and arguably the seat of the country. It's the home of Benjamin Franklin (even though it wasn't his birthplace), the Liberty Bell, the Constitution, and Rocky Balboa. And of course, its perfect symbol: Gritty.
God, he's beautiful. The perfect mascot. Who cares about the Flyers; Gritty's who I'm rooting for. Anyway, amazing and unassailable symbols of chaos aside, we're here to talk about Pennsylvania's natural world. So, what are we looking at. Well, it's a mostly deciduous forest-dominated state, so we're looking at seasonal forests and probably seasonal birds...for the most part. At the very least, our ideal bird is a forest resident and breeder in the state. Nothing too unusual or difficult to find.
Birding in Pennsylvania is pretty stereotypical to that of the northeastern United States. There are a few major spots, especially those that graze the Appalachian Mountain Range, which runs through the state. As for conservation concern, habitats of focus are the Appalachian forests that are often deforested for development, especially in the areas near Philadelphia. No real surprise, but that's a good target for conservation focus.
As for Pennsylvania's culture, it's famously descendant of the Quakers, who founded the state under the leadership of William Penn. This isn't to say that Pennsylvanians are Quakers; if you've been to Philadelphia, you know that's not true. According to a few accounts I've seen, that essentially means there's an attitude of helpfulness to your neighbor within the state, as well as a cultivation of the value of hard work. It's also a state that prides its history pretty thoroughly, from Philadelphia's various museums and public historical monuments, to the historical communities that thrive in the state, like the Lancaster Amish. Not sure how either of those will translate themselves into birds, but...hey, we'll see, right?
I also saw somebody refer to PA as heavily into "snack culture". And I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I WILL take the opportunity to say one thing: do not waste money on the cheesesteaks at Pat's or Geno's. It's meant to attract tourists, and they aren't worth it, BELIEVE ME. There are better cheesesteaks in the city, from what I've heard, but those two are...not worth the money. Just trust me on this one.
That said, it's time to look for a proper state bird for Pennsylvania. There's some emphasis there on the "proper", and the first entry in the following section has an explanation by that. With that, let's go for it! State Bird nominations for Pennsylvania below the jump!
Ruffed Grouse (Bonasa umbellus)
OK, let's start with the current bird highlighted by Pennsylvania, the Ruffed Grouse (Bonasa umbellus). Now, I love these guys. If you've never experienced it, walking through the woods and suddenly hearing a deep thrumming echo through the trees is...it's a unique sensation. You wonder where it's coming from, why and how it's so loud, what's making it, and then...it just pops up. Maybe it sees you looking for it, and you flush it out and watch a panicking male run away. Maybe he just looks back at you puffed up and stands his ground a bit (which is unlikely, but still). Either way, these guys never cease to put a smile on my face.
This behavior is called drumming, by the way, as pictured above. A male grouse will position themselves on a hollow fallen tree, and use it as a megaphone to send out these vibrations across swathes of territory. It is, unsurprisingly, a territorial behavior for the grouse, and iconic in its own way. Now, a few more facts about the Ruffed Grouse. The name, by the way, comes from the feathers on the sides of the male's neck, which are erected during courtship and territorial displays. It's obviously colored to camouflage in the fallen leaves of deciduous forests, where it resides throughout the year. They're granivorous members of the Galliformes (grouse, pheasants, quail, etc.), and fairly common in the Eastern United States. But with that said...here's the big problem with this choice for State Bird.
It isn't a State Bird. It's a State Game Bird.
Yeah, remember the Delaware Blue Hen from the last poll (assuming you read it, here it is if you didn't)? I suggested that it should be the State Game Bird of Delaware, rather than the State Bird. Well, right next door to Delaware, Pennsylvania already has a State Game Bird in the form of the Ruffed Grouse. Why, you ask? Well, first off, the Ruffed Grouse is actuall known as the "King of the Gamebirds" colloquially, crowned such by William Harnden Foster, the father of skeet shooting. Yes, actually. But anyway, the bird was declared the State Game Bird in 1931, but there was not real reason why outside of popularity with hunters. So...OK, fair enough. It just means that the Ruffed Grouse is not a State Bird. But should it be?
The question asked here is, should the Ruffed Grouse be promoted to a State Bird, since most Pennsylvanians seem to think of it as such anyway? Well, looking at the guidelines we've previously set and established...I don't know, honestly. And my main reason for doubt, personally, is the fact that the grouse, while found in Pennsylvania, is BARELY a breeder in the state. Only 0.4% of the bird's overall breeding population is in Pennsylvania, and only 13% is in the United States at all. And yes, that means the species is mostly found in...
So, when you think about it, is this truly the answer to the PA State Bird question? Well, it does represent much of the biome of Pennsylvania, a forest-dominated state squarely in the temperate and deciduous zone. It has a history and culture of hunting, and the grouse is certainly one of the most popular species on that front. And they're certainly iconic, and easy to hear in most forests, not to mention fun to look and listen for for beginning birders. The first time I stumbled on a Ruffed Grouse was, lemme tell you, a delight. And the second time, I LITERALLY stumbled on them, because a mother and her chicks were running away from me, and one of the chicks ran between my feet from behind me to join its mother, and I have NEVER BEFORE FELT MORE LIKE A DISNEY PRINCESS UNTIL THAT MOMENT IT WAS FUCKING MAGICAL
But, yeah, with that said, I submit the Ruffed Grouse for your deliberation as a State Bird. And as for a State Game Bird...oh, I've got a thought on that one, too. But I'll save that until the end, I think.
Scarlet Tanager (Piranga olivaceus)
So, as before, let's start the replacement options with a bird suggested by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and a solid-ass pick for a number of reasons. The Scarlet Tanager is one of the most striking birds in the eastern United States, and there's no state with a larger breeding population of these birds than Pennsylvania. 13% of the species' global breeding population is found in PA, making the state a major staging point for the species. Native to and dependent upon the deciduous forests of the state, this is a hidden ornithological icon.
Chestnut-sided Warbler (Setophaga pensylvanica)
Well, if I had the Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) listed for Delaware, it only makes sense to list the Chestnut-sided Warbler (Setophaga pensylvanica) for Pennsylvania! Similarly, it's the only species that have Pennsylvania as a state in the species name. And trust me, this is a rare luxury, either because most states have no bird species named for them, or a LOT of bird species named for them. Just wait for the Carolinas or California, believe me. But that said, is the Chestnut-sided Warbler a good fit for Pennsylvania?
Well, it certainly breeds in the state; the majority of the global population breeds in Canada, like the Ruffed Grouse, but a good amount still breeds in the deciduous temperate forests of the USA. The PA breeding population represents 3% of the global breeding population, and as compared to Michigan's 7%, Pennsylvania still doesn't have the majority. But again, let's put that statistic to the wayside. Is there anything else about the Chestnut-sided Warbler that represents Pennsylvania in a meaningful way? Well...no. Not, not really. There is a story of John James Audubon (yes, that Audubon, the racist one), and his first AND ONLY sighting of the Chestnut-sided Warbler, which took place in eastern Pennsylvania, alongside his hunt for the species throughout his life. So, hey, there's a tie. But other than that, this is another opportunity to choose an handsome looking bird that serves as a unique bird to look for for Pennsylvanians, any of whom can say, "Hey, I've seen that bird! Cool!"
...Wait, I just realized something about this category of choice. Pennsylvania has more species name reputation than I thought...indirectly. Hmm. Let's combine their entries.
Philadelphia Vireo (Vireo philadelphicus) Bonaparte's Gull (Chroicocephalus philadelphia) Mourning Warbler (Geothlypis philadelphia)
There are, in total, three species that are named after the great city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. And this is both the only one with the city name in its common name...and also the worst choice of the three. At least the Bonaparte's Gull (Chroicocephalus philadelphia) and the Mourning Warbler (Geothlypis philadelphia) breed in the state. And for the record, those are up for debate for this spot if anybody world prefer those go in there. But if those are better options (barely; both birds also barely breed in Pennsylvania), then why choose the Philadelphia Vireo?
Is it iconic? To birdwatchers, maybe, but mostly because it's a pretty difficult bird to get when you're starting out. I've seen them, but it's not easy to find them. And to the layman? It's a little green bird that lives in green trees. Oof. Hard sell for a state bird. At least Bonaparte's Gull (above) is visible on bodies of water, and a fairly common bird alongside being an unusual-looking gull for most people. Plus, hey, they're kinda handsome and cute in my opinion. What about the Mourning Warbler (below)? While also somewhat difficult to find by virtue of being a little green bird, has a notable and memorable appearance. But you could also argue that it belongs rightly to other states instead.
But the Philadelphia Vireo? Yeah, it's the worst candidate of the three, but...it's also the only warbler who once carried the name Brotherly-Love Vireo. Yeah. As in Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love? That is a good reason. However, you could argue that, given the fact that the work "philadelphia" is literally Greek for "brotherly love"...it's still a flimsy argument. But hey, I'd be remiss if I didn't include these guys on this list for State Bird, even if I...doubt they're gonna get any votes.
Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)
For one of two conservation-related entries of this post, let's take a look at the Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus). Now, to get this out of the way, the Pileated Woodpecker is all over the Eastern USA. These big, crow-sized woodpeckers (and these guys are HUGE when you see them for the first time; love 'em) are a common sight in deciduous and coniferous forests (the predominant habitat in PA), and are most certainly breeders in Pennsylvania. They're iconic enough, fun to find, and can be detected through signs they leave in trees. Namely, of course, I'm referring to the nest hollows they make in trees for their offspring, as well as holes made to search for insects. But, OK, same question as always, why suggest it for the PA State Bird?
The pileated woodpecker, as the big bird it is, is an ecosystem modeler. What this means is, those holes they carve in trees are used by other species, including owls, squirrels, weasels, ducks, and various others that live in the same areas. Pennsylvania's wildlife isn't above using Pileated Woodpecker holes for their own uses, making the birds extremely important for other species. Ecosystem architects are not uncommon in nature. Most of your probably think of the American Beaver (Castor canadensis) or the American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) when that topic comes up, but there are many others. In ecology, there's a term for species that modify their environments in ways that become significant for the survival of other species. Because other species rely on them, they're referred to as keystone species.
Get it?
Pennsylvania is also known as the Keystone State. And, like beavers and alligators before them, woodpeckers are also keystone species. This isn't a commonly talked about aspect of woodpeckers, but the Pileated Woodpecker in particular is getting some recent attention as a keystone species. So, why not highlight this recently proposed classification and give the Keystone State a Keystone Species for its State Bird? It serves as a lesson in ecology for everyone, school kids or the uninformed, and it's a great way to make the State Bird about Pennsylvania's ecosystems. Conservation-focused, and an iconic species to boot!
Do I think the Pileated Woodpecker is the best species for Pennsylvania on it's own merits? I don't know, honestly. Like I said before, it's a fun-to-find iconic bird, it breeds in the state, and there's not real reason it shouldn't be the state bird. But I really like the idea of giving the Keystone State a keystone species, and not a lot of North American birds act in that role. If anybody has a better suggestion, I am all ears, but I think this one works pretty well. Plus, hey, there's only one woodpecker amongst the State Birds, which is a shame! Who doesn't love woodpeckers?
American Goshawk (Accipiter atricapillus)
For the other conservation entry of this list, we once again turn to a raptor, and a damned cool one at that. Previously referred to as the northern goshawk, the American Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) is a silent and efficient predator. One of the most skilled forest flyers amongst the accipiter hawks, these birds specialize in rodents and birds that live in the trees, and are amazing at weaving through the understory to catch their prey. I adore goshawks, and they're honestly a bit terrifying. I used to work at a raptor rehabilitation facility which bred these guys in central New York, and they're beautiful and terrifying. Also, I've held one in a towel burrito, and that was a highlight of my life.
Now, with that said, the goshawk is barely found in Pennsylvania in recent years, although it used to be quite common. The Fish and Game Department, alongside Audubon, have this as a species of major concern and focus in Pennsylvania, despite (for because of) a very small breeding population. But there's a sad reason for this, making this a VERY good candidate for State Bird. See, in the 1900s, goshawks were considered pests, due to their love of chicken and wild game birds. Therefore, they were regularly shot, and Pennsylvania in particular offered rewards for their bodies.
By 1931, goshawk populations in Pennsylvania plummeted. This was also when the early 20th century environmentalist movements started, and this issue in particular was noticed by environmentalist and suffragette Rosalie Edge. To save hawk populations in Pennsylvania, she purchased a piece of land to bar the hawk-hunters on the property. This was called Hawk Mountain, and was founded in 1934 as the world's first raptor preserve. Yeah. Not only was it the first of these, but one of the first (if not THE first) created by a woman. Let's fucking go. Rosalie was a known bad-ass in conservation, and regularly did shit like this for what she believed in. An unsung hero of conservation and ornithology.
The hawk hunts ended alongside the Pennsylvania Game Commission in the 1950s, and raptor conservation continued on as a major movement in the state of Pennsylvania. Hawk Mountain in particular became a massive centerpoint of this, and today, it's maybe the most famous place in the United States to watch the annual fall and spring migrations of raptors. The raptor counts at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary are an annual bonanza, attracting birders from near and far. Haven't made it there yet myself, but it's on my list of must-bird locations. I implore you to learn more about this wonderful place. Check out their YouTube channel if you want to know more from their perspective! And it's all based on the impressive conservation story of the American Goshawk. I think that makes it a pretty goddamn good candidate for State Bird. Brings attention to conservation history, and on a major natural phenomenon that can be seen every year in Pennsylvania. Pretty goddamn cool.
The hell is even left after that? Well...
Wild Turkey (Melagris gallopavo)
OK, hear me out here. Of ALL the birds in the USA, if there is any state should have more federal recognition, it's the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo). It's the only bird that essentially has a holiday dedicated to it (OK, dedicated to killing and eating it, but you get what I mean). It's also, notoriously, the alleged runner-up for national bird, having lost to the Bald Eagle (Halieetus leucocephalus). To be fair, here, that's a potential urban myth, but an important one regardless, especially to Pennsylvania.
Other than this, though, everybody knows what a Turkey looks like. It's arguably one of the top 5 iconic wild birds of the USA, and is very common throughout the country. It is, in fact, found in every one of the Lower 48, and in Hawaii (introduced there). Not Alaska, though. Which is good, because frozen turkey is dangerous. Ha ha ha. But is that an argument for Pennsylvanis to have it as the State Bird, or even as the State Game Bird? Because that's also an option, for the record. I argue, though, that Alabama, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and South Carolina already have it as a State Game Bird, which especially makes sense for Alabama, which is prime turkey-hunting ground. As is, for that matter, Pennsylvania. Turkey season here is longer than in most places, and according to HuntStand, it's basically a culture there in and of itself. So, yeah, appropriate on that front alone. But that said...Pennsylvania should own the turkey for one more important reason.
I mean...Benjamin Franklin. Come on. You gotta give it to Pennsylvania's favorite son. I've been to the Franklin Institute, I KNOW how beloved he is in PA. And Benjamin Franklin, famously, loved two things: wild sex parties with older women, and the Wild Turkey. AND I QUOTE:
For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. ...For the Truth the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America… He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage, and would not hesitate to attack a Grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on.”
Now, contrary to popular belief, this is not Franklin saying the Wild Turkey should be the national bird. This is, instead, Frankling saying that he fucking hates the Bald Eagle, whom he sees as a lazy, thieving, selfish, disrespectful, manipulative asshole. So, yeah, in retrospect, not an inappropriate symbol for some parts of the country. But regardless, he's right about turkeys: they do not give a shit about your boundaries if you're on their land. Trust me, I live in an area of New England where there are some BIG fuckin' turkeys, and they WILL CHASE YOU if you mess with them. I SEEN IT
With that, though, I think we've covered the major candidates for the State Bird of Pennsylvania. Any I've missed or forgotten? Any suggestions you may have? I'm all ears! Make sure to vote, and come back for state #3: New Jersey. Which...I think a lot of us have thoughts on. Although, hey...I don't hate the State Bird. Well, as a bird, anyway; I'm indifferent to it as NJ's bird. More context next time, I promise.
See you soon, and happy birding!

What if each of the Links' biggest phobias/irrational fears were based upon the trauma of their predecessor?
Some of these are angsty and some ended up kinda funny.
Creepy Enemies (Disembodied Hands)
Hyrule hummed thoughtfully as he tossed a short stick into the campfire. He glanced up at the other boys seated around and asked carefully, "Are there any kinds of enemies that really creep you guys out? Just curious."
"Disembodied hands," Twilight answered quickly.
"Hey! I was gonna say that." Wind grumbled.
Legend pondered a moment before squinting at the flames and replying, "Actually... the same as them."
Hyrule raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Not fans of wallmasters huh?"
"Hands that come out of the ground are worse..." The youngest shivered.
"Oh," Twilight grimaced. "Yeah. I don't like the sound of that."
Water
"Come on, Hyrule!" Wind called across the gap. He studied the other boy's expression as Hyrule hesitantly inched closer to the edge of the dark water. "It's okay if you get wet! I have an easy way to dry off!"
"That... That's not the problem..." Hyrule replied with a shaky voice.
"What?"
"I can't swim." The brunette backed away from the edge and locked his worried gaze with Wind.
"Really?" Wind tilted his head curiously. "Why?"
"I never learned. Deep water... makes me anxious." Hyrule crouched with his palms on the ground. Magic vibrated under his skin as he readied to jump. "You might want to stand back!"
Hyrule launched himself over the divide filled with the dark abyss of water and stumbled to safety. His friend joined him at his side with a kind smile.
"Are you good?" Hyrule nodded after a moment. Wind continued,"I'll try to avoid deep water next time."
Sneaking up from behind
"Four."
A hand gripped his shoulder. Four jolted.
"AH! NAYRU!" He swung around franticly and his fist collided with the unfortunate person's stomach.
"Gah!" Warriors doubled over with a groan. "Gods! You've got a killer left hook, Smithy..."
"Captain! Ah! I'm sorry! It was his own fault. Why did you sneak up on u-me?!" Four's eye color changed rapidly before landing on grey. He breathed slowly soothing the chaotic colors in his brain. "I'm sorry, Captain. Are you alright?"
"I'll be fine..." the man ground out as he straightened his posture. He kept his hand pressed to his gut. "Everyone is turning in for the night so we should head back. You wouldn't want them to worry would you?"
The short teen marched past him. "Of course not. Let's go."
"Are you okay, Smithy?" Warriors raised a brow at the teen's unusual behavior.
"Yes I am. You just... startled me."
"If you're sure..."
Ghosts
"Can we not go into a suspicious probably haunted basement?" Warriors glared at the old rotting staircase leading into the dark.
"What's wrong, Captain? Afraid of ghosts?" Legend snarked already half way down.
"Yes actually!" Warriors growled. Ghost were dangerous. They can injure or possess people and the like. What's worse is that they aren't easily defeated by the sword. "Why aren't you?"
Legend shrugged and descended into the darkness. "Eh. They get old after a while."
Warriors stared at the inky abyss that Legend submerged into with an unsettled stomach.
"Come on, Captain! We don't have all day!"
Steeling himself, Warriors carefully crept down the creaking rickety stairs. He sucked in a sharp breath as an unnatural cold gust rushed past his ear. He shivered and at last he had reached the floor.
He scanned the dark for movement and for any glimpse of a blue cap. Finding nothing but his growing unease, he called out, "Vet? I can't see where you are!"
Legend's voice hollered back sounding painfully far away, "Keep up! Honestly, I had no idea you could get like this!"
The Captain stumbled in the direction of his friend's voice only to be yanked to a stop when his scarf tightened around his neck.
"Agh! What the hell?!" He choked out as he tugged on the fabric to loosen it.
Nearby something slammed on the floor. Warriors felt his breath leave his lungs as the sudden need to be silent paralyzed him.
The cold gust whispered in his ear once more as a creeping sensation crawled up his back. His heartbeat thundered in his chest. Too loud. Too loud. They'll hear...
Thumping footsteps echoed in the dark. They're coming...
The greeting of a warm glow of a lantern caused the terrified hylian to squint.
"Captain?" Legend called as he approached. His tone was carefully maintained as indifferent, but to those who knew the hero of legend he was poorly masking his concern.
"There's something here..." Warriors responded barely above a whisper.
Legend frowned at his uncharacteristic behavior and grabbed the man's wrist attempting to pull him along. "We're wasting time."
"Wait!" Warriors coughed and tugged on his scarf again. "I'm stuck."
At his strained voice, Legend stopped immediately and glanced behind them. The scarf was taut and lead into the darkness where the light of the lamp didn't reach. He released Warriors' wrist to examine the cloth closer.
Warriors stumbled backward, but the scarf remained strained. "Come on!" He groaned as he struggled against it. Impossibly, the scarf seemed to tug back and Warriors began to lose his footing.
Realizing too late what would happen, Legend frantically reached for his hand again. As their fingertips brushed against each other the Captain's feet slipped from underneath him.
"Legend, help!" Warriors cried out as he was yanked into the abyss.
Shrill laughter swirled around the maze of a basement and the cold gust snuffed out the glow of the lantern.
Legend cursed his luck. So much for finding the others as soon as possible.
(Giant) Spiders
"Wild. Wild! Stop walking!" Twilight's voice ahead of him caused him to glance up from his sheikah slate. To his immediate horror he was met face to face with a huge white skull which had eight spindly legs growing out from the sides.
"Ahhh! What?!" He cried as he fell back away from the monster. "What is that?!"
With a grunt, green goo sprayed the ground and the monster disappeared into a cloud of purple smoke.
"You almost walked into a Skulltula." Twilight reported as he shook the revolting goo off his sword. "You gotta be careful around them. Their bites are nasty."
"That's what the giant spider is called?" Wild shuddered as he followed the rancher further into the cave. "I thought that the largest species of spiders only grew to about the size of a dinner plate! This is so much worse!"
Twilight threw a smile over his shoulder. "I'm guessing you've never fought an armogohma before? Good for you."
"What's that? A spider the size of a guardian?" The Champion crossed his arms with a disturbed expression.
Twilight's smile grew sheepish as he seemed to regret his words.
"Eh... it's best you don't know..." He turned around and continued on into the cave.
"Wait... wait no... That means that it's even bigger!" Wild impossibly looked even more disgusted and clutched his bow like a lifeline.
Bells
Bong bong bong
Link shot up in his bed. What was he doing?! He didn't have time to be laying around like this!
Bong bong bong
He was too late! The world was ending! Everyone would perish because he had wasted so much time!
Bong bong bong
The final tolls of the bell rang out declaring his failure to the world. Where was his ocarina? He rummaged frantically through his bags.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I'll fix everything," he muttered aloud.
"Time?"
A soft voice cut through his mind numbing panic like a ray of sun through a storm. He heard the sheets rustle as Sky nearly tumbled out of the other bed.
With shaking hands, Time placed his instrument back into his travel bag and set the bag down. He turned to the younger hylian as he groggily walked his way over.
"I'm alright, Sky..." he whispered to the young knight. Gently, he placed his hands on his shoulders to steady the boy. "You should go back to sleep."
"You didn't sound very alright earlier," Sky mumbled completely ignoring the second half of Time's words. He yawned. "Wha's goin' on?"
"I had a... an episode," Time decided to answer honestly yet vaguely. He steered Sky back to the bed and sat him down. "Don't worry about it. You helped me out so I really should thank you."
"Oh..." Sky blinked at him for a moment before he reached up and brushed his hand over Time's cheek.
Time froze at the action. A mere moment later he took notice of the wetness of his cheek. He had been crying in his panic then?
"Are you going to be able to sleep too?" Sky asked, turning to squint at the window. "Those bells were kinda loud for people to be ringing this... late? Early?"
Time nodded in answer. "I just need to get some water first."
Seemingly satisfied with that answer, Sky slid under the bedding and tried to get some more sleep before the morning.
With a heavy sigh, Time exited the room and closed the door with a click.
Bonus: Claustrophobia/Imprisonment
The knight of Skyloft slowly blinked away the tendrils of unconsciousness from his eyes. It was dark. Pain lanced his temples when he raised his head. He winced. His hair was matted on one side and stuck to his face. That discomfort was accompanied by the metallic scent of blood.
He groaned at the throbbing in his skull and made an effort to touch it. To his distress he found that he could not move his arm. Frantically, he glanced to his right. His arm was stretched outward and chained to the wall with no slack to grant him movement. He was suddenly very aware of the ache across his shoulders and back. A glance down at his legs revealed that he was fixed above the floor and currently incapable of moving his legs either as the were shackled to the floor not unlike his arms.
"How... how did I get here?" He wondered as he glanced about his cell. An inkling of anxiety began to grow when he noticed that all of the walls were made of dark stone and the door appeared to be a thick sheet of metal. It was impossible to know what was happening outside of the room because of the lack of windows.
The darkness seemed to curl in on him even though his eyes had adjusted to it. The air was cold and it bit at his lungs as he breathed it in. He shivered, causing the chains to clink.
"Where is everyone?" It was so quiet. His breaths sounded painfully loud to his ears. "No one's here..."
His breathing picked up and his head and heart started pounding rapidly as panic settled in. This room was too narrow. The ceiling was unnervingly low. It would crush him. He needed the sky. He needed to see the sky.
He yanked fruitlessly at the chains sending a twinge of pain up his arms. He cried out in frustration and panic before letting himself droop in exhaustion. Eyes wide yet unseeing, he breathed shaky breaths as his ears rang unbearably.
***
"The shadow is retreating!" Twilight yelled to Time over the din of the battle. "Go find him! We'll take care of the rest here!"
"Alright! Be careful!" Time answered his successor. He turned to their shortest member. "You're with me, Smithy."
"Got it!" Four confirmed and followed after.
A moment later Wild ran alongside them. "Let me come too."
Four's eyes narrowed slightly at the older boy. He sighed. "Fine. Be sure to keep your emotions in check Champion."
Wild merely grunted in reply.
Finally, they arrived at the dungeon underneath the abandoned castle. It was cold, dark and damp like a cave. Almost all the way down the hall of cells the doors were open. They carefully made their way through, wary of any traps that might presently spring.
When at last they stood before the only closed door, Four glanced about cautiously. "There weren't any traps. Strange... It's almost like the shadow wanted us to find Sky. It gave the battle up so easily... What's it's motive here?"
"It's like it's observing us, our actions, how we react to what it does." Time hypothesized as he watched Wild break open the lock on the metal door.
The door was shoved open with a shriek of metal on stone and Time heard Four gasp upon entering the room. Glancing up, he rushed forward.
"Sky! Are you alright?" Time gently lifted the young man's chin off his chest to see his face.
Sky blinked slowly but he seemed to stare straight through the hero of time with his eyes clouded. His breathing was harsh and shallow and his frame shook with each breath.
Time frowned. He glanced to the boys next to him. "Smithy, Champion, get the chains off him. I'll make sure he doesn't fall."
"Got it!" Four replied already digging out his fire and ice rods. He handed one to Wild and set to work. "Freeze the right one. Lower the temperature as much as you can then switch with me."
Time turned his focus back to the boy before him. He wrapped his arms around his torso and braced himself as he listened to the humming magic, the licking of flame and the chime of ice.
With a snap and the clanging of chains against the walls, Sky slumped into Time's embrace. He groaned. His arms and back still ached terribly.
"We'll get you out in a minute and then we'll take you back to camp to rest." Time whispered to him. Slowly, he sunk to the floor and maneuvered the boy so he could see his face. Sky's expression remained blank. "Sky? Can you hear me?"
When he was met with silence again, he reached for the boy's hand. He gave it a little squeeze and rubbed his thumb over his knuckles. To Time's relief Sky's pale, cold fingers curled around his own.
Sky fixed his gaze upon the face of the man who was cradling him. The hero of time smiled faintly in return, the corners of his lips slightly quirking up. "Hello. Are you with us now, knight of Skyloft?"
The boy in question squeezed his hand shakily, his deep blue eyes never leaving Time's face. "Please, get me out..." he pleaded breathless and quiet as a silent tear slipped down his cheek. "I can't breathe. Please..."
Time felt a sudden twinge in his heart at the boy's words and a righteous anger simmered under his skin. He held him closer and ran a hand through his crimson stained hair detangling it in an attempt to soothe the young knight. "They're almost done. Just a second. Only a second and then we're out."
Another snap rang out in the cell and Sky was scooped up and raced out of the dungeon.
When the four Links finally burst out into the forest, Sky found he could breathe deeply once more. He calmed down significantly, yet he was still unnerved by the manacles around his wrists and ankles.
Four smiled at him sympathetically, his eyes shining a rose red, when he was noticeably staring at them. "Sorry, Sky. It would've been too dangerous to remove those while we were in there. I'll take care of them when we get back to camp, okay?"
Sky nodded in response. He made an effort to ignore the metal bands; however, it was hard to when the small length of chain still attached to them clinked with every step Time took.
Turning around to face him as he continued to walk backwards, Wild piped up, "I'm sorry too, this probably wouldn't have happened if I had been watching your back."
Sky waved a hand. "It's not your fault. I should have been more vigilant. The shadow was targeting me and had me drift away from you during the battle."
"Exactly why we should prepare so it doesn't happen again," Time cut in.
Wild sighed and turned forward again before adding, "I have the Master Sword in my slate just so you know."
Sky let himself relax in Time's arms. He closed his eyes and listened to the birds chirping and the leaves rustling in the breeze. "Thank you, Champion."
The group broke into the clearing where the camp was nestled in the center. They settled down and moments later the rest of the Links joined them with smiles of relief just as the sun sank low in the sky.
I did not mean to write a whole one shot for Sky. Please, Courage try not to be so obviously biased.
Anyway~
Lege, Twi and Wind get their fear of Wallmasters, floor masters and other things from the hero of time. Who has fought those enemies plus deadhand and bongo bongo. I think Lege might also have a fear of getting lost. He loves his maps.
Hyrule gets his fear of water from Legend. YaBoi went sailing one day, caught a storm and got shipwrecked and then Link's Awakening happened and he accidentally erased everyone on koholint, including his girlfriend.
Four gets his fear of being attacked from behind from Sky. Four hasn't had the best luck when it comes to betrayal especially in the manga. And then there's Ghirahim.
Wars gets his fear of Ghosts *cough*and basements *cough* from our beloved hero of the winds. Wars was hard to decide for and I ended up basing it purely off of Wind rather than something that paralleled. The ghost ship in Phantom Hourglass is pretty creepy and so is the labyrinth under Grandma's house in Wind Waker.
Wild gets his fear of giant spiders from Twilight. This one was also difficult to decide so I did a thing similar as with Wars. Twilight Princess's Armogoma is freaking huge arachnid that you have to squash with a statue. Did you know that the boss fight could have been a chase sequence instead? There's a small clip in a TP trailer where Link is being chased through the hallways by a gargantuan spider. No thank you.
Time gets his fear of bells from Four. I'm sure most of you reading this know about the hero of time's adventure in Termina. The clock tower in the town counting down the days hours minutes till the end of the world slowly but not slow enough. The people never knowing how many times they had lived those three days over and over. Never knowing that their lives were in the hands of a child too old and too young. Four was a child too when he was tasked with saving his best friend and the world as well. He raced against time and the tolling of the bell, tearing through enemies as fast as he could to save Zelda from her soul being ripped out and being turned to stone forever.
Sky gets his fear of imprisonment and claustrophobia from Wars. Ah no. He gets it from the first hero, the knight of Hylia. At first I didn't know whether to include Sky or not but of course me not being biased at all had to (big mistake). The first hero(who I call Chosen) was imprisoned for seven years on unjust charges by his own people. Then when calamity struck they released him and had the audacity to ask for his help. He decided to help them but YaBoi needed a sandwich first and didn't get one so he died in battle.
I wrote everything above in September of last year lol. It’s also no longer spoopy season anymore but I thought y’all might enjoy this.

I love hazbin hotel but....nerdy prudes must did MANY things BETTER
I currently have a love-hate relationship with Hazbin Hotel, because whether I like it or not it was part of my adolescence since I saw the pilot, but I must admit that it has flaws that irritate me a lot and I know that it irritates others too:
my main problems are:
1) the humor is too immature to be a program "for adults" (there are fans who are not even older, I'm not saying that, the conventions say it💀),its the humor of a teenager that recently learned what swear words are.
They pretend this show is more complex and deep than it really is,they want us yo believe that this is how an adult show works when,NO???? THERE'S PLENTY OF ADULT SHOWS THAT WORKS WITHOUT CONSTANT SWEARING AND SEX JOKES! like My Aventures with Superman, Moral Orel, Bob's Burgers and others!
The audience of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss are mostly teenagers, not even adults.
2) the villains have no depth nor are they intimidating, I'm talking especially about VALENTINO and ADAM (as much as I love Adam, I don't feel intimidated by his presence) and they don't feel like a real problem for the protagonists.
ADAM is the biggest villain of the first season but i never see him as a threat, the characters don't feel in danger,he is not a bigger evil they should care about. Adam had a lot of potential to be the big villain they tell us he is,he in fact had the potential to be the best character of the series but they just make him a douchebag just for the sake of being one,he has no motivations besides being a sadist that enjoys killing his descendants and fucking around.
VALENTINO is just a petty manchild that is intimidating in just one scene and after that there is no other moment where that threatening persona shows up again,he is not a real threat even if he is important to Angel Dust arc, they could put travis in his place and is just the same shit, nothing changes.
3) the characters have no variety, the lack of diversity and other colors that are not red is so annoying to me as a person who likes to find variety on colors and shapes, but all, i mean ALL characters have red in their clothing and it makes that they mix with the background in a way that gives me the ICK.
In the part of body shapes is the same problem, the only characters that are not skinny twinks/voluptuous chicks are antagonists or villains, they just make the fat characters annoying just to make the audience like the skinny ones more.
The women and men bodies are practically the SAME FUCKING THING:
Vivziepop only knows hourglass and twink bodies.
And as a fashion lover i must say that the lack of variety in clothes, especially for men is KILLING ME, every man in this show uses suits, shoulder pads and bowties, even if some characters looks good it make my blood BOIL no seeing other look more than this.
4) They rush the story to the point that they waste possible arcs for the characters (SIR PENTIOUS'S and ANGEL DUST path to redemption),they make the war to heaven the priority instead of the real premise of redeming sinners, they ignore it and not even make real attemps to let the audience know there is a real progress and the ways they use to "rehabilitate" are so childish that makes me cringe,if CHARLIE really wants to help them she should make REAL REHABILITATION PROGRAMS instead of kids excersises.
ANGEL DUST was a prick from day one,not only in the pilot but also in the series,he is a pos that DESERVES ALL THE BAD THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO HIM, and he was not only an addict to drugs and sex, he was a MOBSTER, HE KILLED PEOPLE FOR A LIVING AND HE SHOWED NO REMORSE, his sudden caring for the other cast feels so out of character and rushed that makes me ANGRY.
The redemption of Sir Pentious was so rushed that makes me feel NOTHING AT ALL because we dont see him get better, we dont see him chance and we dont even know how sacrificing himself redeem him, i dont know, maybe he was very selfish in life??? Its not that hard viv.
Now, what does this have to do with Nerdy Prudes Must Die? It's very simple, Nerdy Prudes Must Die takes several of Hazbin Hotel's flaws and makes it BETTER.
1) the humor is universally funny, it is not sold as something for adults because it has swear words or sexual jokes, it is not shown as something more mature or profound than it is, they know that it is not the eighth wonder of the world and they make the most of it doing comedy, improvisation and very funny situations.
Their songs, for example, are very fun and bring weight to the plot. Each song shows a perspective and the thoughts of the characters that cannot be expressed in words. Each musical number enters the minds of the protagonists, from the beginning to the end.
2)MAX, the villain of the story, is the nightmare of every teenager who has gone to high school, a bully who gets his way and makes everyone's lives impossible, and that makes him SCARY AS HELL.
When MAX enters the scene you can see the fear that everyone has of him, he feels intimidating and inspires fear and respect among others, everyone knows that if he is around there are SERIOUS problems and he acts like a true threat.
and MAX is deeper than he seems, unlike ADAM or VALENTINO you can notice that he has certain qualities that make him charismatic such as being naturally funny, appreciating when people do good things for him, having a genuine interest in GRACE CHASTITY and that his family life not being the best means that you can have even some affection for the character without leaving aside his actions against others.
All the characters represent the average 17 year old teenager and that makes them friendly, they show the reality that adolescence regardless of who you are has its problems especially in an environment like high school.
The protagonists are sympathetic, it's easy to get attached to them, I still haven't get over RICHIE'S death and his "im not a loser" because we saw that in fact he wasn't just a loser, he was a someone who, although he had his problems, was a good boy and he didn't deserve the ending he had(and his dead showed how sadistic Max could be).
Unlike Sir Pentious and Angel Dust we were able to see more of Richie, we were able to see that he was the one who felt the worst about what they did to Max, while the others are worried about going to prison he talks about how he feels about it (" i think im gonna throw up"/"oh my ashtma is back"), we can see that he wanted to be accepted as someone important on the team and when he finally feels valued Max kills him when he feels his kingdom crumble, in my opinion his "im not "a loser" is a way of giving himself confidence or courage to confront his bully from years ago but obviously it didn't work and he ended up dying in a horrible way, what makes it sadder is that he probably tried to run away from max and ended up in the bathroom because every victim of bullying knows that it can be a safe place (locking yourself in a cubicle until the bully leaves) but Max being a ghost didn't work:(
the characters are empathetic almost without wanting to, even MAX can be empathetic if you analyze enough.
3)there are more diversity here than any other series of vivziepop, i know is different because is a live musical with real people but they make sure that EVERY CHARACTER IS MEMORABLE, every character has his own quirks and clothing that makes them stand out.
We see variety of colors, races, faces and more! They make them iconic and easy to remember in all scenes, no character is left behind and they all are unique in clothes, personality and depth.
4)The story doesn't feel rushed, they take enough time to tell the story without making it too long or shortening it either, each arc is resolved in a way that goes well with the plot and doesn't feel forced.
My god, STEPH AND PETER have more chemistry than CHARLIE AND VAGGIE and they achieved it almost effortlessly. Their arc is not the best in the world, but I love their dynamics and chemistry more than CHARLIE and VAGGIE (and I like Chaggie in concept) and the story advances without the need to focus only on one character, everyone has their moment to shine and that fascinates me about this musical, each one is in the spotlight at the right and necessary moment.
In conclusion: Vivienne should learn from starkid, who were able to make a story that, although it begins superficially with a teenage drama, over time becomes deeper and talks about hard topics such as bullying, murder, death and the occult. way that we can feel connected with the characters and with the story in general, they give us a story with soul, something that unfortunately makes the hotel fail completely, it also helps me accept that I can like a series and still recognize its mistakes and see That others can get it right where Hazbin Hotel went wrong.
#hazbin hotel critical#nerdy prudes must die#nerdy prudes must die analysis#analysis#comparation#starkid npmd#starkid#npmd#npmd max#You must be a SHITTY writer for a teenager with a god complex to be a better villain than a THOUSAND YEAR OLD MAN

For unpaid babysitter, I have been chewing on an idea for a rumor that could end up making rounds in Heaven.
Relating to something mentioned in Queen of the Mountain, with the idea that Heaven sees lighter fur colors as more attractive/more "pure", coupled with the fact that the Land of Eternal Snow doesn't exist, and presumably no naturally white-furred monkey yaogai:
Yue's fur is white, because she is meant to be the princess/inherently more divine than her mortal realm born parents. This would also "explain" why she's so good at what she does, to the point of making noticeable improvement to Heaven in (correct me if I'm wrong) days of being there.
I know that Yue's explanation is the mirror had weird effects, so I think it would be kinda funny if this rumor was started by random people, catching her off guard.
(I also have other, sillier rumors, if you would like me to share them. I have been chewing on this fic so hard.)
Oh my god, that is so funny and big brained. I can’t believe it slipped my mind that no Land of Eternal Snow and no Zodiac Monkey Clan meant no white snow monkeys descended from the Zodiac. Yue’s white pelt would definitely be seen as a sign of purity and divinity by the Celestials.
Yue would insist on odd genetics/cursed mirror mumbo jumbo but the Celestial Realm is filled with people clinging onto old, antiquated beliefs about divine right and purity and whatnot so this rumor would be right up their alley.
Yue would have the biggest pikachu face once she hears about this particular rumor. It’s so ingrained in her head that “white” means plain, boring, and good for hiding in the snow to hide from or ambush your enemies that she’d be shocked that others see it as a mark of beauty and innocence.
Macaque would def fan that flames of that rumor since it paints Yue in a good light.
(Please share more! Not just you, but I invite anyone to add to the Celestial Rumor Mill pile!)

Star Wars Rebels Changed my Life
But before I tell you why, let me begin with my introduction (I rambled and did not edit, so please excuse any mistakes).
I was seventeen when Rebels aired (I know, I'm showing my age). At the time I was still riding off the Disappointment of Clone Wars being cancelled, and didn't know what I would think of this strange new show that was Totally Different.
I had read a fanfic in the Clone Wars section of Fanfiction.net about a week before it premiered. I will add to the tags later when I find it. But it was from someone who was so excited for Rebels and since, naturally, there was no fandom yet since it hadn't aired, posted it under clone wars. I, after reading it, was intrigued and decided to watch it premiere night.
It was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
By the time Kanan entered the cockpit, talking to Hera about picking up this kid, I was in love with the show. It was so different from Clone Wars, but in a good way. It tugged at my heart and made me laugh. From that day on, I was a fan. I cried when Kanan died, I jumped for joy when Ahsoka descended the ladder (she is still my favorite character of all time).
This little animated show got me through college, when I was still trying to find my identity outside of my family. It was there when I started my very first relationship (who I am happily married to now). It kept me sane on the worst nights, crying when my roommate and her friend broke my heart.
And it's biggest impact on my life? Well, in a strange turn of events, Rebels is one reason I have an English degree.
When I started college, after years of reading fanfiction, I began to write my own. This is important because, when I was young, my dad destroyed any sense of writing fiction.I'm from Appalachia and he disapproved of my fantasy stories, believing my only works should pertain to my culture. Eventually I gave up, and put down every story I had poured my heart into, because I believed that he was right.
When Rebels came along, I was inspired by the community to write. Under the penname PentoPapergal18, I went into college writing a little piece called Silent, yet Heard, where Ezra is mute. It is a rough piece and clearly showed my years of inexperience, but the community was amazing, supporting me. I carried the first draft in a purple binder, writing it out by hand before typing it up.
My professor noticed I was writing in my notebook before her class started and encouraged me to look into an English degree. Because of her, I ended up accepting it as my second major.
Now, I have two self-published pieces, and started a local writers group. I am working on the novel my dad discouraged all those years ago, and plan on attempting traditional publishing. Rebels fanfiction gave me the confidence to work toward my dream again.
(also, I have two dogs named Zeb and Vader. So yeah)
Thank you, Rebels, for giving me comfort on the hard nights. For giving a community that sparked my dream again. For giving me characters that live in my heart forever.
Time and time again I return to your galaxy. Each visit an open hug and a greeting from an old friend. I can never repay you for your impact on my life.
Thank you, Ghost Crew. May the force be with you.

Wanted to give a HUGE thank you to the queen herself, the myth, the legend... throwing-in-the-towel/ mstowel!!! @mstowel
In May, I learned that a musical based on The Outsiders had opened on Broadway. Seeing as it has been my favorite book for 13+ years and musicals are one of my favorite things in the world, I thought I would be excited, but I was reluctant to get into it/ learn more about it. I didn't see how they could pull off a musical adaptation that did this beautiful story justice. But I looked at the social media and listened to the songs that had been released and was quickly very invested. Still, I had so many questions about the show and there wasn't a lot of information out there. That brought me to this lovely gal here! She answered my MANY questions about the show in great detail and had fantastic insight into the characters (like me, became the biggest Darry/ Brent Comer supporter due to the new life breathed into the character and sharing my feelings about him becoming such a sympathetic/ likeable character as perspectives change with age) and all aspects of the show. Thanks to this, I became a fan, then, per usual, rapidly descended into hyperfixation and found the script/ started collecting audios. I credit her with resparking my love for this story/ fandom and prompting me to begin writing stories again- including revisiting and beginning to rewrite my popular fanfiction story that I abandoned unfinished 12 years ago!
She shared many audios with me and continued to answer my questions. It was a pleasure to watch her blog grow from the beginning and am incredibly grateful for the space she created- a fun, drama-free environment for people to respectfully share opinions and information about the show. She promoted proper stage door etiquette and how to respect Broadway performer's private lives/ boundaries while still being a supportive fan, as well as the importance of showing support for understudies/ swings. I have not seen one negative comment/ interaction from her and she has been extremely dedicated to devoting lots of time to share her knowledge with us.
mstowel, I'm sorry that some negative interactions contributed to closing the blog, but 100% support and respect your decision! Also would like everyone to note that this was not the sole reason- she understandably was devoting a lot of time to this blog and it was starting to feel like a chore/ not enjoyable, so please to not guilt/ pressure her into feeling like she is letting us down/ owes us anything- it's so important to prioritize yourself and I want her to be able to enjoy the shows with no strings attached. Thank you for everything and best of luck in all your endeavors!!! <3

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series - On Luke and Annabeth:
Okay, so Luke and Annabeth's relationship is sooo important to me in the og pjo books. Like, second only to Percabeth.
Idk, I'm a sucker for found family, and I wish I could find the post that compared Annabeth's perspective of the relationship to watching an older sibling descend into drug addiction and losing themselves (maybe it hits because I've lost an older sibling).
I was really hoping the Disney+ adaptation would expand more on this relationship, since we're not so limited to just Percy's POV anymore.
In all honesty, i don't think they did a great job of that in season 1. There was wayyy too much tell not show i.e. "she's my little sister", "Annabeth is the strongest warrior in camp". It felt like Luke and Annabeth's backstory was just something they were trying to rush out of the way before they moved on to what they thought was more important (The quest, percabeth, an unnecessary number of god introductions, etc.).
And we barely saw them spend any one-on-one time with each other. Which extra sucks, cuz season 1 is the only time we would have seen their relationship before Luke's turn.
Season 2 needs to compensate me with aloootttt of Luke/Thalia/Annabeth flashbacks. And no worries, because with the level of over-correcting RR is subjecting this series to (some good and some not), I can GUARANTEE that any icky, groomer-esque, "did you ever love me?" elements of their relationship will definitely NOT be a part of this adaptation.
I am still holding out hope that they take the (non-racist) criticisms of the first season and develop the character relationships much better for the remainder of the series, because this show truly hit the jackpot with casting.
Seriously, Leah and Charlie's friendship is so precious to me. He's been one of her biggest supporters in response to all the BS that's been thrown at her (always posting about her awards, encouraging his fans to vote for her, joining her IG lives and cheering her on). And it's also super ironic, seeing as Luke was also a blonde main character that is being played by a dark-haired POC, yet with none of the same backlash (interesting 🤔).
Someone on tiktok described their irl dynamic as what Luke and Annabeth should have been, and just:
(@/hrtz_4finnick on TikTok)

Waterfall
Based on this Anon ask: I'm not the biggest fan of modern aus but i cant stop thinking about showering with aemond, watching the water cascade from his hair to his neck, his torso and then lower. I think he'd love a good piping hot shower while i just stand there, thoughts of getting clean thrown out of the window (theres also a thought of getting railed from behind while under the shower but its too early for this 😂)
With some encouragement I decided to turn this into a fic under a waterfall, enemies to lovers vibe like my other fic, Captured.
And since all my fics are getting flagged for community guidelines whether they need it or not I've decided to earn it this time with some smut so 18+ only pls
Aemond x fem!reader | making love under a waterfall
"Aemond, please, let's stop!" You called ahead; your hands bound with heavy rope in front of you were beginning to ache in earnest. "It's hot." You muttered as an aside to yourself, wishing you could shed a couple layers.
Up ahead, Aemond paused, turning slightly towards you but not meeting your gaze.
He hadn't looked at you directly since taking you prisoner.
You heard him curse you under his breath.
"You kiss your mother with that mouth?" You snarked as he stomped back to where you waited.
That got a reaction, Aemond's fiery lilac eye caught you and you found yourself wishing he'd look away. Aemond yanked at your bonds, causing you to stumble forward. Your foot caught a tree root and you fell forward, hard, against the Targaryen's chest.
"Get up." Aemond hissed in your ear, supporting you by your elbows and helping you regain your footing.
"You really have turned into quite an ass since last we met." You grouched, watching as he pulled unsheathed his dagger. "Is that a dagger, or are you just happy to see me?"
"If you don't stop your inane quips, I will show you how much of a dagger this is."
"Tetchy."
With a fluid movement Aemond had cut through the rope that bound your hands and you were free. For a clear second of insanity, you thought of trying to run. You settled for rubbing your sore wrists and glowering at the prince. "Tell me again why you couldn't just whisk me back to King's Landing on a dragon."
"Too high profile." Aemond answered, stowing his knife and beginning to scan the area for a place to set up camp. Of course, you had been designated pack carrier. "Mother wants you back alive and...unspoiled."
"Ah, so you're still a mommy's boy." You slipped the heavy pack off your shoulders, letting it fall heavily to the earthen floor.
Aemond considered you for a moment, before tilting his head, smiling slightly. "Yes."
"I guess that should be a relief." You muttered, rolling your shoulders. "Well!" You clapped your numb hands together. "I'm off!"
With that, you turned on your heel and began descending the forested hill toward the enticing river you could hear rushing nearby.
A firm hand grasped your elbow, halting your progress. "Just where are you thinking of escaping to?"
You turned back to Aemond, trying your best to maintain the debonair mask of indifferent confidence. "Hear that river?" You cupped a hand around your ear for emphasis. "I'm going to take a bath."
"You've no soap." Aemond looked you over dubiously, making you feel self-conscious despite yourself.
"You royals and your luxuries." You sniffed disdainfully. "I'm sure I'll manage."
"How will I know you aren't running away?" Aemond shook his silver head. "No, you're not going anywhere I can't see you."
"You're welcome to join me." You looked at him seductively through your lashes, the effect quite ruined by your state of current filth. "Aemond please. I smell like a barn set afire." You lifted your arms, shuffling toward him. "Give me a hug."
Aemond back away hastily, holding up his hands to fend you off, a begrudging smile curving his lips. "No no! Alright, go clean yourself. Take no longer than strictly necessary or I will come find you."
"Promises, promises!" You were already skipping down toward the river, giggling at the prospect of submerging your hot sticky body in cool water. You even tricked yourself into thinking you heard Aemond laughing behind you.
It was even better than you had anticipated.
A small pool surrounded by rocks and trees lay glistening sapphire beneath the afternoon sun, fed by a small waterfall. You quickly shed your clothes before wading into the cool waters. It was as though this little pool had been crafted by the gods specifically for you. You swam over to the other side of it, flipping onto your back, letting the silken water soak through your dirty hair.
The perfect plants for creating a sudsy lather from their crushed leaves were growing all around the river. You were quick to take full advantage of them, cleaning your grimy skin and sighing in relief.
Time passed, you had cleaned your body as well as your clothes and laid them out on the rocks to dry. You could see smoke curling above the trees from where Aemond must've set up camp. Smiling to yourself you swam laps around the edge of the pool, cupping your hands beneath the waterfall and running them through your hair.
"Y/N!"
"Shit, Aemond!" You didn't bother to hide your naked torso in the water, looking at him over your shoulder. "Oh dear, are you alright? You're turning an alarming shade of red."
"Enough games, Y/N." He crossed his arms, eye focused on your face. "I told you I would come retrieve you if you took too long."
"It's almost as if you don't trust me."
"I don't."
"Oh come on, Aemond." You grumbled, turning your body fully to face him, the water lapping around your waist.
Aemond couldn't help but glance down, passing a hand over his face and swearing lightly.
"You must be hot and dirty as well. Come on in, this river is big enough for the two of us." You waded fully back into the water, Aemond watched you move with an odd expression on his face. "You can trust me. We were childhood friends after all."
"You've changed." His tone made your cheeks flush. "Fine." Aemond began shedding his own clothing, seemingly not caring if you watched him undress.
"Splendid!" You gathered more fronds of the soap substitute you'd created. "There are plants here that I've crushed up to create a soap-like substance. We can wash your clo-"
In your distraction you hadn't noticed Aemond, devoid of any articles of clothing, wading over to the waterfall. He had already created a lather from the same plants you had used and was vigorously washing his long sleek hair beneath the cascading water.
"Well that's completely unfair." You spoke to yourself, your eyes roaming along the planes of his body.
He was lean, not broad and muscular like the men at the farm you worked at. The planes of his torso were defined, and you enjoyed watching the rivulets of water run down his pale skin.
"Suddenly shy?"
Your eyes flicked guiltily back up to his angular face. He had shed his eyepatch; a glittering blue gemstone lay within where his right eye used to be. You had left King's Landing before that had happened to him.
You moved through the water towards him, his hands stilled in his hair as he watched you approach. You noticed his plush lips part slightly, his lilac eye dilating slightly as he took in the sight of you walking slowly out of the water.
You were close enough to touch him now. Your fingers sought his face first. Aemond's eye fluttered closed as you traced his jaw, he caught your wrist before you could caress the vertical scar that ran over his eye. "Don't."
"Aemond." You said softly, your brow furrowing as you gazed at each other. You watched a droplet of sparkling water run down the sapphire gem, catching on his face like a tear. "Please." You breathed, not quite sure what it was you were asking for. Forgiveness? Acceptance?
"Why did you leave?" His voice was low, yet it cut through you like a knife. "I need to know."
"My family didn't want me to be Helaena's handmaiden. They pulled me away, and I didn't have a choice but to obey."
"You could've fought them."
"I was a child, Aemond. You know that's not true."
"Hmm."
Silence fell between the two of you, the rushing water splashing against your skin the only sound. Aemond's grip on your wrist loosened enough for you to cup his face once more. He hesitated, on the brink of something, before turning his head and placing a kiss to your palm. Your breath caught. "Kiss me."
He regarded you, his eye gleaming. You stepped closer, closing the remaining distance and pressing your chest to his, letting him feel your skin against his. You tilted your head up invitingly, your lips inches apart.
Droplets of water caught the sunlight, glimmering as they fell off Aemond's face. He bent into you, time seemed to slow, a rushing sound not at all to do with water filled your ears. You felt his soft lips press against your parted mouth. Your groans of relief vibrated into each other as Aemond wrapped his arm around your lower back, pulling your further against his body. You giggled, feeling the smooth skin of his back, trailing your hands up to tangle in his hair, pulling slightly on the soaked locks, eliciting a moan of pleasure from the prince.
"What have you done to me?" Aemond murmured, nibbling your bottom lip and along your jaw.
"Not one day has gone by I haven't thought of you." You arched your neck as he began sucking bruises to your throat.
He spun you around, pressing up behind you, his arousal evident against the curve of your ass. Water dripped onto your back, running in tickling rivulets down your sensitive skin. Your palms lay flat against the stone wall as Aemond bowed you beneath him, kissing a trail down your neck to your shoulders.
You felt his long fingers running up your legs, you widened your stance, parting your thighs for him.
"So eager." He purred, biting your shoulder gently. "You've been anticipating this for a while now, haven't you?"
Words escaped you as Aemond's fingers found your slippery quim, dipping into the nectar that was leaking from you, dragging a mewl from your mouth. You rocked your hips back into his touch, needing more of him.
"Patience, my flower." Aemond's mouth had found your ear, you turned your face into him, your hooded eyes focused on his lips. "I intend on savoring every inch of you, having you come undone around me until your legs can no longer hold your weight."
Aemond made more than good on that promise, the sound of the waterfall swallowing up your cries of pleasure as Aemond claimed you beneath its waters.
Your fingers were sore from where they had gripped the stone, in fact every muscle was aching in the most pleasant way possible. You felt lightheaded even now as you lay bundled in blankets next to the sparking fire, your head resting on Aemond's chest, his arms circled low around you, his dry hair falling over your throat in a silvery sheen.
You felt his fingers combing through your own hair, leaning into his relaxing touch, allowing your eyes to close as the firelight played warmly across your face. Your clothes were drying near the flames, Aemond's touch beneath the blanket moved to cup the swell of your breast tenderly. Beneath your head you could feel his breathing deepen, his fingers in your hair faltering and stilling.
You didn't know what the morning would bring, not wanting to think beyond this magic moment. When you and Aemond were two lovers alone in the forest, just the two of you. No politics, no jaded history, no dragons or kings.
Just a man and a woman who had always loved each other.

I watched Descendants: Rise of Red. I like the characters a lot, especially Red. I think she's my favourite out of everyone.
I'm not the biggest fan of the costumes. I can look over the wigs because I never paid much attention to hair before. Though I do miss D1 when everyone in Auradon had natural hair colours while those on the Isle didn't. But anyhoo, not gonna talk about that!
We're talking about the clothes. I think there's only one outfit I genuinely loved and that was Teen Ella's outfit from "Get Your Hands Dirty" and then i also liked some of the VKs. I think my problem is with the colours. Like I get that every character always had a "colour" but with especially Red and Chloe, it feels like they really only got like various shades of one colour.
I wish the black was a bit more prominent on Red and Chloe got more colours besides blue and small pieces of gold. Like white maybe?
I still fucking HAAAAATE Descendants' world building with a passion. Hate that they all went to high school together. (I still got that lore rewrite from forever ago that I never finished and thats better than this!!!)
All-in-all, D4 is exactly what I thought it was gonna be minus the false(?) Ending, didn't see that coming. The characters definitely saved it from being completely dogshit tho.
Cuz we're flying high together on a magic carpet ride.... Each sold separately- batteries not included-~

Mean anons know where the door is :/
So excited to know there'll be more kinich coming from you! As I'm —way rapidly thought I will— descending into a kinich obsession, It's clear that yours truly is my favorite characterization of him. I don't know how you manage to capture his cold attitude and the way he's at the same time so incredibly caring. He just hits all the right spots. I've reread your fic a second time and is just, perfection. I think I can ramble about it all day lmao
Do you have any Kinich HC you're willing to share?
—🌻
Awwww anon you’re going to inflate my ego way too much!! 😆 I’m incredibly happy to know that you enjoy my depiction of Kinich! Receiving kind comments from people like you just makes me so ridiculously happy!!
Regarding headcanons, I honestly have too many to count! So here are some listed under the cut! NSFT + Spoilers for Kinich’s character stories!
For general headcanons, I think it’s funny if Kinich genuinely didn’t like Grainfruit. He can eat it if needed, as he’s not one to waste food, but he prefers not to. So whenever he goes out with Mualani and Kachina he’s pawning off his Grainfruit to Kachina, since it seems Mualani doesn’t like vegetables.
Imagine being like, twelve, and your two adult friends are just dumping their not-corn on you HAHAHAHA Mualani’s going to make a bunch of excuses like “It’ll help you grow up Kachina!!!” While Kinich just flatly says “I don’t want it.”
While Kinich is not one for initiating affection, I do think Elder Leik is an exception to that rule! Kinich is surprisingly affectionate with the elder and would crash at said elder’s house whenever he’s in the area!
Before he leaves, he’ll make sure to give Leik a hug and kiss first! He does it all with his trademark poker face, but the love is evident!! On a side note, Genshin Wiki please make a page for the dad that stepped up already! (Yes, Elder Leik is his dad now. No I do not accept criticism. His birth dad can rot at the bottom of the cliff he died in)
Wholesomeness aside, onto the raunchier stuff!
Did Kinich fuck half the male population in the tribe? At this point, probably yes. Leik’s fully aware of his son’s habits and is just shaking his head. But oh well, as long as Kinich is happy and safe! (The former? Definitely. The latter? Eeeeh…)
The tribe’s general relationship with him is so complicated it’s hilarious. When it comes to wanting to fuck Kinich’s brains out, there’s three camps.
Camp One is where our dear nameless warriors from ‘More’ falls in. They’re the ones who find Kinich’s frigidity endearing. They love his cool demeanour and want nothing more than to watch it fall apart! They’re the rare Kinich fans who love him for who he is!
Kinich’s probably conflicted about Group One. They’re acquaintances at best, since he wouldn’t consider any of them to be his friends despite sleeping with them, and he finds their enthusiasm for him pretty surprising. He’s super flattered though! So he’s not sure whether he should accept their love or not…
Meanwhile, Camp Two is the biggest and also the funniest. It’s the ‘I hate him so much I want to absolutely humiliate him with my dick’ gang. It contains all those who guiltily/angrily masturbate to the thought of ruining him every night. They’re the ones who scoff and criticise Kinich yet immediately jump at the opportunity to fuck his brains out.
Sex is more of a power thing with them. Kinich finds these guys the most fun, since they’re usually the roughest and are out to brutalise him. Except he hasn’t found anyone who was actually successful in ruining him yet HAHAHA
Camp Three is the most mature in which they acknowledge both his shortcomings and strengths. Sex happens to fall in the latter category, so why not indulge in it? It’s the group that even if they don’t like him, they’ll leave their gripes out of bed. Kinich finds them the most boring, but also the most respectable!
I don’t think Kinich would have any particular kinks aside from ROUGH ROUGH ROUGH. If anything, he enjoys them all! So long as his partner(s) can leave him feeling like he got run over by a Long-Necked Rhino, he’s fine with anything. Rope? Sure! Whips? Sure! Group stuff? Sure! All in all, Kinich’s just a delight to be with. Poker faced slut who’s also super wholesome at the same time!!
How long he stays after the deed itself depends on his partner(s) performance(s). If the man sucks, he has no qualms running off immediately after he blows his load. If Kinich happens to encounter some sex guru, however, he’s staying and cuddling him till morning! That’s an easy way to gauge how one performed, I guess?
Anyways, thank you so much for the ask! I had a blast writing these!!

Imagine reader getting an anemo vision after they come to Teyvat
(Why anemo bc I read that "anemo vision is given to the people who seeks freedom" or something like that if you have free time pls write how they would react to such news.)
(And I deeply apologize if you don't take requests, you don't have to do mine! Have a great day!)
As much as I'd love to give our Y/N (from Insatiable Madness) a vision, it just wouldn't make logical sense according to the lore.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure one of the requirements to getting a vision is being in Irminsul. (And being recognised by Celestia)
Y/N is from the real world, coming to Teyvat would make them a Descender like the traveller.
It's quite funny you mention this actually, since I was thinking about how the story is going to progress into Teyvat. (Yes, it's official, the sequel will take place in Teyvat... If I get to writing it that is)
^ I did think about giving Y/N an anemo vision considering that yes, their desire for freedom away from the Harbingers would count. Buuuut, then I read the known and theorised lore about vision-giving and realised there isn't enough evidence to prove it could be possible.
Plus, considering the fact that Y/N doesn't want to be tied to Teyvat, they'd probably reject the vision very strongly since that would insert them into Irminsul. (Just like how the travellers sibling became apart of Irminsul when they helped the construction of Khaenri'ah.)
Ignoring all the lore, Y/N would definitely be an anemo catalyst because of their self-defence capabilities. I remember talking about this in an ask before, I decided on aikido since Y/N isn't the biggest fan of violence.
And yes, Childe wouldn't be able to stop himself from asking for a spar if they got a vision since it would reflect to him as an 'Oh, they must be strong if they're recognised by the gods and have a vision'
Thank you for requesting this <3

Hello everyone, I'm making this huge post because I'm hyperfixated on what's going down in the Ever After High fandom right now, and I need to type all my thoughts out. So, get your tinfoil hats ready folks, because it's speculation and theorizing time.
DISCLAIMER: this is all just speculation and/or incoherent rambling. I'm putting it under the cut because... it's a little long lol (if you see any grammatical and/or spelling errors ...no you don't)
Earlier today, January 5th (or January 4th, depending on your timezone) Mattel released a "new" song for Ever After High, "Can't Get Me Down" (you'll see why I put new in quotation marks in a bit). Reaction to the song itself was... mixed, with some really liking it, some not liking it, and some being more neutral. The reason why this sent the fandom into a frenzy is because, obviously, this is our first real content from the actual source since the series ended in 2018.
Tin foil hat time, I don't think this song is "new" at all. I'm speculating that this song was in the Mattel's equivalent of The Vault for a long time, which could explain a lot about why it sounds janky and almost ai. Also, I saw some people saying it reminded them of Taylor Swift, and we know, canonically, Taylor Swift exists the EAH universe as Tailor Quick, and Raven is a fan of her. Adding on the fact that Raven is used as the cover for this song, I suspect she would've sung this either in a webisode, or more likely a special, but it got cut for whatever reason.
Here we get to my biggest point: why now? Why would Mattel, with no promotion beforehand, just drop this out of the blue? I saw someone suggest it was a mistake, and I saw someone else suggest that this was leaked by some employee, but I don't think either of those are the case- if they were, it likely would've been taken down already.
I shared this theory through an ask, but I'll reiterate it here: My theory is Mattel is using this as a tactic see how people would respond to the idea of EAH making a comeback.
I think EAH making a comeback now kind of makes sense- look at what happened during it's downfall; iirc doll sales were low, but also, Disney had created Descendants. This is a bit more into conspiracy theory territory, but from what I've heard discussed, many think Disney's creation of Descendants was the nail in the coffin for EAH. It's also common knowledge that Disney is extremely territorial about fairytales, and especially when it comes to princesses, so them making Descendants to assure EAH's decline... checks out. With Disney not doing well now, Mattel could be trying to take advantage of that. But that's just my theory, I could be totally wrong and Mattel could be doing this for some other completely random reason.
There was also some other stuff about trademarks, but I'm not good with that kind of stuff, so you can read more about that here.
TL;DR: this situation is very *exaggerated and vague hand waving in air* as you can tell by this post, so while we can continue speculating and/or doing our own digging, I think it'd be best to keep an eye out to see if Mattel releases any more songs, or even any announcements/statements.
If I forgot anything or explained this poorly, I apologize!! Please let me know if I did either and I will try and correct that!!

My thoughts on Descendants: Rise of Red. There will be spoilers but anyone who cares about spoilers has already watched it ( the die hard descendants fans).
Right off the bat, my overall impression of D4 is that it was better than I feared but not as good as the original trilogy. The music was extremely fun, and I've been listening to the songs on repeat ever since. Initially I found them to be cringy but they've grown on me, especially Red's intro song.
Red was a super fun main character and I loved her sass. She was not set up as a true VK (she was never evil), and so it made her arc to a "good girl" less convincing. However, I think arc was more about her self perception than a change in actual behavior l, unlike D1.
I enjoyed the dynamic between red and Chloe but it needed more time to develop. Honestly that was my biggest problem with the film overall: it needed more time. Which is weird because it's the same length as the others and they weren't cramming it full? I felt the ending was too abrupt and neat, and I'm hoping it's setting up for a sequel. I wish there was more time for conflict and bonding with red and Chloe, although I get that their relationships with their moms were the focus.
Which brings me to Queen of Hearts/Bridget and Cinderella. I was SO happy to see brandy and Paolo back, they are as dreamy as ever. Rita Ora was a delight and the actress who played young Bridget was adorable. My feelings about young Cinderella were more mixed and I think that's due to my love of the brandy Cinderella movie. It's impossible to watch D4 and not compare it the 1997 film, which makes me wonder what the logic was behind the weird changes. I very much enjoyed the dynamic between Chloe and Cinderella, but young Cinderella felt so odd to me, especially since we never saw the dance. And young charming.... He lacked the dreaminess of Paolo. I'm really hoping there will be a D5 to explore all this more.
I was so happy to see uma again, I love her so fucking much. Uliana made an odd villain choice: she had style but was so similar to uma. I think it would've made more sense to have maleficent be the main villain, which would've been a callback to D1. Although, again, uliana had hella style and the song "revenge" was such a banger I can't really complain. Hook was a straight up disappointment after Harry hook (I wish they had been able to get Thomas Dougherty back 😭). And I miss gil, what a sweetie. The other villains were fun, I want more morgie!
On the whole, D4 only disappointed in how abrupt the ending felt, which I hope will make sense in hindsight with D5. There has been no confirmation from Disney about another installment but it seems to be doing well so im hopeful!

i like to make jokes about it but i'm ngl i'm not the biggest fan of human!mc being royalty. elf!mc being a descendant of one of the elf houses and orc!mc part of a rebelling clan is fine and makes sense to me but human!mc being royalty? not a fan. chosen one narratives where said chosen one is descended from the noble class are so overdone especially in the fantasy genre. sometimes the hero doesnt have to be someone all that special. sometimes they can just be no one from fuckasstown. but maybe thats just my hatred for monarchy talking.
#like.. do they HAVE to be descended from some special bloodline. its so boring. so essentialist.#playchoices#blades of light and shadow
