Seonghwa, and Yunho. Two men of prestige who, after many years of great dedication and effort, have managed to make their way to the top, achieving their well-deserved place among the big guns of Sector 1.

The first one, Seonghwa, is a renowned notary with highly enviable capacities for creating and writing legal texts, standing out among the rest for his abysmal knowledge in the legal field, which gives him the title of best judicial advisor. And the second one, Yunho, is an eminence prosecutor with the largest number of cases won in the entire territory and almost no defeats in his history as a professional; just seeing his name as the prosecutor of the case makes the opposing party tremble, victory was never an option for them from the moment that case was awarded to him.

But not only are they two men with a fairly comfortable life, they also have a unique attractiveness that makes them stand out and be above the rest of male human beings.

In the case of Seonghwa, he has been blessed with those beautiful but lethal bright eyes capable of giving him the most tender and innocent appearance in the world at the same time as the most dangerous and intimidating ever seen; those tempting lips that invite anyone to fall into the deepest abyss of sin if it means that they will have an opportunity to try them even just once; that perfect and well-kept hair with length just below his jaw that just combing it back with his hand is enough to make many faint; and that toned and well-worked body to which those luxurious tight designer suits do their due justice.

And then comes Yunho, a six-foot-six man with a penetrating gaze capable of charming people or putting them in their place depending on how innocent or intimidating he looks at them; that angelic smile that has earned him the attention and trust of everyone to whom he has dedicated it by giving him that respectable, good boy appearance with which he's known; a body so well worked that even the phrase 'sculpted by the gods' gets short; and those blessed large, slightly veined hands that no one can resist holding or shaking when he extends them to them.

Those men have conquered the hearts of almost every human being they have come across with just their appearance. Because not only do they have a spectacular physique but they also have a very attractive personality.

Both men known for their distinguished chivalry, always treating everyone with respect, shining with that sophisticated and elegant friendliness that sometimes brings with it that charismatic and fun crazy side which takes everyone's attention on them, with a touching sensitivity not very familiar in men of their social status and which makes them even more striking in front of the rest.

For sure, both men are the embodiment of perfection.

And what unites them? Their wife. Yes, they are both married to the same woman, Y/N, a lovely and charming writer dedicated in body and soul to them and with which they are both very much in love, so much so that sometimes it borders on madness. Their innocent and sweet wife is so perfect that every person is tempted to grope her, or that's what they see every time Y/N interacts with a man who isn't them.

It turns out that both Yunho and Seonghwa have that not-so-small problem of being very jealous, even over the smallest things.

The simple fact that the girl gives someone else one of those beautiful smiles of which they are legitimate owners boils their blood but they have to stay calm outside, giving her broad smiles and threatening looks filled with the bitter reminder of what will come later once they get to put their hands on her.

It's when the three of them are finally alone in the warm comfort of their house when Y/N has to worry because if both males have to sin in anything it's in being victims of that overwhelming possessiveness blinded by their unhealthy taste for dominance and stained with the dark tints of sadism.

Seonghwa is usually the one who starts with slow and intimidating steps that have Y/N trembling with excitement for the promise of a good night of hard animalistic sex etched in that sharp look he's giving her; her sentence signed the moment she can feel Yunho behind her, chest against back and broad hands holding her by the waist firmly against him not wanting to give the slightest chance for Y/N to decide to run away.

It's always entertaining to chase her around the house, going through room after room with subtle slowness, feigning ignorance to give it more excitement, but not when they are jealous. The desire to leave their marks over and over again on both her body and mind clouds their reason, the overwhelming urge to claim her as theirs again taking control over them as if they were puppets.

Nothing in Seonghwa and Yunho's minds but the suffocating need to reaffirm to that twisted toxic part of them that she belongs to them. Only theirs forever.

"Did you have a good time with San tonight, darling?" Seonghwa said without taking his eyes off the pink translucent liquid filling the glass cup with elegance, something as simple as the relaxing sound of the liquid falling adds a more intriguing tint to those words spoken with the utmost tranquility.

The fact that Seonghwa poured himself a drink only added more excitement to what was to come, because it may seem weird but with a glass in hand Seonghwa looks much different. That shiny piece of glass as a complement when the eldest of her husbands is noticeably annoyed gives his appearance a sophisticated, more intimidating touch that leaves her core dripping in excess.

Y/N didn't have time to answer him when Yunho's hands were already on her waist, indirectly imprisoning her with his grip "What he was telling you was so interesting that you even let him get this close to you, princess?" His lips gently brushed against the sensitive skin of her ear, making her moan involuntarily at the slight friction “His lips so close to your ear, I really hope he hasn't made your heart beat that fast too”.

One of Yunho's lethal charms is that deep voice a few octaves lower than the one he usually uses, with that tone he can make anything sound irresistibly hot. What an unfortunate moment for Y/N that her husband uses such an auditory delight as accomplice for his sick toxicity, taking advantage of his wife's voice kink to manage to make the girl forget the multiple amount of twisted consequences that those words can entail and also encourage her to submit completely to his will, something she does more than gladly.

"Don't blaspheme about our precious angel, Yunho" Seonghwa's serious voice resonated loudly in the room, the wooden floor creaking with every step he took "Of course she would never give another man those reactions" His free hand reaching up to cup her cheek, his thumb gently caressing the soft, flushed skin "because if she does I'll personally take care of leaving her so devastated in bed for the brutal and merciless way in which I'll use her pussy day and night that she will never be able to set a foot outside this house on her own again".

With the heavy gazes of both her husbands on her, the electrifying touch of Yunho's fingers as they softly brush against her skin on their slow, shameless path towards her chest and that subtle demand of Seonghwa for her to open her mouth for him by pressing his thumb against her lips with the clear intention of making her suck it, Y/N is already prey to that burning desire to be completely at their mercy to satisfy them in the most twisted and depraved ways known.

"Of course not" Her words were not very clear thanks to that finger that Seonghwa has no intention of removing from her mouth yet but they both caught the message perfectly which drew that satisfied smile on their faces "Good girl" and that was when he stuck out his thumb from her mouth to give her a feral passionately kiss, forcing his long, lithe tongue deep into her throat while Yunho kept himself happily busy leaving the pitifully short-lived marks of his love for her all over Y/N's neck.

"And as the good girl you are you'll let us give you a little reminder of who you belong to, right?" His hot breath tickled her as it hit her sensitive skin in that velvety whisper.

If she could talk she would moan a shameless 'yes' but the eldest of her husbands was so engrossed in eating her mouth that she couldn't even nod, so Y/N chose to rub her soft, fleshy ass against his growing erection in response, earning that deep growl from the youngest one of her husbands "Then let's get you ready to take both our cocks in your tight little pussy at the same time, my love. Hi there! I have a bit of a strange request for you, if that's okay. I'm currently in the process of planning/writing a longer Star Fox fic that prominently features Panther, and by extension, the FoxPanth ship, and I was wondering if you could give any pointers on writing Panther and/or him and Fox together?

This isn't strange at all! I'm even delighted, like, someone asking me about a pairing that I originally thought almost no one else would enjoy, and so they can write it too? It's like a dream, my gosh!

Give me one more second, like, I'm so amazed that this happened with my rare pair for Fox/Panther. FOXPAN! Of all pairs, I'm thrilled!

Ok, ok! Let's see what advice I can scrounge up for you.

A lot of people are under the impression that Panther is a pretty clear cut character in one regard or the other, but he actually offers a lot of flexibility to write about. That's probably why I gravitate to using him so often for Star Fox content.

Writing him playing off of Fox has a surprisingly enjoyable kind of chemistry, but it depends on what you go for with them. Coming to me means that you're in for the shipping, so, that I can help with!

Kind of prefacing that a bit because I know this is going under a cut, which I'm adding in here. More below, of course! Also, it's going to be a lot longer than you're expecting, so...I'm hoping that helps!

~Panther's Background~

Ok, I'll start with Panther as a character, since understanding how you want to portray him is the first part to nail down right.

People kind of mistake Panther to be a flat villain and a basically a pervy flirt, nothing more needed to build his character. It's easy to write him off as such, given how little canon support the games give.

There are some very, very crucial elements that he's given with his appearances, however, and they tend to be overlooked.

First and foremost, a lot of folks like to lump Panther in as "just another Star Wolf crony," which is fair if you don't focus on him.

However! What's critical that too many people ignore is that, in Panther's debut appearance, that's a brand new Star Wolf too. With the story for Star Fox: Assault being what it was, Panther is part of the Star Wolf team that no longer operates as mere mercenaries for the main villain and the obvious rival team, but he's part of a team that becomes allies to Fox and friends by the endgame.

Anyone can take that any way they want, but Panther is basically part of the lightest and kindest, perhaps even the most fleshed out version of Star Wolf. So, people that gleefully like pairing Fox off with Wolf because he has those "hey pup" lines? They should very well like the roster from Assault, because that's the installment that gave the most credibility to Wolf even being capable of defecting.

There's a lot of ways that it could be explained, but notably, Panther is the new big member on the main roster. Sure, they could fill a seat with anyone, but look at who they chose: this lighthearted goofball that enjoys playing with his rivals as much as he does causing trouble. A far cry from the likes of Leon, Pigma, and Andrew, who were on the more ruthless side of Star Wolf.

Many like Panther to be along that side too, and depending on how you want to characterize him, that could work out.

My personal preference, however, is that Panther is part of the catalysts that helps Wolf defect from being fully evil.

He's less interested in hurting civilians and being some kind of hotshot assassin. There's no hard support that Panther's criminal record involves heavy war crimes and murder, and canon biographies about him state him to be an elusive criminal that troubled Cornerian army officials.

Rather, Panther is entertained by causing mischief and enjoys playing around. He's cunning, but in ways to further his goals and those of his allies, not to play as a pawn in another's schemes.

I like to create the background that Wolf and Leon got low and desperate when searching for new recruits, and after meeting up with Panther, they adopt similar traits from him, easing up on their rougher traits in favor of getting their work done.

Basically, I favor the idea that Panther helped make Wolf better. (Which is totally a fun basis for Wolf/Panther, something that I've wanted to write for a few years too, lol.)

~Characterizing Panther~

It really depends on what you're doing with writing him, because you can make him a criminal even still and have that work nicely. However, I tend to give him ways out of being locked into a shadier background, focusing on his lighter traits, and making him more of a "gentleman thief" type of character foremost.

(For reference, I made him that kind of a thief in my fanfic, "Your Thieving Heart," because I really enjoy the idea that Panther's a cat burglar, as opposed to...well, whatever other people prefer.)

If you're focusing on an action or adventure story, I'd recommend using his craftier traits to help him stand out. Panther likes to play head games, because he'll tease and taunt his opponents, baffling them silly until they're clueless to his true motives.

He's also a skillful shot; in Star Fox: Command, Panther is the only playable character that does not use a Lock system for his Wolfen, which means that he makes a single shot that pierces most opponents. And in Assault, he makes a good support to both Star Wolf, and later on, Star Fox, so he can coordinate well in dogfights and combat too.

A story that's geared less to fighting, such as a drama or a comedy, would focus more on Panther's playful traits. Obviously his flirting, which I'll get to in a moment, but also, tweak the way that his playful and cunning manifests.

His teasing can be used to hide other facets of his character (maybe he's actually hurting and lonely deep down) or otherwise his goals (maybe he wants to get flowers for a partner and jokes about missing a meeting to do so).

His smarts can be used to show a more analytic or thoughtful side to him; while Panther isn't the type that would be the smartest in the room, he's absolutely underestimated by everyone, and can get away with a lot of surprises as a result.

Character flaws are pretty simple. Panther can be arrogant, so he can go a little too far touting his prowess and skill, as well as take his joking a little overboard without realizing when to back down. Since he is a criminal, he definitely has a less than luster past, which can hold him back, depending on how you want to write his criminal history. Also, I tend to think of him as a type that comes across charismatic and social, but in reality wants something quieter.

That last bit has support from a profile description in Command, which states that while Panther proclaims himself to be a "ladies' cat," he actually is known to fall "totally and completely in love" with his partner.

So, where people tend to limit him to being confident and flirty, that's the short and simple version to Panther. The deeper way to flesh his character out is to make him a hopeless romantic type, who craves and wants to find someone special to help fulfill his life.

Because a large portion of Panther's character gets limited to flirting with Krystal in his two major appearances, he's not given time to really show off the depths of his feelings. (I think Command tried, but that story got botched in a few too many places.)

He's not a misogynistic type, if I remember correctly, because he doesn't make any crude comments to berate or belittle Krystal's character, but rather, makes strong efforts to prime up his character instead, doing his best to come across as enticing and viable to her as possible.

Panther is super desperate and longing for love, and he's not above trying whatever methods he can to get there.

~Shipping With...Fox!~

So, how does Fox come into play on that? It's pretty easy, since Fox is also a flexible character as virtue of being the main player controlled character for the franchise. In other words, you can project a lot onto Fox in manners however you might like.

There are specific traits to Fox that remain part of his core character, however. He's obviously a strong leader, leading the legendary Star Fox team. If we go by Star Fox 64's ending, he's pretty humble, given that he turns down joining military ranks (presumably greater glory) to keep his life in a freer style with his contract work. (This gets played up as the series goes along, though Fox was actually pretty cocky in Star Fox 64, and somewhat so in Star Fox: Adventures as well.)

Given how his personality matures by the time of Star Fox: Assault and whatever went on with Star Fox: Command, Fox is something of a type that does abide by rules and doing the greater good type of work, but still retains some of his "off the books" or "go it alone" type of work.

So, since he's a hero that dances close to more lawful work, though still manages to find ways to slide around for what his objectives desire, that does make him a mostly "no nonsense" type, though on the friendlier and nicer side, of course. Fox can be portrayed as pretty orderly, in other words, and doesn't favor causing more trouble than he can handle, even if he's not above it.

Does that sound like something of an inverse to Panther, who tends to get into trouble and be mischievous? I should hope so!

Because they have foiled personalities from one another, that gives Fox and Panther elements of "opposites attract," since Panther can be silly and troublesome, while Fox tries to be serious and respectful. Panther has a shadier history with the Cornerian Army and his past is riddled with mystery and lack of depth. Fox, meanwhile, has staunchly strong and heroic ties with the Cornerian Army, who rely and count on his efforts to help them out. Additionally, he has a fair amount of his background explored as well, especially so compared to the enigma that is Panther.

Going by how flustered Fox gets in Star Fox: Adventures, Assault, and Command, he's also a bit sloppier in the romance department. He's seen as a stammering type, and shier around those that show interest in him, namely how Krystal does in the former two installments. He ends up being too protective of her in the last game included for that group, and kicks her from the team thinking that it was the safer option, when it really did nothing to stop her.

Those that ship Fox with Falco can also write him in angles to being oblivious to love, since Falco tends to be a bit harsh with Fox, which many like to write as him being guarded with his true feelings. So, combined with the information above, Fox is something of a romantic novice or rather inept at it.

Panther, whether he's actually good at romance or just likes to think he is, still comes across as an opposite to Fox on that level too. Whereas Fox falters and hesitates in romantic matters, Panther boldly strides forward to do his best in a quest for love.

There are some tricks to helping Fox and Panther work even better than just playing off of their foil traits however.

For starters: Both can be portrayed as very lonely souls.

Fox is a character that lost his parents at a young age, with his mother being out of the picture in every game installment, and his father dead before he's even 18. That's rough stuff, at least in my book. So, I'd consider that Fox has some isolated sides to his character that not everyone knows about, and that he has a side that grieves for his loved ones, and a side that longs to find a way to be loved and cherished in some manner once more.

Huh, does that sound familiar again? Someone that desperately wants to find love to fill a void in his life?

Oh wait, that's literally part of Panther's core too!

See, both Fox and Panther are seekers of love. While Fox may not be as forward with his intentions, he cares deeply for his team, his allies, and his planet, if not the entire Lylat galaxy. While Panther may not have such grand showings for compassion, he'd be the type that would be impressed, if not charmed, by someone so compassionate and caring.

If you take the idea that Panther helped make Wolf and Leon better, then it's likely that he also has a good deal of compassion in him too, seeing the best in people that the rest of Corneria and Lylat write off as the worst out there. Finding the light in the darkness is a kind of hopeful trait that Fox would absolutely be drawn to, since he can struggle to do the same.

Of course, both Panther and Fox are also skilled pilots, so, they have at least that much in common. Fox's skills are something that have outright impressed Panther in canon, and he compliments Fox a few times in both Star Fox: Assault and Star Fox: Command, commending Fox as his personal rival. It's not hard at all to shift that from mere respect to a deeper admiration.

Both are also very loyal and willing to see their goals through to the end. Fox proves this repeatedly in the games, but Panther shows such qualities in his appearances too, sticking by Wolf's side in spite of the challenges they face, and committing to his goals until they either are toppled enough to stop him, or until they are fully realized in a capacity that satisfies Panther well enough.

Typically, I like to mix things between "opposites attract" and "like attracts likes," to balance them out. Both Fox and Panther want to not be lonely and fall in love, to share their lives with someone. They're both also types that would be lonely in a crowd, though none are likely to suspect so, since they both come across confident and social enough to prove otherwise. Fox may find Panther's slippery side somewhat alluring, since he follows a freedom that Fox may sometimes wish he had from his more uptight and legacied life. Panther, meanwhile, might find Fox's loyalty and noble traits very endearing, because that means he'd firmly stand beside anyone that he committed himself to, something that Panther absolutely wants.

Naturally, you can play around with how you might like to portray them, based on the choices you'd make with your story, but those are some elements that I noticed and liked to help build it up.

While a lot of it is fairly made up with loose ties to canon, that's kind of the point to many fanfics. And even still, there is enough canon support to characterize Panther and Fox in a way that could make them a harmonized duo, to the point of romantic involvement.

Phew! Even I didn't realize how much I'd have to write about them until I actually put it all down, lol.

Its been awhile since you've done any character analysis on Fallout New Vegas, but would you be willing to go into one for some of the minor characters? I'm actually curios of your opinion on Silus the captured centurion and his motivations.

I’m more than happy to, although this won’t be about Silus so much as it will be about the quest Silus Treatment. It’s one of my favorite quests in the game, since it does a great deal just with dialogue and some creative use with the engine to create an engaging quest that showcases some of the failures of the NCR and the Legion. Given that the central theme is about picking a faction, warts and all, having a quest that puts the two main faction of New Vegas on full display is an absolutely good idea. The game is too old for spoilers, but it’s a long analysis so I’ll put a cut in.

Silus Treatment starts off simple enough, going to Camp McCarran, in the old McCarran International Airport, now the regional command post of Colonel Hsu. McCarran is not in a great spot when you first get there; there are periodic Fiend attacks, tensions in Freeside are causing havoc for NCR civilians, the overstretched NCR supply lines are making it difficult even for their central point of operations, and there’s a strong possibility that they’ve been infiltrated. It’s all Colonel Hsu can do to keep order and function in the base. Perfect protagonist fodder, in other words, for a nice quest hub.

It’s a tough needle to thread in any RPG to build a quest hub where there’s stuff for a character to do. If everyone is incapable of solving even the most basic of problems, it gives a great deal of quests for the player to do but it makes the quest-givers look incompetent, especially if the quest-givers are supposed to be capable figures in their own right. Conversely, if the NPC’s are competent, then the quests would be solved and that would close out on content for the player. There’s plenty of ways to settle this, and the devs do an adequate job here. The war effort means prioritization, and Hsu is dealing with being torn from both angles. He can’t just hunt down the Fiends, because he needs to organize patrols and deal with NCR settlers in the area. He can’t just pacify Freeside because it will engender hostility with House and so he’s delaying the order from his butcher superiors like Moore to go in with fire and sword. He doesn’t have a solution to the Kings but he’s trying to find one, which as far as writing goes is a good solution. Hsu is a decent man but overworked. He’s hoping that he can develop a solution in time before Cassandra Moore decides to pull rank and go on the warpath against all who oppose the NCR, which leaves a convenient spot for the player.

It’s this person that gives us our introduction to the Silus Treatment questline. Hsu has a valuable prize: Silus, a captured Legion centurion! Typically centurions always commit suicide rather than be captured to deny any useful intelligence to the enemy, so to capture a centurion alive should be quite a find. But it’s not going so well. Lt Carrie Boyd, in charge of base security, can’t get Silus to talk. Again, perfect quest writing to get the PC involved in the plot. Normally such a sensitive operation would never be given to an unknown civilian contractor, even for a bureaucratic mess like the NCR. Frontier desperation, hitting a wall via official channels, and the fact that the character is the protagonist in a sprawling open world help it pass ludonarrative muster.

Boyd is a real piece of work, she’s openly sadistic hiding beneath of veneer of civility. She considers the humane treatment of POW’s as an impediment, and so looks for ways around it. Notably, while she wants information from Silus to deliver to her superiors, she’ll settle for just having Silus beaten so bloody that he can’t speak anymore, calling it “entertainment.” This is a person who simply should not be in charge of interrogating a prisoner, she is neither humane nor effective at her job, but here she is by virtue simply of being the chief MP on base.

Not that Silus, the prisoner and the other side of this duo, is better. He openly revels in the barbaric practices of the Legion’s slavery system, even trying to ensure that the slaves can never achieve some level of comfort by tightening the collars and making it difficult for them to feel at ease while eating or drinking. Even if Silus is mostly saying those things simply to get a rise out of Lieutenant Boyd, he knows what the Legion is up to and enjoys it. Silus is arrogant to an extreme degree, he is filled with confidence that he can outlast any interrogation by the feeble NCR without giving up any intelligence, that he could easily escape NCR confinement and that he is so valuable to the Legion that following Caesar’s order would be a waste. Good fodder then, for the protagonist to bring him down to size.

Silus Treatment as a quest is relatively simple. Boyd signs off on the Courier beating the ever-living tar out of Silus and then steps out for a smoke, letting the player do whatever he or she wants to the prisoner. Silus, sneering, dismisses the Courier as just another piece of NCR trash, and it’s up to the player with how to succeed. Violence is always an option, you can beat Silus, and eventually gets something useful, that the base itself will be the target of Legion destruction. Silus admits that his fantasy of escape was always a fantasy, he was dead to Caesar just as surely as he as if he had committed suicide before capture. 

Yet if the Courier has points in Speech or Intelligence, he can completely upend Boyd’s methods and actually deliver a worthwhile interrogation. The first technique, with speech, uses an interrogation technique known as Pride-and-ego-down, where the interrogator routinely belittles and demeans the prisoner, usually their technical competence or soldierly qualities, in an attempt to get the prisoner to “redeem” themselves by explaining a piece of useful intelligence that would explain the deficiency as opposed to it just being a terrible personal quality. The Courier mocks Silus as a coward (bravery being a key soldierly virtue) and he defends himself by stating his bravery and that suicide is a poor death for a soldier of his intelligence and caliber, then saying how good a soldier he is for a “self-appointed megalomaniacal dictator.” Silus then spills that Caesar held his unit for three days because of “headaches,” in actuality, it’s Caesar’s brain tumor. The technique works to an exceptionally high degree, not only does Silus divulge that McCarran has been infiltrated as in the violence ending, but also that the Legion is suffering a crisis of command due to Caesar’s illness. The Courier gets a lot of useful intelligence out of Silus and doesn’t compromise the humane treatment of prisoners in the process. If it actually caused some self-reflection in Boyd, that’d be a complete win, but I suppose we can’t have everything.

The full quote "Legum servi sumus ut liberi esse possimus” - we are slaves to the law so that we might be free, means little in Caesar’s totalitarian state where all are subject to his whims and contingency plans for Caesar’s incapacity aren’t even considered. Of course, the Roman Republic was hardly a free state, but Caesar really takes the cake with his dictatorship. If Caesar’s dictum holds true: “Corruptio optimi pessima” - the corruption of the greatest is the worst outcome. how much worse is it when Caesar himself is corrupted? But totalitarians rarely raise the possibility that they themselves are corrupt, because the good of the dictator is the good of the state. After all, L'etat c'est moi is the dictum of any dictator, not just a Sun King.

Of course, fitting New Vegas, you can side with Silus, and facilitate his escape. There, you feign beating him to unconsciousness and slip him a silenced pistol, then Silus makes good his escape, killing the guard sent to bring him back to his cell and sneaking out. Of all the endings, this one isn’t as satisfying. Some of it, of course, is that you never interact or see Silus again, so there’s never any reward to the quest except for the knowledge that the base is infiltrated, which in the pro-Legion side of the quest I Put a Spell on You allows you to complete Curtis’s sabotage operation (and a far better Legion quest, in my opinion, with the NCR quest side being even better given the multiple outcomes), but also it’s not referenced again with Caesar. What would Caesar’s reaction be to the Courier springing Silus? He is quite fond of reciting a litany of the Courier’s accomplishments in Act 2 at Fortification Hill.

If I could improve Silus Treatment, I think I would have made it so the violent path wouldn’t have produced enough valuable intel, and the player needs to do some more detective work to actually get to I Put a Spell on You, or even being mislead by Curtis and becoming the unwitting patsy of the Legion. But overall, I think it was an incredible quest and a testament to the writing in the game.

something to talk about: how amelia was condition and brainwashed to the point where she thought she loved comstock. so, in a twisted & manipulated sense, she was actually upset about elizabeth and thinking that comstock had an affair? because she I'm sure being the 'mother of the savior' was a big part of the conditioning/brainwashing and something comstock made her feel 'worthy' with.

the indoctrination began the moment lady comstock sat down in his congregation and decided to come back. the thing to know is that this was a cult from the get-go, and there are certain steps that have to be followed to create this dynamic between cult leader and followers. indoctrinating one into a cult isn’t a quick process; but in the case of lady comstock, she was picked by comstock for specific reasons to be his bride and groomed her within the congregation.to start off, amelia was an insecure and desperate 18 year old who had been isolated from society due to her own choices and reputation ( “to those who loved me, i was the most generous of souls. there was no pain i would deny them, no betrayal i would not gladly give. and when i had scorched the hearts of all who loved me …” UNCONDITIONAL.). i also believe amelia to be part of american high society, the knickerbockers; which would give her considerable wealth and political prestige that zachary would need to further his ideas and cement the cult into a place of power. lady comstock, when she met her husband, was a vulnerable teenager, and he used her.

there are eight steps to indoctrinating a cult member, which i will explain below as it pertains to lady comstock and zachary’s courtship and marriage.

STEP ONE: IDENTIFY, INVITE.

most cults (i.e: scientology) target those with money. comstock would have been no different. he needed access to senate, congress, and washington, and the funds to do it; which an unmarried knickerbocker heiress would have. he’d have known of her, and had her pointed out to him in crowds. target acquired: one ruined, isolated and single heiress. i don’t think the selection nor courtship was random: he had every intention of making her his wife and wanted to groom her to fit the part.  invitation is when most cults attempt to get the target involved with them. maybe a luncheon, a retreat, a class. we’re going to assume that lady comstock was already attending sermons because it moved her and made her feel better about the direction her life was going, and would have given her hope that her life could improve given time. she already thought highly of zachary: in a moment of informal introduction, he begins to involve her personally with him.

STEP TWO: LOVE BOMB.

this is characterised by a period of support and affection from the indoctrinator. it’s to associate the cult with good feelings: i’m going to call the courtship a love bomb. this would have been a period where zachary would have made her feel special, given her affection, and made her know just how special she was. to quote her again: “the prophet said: ‘there is nothing you can do for which i will not forgive you. for god has granted me sight, and in his eyes, even you are loved.’” (UNCONDITIONAL.) he would have made it obvious that she was the favourite, and venerated her as something for others to strive for.

STEP THREE: DANGLING THE PRIZE.

cults promise shit. zachary promised redemption to his followers, and a second chance. that was lady comstock’s end goal: to be redeemed and given a second chance. it’d be a ‘join me, get this.’ in this case, it’s also his love and zachary would likely hold himself as a ‘prize’ for her to attain.

STEP FOUR: EXTRACTING AN AGREEMENT.

the cult leader will then seek a verbal agreement that you do indeed want this prize. cults want the target to feel as though this extraction, this ‘yes, i need this’ is the target’s idea, not the cult’s. this would have marked her baptism, but not her marriage. that was a later prize.

STEP FIVE: SHUTTING DOWN DISSENT. 

at this point the target is encouraged to do things and get more involved; things they might not want to do. donate in the name of the cult, devote more time, cut off family and friends, adopt more extreme beliefs; and if there is dissent, the cult will threaten to withhold the prize. amelia was…. extremely connected to her family. they were a support system for her. in order to make her more reliant on him, zachary would have asked that she turn her back on ‘non-believers’. she would have refused; and he, in turn, would have threatened to call off the courtship. she, now reliant on his approval and still reeling from the love bomb, would have complied. they marry. 

STEP SIX: GUILT.

now that the target is in and no longer asking questions, the target - now recruit - must be made to feel guilty. they are shamed as it makes them more vulnerable to manipulation. for the already indoctrinated - like lady comstock at this point - this makes them stay true to The Cause. in this case the guilt was zachary and lady comstock’s inability to produce a child, which we know he blamed amelia for. “the archangel tells me that columbia will only survive so long as my line sits the throne. yet lady comstock produces no child. i have done what a man can do, yet there is no child!” ( A BROKEN CIRCLE. ) he very likely blamed her for their infertility despite the fact that he was the sterile one, and made sure she knew that in order to keep her close.

STEP SEVEN: CARROT/STICK.

behaviour is reinforced by rewarding “good” and punishing “bad”. this is mirrored in her later voxopones. “tonight, the prophet moved against his political enemies. he preaches mercy, but 40 souls lie tonight dead, in unmarked graves. if there was ever a man… unworthy of grace, it would be my husband. but when i was beyond redemption, he offered it anyway. how can i deny forgiveness to one who, with love, granted it to me?” ( BEYOND REDEMPTION. ) it’s implied here he sought to control her by having her forgive him for… mass killing dissenters. that would have been good behaviour she was rewarded for. which also turns to backfire on him when she becomes disillusioned, but – this would have been the reward for her failing to produce an heir.

STEP EIGHT: CONTROL OF IDENTITY, INFORMATION, ENVIRONMENT.

this is technically the final step. i would like to say that i believe that lady comstock is…. an ideal, not a person. she’s a character in comstock’s narrative that amelia was indoctrinated into playing. she’s only ever referred to by her own initial; her image dots the city and zachary has constructed her into something holy, something inhuman that can transcend everything. lady comstock even has issues processing that zachary hale comstock is a monster, capable of atrocious things. he is so confident in his indoctrination of her that he shows her what he can do to those who oppose him, and she still she attempts to rationalise it. “i know the prophet is a liar, but he cannot be. i know the prophet is a murderer, but… he cannot be. for if the future lies only in the imagination of god, why would he reveal it to such a…. monster?” ( THE IMAGINATION OF GOD. ) she is so deep within this web that her processing of the situation has been affected. however, in terms of who he has turned her into, amelia says: “the child is no more divine than i.” ( NO LONGER. ) at this stage of disillusionment, amelia does not see herself in that narrative. she does not see elizabeth in the narrative. she is, of course, upset. she was 19 years old when elizabeth was brought to her and very much believed in her husband. it was a genuine upset: i’d be highly upset too if my spouse brought home a child for me out of the blue and told me she was cut from the holy cloth; another action which shows that comstock was confident in his grooming of her. she, already at a rickety stage in her belief, gained cracks in a foundation, and logically assumed it was an affair; which he did not refute. that upset was legitimate and valid given the situation. he hurt her. yet at the point where she records no longer, she no longer wants to be in his narrative; does not see herself fitting in that narrative, and wants to set things right. now seeing that he had lost control over her, zachary chose to do what he does to all of those who dissent: kill her.
