Brooke's Tuna-Tober 2024 Masterlist

Hey everyone! I was recently brough into the ranks of the ever wonderful Murdock's Tuna Team discord server and the legend @pastafossa came up with a list of prompts for us to write for the month of October! Instead of it just being angst or fluff or kinky, we have all three options per day and can choose one or combine to our heart's desire! I have a wide range of characters that I came up with ideas for a lot of the days and I can't wait to share them!

My little disclaimer as usual is that I am working part time and going to school part time, so I may not be super on time with posting day by day, but dangit, I'm gonna get everything posted that I have ideas for! It may end in November, but it'll be fine! I have also taken some of the days off because the muses weren't feeling them or any of the backup prompts, whoopsie!

I'm gonna answer this ask the best I can, but I can't promise I won't "disaster-bi" my way through it, so I apologize in advance. I'm not sure I'm qualified to give any advice. But right at the start of this I’m gonna drop some online resources for you:

LGBTQ+ Student Resources

Now, if you’re looking for IRL community, without knowing your age, it's hard to point you to many concrete resources. But, some options are:

If you are high school-aged or older (which I assume you are), you can always find a teacher/counselor with a "safe zone" sticker in their room or office and see if they have any contact info for local lgbtq+ groups or organizations you could join or make friends. Typically it wouldn't be a concern that any of these people would out you, but if you're especially tentative about it, make sure you speak with a teacher or counselor you trust.

If you're in college or around the age where you can tour a college, I highly recommend talking with an admissions counselor at your local community or liberal arts college (on your own, without parents) and request resources for campus clubs or organizations you could join--

You also don’t have to go to the college to speak with them. You can simply email asking for resources, you don’t have to attend. A counselor or office admin would be more than happy to dig up some local resources for you or give you the contact info of someone who can - it’s literally what they do (trust me).

However, I know there are a lot of people who use destiel and this community as an outlet, or their only outlet, for lgbtq+ community and content, and, for the record, I think that’s great. There are a ton of friends to be had around here. If you’re comfortable, you can try to connect with some people on tumblr, maybe about fanfic you like, or fanfic you write, or art - hey, like me! - and start establishing some friendships. You can hang out via Discord, do voice and video chat, do watch-a-longs, you name it. 

As far as the art question goes: All the art you order from me comes in a nondescript box or flat mailer, but you can always email me or message me in advance to request more packaging or discuss specific concerns you may have.

Now for the fic rec part!

A great one (that I’m also hesitant to recommend because I don’t know your age, but is very topically appropriate) is Four Letter Word by Bendingsignpost. In it, Dean explores is bisexuality - but please mind the tags. I’ll let other people recommend their favorite fics in the comments if anyone has one they’d like to add!

Writing update!

So! Since I finally finished posting Watching Over You (Hooray!!!! Yippee!!!!!), I can focus on finishing my other destiel WIPs! I did a poll a little while back to determine what my next fic should be, and the result was The Wrong Avalon, my BBC Merlin/SPN crossover, tied with my demon Dean fic.

However, my Star Trek brainworms have come back with full force, and I'm tempted to bash out the first fic in the Tales From The USS Impala series (I've already written the second and third ones) before I lose interest in it again. Plus, I started live-writing a silly Dean-and-Cas-go-to-couples-therapy-without-realising-its-couples-therapy fic over in the Profound Bond discord server that I feel bad about leaving half-finished.

Also, I'm gonna do Camp NaNoWriMo in July, and I need to decide on a project/goal for that. I'd like to write every day, and I might set my daily word count to 100/day, since I did 50/day in April Camp and that went pretty well.

So, I think my plan for the next month or so is this:

Bash out a discord message's worth of the therapy fic at least once a day until I finish it or July Camp starts, whichever's sooner

Reread/replot the demon dean fic (it was supposed to be a oneshot but it grew a plot and now I've gotta get a chainsaw and trim it back into coherency)

July Camp:

Goal: 100 words per day, every day of Camp

Write Rose by any other name (star trek au) first draft OR finish writing the demon dean fic depending on what makes my brain go brrr

Reread/double-check plot for Wrong Avalon (words don't count for NaNo)

Think up a title for the therapy fic, maaaaaybe edit and post it (otherwise I'll edit + post after Camp)

Also, would you lot be interested if I posted snippets/writing updates? I'm aware 99% of my blog is just reblogging memes and fanart but if people are interested I can keep y'all posted on how my WIPs are going.

Strip Poker With Dean ficlet

A/N: This was a 15-minute sprint game in the SPNFanFicPond discord server yesterday, where we got a bunch of prompts from a generator and had to try and fit as many of them into one story as we could. With 15 minutes to write, I got most of this written, which isn't too bad for me. The prompts I used were: - Profession: Burlesque performer - Theme: Strip poker - Dialogue idea: [text] I just saw you leave with [her/him/them].  Not beta read or anything because I'm a heathen.

Summary: What Dean doesn't know will give you the advantage in this game!

Pairing: Dean x reader

Warnings: None

Word count: 323 words

The greatest thing about strip poker with Dean Winchester was how much money you could make off him without even trying.

“Aw, c’mon!” he cried when you put down a full house and grinned with glee. “How do you keep doing that?”

“A girl never tells her secrets, Dean,” you replied coyly.

When Dean won the next hand, you happily removed the tie you’d been wearing and tossed it on top of the jacket, vest, pants, and socks that were already on the floor. Although it was true that Winchesters always seemed to wear dozens of layers, you always managed to wear more. Dressing in outfits that required accessories, like pantsuits, helped. While Dean was down to one shirt and his boxers, you still had your shirt, bra, and panties.

Dean’s eyes traveled over your form, resting on your newly exposed cleavage as you unbuttoned the top couple of buttons on your shirt. “Good thing it’s a bit warm in here, I guess,” you mumbled, fanning yourself with your shirt a little.

Dean cleared his throat and then busied himself with collecting and shuffling the cards. “Uh, yeah.”

Your phone chimed as about 15 notifications came in all at once. “I should get a new phone that knows how to tell me when people are trying to reach me, and not tell me once an hour that they failed.” Pulling up your messages, you saw a text from Sam.

<<Just got this message, and yes. He’s down to his skivvies. 😂

You looked over at Dean, who was trying to look like he was studying his cards, but he was really studying the bare skin you had just flashed when crossing your legs.

Thank you! I had fun doing all the Tickletober pieces (masterlist here). Art makes the rounds so much more easily than fic; the top note-grabbers in that batch easily outperformed my typical note count by 10x. I do have some stray ideas floating around for other artwork, though writing is still where my passion lies so don't expect me to stop anytime soon. :)

Hi Lou!!! I'm gonna level with you, I can't remember the last time I had the focus to sit down and read a real book. Write ungodly amounts of my own stuff, about 84k words this year, that I can do, but reading? Apparently too much for my brain. That said, I will still gladly do my best. As far as video games, I have the opposite problem. I may end up breaking it down by franchise for a couple, otherwise 80% of that list is gonna be Mass Effect.

Anyways!

Top 5 Books, in no particular order:

Daughter of the Forest, Juliet Marillier: Technically the first three books, mostly because I was not aware there were actually 6 total until about 10 minutes ago.

The Wee Free Men, Terry Pratchett: The "all witches are selfish" quote Changed me as a teenager, not gonna lie.

The Penultimate Peril, Lemony Snicket: Again, the whole series was great, but that one just. Hurt. In a good way. In a terrible way. Unsurprising given the name of the series.

Soul Music, Terry Pratchett: The book that actually got me into the Discworld books, and I'm restraining myself from just making this whole list Discworld. The Watch books and the Witch books are fantastic.

Odd Thomas, Dean Koontz: It's been literally over a decade since I read it and the plot twist at the end still breaks my fucking heart. Unfortunately for me, my school library never carried more than the first one.

Top 5 Video Games, also in no particular order:

Mass Effect: Okay I said no particular order, but this franchise is like coming home. If it's been long enough, I will just sit on the main menu of 1 and just vibe to Vigil. I think you'd like my boy Yves, he pretty.

Persona 5: Royal: My friend bought me the game as a birthday present for my birthday right before covid really started picking up. A year and a half and about 60k words of fanfiction later over the course of that whole span of time, I still make a point of telling them you did this to me. Because they did. I preordered the direct sequel, P5: Strikers (which honestly, I might as well include as part of the entry here, both games are great). I don't preorder games anymore, not since Spyro: Reignited. I have beaten both games a total of about a dozen times in the last year and a half.

Dragon Quest Builders 2: Fun little minecraft-type building sim with a solid story, tools for better ease of building, and a Buddy to keep you company while you carve a mountain in half trying to get iron, Persona 5 was my friend's revenge for me getting them hopelessly into this game for a good 6 months. There's a demo on steam I always recommend to people, and if you get the full version, the season pass is worth snagging for the extra building materials and the fishing.

Hades: Kade got me this one back in like. June? July? I finally sat down to play it almost exactly a month ago and it's quickly shaping up to be another you did this to me. Having a lot of fun, especially the few times I've streamed it on discord and Kade has accused me of war crimes that even Ares would look at and go "That's not okay." I have apparently lucked my way into some stupidly crunchy builds.

Bayonetta: Again, we're talking the franchise, I adore both games and my excitement was frankly embarrassing when the trailer for 3 dropped. Love me a good hack n slash with angels that are just as grotesque as the demons and two witches that are pretty clearly gay as fuck for each other.

It's not often that ya boi is proud of an accomplishment, but today I am, so here we go...

Back in July through Tumblr I found a discord server dedicated to Conan fans in which some members mentioned disappointment that there wasn't a lot of Conan O'Brien fan fiction out there, and I thought, "Hey, I have that unfinished Conan fic just sitting around..."

So I polished it up, finished it, and anxious as hell, published. Because a few years ago, writing GoT fan fiction at the time, I tried sharing something and got a critical comment. Now, if you read my work you may think because of all the angry sex and hard banging that my queer ass could handle such a thing, but you'd be wrong. I'm hypersensitive, and so I deleted not only the comment, but the fic, and my entire AO3 profile.

But when I shared this time (on AO3 as DRHPaints, forgive the shameless plug) the response was wonderful. Such lovely praise from people I'd come to consider friends that it made me cry. And so, I wrote another. And another. Until here we are, 77 days later and I'm working on my 90th fic, and within the last week I strolled past half a million words written.

This is especially significant to me because before July, I hadn't written in months. I spent my days watching Conan clips and Bill Hader content, miserably dragging through and telling myself, "Just watch Conan tell one more joke. Just listen to Bill giggle one more time. Maybe you can make it to tomorrow."

Since publishing, I've received messages and comments that mean more to me than I can describe. People tell me how they can feel the emotions of my characters, how something I've written made them cry, or made them do...other things. And I can only say that to all of you who reach out and take the time to read my silly alphabet p*rn, thank you from the depths of my being.

Because writing is keeping me alive. I get up and I write until I can't make my eyes focus anymore. Every week when I talk to my therapist, he asks how it's going, and I excitedly tell him about a new concept, or a cool new request, and he's repeatedly said, "Dean, I'm so glad you found this. It seems it's really given your life a purpose and you're doing so much better."

And so, to celebrate 500k and in hopes that I'll still want to be around, hammering out filth in honor of tall, pallid, blue-eyed, assless comedy men with killer bone structure, I braved a trip to the liquor store despite my incredible difficulty going out in public, and bought a bottle of champagne. Gonna get turnt and write something nasty. Here's looking forward to a million 💜
