Appuldurcombe House

Hi guys!!

I'm sharing Appuldurcombe House (abandoned/in ruins). This is the 20th building for my English Collection.

I decorated most of the house ground floor, for reference.

History of the house: 

Appuldurcombe House  is the shell of a large 18th-century English Baroque country house of the Worsley family. The house is situated near to Wroxall on the Isle of Wight, England. It is now managed by English Heritage and is open to the public. A small part of the 300-acre (1.2 km2; 0.47 sq mi) estate that once surrounded it is still intact, but other features of the estate are still visible in the surrounding farmland and nearby village of Wroxall, including the entrance to the park, the Freemantle Gate, now used only by farm animals and pedestrians.

Appuldurcombe began as a priory in 1100. It became a convent, then the Elizabethan home of the Leigh family. The large Tudor mansion was bequeathed in 1690 to Sir Robert Worsley, 4th Baronet, who began planning a suitable replacement.

The present house was begun in 1702. The architect was John James. Sir Robert never saw the house fully completed. He died on 29 July 1747; in his memory a monument was erected overlooking the house on Stenbury Down.

The house was greatly extended in the 1770s by his great-nephew Sir Richard Worsley, 7th Baronet Worsley of Appuldurcombe.

Worsley had left the estate saddled with heavy debts, but Appuldurcombe passed to his niece, Henrietta Anna Maria Charlotte (daughter of John Bridgeman Simpson). She married the Hon. Charles Anderson-Pelham, later first Earl of Yarborough, in 1806. The founder of the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes, he made few changes to the house and was quite happy to retain the property as a convenient base for his sailing activities.

In 1855 the estate was sold. An unsuccessful business venture ran Appuldurcombe as a hotel, but with its failure, the house was then leased as Dr Pound's Academy for young gentlemen.

The house was inhabited in 1901–1907 by a hundred Benedictine monks who had been exiled from Solesmes Abbey in France and were shortly to settle at Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight.

Although the house is now mainly a shell, its front section has been re-roofed and glazed, and a small part of the interior recreated. The house has become well known as one of the supposedly most haunted places on the island.

Not to be creepy at all but I’d love a briefing on his life in Monaco? He just has a nice apartment? Runs into neighbors in a normal area of the city?

Valid! I think out of the drivers Charles lives in one of the most "normal" residential areas as his apartment was, I believe, "in the family" so to speak. (I fell down a rabbit hole of Monaco documentaries a year or so ago. They have a bunch of policies in place to I guess protect and help out the small percentage of native Monegasques, including priority when it comes to jobs and housing, housing aid schemes, etc.)

Whereas the other drivers afaik live in the more central, touristy areas and newer buildings. So I'm sure he has, like, local neighbours rather than celebrities. He did mention—way back in the pandemic when he was regularly streaming, rip Twitch gamer Charles—that his neighbours were getting annoyed with him when he was yelling playing games in the middle of the night lol. Or that at one point he invited his neighbours' kids to play on the sim or something. So I think his immediate vicinity is quite local and quite like natively Monegasque, but afaik he mostly hangs out in the main areas, around the casino and Hotel de Paris and stuff, for like the more exclusive dining and shopping experiences. And of course Jimmy'z 😭

I guess the closest thing we'll get to seeing his kind of normal everyday life are his Monaco vlogs. Or the Canal+ stuff. They filmed him throughout the week in the lead up to this year's race. Which honestly, I still think he showed a lot, possibly more than I expected he'd show? But I still have questions, like 😭 his shopping habits??? There's a full size Carrefour in a shopping center in Fontvieille, the same district his mother works in. But he's mostly been seen grocery shopping in that tiny shop by the start/finish line in a very central area (where he was clowned on for his sloppy parking job like right in front of the local police lmao). And yeah I'm still wondering where he keeps all his road cars 😭 Ik he showed bits of that too, the underground garage area, but like. Surely there are limits? 😭😭

Also I still find it funny that rich people get all these fancy powerful sports cars only to sit in traffic on those tiny winding roads 😭 I mean, I get it, they can easily get out of Monaco and drive off to France or Italy and 'let loose' there but yeah, seeing them just stuck in bumper to bumper traffic around the hairpin is amusing 🤭

Meet Charles, a nightshift dock worker, a loner that likes to curl up with a good book and avoid social interactions. When the neighbours start to get a bit bitey, Charles manages to avoid becoming a Sim-burger and finds himself in charge of a small group trying to make it to tomorrow and not only survive but thrive. Or do they? Try the challenge and see.

To begin: 

When selecting a new game, select the story option where you answer questions to create a Sim. Select young adult and then just click randomly on the answers. Don't change too much about the Sim created. You can also use https://perchance.org/random-sim-generator. Best is to start with a male Sim.

Your Sims will have to be tested for the virus on a regular basis. The test is simple, just roll the dice and if you get even numbers, your Sim is safe. Uneven number means your Sim is infected so roll again and if you roll even numbers, they stay alive. Uneven numbers means your Sim didn't make it. If your Sims rolls clean or survive, they are immune for two rolls. When your Sim “dies” because of a roll, you can either have them die for real and have Grim come get them or change them into a zombie and move them out.

Start in Spring in San Myshuno in 17 Culpepper House in the spice market. Set life span to long and seasons to max, turn off the celebrity system, turn on the basic living system in lot challenges and you're only allowed to have the cheapest of the cheap furniture. Open the calendar and go to the first day of autumn. Create a holiday called "supply run" and choose fighting as a tradition(this holiday can be deleted once done). After a few days in game, go to the first day spring and create a holiday called "The Beginning" so your Sims can always celebrate this day. Set funds to $500.

Go to Strangerville to the Sigworth household. Give Jess the pack items(by pressing shift on Jess and going to pack cheats), put her in a hazmat suite and open all the doors to the motherplant at the secret lab to activate the Strangeville storie. When she returns to her lot, zombie proof it the way you'd think someone with a military background and in a hurry would do. Give her ammo, a weapon and a radio from the zombie mod and listen to the broadcast to activate the zombie event. Do one event every day for 3 days.

World Setup:

Rooftop lot in the City: should be on one of the roofs with a campfire, generator, water tower, tents, washing line and tub. This lot will have water and power but the simple living trait.

In the spice district create a clinic lot with a army feel to it on one of the ground lots in the spice district.

Create a groceries store in the city.

Build a vet clinic that doubles as a hospital. Willow Creek, Newcrest, Windenburg, Evergreen, Mt. Komberi, Tartosa and San Sequoia are all available.

Build a "trader" post on the bar lots in Henford, Brindelton, Chestnut and Sulani.

Build a military base in Oasis Springs with family housing

Build a science facility in Strangerville with family housing

In Henford, Brindleton and Chestnut on the largest lot build a town (think Hilltop from The Walking Dead). Make it a rental property so many Sims can live in your town.

All towns are destroyed. It's the apocalypse, seed your worlds accordingly.

This challenge is ever evolving. I'm trying to use every world, every pack and use every bit of what Sims 4 has to offer.

1890-Samuels (and Fitzpatricks)

This is Lydia Samuels. She is Creative, Cheerful, Neat, Family-Oriented, and a Herbalist.

Until recently, she lived with her parents, Charles and Maggie Fitzpatrick. Charles was always of the opinion that children should be neither seen nor heard, and Maggie was always a strict parent.

Then Lydia met Laurence, a nice outdoorsy young man, who only wanted to be a farmer. Not the life that her parents expected for her, but she knew they could make a success of it.

They married, and began saving money to buy a plot of land. This meant living with Laurence's parents, Isaac and Mary, and his older brother, Maurice. Maurice is kind enough to her, but Mrs. Samuels is extremely demanding, seeming to view her as a new servant than a daughter-in-law, and Mr. Samuels needs to know every detail of their lives.

Sadly, Lydia's only living aunt died shortly after their marriage. Luckliy, as a childless spinster aunt, she named Lydia as her heir. All she had was a tiny cabin that was in need of repairs and a bit of money, but it's enough to get them out of Laurence's parents' house.

I'm starting in the Antiquated Brindleton save by @antiquatedplumbobs, with a few builds added to Henford on Bagley (including where the parents are going to live).

I'm using mostly the rules by illusorythrall here https://www.illusorythrall.com/challenges/updated-epic-challenges/hard-mode-decades/ with some minor changes for parts I don't like and because I'm Canadian (my sims will not be celebrating Independance Day, for example, and inter-racial marriage was never actually illegal here. Disapproved of and persecuted, but not illegal).

The number of outfits being relatively unrealistic for a poor-ish farmer is outweighed by my anticipation of being bored looking at her and the fact that she was an only child with a doting aunt who left her an inheritance (her parents get a total of §20,000, while she gets §25,000, I guess from the aunt).

Yes, he has fewer outfits. He's the actual farmer, he'll be going away to work so I won't see him as often, he's a second son who rolled to get much less money than his older brother (§5000 vs §25000). For Hot Weather, he takes off his hat.

They're starting with §30,000, with the cost of the lot coming out of that. We're starting on the first day of summer, with 7-day seasons. It''s been a while since I played 7 day seasons. They might get switched to 14 day seasons at some point, but one season for a year does sound better than 2 seasons for a year.

Charles (Mr. Fitzpatrick, please) ended up with bad or awful compatibility with everyone except his wife. Isaac doesn't really care one way of the other about anyone except his eldest son. I will not be accepting questions on why there's different coloured text on Lydia's pictures until and unless I figure it out myself.

I will not be dealing with racism, English vs. French, or Catholic vs. Protestant. Or at least that's my plan, and I can't imagine why I would want to. It existed, it's historical fact and often ongoing reality, but it's not something I enjoy playing out.

(AN: I've been seeing that a recent game update has wrecked havoc on people's games so I guess it's good I play offline, therefore never updating the game 😂. I got this idea randomly so I'm glad I found another reason to dig up old files. These next two side posts will serve as yearly round ups so that you can be reminded of what has happened in the sim-year that's come to a close. I will put the text for this under the cut for easier readability.)

Narrator: Family newsletters have been a thing for a while in this sims universe, the larger families (Allan's and Claire's) have used these to send out to friends and family who live quite a way away and are less technologically advanced. Casandra loves being able to write up and tell people about her ever-growing family, so this is easy businesss for her.

Collins Family Newsletter

Our family verse for the year was from Psalm 37:5,6 “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”

To christen the new year, our son Charles and his wife Lorilee welcomed their first child, a boy they named Everett Collins. These two were ‘newlyweds until very recently, but that gauntlet was passed on swiftly and quickly. They live in a wonderful apartment around 30 minutes from us and are praying about buying their first property. Charles works the admin side of this plumbing business owned by a member of Newcrest Baptist, and Lorilee is now a devoted stay-at-home-mum.

This year we had precious Lana join the family! Parker and his beautiful bride were joined together in the Lord’s design on a wonderful spring day. Their courtship and engagement have been so sweet to watch, and they both made sure to honour the Lord and their parents during the whole process. They now live in the same apartment building as Charles and Lorilee and are praying they can buy a house in the near future. Parker continues to assist churches with their media, working mainly with the Newcrest Baptist media team; Lana has a ministry that aims to point young women towards the Lord in all they do.

Almost immediately after we got home from the wedding, Barrett and Kyleigh welcomed precious little Jackson Collins to the family. He joins older siblings Chloe, Allan Jr (AJ), Benjamin (Benji), Rose, Violet, Daisy, Marigold, Olivia, Preston, and Jefferson. Barrett and Kyleigh have trusted the Lord with the size of their family and he continues to bless them for their faithfulness! Kyleigh homeschools the children and Barrett works at an auto body shop, they are praying about adding an extension to their house. They recently announced that they’re expecting another baby that will join the family next autumn before Harvestfest - Praise the Lord!

In the summer Mason and Adalynn welcomed little Bethany Leonard to the family! She doesn’t know it yet but she’s a very blessed little girl - some would even say an answer to prayer! She joins 8 big brothers: Noah, Luke, Aaron, Paul, Joshua, Caleb, Jonah, and Titus. Bethany is doted on my all of her big brothers, as well as her delighted parents and their extended family. Adalynn continues to homeschool the boys whilst Mason works as a manager. They partake in ministry at Willowcreek Baptist, their home church, and are busy in the Lord’s work as a family.

Zoe and her husband Francisco announced to us recently that they’re expecting another little one next autumn! This blessing will join older siblings Javier Jr (JJ), and Cassie. Francisco continues to bravely serve in our country's military, and the family are a few months away from closing out their time in Windenburg. We thank the Lord for his mercy in keeping them safe daily as they make sacrifices to keep us all safe!

Maggie, her husband Shane, and their twins Iris and Arlo are thriving in San Myshuno, as are Reece, his wife Stacie and their kids Liam and Hazel. Both families attend a wonderful church that has an amazing ministries, one of which has them doing outreach to save the lives of the unborn! Their families are such a blessing to us and to those around them!

Beckett and Mandy are in Selvadorada and are thriving in the mission field! They came over for Harvestfest and enthralled us of wonderful stories of their work with the locals and about how so many people are getting saved and giving their lives to the Lord! They’re almost fluent in Selvadoradan simlish and send us such eye watering videos of them out in ministry reaching the hearts of the Lord and bringing souls to the Lord! We are so proud of them and their hearts for the Lord!

Amira, Thomas, and little Maya are doing wonderful in Windenburg! Little Maya is growing more and more daily, with her doting parents loving on her! Thomas continues working in accounting, with Amira caring for house and home. Priscilla, Felix, Andrew, and darling Grace are also thriving in Oasis Springs. Felix continues to work for his father, working to slowly change the country and bring it back to the Lord!

Onto those of us left at home; Allan continues in preaching at home and at various churches all over. We’ve had the blessing of being invited to various churches, tent meetings, revivals, and camps over the course of the year that have strengthened and blessed us more than we could ever express! In our travels we always try and see the kids if we happen to be passing by them on our travels. When we’re not being a preacher and preacher’s wife, we’re at home being parents and grandparents! This year we counted 55 people at our house for Harvestfest, including 30 grandbabies! We’ve been so greatly blessed by the Lord this year (like every year) that we can truly never even begin to repay the Lord for all the he’s done for us.

Macie, Annette, and Ashton are all making good use of themselves and the seasons of life that the Lord has them in. Macie spends all her free time in service to others, when she’s not helping with her local nieces and nephews, she’s providing child care to families at church. If she’s not local to Newcrest then no doubt she’s found herself on the staff of a camp, or helping a ministry with their outreach - aiding more hearts to turn toward salvation.

Annette has also positioned herself to serve others, in the recent past she’s spent her time babysitting and helping various families who need it. She’s recently been asked to join the admin team of a ministry run by a neighbouring church, so in the new year she’ll be working as an office assistant. It will be different, but it’s still an avenue of service to the Lord and she’s excited for this opportunity.

Ashton also likes to babysit in her free time, when she’s not home she’s travelling to see her siblings that live all over. She’s recently taken to baking and has found herself assisting a church member with a bakery often, with part of the proceeds going to support pregnancy care centres in our area!

As we close this year out, Allan and I are eternally grateful for all that the Lord has done for us and our family. We pray that this past year has been a time of worship, prayer, and togetherness. We also pray that this next year is full of the Lord’s mercies and blessings!

Currently Watching: I was at my mom's so we were watching 'Miss Scarlet and the Duke'. It's ok. Fascinated by the clothing, my mom and I couldn't stop remarking about the collars. She didn't know about men's detachable collars. Also those walking suits?! Ma'am, you have so many pleats going on. I'd hate to have to iron those outfits. I'd hate to iron in general.

Last Movie/TV show: The Brothers Sun! Charles <3 <3 <3 <3 pls I love you, pls get some therapy. You can bake a cake after as a treat.

Spicy/Savoury/Sweet: I'll usually choose savory. Spicy and Sweet have a higher chance of being a disappointment. Savory is the safe choice.

Relationship Status: Stumbled into a relationship.

Current Obsession: The Sims 4 put out a new expansion where you can properly build apartment houses and I've been going nuts trying new things, trying to recreate different styles of architecture. Stuck on Arts and Crafts style bungalows again, but the Queen Anne style is creeping in on my Newcrest rebuild and I don't know how I feel about that. Still can't build jerkinhead roofs, which makes me really sad. Also Charles Sun. Also The Long Dark. I'm gonna go moose hunting again and almost die. Again.

Last Google search: What are Victorian/Edwardian shirtbands used for. Still have not discovered the reasoning. Kinda hot though?

DUNCOMBE PARK

Hi guys!!

I'm sharing Duncombe Park. This is the 8th building for my English Manors Collection, and I will add many more!

House History: Duncombe Park is the seat of the Duncombe family who previously held the title Earls of Feversham. The title became extinct on the death of the 3rd Earl in 1963, since when the family have continued to hold the title Baron Feversham.

The house was completed in 1713 for Thomas Duncombe (born Thomas Brown) to designs by the Yorkshire gentleman-architect William Wakefield. It was remodelled in 1843 by Sir Charles Barry. In 1879 the main block was gutted by fire and remained a ruin until 1895 when rebuilding was carried out by William Young. The reconstruction was based on the original design, though there were changes made, especially in the interior layout to meet contemporary needs. It is of two storeys with a basement and attic.

In 1694 Charles Duncombe, one of the richest commoners in England, bought the 40,000-acre (16,000 ha) Helmsley estate, occasionally staying at the castle. After his death in 1711 it passed to his sister Ursula and from her to her son Thomas Brown, who changed his name to Thomas Duncombe and commissioned the building of the present house. On his death in 1746 it passed to his son, Thomas Duncombe II, who extended the grounds to include the Rievaulx Terrace. In 1774, Anne Duncombe, daughter of Thomas Duncombe of Duncombe Park was married to Robert Shafto, of Whitworth Hall, near Spennymoor, County Durham, the famous "Bonny Bobby Shaftoe" of the folk song.

In the late 1700s the estate was owned by Thomas' son, Charles Slingsby Duncombe, who was succeeded in 1803 by his eldest son and heir Charles Duncombe, 1st Baron Feversham. Charles was MP for Shaftesbury, Aldborough, Heytesbury and Newport IoW and High Sheriff of Yorkshire for 1790–91. He built up a considerable art collection at the house and was made 1st Baron Feversham in 1826. His son William succeeded him and was MP for Yorkshire and after 1832 for the new North Riding constituency. William's son William Ernest was created the 1st Earl of Feversham. The second Earl was killed in the First World War and the earldom became extinct on the death of the third earl in 1963.

This house fits a 64x64 lot and features a great room, a formal dining room and a daily breakfast room, a great library, his and hers bedrooms, a great staris, a ballroom, and many others!.

This time I decorated most of the rooms for picture purposes, but as allways, you can make it your own!

The groung floor is suposed to be for service, and it is not finished. Nor are the side structures, that are actually for decorative purpose as I could not fit the real structure in the lot.

The main house could fit a 50x50 and a 50x40 lot aswell, but you will lose the decorative sides.

Be warned: I did not have the floor plan for the 2nd floor nor pictures of most of the inside and worked on an old proposed floorplan for the residence.

Brodswoth Hall

Hi guys!! 

I'm sharing this english mansion based on the floor plans you will find in the pictures. 

I completed most of the principal spaces in the first floor but the floor plan will help you identify the rest of the rooms.

SOME HISTORY DETAILS: 

Designed in the Italianate style by Philip Wilkinson, the Hall is constructed in ashlar limestone, some quarried on the estate, with lead and slate roofs. Stonework, windows and interior fittings were reused from the older building.[1] The building is "T" shaped with the servants quarters forming the upright. The main block, forming the cross-bar, is 2-storey rectangular range having 9-bay frontage.[7] The house has more than 30 rooms, ranging from grand reception rooms with original furnishings to the servants' quarters. The house is surrounded by Victorian period gardens, which are used for special events throughout the summer.

The house is noted for Charles Sabine Thellusson's collection of paintings and sculptures, including a large collection of Italian sculptures bought at the Dublin International Exhibition of 1865.[1]
