I’m kinda sad at the fact that a lot of people are quick to hate, judge, and scrutinise Hoyo without understanding the situation.

With recent teaser of Natlan characters, people are rightfully upset at the fact that the characters shown to hail from Natlan… don’t exactly look the part. With characters lighter than my own skin tone (I’m a Chinese Southeast Asian by the way, heya) people are calling hoyo bullshit and accusing them of being a racist for failing time and time again at giving us characters with POC shades of skin. Now I’m not here to defend Mihoyo for their actions, or to tell you to stop being mad at the situation being the way they are. No, I’m here to shed you some light of how life is as a game company under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Xin Jin Ping (XJP cause I won’t be bothered to type his whole ass name)

With world-wide acclaim comes a price, wherein the CCP no longer treats Genshin as "another game" but a tool that they can use to promote and advertise themselves into the global population.

In relation to Genshin's design choices and how China's beauty standard influences it

white has always been a predominant part of modern Chinese beauty culture, for some reason (I don't know and I'm not going to go that deep into it, research it on your own if you're curious) In fact, it's not only China but also Asian culture in general. White skin has always been hailed as pure and beautiful here in Asia, where the line "as pale as the moon" is a common compliment to give to someone. Skin colour that are tan or even darker are connected to being dirty or stinky. Despite the younger generation not really adhering to that view, the older generation (calling out the CCP here) upholds that standard till this day. Pin straight hair, round eyes, pale white skin, and a thin figure are the standards put upon those born as female. Their male counterpart are not that different, with lean and fit being the preferred body type rather than big muscles or bulky forms.

The reason behind why this is the case is because of Asia's strict social code in rules and appearances. It is especially clear to anyone with basic colour theory that the colour used for designing the clothes and accessories and highlights in the hair look better with darker skin colour. There is *intent* on making it this way in comparison to woeful ignorance of making them look white as hell. If they were to intentionally to make the characters look white, they would've chosen a better colour for the clothes, less bolder ones and eye-popping ones to contrast with the already luminescent light that's emitting from the skin.

And this is not the case for only Natlan, by the way! The same thing happened when the Sumeru cast was first leaked. Case in point this:

Look at how much contrast there is between their colour palette or how much resonance there is, with Cyno his more cold-colour attire and hair, in comparison to his deep dark warm skin or Tighnari that's the epitome of a "spring girl" like come on man. There's INTENT in those designs, to have more darker shades than they are in the game. Sadly, they just can't do it due to censorships. Why? Because, as I have mentioned before, darker shades of skin are represented as dirt here in Asia as we glorify pale skin more.

The representation of uniqueness and differences in Chinese game is not common due the fact that most Asian countries are homogenous, which means they prefer everyone and everything to be the same, to look the same, and follow and do the same things. They do not advocate for uniqueness, they do not advocate for individuality, they advocate for us to conform and to follow like a sheep in a herd. Because of that, most people spend their whole life trying to whiten up their skin, keeping them light, and those who are darker than most are shown prejudiced and scrutinised.

Mentioning again the fact that MiHoYo and the CCP are working closely together, Genshin Impact is currently being used as a cultural weapon by the government. With MiHoYo showing numerous time that they've donate and support Chinese cultural heritage, the CCP is using that fact and holding control over Genshin as a way to promote and advertise sympathy towards Chinese culture and the Communist regime by proxy. It's like how your parents are getting you to eat broccoli brownies in hopes that you'd eat normal broccolis and other vegetables by proxy. Everything and anything that Genshin shows in its game are now under close inspections of the CCP and colourism especially will not fly-by their radar.

In conclusion

Your anger and hatred towards the new characters’ designs are justified, however the person you aim those anger and hatred should not be towards Mihoyo, or Liu Wei, or any of the staff members but towards the situation and the laws and the local government MiHoYo has to adhere to.

We're already lucky to have MiHoYo even wanting to represent and shpw different cultures from different parts of the world, telling us engaging stories, and incentivising us to think more and to be be more of us instead of following the crowd and to judge those in power (if you are literate and have the ability of a 6th grader, you know the theme Genshin Impact is showing in its story). They're also an incredibly fun and kind person and they're my go-to source for finding new Doffy pictures. Rock on!!

I tried to pay homage to their style with my drawing, but failed. I hope to fix this within the digital rendition in the future!

Oh god I'm so glad I digitalized this! It actually looks like Doflamingo in the digital rendition, even if he's still got a few issues like having a rather filled out face with intense hollow cheekbones and a mouth that's just... not that. It does not look like a mouth.

Another one of those godly Doflamingo artists! They absolutely manage to capture the freaky tall vibes of Doflamingo, and they absolutely excel at drawing stunningly gorgeous chiselled bodies. The colours and shading they use are nothing short of breathtaking!

Rebuttal to a fuckass complaint list that was posted on SKZ Twitter

As stated above this is a rebuttal to a fuck-ass complaint list that was posted on Twitter, just for funsies really.

This is based of the google translate of this post, so some context may be lost, but I'm going off of what seems to be the intended point

Point 1: "It is obvious that SKZ's participation in the 5th gen fan meeting was not voluntary, but was forced by the agency to induce them to join. They recently did a voice live that lasted only 20 minutes and ended because they had food. It's not like they couldn't do a live while eating."

Rebuttal- I'm guessing they more mean their promotion of the 5th gen fan meeting (i.e. the lives that different members have done over the past week) because of course their participation in the fan meeting itself is not voluntary because it's literally their job, they're getting paid to do it. As for the second part about the live ending when food came, and shade over it being voice only- they don't owe you their time or their face, so...get wrecked.

Point 2: "Even the paid content Bubble, which costs money every month, doesn't come often. (Especially the members who don't come.) If you're not going to come, why don't you just fill up a month and not come? Or at least get a refund."

Rebuttal: No one has a gun to your head making you pay for bubble, if you think you're not getting your money's worth then cancel it. Additionally, pretty much everything on there gets posted within a couple hours to Twitter, you know the app you're currently using to whine. As for the frequency with which different members post- again...they do not owe you any more of their time.

Point 3: "You can see they are dancing carelessly not only at concerts but Gayo Daejeon. Don't you practice dancing? You can see that the choreography doesn't match. Where did you lose your original intention? You used to work really hard."

Rebuttal: If you want to see perfection then watch the MVs, where they have the opportunity to do multiple takes so it's 'as perfect' as possible. These are live performances being done by actual humans. Mistakes will happen, and are not a moral failing or the result of a failure to practice. Also, they're actively touring right now and so had to learn new stage direction for these special performances which have a different size and shape of stage that has to be considered. It is not a one-to-one equivalence.

Point 4: "It's funny that they always repeat the same songs at concerts and fan meeting. It's not like we don't have any songs on our album. Even Runners didn't do it even though it's a new song. Special stages as good, but I wish they did more stages of old songs. It's like they're just repeating the same songs. "

Rebuttal: They can't just change out songs from tour stop to tour stop. There's stage direction, background effects, so much that goes into how a concert is planned. (And a fan meet is just a concert just with more games in it really). It's not just the members who have to practice all of these songs (anywhere from 25 to 35 depending on the concert), it's the live band, it's the videographers that follow them so you can see them on the big screens, almost every movement across the stage is preplanned to make sure that things can be done smoothly. so even though they have over a hundred songs (probably creeping close to 200 now) they can't have every song prepared and just switch them up whenever. That's an unrealistic and unfeasible expectation. And I think it's kinda funny you bring up runners here, considering it is a fully English song and then in a couple points you proceed to complain about the number of English songs/lyrics, but I'll address that more in-depth later.

Point 5: "Thinking back on the fact that the fan meeting ticketing notice was posted on the 5th sign-up opening day. It was just a promotion to get business owners to sign up." (Translation is quite odd here, but feels a bit like they're accusing JYPE of posting the fanmeet tickets and 5th gen fanclub signups on the same day as a money grab, to basically force people to purchase both.)

Rebuttal: We live in a capitalist society, everything JYPE does is a money-grab. It's why they intentionally made and sold shitty physical albums for RockStar, because they want the highest profit margin. And the very vocal and public backlash over that is the only reason why they tried harder and made (some) things better quality for Ate and Hop. Still not great, but better. Like this is truly a 'fork found in kitchen complaint'. Please be serious, and don't purchase things if you don't feel like it. Additionally the fan club membership had a open order time of like 2 weeks, so you could have always waited. Though you may be stating that you felt you needed the fan club membership to access specific benefits for the fan meet, and like...you can also do without...

Point 6: MD sells them at ridiculously high prices and continues to ship the pretty ones to Japan. They also continue to hold all sorts of events in Japan. I still can't believe they sold that cheap doll with it's sides bursting for 19,000 won at a pop-up store.

Rebuttal: Laughs maniacally in western fan who is paying $30+ dollars for shipping whether it's a PC or a fucking 60 cm plush. But seriously, I really can't take this type of complaint seriously coming from a Korean-based fan. Y'all have so much more opportunity to attend events, get decent concert merch, etc. I won't argue about the quality of some of the merch being made, I think general quality has probably suffered over the last couple of years, and I think it's likely intentional to increase profit margins, and it's valid to call out JYPE for that. I also think it's dumb that JYPE-Korea and JYPE-Japan are so distinctly separate, to the point that they have fully separate merch. I don't get why it wouldn't be feasible to have them be combined.

Point 7: "I question whether SKZ is really a Korean male idol. I understand they have more international fans than domestic fans, but I hope they realize that they need domestic fans to be able to go international. It's disappointing for Korean fans that most of their song lyrics are in English because they're targeting the international market."

Rebuttal: Again laughs in western fan. In regards to the English lyric accusation, based on a couple of different resources- There are anywhere between 187 and 237 Stray Kids songs (some resources include collab songs like Han's 1,2,3,4, OST's not written by SKZ, and SKZ records that aren't officially released for streaming, while some are only counting those officially released in albums). There are between 30-39 Japanese songs, and 17-19 English songs. That means of ALL of their discography approximately 20% is not in Korean. But also consider that of their discography many of their songs are officially available in multiple languages, so there are really only about 10-15 songs that do not have a Korean version. So truly we're looking at less than 10% of SKZ's discography not being available in Korean. As an American who LOVES to watch and interact with foreign media of all types- fucking suck it up. I will promote the idea of making translated subtitles the norm across the board for any officially released content, both from the Japanese division and the Korean one, but the idea that they should only cater to Korean fans is insane, especially when you consider that for two of the members English is their native language, and they are the ones that write some of the English only or English heavy songs... it's giving....xenophobic.

Point 8: "The most important thing is that I hope the members take care of their health. Especially Yongbok's back. How much does it have to hurt to change the choreography for Unfair and worry about his back on stage? Even though he hates showing his pain to Stay. Jisung has panicked before and Jeongin has collapsed before. Is money more important than the Kids? Please just moderate your overseas tours. Stop adding extra schedules.

Rebuttal: I do have consistent concerns about the choreo for their songs, especially considering that more than just Felix have injured themselves practicing or performing it. It's just that Felix's injury is both chronic and degenerative in nature and so must be consistently monitored and considered. I think that it's a bit odd to call out the choreo for Unfair, considering it's very likely that Felix was directly involved in the creation of that choreo, and so it's the most likely to be directly catered to him and his individual needs. In terms of addressing Han's panic attacks...have we known of or seen any of those to happen outside of Korea? I don't directly recall, but I do think that mobbing the airports when they're coming or going is probably NOT helping. In relation to Jeongin passing out....this just feeds back into the conversation of us as fans not pushing them to look a certain way so that they can adequately fuel themselves to do these performances...but I guess y'all don't want to take responsibility for that. And 'moderate overseas tours'? Do you really think that a fairly standard set of tour dates, most having a minimum 3 days between performances is more draining than 4 shows in 10 days, not counting the probable full rehearsals that were done prior to those opening performances, that they don't do before EVERY tour stop...you know, like they did for the opening shows for the dominATE tour? Please be so serious. And yes, they often have stops that are 2 shows back to back, and that's also the norm in Korea. It's the norm for many groups that tour, and realistically they could space out performance dates in Korea a lot more easily than dates abroad BECAUSE they are home, and it is simply easier for them to do so. I do agree that the addition of the 4 new Japanese tour dates is kind unnecessary, but I also think that your complaint in particular is coming from a place of jealousy, rather than a place of true concern.

Point 9: "Do you have any plans to change the Cody (?) team and Heme (?) team? To be honest they're not that pretty. The album isn't that great either. From the Ate dentures to the Hop logo. The components are useless."

Rebuttal, but also not really: I'm guessing that they are talking about the concept and design teams for the albums here, and that the translation is a bit screwy. And tbh, in a lot of ways I agree. I felt like there wasn't a good effort put in on the Ate logo, it feels very AI-generated (even if it wasn't) and just overall doesn't have the level of detail one would expect for their level. But again, I think this is an intentional move being done by JYPE and Div1 to cut costs as much as possible to boost profit margins. And in many ways that may not be the fault of the actual employees working on these designs, and just trying to complete projects within the restrictions they've been given. As far as components, I don't know if they mean the physical components or albums, but I feel like a lot of that complaint comes from them being poor quality recently, but also people say they're useless, but then in a bid to collect all of the PCs they want, purchase so many albums, so maybe some of that blame is on you.

Point 10: "The treatment of Japanese and Korean concerts is so different. In Japan they blow up signed balloons and confetti during Dome tours and the even do encores. In Japan you need an address to get tickets, right? And the fact that they even go to Shizouka for four more days is really annoying. If Stay wants to continue to be Stray Kids, I hope it changes.

Rebuttal: Again laughs in western fan at the complaint that they are going to do more days in Japan. It's very whiny and entitled. But you also already know that you are getting encore days in Korea at the end of the DominATE tour. They announced that in Step Out 2025, so you'll get more tour dates. And as far as what effort they put into the different venues, I do agree that it's a bit weird, but also it's likely and even probable that the staff of JYPE Japan is responsible for a lot of what gets done at the Japan stops, so if you want something similar, tell JYPE and Div1 in Korea, and maybe it'll happen. But considering that I watched a lot of y'all be pissy about the water throwing during the 3rd act of the DominATE concerts, both in Korea and abroad because you apparently hate fun, I really don't have a lot of sympathy for you.

Final Comments: if you are not actively speaking up to allow ALL IDOLS the freedom to choose their diets and food options without fear of repercussion from their company OR their fans, and not actively shaming those who do make shitty comments about so & so looking puffy, not calling out hateful remarks and comments about Changbin, about how Felix prefers to present himself, about how active they choose to be on social media in their private time, then I am not truly going to take any of your complaints seriously. Are you actively shaming and discouraging 'fans' from mobbing airports or following members around, taking their pictures when they are clearly off the clock? Then I'm not interested in your concerns, when their health, both physical and mental, is clearly not your top priority.

"I'm so sorry, amore." He whispered, a tear falling down on your cheek while he brushed a strand of hair from your face.

"I promised to protect you but I failed. You warned me about this and you were right, as you always were." He cracked a small smile at that, reminiscing about the times the two of you argued over something small and silly.

Terzo loved the way your eyes shone with passion when you were talking about something that was important to you. He adored the way your eyes lit up when he cracked a stupid joke, and when your laughter filled the air after you had sneaked around the Abbey at 3 am doing Satan knows what.

He held your face, oh your beautiful face in his hands and was reminded of the fact that he would never get to experience that again. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he sobbed, while gently closing your eyelids.

"Amore mio, se riesci a sentirmi, ti prego perdonami- Mi dispiace tanto, I love you so much, you didn't deserve any of this," Terzo sobbed, holding you. Only to notice that your body was slowly fading away.

"What, nononono, NO- HAVEN'T I SUFFERED ENOUGH-" He tried to hold on but it was no use. Now, he was completely alone in the darkness.

The one single person who he loved the most, was gone.

"-Terzo? Amore, wake up-" Terzo woke up with a gasp, face still wet with tears. You were sitting beside him, looking very worriedly at him.

Your hair was a mess, you looked like you just woke up. And you probably did, Terzo's nightmares were not usually very quiet.

"They- You were- So cold-" He tried choking out, before bursting into tears. You smiled sadly and wrapped him in a tight hug.

You didn't say anything, you didn't need to, you just held him and whispered some comforting words to him.

"Mi dispiace tanto, non ti merito amore," He whispered quietly, after a few minutes, while still tightly holding on to you.

"Hey hey hey, none of that now okay?" You pulled back to see his face, his eyes puffy and red from crying.

"I love you. Amore mio, you deserve kindness and compassion. You have my love, and my heart. Do not forget that," you sternly looked into his eyes. You gently brushed the last remains of his tears away, kissing his cheeks softly. His eyes fluttered close at the sensation, and he let out a sigh.

"I love you." You whispered, pressing a gentle but sweet kiss to his lips. '

I'm currently trying my DAMNEDEST to find a good crunchy Ino/Sakura fic and failing, so it's on my mind. What are some other good ones I haven't talked about in a while... Kirk/Spock, i love those guys. I still get excited about that. Ah, and MoShang, I'm still on the hunt for a fic that really hits that sweet spot. I want them to be like ratscream, but wuxia. None of these words are in the bible.

First ship ever

in terms of reading fanfic and looking at fanart, my TRUE origin story ship is Gaara/Lee. I was 12 and looking at pictures of Gaara on google, like you do, and I saw this one that intrigued me--one thing led to another and I was off down the rabbit hole. I can still remember that author's user name. It was ReigningFyre.

An Anthology of Linguistic + Literary + Research Analyses on Spy x Family by XxScarletxRosexX -- UPDATED 8/19/2024

Of all the peculiar things I could have done with my Master's Degree in Linguistics, I didn't expect that I would be applying everything I learned in Spy x Family. In any case, it's the perfect marriage between my two passions <3

I decided to make a master post of my linguistic analyses because I have a feeling that this will be one hell of a deep dive. It's all thanks to the the Short Mission 11 / Chapter 90.1, which actually made me realize there's so much more to Spy x Family if I revisit the anime AND manga with my linguistic lense.

Below is a list of my published works thus far.

This list will be constantly edited when a new analyses is posted. So, if you wish to have the updated list, be sure to reblog this post (it will be pinned on my page).

EDIT -- 8/19/2024: I decided that a lot of my analyses will overlap with my literary analyses and some other research so it can't be helped ^^; I'll be updating my list with previous analyses added!

Linguistic Jargons:

Discourse: written/spoken communiction or debate; dialogue.

Etymology: study of origin of words and the way in which their meanings of have changed throughought history.

Loss in Translation: to fail to have the same meaning or effectiveness when it is translated into another language; omitted text.

Orthography: spelling system; how letters combine to represent sounds and form words.

Phonology: a system of contrastive relationship among speech sounds that constitute the fundamental components of a language.

Psycholinguistics: the study of the relationship between linguistic behavior and psychological processes, including the process of language acquisition; metalingusitic.

Uhhh, I'm not really sure? But I'm going to go with chapter 20 of Red String of Fate. After so many near kisses throughout the fic, having HanaNene finally get their kiss makes this the happiest ending... Probably idk XD

No, thank goodness.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Welllllll, I've tried to write smut. But I just don't have the knack for it, I can't handle the cringe while writing it and I can't read it back.

If the day ever comes where no one supports HanaNene, it's because I've died. I will never not love those 2.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't even have a proper name for this WIP, it's called Possession AU in my documents. It was a KouNene fic, but you could also see it as HanaNene although they are not end game :// It's a real shame, the fic almost has 8,000 words to it, but I just have no motivation to continue.

I also have another WIP called Boundary Bound Nene-chan, but I only got a few paragraphs in and never touched it again :// The concept was pretty cool as well, Nene wakes up inside a mysterious place (later discovered to be a boundary) with no memories. She meets a boy named Tsukasa, who informs her she's dead, and together they try to find a way out. This was leaning very heavily into Yandere Hanako, which is usually right up my alley, but yeah again no motivation.

Last one I'll share is a Scaramouche fic, the temporary title was 5 times Scaramouche failed to be human and 1 time he didn’t. It's self-explanatory I think, but I started it before his backstory cutscene was revealed, and I lost confidence and motivation since what I was writing didn't match it at all. This one will 100% never be finished sadly.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hmm, it's hard to say. I think I have good ideas and concepts, and I can keep the flow of the story moving at a decent pace. I also think I do well with character interaction? Maybe? Idk.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Descriptions. I am so so so bad at describing things, I think I find it hard to actually put myself into the scene, so I struggle to really get into the details of the environment and such. My paragraphs usually are on the smaller side, which I hate because I really want to immerse my readers.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

English is the only language I know and I do not trust Google Translate ^^;

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Technically speaking, it's Sonic The Hedgehog lmao, I wrote fics for that fandom in my very early teens on Fanfiction.net. No, I will never reveal my account or share what I wrote, I will actually die before I do that.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Hmm... Since the vamp au is unfinished, I will say it's chapter 21 of Red String of Fate. It is the only fic I have ever written and actively decided to go back and willingly read multiple times without dying of cringe... I just like it I suppose aha

when ethan’s parents go upstairs u can overhear rory talking to debbie dazzle and originally u can’t hear much of what he’s saying just giggling & something about making out. you hear this clear dialogue in hungarian: “so when i eat like a pig, i gag this much while brushing my teeth. so i prefer chewing gum instead. if you want to make out, i can chew one right now” right before they show him saying he knows where the best gum in town is

at the disco beach party for jane when debbie winks, originally there’s no more dialogue, but in hungarian ethan says “this is so cool!” :)))))))))))

I try to! I see comments as a way to engage with the fandom, and it means a LOT to me when people take the time to comment on my fic. So I like to at least say thank you!

I have never written something that didn't end happily, LOL.

Hmm. I don't know if it's the "happiest," but I think the joy at the end of and we'd swear to remember it (all too well) probably has the best payoff because of how things start.

I haven't. I do write AUs based on things, though.

Eh. I've gotten a lot of backhanded compliments, but not direct hate.

I have only written one PWP (’till the gravity’s too much) and it was very recently, but I've included smut in longer fics several times. Apparently, I only know how to write smut with feelings.

No, but I think that would be really fantastic!

I have! parallax with @stereopticons, lights like you (glow all year long) with @lilythesilly, and with mischief in sight, we're all merry and bright, which was a large group effort!

I'm assuming this means that I've written, and I absolutely shan't choose between David/Patrick and FirstPrince. You can't make me.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I have a small amount of a summer camp AU written for Schitt's Creek (featuring David/Patrick, Twylexis, and Stevie/Ruth), and I totally lost momentum on it because I don't have any idea where it's going. I'd love to finish it because I really like what I have, but... alas. That is not going to happen.

15. What are your writing strengths?

I like my prose, and I have a lot of great ideas.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

I have too many ideas and have been struggling a lot lately with the follow-through... Though, to be fair, it's been a rough year, lol.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

English is the only language I speak fluently. So, I'll only include full lines of dialogue in another language if it's a common phrase I'm super familiar with (particularly in Italian or Spanish) AND/OR if I have a friend who can translate. Google is great for single words, usually, but it's terrible when it comes to actually translating phrases in a way people actually fucking talk, lol. If I want to communicate that someone is speaking another language, I'll generally do something like: "Insert phrase of dialogue here," they said, in [insert language here]."

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Oh, god. Uh... I'm pretty sure it was Twilight. We're not gonna talk about it.

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

I definitely want to write some June/Nora and June/Nora/Pez, and just more of the Super Six in general. The lil New Year's thing I'm working on was supposed to just have June/Nora, but it's kinda starting to look like June/Nora/Bea, so. Oops!

I think and we'd swear to remember it (all too well) has my best writing for sure.
