hiiii jade!!!! could i please request something with peter with reader who’s maybe put on some weight recently and is insecure about it?? (totally not self indulgent at all) i totally get it if you’re not comfortable writing that stuff though so no pressure
hi lovely! ty for requesting. fem, 1k
cw for negative weight talk/ weight gain
Everybody gains weight during the holidays, you think, tracing your figure in the mirror. Though it's not strictly holiday season yet, it's edging toward the end of the year. Maybe my new year's resolution should be losing a few pounds.
There's a thunk of the bedroom window being yanked open and footsteps across the floor. You tense until your hear Peter panting for breath, likely having swung to you at high speed, or fresh from a fight with an usurped criminal.
You rush back into your t-shirt, knowing exactly what path he'll walk. He barrels into the bathroom, sees you at the mirror and smiles so wide his cheeks look fit to burst. "Hey," he says, peeling the suit off and exposing his boxers to you without shame, "hey hey hey. Can I persuade you in with me?" He nods toward the shower.
"Not this time, Pete."
"Too bad," he laments.
You look away as he strips out of his underwear. The shower turns on and he takes you by the hips to move you out of his way with a murmured apology, near lost to the drum of the spray. Peter has moments where he doesn't know his own strength, but the majority of the time he treats you like you're something precious.
"Stay in here!" he demands as he pulls the curtain shut.
"I'm not going anywhere." You close the toilet and sit on the lid. "Tough day protecting the people?"
"Apart from tripping into a deceptively large pothole, it was fine. Why won't you come in here with me? I wanna rub your shoulders."
"You want me to wash your hair."
"Exactly. So get naked and get in here. Don't make me beg."
You really don't want to, and you're not going to, but it's not a big problem. Peter doesn't truly mind, he just loves you. "What do you mean, deceptively big? Like, knee height? Higher?"
"Mid thigh, I'd say. The people of New York are never gonna let me live it down. One guy was recording me and said he was gonna put it on YouTube for the ad money."
"Anything else?"
He gives you the rundown, describing what perps he faced and an older man he helped use an ATM machine. You hum distractedly, pinching at the fat where it spreads on your thigh, sitting down as you are.
He sticks his face through the curtain gap, hair slicked to his cheeks. "What're you doing?"
"You told me to stay, so I'm staying."
He's nervous for a split second, glancing back into the shower as though there's an answer there waiting for him before angling himself toward you fully, his naked chest dripping and shining in the bathroom light. "Okay, fine, we need to talk about something. But I want you to know that you forced my hand here. Okay?"
"Okay." You nibble the inside of your lip, used to his theatrics. "What have I done?"
"It's not something you've done. It's something you are. I can't even say it. I," —he pulls the curtain in front of his face, moves it aside again– "just need to tell you. Lately it's like you don't even realise how beautiful you are and I'm tired of it. You're radiant. Like, glowing."
Your recent internal debate must show on your face, that doubt, because he gives you a steadying smile. "Really, really beautiful," he says more seriously.
It's easy to smile at him. "Thank you, Pete." You scoop his suit off of the floor. "I'll go scrub the tetanus out of this in the kitchen sink."
"Wait–"
He can't just get out with suds in his hair, giving you the perfect escape plan. You have ten minutes to yourself filling the sink with soapy water and steeping the fabric before he's out of the bedroom in pyjamas, trousers tucked into his socks and hair damp from ferocious towel scrubbing. "You're such a– such a– thing," he decides. "I'm telling you you're beautiful and you walk off so you don't have to hear it? What's wrong with you?" His voice slips into a kinder register. "You do know you're pretty, right? I'm not just saying it to say it."
"I'm just feeling icky," you confide.
"About what?"
You want to tell him, you find. "You know how I've gained weight?"
He doesn't need any more explanation. Peter knows you've gained weight, you've mentioned it to him, and it's visual, and he can likely tell whenever he decides to flex his strength. "What, and you think that makes you less pretty?" He puts a damp hand behind your neck to bring you forward. "Seriously?"
"Yeah, a little."
He kisses you. His nose bumps your nose, his lips crushed to your as he holds you in place. Despite this, it isn't an overly rough connection. It's definitely not shy. "You're beautiful," he says in the space between your lips.
"It doesn't suit me–"
"It does. It really fucking suits you. Have you seen yourself? You couldn't look better."
"Even when I was thinner?"
"You look just as perfect then as you did now." His intensity fades and he encourages you back enough to see your face, his thumb rubbing a short line into your neck. His brows are furrowed, dark eyes darker for it. "Weight isn't a factor."
"No, but you have to say that."
"I don't. Not really. I'm sure there are a thousand shitty guys who'd tell you something different, but I'm not– I love you, the whole you. I like you like this." He grins. "Which should be obvious."
You tsk at him, to his delight, his laughter boyish as he buries his face in your neck with a hug, kissing a messy circle up and into the soft line of your jaw. You trap him there without thinking, chin hooked down, squirming as he blows hot air into your skin.
"I've been putting it on too," he says. "It's happy weight."
"It's not happy weight for you, Pete, it's just more muscle."
"It makes you happy, doesn't it?" he jokes, smiling and kissing and hugging you all at once. "Just like it does on you for me."

Hal bent down as the little girl approached him. Even then, he still managed to tower over her with how small she was.
"Hey there little lady," he said. "Anything I can help you with this fine evening?"
The little girl looked at him anxiously, fiddling with her hands. Ok so not a nervous fan. Hal immediately switched to serious mode, scanning the crowd for anyone who could be her parents. He didn't see anyone running up to the two of them or even so much as keeping a watchful eye from a distance.
"Is something the matter?" Hal questioned, making sure to keep his voice even and calm.
The girl continued fidgeting, her big blue eyes scanning from side to side. Finally she spoke. "You wiff da space po-eece yes? Not da am-ear-ree-ca one?"
Hal smiled at the girl. "Yes, I'm with the space police." Honestly that was oversimplifying the Corps a little but he had long since gotten to citizens calling him a space cop.
The girl offered up a small nervous smile of her own. "So you won't tell da gov-ment what I tell you wight?"
Hal was on high alert now. Just what was this little girl trying to tell him? "I won't tell. I promise," he said after a second.
The girl broke into a big smile at this. "Really? Dis way den." She started tugging Hal along and he began to follow.
"Where exactly are we going?" he asked.
"You see," was all she replied.
Hal was led down a couple different alleyways and was beginning to think he was walking into a trap when they reached an abandoned building. The girl dashed in and up the old rusted stairs, with Hal following closely behind her.
If this really is a trap, I'll never hear the end of it from Batman, he thought morbidly as he cleared the last step. Instead of finding himself facing an ambush however, he saw a boy curled up on an old mattress. The girl was already by his side as Hal approached.
"Don wowee Danny, I got help. Like I said I would," he caught the little girl whispering as he knelt down next to the boy. He had to have been older than the girl. Three years older maybe? Yet he was still so small. Hal took sight of his condition. He was in pain. That much was certain by his little face scrunched up in agony and his quiet moans. He was also sweating profusely. His raven black hair sticking to his forehead. Fever maybe?
Hal continued his observations as he scanned down the boy's body until he got to his stomach. The boy was clutching it and Hal could make out blood bleeding through from underneath. Oh no.
He quickly yet carefully removed the boy's arm to get a better look at the wound. The kid let out a groan as his arm was peeled away. Hal couldn't help but thank Oa for all his training that helped prevent him from letting out a gasp.
The boy's chest was covered in blood. Dark red mixed with flecks of green soaked through his shirt and there were bandages that had been amateurishly tied around the wound.
"How did this happen?" Hal asked, turning back to the girl. He did his best to keep his tone as gentle as possible.
Her smile was gone now, and her eyes welled up with tears. "He pwotected me," she said. "Dey wanted to huwrt us. Dey shot at us. Danny pwotected me."
Anger boiled within Hal. Who would shoot at these children? They were only little kids. If what the girl had said earlier was anything to go off of, the answer had something to do with the government. He would have to take care of that later though. For now, this boy needed medical attention.
"Let's get Danny to a hospital," Hal said resolutely, as he got up.
"No!" the little girl screeched. "No has-pee-tail. Too dan-er-us!"
"But he needs-" Hal started but then he met the girl's eyes. There was abject fear in them. As if going to the hospital would be a death sentence for both children. Where else were they supposed to go though? The boy- Danny needed medical attention stat. That much was certain.
Hal paused. There was one place. He sighed. Batman was going to kill him for this.
"Okay okay. No hospital. But what about space?"
"Space?" the girl repeated.
Hal nodded.
The little girl smiled. "Danny lobes space!"
"Well then. That's perfect."
Hal constructed a new bed for the boy, carefully easing him onto it before putting a protective dome around both children. The little girl giggled as he lifted them up. He then turned to the wall where he created a giant hammer to knock it down. Then they were off. Flying higher and higher, towards the atmosphere. As the Watchtower got closer in sight, Hal couldn't help but groan. Taking civilians to the Watchtower? Oh yeah, Batman was definitely going to kill him.

Small fic based on this!
---------
"So do you think a HUGE scissors sadness could beat a small rock sadness?"
Siffrin chuckled, but kept his gaze on the unfinished chair leg, "I think so, yeah. A strong Scissors craft done by a person can still beat a rock sadness, so it could work in a hypothetical sadness versus sadness fight, can't it?"
Bonnie hummed, "I guess so? You should try that sometime."
"Are you suggesting I go explicitly against precisely what Nille told me not to do?"
Bonnie giggled, "It's not like you don't do it anyway!"
Siffrin almost messed up their carving, "No I don't!"
"Yes you do! I know things, you know?"
Siffrin grimaced, "...how do you know?"
Bonnie laughed, loud and cheerful, "For starters, you've just confirmed it!"
Siffrin groaned.
"And also, you keep going out to 'fish', come back with no fish, and looking like you got mauled by a bear."
Siffrin gasped, "No I don't! I don't lose fights!"
"If you say so."
"I do say so."
Bonnie giggled, and Siffrin exhaled, finishing up another chair leg. He blinked, "Oh! I think I'm done with the chairs."
Bonnie turned away from the stove, "You are?"
"Yeah. I just need to make the table legs, sand and assemble all of these, and I'll be done with Ms. Jill."
"Good," Bonnie says, "She sucks. I don't like her coming here so often."
Siffrin hummed, sanding the latest chair leg some more, "Are you almost done cooking? I can help if you're not."
They shook their head, tongue sticking out as they stirred the pan, "No, I'm neeearly done." They gently flipped the sweet potato fries, and promptly turned off the stove, "Ok, all done!"
"Did you salt the fish?"
Bonnie nodded, then the nod slowly turned into a shake of the head. "Forgot."
Siffrin laughed, and stood to ruffle their hair, "It's okay. I'll bring the salt once I set the table, then."
Bonnie pushed his hand away, sticking out their tongue, "Okay! I'll go wait for Nille outside!"
Siffrin smiled as they ran off the house, and set the table. The cute, nicely decorated fork for Bonnie, the plain darkless one for themself, and the one with the darkened handle for...
"NILLE'S HOME!" Bonnie exclaimed from the door, startling Siffrin into dropping the forks on the table, "Oops! Sorry!" They said, a nervous smile on their face.
Siffrin breathed deeply, and smiled at them both, "Hey, Peel."
Nille smirked at him, "Hey Crabfrin, did Bug here blow up the kitchen today?"
Bonnie groaned, "No!!!! I didn't!!!!!!"
"Results inconclusive. I was busy carving. The kitchen might just be gone."
"I didn't!! I didn't blow it up!!!!!"
Nille shook her head, fake remorse in her tone, "Wow, that's too bad. Guess we'll have to get a new kitchen."
Bonnie puffed out their cheeks, "Alright that's it. None of you get to eat my delicious and amazing fish and sweet potatoes."
Nille laughed, "Nooo! Buggg please let us have some!!"
Bonnie shook their head resolutely, "No. You were a crab. No food for you!"
Siffrin smiled, "What if I apologized and gave you a little kiss on the forehead?"
Bonnie paused. "..fine."
.
They sat down to eat.
Dinner was about as eventful as always, which is to say everyone spoke about what they did during the day (and when had Bonnie had time to do all that? Had Siffrin really been that immersed while carving?) and, of course, sent their compliments to the chef ("We MUST have someone else cooking here, the cooking is too good!", "Wow, you picked out all the fish bones? Thanks Bug!")
After that, Bonnie went to bed as Nille was on dishwashing duty, and Siffrin in drying.
"Did Mr. Flemming give you much trouble?" Siffrin asked, drying a fork and putting it away.
"Huh?" Nille tilted her head, passively scrubbing a plate, "Oh, nah, he was patient and all, he just had me waiting for long bouts of time in-between tasks. That's why I took so long to get home."
"Ah." She usually got home before Bonnie even started cooking, after all, "I see."
They cleaned for a few more minutes in comfortable silence.
"Oh, right." Siffrin said, "Do you want to come with me to watch a play, next weekend?"
"Sure," Nille answered easily, "What's it about?"
"I'm not sure, I think it's new? Something about a boy going inside of a book?"
"That sounds fun. Are we taking Bonnie?"
"If they wanna come!" Siffrin nodded, finishing up the last plate, "I don't think it's age restricted."
"Cool, we have a weekend plan, then!" Nille smiled, and walked out of the kitchen, "Don't forget tomorrow Bon has that playdate of theirs after school, okay?"
"Yeah, I'll pick them up." Siffrin nodded, removing his gloves and smiling at her, "Good night, Nille."
"See you tomorrow." She smiled back, and they both went to bed.
.
Sifffin sighed shakily under their cloak.
Bonnie never did go to that playdate. He refused to think about what happened to their little friend, and instead held Bonnie's hand tighter and they continued to run.
Chin up Siffrin.
Chin up.

I think Jon will stay in the north but with no one, no partners, children, just him
That's definitely a possibility! (Especially with how the show ended) Plenty of others have already written quite a bit on how Martin promised a bittersweet ending, and how all the starklings ending up alone and separated would be a real low point to end the series on. Imo, Jon "dying" and getting a second chance where he is not bound to his Night's Watch oaths just to turn around and rejoin 1 book later seems a bit pointless. It's a bit connected to the Jonsa-cousin reveal theory, as Jonsa becomes possible through the revelation of them being cousins (compared to Jonerys where Jon being related to her or not has little effect, at least from Dany's pov, since Targs are chill with incest). In a similar vein, Jon's death and resurrection opens up more paths for him, since his watch technically ended, and he can become a legitimate Stark/Lord of Winterfell without being an oath breaker.
I would also say, Jon originally joined the NW because it was the only place a bastard could make a name for himself, but the whole time what he truly wanted was to be seen as worthy of his father's name. But when Stannis offers him legitimatization, Jon rejects it. Because at the end of the day, it's not about the literal name Stark, but being a part of their family, and carrying on the legacy of his "father". Something I think the show did well was display how much it meant to Jon that Sansa viewed him as her family. Even though Jon being a bastard, illegitimate son places him in a more unique place than most classic fantasy protagonist (at least at time of grrm writing before everyone wanted to write grimdark lol), his narrative still features all the classic hallmarks of a hero's story. He begins the story wanting one thing (to be a Stark), being unable to attain that thing, but then when it is finally presented to him (via Stannis), he rejects it (thus proving himself worthy). Typically, the resolution that follows would be Jon getting the thing he originally wanted after proving himself worthy (choosing duty over titles, loyalty to the NW, defending the inheritance rights of his trueborn siblings). And if Jon becomes a Stark through marriage to Sansa, well, that would be the perfect little subversion of Jon's story, in that his dreams of Winterfell and children would be fulfilled through probably the last avenue Jon would ever think possible.
Last thing I'll say is, I don't think there's a good enough reason for Jon to have to return to the Wall after all is said and done. The Starks built the Wall, and have been closely tied to maintaining the NW ever since. With Bran off in KL and Arya on her voyage, it makes more sense for two Starks to stick together to oversee the rebuilding of Winterfell and strengthening the North. There's no reason Jon can't help the NW while also not rejoining. (Of course, I am biased as I want to see Jon have a son named Robb, and carry on the Stark name ;))

Take Me, My Beloved Villain - Jude Jazza
sorry for any mistakes 🙇♀️ also everything is owned by cybird, i only translated
Kate: Ju-Jude, please let go! I can walk on my own!
Jude grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and dragged me down the corridor.
Jude: You’re going to run away as soon as I let go. I have to be cautious.
Kate: I won’t run away! I will pay back what I owe you…!
Today is the 31st of December.
I had been helping Victor make preparations for the countdown party since this morning.
However, Jude suddenly appeared in the kitchen.
“Have you forgotten that you owe me for saving your life yesterday? I will have you pay me back in labor.” …….. Then, he kidnapped me.
(I’m grateful to Jude for saving me from almost getting shot last night. He saved my life)
(But…)
Kate: It must be hard for Victor to prepare alone…..
Jude: Ha, you’re worried about him? How kind of the princess.
Jude: But it’s useless to try to measure someone who is the Queen's aide by ordinary standards.
Jude: No matter how much you complain, it's already decided that you're going to help me with my work. Shut up and follow me.
And so, I was forcibly brought to the common room.
On the desk is a familiar typewriter.
Jude: Use it to transcribe the handwritten documents. The format should be the same as the sample.
Ellis: Jude, I got what you asked for.
Ellis, who came into the room after us, had his hands full of papers.
Kate: Thi-This many…..!?
I trembled, and Jude gave me a cold glare.
Jude: Can’t do it? Was your life so light that you didn't deserve a job of this magnitude?
Jude: Sorry….. I must have overestimated.
Kate: Life isn’t light, even for me. But….. It’s too much, I don’t know if I can do it alone.
Ellis: It's okay, Kate. Jude wouldn't ask someone who isn’t capable.
(….. Ellis and Jude are like carrot and stick)***
Kate: ….. I understand. I will do it wholeheartedly…..
Jude: Don’t put your heart into it. All I want is speed and accuracy.
Jude: If you miss even 1 letter….. Do you want to know what happens?
I began work with a twitch in my cheeks, sensing that it was more than just a threat.
———
Jude: ….. That’s enough.
Jude stopped my work at 7pm, a few hours after we started.
Kate: Eh…. But it looks like there are still some paperwork left to do…..
Jude: No matter how much progress you make, there's no point in reviewing if I can't catch up.
(But I think Jude's revision work is well on its way….?)
Jude: ….. What’s with that face? I told you to stop, but you’re not happy?
Kate: N-No. It’s not like that.
(….. That’s right. Jude said so, so let’s call it a day)
I've learned from experience that pestering him will only make him grumpier, so I decided to clean up my desk.
Kate: What kind of year would you like to have next year, Jude? Do you have any resolutions?
Jude: Resolutions? I have nothing like that.
Jude: The year changes, but in reality, there’s no actual real effect. It's just an arbitrary boundary decided by humans.
Jude: Last year, this year, next year, nothing I do will be any different.
(If I recall correctly….. Jude needs money to fulfill his promise to someone)
(That’s what you’re working so hard for, right)
Kate: Jude is pushing forward towards his goal.…. It’s amazing.
Jude: Flattery will get you nothing in return.
Kate: I’m not looking for anything in return, I really do think so.
It didn't mean anything, but Jude frowned as if he had eaten something he didn't like.
He waved his hand as if to tell me to get the hell out of the room.
———
Victor: Kate! Are you finished with the work Jude asked you to do?
Kate: Yes, he doesn't need any more help today.
Victor: The best timing, we were just about to eat.
Victor: I'm glad Jude kept his promise to me.
(Oh, by the way…..)
———
It was when Jude came to the kitchen to take me away.
Kate: Sorry, Victor.…. I have to help Jude.
Victor: Don't worry about it. I'll prepare everything for you too!
Victor: But….. With all these delicious food prepared, you have to get Kate back in time for dinner, okay?
Jude: It’s up to her to decide when she can go home.
———
(….. Jude, I guess you let me go because it was time for dinner.)
The timing of the work being stopped seemed unnatural, so it must be it.
Then, time passed as everyone gathered in the dining room to eat.
However, Jude never came to the dining room.
(I guess his work isn't done yet…..)
Curious, I kept looking at the door, but there was no sign of anyone coming in.
Roger: Kate, could you do me a favor?
Kate: Yes, what is it?
Roger: I want you to bring Jude some food.
Roger: Jude hasn't eaten anything since lunch, has he? If he dies, we'll have a lot of work to do starting in the new year and it will be troublesome.
Roger: He would get annoyed if I nag him so I would be grateful if the young lady can encourage him.
Kate: …..! I understand!
Having found a good reason to visit Jude, I put some food on the plate and left the dining room.
Alfons: ….. Saying you’re worried when you’re really not, how shameless.
Roger: It’s not really a lie, is it? Well, the biggest motive was that the young lady was worried.
———
I came to the common room with a bowl of hot soup and a loaf of bread.
(Huh…..? Jude isn’t here. He left his papers here, so he’ll probably be back soon)
There, my eyes fell on the desk that Jude had been using.
(Ah….. I knew it, it was a lie that the revision process couldn't keep up)
The paperwork I had finished producing had long since been reviewed, and another new set of work documents was spread out on the desk.
(From the moment we met... Jude has been mercilessly and arrogantly cornering me.)
(So why does he sometimes give me kindness that is hard to understand?)
Is it just a whim, or is it to win me over and use me.…. or is it something more?
(….. I don't know what Jude's true feelings are, which is why I'm so curious and want to know)
But, even in the midst of uncertainty, there are certain things.
I hope Jude’s dream comes true one day, those are my feelings.
(That's right! Let's make a wish for the New Year!)
(I think I'll use.….. this wooden desk that Jude used)
Kate: Touch wood…..
While whispering, I tapped the desk lightly. It's a spell that has been passed down in England for a long time to ward off evil spirits.
Jude: ...... What are you doing?
Kate: !?
I heard a doubtful voice behind me and turned to see Jude standing there.
Kate: Wh-When did you get here…..!?
Jude: Just now. …… So, what’s up with the princess?
Jude: Muttering to the desk with a grim look, were you trying to put a curse on me?
Kate: It’s the opposite! I brought dinner, and gave Jude a good luck spell.
Stuttering my words, I explained that I had no malicious intentions.
Jude: I don't need silly wishes like "I hope my wish comes true".
Kate: N-No! I didn’t wish like that.
Jude: ….. Oh?
Jude raised an eyebrow in interest. I felt like he was urging me to continue, so I opened my mouth again.
Kate: ….. Jude says if you owe something, you should pay it back.
Jude: Loans exist to be paid back.
Kate: If the loan is to be paid back…..
Kate: In that same sense, I hope your efforts will be rewarded as well.
Jude: …..
Kate: That’s why….. I wished that Jude’s efforts would be rewarded.
Jude: ….. What a childish wish.
Jude's reaction was as cold as I expected, but that was okay.
Whatever I wish in my heart, is my choice.
Jude: And yours?
Kate: What is?
Jude: Resolutions, resolutions. I'll have to pay you back for your questionable spells. It's a pain in the ass, but.
I never thought that he would give back what I had wished for on my own.
This kind of discipline may be one of the reasons why Jude has been so successful in his work.
(My resolutions for this year are…..)
Kate: ….. I would like to get to know Jude and spend more time with him.
Jude: Spend even more time with me? Come on, you don't have to make that your resolution.
Kate: Eh…..?
Jude: You owe me a lot, remember?
Jude: You don't think you can pay back in a day what you owe me for saving your life, do you?
Kate: Eh, it’s not right!?
Jude: You said it yourself, life is not light. It's not even close.
Jude: Don't even think you can leave me until you pay off all your debts.
(Then that means….. I can spend a lot of time by Jude's side?)
Jude was probably just stating the obvious, that I owe him and I should pay him back, and that there is no special meaning to this.
(It bothers me that I'm treated like a labor force, but still... I don't know why... I'm happy)
The fact that I wanted to be by your side and was allowed to do so even for whatever reason warms my heart.
Jude: ….. Respond.
Kate: Ye-Yes…..! Next year too-
At that moment, as if timed perfectly, a bang sounded.
When I turned around, I saw large fireworks going off in the distance from the common room window.
(….. Oh, it's the New Year already)
Kate: ….. Let’s get along well this year too, Jude.
Jude: Haha, what a gentle and polite bow….. Hopeless.
Jude removes his gaze from mine to resume his work.
It was a new year that came without a countdown, but that didn’t bother me.
Maybe it's because I'm looking forward to being by Jude’s side this year.

Hiii! I'm here to read your ramble about TK8's story. Personally I've tried to keep my expectations as low as possible. But I still ended up disappointed. So what's your take? Gimme the good, the bad, and the missed opportunities.
Tekken 8 Story Thoughts
hello hello hello. Tekken 8 spoilers ahead, I'll put them under the cut.
First off, I have to say I'm having a really good time. I enjoyed playing through story mode, I enjoyed the character episodes. I'm loving customising characters, I'm looking forward to my fight stick arriving and learning some cool new combos and playing with mates.
Everything feels really nice, looks very cool (aside from some giant shoulders and oddly proportioned necks), and I adore little touches like Jin and Hwoarang getting to wear each other's clothes.
Story mode.
Well, what can I say.
It's as I feared, really. Honestly, all I can say is that there's a deep lack of appreciation for the skill of writing in the video game world. One day, perhaps Tekken will hire people who care about stories, about plot, about character development and character presentation. There is no conflict in the Tekken 8 story. I know this sounds weird given that 90% of it is Jin and Kazuya punching each other, but here's an example of what I mean:
Leo meets their father for the first time in nearly 15 years. It happens off screen.
Lars goes from wanting to kill Jin, to forgiving him. It happens off screen.
Kazuya goes from having life ambition 'kill Heihachi' to developing a philosophy that advocates the enslavement of the world to his will. It happens off screen.
Hwoarang travels back from the Middle East with one eye; Claudio decides to stop being conniving and instead genuinely help Xiao; Lee builds airships and perfects battlesuits; the UN decides to work with Yggdrasil despite Lars gunning down their troops in TK7. All of this happens off screen.
And still Kazuya and Jin do not manage to have a single conversation. The closest we get is in chapter one, where Kazuya accuses Jin of being just like him. Jin fears, rightly, later, that Kazuya is right, but he's essentially told that if he chooses to be nicer, then no they're not the same. There's no consequences for his actions as head of the Zaibatsu, no real conflict between Jin and any of the people he's hurt, not even Alisa, who sits down for a heart to heart with him and never brings up the way he forced her to hurt Lars and spoke of her as merely a tool and not a person. There is conflict in this story but no Conflict. No drama. No points of difficulty that require meaningful resolution.
And instead we have trite versions of a story that boil down Jin's conundrum to one of acceptance of a force that has destroyed his life, literally torn apart his friends, eaten people, and been a source of torture to him. He's told 'just accept it's a part of you!' as if this is about a surface level appearance, rather than a violence that has destroyed everything he loves, and that he can see the consequences of in Kazuya. I think Devil Jin was treated poorly and tritely in this story, and that if one wants a 'redemption' acceptance for this devil power, it has to come with interrogation and recognition of the way it has hurt Jin and those around him. It canonically hospitalised Hwoarang, and there's no awareness of this in the story.
That said, I really, truly loved this line from Jin to his mother's apparition.
It moved me emotionally in a way that no other video game cutscene has, and for all its misdoings, I'm so pleased this was included in Tekken 8. This is a deeply Jin line to me, written by someone who understands him. Jin's suicidal tendencies have been a recurring theme ever since Devil first awoke, and post-TK6 this is exacerbated further. There's no one on earth who hates Jin more than Jin, and him needing the desire to live as an important part of his strength against Kazuya, is really well done. I wish we could have seen more from Jin conencting with his uncles, Xiao, and Hwoarang to achieve this state of mind, but I commend the sentiment anyway.
When he asked his mother and she granted him the ability to help him, I thought for sure this was going to be about purification. In a way I suppose it was, but I was very tired and unimpressed by Angel Jin. From the overdesign to yet another emphasis on pure violence to defeat Kazuya, I was just completely uninterested. This uninterest was momentarily suspended when they lost their Devil powers, something I thought was brave and interesting of them to do. Somehow this changed absolutely nothing though, and Jin and Kaz don't even pause for a conversation really before they go on.
I do think it's in character for Kazuya to consider his Devil a tool to use for an end, but I think that's much more something he'd say than actually feel. He's had Devil's power with him since he was five years old, and he's relied on it time and again to save him, I think internally he'd be terrified of losing it. Devil is all that's stood between Kazuya and Heihachi for all his life. There's some trite remark about Devil Jin trying to 'protect Jin'. This is only true in so far as DJ awoke when Heihachi gunned Jin down. Devil Kazuya, however, has kept Kazuya alive all his life, and given him the strength to survive in a world where he's constantly been at Heihachi's mercy. Kazuya's desire to live is absolutely what fuelled him all his life, and his need for power comes out of that survival. His infatuation with power grows beyond this, and after Heihachi's death, we see how warped and out of control this grows, but I feel there are deep inconsistencies in the Tekken 8 story because no one ever sat down to really think about Kazuya's relationship with his Devil, and what that might mean for what they were spinning for Jin.
That said, someone was drinking the good stuff when they wrote this:
This is Kazuya's only good line in Tekken 8, in my humble opinion. It's the one moment where they let him have a tiny bit of actual characterisation. They hint at tying his motivations back into experiences linked to fear and lack of control. It's such a shame, because they acheived this much better in Tekken 7, where they drew clear parallels between the childhood trauma Kazuya faced and his final fight against Heihachi. And yet they leave his motivations again in obscurity in this game, leaving the majority of people, including Jin, none the wiser for why he is doing this other than to be evil for evil's sake.
Why does Jin never ask him about Jun? Or mention that he's been seeing his mother? Why does he not talk about purification linked to being a Kazama? Why has he got so much time for thinking about his own difficulties, but never seeks to ask about Kazuya's? One of the reasons I love Kazuya as a character is because he revels in his own villainhood, and will never volunteer a justification for his actions in the way Heihachi or Jin would. He would rather be seen as cruel than as weak. And it's weakness to him to admit or even evaluate within himself why it is that he needs to be all powerful. But that means that, narratively, he needs a foil to play across from him, and ask the questions that will otherwise never be raised. He needs someone like Jin, or Jun, or Lee, who knows him or has the interest in understanding him, to force him to speak about his past.
There's so much missing from this game, I don't really know where to start. I was discussing this with friends, and we feel like someone on the team had some vision, and was trying to do something interesting, but they were largely shot down at every turn by whoever watched Blood Rebellion and wanted that but 2 hours longer and no cute refridgerator scene.
I can't believe I played all of Tekken 8 and I still don't know if Jun is alive, or why Jin isn't being held accountable for his actions, or why Jin and Kazuya even have any beef. Tekken 7 left us with so many questions and Tekken 8 answers basically none of them. At least they managed to tie more of the cast into this game? But then why did everyone just forget about Zafina and Claudio when they collapsed? Don't they care? Where did Hwoarang go? He got on a bike in that fight then never had a battlefield fight or appeared in front of the Sanctum at Yakushima. Why don't Victor or Raven care about Lars defying them last game? Is Raven salty that Jin blew up a helicopter with him (maybe) and all his men in it? Does Jin hear Azazel return to life? Is he affected by it? That MF was talking in his head for months. If Kazuya could have defeated Azazel so easily, why did he just waltz off in TK6?
I do like the idea that the 'two evil stars colliding' as the end of Azazel being Jin and Kazuya destroying each others devils, forshadowed in TK6 and brought to conclusion here, but all the meaning and interest in this is destroyed by whatever they're trying to do with Reina. I cannot expressed how frustrated I am with her as a character. I suppose perhaps she's from the Devil-Human Integration period of research Heihachi undertook, though my understanding was that he never retrieved Devil cells that were needed for the research, or he would have injected himself with Devil. Perhaps Reina was part of a programme that continued on where Steve and the supersoldier programme were left off. I don't know. I just know that it takes a way a lot of impact that could have meant exploring a devil-free Tekken game in future.
One thing I do Not want to see, is Tekken 9 waltzing in with Kazuya suddenly being a good guy, teaming up with Jin and fighting Reina. Not without serious weight and reflection on his actions, or discussing the corrupting influence of Devil over him. And I've lost a lot of faith in Tekken really understanding their characters or story-writing enough to do this.
I didn't even get on to character episodes, but I think I've rambled enough for one day! Thank you for the asks.

spoilers ofc
hm. like many RTD finales, a bit of a mixed bag. i feel less certain of my overall thoughts than last week (which i thought was a blast, tbh).
the good: i'm... pretty happy with the ruby mom reveal. this whole mystery box set up turning out to be "she was just a scared young woman who couldn't raise her baby", an ordinary woman mythologized by ruby and the doctor over the season, etc, is an extremely RTD solution. and as a fan of his stuff I liked seeing that... well... pivot to his roots as opposed to her being part of the pantheon or something (which I admit I did wonder about myself).
the *idea* of her pointing at the sign to name the baby is nice, I like the meaning of it and what Ruby takes from it, but it is a bit of a clumsy set up. very dramatic pointing, ms miller.
also as much as i was dying to see what the screen said lol i DID love the character moment of ruby stepping forward to offer the name to sutekh, only to smash it, and then clip his collar (lmfao btw). i thought that was a nice character moment for ruby. in that moment i thought perhaps we'd never find out the answer, and that would be something ruby sacrificed for the greater good. i wasn't sure how satisfying that would be and I guess I'll never have to find out bc it's not what happened lmao, but it is where i thought we might be headed.
i liked seeing the gloves and the rope from TCORR come back. i like surprise tools that will help us later :)
loved the memory tardis from the time window and the use of that tales from the tardis set. how cool.
loved the time window playing clips of classic who that's so fun. mel's moment with six's outfit awwww. and i'm sure i missed some of the namedrops of planets etc that fifteen was going on about but i liked the ones i caught. shan-shen! oodsphere!!
i thought the effects of the dust wave and the insta-crumbling was pretty good and spooky
i really like having mel around! i hope we get to see her cameo again
the mixed bag:
'the death wave is eating memories and going back through family trees in reverse' is pretty cool as a concept, i thought. where i think this hurts the resolution a bit is that in the moment i thought, "ok, well, ruby's "safe" because there's the Mystery, there's no family tree for it to climb!" but like... there was. does sutekh need to personally be aware of your family tree to kill you?
i really liked the moment of fifteen and ruby watching louise outside the coffee shop, and i really liked the moment where ruby sits down across from her and then the barista calls the name ruby and they have this look. i ... kind of found myself wishing that it would stop there? i mean, i'm happy for ruby, and i think "ruby found her bio fam and now ruby and her big family are together" is a nice ending for the character. but there was something so emotional and bittersweet about that split second of wondering and connection between the two, and ruby having that choice to make...
the goodbye between ruby and fifteen was lovely. millie gibson is so good her big watery eyes make me so sad. i've enjoyed the two of them together and i think they have incredible chemistry as characters and actors, like, what a team of besties. i'll miss ruby on the TARDIS. but ... only 10 episodes, a couple of which didn't feature them much at all... a bond that didn't get super developed on screen ... I dunno. Left me wishing we got more from them through the season.
I do know we'll see more of Ruby next season, so I'm excited for that. an s4 Martha situation. but then I also worry about Varada Sethu's character getting development time too...
the not so good:
killing off rose, kate, etc in the first minute removes stakes, because while you might worry about characters like cherry or carla who won't necessarily stick around when ruby leaves or whose deaths will impact ruby, you know rose and kate are not going to stay dead permanently. also very infinity war (derogatory) where there was the same issue -- no these characters won't stay dead and i'm not going to humour it lol
rose temple sweetie it was nice to see you stand in the background and not speak. what was that about. she FINALLY got all of two lines. it just felt like she didn't serve a lot of purpose in this ep. I mean I liked seeing her but she did not do anything to the story in either part of the ep
the solution of "death kills death" was a bit goofy lol but it's doctor who the solution is always goofy. i didn't care too much about that i guess. but it was goofy
i really think we could've used a more decisive scene with carla and ruby. carla seems to understand ruby's desire to know her bio fam and be supportive of it and that's lovely. obviously ruby loves carla and vice versa. but i think it would've been nice to have a moment of on-screen explicit acknowledgment between carla and ruby that there might be weird feelings there, that louise isn't replacing carla, something like that.
related to the above, the Doctor says Ruby redefined the way he thinks of family, which is a huge thing to say, but I don't feel like I ever saw that happening on screen. it COULD have. all the pieces are there with foundlings and foster care and adoption...
#doctor who#dw spoilers#i start every post like 'i don't have much to say' 5000 words later#empire of death

hii can I request a dark! stefan salvatore x reader when he’s trying to court her and she keeps rejecting him? n
ya'll have got me in my toxic era but i love it.
resolute
stefan salvatore x f!reader
summary: you had an intrigue for the Salvatore, sure. But you had enough self preservation to know that look in his eye was anything but safe.
.・゜゜・ ・゜゜・..・゜゜・ ・゜゜・.
You didn't know when everyone had suddenly vacated the room to finish their respective tasks for the upcoming night, but before you noticed it was just you and Stefan.
That had been a problem lately.
You didn't know when his looks had turned from scathing to indifferent to something entirely else. All you knew was that it elicited a heat in you that you weren't sure was good or bad.
"Come here often?" His voice, to your chagrin, always had an effect on you. It was smooth and low, confident without trying. The flirty smirk on his face didn't help at all.
You feigned a mask of indifference, eyes rolling upward. "Yes, unfortunately. Your living room seems to be where we host team meetings." You grabbed one of the muffins off of the coffee table and sat in the armchair across from his stance by the fireplace.
He stalked closer to you and you tried to ignore the flutter of your heart, definite fear this time. Stefan Salvatore had made it very clear that he was no longer a predictable man, and that was more than enough to worry you. "I could do without the constant children running around, but if it brings you over then I'm more than happy."
You rose from your seat when he sat down in the one next to it, nervously chucking the muffin wrapper in the trash and making toward the exit. "Why I would love to stay and chat, I think it might be my nap time."
He was in front of you before you could take another step. One hand up to play with the strand of hair that swayed with the wind of his imperceptible movement, eyes holding you in place. "You can always use my bed if you want."
Your smile was sharper than you thought you could muster, your own hand reaching up to grasp his wrist and pull it down. "In your dreams tonight, Stefan."
You tried to ignore the muttered I hope while you strolled out of the house.
---
"Look, man. I'm really not in the mood for this. I said no." Your arms were crossed tightly across your chest like some kind of shield from the argument you were in with the random drunk man in front of you.
You blamed the midnight craving you had for mozzarella sticks, knowing full well the closer at The Grill wouldn't charge you for them, and nowhere else was open in that small town that late. Usually you could ignore the chronically drunks at the bar, but this guy would not get out of your face and Aaron was still missing in the kitchen, preparing your food.
"Listen, little lady, why don't you drop the tough girl act and let me show you a good time?" He was almost unbearably close to you now, the stench of cheap tequila assaulting your nose.
You opened your mouth to reply but a squeak came out instead when Stefan appeared behind the man, a grip hard enough on his arm to make him bellow and a murderous shadow over his eyes.
"I think she told you to fuck off."
"Okay man, shit! Jeeze. I'll back off." The large man was struggling to wiggle from Stefan's grasp and you pinned the vampire with a pleading look, knowing he was one word from tearing the guys heart out.
Stefan seemed to understand your desperation, and begrudgingly dropped his hold. "Leave. Now." The drunkard had probably never moved faster in his life.
You sighed, taking your seat at the bar stool and trying to ignore the sideways glances of the other patrons. How long did it take to fry mozzarella sticks?
Stefan slid on the stool next to you, his body facing yours. "What're you doing out so late?"
You shrugged, chin coming down to wrest on your hand. "I took a nap earlier, and I woke up with a craving for mozzarella sticks."
His smile was small, but you enjoyed it all the same. It was rare to get a genuine smile out of him, and while he might not be your favorite, you had to be proud about that. "You don't have any at home?"
"We both know that nothing beats a greasy fryer." You didn't miss his eyes tracing your lips.
"Will you go to dinner with me tomorrow? Somewhere out of this small ass town?" He looked genuine, an eyebrow cocked and fingers playing with the daylight ring on his hand with something you perceived as nervousness.
"Hey, here's those greasy cheese sticks. Sorry it took so long." Aaron was quick with his megawatt smile, sliding the food across the bar before he went to help someone at the other end.
You glanced after him before you looked back to Stefan, teasing your lip between your teeth. Grabbing the food and standing from your seat, you gave him a small smile before leaving.
"I don't think so, Stefan."
---
Your heart was about to beat out of your chest but you knew that your life depended on running. You turned down a dark alley, subconsciously wondering when the hell Mystic Falls got so many alleys, and realized that you'd hit a dead end.
Typical horror girl. You would laugh at your stupidity if the footsteps of the angry vampire behind you didn't make you panic close to tears. Your breathing almost stopped when you came to the realization that this most certainly was it. You knew since the day that your friend outed herself as a vampire that this day would come. You couldn't play with these sorts of things, because they would play back. And you had come to learn that humans are very fragile.
"Don't panic, little one. It's nothing personal. I'll make it quick." His voice grated down your back as you whirled to face him, staggered steps back into the alley. The vampire reminded you of a cat, head down but eyes tilted up, demure smile and slow walk to pin her deeper in the alley. They were predators, through and through.
Your gulp was audible. "Make it quick, then."
His smile turned feral, and you closed your eyes like the scared human you were and waited for the end.
But it never came.
There was a gurgling sound and your eyes reluctantly opened, taking in the scene before you with a certain sense of familiarity.
The vampire had a steady stream of blood dripping from the corners of his mouth but he dropped to the ground quickly, leaving the younger Salvatore brother standing there, heart in hand.
His eyes found yours, a wildfire brewing there as his chest heaved a bit, like he had just run a marathon. You tried to smile at him but became suddenly aware of the cuts littering your face and just how much they hurt. You winced instead, adrenaline fading slowly and a meltdown trying to take its place.
Sensing the impending doom, Stefan tossed the stolen body part aside and hastily wiped his hands on his jeans while he approached you, jaw tense. "Do you need to sit down? Do you need any blood?"
You were standing a breadth from each other now, and you were trying to blink back the tears building in your eyes. "No. No blood please." Your head shook with your reply, but so did your voice. The possibility of dying and coming back was terrifying.
Stefan's cleaner hand came up to rest gently against your cheek, pulling attention to the fact that your tears had begun falling. "I'm kind of tired."
His eyes flashed quickly and his other hand reached out to catch you as the black tunnel building at the corners of your vision finally closed.
-----
You woke in a bed that was not your own, but you recognized the sandalwood scent on the pillow beneath your head. This was Stefan's room - and then what had happened came barreling back in your memory.
You shot up with a slight wince at the pounding in your head and went to throw your legs over the bed but froze when you noticed a disheveled Stefan perched on the lounge chair across the room.
"Excited to be somewhere?" His question was laced with humor but his eyes were tinged dark, the sign of a restless man.
Your breath was shaky and you came to a full sit, hands wringing together in the echo of anxiety. "Stefan. Is everyone okay?"
He stood gracefully and took a seat next to you on the bed, close enough for your thighs to touch and you noticed that you weren't wearing leggings for the first time, but rather a pair of sleeping shorts. Noticing your slightly panicked look, he shook his head. "Elena changed you when we brought you home. Everyone is fine. I also informed them not to give you blood, because you didn't want it. So I've been sitting here, waiting for you to finally wake up and resisting the urge to gut all of those assholes relatives that I can find for doing this to you."
Your eyelids fluttered a bit, trying to make sense of what he was saying. When had Stefan become so earnest, so protective? When had we shifted from camaraderie to something deeper. "Thank you, for taking care of me."
"I always will, if you'll let me." His hand rubbed small circles in your palm, sensing the still simmering anxiety beneath the surface. "But don't tell anyone that, I don't need them thinking they can start asking me for things."
You snorted, rolling your eyes in that familiar pattern. Leave it to him to compliment and barb in the same sentence.
"So," He continued, finger trailing up to your elbow. "About dinner?"
You smiled, something real. "I guess we can see how it goes."

A Sweet Mishap Masterlist | Main Masterlist
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
It’s well past midday by the time I open my eyes and my head is still throbbing. In hindsight, those extra few rounds with the groomsmen after the ball drop were probably a bad idea. At the same time though, that was the only thing that stopped me buckling and messaging Jensen and coming clean about everything and literally begging him to take me back. It’s been days since we last spoke, so I know he’s probably already halfway to moving onto the next project and likely hasn’t given me a second thought since, so I strive to do the same. It’s officially a new year, and I’m determined to stick to my resolutions.
Avoiding my phone, I decide to take along soak in the tub after washing off my smudged makeup from last night. I start running the water and add in an old rose-scented bathbomb Stella gave me for my birthday last year. As I start scrubbing off the makeup the silence gets to me and I give in, going back into my room to retrieve my phone. Any resolve I had managed to build up crumbles when I see the message waiting for me since last night.
Happy New Year, Y/N I hope the bachelorette party went well
Those few words are all it takes to break down the dam I had been building. I can’t believe that after everything I said he still cared enough to message. A little spark of hope burns in my heart at the thought that he was thinking of me when I was thinking of him. Yet he chose to message me, while I got drunk to push him from my mind. The guilt extinguishes the spark of hope.
I take my phone with me as I shut off the water, strip and slide into the pink bubbles. I let out a contented groan as the hot water instantly relaxes me. But just as I relax, a voice startles me.
“Y/N? Are you ok? Y/N?”
I stare at my phone in disbelief as I see the name on the screen. I brace myself before answering. “Jensen? Hi…”
“Oh thank God. You’re ok. I just hope my second instinct isn’t right then…Not that it’s any of my business…”
“What are you talking about?”
“The sound you made when I answered…you’re either in trouble or having sex…So, which is it?”
“You think I’m having sex and haven’t hung up yet? What do you take me for?”
“You’d be surprised how many people talk through sex, I think it’s some sort of kink. But I really hope you’re not.”
“I’m not having sex…but I am naked…” I say before I can stop myself. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to say that…”
“So, you were masturbating then…”
“It’s none of your business! Why are you so interested? We broke up remember?”
“I didn’t know we dated?”
“You know what I mean…”
“Then why’d you call me?”
“It was an accident…But I’m glad I did. We really do need to talk.”
“Maybe I should let you get dressed first…or finish what you were doing…”
“I wasn’t-Forget it. Why’s it matter anyway? You can’t see me.”
“I guess…I’d love to talk, I just need to get past that last comment…” He goes silent for a moment and then continues. “I also need you to be honest with me. I really like you Y/N. So, I guess I just need to know where you stand.”
“I don’t know what to tell you, Jens…I’m in a messy place at the moment. I want to let you in, but I’m scared of bringing you down, letting you down and just not being enough…”
“I can take care of myself. I’m more worried about what it would do to you…the photos and shit online is bad enough. If we date we’ll eventually get found out and all that will just get worse for you. The fans are protective of Dean Winchester and by default me…But, those boys that made you feel like you’re not enough, they didn’t deserve you. But I promise if you let me, I’ll treat you like you deserve.”
I splash my free-hand through the water while I consider his words. “How about for now we just keep talking? We’re in different states anyway, and soon it’ll be different countries…”
“Just friends? Is that what you want?”
“I don’t know, Jens. I’m a mess…And I don’t want to force you into exclusivity when I don’t know…”
“You’re not forcing me, I want this. Honestly, I want more. But most relationships start as friendships, so we can take it slow if that’s better for you. But I need to know if you’re friend-zoning me, cause I…”
“I’m not friend-zoning you indefinitely…Maybe…I don’t know…I just need to get my own life under control first. Stop dreaming and actually…” in an attempt to distract myself from the depressing thoughts, I change the subject. “You know…I do still need a date for my best friend’s wedding…”
“Great! Send me the invite.”
“Jensen…I know you can’t…It’s okay. Plus, that negates our deal of staying out of public and taking things slow. Forget I said anything. It was stupid. That’s the stupid dreaming I’m talking about. I need to start being more realistic…But I struggle when it comes to you…”
“Hey, hey…It’s not stupid to not want to go to an event like that alone. Let me worry about what’s realistic and possible. Just send me the invitation. I may not be able to come, but just trust me. Give me a chance. Please. Also, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming…we’re performers, we play make believe for a living.”
“Okay…I’ll send it to you once I get out of the bath.”
“Bath! Right, that’s why you’re naked…actually that doesn’t help at all. Y/N, Darlin’, I really want to be a gentleman here, but you gotta stop reminding me that you’re naked right now. I'm still just a man.” The lonely, sex-deprived part of me wants nothing more than to hit the video call button and have what I hope would be amazing phone sex with him, but the rational part of my brain stops me. He sighs and then cuts back in, “I’d love to hear more about your dreams and how you’re gonna make them come true.”
“It doesn’t matter…They’re just pipe dreams. It’s time to grow up. Get a responsible nine to five and actually get ahead of bills and become someone reliable. Someone that’s worth…”
“Worth what, darlin’? Worth not cheating on? Worth being around? You don’t need a boring nine to five that you hate to be worth anything. I promise you real passion is way more sexy.”
“If that were true…” I sigh, “I’m sorry. As I said, I’m just not in a good place right now. I’m sorry for bringing down the mood. Forget I said anything. I should go.”
“Y/N, darlin’. Just wait a second.”
“What Jens?”
“Talk to me. This is what I mean, I want to be someone you can talk to about this stuff. I want to listen and support you. I can do that as a friend or a potential partner…if you’ll let me.”
“Jensen…I don’t know…You don’t need to listen to my depressing thoughts. You have such a perfect life, I don’t wanna bring you down. I have heavy baggage, you don’t want it!”
“That’s for me to decide! I can help carry your baggage or help you unload it for good. Put it on me, I can take it! Let me be your packhorse.”
“No…You deserve better…”
“Tell me, Y/N, what exactly do I deserve? Tell me more about my perfect life! Since you seem to know so much about my life, tell me! What’s so good about it? What do I deserve that you’re not?”
I shake my head. Tears slip down my cheeks mixing with the luke-warm water as I shrink at the sound of him raising his voice at me. “I can’t do this. I’m sorry. I’m sorry I called you, I’m sorry I ruined your day. I’m…I’m just sorry…” I hang up and drop my phone on the mat beside the tub. I pull my head underwater, staying there until my lungs burn for air and then I stay there a little longer. I think about how no one would know or even care if I stayed under right now. Glimpses of my exes’ faces spring to mind and it seems plausible. I let out any remaining air in my lungs. Nick’s words echo back to me. I stay under. My chest burns. And then I see my parents' faces from the day I left home–the second time–and Stella in her wedding dress that she hasn’t had a chance to show off yet, and finally Jensen’s green eyes and bright smile. I break the surface, gasping desperately to fill my lungs with air. I sob uncontrollably at how guilty and pathetic I feel.

How can one rival Colleen Hoover in the publishing industry? What can be done to dethrone her pointless, badly written books?
Sorry, I read “Ugly Love” around ten years ago and I have still to recover.
Unfortunately for all of us, the literary market caters almost exclusively to cishet middle class white women, who buy and read the most books.
They have the time and money to sit around reading, and they read erotica and listen to true crime podcasts to escape the boredom of suburban house wife life/ a career in HR.
Which is why the most popular books are like. So boring. Because it's all, he grabs my throat, and whispers, "You're mine" or "I'll tell you what to wear and what to do..."
And it's like, candy to them. It gets to them like tickets to a Taylor Swift concert, even though you and I have read nastier, more fascinating twisted shit on AO3 since we were ten.
so if you want to dethrone Hoover, you'd have to write something similarly mediocre and cishet for them specifically.
one of my favorite examples of books that seem really stupid but were best sellers anyway -
Where the Crawdads Sing.
think about it.
Southern (middle class white women love some Southern wilderness settings)
Two love interests, white man with blond hair who is abusive and white man with brown hair, who miscommunicates. love triangle, baby.
Discrimination based on being white trash (both white trash women and middle class to rich white women can relate to white trash)
Murder trial. Instant best seller, every time. Especially falsely accused.
Main character is a beautiful white woman who lives in the sticks and mud, yet manages to be so hot and so mysterious and cute - no armpit hair or filth on her, except for the occasional cute smudge
Resolution is basically just, she killed the guy that she said she didn't kill. BIG PLOT TWIST.
So if you wanna dethrone Hoover, try that.
Love triangle with two white men.
Murder trial.
White trash representation.
Southern Gothic.
Good luck.

Most of my reaction thoughts for Blue Boys ep 8 are here, but I wanted to add a couple more thoughts.
Did Suk stick the landing? I think they did. I was satisfied they gave us a happy ending that was sweet, believable, and logical. Although the Taeha arc was stomach turning to watch, it helped Jaemin understand himself better and realize how much he loved Nami. The only real gripe I have with the conclusion of the Taeha arc is that we still don't entirely understand why Jaemin was shaken by Taeha. Was it only because he was physically attracted to him? Or was Taeha right when he said Jaemin was lonely?
If Jaemin is lonely with such an attentive boyfriend, then there are deeper issues here. I wish they could have addressed this and had Nami and Jaemin talk it out. That would have made everything feel more complete. One of Blue Boys' weaknesses is its episode length. In both episode 4 and 7, the audience is never completely clear about what Jaemin is thinking and why he does what he does. If only we had more time.
I liked Nami and Jaemin's reconciliation scene even though I've seen a lot of comments disappointed with Jaemin's apology.
I can understand that, Jaemin only said sorry and didn't really explain himself. However, I think Jaemin has always been like that. I feel like this is him being sincere and being truly sorry. I do wish we got to see him grovel, but it was never going to happen. Nami loves him too much to let him.
NAMIIIIII!🫠🫠🫠 Nami loves Jaemin so much. Nami played with Jaemin's ear again. 😊 I may have made giddy squealing sounds here. I've seen some comments hating on Jaemin because it's always Nami that "sacrifices" in the relationship. It's Nami who went after Jaemin after Sol, and it's Nami who is forgiving Jaemin after Taeha. I don't think we can expect relationships to be so transactional. It's not always going to be a "fair" 50/50 split. Sometimes, there is someone who loves more in a relationship, so they will be doing more of the coaxing and heavy lifting. What Nami does for Jaemin is not a sacrifice to him, and I think that's beautiful and very sweet.
It means so much to Nami that Jaemin said I love you first! I completely agree with @ddeohaming that Hoolim nailed it with his subtle facial expressions.
🫠🫠 I loved the exchange of I love yous. 🫠🫠 After all that stress Suk put us through, this is the ending we deserve. Despite all that has happened between them, Nami and Jaemin's bond is stronger than ever and I love that for them.
No Blue Boys reaction post is complete without bringing up how good Nami and Jaemin's kisses are.
I love this kiss so much. I love the light shining down from above giving the kiss an ethereal feel. I love how gentle, yet full of desire the kiss is. I love the way Nami cradles Jaemin's face. I love the way they suck on each other's lips. I love it all.
I could watch them kiss forever. So sensual. So hot.
One of the strangest takes I've seen about the finale are from the people who wanted a BE. They feel that Jaemin "mentally cheated" on Nami by being shaken by Taeha and having that horny dream about him. They feel like Jaemin is a horrible person and a cheater who doesn't deserve Nami. I try to respect all opinions, but this one is just weird to me. Having a dream about Taeha could very well represent something that's not even about Taeha at all. Cheating is a conscious act that requires acting on many decisions made together and not something that happens when you're asleep. Finding yourself attracted to someone while in a relationship is also not cheating as long as you don't act on that attraction. I admit Jaemin didn't exactly cover himself in glory with letting Taeha kiss him in the park, but he resolutely rejected Taeha after that and made sure it would never happen again, so I'll give him a pass on that one. It's not great, but not enough to make me write Jaemin off. I guess for the Jaemin haters, they wanted to see a fairy tale pure love rather than the more realistic messy love that Suk gave us.
I'm really going to miss Nami and Jaemin. I'm hoping another production (or even Suk again) will hire Hoolim and Seungjin again for another bl. Chances are slim, but their chemistry is too good to waste. Imagine what they could do in series with a budget and a decent runtime. I complain about too many acting pairs in Thai bl, but there aren't enough in kbl. Ever since we lost Jiwoong and Seobin, there hasn't been another kbl acting pair. Hoolim and Seungjin could fill that void. 🤡
#damn this got heck of long#i can't stop yapping about this series#this was a great series given its budget#i'm sad it's all over#i love it so much despite its flaws#reaction time: blue boys#blue boys#blue boys the series#kbl

Between the Black and Gray 19
First / Previous / Next
After lunch, a few crew members came up to Fen and invited her down to the shooting range.
"What do you say, Ms. Whitehorse?" One of them, a youngish man with dark hair and a close cropped beard asked shyly.
Fen smiled. "Fen is fine. Sure, let me go fetch my rifle and I'll go to the range." She turned. "Kel, would you like to come too?"
Kel held both of her hands out in surrender. "No thanks Fen! I just barely passed my shooting test, I'll stick to plants for now. You go have fun."
Fen went to her temporary quarters and grabbed her rifle and met the crew at the range a few minutes later. Dreams was large enough that it had quite a few amenities and a large rifle range was among them. It was in the bottom rear of the ship, next to the hold, and when Fen showed up, everyone was getting issued their ammunition. Fen took her spot in line and when she stepped up the armorer asked what she needed.
"I need rounds for a Mk47 main battle rifle." Fen hefted her weapon up to the counter so that the armorer could see it. Her rifle was given to her by Gord, and printed to her specifications. It was sky blue, with a dark blue K'laxi pattern along the stock running up the barrel and looked out of place among the sea of coal black rifles. The armorer blinked and stared.
"A Mk47? Why are you shooting that antique? That hasn't been standard issue for centuries! I don't even know if I have rounds that big, I have to go back to the magazine and look."
Fen crossed her arms. "The Mk47 is a classic. It has the stopping power necessary to take on any biological opponent, will stop all consumer and many military grade walking frames, is easy to clean and parts can be printed anywhere with nearly any resolution printer available."
The armorer shrugged. "Fine, fine. You clearly know your stuff. Let me go look in the back." While the armorer disappeared, Fen talked with the others. Gev had invited her, he worked in the main battery and gushed about how she took down Ellen.
"I can't say she was everyone's favorite, but I didn't expect anyone to just snap and slam her head like that! I can't believe you got in so fast."
Fen's face hardened. "She was flinging slurs at me. I'm proud of who I am."
Gev nodded quickly "I get it, I get it. I was born on Parvati and even though I grew up in Regantown on Venus people still think of me as just a colonist. I never dislocated a shoulder though."
"If Gev liked normal food like us, we'd probably make fun of him less!" One of the crew with them said. The others laughed.
Gev winced. "They don't like Parvatian food. They said it's too 'ethnic.' As if having a spice other than cilantro and salt is ethnic!"
Fen smiled tightly. She had a hunch that Gev was downplaying how much of a hard time they gave him.
The armorer returned and practically threw three magazines onto the counter. "Here. Any more and I'll have to run the printers. You're lucky that we even had those. Regs state we need to have some rounds of just about every size."
Fen thanked the armorer, scooped up the magazines and joined Gev and his friends. They were chatting and each taking turns running a timed event. In thirty seconds, targets would appear all over the range, and the person with the most accurate strikes got the most points. Fen had done this drill with Gord quite a bit when she was learning, so she was broadly familiar with it. She checked over the ammunition the armorer gave her, and got a magazine ready.
When it was her turn, she stepped up to the counter, loaded and cocked her rifle, and lifted it up to her shoulder. "Ready."
There was a tone, and the first target appeared. Fen slowed her breathing, sighting, squeezing and felt the pressure on her shoulder from her gun. Almost as soon as her finger brushed the trigger, her peripheral vision was already looking for the next target. The Mk47 was a much larger and louder rifle than what Gev and his friends fired. The noise of hers was deafening in the range, and everyone stopped shooting to watch.
The world shrank for Fen. It became her, the rifle, the target and the next target. Over and over, one after another until another tone sounded the end of the drill.
Blinking, Fen ejected the empty magazine, and set the rifle down. She rolled her shoulders back, putting her hands on the back of her hips. "I need to get down here more, that felt rusty." She turned to see everyone staring at her. "What? Was it that bad?"
Gev silently pointed to the scoreboard near the front of the range. Her name was at the top, with the highest score, and three little stars next to the number.
"What are the stars?"
"One star means the high score for the month. Two stars means the high score since deployment. Three stars is the highest score recorded."
Fen looked at the scoreboard. She had beaten the next score under hers by over one hundred points. She nodded once. "Looks to me like you're all slacking." She smiled and slotted another magazine. "Reset the drill, I bet I can do better."
Fen spent the rest of the time at the range giving out impromptu lessons in shooting. Everyone was so sloppy. She wondered if it was something to do with Imperial training or the fact that it was just her and Gord for so long she had extra experience. After about an hour, everyone's scores were improving but they were clearly getting tired. "Well, I'm out of ammunition now, and if I ask the armorer for more I think she's going to throw them at me. Let's stop for today."
Fen and the others stepped away from the firing line and cleaned and oiled their rifles. The others checked them back in with the armorer and Fen slung hers to her back. As they were getting ready to leave, Captain Cooper walked in. Everyone froze and immediately saluted.
She smiled broadly. "At ease, I'm here to congratulate our guest. Overall high score? Very impressive. I had no idea you were such a shooter!"
Fen tried to demure. "Thank you Captain, it's just practice."
Captain Cooper shook her head. "Nonsense. Practice is but one aspect. You have to have skill, experience and training to get that good. You must have been training for a long time."
"For a few years yes, but it was more that I spent nearly every down moment on my previous ship at the range. There wasn't much else to do aboard ship, so I just practiced."
Captain Cooper turned to the crew. "See what a human can do with practice and motivation? She's beaten the all time score onboard on her first attempt! I want to see those scores improving. I'm going to allow her score to stand even though she's not crew to show you what humans are capable of." She turned back to Fen. "Walk with me, Ms. Whitehorse."
They walked down the hall, Captain Cooper's polished boots clicking on the decks. As they walked everyone gave them a wide berth. "Ms. Whitehorse, you are quite a specimen." Fen glanced at the Captain. She was at least one head taller than Fen, and her uniform was tailored to within an inch of it's life. There were no folds or creases out of place anywhere. She had a leather shoulder holster with a well oiled pistol under her left arm. Her short hair was impeccable and she wore her hat at a rakish angle. Her grin was predatory.
"Yes, Captain?" Fen wasn't sure what she meant, but had a hunch it wasn't anything good.
"Despite your... upbringing and your... own choices, you are a beacon of humanity in this galaxy. You are a skilled fighter, a shooting phenom, you're a polyglot, and an able teacher. Fenchurch Whitehorse, you are what we strive for in the Empire. You're able to go through the galaxy and show those... other sapients what humanity is all about." The captain stopped in front of a large widow and looked out. In the distance was the brownish blue orb of K'lax. "Do you know the motto of the Human Empire? Superiores sumus quia debemus 'We are better, because we have to'." She looked away from the window and continued to walk. "Fenchurch. Fen. You represent the ideals that we strive for. You are superior because you are human. You have taken the skills and abilities given to you by your birth and turned them - despite growing up among the-" her voice darkens "-Gren, despite being raised K'laxi you are human."
Uh, thank you Captain, but I'm just me." Fen's mind was reeling. What was going on?
"That's exactly right Fen. You are you. You are human. You are superior. The others out there? The Innari, the Sefigans, the Gren, the Xenni, and yes, even our old friends the K'laxi, they don't understand what it means to be human. What it means to be better."
Fen didn't say anything. What could she say? As they were walking, Fen noticed an outline in the hall. There was no door handle, and no touchpad, but there was a small stenciled sign in Gord's old language. Gord tried to teach her some, but it made no sense. She was able to read a little bit but only after she translated it to Colonic in her head. She hadn't realized Dreams was that old. In a very small font, worn with time and age it said
AI Core
An AI? Here? Fen didn't know much about the Empire but she knew they didn't like AIs. What was an AI Core room doing here, even looking as old and abandoned as it was. She was snapped back to reality by Captain Cooper stopping. "Fen, I am pleased you joined us. I think you have been a... breath of fresh atmosphere for the crew. Please consider signing on with the Imperial Navy. I have some pull back on Venus, I come from a... prominent family. I could get you fast tracked to officer. In a few years you'd probably have your own command. I'd hate to see you... waste your best years out there."
Every nerve in Fen's body told her to just nod along, but not to agree to anything. The last thing she wanted to do was join the Empire, especially after a speech like that. Fen wondered if it was supposed to sound complimentary. "Thank you for saying so Captain. I'm glad I could help out. I'll think on what you said."
She smiled broadly and lightly brushed her shoulder. "You do that, Fen. There are more benefits to the Empire than you know." She bent her head lower to be in line with Fen's. "When it's just the two of us, you can call me Crystal." She purred.

I want to say thank you for your insight into Raven's character, especially in terms of relationships as more and more I've seen that 1) too many think Gar is her only love interest AND the only one who made an effort to reach out to her thus diminishing the impact others have done for her further especially the usually shafted Vic, Kory, and Joey (who all had actual chemistry and heartfelt moments with her). And 2), acting like since she and Gar are in a (rushed and OoC) happy relationship that is the end of Raven's character journey and her fans should like it. Gar or no Gar I don't like how Raven's stories have been taken over by romance as a cure to all her problems. I'm somewhat hopeful on John Layman as he's an experienced writer who seems to have grown up reading NTT rather than someone who are more familiar with the TT cartoon versions and it shows with some writers. Still don't think I'll ever care for BBRae and look forward to them breaking up and doing things without each other again whenever they will be.
Thanks, I'm glad you like my posts!
I really agree so much with your second point. Not everyone will necessarily agree with this, but in my opinion a comic book character can't get their happily ever after if comics are still being written about them. That's the ending of a story, and there's no end to Raven's story in sight, since they're going to keep writing comics about her and every other moderately popular DC character until the day the company shuts down. That doesn't mean that they can't have character arcs and improve their situations, but I have no interest in seeing Raven consistently written as 100% recovered, healthy, and normal.
Especially considering Raven clearly doesn't have a happily ever after. Trigon was literally just attacking her friends and turning her evil, and the resolution to that story didn't even kill him (tell us what "Demons don't die. They just fade away." means Tom!!!) Which goes back to my first point, I think. I don't think she can necessarily never have a romance but she definitely can't have the super pain free zero angst one she's having with Gar right now while Trigon is still alive and trying to corrupt her. Even if Trigon was killed, she's not going to just instantly let go of that repression overnight.
I don't think it's impossible to write Raven still in character while in a romance. I don't even think it would be impossible with Gar, even though he'd still be far from my first choice. But the way they're writing her relationship with Gar right now is so, so OOC, and yeah I hope Layman does a better job than Taylor did. Unfortunately he's already said that BBRae will be sticking around (it's fully possible that he genuinely likes the relationship, but I'd bet money that BBRae is an editorial mandate rn for the characters). Hopefully the way they're written will at least be more in character.

Recent Egg Developments, How I Feel About It, and What I'm Doing After
Alright I'm gonna stop being sad for like two minutes, or at least long enough to explain what exactly happened for those who missed it
So we had the Murder Mystery Event today, and a lot of people showed up. It was really fun, and we really enjoyed it
And then, after it was over, Richarlyson informed us that he was leaving QSMP. He did not give a reason as far as I know, and I don't think it's smart or fair to speculate. I have my own ideas as to why, but I know that sharing them wouldn't be productive
Not long after, over on Phil's stream, Chayanne and Lullah informed us that they were leaving as well. They did talk pretty vaguely about "The next time they wake up," but this could have likely been some flowery language and not literal. There's a strong chance they will not wake up in QSMP again
As of now, Pepito and Leo are the only Eggs confirmed to still be part of the project, but I'm not really sure what the future will hold for them
Like I said before, I am personally hoping this is a sort of indefinite hiatus. Like they're leaving and there's a strong chance they won't come back, but there could be a non-zero chance sometime in the future. I would not get my hopes up for this though, because the chances of that happening are most likely very slim
I am honestly really sad about this development, but we all knew this couldn't last forever. I wish we had a better resolution, but this is how things are for now. I don't know if this is related to the Admin Situation or not, but again, since that hasn't been confirmed, we shouldn't speculate. It's just as possible that they felt they were done with this chapter of their life, which is entirely fair. I will never hold this decision against them, and I really hope others don't either. I wish them the best, and I wish you all the best as well, QSMPblr
Because I'm honestly not sure where I'm gonna go from here. Chayanne and Lullah were a huge reason I was so invested with QSMP, and the same goes for all the other Eggs. And while I'd love to say that I'll definitely stick around 100%, I'm just not sure I'll do that. I guess we'll see, but if I start petering out after this, know that I had a hell of a time over here
I've never been part of a fandom to this capacity before, and I had a hell of a time. Theorizing, ranting, sharing my thoughts, it was all a blast. And I wanna say that I might not have interacted with others due to anxiety, but I was always so happy to see that people liked what I had to say, and seeing that some people were coming back for it, or going through my blog and liking everything. I may have never said anything, but I saw you, and I appreciate you all so much
I might start talking about more non-QSMP Stuff here too, so if anyone who followed me JUST for QSMP, sorry. But I don't want this blog to die out, because it's been such a fun chapter for me. It might be a new chapter now, but I'm still gonna be here for it
Thanks again everyone. Thanks Egg Admins, Non-Egg Admins, QSMP Creators, QSMPblr, and Everyone else in-between
And of course, Thanks Quackity, for making such an incredible experience
It's been a wild ride
#You guys will never understand what it means for me to say that last sentence#I'm actually choking up right now#I really don't cry very often#But I'm getting really close here and it sucks#I'm gonna miss them#And I'm gonna miss the magic that was happening here for so long#But I had fun#And I don't regret it#So if this is goodbye#Then goodbye#But if not#Then I'll see you all later#qsmp#qsmp eggs#qsmp quackity#quackity

I mean what this anon says is true. There is no set timeline for when things need to happen technically. And the show can do it whenever.
But at the same time
What’s the point in the show doing it in the last 5 minutes of the season when all the people who wanted to see it, are no longer there to see it. Sure some will still stick around but a lot won’t. They will long before that moment have sighed and accepted to themselves they seemingly got played again (and honestly with all the promo, press, interviews, language etc being used can’t even say they’d be wrong to feel that way this time) and at the point when the show finally does it at say the very end of the season, it’ll end up just looking like an attempt to reverse course and get those viewers back.
And I’m sorry but viewers and the characters deserve better than having buddies story essentially reduced down to a cheap numbers grab. We’ve all been saying if they wanna drag buddie out a little longer then fine. But that comes with the condition of giving solid concrete proof it’s heading that way. And that proof involves Eddie. Buddie can not move forward now until Eddie is moved forward with his sexuality.
And if there is one thing this entire hiatus has shown us, or at least should have made clear to everyone by now, that the people in charge of social media, the cast and crew, writers, and the show itself are very much lurking in fandom spaces, and very much aware of the fandoms thoughts, theories, and the over all feel of the situation. So knowing all that, they have to be aware that dragging out Eddie’s story to the end of the season would be something that’s going to back fire because it’s extremely clear and has been extremely clear because no one has made it a secret that this is it. If it doesn’t happen now then most of them have agreed it’s not gonna happen. And most of them have said flat out if it’s not happening then that’s it. They won’t be watching live anymore. They might watch after it airs. Emphasis on might. And they might follow along with some spoilers online. But they would essentially be done with the show. And that’s where the juggling comes in another one of your anons mentioned. Because they see all of that and they need to be able to juggle that with making the story not dragged out past its prime. Because at that point, even if the plan has always been queer Eddie at end of the season, they will never be able to beat the allegations of it was just to get viewers back at that point.
Yep. You're right.
I've seen quite a few people in fandom say they'll stop watching live (or even stop watching the show full stop) if there isn't even a hint anything before the midseason hiatus.
Just to make it clear, I won't stop watching 911 at this point. I'm too invested in these character's lives. I need to know everything about all of them, so I'll definitely keep on watching, no matter what.
But a great deal of my enjoyment would be lost if we -once again- have to see Buck go from relationship to relationship and Eddie staying perpetually single, because women are clearly not his thing. Where's the resolution in that? Where is the satisfaction for the viewer?
This is also a big part of the reason why I'm pretty sure they're pushing forward with queer Eddie and Buddie. They are stuck in a corner and the only way for these two characters to have a satisfying ending is if they eventually get together. And this is something I think we'll see the beginnings of before the midseason finale.
It's the only narrative that makes logical sense for them.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
