DP x DC Prompt #22
When Jason Todd had left his little brother to watch his mom while he did a supply run, he wasn't expecting to come back to a bunch of police.
Staying hidden, he learned that his mother had died and his brother had been taken to be put in the foster system. But they were looking for Jason too.
Running away, Jason vowed to find Danny.
But when they're reunited, they've both shared one thing: death.

if requests are open, i'd like to ask for a fic of yandere batfam caring for a sick reader (i've got 1 foot in the grave rn 🤒) with forced infantilization (if that doesn't squick you out, hopefully) gn reader would be preferred. thank youuu 🙏
They are in fact open and fun fact, ive never done infantilization before so im super excited. I think what I'm doing to do is like a mini fic of each batfam member and how they're deal with you being sick. I'll totally do a gn! reader but they might come across as non binary.
-
Alfred: not the worst but not the best. Fussing over you all the damn time whenever you have even the faintest bit of even a cold because he’s lost enough people, you will not be one of them. He tucks you in bed. and will read to the books he read when he was young, smiling to himself with you fall asleep from the drugged milk. Over all a 5/10
Bruce: Doesn’t really believe in it. Thinks that forcing you to be strong will make you, an oldest daughter even stronger. Still when you get sick he’s so gentle with you, cooing that he loves you and that soon you’ll be all better, that your dad is here now. It hurts so badly because you know who he is and yet he’s so fucking gentle with you. 5/10
Dick: Honestly he’s like this all the damn time. Says that because you were an oldest you ought to relive your childhood. Holds basic respect over you to make sure that you do what he wants when he wants because you know that he’ll go back to that coddling cooing cruelty if you don’t. When you’re sick it’s turned up to the max because he likes taking care of people who can’t fight back. Likes being able to hug you and hold you and love on you all he wants. 8/10
Jason: He’s definitely more gentle with you than he is with his siblings but definitely has rough edges. He sees you as someone that needs to be protected but in the manor you are more equal. He fusses when you’re sick for sure because even though he knows that you have the best medical care, he still remembers all the people he lost in crime ally. He’s not obvious about it because he doesn’t know how to be but yikes does this man watch over you like a hawk. 4/10
Cassandra: Thinks that you’re weak and needs her care in a way that her siblings and steph do not. Cass respects strength and the ability of people to take care of themselves ,and you in her eyes can not do that. So when you fight, she forces you down, humming sweet lullabies from cultures all over the world. When you’re sick it proves her point because the rest of them would have been over this by now. You need her. 7/10.
Tim: uses it to manipulate the fuck outta you. Tells you that you are weak, that your sickness is proof you need their love and attention. Will drug you to be dependent on them will you’re ill and probably made you sick in the first place so you’d learn that you belonged in the family, that there is no going back for you. Calls you a child even though you’re older than him. 8/10
Duke: They almost coordinate with Tim, making sure that you never suspect any of them. Duke’s power is words, they know how to spin them and manipulate them and make it so that you aren’t really sure of what’s real and what you dreamed up. A gaslighter to the max. Loves and respects you but thinks that you need to stay here, you aren’t strong enough to be a bat’s lieutenant. 7/10
Damian: While Dami does think that you are weak, he also thinks that. there is a value to you that the others do not quite understand. You soothe the family and act asa merger so that even when they anger each other, they come back for you. Damian is very intuitive and this allows him to understand you better even if he lacks empathy to those outside of his family. Even when you are ill he worries over you but demands you heal because you are strong. 0/10

Any lgbt headcanons of the batfam? :)
I have too many of them to include on a single ask so I'll only list a couple of them here.
(please keep in mind that those are HEADCANONS. I don't want anyone screaming in my inbox that most of them aren't canon in the comic universe, I know that myself. But it's always nice to be creative with your favourite characters).
Also warning! not all of them are fluffy.
Tim first came out as bi to his older brother Dick. To the one person who always supports him and is there for him. And ofc Dick made him feel accepted (not because I headcanon Dick being also bi but because Dick will always make Tim feel accepted and loved. Period)
Everytime Damian and Tim are having brotherly fights the latter yells that Damian's actions "is a crime against lgbt + community". Which drives Damian mad because he's really a lgbt+ supporter and Tim knows it irritates Dami that's why he keeps saying it ( totally brotherly behavior).
But aside from their sibling fights if anyone dares to make an ill comment about his big brother Tim dating a boy in Damian's presence, they are gonna have their asses kicked.
Dick and Barbara are the both bi and in a relationship ( well the latter is also canon in main universe). Unlike, the stereotypes that bi people like to sleep around ( which are very harmful and wrong , imo) both Dick and Babs only had serious relationships in their lives and always needed love in order to have sex with someone.
Jason doesn't like sex due to the awful circumstances of his first time ( groomed by an older woman he trusted). For a long time he thinks something is wrong with him for not enjoying or wanting sex and maybe that is a side affect on his resurrection.
Once while he was drunk and crying he shared information about his dislike of sex and how he thought it made him abnormal with big sis Babs. She assured him that he's perfectly normal and ( after asking Cass' permission first) she got him in touch with the other batfamily member who doesn't like sex, aka Cass.
Cassandra, unlike Jason, doesn't have a traumatic experience for disliking sex. She doesn't even have strong negative feelings about sex, she simply doesn't feel the need to do it and that's why she never had or plans to have sex. Being a private person she only shared the fact that she's ace with Steph and Babs.
But she felt relieved to share that info with another person who was also possibly ace ( Jason) because sometimes you need to talk to someone who's like you. Jason also felt better after talking with Cass and now those two who previously rarely interacted have a stronger bond.
Steph never gave any labels to herself. In the past she enjoyed being in relationships (and having sex) with both boys and girls. But once she fells for Cass ( StephCass is always endgame) she doesn't care about not having sex with Cass due to the latter being ace. She wants to be in a relationship with Cass and she wouldn't change a thing about her girlfriend
Bruce is a supportive and proud dad. He wants to go to pride with all the batkids, carrying all their flags. He wants to be a good ally and he's not sure how he should show his support them best. Luckily for him he has both Selina and Kate to help him by giving him some tips.

Sigh, no shit, they really be calling me disgusting for seeing no problem with shipping people in a found family, who are not even related by blood lol. I'll check myself when the writers make them siblings from the same biological parents or biological parent (half-siblings), which simply means if only they're strictly related at birth. If not, it's not incest, from a logical perspective.
They have barely met or lived together from youth, they literally meet a few years later after meeting Bruce/Batman as teens/young adults so it just doesn't make sense to me if that's how a family dynamic works, it’s weird because humans are creatures of belonging, they need to feel a sense of communication and interaction in long term to actually form a familial bond, and in this case, the batfolks don’t have that kind of interactions. Imagine you're 18 something, then on one beautiful day, some 22 year-old came into your house declaring that now you two will be siblings, you don't know him, he doesn't know you either, are you supposed to act like you've been with him your entire life just because you're now siblings and not some older guy who just came into your life 20 minutes ago, whom you have no idea existed until you see him? To gain a familial bond, it really doesn't work like that, you’re in with people you don’t know until your late teens and suddenly you have to treat them like you’ve been together with them your whole life just because someone decided to adopt you out of thin air? Where is the work? Where is the built up familial bonds? I see none because! They just don’t interact with each other that much in the comics, and I started going into the fandom from the comic books, not from ao3, wfa (i don’t hate the webtoon but it should not be used as the core reference for how the batfam really act towards each other, it’s too disneyfy and idealistic, which might have or not have happened in the actual long lines of the official comics) or other fanon stuff so before I get to see them interacting like a functional family in the fandom, I’ve seen them bashing each other in the head and laughing about Bludhaven being blown up with Dick potentially being a collateral victim, that’s not how you’d react to your brother or any other family member getting caught up in an accident. And just so you know, I'm also not invalidating step-siblings who see each other as families, like-wise to adopted siblings that see their adopted siblings as a real family, or childhood friends who see their friend's family as a family, good for you guys, actually. I'm only speaking strictly in the case of the bat family so it won't bring up any other newly formed issues that I'm a family hater/pro incest advocater because I'm not. For now, check the comics from the start to the latest, so what if they're legally adopted, it's been removed then retconned to that then removed then retconned over and over again in the dc comic verse? Many writers still write them with romantic chemistries and that shouldn't be something to hate on about, people can have their own takes on fictional things. Shocking!? I know. I personally have stated above and before this over and over again that I like their dynamics to be similar to Brothers in Blood in Nightwings #2021 annual (which btw is similar to this phrase "Huynh đệ kết nghĩa" in Vietnamese, which literally means sworn brothers, which again refers to two men who are not related by blood but finding kinship in each other's company that they decide to become oath brothers - and strictly not in an incestous way but in a literal 'damn now you're my brother in arms' kind of way). Back to the main topic, many DC writers have written them together, many fandom writers have, many artists have drawn them together in a shippy kind of way, it's not a sin so it should not be associated with the violence threats that I have seen some of you so proudly posted on your wall. Like really? Proud of wanting to inflict violence on someone who doesn't share the same ideals as you? Dictatorship, I'd say.
Now, hypotheoretically speaking, do you associate yourself with a serial killer just because you watch true crimes? Do you associate yourself with a crime lord for reading under the red hood? If none of that is true to you then the same logic is applied to people who enjoy things that you don't like. They don't associate themselves as humans with the things they enjoy (if it's really incest, which the batfam is literally 90% NOT), such as the case of Cersei and Jaime Lannister in GoT, though it got better later on in the show, we also don't talk about season 8 (not the romantic, incestous part, but you get what I'm trying to say here). Grow up and think about it. But honestly, I'm just writing this so others who might come across can read and be kind to each other, I doubt you'd even read half of this lmao, you can't even read my previous post properly without accussing me of being a pedo, so I don't expect much from your reading comprehension. But you do you.
Personally, for me, I like things that are not romantically involved within the batfamily but do I be a little bitch about it and shit on anyone who has different ideas and shippings from me? No. BUT again, this is not about me, this is about being respectful to other shippings (ship and let ship) and not give a fuck or dictate what others like just to cater to your own self-rightousness. If you hate something so much but you don't own the mentality of not giving a damn and have to rage like a siren with anger issues (I'm speaking as someone with anger issues myself) at strangers on the internet, I suggest you stay off the net and get yourself checked in for therapy really, because all of this raging is screaming mental illness (and I don't mean it in a demeaning way, I mean it in an unchecked diagnosis that one needs working on kind of way aka a concerning way) to me.
Ok, here's another piece of advice before you flip your head from understanding that Tim and Cass are NOT blood siblings and therefore not logically incestous. There's a function called "block", so you could save some time instead of ranting to someone who doesn't agree with you, you could use all that time purging all the so called 'batcest' stuff from your feed lol. Maybe you will understand that we simply dont share the same mindsets or understanding of the dynamics or cultural backgrounds (and my culture gives the hard F to incest, but it's ok as long as you are not related by blood because the core values of families are so important in our culture, we don't go around calling or claiming anything we see on the internet as a real blood bonding family. Sure a family might be used here and there for one big/small close knitted community but it doesn't share the same weight of importance as a real family that includes the work and the familial bondings that everyone in said community has to claim) 🥳 try to shit on my culture without sounding like a xenophobe, I dare you. The best counterpoint you will hypotheoretically make is calling us a bunch of close minded, regressive assholes/monkeys like many have done before and it's a fact I know I'm not wrong because you won't even bother to spend 10 minutes researching on our culture the same way you don't bother researching the interactions from the source materials that are made in the west, where I think you might be from.
I would have agreed with you if you brought up Damian but I guess nah lol, also anon ask harassment is just people who find joy in annoying others cuz if I knew who you are, I’d give you snarkier comments than I do now so you’d drop that habit of yours of picking fights no one literally cares about.
So then your okay with shipping : tim and dick or bruce and jason because theyre not related by blood? Or dick and jason or bruce or jason and bruce? Like wtf man check yourself
Wow dude, you're better than this, why do you have to try to prove your point so badly by accussing me of supporting pedophilia when I have explitcitly stated on my pinned post that the one thing I hate the most is pedophilia? Did you not read my post carefully? I said Tim and Cass were close in age, and the fact that they met when they're teenagers, and even if Bruce had legally adopted Cass (Tim has his own family whatchu on about) doesn't make them blood siblings. And the comics themselves show that, I elaborated on everything you needed to know and after everything, you just need a reason to hate on someone you virtually don't know and to be honest, to accuse someone of being pro-pedo when the one thing they despise the most is pedophilia just to prove a point is kind of low. I stated what needed to be said and will not be replying to further anonymous asks you're giving me, it feels like a waste of time when you still don't understand what I want to say after that wall of text and still try to police what I don't agree with you into something as sick as pedophilia.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for Damian learning to admit to insecurities and trust his family and growing up from the toxicity he'd been raised with but sometimes I also just want the Batfam to completely and utterly spoil him, let him get away with stuff, anyone who even so much gets mean with him gets their life ruined by a seventeen year old with a camera and even kids who are snide gets taught a mild if embarrassing lesson by his sister and brother (idk but Cass and Duke are the ones who most give the vibes of 'will throw hands with a three year old' especially side by side), any Rouge that gets a hit in at Robin also gets broken bones with it, heroes who show even disapproval of the new Batfamily member are suddenly involved in some kind of guerrilla war they're not quite sure of the rules of or if it's even happening, and public representatives who even imply distaste for him gets crushed under Brucie's boot, like, rather than Damian self-reflecting because he'd been chewed out and he hurt someone and he realized he maybe doesn't like to be doing that his whole life and understanding that he shouldn't act so obnoxious, he gets validation because if his family, maternal and paternal, blood and adopted, all agree that he's worth loving and he deserve everything he wants, then it must mean it's true and he eventually simultaneously is mellowed out by it but also gets worse in his entitlement. Like, he's the kid who this world has been promised to and he's got the siblings to give it to him if he wants it to. Like the bonds among them are secured this way. Damian can be as horrible or nice as he wants to but regardless it won't change his family's love for him and he gets comfortable in his place and his self and he can show his love for others because wether he appears weak or strong they'll still adore him, for the simple reason that he's the resident baby sibling.
(Of course, you may insert something about him being extra paranoid and terrified of having a younger sibling himself and being replaced.
But he won't, because Barbara can tell him a Bat-computer's worth of records of all the things Dick has let Tim get away with, and things Barbara has let Cass get away with, and the things Cass and Tim let Duke get away with.
Like, there's no going around the Batfam is a found family but it can also be a toxic found family environment, but rather than them hurting each other, they just indulge and encourage not just harmful habits but also rather cruel aspects of each other because of 'if it makes them happy and they're not killing anyone then it can't be that bad' mentality even if it means cooing over your little sister because she's so cute when she looks so satisfied and proud of herself for managing to break all the bones in a rapist's body without killing him.)
I'll admit I don't spend that much time thinking about Damian especially in regards to how much I think of Tim, but also I just read something of Damian that really emphasized to me how conditional his parents' (and save for a few most of the people he's surrounded by) love for him are, and that's not a new thing and not exclusive to him, but it's really so heartbreaking for the kid and i just suddenly want all the nice things for him. I think Damian deserves that and more, you know, as the baby of the Batfam.

Oh don't forget to add the 'Lazarus Mind Control' thing that feels a bit too much like the struggle that Jean-Paul experiences when he puts on the Azrael suit.
I could talk about this all day. But first of all I am not saying that two characters cannot be similar. It would be impractical to say otherwise because people IRL can be similar. I'm saying that Jason's fanon feels like a magazine collage of other Batfam members.
[Longer discussion below] + How To Read Jason Todd for anyone who doesn't know but stumbles across this reblog and needs some guidance
Characters That Have Traits and Qualities That Fandom Has Added To Jason Todd
Helena being the original Black Sheep of the family and how she and Tim have such an interesting and very important Sibling bond. Her being the one who is an English teacher by day and vigilante by night. How a lot of her appearances in the late 90s early 2000s was of her saving children. [See the last days before No Man's Land where she saved a bus full of children, see her getting captured by a child gang and trying to help them, see her having a breakdown after watching a child die from the Clench, see how she was to find Tim!Robin's ruined uniform near where croc was and believed Tim was killed.]
See Selina in the way that she cares about smaller groups of people who don't have the resources or proper institutions to get help. How she will sometimes help Batman when needed but mostly helps herself as well. How she flips between closer to vigilante and closer to Antihero. How she leaves Gotham sometimes for a break but always comes back.
See Dick in how he was always butting heads with Bruce through the 90s and early 2000s. How he was an asshole with foot in the mouth syndrome. How he and Tim were asshole brothers who cared about one another. Dick who set up traps in his how to try and catch Tim. Dick who when Tim was going through a lot of lows called and tried to check on him.
See Jean-Paul in how Jean experienced brainwashing that was meant to turn him into an assassin and asset to The Order of Saint Duma. How he struggles with that programming all the time and how he is trying to be a better person for most of the 90s and early 2000s but experiences a lot of relapses into the brainwashing.
Then when Jason fans get mad when another character dies and is brought back? It feels so stupid because Jason wasn't the first character to die and be brought back. He wasn't the last either. [Oliver Queen, Hal Jorden, Donna Troy, Liam Harper, Stephanie Brown, Damian Wayne, Clark Kent, Barry Allen, Wally West]. Dying and being brought back is not a new concept and wasn't even a new concept when Jason was brought back.
Jason Todd Recommendations
Honestly the best thing I can recommend is for people to read Jason's post resurrection comics. Go read hid comics from before the New 52 before you start saying things. It's not that hard to find a reading list for him. [Here] is a reading list if you want to yet started.
If that link isn't working, this is the internet address
https://dailyjasontodd.carrd.co/#comics
You don't need a fancy account with any place. Just search up the comic you want to read
[Here]'s the link to a free online reading site you can use to read the first issue on the above linked readin list.
Here's another version on the link.
Though in reality if you want to know about Jason Todd you need to start with his days as Robin, so I would suggest reading his Robin stuff.
League of Comic Geeks
Here's a place that you can keep track of and log comics you have read or series you want to read.
You can make an account and go search up a character you want to read. Here I'll show how it can work with Jason Todd
Step 1: Make an Account (I'm using the mobile app to show how to work so it may look different on your brower)
Tumblr media
Step 2: This is the mobile home page. Click the bottom most right symbol of a magnifying glass or the 'search' symbol.
Tumblr media
Step 3: the base search page will look something like this. It will look different based on time of year and what comics are being read. Click the long search bar on the top and type our Jason Todd
Tumblr media
Step 4: It will look empty because Jason Todd isn't a series. Click on the Characters Subheader.
Tumblr media
Step 5: You will now see Jason Todd the full character, along with identity he uses and other different universe versions. The canon timeline is Earth-0. Click that Jason Todd.
Tumblr media
Step 6: His character page will show up. You are under the Overview portion. If you want to see the comics Jason is in click Titles subheader or the Timeline subheader
Tumblr media
Step 7: option 1: The Titles will show you the series Titles he has been in by defending order of appearances.
Tumblr media
Step 7: option 2: Timeline will show you the publishing chronological order [not in universe cronology] of Jason Todd's appearances in comic books. This includes where he was a main, support, or cameo character. You can scroll down or click the number on the right side with a downward facing arrow [31 on 2024] to close that years section of appearances.
Tumblr media
This is the bottom of the list. Batman (1940-2011) #357 is pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths so it will be slightly different. Still a good read theough..
Alternatively if you only want to read for a specific version of appearances go back to the overview page.
Tumblr media
And click the icon with for example Red Hood. This will only show you comics where Jason Todd appeared as a Main, Supporting or Cameo character under the moniker of 'The Red Hood'. Once in the new overview page click the timeline again and scroll.
Tumblr media
This is what the bottom of that page looks like. You can start there if you really want to.
Anyway, you cannot change the source material without first understanding the source material. Yes I am aware I haven't read all of Jason's comics. It is an ongoing task but I have done a lot of search and listened to audio readings of a lot of his comics.
I'm not trying to start a fight but I do find it genuinely funny that fanon Jason is the amalgamation of canon Helena, Selina, Dick, a little of Damian's league of assassins upbringing sprinkled over the top and v little canon Jason, but at the same time fanon Jason enjoyers will turn around and get mad when someone writes a story where Tim dies and comes back to life. and like even if it WAS stealing from Jason's character and not a prominent trope in zee genre it's hard to get mad about theft while you are also wearing a bandana and holding a sack with a comically large dollar sign printed on it sir 😂
