Morse and drinking in the 70s...
Long....because I can't write short. And obviously, a lot of you will already know this stuff...
Just want to take a moment to talk about alcohol and alcoholism in the context of the early 1970s and remind folks of how totally and completely different it is from how we see it today.
Drunk driving had not been outlawed in most countries. Not only that, it was widely regarding as funny—funny enough to be used as a regular “gag” in movies. Problem drinking was also seen as funny. There were regular cartoon strips about it. The “drunk” was a funny stock character in all sorts of plays and movies.
Alcohol was ubiquitous. We’re not just talking liquid lunches. We’re talking drinking at work, while you work—just as you see in Endeavour. Think about that for a second.
And politely saying no wasn’t something you did without social consequences. It wasn’t just seen as a personal preference. Unless you had a specific, acceptable reason, turning down a drink was often seen as stand-offish and judgmental or as a social snub. Teetotalism was regarded as rather naive and ridiculous—not something any man or woman of the world would embrace.
In the early 1970s, there was no widespread understanding of alcoholism as a disease. It was still seen very much as the consequence of personal weakness—still a matter of “If you cared enough or tried hard enough, you wouldn’t do this so it must be a character flaw.”
Plus, most people, “normal” people don’t have problems with alcohol, so if you do then there’s something abnormal and defective about you—most likely something you brought upon yourself.
And as a “personal weakness” and a “defect,” the shame around it was profound and the secrecy matched. If someone went away for treatment, it was very much akin to an unwed mother going off to have her baby and then returning without the child. You never spoke of it. You pretended that it had never happened.
If you were a kind person, you also didn’t go out of your way to parade babies in front of her or talk constantly about children when she was with you. But refer to it directly? Never. Ask for help? Never. It was always something to be hidden. Everyone did their best to forget that it had ever happened and saw this as the "kindest" thing to do.
When Morse returns from his “cure,” it would simply be assumed that everyone would pretend that nothing unusual has happened. Why he’s just been off on a tour of the West Country and nothing else! Hope you had a lovely time! That sort of polite fiction was exactly what he would have expected upon his return. Anything more direct—at least in a public setting—would have been shocking to him and everyone else.
Where things break down, however, is in the more personal interactions. His relationship with Thursday is such that they can at least broach the topic of drinking. When they do, my impression is that Thursday is well-aware that Morse not “cured.” However, in the context of the time, saying this would be akin to saying, "You failed," because there was no disease model of alcholism in widespread use. You went to be cured and it worked or it didn't.
However, I'd also add that Thursday is almost to the breaking point with the cumulative strain he is under. He can’t cope with the “burden” of Morse being in a precarious state and he knows it. He feels desperately guilty about that—as well as about other things like Strange and Joan or about life having moved on so much while Morse was gone—and so he just shuts down.
Shutting down is Thursday’s go-to strategy when he’s overwhelmed. We’ve seen him do it many times before. And part of that for him, is that he pretends that the people around him are ok—even if they are anything but ok. Not surprisingly, he does it the most with the people he has the closest emotional ties with—Win, Joan, Sam, and Morse.
So the only way that Thursday can cope is by having Morse be perfectly fine. Conveniently, his preferred coping strategy fits exactly with his society's expectations about how alcoholism works. If Morse is "cured," you don’t need to worry about sparing him the constant offers of alcohol in the same way that the young unwed mother might hope to be spared babies. You certainly wouldn’t embarrass him (especially after he’s been through the humiliation of rehab) by drawing attention in any way to a possible to the idea that he still has a problem.
And finally, a last note on time context. The scene in the pub where Morse has that first drink after finding out that Joan is marrying Jim is utterly heartbreaking for so many reasons. One of those reasons, however, is that we know it’s the first drink—and that the first drink leads to the second, and so on and so forth. Then Morse says to Thursday, “They said the, the odd beer, the odd shot, does no harm…"Everything in moderation," they said,” and we automatically assume he’s lying.
I’m fairly sure that those scenes were meant to be interpreted through our modern viewpoint. However, it’s worth noting that again, the model of alcoholism in the 1970s was nothing like what we have today. The idea that someone with a drinking problem/addictions needs to abstain entirely was not even close to universal at that point. It’s perfectly possible that the advice Morse is quoting is the advice he received!
#itv endeavour#endeavour morse#shaun evans#fred thursday#endeavour: prelude#thursday thursday#sort of#but mostly meta about alcohol in endeavour and the 70s

For the WIP prompt, please share anything you want for "cheer up, london!" (sent this as a reply first, whoops)
omg hi okay so!! sorry this took so long to get round to
this particular WIP is my Quite Old "what if morse and thursday were police during the corruption and fear of the gang violence in London that was coming to a head during the 1960s". basically running more on vibes than plot as per usual but thursday is a recently divorced man barely hanging onto decency and slowly collating evidence on the mob they're facing, but it's something similar to the S6 situation -- he's so very close to giving in. until morse comes along that is. morse, who's been through multiple DIs in a year and has finally been dumped on thursday in nowhere, whitechapel, as a sergeant.
the rest is, as they say, history. morse's commitment to justice sparking whatever was left of thursday's, and they find they can trust each other in a place of corruption and violence: morse keeps getting himself nearly killed, thursday not much better, and it's that flavour of Ride Or Die that they had in neverland. ofc it spirals into a desperate clutch at each other in a dark back alley and then nights spent together in one or the other's shitty bachelor flat. a happy ending though for once. a win for the codependency!!
I've not written an enormous amount of it but it is one I'd like to finish (after the S8 work), so here are some draft excerpts (not strictly following on from each other but in chronological order) under the cut:
I hope it catches your interest at least :]

I have received multiple asks regarding my thoughts on the Side Order trailer, and I might do one of those long as fuck ramble posts I've been doing if/when I have time to go over it frame by frame, but for now...
WHERE THE FUCK IS AGENT 4????????
Also Dedf1sh has a canon English-translation name now, so that's neat. I'm sure folks can easily figure out that 'acht' is German for eight, but it took me a second to realize why they decided to go with German - she's clearly inspired by Dedmau5, and 'maus' is German for... mouse. I'd imagine they went with German to reinforce that reference.
Still have no idea if Side Order is gonna have any bearing on HE in any major way, though. I was thinking about using Dedf1sh/Acht at a future point of the story - same with Agent 8 - but now I'm a little unsure. Like I've said, I do wanna keep HE as close to canon as possible for at least a while (current forecast says Act IV is when the gloves will come off, subject to change ofc), and it's still not exactly clear when exactly Side Order takes place (let alone what the fuck is even happening), so I'm a little torn between playing it safe and keeping them both uninvolved for the time being or just saying "fuck it" and using them as I had planned originally.
Oh yeah, polling is a thing that exists. Whatever winds up winning here won't decide it for certain as I will always have the final say, but it's a neat way to see what y'all think.
If you've got further input you wanna add with your decision here, feel free to elaborate in an ask or a reblog or morse code transmission or w/e.
#The Adjudicator has spoken.#justice for agent 4#this poll regarding characters is slightly more time sensitive for agent 8 than it is for acht#but also why do i have a feeling nintendo is gonna pull some horsepiss like#“ah you see this is not the eight from octo expansion but a different octoling”#“who is also called eight”#they did that with agent 3 so like#who knows really

HI HELLO I MISSED INCORRECT QUOTES DAY SO IM THROWING IN SOME EXTRAS
Roman: Person of interest is almost too flattering.
Roman: Like if a cop knocked on my door and said “A man has been murdered in your building and you are a person of interest,” I’d be like, “oOh, moi?? do go on!!”
Logan: *gently taps table *
Roman: *taps back*
Patton: What are they doing?
Virgil: Morse code.
Logan: *aggressively taps table*
Roman: YOU TAKE THAT BACK
Patton: You kidnapped Janus? That’s illegal!
Roman: But, Patton, what’s more illegal? Briefly inconveniencing Janus, or him destroying Thomas’s mental health?
Patton: KIDNAPPING JANUS, ROMAN!
Logan: Patton, listen. No matter what I think of you right now, these guys are counting on you! You inspire them!
Patton: To kidnap people?!
Logan: To work together.
Patton: TO KIDNAP PEOPLE??
Virgil: Patton, we all agreed a half snake side is not a people.
Logan: You know not every problem can be solved with a sword.
Roman: That’s why I carry two swords.
Janus: YOU LYING CHEATING PIECE OF SHIT!!
Roman: OH YEAH??? YOU’RE THE ONE THAT THINKS HE CAN GET AWAY WITH EVERYTHING! WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD!!
Janus: I’M LEAVING YOU, AND I’M TAKING THE KIDS!
Virgil: *picking up the monopoly board* I think we’re gonna stop playing now.
Remus, writing in his diary with a glitter gel pen: Im losing my sense of humanity. Nothing matters. God is dead. There’s blood on my hands.
Janus: Standing next to sunflowers always makes me feel weak. Like, “look at this fucking flower. This flower is taller than me. This plant is winning and i’m losing.”
Virgil: Wow. You are NOT ready to hear about trees.
Virgil: What are you doing here?!
Remus: I could ask you the same question!
Virgil: This is my house, I live here.
Remus: I could ask you a different question.
Patton: I can be your partner for the next race.
Roman: Sorry, Patton. It's a sibling race.
Remus: Maybe there's a contest for lonely children after this.
Roman: It's only children, Remus. A lonely child is what you're gonna be when I sell you!
Patton: For self defense reasons, I'm going to pretend to be a burglar and you guys have to act wisely.
Remus, Virgil, & Janus: Okay.
Patton: If you don't want to die, give me all your money.
Remus: Bold of you to assume I have money.
Virgil: Bold of you to assume I don't want to die.
Janus: Bold of you to assume I can die.
Logan: The odds of this happening by coincidence are vanishingly small.
Patton: I would say infinitesimally.
Roman: And I'd say teenily-weenily. We all know words.
Remus: Remember, when burying a body, make sure to cover it with endangered plants so it’s illegal to dig up!
Janus: Make sure to follow me for more gardening tips!

Okay, so when I said I was afraid for the characters that we don't see in Morse, I didn't mean that Endeavour should do what it did instead.
Since it's still relatively new, I'm putting all my thoughts and yells of anguish below the cut, as well as tagging this for spoilers.
But also, do please come yell with me in my messages if you want, I am having a lot of feelings about this episode.
I was really afraid that they were going to kill off Thursday and/or Bright and they did not but THURSDAY MURDERING SOMEONE IS NOT BETTER.
Look it was an excellent episode and I'm going to have to rewatch it soon now that I know the horrid truth, with that in mind and see where things fall.
I really thought for a while there that Thursday wasn't going to make it through the episode, especially after he had his funny turn, and to be sure I was going to be very mad if he had a heart attack and died because we don't need those parallels with Morse.
But poor Win - she does not deserve to deal with this, and I don't think they're going to tell her and on the one hand I don't want them to tell her because she's been through more than enough, but I also hate everyone keeping important secrets from her. How is Fred going to explain why they have to move, and why Morse will never call? Morse is Win's adopted son as much as he is Fred's, and she misses him in a way that I don't think Morse fully understands.
I did genuinely think there that Morse was confessing his feelings for Joan and then the scene kept going and I was all "what the heck is going on with this show" and then it was all in his head but I'm not mad about that actually, because it was a little corny in it's way but also I loved having that opportunity to see Morse bare his feelings like that in a completely believable way - that man has the worst timing on the face of the planet, so I totally believed it. I don't remember exactly what he said but it was approximately "I haven't said your name because I'm afraid I'd never be able to stop saying it" is very swoony.
Also, before this season I did not know that Morse had a kicked puppy face and this season we've seen it at least twice, but honestly that is eclipsed by the way his voice breaks when he is explaining to Thursday how he knew he did the murder. And Morse is going to carry that (and knowing what happened to Peter, which he spares Thursday) for the rest of his life and that is a horrible, horrible, burden to carry. I'm still processing all the things that Morse chose to do to protect all the Thursdays here.
Kind of loved all the extra "Did we mention Dr. DeBryn is queer, because he's definitely queer" bits, also I am now desperate for fic of him and Miss Frazil being friends and hanging out.
Look this was a very queer episode overall, the "come back to America with me" had strong queer vibes even at the same time of the painful (and made worse by the fact that Jakes doesn't know Morse AT ALL) "What's keeping you here". Oh Jakes, it's so much worse because you don't know how much pain you are reaching there.
Still not sure how I feel about Joan and Strange - kudos to him for giving her an option of an out, I believed that he really meant it. She seemed very confident when she said that that was where she wanted to be, but she has not seemed entirely confident about the marriage this season up to that point. What she said to Sam earlier is right - Strange will take care of her, he will support, he will keep her safe, but Joan and Strange were still so awkward with each other in this episode. I don't think Joan's looking for a love match, but I would have liked for them to be friends. And while Strange clearly cares about her and wants to make her happy, I'm not sure they have a lot of mutual interests. I'm not convinced they have deep conversations on any topic. I don't think it will be a bad marriage but it could be a rather limited one. But maybe they'll become friends now that they're spending more time together.
How DARE they have Anton Lesser doing Prospero's speech over the In Paradisum of Faure's Requiem and then reveal that Bright is in fact sitting by his wife's grave, reciting, and then do all the slightly hazy early season shots - it was perfect and I have no notes. It was lovely in the context of the show, it was perfect as a way to acknowledge the show's place in the Morse universe, and it was a lovely way to show the changing of the guard, as it were, to the original show and how the characters were there.
(Side note if there is anyone else in this fandom who also loves Connie Willis' Blackout/All Clear - I had an immediate thought of "Anton Lesser would make a good Sir Godfrey" when I heard the speech.
It was also lovely to see Monica and Trewlove again, there in the images. I miss them, though honestly good for Monica getting herself out of that relationship with Morse, she can definitely do better. But I wish that that hadn't meant she drifted out of the show (even though I understand why).
The rest of the ending! Where they bring back the turning into John Thaw trick, that was so beautifully and fittingly done. What an episode.
#endeavour spoilers#endeavour itv#wailing and gnashing of teeth#and also as always: this show is SO good

Let's talk about Will's playlist... just for fun!
same as with Mike's playlist the songs are born from a different context than the show, so these don't have always a perfect correspondence with the things happening in it.
This is all only my own interpretation and it's just speculation about what I think these songs could mean... the playlists were created with Netflix before the release of s2 but I believe they already knew a lot about the storylines of the other seasons and did some foreshadowing
» Songs about surviving the Upside Down / Vecna and Will defeating him
Beat the devil's tattoo - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
I thread the needle through
You beat the devil's tattoo
foreshadowing for the season two finale in which Will is using morse code to communicate with the others... kind of drumming on a hard surface with his fingers
I'm still standing - Elton John
You could never know what it's like
Your blood like winter freezes just like ice
And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you
You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use
And did you think this fool could never win?
Well, look at me, I'm a-coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know
while I'm still standing you just fade away
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did?
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
And I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
Afraid - The Neighbourhood
When I wake up, I'm afraid somebody else might end up being me
Keep on dreaming, don't stop breathing, fight those demons, sell your soul, not your whole self
Oh, if they see it when you're sleeping, make them leave it
And I can't even see if there's hope there anymore, so
You're too mean, I don't like you
Fuck you, anyway
You make me wanna scream at the top of my lungs It hurts but, I won't fight you
Will is talking about Vecna and him possessing his body
Hold on - Alabama Shakes
Bless my heart, bless my soul.
Didn't think I'd make it to 22 years old.
There must be someone up above sayin',
"Come on, Brittany, you got to come on up.
You got to hold on
Every breath you take - The Police
Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you.
Vecna is watching Will in s2 ready to take over and use him for his plans
Under Cover of Darkness - The Strokes
I'll wait for you
Will you wait for me too?
And they sacrifice their lives
And they're lying about those odds
This song makes me think about a battle
Upside Down & Inside out - OK Go
Inside down and upside out and you can feel it
Don't stop, can't stop, it's like an airplane going down
I wish I had said the things you thought that I had said
Gravity's just a habit that you're pretty sure you can break
So when you met the new you
Were you scared, were you cold, were you kind?
Yeah when you met the new you, did someone die inside?
foreshadowing Will being possessed by the Mindflayer
Sympathy for the devil - Rolling stones
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
At this point I think this partly Vecna's playlist too... no, seriously 💀
Stayin alive - Bee gees
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Icky Thump - The White Stripes
Icky thump, handcuffed to a bunk
Robbed blind
Looked around
And there was nobody else
I won't back down - Tom Petty
Well, I won't back down
No I won't back down
You could stand me up at the gates of Hell
But I won't back down
No I'll stand my ground
Won't be turned around
And I'll keep this world from draggin' me down
Slug song - The Clean
I said don't
Don't ever change
And misarrange your mind
Run for cover - The Killers
Run for cover
Run while you can, baby, don't look back
You gotta run for cover
Don't be afraid of the fear, that's a played out trap, man
You know you're not the only one
And don't look back, just run for cover
Will hiding from the Mindflayer
Out of breath - Frank Turner
When you meet death
Be out of breath
And say you're pleased to see him
In fact you're waiting for this meeting
And well frankly his timekeeping leaves a lot to be desired
So tell that hooded huckster that he's fired
Cold Cold Cold - Cage the Elephant
Doctor, look into my eyes
I've been breathing air, but there's no sign of life
Doctor, the problem's in my chest
My heart feels cold as ice, but it's anybody's guess
Doctor, can you help me? 'Cause I don't feel right
Better make it fast before I change my mind
Doctor, can you help me? 'Cause I don't feel right
Better make it fast before I change my mind
Another one bites the dust - Queen
There are plenty of ways that you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him, you can cheat him
You can treat him bad and leave him when he's down, yeah
But I'm ready, yes, I'm ready for you
I'm standing on my own two feet
Drawing board - George Erza
The meaning of this song is about someone trying to kill someone else so I think it fits better as a Vecna song than a love one lmao
Carry on my wayward son - Kansas
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
this song is about a narcissistic guy that was in the band and was "special" until he ruined himself because of his big ego... I think it could fit with Vecna and if they knew about Henry since the start they knew that the Mindflayer was a narcissistic serial killer type
Come a little closer - Cage the elephant
Time shakes, found you at the water
At first you were my father
Now I love you like a brother
Earthquakes shake the dust behind you
This world, at times will blind you
Still, I know I'll see you there
Come a little closer, then you'll see
Things aren't always what they seem to be
(Don’t Fear) The Reaper - Blue Öyster Cult
This song is about accepting that death is natural and welcoming it, it makes me think about the fact that Will was ready to sacrifice himself and wanted to close the gate in season two
Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band
» Songs about Will feeling different / not conforming
Walk on the wild side - Lou Reed
Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, "Hey, babe,
Take a walk on the wild side."
Radio, Radio - Elvis Costello & The Attractions
I wanna bite the hand that feeds me.
I wanna bite that hand so badly.
I want to make them wish they'd never seen me.
Afraid of everyone - The National
I'm afraid of everyone, I'm afraid of everyone
Lay the young blue bodies with the old red bodies
I'm afraid of everyone, I'm afraid of everyone
With my kid on my shoulders I try
Not to hurt anybody I like
My generation - The Who
People try to put us down
Just because we get around
Things they do look awful cold
Yeah, I hope I die before I get old
Don't stop believin' - Journey
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Another brick in the wall - Pink Floyd
We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
Creature comfort - Arcade Fire
Some boys hate themselves
Spend their lives resenting their fathers
...
We're the bones under your feet
The white lie of American prosperity
We wanna dance but we can't feel the beat
I'm a liar, don't doubt my sincerity
Just make it painless
Free Fallin - Tom Petty
Now all the vampires walkin' through the valley
Move west down Ventura boulevard
And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows
And the good girls are home with broken hearts
Now I'm free
Breathe (in the air) - Pink Floyd
Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave but don't leave me
Look around and choose your own ground
» Songs about Will being in love with Mike:
Should I stay or should I go? - The Clash
Darlin' you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine
I'll be here 'til the end of time
So you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
I can't hear you - The Dead Weather
I'm gonna teach you
And keep you for myself
I'm gonna take you by the hand
I'm gonna walk you to my house
So I can hear you
Stuck in the middle with you - Stealers Wheel
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
And I'm wondering what it is I should do
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place
Don’t you forget about me - Simple Minds
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving everything inside and out and
Love's strange, so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby
Don't you, forget about me
Searching the blue - The Arcs
War is over now
I feel my mind returning
Carried on a cloud
Every nerve was burning over you
I never had a need at all for anyone
Anyone other than you
But now that's through
Sold fool
We're prayin' to get it fast
And we pray it's in the past
Is anything we do, ever gonna last?
Couldn't I have a clue?
Searchin' the blue
Under pressure - Queen & David Bowie
It's the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends screaming
"Let me out!"
Tomorrow gets me higher, higher, high!
Pressure on people, people on streets
Turned away from it all like a blind man
Sat on a fence, but it don't work
Keep coming up with love, but it's so slashed and torn
Why, why, why!?
Love, love, love, love, love
Insanity laughs under pressure
We're breaking
Can't we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can't we give love that one more chance?
Livin' on a prayer - Bon Jovi
We've gotta hold on to what we've got
It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love we'll give it a shot
Start me up - The Rolling Stones
If you start me up
If you start me up I'll never stop
This song continues in a series of sexual innuendos so I guess it could be about puberty in the context of the show
Dark Days - Local Natives
Dark days in the summer
In the rain the water's fine
It was wild combination
Either that or right down the line
Foreshadowing the season 3 fight?
Howlin for you - The Black Keys
I must admit
I can't explain
Any of these thoughts racing
Through my brain
It's true
Baby I'm howlin' for you
Echo home - The Kills
And it's a long long long long drop
From the rocks to the pearls, we got so lost
We got so lost, we got so lost
For so long, for so long, so long
For so long, oh
Maybe you went out of your mind
You can lose it all if you wanna
Maybe you went out of mine
It's been so long
You can live your own dear life
And you can lose it all if you wanna
But I can't let you out of mine
It's Up To You Now - The Black keys
You wanted to love, but you didn't know how
That's okay, it's up to you now
It got so bad to where I wouldn't allow
But no more, it's up to you now
Let you go so you could go...
Go to town
It's up to you now
This song is about a divorce, the singer let go of his former lover that changed for the worst and lost their friends after the divorce... makes me think about s3 Mike
How you like me now - The Heavy
Now there was a time
When you loved me so
I couldn't do wrong
...
Remember the time when I eat you up
Yeah I was a lie that you can't give up.
If I was to cheat
Oh no, would you see right through me?
If I sing a sad sad sad sad song
Would you give it to me? Would you?
So how you like me now?
Does that make you love me baby?
Will Byers in his petty era... Mike WAKE THE FUCK UP
Blue veins - The raconteurs
And I know you won't deceive me
Like the rest
and there's nothing you need to explain
You always were the first one to believe me
When I said to you girl, I think it's gonna rain
But I could be wrong
Yeah, but all of these things
All these things
They're all truly nice but ain't nothing
Ain't nothing compared to the love
That's running through your little blue veins
Gooey - Glass animals
Heroes - David Bowie
Breakdown - Tom Petty
It's alright if you love me
It's alright if you don't
I'm not afraid of you running away
Honey, I get the feeling, you won't
There is no sense in pretending
Your eyes give you away
Something inside you is feeling like I do
We've said all there is to say
Just What I Needed - The Cars
I don't mind you comin' here
And wastin' all my time
'Cause when you're standin' oh so near
I kinda lose my mind

Namjoon:
The Grammy Sessions
18+ smut part of The Studio Sessions
It's not a Grammy award but I hope it's a little distraction for you all until the performance. Written for @jungkookbabyyyy and @etherealxjiminx thanks for the love 💜 I hope you like it.
"You all look so handsome."
Gushing over the five men in front of you was easily one of your favorite pastimes.
"You need to be out of here in 5 minutes, where's Jin and Joon?"
"I'm here," Jin walked in tucking his arm around your waist. "But there's a little issue with Namjoon," he whispered not so softly in your ear. Everyone looked at each other nervously.
"What the hell does that mean?" Yoongi vocalized what everyone was thinking.
"It means he's a little freaked out. I've never seen him like this." Jin was usually Namjoon's support and if he was saying it, it wasn't good.
Jimin pulled out his phone, "Should we call Sejin Hyung?"
All eyes turned to you, waiting. "Why do you think I know the answer?"
"You always know what to do Noona, you take better care of us than anyone." Jungkook flattered while looking worried.
You looked to your boyfriend, "He's not wrong," Yoongi shrugged.
The wheels turned in your head as you tried to formulate a game plan.
The doorbell rang, "The cars here, what are we going to do?"
You looked them over analyzing who would be your best accomplice. "Jimin put your phone away, i'm going to handle this."
You tried hard to sound confident. "You're going to stay with me. Everyone else go get in the car. If we're late, you're going to have to do press alone."
The looks of terror that befell them made you sigh. "Seriously? You all speak perfectly fine English. Stop being such cowards and use it." You kissed their cheeks one by one as they filed out. Jungkook was last.
"You've got this baby, I promise. Your English is so good now, you can do it."
"Do whatever it takes Noona, just get him there."
"So why am I here? What exactly is my role in all this?"
You placed your hands on his shoulders and looked him dead in the eyes. "I'm gonna need you to drive."
"That's it? I could be drinking free champagne at the virtual pre show but instead I have to be the chauffeur?"
"I'm sorry but Guk or Jin would be messy, we've gotten too close and they'd be hurt having to watch."
"Watch what?"
"Me fucking Joon in front of them. God Jimin, keep up we don't have much time."
He stood puzzled.
"Taehyungs a pervert and he'd get too turned on and try to make it about himself. There's no way Joon would fuck me in front of Yoongi and Hobi is just a shit driver."
He didn't even bat an eye. "So your plan is to bribe him with sex?"
"Can you think of a better option because I didn't see you suggesting anything."
He grabbed the keys from their hook and shrugged, "I guess I'll be waiting in the car."
"Joon?" You knocked lightly on his door, turning the handle before he could answer.
He was in his own world pacing the room as if he was lost in thought.
"Hey sweetheart." You startled him.
"You know you can't skip this right?" He sat down onto the edge of the bed with his head in his hands nodding. "Do you want to tell me what's going on?"
Kneeling in front of him you pulled his hands away from his face. He looked tired.
"What if we don't win?"
"Joon what's really going on? You never worry about things like this."
"This is our ultimate goal, everyone knows. There's so much riding on this and it's all on my shoulders as the leader."
He began pacing again. "If we lose I'm the one who has to tell everyone it's okay, i'm the one who has to calm the fans and I'm the one who has to console the members."
"But what if you win and you're worrying about this for nothing?"
"Thats it though, the one thing nobody's thinking about. If we win tonight we've reached our highest goal, where do we go from there?"
"Namjoon," you couldn't help but smile in fondness, "you think too much."
Wrapping your arms around him you gave him a squeeze. "Shut your head off and try to live in the moment for once."
He kissed your forehead, "I wish you could come tonight."
"Well your car already left so you've got me until we get there."
You picked up his jacket and flung it at him. "Now let's go before you miss anything."
He went to open the passenger door but you pushed it closed. "Don't worry Jimin's got this under control. You're going to ride in the back with me and relax."
His hand was clammy and he kept squeezing yours like morse code.
"What are you doing?" His eyes were clamped tightly shut and his lips were moving but no sound was coming out.
"I'm practicing my speech in case we win. I'm sorry I just can't make my brain stop."
"So if you can't shut it off…" You let go of his hand and palmed him over his pants. "We'll just have to find a way to distract it."
He looked at the front seat towards Jimin.
"Don't worry about him. He's going to keep his eyes on the road and make sure we get there on time."
He was growing firmer with every stroke, straining against the fabric that held him in. "Doesn't that feel better already?"
He smiled with a nod.
"I just want you to sit back and enjoy the ride."
Sliding to your knees in the back seat you carefully undid his zipper. Gently lifting his semi hard dick out of his underwear you leaned in for a suck.
"You have the nicest cock Joon." It twitched at your flattery.
He wrapped his hand into your hair and pushed you closer to his swollen member. You could feel him relaxing under your touch.
"Suck it for me."
Wrapping your lips around him you embraced his shaft with your suctioned movements. Wet lips worked him in and out of your throat while your other hand burrowed around his balls squeezing them gently. Small sighs escaped him, the sound of tension leaving his body.
"What are you thinking about?" You licked the head of his cock.
"How good your mouth feels."
"Umm," you hummed. "If you're still thinking I'm not doing good enough."
You sat up and leaned against your side of the door spreading your legs wide open you fully exposed yourself.
"You're really not wearing anything under there?"
"I wasn't planning on leaving the house." You pulled the oversize sweater you were wearing as a dress over your head.
"I was just going to stretch out on the big couch and watch you perform." You dipped your finger into yourself and his jaw dropped.
"I figured I'd be so turned on and none of you would be there to satisfy me so I'd have to take care of myself." You grinned sinfully, "Undergarments just get in the way."
Catching Jimin watching in the rearview, you circled your clit, teasing the little bud for your audience. He shifted in his seat while adjusting his hard on, "Eyes on the road please driver."
Namjoon reached forward, wanting to explore you like your own fingers were. "Go ahead, put in."
His index finger slid in beside yours and he slowly pumped it in and out matching your movements. "You're so fucking sexy."
"I want you to fuck me Joon, my pussy wants more."
He pulled his finger out and you grabbed his hand, holding it still.
"We should tip the chauffeur, give him a little sample don't you think?"
Namjoon was hesitant, unsure, until a soft, "please, let me taste her," came from the front seat.
Namjoon reached around the headrest and he held his finger out. Jimin's plush lips latched on greedily sucking it clean, running his tongue around the tip for good measure. "You taste so fucking good Noona."
Eyes totally glassed over, Namjoon was desperate for satisfaction.
"What are you thinking about now?" You bit your lip.
"Pounding that pussy into the car seat until you can't walk anymore."
"Yes please." You used your legs to pull him in closer, "get over here and fuck me."
He slid into your wetness with ease, your excited pussy drenched in anticipation for his meaty cock. His body had you pressed into the leather seat while Jimin sat staring at his ass pumping furiously into you.
Catching his eye and holding contact you smiled and moaned louder. You wanted him to have to sit there, horny, counting down the minutes until he could find a release. Knowing he'd be thinking of ways to punish you for putting him through this the entire show made you even wetter.
Wrapping Namjoon tightly in your thighs you whispered, "Cum in me Joonie please, I want you dripping out of me all night."
Ramming himself into you with a newfound energy the car shook as he shot his load deep inside you and collapsed.
"Namjoon baby, what are you thinking about?"
He started laughing from where he was tucked into your neck, the vibrations tickling, making you squirm under him.
"Absolutely fucking nothing."
With Namjoon safely delivered you turned your attention to Jimin.
"Why aren't you getting out of the car? You're already so late."
He looked at you in the rearview mirror, "Don't smile at me and pretend that wasn't intentional. I need a minute, I can't exactly walk in there with a boner."
You couldn't stop laughing. "My poor Mochi. I'll tell you what, I'll make it up to you when you get home."
He pushed the door open to get out but came and leaned into your unrolled window.
"Win or lose you'll be getting something later."
Walking away he grabbed his dick and winked at you.
"You'd better be waiting up for your prize."

Two of the writing asks that no one else asked
Thank you, Lou! <3
16. Tried anything new with your writing lately? (style, POV, genre, fandom?)
I've been trying to avoid feeling pressured to write grand, sweeping stories every time when I often really just have one or two key scenes I'm interested in. So I've tried my hand a couple times at the "bang it out in one sitting" kind of writing, which I think works especially well for those fill-in-the-gaps in canon oneshots like Breaking Silence. I also went back to my fic writer roots recently and wrote some straight-up crack (The Scarf), which was a real delight. Also, I haven't written first-person POV in a long time, but it fit well for (If You Make It Out Alive) Hold That Bloody Head Up High, given that that's how the series is told, and it gave me room to really explore Alina's conflicted feelings about the Darkling, her complicity in her own trauma, and the siren song of power.
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.
There is so much stuff behind the scenes of Those Binary Stars that I doubt I'll ever get to write! For instance
There's this whole conflict I had envisioned for Thursday and Sam's wife, Anke. Anke is German, and we know from canon that Thursday still harbors some prejudice after his time in the war, so I have bits of this scene where Thursday harrumphs about Sam's engagement to "some Eva Braun type," and gets a well-deserved snapback from Win and Joan. I think it would take much more characterization for the wider Thursday family than I really have the desire to get into for this fic, though, and it's not like I want to throw in random conflict that doesn't have enough opportunity to be resolved and lead to growth. (If memory serves, we also know that Thursday speaks some German, so it would be sweet to see it go from that tension to Thursday bonding with Anke over beautiful landscapes they've both seen and using some German vocab with baby Albert.)
Similarly, there was some behind-the-scenes drama with Gwen and the wedding that I just didn't want to get into writing all the way, but there are snippets I have saved somewhere, I'm sure. There's a half-written conversation between Joan and Joyce that would have taken place shortly thereafter, too. I've also got some stuff I'd love to write one day about Tony and Strange meeting at the wedding (and quite a few Tony side adventures I may reference later), if the mood strikes.
There was also some stuff I had planned about Morse being supportive while Joan finished her night classes, that would have happened pretty early on in the series.
I have this one scene I am DETERMINED to squeeze in somehow, about Morse having some kind of age crisis on Joan's birthday and she jokes about having a thing for older men. My notes for said scene include this glorious bit, clearly superbly phrased and so in character (Joan first, then Morse's reply): "Isn't it supposed to be me having the crisis?" "I've always been the dramatic ho in this relationship and you know it"

This is the Fred Thursday Endeavour prequel I dream about...
Sure 1960s Oxford had a lot to work with, but it’s got nothing on post-war London.
Picture it: The whole country is in the midst of social upheaval. Men are returning home after years away. They’re dealing with massive trauma and having difficulty readjusting to civilian life. Their families have spent years learning to live without them. The reunions don’t always go well.
Constant shortages have led to thriving black markets and a rise in organized crime. A huge influx of working-age men leaves many unemployed and vulnerable to the worst temptations.
Neighborhoods, especially in the East End, are still littered with the rubble of the Blitz. Evidence of destruction is a daily fact of life and death is still a presence. Children playing in the ruins encounter unexploded ordnance on a tragically regular basis.
Into all of this walks a young Fred Thursday....
As a soldier he saw brutal action in North Africa and worked with the partisans in Italy. He had a passionate affair with a woman he now believes to be dead. The rest of his wartime service remains a mystery to us.
Now he’s back near where he grew up—one of three brothers in Mile End. Billy didn’t make it back from the war. Charlie is now running the family’s warehouse business—and dating some girl named Paulette.
He’s been reunited with his wife Win (he doesn’t tell her about the affair) and is just learning what it’s like to be a father to Joan. The three of them are living with Win’s parents over the ironmongers and it’s not easy rubbing along together, not with so many people in tight quarters.
Fred is trying readjust to civilian life, making the shift from soldier to the policeman he once was. The lines blur easily in the brutal world of the East End but Sergeant Vimes, his governor at Cable Street, does his best to keep him on the straight and narrow.
Those are just the basics of Fred's story from canon! I look at it and ideas for episodes just start spinning out in my head. It would be such an amazing series!
And then...
Eventually Fred moves up, takes young Mickey Carter under his wing—and makes the mistake of going after Vic Kasper. When Carter gets himself killed and is then falsely accused of having been on the take, Fred has to get his family out. He takes Win, Joan, and now Sam, and leaves everything and everyone they’ve ever known.
Oxford is a whole new world. The kids have never seen so much green. The house is bigger than they ever could have imagined. His new boss, DCS Crisp, seems nice enough...
Ahh! If I weren't horrible at imagining casting I'd already have a list!
And then I think, maybe the whole thing’s got a framing device. Maybe the older Thursday from Endeavour, from wherever he sits in exile, is writing this all down. He’s recording these stories of what it was like when he was a young copper.
I’d like to think that in the end he puts it all together to send to Endeavour (not Morse, but specifically Endeavour) as a sort of memorandum of understanding. He's telling him, "I saw what made you into you. Now I'm telling you: here's what made me into me."
Happy Thursday Thursday!

Hello, I am sending these questions to a few selected bloggers that I like and you are one of them, I'd like to hear your answers ❤️
-What's the last thing you did that made you feel proud of yourself?
- Favourite Ship?
-If you could grant one wish to another person, who would that be?
--One personal trait you like having?
-What's a movie you feel deserves more love?
-What's a song you need people to hear at least once?
- Favourite TV show?
Hi sweetheart! Thanks for these questions, I’m touched that you’d think to send me them! 😘😘
-What's the last thing you did that made you feel proud of yourself?
Writing 6k on my fic this weekend!
- Favourite Ship?
Stucky and Evanstan. I can’t choose between my boys, but let’s just say they’re basically one and the same thing anyway :p
-If you could grant one wish to another person, who would that be?
Oooohh, well if I could grant one wish to one person, I’d research which powerful person is most likely to wish something selfless that would do most good on this planet, but I can’t tell you off the top of my head who that would be!
-One personal trait you like having?
I like that I’m am open-minded person.
-What's a movie you feel deserves more love?
You know what, let’s go with Before We Go. I was just chatting to @merlinruse about it, and we both feel like it’s an underrated movie. Okay, so it’s not perfect and won’t win awards, but it’s very honest and it’s got heart, which is something that’s often lacking from movies these days ❤
-What's a song you need people to hear at least once?
Oh no, another one I find so hard to answer 😂 There are SO many songs I absolutely adore, but okay, one that came to mind and that always gives me goosebumps is Weight of Love by The Black Keys.
- Favourite TV show?
At the moment, I don’t have a favourite TV show... But I guess and all time favourite for me would be Inspector Morse! I absolutely love old detective shows and Oxford is one of my favourite places on earth, so I always love it when I happen to catch a rerun on this one on TV (yea, I know, super exciting answer 😂)
Thanks again for these, lovely! This was nice, hope you’re doing very well 😘😘

There are moments where you wish for more moments, times when you wish for more time. And there is rarely the opportunity for either. I don't always know if I know what loss feels like. But sometimes I think I do.
I've been drowning in loss and I've been lost in these past few months. I've felt the loss of things and people and moments that I haven't lost yet, but still they feel so far away. Like I can never swim fast enough, far enough to catch them.
I miss friends who are still my friends, but in that way that I don't really know if they truly still are my friends. I miss the person who doesn't talk to me anymore, the person who doesn't search out my star anymore, the person who doesn't give me home anymore. I wish they would say those words, "I don't want to be friends with you anymore" or "we are too different now" or "this wound is too deep, even if you weren't the knife." And I find myself unable to blame them, because I don't know if I'd have the courage to end these stories. I know I don't, because maybe if I did, I'd do us a favour and end them myself.
But there are strings and ropes and cords connecting each of us, and sometimes Morse code is sent down them, and other times they just gather dust. These ones are collecting layers upon layers of dust. But I keep dusting off my end. I keep sending vibrations down and wait for eternity to hear some kind of vibration back. And hope that one day, maybe I'll be able to cut the cords myself. But the hope that they'll dust off their ends, and tug even a little bit - that is the hope that always wins out.
So I keep a little piece of my heart sectioned off, for those friends who may not be friends, the ropes strung between us tied to bells tied to flashing lights tied to smoke signals, because hope will keep you alive, even when you already feel dead in the water.
Planets don't revolve around us anymore, and I'm feeling the universe collapsing - tjz

nonanalogue: Hey, yo, do you have a second?
itsbenedict:
nonanalogue- "I should probably, like... message you more with things that aren't Dunkables (tm)
so as to lower the amount of suspicion when you see a message from me"
itsbenedict: but yeah, i've got a second
itsbenedict: what's up
nonanalogue: I wanted to know if you'd ever played Ori and the Blind Forest?
itsbenedict: i haven't, no
itsbenedict: what's it about
nonanalogue: So understand I haven't played it either, but from what I understand it's about a spirit and its spirit friend that have to save the world. Metroidvania.
nonanalogue: The reason I bring it up is because I regularly binge on The Cutting Room Floor articles.
nonanalogue: Are you familiar with TCRF?
itsbenedict: not that either, i'm afraid
itsbenedict: i'm 0 for 2
itsbenedict: which i guess is good protection if this is a pun setup
nonanalogue: Lord. Okay. That website I bet you'd be a fan of. It's a giant catalog of unused content in video games.
nonanalogue: Like, seriously, check it out later, you'll really dig it.
nonanalogue: Anyway - so I was looking through articles I hadn't read yet and ended up on Ori and the Blind Forest.
nonanalogue: And they had details on this absolutely wild cut sidequest.
nonanalogue: Do you mind if I go into more detail? Because it's something else.
itsbenedict: i'm sure it is
itsbenedict: and i'm sure none of it is made up
itsbenedict: as part of a nefarious scheme
itsbenedict: continue!
nonanalogue: So we're in agreement.
nonanalogue: Anyway, so the main characters, like I said, are these two spirits. Main character is Ori, their sidekick is Sein.
nonanalogue: Ori ends up getting shrunk to the size of a coin, which becomes useful when they have to use said coin to cross the water - like a surfboard.
nonanalogue: Sein, on the other hand, strays from their normal Spirit Flame powers and uses Spirit Fruits.
nonanalogue: Very tropical theme.
nonanalogue: So with the coin and the spirit fruits, and a third partner they pick up who's an old-school Roman type guy,
nonanalogue: they have to release a bunch of mythical creatures from the spirit world, ushering in a new era of prosperity for them.
nonanalogue: Isn't that wicked?
itsbenedict: oh god
itsbenedict: this is going to be some Pearls Before Swine tier shit
nonanalogue: I dunno what you're talking about -
itsbenedict: anyway sure it sounds wicked and extremely real
nonanalogue: it's just: the cent Ori's on, Sein (durian), centurion: centaur eon.
itsbenedict: aUGH
itsbenedict: that's
itsbenedict: that's disgusting is what that is
itsbenedict: you oughta be ashamed of yourself
nonanalogue: Way ahead of you!
nonanalogue: I figured you'd say something like that, so I got a jump on the 'feeling shame' bit.
itsbenedict: i guess you didn't need to warn me, because it telegraphed itself pretty hard
itsbenedict: you coulda sent some kind of signal- maybe morse code with a flashing ray of light
itsbenedict: should've sent a ray on
nonanalogue: Beautiful.
nonanalogue: That's so bad.
nonanalogue: You oughta be tarred and feathered for that sin. Sin tar, yon.
itsbenedict: god, fuck
itsbenedict: that gets an A for effort
itsbenedict: stamped right in the middle of the assignment
itsbenedict: center A on
nonanalogue: Yes! Yes! Excellent! The spirit of this series burns like fire! Or electricity! Cinder/ion!
itsbenedict: christ that's bad
itsbenedict: i'm gonna have to mail it to my enemies
itsbenedict: but maybe have my friend do the mailing for me so it can't be traced back to me
itsbenedict: sender: Ian
nonanalogue: Ah, for that, I'm gonna re-mail something back - one of my favorite Japanese animes.
nonanalogue: Sent: Yuri On.
nonanalogue: (ice.)
itsbenedict: ffffshut the fuck off
itsbenedict: you need to go to church
itsbenedict: and fast
itsbenedict: sinned! hurry in!
nonanalogue: *Italian chef kissing fingers gesture*
nonanalogue: Say, speaking of,
nonanalogue: you know what I hate in my Italian food?
nonanalogue: Sand, urine.
itsbenedict: ugh, is that the best you can do?
itsbenedict: boring
itsbenedict: that'll make me yawn for a REAL long time
itsbenedict: a century yawn
nonanalogue: You know what made me yawn for a real long time? I got an email from this big guy with a beard at a mall about my order for a new overhang for my porch.
nonanalogue: From Santa, re: awn.
itsbenedict: countless millennia in the future, historians found the dessicated corpse of jocey nonanalogue sitting in her chair, waiting for a response that would never come
itsbenedict: years of sunlight had baked her corpse into a mummy, preserving it for all that time
itsbenedict: she sunned her eon
nonanalogue: Did you intentionally wait a while to send that one? Kudos.
itsbenedict: no, that was a product of a simple fact
itsbenedict: that i am completely fucking out of material now
itsbenedict: and if you can counter it, i'll have to cry uncle
itsbenedict: i'm setting a five minute timer, by the way
nonanalogue: Nah, that sounds pretty sane there, eh, on top of all that.
itsbenedict: well, fuck, if you can bring in the "th", that changes the game
itsbenedict: you got some theory on how THAT shit is allowed
nonanalogue: Nah, see, it's with the regional accent. Sane dere, eh, on...
nonanalogue: But if you think I might be fishing a bit too much with that,
nonanalogue: maybe I'll use something different.
nonanalogue: A seine? Dare I? On with it!
itsbenedict: god damn it
itsbenedict: all my efforts are wasted
itsbenedict: just like on Buffy
itsbenedict: when Xander, 'e un-did everyone's hard work in that one episode
nonanalogue: I applaud that. You know the waveform of applause? I like the one that also represents constellations-
nonanalogue: Sine d'Orion.
itsbenedict: god, this is going to go on forever
itsbenedict: i'm going to have to pass it to my kids
itsbenedict: i can't be too pushy about it, though- they need to have time to relax between bouts
itsbenedict: "son, tarry on"
nonanalogue: I'm not having any kids. Just gonna spend my golden years in California. Gotta get my Santa Rey on.
itsbenedict: you already used santa, you-
itsbenedict: no, i can do this
itsbenedict: the pressure's on
itsbenedict: so much pressure
itsbenedict: so much pressure it'll compress ore into japanese currency
itsbenedict: sinter a yen
nonanalogue: You know what you'd say to someone who did that, maybe to convince them to hire someone from Myanmar? Treasurer-san, try Ohn.
nonanalogue: (Also you reused eon. :P)
itsbenedict: what, when
nonanalogue: Eon was literally the first thing I came at you with! Centaur eon.
itsbenedict: fuck
itsbenedict: okay, um
nonanalogue: So I'll call it square!
itsbenedict: this is making me feel that one feeling, that fuckin made-up word that only shows up in that one tumblr post about really specific words that are probably fake
itsbenedict: making me realize that everyone has a complex inner life that they aren't spending making godawful puns
itsbenedict: sonder-y, in this case
nonanalogue: Well done! That one didn't stink at all! The Scent Area Involved here is small.
itsbenedict: you're cutting it real close with those syllables
itsbenedict: but fuck, i'm coming to my limit
itsbenedict: my breaking point
itsbenedict: you're gonna sunder i, on this day
itsbenedict: (fuck, really good extra one that reuses a thing from earlier- "elles sont d'orion" with some bullshit hunting metaphor)
itsbenedict: (but that doesn't count)
nonanalogue: Nah, man, I wouldn't do that to you. If I'm gonna wear someone down or grind them to dust, I'd rather sander Ian.
nonanalogue: (it IS good)
itsbenedict: ALREADY USED IAN, TRY AGAIN
itsbenedict: 2:10 remaining
nonanalogue: Sander Eoin.
itsbenedict: fuck
nonanalogue: Is what I meant by that typo.
itsbenedict: that's a low blow
itsbenedict: man i can't believe that nazi guy is surprised about the warrant out for his arrest
itsbenedict: "how could the law come after ME, an innocent Aryan?"
itsbenedict: (also regardless of whether you get this next one in time, i have to go do a thing and this has taken up too much time already)
nonanalogue: Yeah, he should head over to some of the islands near Russia, where he could escape. His steps: Saunter, Ayon.
itsbenedict: (so this is for all the beansFUCK
nonanalogue: 👌
itsbenedict: fucking *ayon*
itsbenedict: ugh
itsbenedict: you win this round
itsbenedict: or more accurately, no one wins this round
nonanalogue: I accept your graceful concession and apologize for taking up so much time!
itsbenedict: there is nothing graceful about this concession
itsbenedict: it is a bitter, spiteful concession
nonanalogue: I take what I can get.
