Morgan had finally placed the last container of food into the back seats of your car, before shutting the door and getting into the car with you.

You shot her a quick “ready?” Before you started the car as a way of making sure she had everything but also just to check on her, you knew morgan was a bit nervous about meeting your family ever since the concept of her coming home with you for thanksgiving became a thing.

“Very!” she said giving you a soft smile, the same one that made you fall in love with her in the first place. It never failed to make your heart throb, washing away any worries of her nervousness about your family.

The drive was only an hour long since you grew up in Connecticut, But only about 30 minutes into the drive you noticed Morgans leg bouncing.

Looking over at her for a split second the look of nervousness flooded her face, her eyes were staring straight out at the road in front of us consumed in her thoughts.

“You okay baby?” You said moving your hand to rest on her thigh, her leg bouncing stopping momentarily.

You could feel her staring at the side of your face while you drove before she said, “just kind of nervous” she said letting out a nervous laugh.

“Well trust me they’re going to love you” you said now lightly rubbing small circles on her thigh.

She smiled her face becoming more at ease before putting her hand on yours.

After what seemed like a short 30 minutes of driving you pulled into the driveway of your childhood home.

A cozy yet small home with a sleek new porch just built in a year or so prior.

Morgan got out of the car first grabbing our food we had brought carrying it in one hand, catching up with you to hold your hand like a child clinging to her mother after she strays too far.

The door was opened by your mother and the smell of incense and food inside. You pulled your mother into a hug while morgan waited to say hello.

“Oh well you must be Morgan!” Pulling morgan into a hug immediately taking morgan by surprise.

“Oh well my little girl has told me so much about you over the phone!” She said before letting go of her.

A huge smile played across Morgans face “Im so excited to finally meet you” she said out of pure happiness.

“Well come inside you’re going to freeze, Its so amazing to see you!” your mom said pulling her inside.

“Wow what about me mom?” You said in a sarcastic tone walking behind them.

You could tell morgan was already feeling better about meeting your family.

As you walked into the house you saw your dad and older brother sitting watching football in the living room.

“F/N Your daughter and her girlfriend are here!” Your mom said.

Morgans face had that nervous look again as she inched closed to you as your dad got up to come say hello.

“Hi there sweetheart, Hows college treating you?” He said pulling you into a hug, Your father was always accepting of whatever you did. He was one of the most important people in your life. So finally being able to see him after months was refreshing.

“And you are Morgan right?” He said staring at morgan.

“Yes sir” she said with a tinge of nervousness in her voice.

Your father then shook hands with her “nice to meet you Morgan.” He said smiling before going to sit back down.

You look over at her smiling seeing the relief on her face before you lightly squeezed her arm.

Sidetracked you lead her to the living room “Oh! and this is B/N, He plays football for UMiami so he’s here for the next week or so.”

Your brother gives Morgan a smile and a small wave before returning back to the TV, he was usually a shy person to most.

You, Morgan, And your mom Cooked and talked about school and Morgans basketball career at UConn for about an hour before your mom went to set the table.

As your mom went off you and morgan were left alone in the kitchen.

“See they all love you Morgan” you smiled facing her.

Her hand snaked into yours “I guess they do don’t they” she said smiling brightly.

Act #1

"Peter! Peter!!!" You ran into his room. "The letters have arrived, the letters are here!" you held up the envelopes in your hand and showed them to him with a smile. The college admission letters had appeared in your mailbox this morning.

You and Peter had agreed to apply to the same colleges, colleges you both liked and felt comfortable at but you wanted to go to the same one, you didn't want to split up. Everyone knows that couples break up after they go to college and you didn't want that to happen to you. Your first choice was Yale, Peter wanted to study science and you wanted to study law so it was a great choice for both of you. 

You were so excited about this idea that you had already started looking for flats to live together in Connecticut.

"Yes, I just brought mine," he replied enthusiastically. "We agreed to open them at the same time." He reminded you.

"I know, that's why I came" You smiled and sat down on his bed across from him.

"Alright, which one do we open first?" he asked as he looked at the unopened envelopes in front of him.

"Harvard?" you asked. 

"Alright" He nodded.

You both tore open the envelope together and proceeded to read the letter.

You inhaled deeply as you finished reading, you hadn't been admitted. "I didn't get in" You looked at him with a fixed and somewhat sad look on your face. There were still two colleges left and Harvard wasn't your first choice after all.

"Me neither" You put the letter aside. He was frustrated that he didn't get in but, like you, he had the same thoughts. "It wasn't our first choice anyway." He took your hand in a comforting way and gave you a smile that made you smile too. "Let's open the NYU one."

"Yes" you took the envelope in your hands as he did and both of you opened it. After a moment you look at Peter with a smile. He was looking at you the same way. "Did you get in?" you asked keeping the wide smile on your lips.

"Yes! What about you?" I waited before getting more excited, I didn't want to be a jerk if you didn't get in. 

"I did get in!" You both gave each other a tight hug and laughed in unison, it was a joy to have gotten into the same university together.

"Alright, only one left" Peter looked at you with a smile. "On the count of three... 1, 2, 3!" you both opened the letter and read it.

The smile on your face, Yale was your first choice and you had got in! you couldn't be happier. You looked up to see Peter and his smile was gone. His eyes were glued to the letter, his eyes were moving from side to side rereading the words on the paper over and over again.

"Peter?" You asked worriedly and walked over to him.

"I didn't get in" He sighed and threw the letter on the floor in a ball. He snorted and looked away.

"Don't be like that" You gave him a sad look and put down your letter leaving it face down. You didn't want to tell him that you got in. "We still have NYU," you tried to comfort him.

"You got in?" He stared at you.

You didn't want to lie but you still did. Peter meant the world to you. "No, I didn't get in" you denied and sighed. "Their loss" you smiled slightly and took his hands.

"Their loss" he nodded and moved in to kiss your lips. "NYU, here we go!" he exclaimed excitedly and kissed you again as you both laughed.

You and your boyfriend decided not to move in together and instead live on campus to get the "full college experience" or at least that's what you both said, in reality it was because you didn't have enough money to afford a flat in new york, getting a job was becoming a difficult task.

"Do you need help with that?" asked Peter as he walked towards you inside the dorm. 

"Peter!" You hugged him and jumped up wrapping your legs around his waist. He held you without a problem, he was spiderman after all. "What are you doing here? I thought you would be unpacking with May" you looked into his pretty eyes.

"I was supposed to but I told him that my beautiful girlfriend was going to need my help and that I was going to be fine" He kissed the tip of your nose making you laugh.

"What a smart boy" you smiled and kissed his lips. 

"Is your partner not here yet?" He asked.

You shook your head as he set you down again "The office told me she'll be here tomorrow." 

"That means we have the room to ourselves for today?" he raised and lowered his eyebrows mischievously and pulled you to him by your waist. 

You laughed and nodded "Now? we haven't even made the bed" you continued to laugh.

"He took you in his arms and threw you on the bed to kiss you and slip his hands down your blouse. "I love college already"

Act #3

"So do you really want to join that fraternity?" you asked as you helped him pack his bag.

They had been at a frat party a week ago and Peter had gotten along really well with the frat boys -omega alpha deta-, so well that they had invited him to join them since they had a room available.

"Yep, the guys are really nice, plus, isn't that part of the college experience?" he smiled.

"Not everyone joins a fraternity in college" you sighed. "I don't know, there's something I don't like about the whole thing, Peter. I don't think they're the right people for you." you admitted.

"I'm going to be fine" He took your face in his hands after closing his suitcase. "It's going to be fine." He assured you and you nodded. 

You weren't very convinced about it but you trusted him.

"Let's go?" he held out his hand and took his suitcase in the other after hanging up a backpack.

"I'll walk with you" you took his hand and together you walked to the frat house. As soon as you entered you felt how heavy the atmosphere was, perhaps because of the amount of testosterone that abounded in this place. together you entered what you were told was the empty room and left Peter's things on the bed.

"Peter!" exclaimed a light-eyed brunet from the doorframe. "Good to have you here brother" They both walked over and hugged and gave a high five. "You have a strong grip" he laughed.

"Thanks for inviting me" Peter said as he laughed as well. "I like going to the gym" he said matter-of-factly.

"And the beauty next to you is...?" The brunet looked you up and down. His look was more of a predator eyeing his prey.

"This is y/n, my girlfriend" Peter grabbed you by the waist possessively and pulled you to him. He wanted to make the brunet understand that he wasn't available.

"Pleasure..." you replied with a slight smile waiting for him to tell you his name.

"Caleb?" A redhead appeared behind him wearing only a bra and tiny shorts. "Will you be back in bed?" she asked.

"In a second, sweetheart." Caleb spanked her and the redhead walked into the front room closing the door.

You definitely felt uncomfortable.

"Your girlfriend?" asked Peter.

"No," Caleb laughed. "She's just a girl I met a couple of days ago, you can borrow her anytime." Peter and Caleb started laughing.

You stood there watching their exchange of "jokes". You never thought you'd see Peter laughing at something like that let alone with you by his side, this was a rather disrespectful attitude that you didn't like at all.

Worst of all, it felt lonely as the beginning. You were in the first few acts of what seemed to be an overacted play and you dreaded seeing the end.

But your life was never as dramatic as a stupid play, was it?

Hello friends!

As some of you know, my mental and physical health have been rapidly declining. I have been mostly silent on why, but I can feel safe saying now that it was because I am being abused financially, verbally, and psychologically in my current home with my mom and stepdad.

I won’t bore you with details, but @pizzasteveofficial and @sablelight can easily vouch for me as they have been with me every step of the way. I’ve had an opportunity to move in with a friend in Connecticut, closer to the people who actually love me.

Almandine 🍒❤️

Almandine is a species of mineral belonging to the garnet group. The name is a corruption of alabandicus, which is the name applied by Pliny the Elder  to a stone found or worked at Alabanda, a town in caria in aisa minor. In the Mesopotamian period, it was seen as a stone of strength that held immense protective abilities. Much later, at the beginning of the Victorian era in the early 19th century, it became massively popular as a stone in jewelry, often seen paired with gold love knot jewelry, as it was seen as a symbol as reverence and love, while still holding on to some of its protective symbolism as well! It serves as the state gem of connecticut, as well as the official modern birthstone of january, like all other garnets. And Like most garnets, it also has a chance of portraying the phenomenon of Asterism! It is a great stone for those in need of strength, courage, or those wanting to attract love. Jennigje “Jennie” Van Slyke (NY state, in blue) Henry/Massachusetts (in the red) could never make me hate you ❤️ . (Elise/New Jersey in the yellow).

I made this comic back in November lol - a bit outdated for a couple things, but I think it clearly illustrates some important relationships within my nor’easter lore so 🥸 jump below the cut

Alfred is NOT raised by Arthur in this universe. The British colonies operated under salutary neglect and part of this is cause England was either A) fighting itself or B) fighting someone else. So I doubt Arthur really had much time to actually raise Alfred himself.

When working on Alfred, I think a lot about how / when we “begin” US history so we almost always begin with Plymouth colony. Hence how I ended up with puritan Alfred. Alfred began life as Plymouth colony.

Now Alfred is NOT a brother to Matt— it just doesn’t make sense for the vision I have (tl;dr- I begin with the most significant early English settlement in Canada being in Nova Scotia so I can also tie into the French presence. Basically Matt is half Acadian / half English). They are cousins and they become like brothers much later on. But they’re NOT biological brothers.

Alfred is born to human parents, but as the story goes, one day he just stopped aging and it was obvious he was something else. Similar situation for his maternal cousins, but it was always clear that Henry was Massachusetts, Rosalie was Rhode Island , & Josh was Connecticut. Alfred they always assumed was Plymouth colony, but it was always felt that role was too small for him.

Anyways Alfred was primarily raised by his older cousin Henry. Henry did his best with Alfred given that Henry was a child himself. He tried to raise him to be a good puritan. But Alfred always had his mind elsewhere and while he was well-educated, he never paid too much attention. Henry took this as he had to be harsh with Alfred so Alfred would grow up to be a functioning adult. Henry is very critical and short tempered and that’s also his parenting style- heavy on the punishment.

Henry was also a bit of a paranoid kid. I mean how could one not be in that environment ? It led to a lot these anger issues and fiery temper while he attempted to hide it behind this more educated cool facade.

Alfred trying to be a good puritan boy would heavily respect his elders as Henry was physically older than him and raising him- Henry was his elder. And Alfred was very beholden to his opinion of him and tbh Henry had the most influence on Alfred until the American revolution (Alfred’s personality is shaped by his experiences with his states).

Henry also especially did not like his then-Dutch neighbor, Jennie / New Netherlands & her siblings Elise (later New Jersey) & Will (then Beverwijck now Albany). He had to work with her, but he never liked her and was always suspicious of her especially cause she was not a puritan and also not English. Plus he didn’t like how indifferent she was to other religions and cultures in her own colony.

Jennie always enjoyed trolling Henry lol. She’s usually quite direct and a more serious businesswoman, but with Henry she quickly picked up on the fact his temper was really hiding the fact he’s scared.

Henry does deceive her into trusting him as an ally, which eventually leads her to becoming a British colony. Jennie didn’t really think Henry was going to be an actual threat to her cause she perceived him as stupid cause he was so angry all the time and also they had common enemies- Charles/ New France & his sister Denise/ eventually Quebec. Alas she learned quickly he wasn’t all that stupid.

Now I’ll keep this short for this post. Arthur wanted easier administration of his colonies so he decided to make the Dominion of New England by combining the New England colonies and New York and New Jersey. Personally, I’ve interpreted that Jennie & Henry were married. Albeit in name only ( this is akin to how royal families would “marry” kids but they weren’t expected to do anything cause like lol that’s ew). I do however think these two were expected to at least talk to each other. This went as well as you could imagine given they both highly dislike each other and that Henry has a short temper and Jennie likes to troll him (hence this comic). It’s annulled.

Anyways I’m mentioning all of this is cause while Henry is Alfred’s earliest influence, Jennie eventually becomes one of his most trusted advisors and most significant influences. However as Alfred basically followed Henry on everything as a kid, he was a bit nervous around Jennie and believed whatever Henry said about her.

I’ll get more into this when I get into my revolutionary war arc, but Jennie does eventually gain Alfred’s trust given she put herself on the line so he could become a nation and eventually he learns she does have good financial and trade advice. She knows what she’s doing. And she isn’t afraid to tell him off. Although most of his early states are a bit older than him so tbh none of them are afraid to speak their mind to him. But Jennie is a bit different cause she also remains a close family friend of Alfred’s. In many ways, she becomes like this weird older sister to him. Jennie also later introduces Alfred to Lynn/ Manhattan who also has similarly good advice regarding trade and is more naturally charismatic than Jennie or Alfred (Alfred is naturally like an awkward grumpy New Englander lolll), which has proven to be extremely useful.

Now I mention Henry here as well, and a bit with his relationship especially his dislike of Jennie cause Jennie and Henry are like genuinely two people Alfred trusts fully even if Henry and Jennie are usually fighting and contradicting each other lol. Cause he knows those two have his best interests, and they don’t bullshit him. Even if he doesn’t always like their advice. Also Henry and Jennie do have a couple of romantic relationships when they’re adults - however tbh that’s more like comp het and confusing friendship with romance but they’re messy and I’ll discuss them another time.

What was your favorite Medieval story you read this year?

Diu Crône, easy. While I wouldn’t say it’s perfect I’m always struck by how creative the author is with worldbuilding—it just brings the story to life. I also really appreciate just how the author’s love of certain characters shines through and I can respect that myself—there's just something to relating to a man so far removed from your time period but finding common ground over the things you love. The human experience really :)

What was your favorite Arthurian musical you saw this year?

The one you introduced me to XD!! I love the 1920s style musicals with the clever lyricism, so A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court is right up my alley. I just adore Mary Testa’s take on To Keep My Love Alive—iconic song for an iconic character.

What is a ship you discovered you enjoy this year?

Sir Agravaine/Yvonne!!! Something about a man disregarded by his society for not fitting the knightly mold meeting a woman disregarded by society for not being conventionally attractive and being so ridiculously stupid in love for each other??? I want a slice-of-life TV show where these two get to live in domestic bliss! P.G Wodehouse I continue to stan!
