Local Night Owl Tries To Be Morning Person
As you have probably figured out from the title, I’m not a morning person. I have seen more sunrises from staying up all night than waking up early in the morning and I love it. So naturally, I decided to challenge myself and wake up at 7 am everyday, for a week. Twice.
Let me explain. Mornings for me have always been very functional, I get up at the time I need to in order to be on time. So around forty minutes to do my stretches, get ready, eat something real quick, and get out the door for work which runs me mostly on time.
It’s a habit I’ve carried on from high school when I would get maybe four hours of sleep, so in order to maximize my shut eye I would get up at the last possible minute that still ensured I got to school on time.
Now, this isn’t my life anymore, I don’t need to be maximizing sleep. So I thought maybe I can actually try and make the most of my morning. Maybe. I started by creating some goals, what I thought/want to get out of waking up early:
I realize this is a hefty list for someone who is the epitome of a night owl, but this is genuinely what I want to accomplish, and these are goals which means they are meant to be worked towards.
And then I decided to wake up at 7am for a week. Back in May.
Since you’re reading this in June, clearly it didn’t go well. The main reason was because I had to unexpectedly move last month and that threw everything for a loop so I ended up dropping the already failing challenge to focus on the move.
But I still want to share that experience with you because it was my honest first try at this so here’s my journaling from the 3 days I tried the challenge:
Journal Entry Day 1: Sunday:
I failed. I could not get up at 7am even though I was conscious enough to turn off my alarm. This is a probably a mixture of the fact that I stayed up till 3am the night before and I always sleep in on the weekends and can’t motivate myself to get up if I don’t have any plans. I actually got out of bed at 12:30 pm today and am so disappointed in myself. This is not a great start to this week and I’m debating starting over next week instead. I wanted to do so many things and not being able to do them they way I wanted is very discouraging.
As you can see the first day didn’t go well at all. In fact, I failed so spectacularly that I almost scraped the whole idea for this week and considered doing it the following week instead. Then I thought that I shouldn’t let this stop me and if this is going to be an honest post of my true experience, I need to share my failure. And so even though I wasn’t happy with myself, I decided to keep pushing on.
Journal Entry Day 2: Monday:
Well something is better than nothing, got out of bed at 7:40am. I stayed up till 3:30am the previous night reading (this is really quite a trend I’ve adopted) so getting up today was harder knowing that I could actually be getting more substantial sleep.
But at least I woke up earlier than usual and did have time to do both my morning stretches and a ten-minute core workout. I also managed to journal for a little bit, including this entry, but I definitely feel the pressure of time and can’t really take things as slow as I had hoped. Nonetheless, despite feeling rushed, this is progress from before.
I used to get up at 7am when I had to actually drive to work, but in the month or so I’ve been in quarantine, working from home has pushed that time by at least an hour (and usually more). I was able to get some things done on Day 2 despite the late wake up. I know this was heavily influenced by my 3:30am bedtime, but there were times (as my alarm periodically woke me up) where I could have gotten up had I pushed myself but I couldn’t do it, feeling the need for more sleep winning over.
I knew this was a mental hurdle but it felt all the more prominent as I had trouble convincing myself that it’s worth it to get up instead of keep sleeping.
Journal Entry Day 3: Tuesday:
Well I got up at 7:30 today, almost by mistake. It’s become second nature for me to ignore my alarms but somehow I happened to check right at 7:30. The tug of sleep is real. I had a hard time opening my eyes and getting myself to actually get up and move. I wasn’t even that tired, I just really wanted to sleep…
Somehow I’ve gotten myself up, it wasn’t bad five minutes into it when I was doing my stretches though. And from there I managed another ten minute workout and have been able to journal too. It’s definitely nicer to have more time today than I did yesterday. I don’t really feel the need to pick out my outfit (since I’m quarantining) so the next 15-20 minutes or so have opened up.
Adding an extra half hour to my normal forty minute morning routine was something I had been tossing around in my head as I started this. That was what I was actually going to implement into my life after this week long challenge was over. Mistakenly, I was able to test it out on Day 3 to see if I would have enough time with the extra half hour to accomplish the things I wanted.
It turned out alright, but I was aware of the fact that I am still mostly running on time with the added workout and journaling and still didn’t have the leisure time to take things slow the way I had hoped. However, my focus and goal for this challenge was to actually wake up at 7 which as of Day 3 I had not done. But still it was progress compared to the previous two days.
As you can see it was not successful. But it taught me a lot about myself and the habits I’ve created that are the hardest to fight.
-I stay up late most nights, the true night owl shining through, and that prevents me from waking up early
-I still hold on to the mentality that if I can sleep more and still get things done then I should sleep more (hence me running on time even though I was able to get things done)
-Actually getting out of bed is the hardest part, once I’m up and active I’m okay, but that first act is the hardest
-I expect myself to snooze, always have which is why I set alarms before I’m supposed to get up so I can snooze them, but it’s created the habit of me not getting up immediately which is probably why getting out of bed is so hard.
Keeping these things in mind I decided to try again, a week ago, to see if maybe I could do it better the second time around. But this time I decided to focus on only the work week, keeping the challenge to 5 days. I also decided to couple this with a morning routine of sorts to make me feel a little better, things I’d let slip since quarantine.
Now a lot of those probably sound obvious, but small things, intentionally done, create big differences. And I just needed to create a routine to hold myself accountable too. Plus. I work really well with lists so I thought this would be beneficial.
And now, for round 2:
Day 1: Monday:
I was conscious enough at 7am to know I should get up but ended up sleeping an extra 25 minutes. I went to sleep at 2 in the morning so that might have been a factor. But even then I know it has more to do with knowing I didn’t HAVE to get up that early. But I was able to get all the things on my morning list done.
Day 2: Tuesday:
Went to sleep at 3am so really couldn’t get myself up at 7am. I wasn’t even truly awake until 7:45 and didn’t make it out of bed till 8. I was still able to get my morning list done though.
Day 3: Wednesday:
Got up at 7:25 this morning, remember being somewhat conscious of my 7am alarm but once again couldn’t get my self out of bed earlier than I needed to knowing I could still accomplish my list without getting up at 7am.
Day 4: Thursday:
Got out of bed at 7:35 this morning even though I woke up at 6:30 wide awake because of some noise outside. But once I realized I had half an hour left, I went back to sleep and this happened. Once again was able to complete my morning routine.
Day 5: Friday:
I don’t know what I did yesterday that made me so tired that I just could not get myself out of bed. I became conscious at 7:45 and didn’t get out of bed till 8:10. I was so tired, even more so than what I usually feel when I wake up. I didn’t got to sleep that late, around 1:30 or so but I really struggled this morning. Today is the first true flop of the week. I got my morning stuff done, after I started working and if I hadn’t been working from home I would not have been able to do more than just my stretches. It’s actually really disappointing.
(Note: I ended up staying up till 6am, had there been a day 6 I would have failed even more)
As you can see, I fell back into the same patterns. True that I’m (for the most part) able to consistently get up early, but only early enough to accomplish my routine. What I haven't accomplished is the "taking it slow" thing that morning people do.
While there are some parts of my morning routine that do force me to slow down, it's not quite what I had envisioned. And I know this is because my morning is still very functional. I've listed out my morning routine and while it's definitely more positive, I'm still only getting up early enough to do those things.
Then again, I’m not a morning person and I don’t think a week can change that. I still view the night as my area of enjoyment where I can relax, read, write, do whatever at my own pace in comfort.
And that’s okay. I don’t think this needs to completely change me as a person. I know that I don’t want to give up the night the way I would need to to wake up early and while my heart and mind lay in the night I will never be able to truly become a morning person.
Your mindset and intention has everything to do in developing new habits or changing old ones and I know that where I’m at and what I’ve accomplished is what I could given those two things.
So yes, I did fail this challenge, but I’ve still walked away with a better, more positive, lifestyle experience. And moving forward, I will find a compromise between sleeping in and waking up early, perhaps some days I allow myself to stay up late and sleep in the next morning and other days go to bed on time to wake up early.
And there you have it, a night owl tries desperately to be a morning person and…somewhat succeeds? It’s not a white or black answer but a shade of grey as most things in life, and it’s been my honest, real experience.
I hope you guys enjoyed! This was a long one I know, but regardless I hope you got something out of it! If you’re a night owl and want to try this challenge out then please share with me your experience! And if you’re a morning person, please share your tips!
As always, thanks for reading!
See ya in the next one!

September- Viv and Andy part 2
On my previous trip to New Zealand in 2008, I and my friends spent a crazy month driving around the whole country with multiple stops and lots of road time, this time round I wanted to spend less time in the car and more time doing things. Top of Viv and Andy’s list was Whale watching in Kaikoura which is on the South Island near Christchurch. With our base in Auckland we decided to fly down meaning maximum time doing stuff and no long days hauling ass down the country. Domestic travel is super easy in NZ so I booked us some last minute fights to Christchurch for the Monday and with no plans till the next day we were able to take our time and minimise travel stress.
We got in mid-afternoon and with google maps in hand tried to work out where our hostel was in relation to the airport, fairly typically I remember it being the opposite side of town, but decent buses and small bags meant it wasn’t too much of a hardship. We stayed at a youth hostel near the botanical gardens in a 3 person room, I guess meant for a family with one child, Viv and I hadn’t shared a room for a good few years so that was a bit weird; but it was comfy enough and we were going to be out most of the time anyway. After a quick freshen up, and a mini google, we headed back out to find somewhere to eat, Monday night in a big city, shouldn’t be too hard eh?
The town centre was absolutely dead. The shopping streets were clean and well-kept with big high street brands, wide streets with multiple pedestrian crossings and yet no people around except us. There didn’t appear to be any little bars dotted around, no bustling restaurants, the only place we found that had a few restaurants/bars in one location was dark and shut up. Perhaps this is different at the weekend, but it gave a slightly abandoned vibe, since the 2011 earthquake it seems lot of people left town for safety/work/the ability to drive on roads that hadn’t collapsed; and really you can’t blame them. We eventually found a small place that was one of those airstream caravans with a heated outdoor seating area that did burgers and pints of beer, by this point we were pretty hungry so it would have been good but honestly, I remember it being particularly good. On the way back to the hostel we passed a giant old school joystick controller mounted in the pavement which was linked with a large screen on the side of a building, with this you could play a giant game of space invaders. Again, we were the only people around in the streets so we played undisturbed for some time; although Andy was the only one good at it so after a while we gave up.
We were picked up Tuesday morning by a local man with a van who drove us all the way up to Kaikoura for the day, it’s about a 3 hour journey so a lot of driving for a day trip, but if you wanna see whales, Kaikoura is where you need to be. It was also really great to have a local drive us as we didn’t know much about the earthquake, save what had been on the news, so getting his insight and experience was sobering but important. On the way out the city, he pointed out some of the local sights that were no longer there, including the CTV building that completely collapsed leading to 115 of the 185 deaths in the disaster. The roads up the coast were also all twisted and broken having been fixed up slowly over the previous 7 years, at one point completely undriveable due to landslides and collapse. They took a long time to be fixed to the point of everyday use partly due to the extensive damage but also lack of money in region (Canterbury is quite a large area to share a budget).
Looking into the earthquake, the reason it was so devastating was three fold:
1) It measured 6.3 on the Richter scale, the epicentre was only 6 and half km from the city centre and it was shallow. This meant there was simultaneous vertical and horizontal ground movement, with eye witness accounts describing people being ‘tossed in the air’ as well as increased liquefaction causing more ground movement, undermining many building foundations.
2) There had been 2 large quakes in 2010, one measuring 7.1, which had already weakened some buildings and infrastructure in and around the city.
3) It was midday so the city centre were full
We made our way fairly slowly up the coast with a bit of chat and narration, over the last 7 years despite the money problems, a lot of work had been done to make these roads passable. Highways in New Zealand are pretty much all single lane and in most places it’s the only road, so with highway 1 out of commission there is no way north from Christchurch without going across to the west coast and back again (a 400km dogleg.) We were booked on a whale tour in the early afternoon and arrived with just enough time to have a loo stop and a quick drink before heading out; we had to watch a health and safety video first which was basically, boat go fast/sit down. The company then took us the last bit of the way to the harbour and onto the boats which were catamaran style and set up inside with swish bucket seats. The boat was pretty full with what seemed to be one large group of Chinese tourists so if we had any hope of getting 3 seats together and by the window we needed to be quick; I knew from experience that I get a bit sick so having somewhere to sit inside where you can still see the sea is useful. After another small health and safety talk (boat fast/sit) we were on our way; most of these tours have the ‘if we don’t see anything we’ll book you on another tour’ policy which isn’t always great coz people don’t tend to hang around Kaikoura for more than the day they’re booked, but it does mean the company would lose money so they really want to see something as much as we do.
Sick as a dog, I spent the whole time sitting outside on the back staring at the horizon coz I was told staring at a stationary line can help (it didn’t) but I made it through without spewing so I call that a win. We didn’t see much to begin with but these boats are set up with all sorts of underwater gadgets so they can try to identify where whales can be located. Kaikoura sits at the southern end of the Hikurangi trench which has depths of 3km very close to shore which has led to a large number of deep sea species ending up here; this food source is pretty irresistible to whales and so unlike a lot of places they can regularly be seen within a short distance of the coast. The boat sent out a pulse thing and the responding squeaks gave us a heading and eventually we came upon some sperm whales; the sickness subsided for a few minutes so I could watch and take some pics. To be honest, the whales were great, but even just being on the sea and looking back across the southern alps was amazing enough to justify the days travel, I’ve never heard my sister exclaim as much as our drive up once we got near the mountains. We returned to the harbour and were met by our driver who took us into Kaikoura for our included fish supper, having felt sick for the last few hours a giant pile of chips with decent ketchup was literally the best.
On our journey back we went at our own pace stopping for photos across Kaikoura, the southern alps and the pacific ocean; every one suitable for display like most of the south island. We also came across roughly a billion seals lying on spits of rock right next to the coastal road who were totally unfazed by our proximity and were, I swear, posing. The main bulk of the journey back we spent listening to our own things, I’m pretty sure I had the newest episode of ‘My dad wrote a porno’ which I was trying to get through without disturbing the driver or laugh so hard he asked what I was listening to. Having consulted my guests, we cannot remember what we did that night so it was clearly super important but having had a long day I’m sure we just flopped into bed.
Our flight back wasn’t until the evening so we had the whole day to play with in Christchurch; I wanted to go to the earthquake memorial which was a short walk through town. I had been the CHCH briefly in 2008 but only stayed for a half day due to time constraints so I don’t really remember what it looked like; I only really have a picture in my head of an old cathedral with a spire on a square. This, as it turns out, was the famous Christchurch cathedral who’s spire fell in 2011 and still wasn’t safe for visitors so they had built a ‘transitional cathedral’ while they fixed up the original. This was right next to the earthquake memorial so we were able to see both; the memorial ‘185 empty white chairs’ is a sombre little patch of grass on a junction with a bunch of chairs all painted white to represent the 185 people that lost their lives. The chairs are all different and range from wicker to kitchen to office to wheelchair, there’s even a baby carrier as sadly there were some children who died. There is discussion of how to make this memorial permanent as the chairs are just made of normal chair material and have required some upkeep and painting since 2012; I think it’s totally worthwhile as it’s a poignant reminder of the 5th worst disaster in NZ history.
After lunch we still had some time so we headed to the Canterbury museum in the botanical gardens, here there was a large exhibition on Antarctic exploration as a number of famous expeditions have taken off from CHCH. Now people tend to travel from Chile or Argentina as it’s a shorter journey by sea and they come to the Antarctic Peninsula which has a lot of wildlife, however, what’s-his-name Scott and thingy Shackleton didn’t know this in advance so left from NZ on a few trips. I don’t remember what else was in the museum but we did head to the café for a cuppa and large piece of cake before retracing our steps from a few days earlier and heading to the airport. I was really hoping for us to get back in time for my regular Wednesday night pub quiz at Zac’s bar; we just about made it only missing the first round. As we were 3 extra we had to form our own team so Canterbury UNT were not the same size as all the other teams put together; I don’t remember how we did but I’m sure we won. Right?

How Maintaining Your Routine When Traveling Helps You
If I have actually learned anything over the previous few months is that it's unbelievably vital to keep a regular while you travel. Initially the battle on my end is completely psychological. The psychological adjustment to living a way of living that doesn't mirror just how you normally live the meticulously curated lifestyle you have actually established for yourself.
In preparation for my trip to the United States, I sought to be prepared with pre-written blog site posts for you men. I actually did. In fact, I actually only had a handful finished. If I'm being honest, this is the first real vacation I have actually absorbed years. If you've read my blog site for longer than the last year or so, and also if you have, you're one of the most effective people ever, you'll claim "Ally, you've been overseas" and also it holds true. I have. Nonetheless ... my overseas journeys have actually constantly been work-related as well as whilst I'm thankful for all of the places function has actually taken me I in fact locate it difficult to place my laptop computer away and absolutely, truthfully change off.
As you read this, we're going north on our trip to San Francisco in a Recreational Vehicle. We're roughly a hr in, however we have actually simply been held up near Malibu with minimal net coverage so we cannot really gauge for how long we'll be right here for. The sunlight is seatsing over the ocean - which is incredibly odd if you're from the east coastline of Australia - and also the sight is absolutely spectacular, so excuse me while I obtain sidetracked. Update - it was actually a 4 cars and truck accident (after two hours of stand up). I do not know if I will certainly get the opportunity to upload this while I am in the UNITED STATE _ I may simply hold on to it for my return at the end of Nov. I have had a little of a so-called digital detoxification due to the reality I have actually intended to simply be soaked up in this journey! So, if I publish this after I return, allow me take you back in time ...
If I've learned anything over the past couple of months is that it's incredibly crucial to preserve a regular while you travel. The struggle on my end is totally psychological. The psychological modification to living a lifestyle that doesn't show how you generally live the carefully curated way of life you have actually set for yourself. The means I have actually tried to fight/ rectify the circumstance is to try to maintain the standard structure of your normal lifestyle.
I need to stress and anxiety: you don't should stress. Leave your regimen where it was. You usually wake at 7:30 on the dot? If you're walking around, you'll wake anywhere from 12:30 am for three hrs or 12:30 pm (once more for three hours prior to dropping off to sleep in a Dennys). You simply need to - try at the very least - prioritise and also provide precedence to those components of your life that to some degree specify as well as outline the scary Halloween skeleton of your life. In saying that, you can't anticipate these points to form - they're points you should plan for.
PLANNING IS STUPID, Do This FOR ME
The biggest thing when taking a trip is time restraint. You do not wish to be restrictive to yourself or whoever you're taking a trip with. If you make it a priority to obtain some excellent food in your body and move your body simply 15-20-minutes at all times restrictions will not defeat up your regular so badly.
It's a very various way of existing when you get on the do without a regular to drop back on. In your everyday life, your way of living can be comforting as well as provide framework when job or lifestyle difficulties present themselves. Whilst taking a trip, it's all regarding not veering as well near those specifying elements of your routine life without trying to regulate whatever to the umpteenth degree and also making your vacation demanding and not enjoyable. For me, traveling isn't really a retreat from your daily life or a separation from truth, they're an expansion of it. Below are some means to preserve a regular when traveling.
1. Choose an area with a kitchen
I love submersing myself within a society. Like everybody, I like attempting new dining establishments and also, more notably, brand-new cuisines when taking a trip. Keep tuned for my The U.S.A. pointers for LA, San Francisco, NY and Mexico. When we remained at the Meriton Serviced Apartments we had the ability to prepare and prepare breakfast the last early morning we were there. Sometimes consuming out reaches be excessive and costly, so having a fully-equipped kitchen area really assists with this.
2. Choose healthy options
If you are traveling, there are many healthy choices nowadays. Ensure you search Pinterest and also your favour blogs in advance of taking a trip! I will certainly upgrade you on a few of my UNITED STATE suggestions as soon as possible. Did you see Sydney's recently?
3. Move your body
I composed a blog post a couple of years ago concerning ways to stay in shape when taking a trip - this is one I am very enthusiastic regarding. It is so simple to preserve a fitness routine when taking a trip - all you need to do it mix it up and do the finest you can. Some points Jonathan and I want to do are: stroll anywhere or cycle. Many hotels have a health club, so just appear, I loved having the ability to use the Meriton Serviced Apartments gym - they had treadmills, exercising weights as well as a rowing device, all which I use at my typical health club so we tailored my exercise to that fitness center as well as made it much shorter as we were restricted with time.
If you're taking a trip globally, or are hard at job, you could discover you're short on power, or are weak compared to typical. For us, a big component of our travel workouts are maintaining the habit. You will not obtain torn in a single workout. Likewise, you will not obtain ripped in any way if you quit working out after a long holiday as well as never ever obtain back to it.
I truly enjoyed being able to start my day with something I normally do as it made me really feel positioned despite the fact that I wasn't in my usual surroundings. Another idea is fill your knapsack with water bottles and also stroll. If you're not staying at a hotel with a fitness center then my tip would certainly be to do some body weight movements like: push-ups, air squats and also burpees. You can also do the exercise I suggested earlier this month as no equipment is needed.
4. Eat the way you usually do also if you typically aren't eating the foods you normally do.
I understand this may be difficult, especially on a long vacations, but try to eat exactly how you usually would. For me, I would certainly never eat a significant morning meal, lunch and supper. I would certainly constantly pick one dish and also make that the main. For morning meal while traveling I would certainly either begin the day with a grain, fruit or eggs and then a larger lunch, If I had a big breakfast however-- face it, I needed to attempt American pancakes, I would certainly then have a small lunch and so on, et cetera. The secret is enjoying yourself yet not damaging yourself.
Again, it's concerning keeping your eating habits.
5. Get on neighborhood time as quickly as I arrive
This is definitely critical - so if you're taking a trip to Sydney, hop on regional time asap. If you're traveling to the U.S.A, you'll have a stopover, so start to establish your clock on your 2nd flight.
It's presently 12 noon Wednesday back in Sydney and also 6:17 pm Tuesday regional time LA, and I am feeling sensibly terrific all things taken into consideration. I figured that by this stage, I 'd be squeezing myself to stay awake till going to bed, particularly with inputting while taking a trip in the back of the Recreational Vehicle. Did I even mention that I'm in a Motor Home? Since I am. It appears like this. VROOOOOOM. Oh man, I rejoice I am not feeling sick right currently. VROOOOOOOOOMasdghlkjahsdgkfljh.
Last evening we went to sleep around 10 neighborhood time to ensure that gave all of us enough time to thrash, awaken in the night while still getting 6-8 hours of sleep. My various other tip is to book someplace super comfortable with cloud like beds for the opening night or more to make sure that readjusting your sleep is very easy. I know that does not seem like it would certainly make much distinction, yet after investing 15+ hrs obtaining from one place to the following, you can't underestimate the value of remaining in a bed that's not a super-cheap seat on a 3rd rate airline company that just reclines regarding fifty percent of a single degree. Oh, to be back in the Meriton on their cloud like beds, after spending the past four nights on a cushion thinner than a Denny's pancake.
If you have any type of regular or traveling pointers, let me understand by means of the comment area, Instagram or snail mail. Though, that could take a while to get to me.
A big thank you to the Meriton and Amex for permitting JD and also I remain with you!

Latest story from https://movietvtechgeeks.com/riverdale-spins-kylie-jenner-megyn-kelly-tupac-lives/
'Riverdale' spins out, Kylie Jenner on Megyn Kelly and Tupac lives
Ever since it premiered on The CW earlier this year, weekly teen drama Riverdale has been gaining a bigger and bigger fan base. Featuring the characters from the long-running comic series Archie Comics, the show puts a notably darker spin on the everyday occurrences in the small town of Riverdale. Inevitably, the show's success has led to TV executives looking for other ways to monetize the teenage TV viewers. According to recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter, The CW is hoping to bring a Sabrina the Teenage Witch spinoff to the small screen in the near future. The entertainment publication reported that Riverdale’s showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacassa is teaming up with the network to develop a screenplay for the show, which is supposedly aiming to be in line with the tone of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. Evidently, Roberto (with the help of The CW) is looking to put a more mature spin on the comic book story, which was originally written as a light-hearted, humorous comic about a teenage witch. While only a few details have been revealed about the in-development series, The Hollywood Reporter claims that it is being called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. However, seeing as it is still in the very early stages, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this title change before the show actually hits the air. Stay tuned for more details about The CW’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch spin-off, as well as Riverdale! If you have seen any of the tabloids over the past few weeks, you have probably spotted pictures of young Sofia Richie hanging out with troubled reality star Scott Disick. While they have both claimed to be merely friends, they continue to be photographed in each other’s company a lot these days – inevitably, leading to the continuance of media-driven relationship rumors. This week, tabloid magazine US Weekly reported that Sofia’s blossoming relationship (friendship or otherwise) with Scott has caused for some tension between her and stylist Chloe Bartoli, who has been linked to Scott on several occasions in the past. According to a source close to Sofia, she and Scott “became official over the past week while they were in New York City together.” Subsequently, when Chloe found out about the new development in the duo’s relationship, she was not happy. As you may or may not know, Chloe and Sofia have long been close friends. In fact, one insider says that the two “were the best of friends and were inseparable.” However, now that Sofia is getting close to Scott, the two have been distancing themselves from one another. The same source explained, “After Sofia started hooking up with Scott, Chloe stopped speaking to her. It’s a mess.” While it is tough to say how much truth there is to this particular story, it has been noted that Chloe and Sofia just recently un-followed each other on Instagram. In this day and age, that speaks volumes!
Kylie Jenner bailed on an interview with “Today” host Megyn Kelly, sources told media outlets, because she was spooked by potentially tough questions Kelly could ask.
Kelly’s interview with Kris Jenner and daughters Kim, Kourtney, Khloé and Kendall was taped earlier in the year and aired on Wednesday.
Noticeably absent was youngest sister Kylie, who’d posted images of herself at the studio for the interview back when it was taped.
A source tells us that before Kelly’s questions began, “Kylie bailed,” getting cold feet about facing the interviewer.
“She was all set to do the interview with her sisters, and she arrived at the location, ready to go,” a source said. “Then she bailed at the last minute because she thought the questions were going to be too tough.”
A rep for Kylie did not get back to us.
In her absence, Kendall defended Kylie, citing the 20-year-old’s cosmetics line when asked about any haters the family has.
“My little sister has an insane business . . . Anyone who says they don’t want their kid to be like that . . . is insane to me,” Kendall quipped.
Suge Knight thinks Tupac Shakur may still be alive. The Death Row Records CEO, who was with Shakur when he was shot in September 1996, discussed his belief in the conspiracy theory that the rapper survived the shooting for the upcoming Fox special “Who Shot Biggie and Tupac?” “When Pac died — I mean, if he really did, you know,” Knight, 52, told Soledad O’Brien and Ice-T in a clip released from the show Wednesday. “I mean, when I left that hospital, me and Pac was laughing and joking. So I don’t see how somebody can turn from doing well to doing bad. I’m gonna tell you that with Pac, you never know.” Knight made the revelation over the phone from jail, where he’s awaiting trial on a murder charge stemming from a 2015 incident in which he’s accused of running over two men with his car. Shakur’s East Coast rival, Notorious B.I.G., was shot to death in March 1997. Neither murder has been solved, though some fringe believers insist that Biggie is alive and residing in Greece and that a healthy Shakur is relaxing in Cuba. The full special will air Sunday on Fox. Following a Brooklyn premiere of Fergie’s long-awaited second solo album, some were left wondering if it was inspired by her breakup with Josh Duhamel. Tracks on the new album, titled “Double Dutchess,” include “Save It Till Morning,” “A Little Work,” “Love Is Blind” and “Love Is Pain.” And Fergie admitted, “There’s a lot of my life, and my vulnerable side on the album.” But she insists that the songs, written from the journals she has kept throughout her life, are about many relationships she has had, not just Duhamel, and the videos “amplify” events from her past. Fergie, 42, and Duhamel, 44, announced in September they had separated “earlier this year” after eight years of marriage. She and the “Transformers” star share a 4-year-old son, Axl, who she says is “the sun that we all revolve around,” adding that she is staying strong after the split for him. “Now it is really about taking care of yourself, I have a son, and keeping the balance of life is very important, just checking in with yourself to make sure everything is balanced.” The album is also a “visual experience,” with the singer filming a video for each of the songs Beyoncé-style, which will all drop on Friday, Sept. 22. Of the album she said, “There’s a weird religious tone to the whole thing. I am more spiritual than religious . . . It is also about my relationship with my God, my higher power, my universe, whatever you want to call it, whatever it is, I’ve really had to call upon that throughout the making of this album.” Fergie has been very open about her mistakes and overcoming drug addiction in the past: “Writing the song ‘A Little Work,’ it was all about how everything is a battle with the mind, it is how you change things slowly, little by little, sometimes it is not the easiest way to go, but that’s how we better ourselves. The song is definitely about a battle with myself and my own demons.” The record also includes some killer Fergie upbeat club tracks including “You Already Know” featuring Nicki Minaj and “Hungry” featuring Rick Ross. There’s also the cheeky song “M.I.L.F.$,” accompanied by a video that features Kim Kardashian, Chrissie Teigen, and Amber Valletta. Guests at Tuesday’s Wythe Hotel VIP party for Fergie’s new album included models Alex Lundqvist, Marquita Pring and Precious Lee, Cinema Society founder Andrew Saffir and Lady Kitty Spencer, the niece of the late Princess Diana. MSNBC anchor Lawrence O’Donnell has apologized after clips surfaced of him profanely yelling at staffers in between segments of his prime-time program. The clips from O’Donnell’s Aug. 29 show were published online by Mediaite on Wednesday. They show O’Donnell angrily reacting over the wrong sound being fed into his earpiece. He also demands someone put an end to hammering near the studio, calling on staffers to call MSNBC president Phil Griffin, if necessary. O’Donnell’s rant quickly became fodder for memes on social media. One widely-shared video spliced up O’Donnell’s comments about the hammering with the music video for M.C. Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This.” O’Donnell was contrite in a Twitter post Wednesday night, writing: “A better anchorman and a better person would’ve had a better reaction to technical difficulties. I’m sorry.” A 12-year-old singing ventriloquist is getting a $1 million prize and her own Las Vegas show after taking the “America’s Got Talent” crown on the season 12 finale of the NBC reality competition. Darci Lynne Farmer, of Oklahoma City, beat out another youngster, 10-year-old singer Angelica Hale, for the ‘AGT’ title Wednesday by garnering the most votes from viewers. Farmer told media outlets after the show that she was “overcome with joy and luckiness.” Judge Heidi Klum said the girl “is the full package,” adding that “she really touched people’s hearts” and “made people laugh at home.” Farmer is the third ventriloquist to win the competition. Season 2 champ Terry Fator performed a duet with Farmer on the season finale and worked with her on her scripts. Jimmy Kimmel used his late-night platform to continue his assault on the GOP health care bill, firing back at critics including U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy and “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade. The ABC star on Wednesday was following up on his monologue from Tuesday when he said the bill Cassidy is co-sponsoring failed the “Jimmy Kimmel test,” a phrase Cassidy coined in May after Kimmel announced his newborn son underwent heart surgery for a birth defect. The Louisiana Republican said Wednesday morning that Kimmel “does not understand” the bill. Kimmel mocked Cassidy’s claim and called his proposal “the worst health care bill yet.” After Kilmeade labeled Kimmel a “Hollywood elite” pushing politics, Kimmel called Kilmeade “a phony little creep” who Kimmel says previously asked him to write a blurb for his book. Kilmeade disputed some of Kimmel’s account on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday, saying he asked him to be a part of a sports book he wrote in 2003. He added that he hoped Kimmel’s son gets better and told the host: “Continue to do a great job.” Once again, couples in Hollywood have hit quite the rough patch… Over the past few weeks, we have been reporting about several notable splits in Hollywood. Unfortunately, this pattern of break-ups has yet to end, as another longtime couple has reportedly decided to part ways. This week, a source revealed to tabloid publication US Weekly that former OC starlet Rachel Bilson and her longtime beau Hayden Christensen have called it quits. The duo, who have been dating on and off for the past ten years, never got married. However, they do share a young daughter, 2-year-old Briar Rose. The insider told US Weekly, “[Rachel’s] full-time back in L.A. [Hayden’s] in Toronto. They’ve been on the outs for a couple of months.” Rachel and Hayden first met on the set of the action-thriller Jumper. In 2008, about a year after they started dating, Rachel and Hayden announced that they were officially engaged. Unfortunately, just two years later, the couple called off their engagement. Ever since then, they have been romantically linked to each other, despite no longer being engaged. According to US Weekly’s source, who is close to the stars, the couple is “completely, officially done” this time around. In happier news, another Hollywood couple will soon be welcoming their first child into the world together. On Tuesday, former Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul announced that he and his wife Lauren Paul are expecting their first baby. Aaron took to his Instagram page to share a photo of his glowing wife caressing her growing stomach, with a caption that explained, “Hey everyone. Look what I did. Words can’t express how excited I am that this little one has entered out lives. Just thought it was time I would share this beautiful news with you all.” Aaron Paul, Instagram post: Aaron’s wife Lauren also took to her Instagram to address the exciting news. She posted a photo collage of a baby picture of her, a baby picture of Aaron, as well as a sonogram of the little one that is on its way. Lauren Paul, Instagram post: Aaron and Lauren got married back in 2013. While Aaron is busy in the entertainment busy, Lauren keeps busy with philanthropy. In fact, the blonde haired beauty is one of the founders of the Kind Campaign, which aims to bring awareness to bullying and girl-on-girl hate. Now, the loved birds are preparing for the next chapter of their life together. Congratulations to Aaron and Lauren!

Back to School to Become the Ultimate Girl Boss: 10 Lessons I’ve Learned About Being an Entrepreneur
Whoa, hello there friends! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written a post on here! Thanks for being patient with me while I worked out the logistics of balancing my life. I’m now back at school and although my workload is heavy I do actually have more free time to spend on writing stellar content, so that’s what I’m here to do!
As I said, this year I decided to go back to school for entrepreneurship at one of the colleges in Toronto. I just finished my first week and oh my goodness – what a ride it has been! I literally went to school two days this week because of the holiday Monday (I only have classes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, hollaaaaa) and I’ve already learned so many amazingly applicable things that I’ll absolutely be implementing for my business, and some things that may not be as applicable to my business but still relevant nonetheless. Here’s the rundown from week one.
1. 5:00am wake up is the worst, but there are some positives to it!
Let’s just get this out there into the world – I am NOT a morning person. I hate waking up early and I’m at my most productive around 10:00pm-2:00am. Pretty sure I get that from my grandma, who’s in her mid-80s and still stays up till 2 every night! The point is, when I realized I had to get up at 5am in order to make the commute from the suburbs into the city for my 8am classes, I was not impressed in the slightest. I’m pretty sure the moment I realized this, I spent about 20 minutes ranting to my boyfriend on the phone about how society is catered to morning people and the world sucks – very dramatic, I know (but is it not a little bit true though?).
When I actually had to do it this week though, I had an incredibly odd experience. I actually enjoyed being out and about before the sun came up! The actual waking up part was a struggle, there’s no fooling anyone there. But there were no cars, no people on sidewalks cutting me off, nothing like that. The train station I go to is also right on Lake Ontario, so I get a pretty nice view of the sunrise while waiting for my train!
Am I a fully transformed morning person? Absolutely not, I slept in till about 10:30 this morning and have no shame about it. However, do I think waking up early is much more doable than I originally had anticipated? When you’re excited about what you’re doing and want to get up and work and learn, absolutely!
2. Network, network, network – and do it properly!
Ahh, networking. The dreaded word that our introverted sides absolutely cringe at. Girlfriend, if that’s you, just know I’m totally with you on that one. I love networking with other bloggers and such online, but when it comes to face-to-face actually talking to someone, I freeze. I’ve never been to a networking event for this reason, but all of that is about to change… that’s right, one of my assignments is actually to attend a networking event! First of all, terrifying, right? But second of all, how incredibly applicable that is! As someone who is generally quite shy, I need something like this to push me out of my comfort zone. You can’t get better at something without practice, so although I’m freaking out about it, I’m also so glad I can do it in the safety of being in school.
Something I learned about networking events this week is that a lot of people have the wrong idea for how to go about it. Many people think that if they leave at the end of the night and have run out of business cards they were successful at the event. As my HR prof pointed out though this week, this isn’t necessarily the case. If you leave without collecting any business cards from anyone else, how are you supposed to contact them? If they have your contact info and you don’t have theirs, who has the upper hand? That means the ball is in their court to contact you, which may or may not happen.
3. Know exactly what’s happening in your business’ Supply Chain Process
In my entrepreneurship program, I have to take a course called “supply chain management”. Do you think I knew what that was? Absolutely not! I thought it had to do with places like staples that supply items for other businesses, which yes it is, but it’s so much more than that. Essentially, it’s about the process of creating your product or service and all of the little steps involved. And when I say little, I mean EVERY LITTLE STEP. You used a piece of tape to package a box for shipment? That’s part of the supply chain. You need a specific type of paper to create your journals? Again, that’s another part of it.
The reason it’s important as a business owner to know everything about your supply chain process is so you can know exactly what amount of money is going into a product from beginning to end. This is relevant, of course, in figuring out how to make a profit while still keeping things at a reasonable price. I can’t go into super specific details, as it’s only the first week, but I do know that it’s important to have control of the finances in your business, which is why supply chain management is so important.
4. A Handshake is more than just a handshake
In one of my classes this week, we did one of those icebreaker introduce yourself exercises. Sounds pretty generic, right? It was, except our prof insisted that she needed to shake each of our hands in the process. Some people were pretty weirded out by it, while others like myself hardly noticed. Afterwards, however, she pointed out in a general sense that most of us had strong handshakes while others needed a lot of work. This was strange, as your handshake isn’t really something you tend to think much about in everyday life, but isn’t it so true that a handshake can tell a lot about a person during that small first impression window of meeting someone?
When shaking hands with someone, here are a couple of tips I learned during this exercise. A firm grip is preferable over one of those handshakes where someone holds out two fingers (isn’t that so awkward?! Omg I’ve had that happen to me a few too many times). Eye contact, squaring your shoulders with the person, and smiling are amongst other qualities of a good handshake that were mentioned.
5. It is absolutely possible to make friends as an adult
You guys! After the past year of having pretty much no one around except my boyfriend, I finally am developing somewhat of a girl group at school! Maybe I’m fangirling a bit too much about this, but it’s so exciting to me to have a group of girls to eat lunch with and do group projects with – we even have a WhatsApp group chat! And yes, I am in college again, so I suppose it’s again one of those places that make it a bit easier to make friends, but it happened so organically that I’m not even sure college had a lot to do with it.
We’re all entrepreneurs and we’re in the same class. But perhaps if we had met at a networking event or something like that we would have hit it off there too. The point is that I’m 23 years old and I’m starting to develop new friendships, so it is absolutely doable. That’s a crazy exciting epiphany for me!
6. You need to be comfortable with criticism if you’re going to be successful as an entrepreneur
Criticism has always been like my arch nemesis, both giving and receiving. I have a very difficult time not taking things personally and I hate saying things to others that they might take personally. It’s a double edged sword. That being said, I’m fully aware of the importance of being able to handle giving and receiving criticism as an entrepreneur. There will be a day when I have to manage other employees. There will be a time even sooner when I’m pitching my business ideas to investors, who will absolutely tell me exactly what they think, what they like, and what they don’t like.
These concepts are terrifying. Luckily, I’m currently in college where my professors encourage us to practice in a safe space. We’re required to work in a group not of our choosing and give in-person peer evaluations to each person in the group on a weekly basis. I was extremely uncomfortable with this activity at first, probably because I grew up in this millennial generation where teachers always sugar-coated things for us growing up (for instance, whenever I’ve had to do a peer-evaluation it was always written anonymously). But that’s not how the real world works. There’s an entire generation of us who aren’t prepared to handle criticism, which is why I think activities like this are so important and relevant, especially within an entrepreneurial lifestyle.
7. Entrepreneurial traits for the most part can be learned
There’s a lot of debate going around about whether the common traits of successful entrepreneurs can be learned or not. The verdict by professionals in the industry, however, is that for the most part these traits can be learned. This was interesting as I was among those who believe you either have what it takes or you don’t. Among some of the top traits successful entrepreneurs tend to possess are a tolerance for ambiguity, a drive to achieve success, persistence and perseverance, personable, and an ability to be a critical thinker.
8. We weren’t given strict deadlines in school for no reason
Have you ever actually thought about what deadlines mean in the real world? Maybe this is just me, but I never made the connection between our teachers giving us strict deadlines growing up and what that would teach us for when we step out into the workforce. I honestly thought they were just being hard-asses!
One of my profs used an example to explain this that really got me thinking. If a bakery owner takes an order for a cake to be ready for Saturday at 2pm for a little boy’s birthday party, and then at 1:30 calls the mom who ordered the cake to tell her that she won’t have it ready in time, what are the implications? It’s more than just a failing grade on a test. It’s a little boy’s dream of having a Pikachu cake for his 5th birthday crushed! Now the mother has to run around last minute to find a grocery store cake which her kid may or may not like (you know how kids are lol).
Okay, so maybe it’s not the end of the world. But those are real life implications impacting real people because that one person didn’t meet their deadline. It causes a lot of stress for everyone involved. In order for the world to function properly, we need to have discipline and we need to have deadlines. No matter how large or small the issue, we as entrepreneurs must make sure we’re setting and meeting deadlines. Otherwise our businesses aren’t going to succeed in the ways that we probably want them to.
9. We’re not always going to like the people we work with and they’re not always going to like us
Going back to the group I was assigned (which I don’t think has happened since I was like 14). There’s a reason my prof assigned us groups to work with instead of allowing us to choose our groups. As an entrepreneur, it’s likely that we’ll have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of individuals, some of whom we may like and others of whom we won’t so much. We need to learn to work with anyone, regardless of whether we want to be their best friend or not.
10. I’m finally excited about the path that I’m on!
This one is more personal, but it feels so great to finally be on the right path! I’m actually excited to wake up early in the morning and get to work on building my business. That’s something I haven’t been able to say, like, ever. It’s been a long road, but I feel like I’ve finally found my passion, and it’s an amazing feeling!
If you had told me a year ago that I would be this happy in a year, I would have laughed and then cried because that’s how shit things were at this time last year (pretty sure I had just gotten back from PEI after having a meltdown and loosing my housing so it wasn’t a good time to say the least). Every decision I’ve made up to this point has led me down this path, and I don’t have any regrets about either the good times or the hardships. They’ve made me who I am today, and I’m proud to be that person.
The takeaway…
Overall, my first week at school was a successful one. I’m incredibly glad to have chosen an entrepreneurship college certificate. This is exactly what I need to get my business off the ground and learn important skills along the way.
What is your number one tip for entrepreneurs who are just starting out? Let’s get a conversation started in the comments to support each other through this process. I’d love to hear your thoughts! Last Week’s Workouts + EnduraPouch
Another week of training is done. I’m officially in marathon training even though I really don’t want to say it out loud. I’ve got big goals for myself and frankly, it scares the pants off me. But then again, isn’t that what goals are supposed to do?
Fingers crossed. One workout, one week at a time. Let’s do this!
Last Week’s Workouts
Monday
30 minutes recumbent bike, strength training, core
Looking back on the week, I should have planned this day as a run day rather than cross training. My calves were feeling a little tight Sunday evening after the weekend’s events so I thought I’d be cautious. The yoga class I took Sunday night must have worked out all the knots because Monday morning I felt great.
The kids were off from school because of a teacher workshop so I was interrupted numerous times to referee. On the bright side, at least I got to sleep in a little because I was off from work too.
Tuesday
7 mile Fartlek treadmill run: 2 mile w/u easy pace, 10 x 1:00 5k pace, 2:00 recovery pace
P.M. gentle yoga class
I woke up to the sound of ice pellets hitting my window. I looked outside and found snow, sleet and freezing rain happening all at the same time. A minute later, I got the phone call canceling school. To the treadmill I went! I’d much rather run outside but a quality workout was not going to happen outside on unplowed roads.
Since my usual morning yoga class was cancelled I made the last minute decision to pop into an evening class. It was just what I needed to work out the kinks. I think I say that about every yoga class I go to.
Wednesday
30 minutes recumbent bike, 10 minutes rowing machine, strength training, Bosu balance, core, wall running
I had some major – I don’t know what I want to do for a workout today – feelings on Wednesday. I still am not the biggest fan of the rowing machine (sea sickness on land sucks!) but I’m trying to play around with avoiding it.
Thursday
12 miles Trail Running (2:41)
Ever have a run where you forget an important part of your gear but are too far away from home to go back to get it? That’s the story of my life. As soon as Lori and I parked at the trail head, I realized I had left my microspikes at home. Shit. Rather than scrapping the whole idea or wasting time going back home to get the spikes, I decided to go for it. There was a nice crust on top of the snow that I easily could run on. That worked out great till the temperatures started to warm up and the snow turned into mush. The last 2 miles were painfully slow like I was running in dry beach sand. And I was absolutely starving despite eating and drinking Tailwind throughout the run. There was a lot of swearing and I hate running talk. Why am I doing this to myself when I’m training for a road marathon?!?!?!
Thankfully, I had a massage planned for later that day that gave some major love to my poor calves.
Friday
4 easy pace recovery miles
I woke up stiff and sore from Thursday’s run so I took it super easy pace to loosen things up.
Saturday
11 miles, 8:43/avg pace
It’s kind of amazing what happens when one person posts about meeting up for a long run on a group Facebook page and 25 people show up.
It’s kind of amazing how you can wake up feeling like shit (literally) and wonder am I going to be able to run today?
It’s kind of amazing how you can set out to run 8 miles and end up running 11 at a pretty great pace for most of it and feel fantastic for the duration.
Sunday
Active rest/snowboarding
It was a gorgeous day on the slopes. I was having a really great day riding with Ron while the kids’ were in their lesson. Then it started to warm up, the conditions started to go down hill, my kids were losing skis and I was wiping out like I’d never snowboarded before. So much for a rest day!
The miles are increasing for #marathontraining in Last Week’s Workouts #runchat Click To Tweet
When we hit the slopes, we always pack snacks and a lunch. If you’ve been to a ski resort lately, you know that it’s absolutely ridiculous what they charge for food. Plus, its usually standard cafeteria style food. No thanks.
My friend Laura and her husband Ryan, recently sent me their EnduraPouch Fuel Pouch to try out. It’s a brilliant reuseable pouch that holds up to 3 gels with an easy to open top. With a fill window, there’s no guessing how much fuel you’ve taken in. One of the best part of the EnduraPouch is the top. Trying to open a gel with cold hands or with mittens/gloves is not an easy task. Even when the weather is warmer, I still fumble around with those little packets. The EnduraPouch is a great alternative because of it’s easy twist off/on cap. It’s still small enough to fit in pockets or my SPI-belt.
Besides being great for athletes, it’s great for kids. My kids are huge fans of squeezable applesauce or yogurt tubes. Using an EnduraPouch instead is a great money saving option and way better for the environment. I fill up the EnduraPouch Fuel Pouches for ski days, hiking trips and even in the kids’ lunches.
I thought it was going to be super messy to set up and clean but there’s a convenient wide opening on the bottom for easy access to all the nooks and crannies. Quick clean up especially since it’s dishwasher safe.
You can find out more about EnduraPouch on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook.
You need this -> Check out the easy to use EnduraPouch from @TheGearWell Click To Tweet
I was provided product samples and compensation for a blog review of EnduraPouch. All opinions are my own.
Linking up with Ilka for the weekly wrap up.
How were your workouts last week?
Have you tried a reusable pouch before for running fuel or everyday eating?
