I just finished rewatching ATLA and I have to say…
Absolutely insane to me that people were insisting that Azula not getting a redemption was “misogynistic” and some kind of writing mistake. The girl told her dad to commit mass genocide.

the scene of the force of azula and zuko’s fire meeting causing them both to reel back and fall, and azula literally spinning out, while zuko doesn’t, trusting that there’s a support network for him to rely on - and there is, with katara (who hasn’t yet forgiven him!!!) pulling him onto appa’s saddle as azula has to use her own wits and resourcefulness to survive because there’s no one she truly trusts to back her up… that’s some FUN imagery.

mai is THE prime example of the ‘drop your weapons! all your weapons. i said ALL your weapons. *character keeps taking out an increasingly comical number of knives*’ memes like girl just has projectiles Everywhere on her person and i love that for her. how does she store them without tearing her clothes

if I had a penny for every time I see a fire wielding character with a dark backstory of daddy issues and facial burn scars caused by those same fathers I’d have three pennies, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened three times.

I have a deep understanding and appreciation of Azula as a character because I also got favored by a Psychopathic Father and neglected by a Boy Mom

Rewatched The Tales of Ba Sing Se and I’ve gotta give Jin credit- she had the patience of a saint and practically carried most of that date on her back lol. If I was her and Zuko was being that anhedonic I would’ve cut out early. At least he came through and lit up the lanterns at the end tho.

Dante Basco did so much for us & no one else will ever be Zuko to me. Obviously everyone in the original ATLA is iconic & talented but I wanted to talk about this scene -
there’s so many ways this moment can be interpreted & I’ve seen lots of them but I think the voice acting tells us a lot.
Zuko’s voice almost breaks when he says “she’s… not gonna make it.” There’s a slight pause as he realizes that he might be about to become an only child himself.
Then Zuko’s voice is bitter when he says “of course she did.” I think Zuko would be at the very least conflicted about Azula’s death at this point in the story.
We’ve seen that there is camaraderie between the siblings. The Beach is the strongest evidence we have with Azula comforting Zuko at the lake house & the two generally playing beach games together & acting on the same team to burn down Chan’s house along with Mai & Ty Lee. And they did play together as kids even if it was often with a lot of bullying involved as we see in Zuko Alone. Though I think Zuko asking Azula about the family history in the Avatar & the Firelord & then abkjr the war meeting & whether he should go in Nightmares & Daydreams are underrated.
Zuko & Azula were fighting to kill in the Boiling Rock too but this moment is where we see Zuko really believing Azula is about to die. It’s a brief moment but I can & will read SO much into it.

I FINALLY FINISHED IT
21 guards, 7 Ty Lee’s, 6 Mai’s and 6 Zuko’s I can’t do this anymore
Halfway my wrist started aching cuz of some weird medical problem I have so art may be going slow from now on🫡
Anyway onto the au stuff
Ty Lee betrays Zuko first (instead of Mai like in the og show), after which Mai couldn’t allow Zuko to hurt her so she followed. Mai and Zuko are still a couple in this au btw (at least until this happened), so it takes a big toll on Zuko’s wellbeing and plays a big role in his eventual breakdown.
